נכון להיום מושג הילד, כמו גם תקופת הילדות, הם דבר בנאלי ומובן מאליו, שלא לומר עניין "טבעי" - חלק בלתי נפרד ממסכת חייו של אדם. בין שמדובר בספרה המשפחתית ובין שבספרה הלאומית והבינלאומית, נדמה שככל שחולף הזמן כוחם וחשיבותם של הילדים רק עולה - אין זה מפתיע לפיכך כי המאה ה-20 הוגדרה לא אחת כ"מאה של הילד". אולם מתברר שההנחות השגורות הללו היו בלתי מתקבלות על הדעת במשך רוב רובה של ההיסטוריה האנושית וכי הילדים של פעם כלל לא ידעו שהם "ילדים". איך התחוללה המהפכה הזו? על השאלה הזו ננסה לענות במסגרת הסמסטר הנוכחי של הקורס "מבוא ל" עם ליעד מודריק, אותו נקדיש לילדות. במהלך הסמסטר נבקש להבין איך נולד ה"ילד" וכיצד השתנו תפיסתו ומעמדו לאורך ההיסטוריה; נלמד איך משתקפת תקופת הילדות בפסיכולוגיה ובפסיכואנליזה, כיצד הפך הילד לסובייקט משפטי ואיך מעוצבת דמותו באמצעות גישות חינוכיות שונות; נבדוק מה מקומם של ילדים בזירה הכלכלית, כיצד הם מיוצגים על המסך הטלויזיוני, איך התפתחה ספרות הילדים בכלל והעברית בפרט ובאילו אופנים משפיע העידן הדיגיטלי על עולמם של ילדים. 35287
