This is next up with Tad Norfleeten Chris Gordy.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Let's see what's next next?
Speaker 1 (00:23):
What they say?
Speaker 5 (00:24):
Let's clock in live from the Sports Talk seven ninety
studios here on a Monday, overreaction, underreaction, proper reaction for
the next two hours. That means this is next up,
new to the station, new to the show, or you
are returning. Welcome and thank you staying northleet me my
radio partner in studio with me today, Chris Gordon. There's
Connedy McGovern he's back for a little bit of a vak.
(00:45):
I appreciate him joining us this week as we celebrate
here on a Monday, Texans go up to Foxboro, what
had been a proverbial house of horrors for the Texans, Gordy.
They get a dub in very convincing fashion. That is,
in the second half forty one to twenty one. We
know the score, we know who got busy. We will
dissect the game and we will determine if our emotions
(01:08):
are properly targeted in all the right places. Welcome into
the show. We'll take some phone calls as well. Oh,
let me thank the Shawn Sasbury Show. Each and every
weekday morning six to ten am. We get up, We
hang out. Our resident quarterback around these part Sean Salisbury
his baseball Officionado co hosts Brian Lolima. Brian knows things
other than baseball. Really appreciate their conversation. Of course, Emanuel
(01:29):
sits in a production chair for them. A lot of
Texans and NFL talk today. Nasty injury, also a nasty
performance by that team has a star on their helmet
in the second window, Gordy, as they got blasted by
the Detroit Lions. Did the Dallas Cowboys? College football a
fun weekend? Some really good matchups. Gordy'll give us some
insight on the SEC. Congratulations to your Bayou Bengals. Gordy
(01:53):
got by y'all by the seat of your pants or
hearing the Jimmy Chin chin or whatever the cliche you
want to say. Go to hell a US Okay, all
you can tell on misscode. Appreciate everybody hanging out with
us against seven one, three, two, two, five, seven ninety.
If you want to get in and talk some ball
with us. I saw something I just posted to you
(02:14):
guys tonight, Game one of the ALCS, the first time
the Houston Astros won't be in the ALCS in nearly
eight years. TK had it to an actual the amount
of time. I know this hurts, but for the sake
of radio, two thousand, nine hundred and eighteen days have
passed since the last time the Astros were in the ALCS,
(02:37):
Go Guardians Final four set. Maybe we'll take a peek
in baseball and see who's left. I know who I'm
cheering for. Probably will disturb Gordon.
Speaker 6 (02:46):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
Nonetheless, it's what I want to see. I'm entering for
the dots. I'm in the with the interesting business, thank you.
I'm in the entertainment business. But I also want things
to be interesting, and I think there's a particular world
series that would be interesting. All right, So let's start here, gentlemen,
tell you what Connor, let's cue up some sound, would
you we heard from all the appropriate folks postgames, I
(03:08):
get logged in here dealing with a tire coming up
to eighty eight nail and a tire.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
I appreciate the folks at the tire shop getting me tight.
Speaker 5 (03:15):
Okay, Gordy, we said that this game versus New England
represents a few things. One demko' Ryan's tenure on the road,
we've seen his team more often than not lose. We've
also seen his teams played down to the level of
(03:39):
their competition. I give you the Jets, I give you
the Falcons last year, I give you the Carolina Panthers. Oh,
and then there's the first time we're seeing Demiko face
a rookie quarterback in his first career start. To other occasions,
we've seen Dimico's Texans versus a rookie in that rookies
(04:00):
second start, Anthony Richardson last year, Caleb Williams this year. Okay,
so we went. Oh, and then there's the Foxborough had
previously been on seven. We talked about that. All right,
here we go. I will say this just an overall
outlying thought. Then I come to you, g man. I'm
(04:20):
very proud of the effort that the Texans put up.
It's the National Football League. Wins are very difficult to
come by, and from roster to roster the differential ain't
that great. I'm proud of the performance they put up,
and I stand on how I started coming out of
Week one. Gordon Joe Mixon makes things over there on offense.
(04:45):
All due respect to Nico, Joe Mixon is the reason
that that's gonna look like that yesterday. Well and for somehow,
some way it made even Dammian Pierce have a resurgence.
Speaker 7 (04:56):
He look he had a fifty fifty four yeard touchdown,
but no it today. To me, the biggest takeaway is welcome,
Welcome to twenty twenty four, Houston Texans. That's what you
were supposed to look like. You're supposed to watch the victory.
You're supposed to blow out teams. You're supposed to put
on an offensive show. You're supposed to put on a
defensive show. Four sacks, four takeaways. That's the Houston Texans
(05:20):
A twenty twenty four. So that to me, stay was
the most complete game. But it still wasn't perfect. I
mean the fact it was only fourteen to seven at
the half.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
I'm like, you should be up by more.
Speaker 7 (05:31):
Than this, And luckily second half it's almost a reverse
of what we've seen it weeks prior or, like Buffalo
jump out to the early lead and then they have
a subpar second half.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
This was the opposite.
Speaker 7 (05:42):
It was kind of a subpar first half, but second
half really just put your you know, foot on their
throats said we're gonna run out of here with a victory.
And so that to me was yeah, I mean, we
can get nitpicky on stuff, but that was their most
complete performance of that's what the Texans supposed to look like.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
And that's what the to your point, the run game.
When the run game looks like that, everything else can
happen offensively. The second thought I have, and before we
get to that second thought, let me show some love
here Joe Mixon. I want to hear you get busy, bro?
What did you think? Happy to have you a receiving
and a rushing touchdown? Kind of pick one of the TV's.
It don't matter. I just want to love on some
(06:21):
Joe Mixon in terms of his production in a Texans
UNI frowned.
Speaker 8 (06:26):
Tongues with a block Diixon touchdown and just why that
two possessions, two touchdown packages that for ten yards?
Speaker 1 (06:37):
All right?
Speaker 5 (06:37):
So that's the crew Dons on CBS showing some love
Joe Mixon getting in the end zone.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Goard it some people.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
And I put this on social media in real time
at stand sports man. Some of you told me, old man,
Joe Mixon didn't have it anymore. Oh, he's losing a step.
That's why the Bengals didn't want him. The Bengals are
a pass first attack. You can be just all right
without Joe Mixon. I know how to take says. Look
with Joe Mixon. I know how the Bengals looked without
Joe Mixon. He doesn't have it anymore. We had somebody
(07:06):
from Cincinnati joined us, Gordre if you remember. I forget
who that gentleman was. Somebody told us Mo Edgar, there
you go. He doesn't have the burst that he used
to have. Joe Mixon's fifty nine yard rushing touchdown was
the longest run at least for a touchdown in his career.
I think it was his longest run of his career.
I think did it on a hobbled ankle? Did he
(07:27):
look like he was struggling to separate? Pull out the field?
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Debate? We had boys he was with, you know.
Speaker 7 (07:32):
I think in the off season we talked he's still
good running back. But I think the debate I brought
up is he is he still a top ten running
back and I think through the first to the weeks
when he's been healthy, he is showing clar cut. Yes,
when he is healthy, he is absolutely still like top
ten running back in this league.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
So I struggle in Joe mixing in this concept context.
I have the Bill parcells ism that I bring to
the microphone all time. All running backs run the same
when there is no hole. So this is where we
kind of have to deduce. Is it the fact that
the offensive line blocked the same as they had in
(08:08):
all the games without mixing or just today against an
inferior opponent, and that defensive front is solid. It's not great,
but it's solid. It's serviceable by NFL standards? Was this
about really good Joe mixing? Did the offensive line, who
by thank god, the team didn't have as many penalties
as they previously had, what four penalties on the year,
(08:30):
which is less than the average in the NFL? Four
penalties on the game, I should say on the day.
So is this about good offensive line better Joe mixing?
Does Joe Mixing just have a comfortability in the blocking
scheme coming from Cincinnati?
Speaker 1 (08:45):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (08:47):
All I know is we've now seen Joe Mixing for
two and a half games, and the run game is
infinitely better, which makes everything else go. If I ask you,
is a good offensive line's good Joe mix it?
Speaker 7 (09:01):
How do you deduce that it's Mixing, because again that
that same offensive line couldn't open up holes for Dari
or cam Akers.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
So it's it's Joe Mixing.
Speaker 7 (09:10):
But but how about this stat He's he's twenty fifth
in the league in rushing, which is pretty crazy considering
he's He's only played three games and a lot of
guys have been have played six. So the stat I
go to his yards per game, and when I look
at that in terms of rushing, he's fourth. It's Derrick Henry,
Jordan Mason number two. Frank's been really good there, He's
(09:32):
hurt Sa Kwon Barkley three, Joe Mixon four. That is
that that speaks to right there what he means to
this team and how much they have to have him.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
All Right, we'll get out of here loving on some
Joe Mixon as well as Damian Pierson. Let me add
one thing that I saw wrapping up that part of it,
in terms of if Mixing still has the steam and
the engine to move forward, Joe Mixon touchdown of fifty
nine yards zero point seven to eight miles per hour.
(10:04):
Also Damian Pierce, and we'll talk about him in the
next segment as well, Gordon Damian Pierce's touchdown which put
the cap on it twenty point seventy four miles per hour,
the two fastest speeds yesterday on their respective touchdown runs.
The Texans when they're healthy, and you get Pierce, who
looked like his old self along with Joe Mixon in
(10:25):
that backfield. The Texans have one of the best backfields
in the league when they're healthy, and it ain't even close.
We'll come back. We'll talk about the other side of
the ball. Because there was another challenge that I issued.
That challenge was answered. I have to acknowledge how well
those brothers played getting warmed up on a Monday overreaction,
under reaction, proper reaction, taking phone calls sep one three, two, one,
(10:47):
two five seven ninety real text of talk and listen
to KBM me.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Next up continues on your computer.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
Listen to Sports Talk seven ninety on any device free
iHeart Radio.
Speaker 9 (11:01):
Un Man, Hey, congrats congrats to everybody. Man, really awesome job.
Right way to come up here A right and do
us right.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
We played really well. We bought the energy, We did
us well.
Speaker 9 (11:17):
Still a lot to clean up, lot to clean up,
but love the way you guys came out offense. One
hundred and ninety two rushing yards.
Speaker 10 (11:27):
No boy's way to run the rock, man way to
run the rock.
Speaker 11 (11:29):
Beautiful to see defense for a takeaway defense ploying way
to hunt and not only taking the ball away, but
offen is able to capitalize and score off of the takeaways.
Speaker 9 (11:41):
Outstanding job for special teams. We talked about being disruptive.
You guys are disrupted all day man, So great job
twisted team off the defense all the way across.
Speaker 12 (11:50):
Sport for us.
Speaker 9 (11:52):
Man, it's an organization, right we already know. So our
first time with a win here my first time of
the win. So everybody get a game ball, rid everybody, everybody,
let's get this play back to.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
Houston, all right, let's get the hell out of there
to Miko, bring on back down to the h Baby
with a dub.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Gets a game Everybody gets a game ball.
Speaker 5 (12:17):
For the first time you go up to Foxborough or
a Verbilt House of Horrors and you get a dub,
Especially when you get a dub in that convincing of
a fashion. Now, there's some things on this tape that
I'm uncomfortable with. Today's probably not the day to do that.
I'll get to that second take Tuesday tomorrow. For now,
we're gonna love on some folks and celebrate the Texans
(12:38):
five and oh with a healthy two game lead over
the Indianapolis Colts in the af South. We will see
the Coats the next time they open the doors over
at NRG. What was that two weeks from yesterday? Texans
at Packers this Sunday, and then you get Texans hosting
Colts the following Sunday.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
If I am correct and I am all right.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
The Texans also along with Kansas City, are now the
two teams in the AFC gordon that have a five
or five win total on the season. We get Monday
Night Football tonight. I don't think that game's gonna be
good tonight. Who's Monday Night? Let me pull us up
Bill's Jets tonight, and neither of those teams can get
(13:22):
to five wins. So AFC you got I can't see
the head about this week, I believe. So you got
two teams in the AFC five wins all right Texas
handle business. We mentioned in the opening segment, we've not
seen two and a half games with Joe Mixon running
the football for this team. When Joe Mixon starts and
he's running the ball and he plays, the offense looks
(13:43):
totally different than when he's not out there. But he
was not alone. How about Damian Pierce?
Speaker 1 (13:51):
What do he do?
Speaker 5 (13:52):
Let me pull up Damien numbers. I don't have the
what's the name in front of hi? I'm trying to
pull up hereple go, what did Damian Piers do? How
about a carries seventy six yards nine and a half
per You get a tout and you also get a
fifty four yard touchdown.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Let me hear that. Let me have that sweet music
from dp DJ.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
It's first and ten. Pierce putting a blackoutside from show
finding room.
Speaker 7 (14:14):
There he goes, he's a foot racer, Toby and can
tell us who pushes him out before he hits the pilot.
Speaker 9 (14:21):
No, they get it to HiT's a touchdown, get a
fifty four yard touchdown?
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Run Tummy and.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Pierce appreciate keV Holling the crew.
Speaker 7 (14:32):
Second longest run of Damian Pierce's career had a seventy
five yard run in his rookie season against the Chargers,
second longest run of his career.
Speaker 5 (14:40):
I still don't think he stayed in bounce. I still
think he stepped out. But officially it is a teddy,
so he'll take it. It doesn't really matter. Super happy
for DP. I thought that was that has to be
a moment for him. And it wasn't just that he scored.
It was the run itself. He was he pressed the
(15:01):
line of scrimmage initially patient, foot in the ground, definitive
in his motion and we're going that way downhill right now,
and it looked like rookie year Damien Pierce. He gets
in the end zone and we'll celebrate that. How about
Dalton Schultz, who you had? You said it to me
off air, somebody tweeted it at stand Sportsman during the
(15:23):
game in real time. There are some people that are
down on Dalton Schultz on that play. However, he did
see on the backside allowing Damien Pierce to bust it
right down, right up.
Speaker 7 (15:34):
I mean, he's he's great as a blocker, it's just
as a pass catcher. He is not pulling his weight.
Speaker 5 (15:40):
I remind you, as we did off air that CJ's
tipball interception. He was targeting Dalton shot and Schultz look like,
what do you call that? The girl who sits at
the volleyball and at the center. He looked like he
was setting for a spike. Here you go, just ti
Tipterol listened to the air. We actually practiced that gord
is out of linebacker and defensive back daily practicing. Man, Yeah,
(16:04):
he's supposed to eat to catch it or knock it down,
but that was not the case. All right, So before
we move on from the running game, guys, anything else,
how about the old line. We're gonna love on some
old line. Anybody stand out for you?
Speaker 1 (16:15):
Guys? Up front?
Speaker 7 (16:17):
They were okay, Tunsil got banged up, also got an
ankle rolled up. I think he took the second half off.
Tunson's like, y'all got it. This thing is under control.
I just hang out right here, uh and look at
my stock report. I keep my money. But I'll also
say I think I think it's vitally important that Blake
Fisher's getting some important, some real playing time early in
(16:38):
his career.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
I think that's gonna be good for his long term development.
Speaker 5 (16:41):
How about what was anybody else surprised that that Joe
Mixon got the start. I expected Damien Peers to play
and start, but when the in actors and actors came out,
I was like, wait a minute, Joe Mixon is in
cool and it sounds like I heard Joe mixing. There's
a cut of him out there saying he could have
gone the game. It almost like he got desisted that
(17:02):
the coaches were keeping him out. I wonder if they
could have kept him out this game. And with Damian
Pierce running the ball like that nine and a half
yards per carry for Damian Pierce seven point eight yards
per carry for Joe Mixon, hell Daria Gumbiwalle two carries
eight yards, that's four per click. They just had the
run game going. And I wonder if that's because the
(17:23):
guy winning jersey twenty eight. Joe Mixon back there, just
makes this thing feel and look a lot differently. Seven
one three two one two five seven nineties. We go
to the phone lines. You guys want to get in,
Let's talk and celebrate. Shall we overreaction? Underreaction? Proper action?
It was a proper damn reaction when I told y'all
by the end of the season. CJ is the best player.
(17:44):
Nico's proven to be wide receiver one when he's in there.
Heart and Saul of this team, Joe Mixon least on offense,
Jacob on the north side, what's happening with it?
Speaker 13 (17:54):
What up?
Speaker 1 (17:55):
A six and a half points? Are they crazy? They
gave him six and a half points?
Speaker 14 (18:00):
That was That was a disrespect and I'm sure he
brought that up to his deep to the whole team.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Hey hey, Gordon, are you talking about the point spreads? Pointspread? Jacob?
Speaker 7 (18:10):
You can only go off of truck record. Look at
what the truck record was all this year. One score wins.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
I understand that. But with a rookie quarterback, bro.
Speaker 14 (18:20):
You did to take a rocket scientist week to Jacob.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
They played a rookie quarterback kayleb Williams and one by six.
Speaker 14 (18:27):
Well, Kayla was the first. He's him and that guy
is two different quarterbacks. Caleb won and Caleb was the
number one pick. He's he's the franchise on.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
Drake supposed to be the franchise moving forward. Well he's not.
I'm sorry. You know, he did some good things, Jacob.
Speaker 7 (18:42):
He looked like a rookie, but he had some nice throws.
Speaker 14 (18:44):
He got Yeah, Stanley, he got beat he got beat
on one. He got beat on one.
Speaker 11 (18:50):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
But hey, my boy, he only got seventy seven yards.
But Diggs, he gave him.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
Some keeper down.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Let's talk about him.
Speaker 14 (18:58):
And he had twelve twelve He had at twelve per
per catch.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
He had twelve yards per catch.
Speaker 14 (19:03):
And I also give up to the other little short
guy on the other side. So the whole team all together,
and they said, man, my man missed that one kick,
but all together it is a building block. By the
end of the year, I think they're gonna be the
end of the winning baby.
Speaker 5 (19:17):
All right, appreciate my man, Jacob giving us a shot
on the north side of the City Gordon. Before we
dip out of this segment, we talked about the run game,
my man. Right there, Joe's just mentioned Diggs, and I said,
I would get on the defensive side of the ball,
and I will on the other side of the break.
But I told y'all and I tweeted this real time.
(19:41):
Steph Diggs is fully capable still of being a wide
receiver one. He would be a wide receiver one every
other team in the league outside of maybe five six teams.
He's legit, Steph Diggs going in and I had a
gentleman's bet Steph Diggs will lead this team and receiving
in the absence of need go.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Well, you also said he would go over one hundred
yards I did.
Speaker 5 (20:03):
He went for seventy seven still scored a touchdown. I
count four touchdowns. Does anybody have more touchdowns on this
team than Steph Diggs? I think that he's got three.
He's got three receiving and one rushing. That's a total
of four touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (20:15):
Does anybody else in the scene. How many weeks are
we in the season? This is three week six, sir.
Speaker 7 (20:19):
I need if you're my number one receiver, I need
to have more than four touchdowns.
Speaker 5 (20:23):
I'm sorry, four touchdowns should and I have not looked today.
That's gonna be like tied for maybe second or third
in the league in touchdowns. And again I haven't caught
up from the games last night and all the things.
But and we still have a game to go. All right,
let's step aside here, we'll come back. Four guys have five.
Four guys have five, So he's tied for a second. Yeah,
that's why I receive one stuff on the other side
(20:44):
will come back. Let's look at the other side of
the ball. I issued a challenge and the challenge was answered.
Also the performance of Drake May it was much what
bally hood first career start.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
How did the kid do?
Speaker 5 (20:56):
Joseph mentioned right there that how he measured against one
co Ridge Bernard. We have not talked about Stroud as well.
Time to get to real Texas talk and listen to
seven ninety on inside with Yourn.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Next stup Pitchers tremble.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
With fear, hold off com three, run over with north
Fleet and Gordion.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Next up, Bellies tremble with hunger.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
Lunchtime is so close kill then show down on more
next up.
Speaker 13 (21:35):
Right.
Speaker 15 (21:35):
One thing we prod ourselves on is taking the football defensively,
and today to get four takeaways as a huge four
as the most we've gotten, you know, in the game
here this year. So to see it come to fruition
was really really awesome by our defense and to see
the energy that it provided our entire team. And it's
not only getting the takeaways, but as you mentioned, it's
about the offense being able to capitalize and score points
(21:58):
off of takeaways. That's when you really can get ahead
on the team, so giving the offense a short field
and the offense doing their part of actually putting points
on the board after the takeaways. That's where the takeaways
mean a lot more so part of our team collectively, offense, defense,
special teams. I like the way, you know, we were
disruptive in the kickoff game, like forcing forcing some kicks,
(22:21):
forcing them to return, and our guys did a really
great job of covering.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
Head coach to Miko Ryans.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
Praising his team five and one. Are they in the
AFC South going up to Foxboro, Massachusetts, Julette Stadium, site
of an absolute ass whooping yesterday, a twenty point victory
forty one twenty one. I saw this on ESPN dot com.
There's a write up kind of old reactions or what
is old reaction proper reaction from each of the games
(22:49):
and teams that played on what's that Thursday as well
as Sunday.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (22:56):
This was an excerpt Gordon, It's possible the Texans have
never had a team this good. The forty one points
the Texans scored Sunday matches the most they've scored in
a road game and the only other time they started
the season five to one twenty twelve. Same season they
set the franchise win record with twelve wins. When you're
(23:17):
scoring the way that they were, and you're getting takeaways
and again scoring off those takeaways, as de Miko just
alluded to, they shut down the run game, Gordon. Now
we knew it was likely. On Friday we got the
final injury report Remadre Stevenson, one of the better backs
in the league, was not going to play for the Patriots.
Their run games suffered, though Gibson did have some moments
(23:40):
here and there. Shut down the Patriots run game to
just eighty two total yards. What is that three point
two yards per rush?
Speaker 1 (23:48):
Gordon?
Speaker 5 (23:48):
You add the turnovers and the proficiency Joe Mixon running
the ball, CJ toss in the rock to Diggs and deal,
this was just a complete ass woman.
Speaker 7 (23:56):
Well what did we say too? I mean, Derek May
had some nice runs. I thought, like all considered, the
game ended and you look back. He made some mistakes,
made the rookie mistakes. He was sacked four times, he
threw two interceptions. But I think the Patriots actually come
out of that. Hey we got something to build on.
Let's get there for almost two or fifty yards through
three touchdowns on that Texans defense. You know, I think
(24:19):
they come away a little bit like it wasn't like
he just crapped the bed out there.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Two things happened. The Texans won in dominant fashion.
Speaker 7 (24:26):
But I think also the Patriots are going Drake Mayther
three touchdowns in his in his first start. I think
there's some things for them to build on. And again,
like I said, I come up with the Texans not
saying it was a completely flawless game. There were still
some things to correct the build A question about that,
but that's what we wanted. I'm just I was getting
tired of the six point win and the four point
one and the three point went like, go and beat some
(24:47):
body handily. And that's what was so impressive about yesterday.
I thought it was critical.
Speaker 5 (24:51):
Not only did they send a message to the rest
of the AFC and the rest of the league, but
you also want to cast a shadow of doubt in
the mind of young quarterbacks. The next time he sees
he's the Texans, now he's gonna have some confidence because
of some things that you had to say. But they
also know, Okay, bro, we got a book out on you.
We didn't know what to expect. You showed us. The
Texans made adjustments. First half scared a ton of people.
(25:12):
There were a lot of people bleeping nervous when when
uh Dereck Singler Junior gets beat by Booty on the
touchdown and the end zone there obviously going into the half,
a lot of people like, oh, bleap and the Patriots
get the ball. Coming out of the second half, Demiko
made some adjustments. He told the media what he told
(25:32):
his team at halftime. We'll get to that here in
justin second. Let's get back to the Fons. Gordy lines
are lit. People want to get in and talk bragging
on the Texans, strutting our stuff. Beat a bad football
team and injured football team. But nobody felt sorry for
the Texans last year when they were injured and they
too were starting. Gave rookie quarterbacks seven one three two
one two five seven ninety. I'll get Wood, Charles and Anthony.
(25:56):
We'll try and get through these relatively quickly. Wood up North,
what's up?
Speaker 13 (26:01):
Man? This is beautiful to see what we have going
on here in Houston. We have a team with debt.
Now we have receivers. Sut Uh your second and third
fourth receiver group. Uh, we're still week on that secondary now.
Speaker 16 (26:15):
And then on the officeive line. We got Fisher coming
in who can replace and play the swing taper. The
running back group, this is the best running back group
you didn't have.
Speaker 13 (26:24):
I mean, I mean we are deep.
Speaker 16 (26:25):
We don't have this opera bluing in uh bankhead and
all this trash that we there. And we have a
great coaching staff. This is what you need to be
a Super Bowl champion type of team. You need death,
you need coaches, and we have a good defense line.
(26:48):
I'm starting to come around on Davis Edwards Junior, and
when we get Nico Archie back in the lawn, I'm
gonna be happy with your deepest line.
Speaker 17 (26:57):
Now.
Speaker 16 (26:57):
Our secondary, we are getting killed every week because of
his secondary. I mean, it is just horrible back there.
But I see what they're doing. They're playing five secondary people.
They use the two linebackers exactly. But at the same time,
we're week in as far as our safeties are biting
too much, they're not playing deep. We are just getting
(27:22):
burned back there. But it's a long season. They got
they're still learning.
Speaker 13 (27:26):
They're going to get it together.
Speaker 16 (27:28):
I believe in the Deko line, we're going to put
together something. Well, we're gonna do something special in the playoffs,
were going to the Super Bowl, my.
Speaker 5 (27:34):
Man would on the north side. I've got the Texas
in the AFC Title Game. They looked like a legitimate
title game participant the way they played on Sunday.
Speaker 7 (27:46):
And let me just say, I mean, Hidsight's always twenty twenty. Look,
mixing's doing this thing, but I still the greatest backfield
that Look, when Arian Foster was in his prime, he
was a top two, top three running back this league.
So I want to pay a little respect to us
as a rule, history as a unit. But look at
what what happened the last three weeks were mixings, but
out we've been like, oh god, we can't run the
(28:06):
football st having.
Speaker 5 (28:07):
Double digit penalties. A lot of that a by the
offensive line. There's a balance that acre.
Speaker 7 (28:11):
You know, when it was the Acres Oga Bally Show,
they weren't doing anything.
Speaker 5 (28:15):
And I think the offensive line had a lot to
do with that, and they're being disjointed and not not
now maybe having if you had a Pierce not not
hurt to the last three weeks, maybe he could have
helped listen. I've seen Damian Pierce now. I saw him
Indianapolis game. He look good. He looked good again yesterday.
I think there was one other snapshot. Maybe they'd have
a couple carries, Mick. Excuse me, Damian Pierce doesn't have
(28:37):
the volume that we're accustomed to seeing him in other season.
But from what I've seen this year, Damian Piers could
talk the rock. Charles and Spring again, Anthony and deer Park.
Speaker 17 (28:49):
Go ahead, Charles, hey Man, look at it first time,
colle a long time listening man, and I enjoy you
guys show. I was called him bout that damn excuse me.
I was calling about day Tenant Day called on Joe
Nixon when he spiked the ball and when the guy
hit him on that dirty that dirty hid and I
don't know.
Speaker 16 (29:09):
If and he bringing it to the referee at hey
Man look and they hitting.
Speaker 9 (29:13):
The wrong.
Speaker 17 (29:15):
Call it on. I thought that was out of line
on the referee. I mean, you could celebrate. I don't
know if that was celebration that he did on and
when he spiked the ball in the face and.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
That, but well, they call thank you, brother Charles in
the spring, thank you for the call. Appreciate you listening
the penalty on Steph Diggs for taunting and who is
he taunting Christian Gonzalez. It looks like tef Steph Diggs
and Christian Gonzales the corner for New England had something
going back and forth as well. Let's wrap up this
segment with a quick one from Anthony and deer Park.
Appreciate your holding.
Speaker 18 (29:46):
Hey, what's up guys. First of all, Gordie, I appreciate
you engaging me on ex this weekend. Man, It's fun
to get y'all's opinions. But I think I don't want
to turn the page quickly to Green Bay because you know,
this was a great Texans win. But I'm really excited
for this Green Bay game because the Texans get one
(30:07):
of their best players on defense back in Denico Autrey.
And so I think and everything i'm seeing says that
Denico Autry is ready to go. He's in game shape,
and I guess they'll find out Sunday. But but I'm
really excited. Man. I think this front seven is really
going to be a problem for every single team that
(30:28):
the Texans play. And I think that we'll start to
see this front seven really impose its will starting with
Green Bay this weekend.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
Man, my man, Anthony deer Park. Many of us share
your opinion. I too anticipate the debut in a Texas
uniform with Deniko Autrey just again with Duay. Those interior
guys are playing. We still guys have not bragged on
those ends and the way they have not played. We
got a tip, I a cap and acknowledge what will
Anderson Junior how his performance was and I challenged a
(30:58):
particular individual and he answered the bell. We must get
to that. On the other side, Texans and Dimico Ryan
Nick Casio, perhaps they are building an AFC champion over
there at NRG. And if you you good, sir or madam,
if you're thinking about building a home, whether it be
some with whichever neighborhood or community here in the city
(31:18):
of Houston or surrounding area, or commercially you're ready to
do some renovations or you want to start anew The

Speaker 1 (31:54):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (31:54):
Also inquire about that new two hundred and twenty two
thousand dollars duplex. Bill Brothers got a tremendous amount of
value in that specific design. Ask about that. Maybe you
want to become an investor in the real estate game
and you don't know how wherever you are.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
JB.
Speaker 5 (32:09):

Speaker 2 (32:16):
When Fleet speaks, Houston listens.
Speaker 10 (32:19):
Yes, I have a great shot already a huge brand.
Speaker 13 (32:21):
I'm liking her stuff.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
Stanton north Fleet and Chris Gordy are next us on
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
It's a shucking down to nine.
Speaker 7 (32:36):
Look he'll that come hunt it up to away and
gatculmed in by Edward's turnover.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Well he's slow, he's down right.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
Now, are you to visit devastated.
Speaker 5 (32:50):
Please wrap up our one here on an overreaction, underreaction,
proper reaction, Monday Live from the Sports Talk seven ninety
studios stay in Northfleet, me Chris Gordi him connedy governors
back as well, and we couldn't do it maintaining our
status as jo home for the Houston sports without City
of Houston. Who have we got a five to one
football team, second best team in the AFC by record,
(33:11):
of course, the can't see the Chiefs. Undefeated Texans reside
in the two spot right now in the AFC, are
comfortable two games ahead of the Colts, who the Texans
already have taken care of in their building.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
Coats will be here in two weeks. Going to the.
Speaker 5 (33:25):
Phone lines here momentarily seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. Let's talk some Texans, shall we? Gord
If that was in the third quarter, I think the
most impactful play of the game, given that Danil Hunter
Drake may.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Kaboom ball out recovery.
Speaker 5 (33:43):
Texans two plays later throw the ball to Stefan Diggs.
He gets in the ends on and that was to
go up three scores. Now, there there were opportunities in
the first half to go up three scores, and the
Texans were playing with their food a little bit in
the first half. That's more second take Tuesday, I'll get
to that. I had personally challenged the nil Hunter. You
(34:04):
are an excellent football player. You're one of the most
underrated players at the position in this league. You are
a badass, which is why you were compensated with a
two year, fifty million dollar deal, making some on average
twenty five million dollars. I know going into yesterday's game,
I'm looking at a stat here from next Gen Stats.
(34:24):
Going into yesterday's game, do y'all know that Neil Hunter
led the NFL in QB pressures with twenty nine, ahead
of Chase Young, Miles Garrett, and even Jonathan Grenard in
Minnesota pressure. She said pressures. He led the league in
pressures as a team. As a defense, the Texans led
the league in pressures going into yesterday afternoon. Pressure's good better.
(34:50):
What I had not seen were game changing plays. When
you're twenty five million dollars a year, I don't need
you to just pressure. I don't need you to just
get I don't need you to just pinch the be
I need forest fumbles, interception, striped sacks, ball coming out,
fumber recoveries. I need you to be impacting the game regularly.
(35:14):
Like the other names, the Miles, Garretts, Jonathan Gernaud, we know.
Bless his heart, Aiden Hutchison was on his way to
being a Defensive Player of the Year candidate. He's now
gone for the season with a broken tibia that happened
during the Cowboys game in the second window yesterday. Nonetheless,
the great players at the position. You gotta impact the game, Brodie,
(35:34):
and it was good to see Daniel Hunter do that.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
I have been challenging him to do that. Now.
Speaker 5 (35:39):
Will Anderson Jr. On the other side him got the message.
You know what, Let me love on Will Anderson Jr.
As Will Will, You've been quiet on me too. I
don't know if you batted through that ankle or not,
but I've been waiting for Will to take his game.
You had an excellent rookie year, which you're gonna give
me in this sophomore campaign. Will Anderson Jr. Whyon't you
have you a day? Get your third sacks.
Speaker 7 (36:00):
In the backfield after having that last carry, Oh from behind,
they get him.
Speaker 8 (36:04):
It's another sack it's the third today for Anderson.
Speaker 7 (36:08):
Willanson Jinia screaming right there. He needed, he needed a
day like that. Well, and that's the guy who went
top three in the draft. And you know, we saw
glimpses of it in his rookie season, but we all
thought elevate, We all thought year two, you're gonna take
that big step forward. And again, the sack toll aren't
the end all be all, but again it is a
metric that the NFL celebrates. And if you're you know,
(36:31):
if you're a double digit sack artist, you already stud
And for him to get three right there puts him
now tied for fifth most sacks in the NFL. Aden
Hudchinson leads the league seven and a half, Dexter Lawrence
with seven, Kyle van Noy and Max Crosby tied for
third with six, or Calvin Annoy and Will McDonald max
Crosby's type with Will Anderson for five and a half,
(36:52):
fifth most sacks.
Speaker 1 (36:52):
In the league.
Speaker 5 (36:53):
Will Anderson Jr. Led the team in tackles yesterday with eight.
That's fine tack. I feel like he's gonna finish the
league top five and second. On the other side of
the Neil Hunter did highly elect it's highly likely eight
tackles to lead the team. Three sacks, three quarterback hits,
four tackles for a loss. And then obviously his past
deflection led to that awesome that was the Eric Murray
(37:15):
interception where he traps the ball on the lineman's back.
There beautiful, beautiful football by Will Anderson Jr. Let's get
to the people, going to some folks. Some friends of
ours want to chime in. We'll do this in order.
Let's go kJ and Cyprus. We'll get to my guy westside, Joe.
There's our boy, mickeln the Heights. We'll finish with if
ish in North George, excuse me, we'll carry over to
the eleven o'clock out if we can't get everybody kJ
(37:37):
the floor's George, you are next up, good sir.
Speaker 13 (37:40):
Real quick man.
Speaker 6 (37:40):
I'm gonna send me real blooded because I told y'all
last week that the Texans were gonna blow them out,
my double ditches, and I be calling y'all back money.
You did what we what we saw yesterday, and again
I say the only thing that could get in the
Texans way where the Texans themselves. I'm gonna be a
little nit picky, real quick and stake the fact that
I did see too many times when the runner backs
got the hand off of the defensive player, was an
(38:01):
offensive player was in that lap because they were getting
pushed back. But with that said, we can split the
hands and find something wrong with every game. But that said,
if I can get that version or better of the
offensive line the remainder of the season, I'm okay with
that last, but not least you just mentioned will Aison
and the deer hunter stands bigger.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
Up to both of those catching man. They were studs
up today.
Speaker 6 (38:22):
What I'm seeing right now with that consistent pass crush
and one thing I haven't her you'll mentioned so far
this morning.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
Maybe you did and I missed it. Deniko Archery is
now back with that line.
Speaker 17 (38:32):
Oh you did.
Speaker 6 (38:33):
Okay with that line right now and that second, deary.
I don't like the scheme defensively in the backfield, but
with that front line we are literally gonna wreck shot.
You saw a complete game yesterday. Quoto to the Texas,
shout out to the top side, and again one more
time for the free to the back MJ to go,
Lord of.
Speaker 5 (38:49):
Show, appreciate you that's how I got kJ up in Cyprus.
Friend of the station, friend of the show, West Side Joe,
what do do be?
Speaker 1 (38:58):
What did do?
Speaker 2 (38:59):
Baby?
Speaker 9 (39:00):
And the man?
Speaker 1 (39:00):
And what up?
Speaker 18 (39:01):
Gun?
Speaker 12 (39:02):
Did you see what you wanted to see yesterday tomorrow?
Speaker 2 (39:04):
As a pairently So Yeah.
Speaker 10 (39:06):
One of the things I want to I want to I.
Speaker 7 (39:08):
Want to welcome the twenty four Texans to the party.
They've showed up and that's.
Speaker 12 (39:12):
He, that's hey.
Speaker 10 (39:16):
But one of the things I want to give an
overaction to.
Speaker 19 (39:18):
I don't know the reason why Dallas let go a
dolt his shows because he checks out for man, it
seems like to watch the game and he's just not
into what they're being asked to him to do.
Speaker 10 (39:29):
Maybe I'm overacting, but I don't know.
Speaker 16 (39:31):
But last when not at least I want to give
him a shout.
Speaker 19 (39:33):
Out to my boy JB Kidd, But no, happy birthday
to you, boy, see you laid on my.
Speaker 5 (39:37):
God JBT, Happy birthday, James, Thank you so much, man,
you and the family. First, lady miss Ingrid over there,
y'all do a fantastic job over there at JB Tippotaal
go to jbtipodeau dot com for your residential land, commercial
needs from a builder standpoint, rehab as well.
Speaker 7 (39:52):
Let's keep the lines moving real quick. On adults, how
much how much money did he? Is he making his
thirteen a year on average?
Speaker 1 (39:58):
Thirteen million?
Speaker 7 (39:59):
Yeah, I'm saying thirteen hundred three years thirty six mon
so twelve millionaire.
Speaker 5 (40:05):
Third call, I've gotten on Joe mixed. I mean on Joe,
excuse me? On Dalton shows, staying he is fine. He
is averaging twenty three yards a game. He's going to
be fine. It's a long season. You need to get
you popped at the dawn. Media softball turning for.
Speaker 7 (40:23):
The Astros last year naked deal, you paid him twelve millionaire.
I'll do it for one millionaire. You do it for
twelve hundred a game, probably free bar tab I. Thank
god the mcmith family can afford it. We'll talk about
Dalton shows. I can't believe y'all are down on Dalton
right now. Mike Lin the Heights get.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
In here, man, what's up?
Speaker 17 (40:43):
Man?
Speaker 3 (40:46):
I thought a freak off was gonna happen. A frea
COFs happened, man, So congrass on the hat trick to
Will Anderson and finally Daniel Hunter gets home.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
Yep, but uh.
Speaker 12 (40:55):
Yeah, Man good Win.
Speaker 18 (40:56):
I mean, I gotta be.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
Honest, I am a little nervous after that first m past
the Homeboy through Drake May. It reminded me of the
opener when our ar fifteen just blasted us with the
deep passes and then the guy was wide open in
the middle of the field ran it in forty yards.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
So I think that's a weakness.
Speaker 3 (41:16):
The next week's going to be a test because the
Jordan love they can throw the ball. Yeah, but hey, Stany,
I mean we need to call the cops on the
Detroit Lions.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
Man, what they did is the cowboys. Good night.
Speaker 17 (41:28):
I'm on.
Speaker 5 (41:29):
I don't want to discuss this. It's just something that
won't come up on the show. I'm up against at
Michael in the Heights. I don't know what what happened.
Uh My TV did not pick up anything in the
Dallas Fort Worth area yesterday.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
Don't understand that. All right, let's do this.
Speaker 5 (41:42):
I do understand that the Texans had some guys on
the roster that played like the studs that they are.
He is looking at you Will Anderson Jr. Danil Hunter, C. J. Stroud.
I saw Steph Diggs Tank. There a lot of studs

Speaker 1 (43:26):
Kicking off hour two.
Speaker 5 (43:27):
Find an hour of the show here on an old Reaction,

side of the screen. I see appreciate all of you
that hung out with us in the first hour. If
(43:48):
you miss anything in the first album, go to Sports
seven ninety dot com or utilize the free iHeartRadio app
at the conclusion of this program and you'll be up
to speed. We bragged on clearly the Texans just played
differently when Joe mixings back there. I told yoall, y'all
thought I'm crazy. Many of you still think I'm crazy.
When they signed Joe Mixing, I said, oh, Joe perfect
(44:11):
knows the offense when it comes to like hard worker respect.
The guys in the locker room runs hard.
Speaker 1 (44:19):
Listen.
Speaker 5 (44:20):
Yeah, he's on the back end of his career, but
there's still enough tread on those tires to lead the
Texans to a bleeping championship game. And I think that's
what they're in route to doing. Damian Pierce welcome back.
Talked about him as well. Danil Hannah, congratulations, my man,
big big play, huge play to start the third quarter.
Stephan Diggs scores boom. Texans never looked back at that point,
(44:43):
even though it was fourteen seven at the break. This
hour we watched to say this segment, we will get
to the quarterback play. We haven't mentioned a lot about CJ. Stroud. Guys,
I want to get to that. Make sure we get that.
We bounced around the National Football League as well, because
there's another former quarterback that is struggling in a different
NFL city from a historic proportion. There is some Astros
(45:05):
news that is coming out. Now, how about let's do that.
Then I'll take your phone call because I think ISSUE
want to go where I want to go. Gordy, both
you and Connor got in my ear there as we
were setting up for the next break Astros. The last
Astros news we got was Dubon last week he's gonna
have thumb surgery. He'll be back and ready to go.
From a personnel standpoint, coaching, you have some news. Well,
(45:25):
there was one other tibit. Alex Bregman was spotted in
Baton Rouge over the weekend. He brought his son Knox
and his wife were out there at the lsu ole
Miss football game on Sunday evening. Bregman posted a thank
you message Instagram, So that was It's still not really
like an official official farewell, but that was kind of like, Okay,
now do you remember the ovation that he got when
(45:46):
he walked off the field at Many made the last.
Speaker 7 (45:48):
Time again where he hasn't a free agency yet. The
season hasn't ended. Once it ends, you know, we'll see
the Astros will be in the conversations.
Speaker 5 (45:56):
But Astros get five days after the conclusion of the
World Series too, an exclusive period that only Scott Bores
can deal with Dana Brown.
Speaker 7 (46:05):
But it was just another step it operation another separation.
Accord to Bob Nightingale, this coming out just ten minutes ago,
the Astros are not renewing the contract of a long
time third base coach, Gary Pettis. Pettis has been with
the Astros. He was part of AJ Hinch's first staff
in Houston a decade ago, back in twenty fifteen, and
(46:27):
has been their third base coach under A J. Hinch,
Dusty Baker and Joe Espada. Was part of both the
seventeen and twenty two World Series Team's been an MLB
coach for twenty seven years. One of the nicest guys
you'll ever meet too. I would always chat with him
on the road throughout the playoffs. I remember when in
Seattle He's told me all about the seafood restaurant they
went and ate at. He was so excited when his son,
(46:48):
Dante Pettis got drafted out of Washington. The play was
kind of bouncing around as a return man on different teams.
Speaker 1 (46:54):
But no.
Speaker 7 (46:55):
Gary Pettis, long time staple of the Houston Astros under
three different managers. Again, just sounds like they're just not
renewing the contract for whatever reason. Maybe they want to
get younger, maybe they got some other pieces in mind.
Speaker 1 (47:07):
How many assistants did they say, or is it.
Speaker 7 (47:09):
Just some guys in the minor league system that that
they're moving on from.
Speaker 5 (47:13):
So we'll say we talked about during the season snicker crum. Yeah,
but there wasn't rumbling. The Braves moved on from their
hitting coach. If he wants to bring his son in,
he can bring him over there. But we'll see what happens.
But you know what, stand I'm kind of fine with it.
Speaker 7 (47:30):
When you have the first early exit you've had in
a while, and this team underachieved out of the game,
you feel shakeups necessary. You know what, Let's do it,
because sometimes those ideas get stale, Sometimes.
Speaker 5 (47:41):
Those voices in the room get a little old. What's
interesting to me is who's making that call. Is that Dana?
Is that Jim Crane or an ink spot or is
a spot coming off of one year his first year?
Is does he have the jews to make that?
Speaker 7 (47:57):
I thought, though, as you're the you're the guy, what
do you need to be successful? I'm gonna do whatever
you need to be successful. Something interesting. Now if it fails,
it fails, and we'll call them out on it and
then Joe ultimately a spot if it's your moved and
the organization they know, the brass will know who will
be ill respond to somebody is we're digging into later on.
But somebody did bring up a stat like that they
(48:18):
were not very good, like there were times they should
have set runners when they didn't, and then there were
times they sent runners who got thrown out at home.
Like in other words, that percentage was down this year
for a years past, so could be part of that too.
Speaker 5 (48:30):
All right, coaching was not the issue for Demiko Ryans
and Matt Burke and Bobby Slowyck who buy and large
most certainly in the second half. The Miko addressed the
team in the second half. I want to talk about
that as well. If you'll get that cueued up, Connor,
let's go to north Shore. Let's talk to ish is
wha get going? What that north Shore ball club looking like?
What's the record over there?
Speaker 12 (48:51):
Honestly, I couldn't tell you, but I did go to
a concert my son had right there and it's literally
right in the same part as as right there as
a football what's that the stadium? Yeah, So I couldn't
really tell you I've really been paying attention to it,
but I believe they do it good.
Speaker 5 (49:11):
They set them at seven and the okay, I see
six and on Max Preps. All right, so the undefeated
still kicking ass, I got it. They beat Goose Creek
last week seventy to nothing. I think they're doing all right.
When your high school is named Goose Creek, you're going
to get the doors blowing off, as did the Buffalo
Buffalo Bill's good lord, the New England Patriots on Sunday Ish,
What did you see?
Speaker 1 (49:30):
What you want to say?
Speaker 12 (49:32):
Yeah, I just wanted, you know, good job by the
offense and the defensive Brookies. Just wanted a real quick
just chiming. I just wanted to ask how many how
many picks the CJ got on the year, and how
many of those have been deflections? Because I'll feel like
every time I see an intercession, it's a deflection, not
(49:53):
necessarily on CJ himself, but it's always credit to the defense,
you know, the opponent's defense. And I just wanted to say,
who this, what can see they do to clean that
up a little bit? And you know, I just hang
up and listen. But hey, God, bless y'all. Brothers and
y'all have a great day.
Speaker 5 (50:11):
Thank you so much. Ish out in North shore Man,
thank you much. To answer your question, c J Stroud
ten touchdowns on the year for interception. Two of those,
Gordy come to mind, have been by deflection Sunday and
then the Minnesota game right out the gate. The Minnesota game, by.
Speaker 7 (50:26):
The way, five all of last season, in fifteen games,
go by one away from matching that we said. I mean,
you know, when we threw the round the words sophomore slump,
it wasn't necessarily like he was just going to hit
a wall, but maybe not be as good as last year,
and I think it's kind of been. I think it's
probably been probably equal, you know, I mean, like the
(50:46):
interception total has gone up a little bit. But to
your point, I mean that one from Dalton Schultz was
not his fault. Dalton Schultz just like a volleyball setter
just sets it into the air like somebody's coming up
to spike it, like dude, what are you doing? So
I don't know, I even not been put it this way.
Have you been at all concerned about CJ's decision this year? Now, Well,
I'm glad you brought that up. I'm not Demiko Ryans
(51:08):
was asked just that.
Speaker 5 (51:09):
Demico Rians on CJ's decision making post game forty one
to twenty one Texans win.
Speaker 15 (51:15):
His decision making was it was nice, hey, he was
He was efficient with the football. He was going to
the right spot with the football right, they got got
one on us and they the dB made a nice
play being able to tip the ball there in the
end zone. But overall right, from starting defendings, CJ was
very decisive.
Speaker 1 (51:32):
He was efficient, great decision making, all damn all right.
Speaker 5 (51:36):
I'd have an issue with the way CJ played. I
think that what we wanted to see in absence of Nico.
What would this team look like? Correct me if I'm wrong, Guys,
I think I see CJ stroud in there. He was
asked about that. I want to hear from CJ here
just a little bit, Connor, if you'll find that for me.
CJ stride what was he he threw for one, two,
(51:59):
three to us? The one pick we talked about, sacked
a couple times. I saw my quarterback still get hit
more than I'm comfortable with. Gordon, saw my man on
the ground a little bit more. I get it. It's
the NFL. He did have a passer rating of one
hundred point five, so I'm not gonna go crazy there.
I was so bleep and happy we got to see
Davis Mills. When you see Davis Mills, Gordon and c J.
Stroud starts and finishes a game, that lets me know
(52:22):
it's a handed or the victory is handily in the basket.
And Davis Mills goes out there, not worried about him,
just saying it was good to see CJ. Come off
the field. Put your helmet up, Relax, my guy, put
your ball cap on. Job well done.
Speaker 1 (52:37):
C J.
Speaker 5 (52:37):
Stroud's QBR yesterday seventy four and a half out of
one hundred. I thought he was fine. Now to me,
and the numbers support that. My eyeball support that c J.
Stroud outplayed Drake May, and I get it. That's Drake
May's first career start, going up against a hell of
a defense, not casting in in spurts against the brother.
CJ had to outplay him and he did it.
Speaker 1 (53:00):
CJ.
Speaker 5 (53:00):
Stroud and led his team to do enough. There was
Tank Dale early, there was Stefan Diggs early. There was
mixing out of the backfield catching some passes. I mean
when you really start going down one, two, three, four
or five different receivers called a pass Dalton Shultz for
a reception for him granted twenty seven yards, but he
spread the ball around. I thought CJ. Was fine, He's
(53:21):
not gonna light it on fire. And what Paul's there
to do this on the other side. I asked you listening,
and I asked you to guys, I don't want to
hear that New England's a bad football team, right, I
don't want to care how injured they are makes no
never mind to me. It's the National Football League. And
even when it comes to some people saying this about
(53:42):
Will Anderson Jr. Oh your stat Padden like the greats,
never stat That's what these games are.
Speaker 7 (53:49):
You get your numbers at the end of the year.
That you're gonna say how many sacks did they have?
Not what sacks did they have?
Speaker 1 (53:56):
What weeks?
Speaker 5 (53:57):
Now, it's a win, I take it, it's in the conference.
I'll take it, and uh, come on back down to Houston.
Mostly healthy. There are some folks that make me nervous
about their health. We'll continue talking quarterbacks. Whatever you else,
you guys want to discuss as we bounce around the
long around the league as well. On the other side
seven one, three, two two five, seven ninety. Next up
the legendary KB.
Speaker 18 (54:18):
And me.
Speaker 4 (54:20):
This is next time stuff with Stan Northfleet and Chris Gordy.
Speaker 2 (54:25):
During this next stage on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 7 (54:31):
Yeah, this album is dedicated.
Speaker 1 (54:34):
Yeah, for sure. I definitely think that.
Speaker 20 (54:35):
I think, you know, we knew that we needed everybody
to step up, and once he did that, you know,
it was it was once everybody took on that challenge,
you know, I think we started rolling, and you know,
we didn't feel bad for ourselves and Nico wasn't out there.
We just try to, you know, pick up the slide
and really just be there for one another.
Speaker 1 (54:53):
And I felt like we did that.
Speaker 5 (54:55):
Hang On you Gotta Wears number seven for the Houston
text and CJ Stroup. Look, man, we knew that that
they would look different without Nico Collins, and there were
some laws. Certainly in that first half, there were some
laws in there, like and I don't have the drive
charred up, but there were some times and there was like,
(55:16):
all are y'all gonna let New England hang around here?
And the defense ramped it up created some opportunities. Who
was your vibe at halftime? It's fourteen to seven, Texans
are in trouble, like you can't allow an inferior team
to believe they have a chance. And here are the
Texans playing with their food again? How about you?
Speaker 7 (55:35):
Yeah, that's what I felt like it was because they
come out of the gates so strong. You're like, oh,
they're just taking the trash out. And then when they
get that touchdown pass and Robert Kraft high fiving in
the suite and I'm like, come on, man, don't let
this happen.
Speaker 1 (55:51):
And they knew they were getting the ball back. Can
you imagine?
Speaker 5 (55:54):
And then I mentioned, you know, Bobby Sloyk and we
should some love on him. This is now the second
time this season, at least the second time that the
Texans could have gone up three scores. They could have
kicked and gone up and they didn't, and it almost
came back to bite them. And then again second half
they makes I keep saying the second half. Demko was
(56:16):
asked what did he tell his team coming out of
the second half of their adjustments they made. Let me
hear Demico on this.
Speaker 15 (56:22):
Police right halftime, I just felt like we kind of
just during that second quarter, I felt like we kind
of took our foot off the gas and guy's kind
of relaxed, and it was just we had to flip
our mindset and understand, like.
Speaker 1 (56:34):
This is the NFL. Like guys aren't.
Speaker 15 (56:36):
Laying down, they're coming back out, they're making adjustments, they'll
be ready to go, and we just had to make
sure we got back to what we said we were
going to do, and that's execute and that's the only
thing that matter is us executing. And we kind of
fell into the law there and allowed them to get points.
Speaker 5 (56:53):
I think that's exactly what happened, Gordy. I think they
got up, they realized they were facing a rookie, they
were on the road, the game was in hand. They
saw everybody the Miko commented on it. CJ commented on it.
They talk about the energy this team gets when Joe
Mixon is running the football like that. He just infusing
something to that huddle and they just play differently all
(57:14):
the way around. Just four penalties lamby Tonzel like okay,
he got his ankle rolled up. Like they were fine,
even when Blake Fisher, the rookie tackle, had to go
in there. They were fine, and so I do think
and some of it is human nature. You just kind
of go, all right, they'll just lay down. They got
a rookie, we'll keep making plays. But they made him play.
(57:36):
And in the end, the Texans did enough, like I said,
for some of the starters to come off the field.
Some people will say, you know, oh, they didn't have
their number one running back and you know they were
banged up. They didn't have David Andrews at center. Oh,
the Texans are without starters too. The Texans didn't have
(57:57):
Jimmy Ward, they didn't have Nico Collins. Aziz al Shaya
scared the hell out of me. And I'm really praying
that his knee is all right or leg I saw
him fooling with it. I'm convinced at one point if
Henry told told wasn't concuss, he definitely saw the light. Gordy,
I know as a former linebacker, I've seen the light.
You had those moments like, good Lord, I can't see
(58:20):
just upon contact, you know what I mean. So this unit,
this defense now gonna be banged up a little bit
when this injury report comes out. Whenever that is what
is that Wednesday, but nonetheless they did enough again. No
Daniko Artrie, he returns. Happy to have him come back.
Hopefully he's healthy and ready to roll. But if you
(58:40):
compare what Drake May did yesterday and this will pop
back up tomorrow Gordy last year Week two, Anthony Richardson
mostly led offense, I shouldn't say mostly. Well, yeah, he
did put up fourteen points. Anthony Richardson Week two versus
the Domico defense, he put up thirty one points. They
(59:00):
put up thirty one points. They go down there to Atlanta.
Desmond Rider, a mid round second year player. I do
believe at the time he put up twenty one points
on this Demko defense. We know that they lose on
the road at Carolina. Coming out of the bieweek last
year by fifteen Zach Wilson, the now journeyman that he is,
they put up the Jets in New in MetLife they
(59:23):
put up thirty and then yesterday in his first career start,
you get Drake May putting up twenty one. Does this
team have a problem with young dudes and unproven, inexperienced
dudes putting up multiple touchdowns on him? Now, I'm not
gonna raise hell now because I'm in a good move.
(59:44):
But tomorrow I'm gonna go back and look at this
film you praised Drake May. Obviously they have something to
build on. It was never could he play? It was
was this the right time to put him out there?
Should they put him out there?
Speaker 1 (59:57):
Sooner or later? He played? How he played?
Speaker 5 (59:59):
What was he? Drake May twenty of thirty three. That's
sixty one percent two hundred and forty three yards three
tuds per ESPN research, the second Patriots quarterback to record
at least three tds in their first career start, joining
the Tom not Brady, but u Chic back in nineteen
sixty two. All Right, Drake May, CJ. Drake May has
(01:00:21):
a hall ball offensive line. Many people said the same
thing about CJ, given how banged up the Texans were
a year ago. I'm not here for the excuses. I'm
not gonna let people take anything and try and pooh
pooh this win by the Texans quarter Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
It's it's it's again.
Speaker 7 (01:00:37):
You've had too many close wins and I don't care
who the opponent was. I said, go out there and
just you gotta beat somebody soundly. And they finally did that.
So uh again, that looks to me more like that
Texans team we thought we were getting at the start
of the year.
Speaker 1 (01:00:52):
Can I ask you something. Let's take these phone calls.
Speaker 5 (01:00:54):
Let's get Josh and Mylin and I'll grab my guy
Tony and Sugarlan because I hadn't heard from him in
just a second. Where's CJ at right now on your
MVP board? Well that's how Yeah, let me get to that.
Can I get you down on the side.
Speaker 7 (01:01:05):
Oh yeah, you said you posted a question. It was like,
think about the question. Let me grant break.
Speaker 5 (01:01:12):
They didn't hear it. That's why I'm posing it to you.
Damn going and don't bring people behind the curtain.
Speaker 7 (01:01:17):
Well, you said during the break you said this question,
and I've been thinking about it. I'm gonna tell you
what I think in a minute. Let's get to our
calls first. Josh and Marlin, good morning.
Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
Hey morning. I'll answer the question. I'll answer the question.
Speaker 21 (01:01:31):
I probably got CJ somewhere around fourth or fifth on
my MVP back.
Speaker 5 (01:01:37):
That's probably a reasonable place for him to be. He
hadn't had but really one of those wow games, so
that's fair.
Speaker 21 (01:01:44):
Yeah, yeah, I mean yeah, he's he's up there, but
he's definitely not at the top. And I've heard a
lot of people, you know today and yesterday kind of
worrying about CJ and having a lower game as far
as yards go and through the pick. But I look
at it as you know, the running game gonna pu
up two hundred yards. CJ can throw one seventy three
(01:02:05):
touches and you know, and I'm happy to point you
know that that's I'm not worried about, you know, him
not putting up to eighty you know, like he's been
doing all year.
Speaker 5 (01:02:15):
Yeah, I'm not concerned with CJ. Shroudd Listen every game
and that's why I say it coming into the season.
Appreciate you, Josh and Miler. Look, every game is not
gonna be whe and you just fireworks fireworks. Did I
think this roster with a healthy Kneekos, Steph Diggs, Joe mixing,
healthy Dalton shows this offensive line the whole five headed monster,
Did I think they could lead the league and score it?
Speaker 1 (01:02:36):
Yes, on paper they have that type of ability.
Speaker 5 (01:02:40):
However, you got to go play the game, and the
most important thing about playing the game is getting a
bleep and win. This team has laced them up on
a Sunday and didn't win one time when they had
their doors blown off. Now we'll see we've seen Minnesota again.
It'll be in New Orleans at the Super Bowl. We'll
see if we get some get back against that team.
I don't care who it is. Kansas City has weeks
(01:03:01):
in this run. They've been on can Sey have weeks
where they just get beat. It happens. It's the National
Football League. So I'm not gonna trip about that. C
J Stroud for me, what is he right now?
Speaker 10 (01:03:11):
C J.
Speaker 5 (01:03:11):
Stroud is seventh, yes, seventh in the NFL and quarterback rating.
Where is he at in passer rating? CJ is twelfth
in passer rating. We mentioned the ten touchdowns, four in deceptions.
What is he completing sixty eight percent of his wall?
CJ's fine, He's putting this team in position to win.
(01:03:33):
The tip passes that are gonna get picked off, that
stuff is going to happen.
Speaker 1 (01:03:37):
Now.
Speaker 5 (01:03:37):
The interceptions he threw in Buffalo, throwing it directly to
the linebacker, now.
Speaker 1 (01:03:40):
That can't happen.
Speaker 7 (01:03:42):
Yeah, he's sixth in passing yards, He's fifteen in touchdown passes.
It's just It's a tough thing to just go with
stats though, too, because Baker Mayfield he's got fifteen touchdown passes,
but he's got five interceptions. You just three three of
them this week, and he's one of the most sacked
quarterbacks in the league at seven seventeen.
Speaker 1 (01:03:58):
Joe Burrow is two and four or he doesn't. You know,
he's not in there. Five and one. Jordan Love will
be up.
Speaker 7 (01:04:05):
Sam Donold was getting some lave early on, but his
statistics have kind of mellowed out. The last couple of
Lamar Jackson will be up there, Mars up there, but
I can make a case on Mars not even the
best player on his team this year. Hark Kennedy is
a man all rushers?
Speaker 1 (01:04:18):
What she is? What eight rushing touchdowns? All right?
Speaker 5 (01:04:20):
Uh? Connor is telling me I have to break Tony
and sugar Land. I hope you give us a little bit.
Let me do this thing. I'll grab you on other
side so that you have adequate time. This is next
up Fleet and Gordy thirty minutes from now. Matt Thomas
or Rossfrierria. I think Matt is out. Ross is running
the show Sports Talk seven ninety to the.
Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
Next to the world. This is next up.
Speaker 1 (01:04:39):
You kind of hit on everything I wanted to say.
Speaker 4 (01:04:42):
With Stan nor Fleet and Chris Gordy on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (01:04:47):
All right, let's get back to the business here in
the Sports Talk seven ninety studios. Welcome in the next up.
Fleet here, Gordy, there, Tony and sugar Land on the
other side. As promised, What up Tony the morning.
Speaker 1 (01:05:01):
How y'all doing. I'm feeling great, many man.
Speaker 10 (01:05:05):
Let me just say this real quick, bro, that that boy.
Speaker 1 (01:05:08):
You gotta agree with me on this one. I know
you will.
Speaker 22 (01:05:10):
That's the first two drives, Bro.
Speaker 8 (01:05:13):
The Texans were dogs. The office was straight up dogs.
And I don't understand this. This is what the Texans
gotta be. They gotta be dogs. You can't be conservative
and dogs at the same time.
Speaker 22 (01:05:23):
You're gonna either come out letting the defense know we
we we're.
Speaker 13 (01:05:27):
Attacking that ass.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
I'm telling y'all right now, we're coming out.
Speaker 2 (01:05:30):
That's not the Texans gotta beat up.
Speaker 1 (01:05:31):
But they got that offense, they got the talent that
be dogs.
Speaker 10 (01:05:34):
Now, then they had a couple of dad.
Speaker 1 (01:05:35):
A couple of hits ups in the in the second quarter.
But they try to go conservatives continue to.
Speaker 10 (01:05:40):
Be on the take.
Speaker 1 (01:05:41):
If the Texans play ball like that, bro, they hard
to beat.
Speaker 22 (01:05:44):
So when you talk about CJ. Stroud being VP status,
they got a call plays that support the best player.
Speaker 1 (01:05:51):
On their team and that CJ.
Speaker 16 (01:05:53):
Strong.
Speaker 1 (01:05:53):
Yeah, you got Joe Mixon, we get that.
Speaker 2 (01:05:55):
But CJ.
Speaker 1 (01:05:56):
Stroud is the best player of your team.
Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
Complains that support who he is.
Speaker 22 (01:06:00):
He that needs a you coming out and you called
it four pass plays in a row.
Speaker 2 (01:06:04):
It is what it is. That's who your dog is.
Speaker 22 (01:06:08):
Call your offense based on your best player on your team,
and that takes is gonna be hard to be brot my.
Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
Man, Tony Sugarland, thank you so much. Brother.
Speaker 5 (01:06:16):
I try not to get you guys holding that long,
but sometime we just run out of time. From a
break standpoint, listen, Tony sparked the thought from me. I
don't necessarily have an issue with the play calling. Bobby
Slowd could have pretty much called plays blindfolded on Sunday
when you got Joe Mixing and Damian Piers running the
(01:06:37):
ball like that, which allows you to play action. When
you got guys that are good route runners and that
can run the complete route tree and can line up anywhere,
like Tank.
Speaker 1 (01:06:47):
Dale, like Steph Diggs.
Speaker 5 (01:06:50):
There's really nothing that's off limits as long as the
old line is doing their part, and for the overwhelming
majority of the time they were. But let me just
throw this point to you. Go there if I get
you to react to this. You know one thing that
bothers me in sports. I hate fake tough guys, and
I hate fake toughness. And I don't use that word
(01:07:11):
hate a lot, but that's one of the things I hate.
Don't try and come like when you have guys. When
Lebron was trying to embrace the villain role after going
to Miami, that's fake. Stop that You're not a villain.
You never have been stopped this This should do with
Sanders and John Moran wants to be a gangster because
(01:07:32):
he's in Memphis with the Grizzlies and he listened to
a lot of hip hop.
Speaker 1 (01:07:35):
Stop ad on that fake I want.
Speaker 5 (01:07:38):
To see that dog mentality, that bully, that bully bomb.
I want to see if the Texans can bottle us
up and get on the airplane again and go into
lambeau Field and do it. Because as physical and as
swarm mentality and all that bleep that they sold us
last year. We were all watching when they went in
the M and T Bank Stadium on the harbor of
Baltimore last year when everything was part of for real,
(01:08:01):
when it was win or go home, a team that
they had faced previously and the other team in Baltimore
wearing that black, gold and purple. They were tough for real,
and I watched a Texans team coward.
Speaker 1 (01:08:14):
They wanted no part of Baltimore.
Speaker 7 (01:08:16):
Now about this. That Green Bay team we know they
you know Jordan Love what it's the game or two?
Wis Milik Willis did pretty well for them. They have two.
They're four and two. They have two losses. Week one
lost by five to Philly. Week four lost by two
two Minnesota. That was the one in London. That's the
only two losses, very close losses. So good football team
(01:08:41):
that plays well at home. So it's gonna be a tough,
tough challenge for you, Mike Lafleur. Where does he come from?
Speaker 5 (01:08:47):
The Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay tree like, the Texans
are going to know him. They are going to know
them stylistically anyway, We'll see Jod Love versus CJ. Josh Jake,
the running back for Green Bay formerly of the Las
Vegas Raiders versus what is now a healthy Joe Mixon.
And then we'll see their plethorit riote receivers, most of
(01:09:09):
those guys young versus Steph Diggs, Tank Dale. We'll see,
you know, hutch Robert Woods didn't go on Sunday. We'll
see if Metchi and some of those other guys can
step up.
Speaker 7 (01:09:19):
Oh one more real quick for it. Bet Online just
updated their defensive Player of the Year.
Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
Odds Defensive Player of the Year.
Speaker 7 (01:09:25):
Okay, so last week the favorite was Aiden Hutchinson.
Speaker 1 (01:09:28):
Yes he breaks his tivy.
Speaker 7 (01:09:30):
He is now done, so he is off the board,
So everybody moves up.
Speaker 1 (01:09:35):
TJ. Watt now the odds on favorite at three to
two odds. He's a real tough guy.
Speaker 7 (01:09:39):
Tied for second best odds at eight to one. Fred
Warner of the forty nine ers. He's an excellent player,
best inside on ball linebacker with Will Anderson Jr.
Speaker 5 (01:09:47):
Will at five the second best, second best odds. Will
Anderson Junior Defensive the Year one. Good lord, and they're
they're head of Chris Jones, Dexter, Lawrence, Nick Boson, Max
Crossby again, this is week to week. They change us
every week, so this is reacting to his three sack
Will He's now top five in the league in sacks.
(01:10:08):
Not crazy. And here comes to Niko Utrie. Somebody please
tell me. I gotta get Aaron Wilson on here tomorrow, Gordon,
I gotta know what the hell is going on with disease.
I am so concerned about disease. Halshire who left that
game on Sunday. I'm nervous. I don't like the Texas
already there at backer. By the way, I might have
misspoken and said that Will Anderson led this team and tackles.
My apologies. Let me give nevill Hewitt with a z's
(01:10:31):
going down Neville Hewitt.
Speaker 7 (01:10:32):
Actually they imagine though he goes like the greatness of
Will Anderson, if he goes from defensive Rookie of the
Year the next year to winning defensive player.
Speaker 5 (01:10:41):
There's a guy that used to play here on defense.
His name is not w AJ, it is JJ Dubb,
but justin James Watt used to do stuff like that.
I don't did JJ get Rookie of the Year on defense?
I can't remember, but he used to do stuff like that.
Bran Cushing, Dad, let's go back to the phone line
seven one, three, two two five ninety. Couple other people.
(01:11:01):
I want to brag on killer cow. You watched the
Texas game, man, where you at? Hey?
Speaker 18 (01:11:07):
Uh?
Speaker 10 (01:11:07):
Before I get to my point, man, uh, you struck
a minor nerve with me, and I got to speak.
Speaker 1 (01:11:13):
On Oh of course I did. What now? Cal Hey, bro, you.
Speaker 10 (01:11:17):
Know I love you, man, But uh, if I can
remember last year, even when we played Baltimore the first
game halftime was seven to six. Yes, and in the
playoffs half yeah right, yes, correct, yes, right, you use
the words they got coward. You don't get coward. Uh
(01:11:37):
going to somebody stadium ten ten and you're undermanned and
everything across them. No, I watched the game. I watched
the game several times. You got to you had Nico'collins
and who else as your wide receivers?
Speaker 1 (01:11:53):
Collins was there?
Speaker 5 (01:11:54):
Uh, Damien Pearce was healthy then. But Devin Motor Singletary
played in that game. Dalton Schutz played in that game.
And we can go look at that second half when
them bullets from Baltimore and they're not the only one.
San Francisco consistently plays bully ball, Baltimore consistently, Pittsburgh consistently,
Philadelphia Eagles mostly like I want to see, and these
(01:12:16):
are teams that do it in the postseason, in the
regular season at home, on the road. So all I'm saying,
and I know why I struck a nerve the way
that Texans pushed New England around the field in the
second half. Specifically, you can't go do that on the
road against a better opponent.
Speaker 1 (01:12:33):
I want to see what that looks.
Speaker 10 (01:12:36):
I get that, But it's one thing to get beat,
it's another thing to quit and County no.
Speaker 1 (01:12:43):
No, no, no no.
Speaker 5 (01:12:44):
I saw liamby tunsl getting penalties in Baltimore talking about
the noise. I saw Titus Howard and Shaq Mason getting penalties.
I saw dudes that wanted because it was Coda's hell,
and I saw dudes want no part of it. Maybe
it's just me as and I know, you know guys
around the city, a lot of former NFL as and
a lot of college guys live and work in the city.
(01:13:04):
Ask them killer Cow. As a player, you can look
at the body language of another player and you can
tell when they don't want it anymore.
Speaker 1 (01:13:10):
And I could take the Texans in that second. They
want it more.
Speaker 10 (01:13:14):
Let me make my quick points, right, Nico Collins being out,
I don't. I'm not one of these guys that want
to put Bobby Tree on a crucifix, So I don't
none of that. But with Nico Collins being out, you
have to find ways to target Hutchison and Mitch. You
have to go out of your ways to get those
(01:13:34):
guys involved.
Speaker 1 (01:13:35):
That's number one.
Speaker 10 (01:13:36):
Number two, everybody want to put uh what's name.
Speaker 1 (01:13:41):
Eric Murray on the cross.
Speaker 10 (01:13:43):
My problem is so many times I was secondary been
out scheme. There's no way that a backup safety should
be holding a slot receiver man, the man pressed on
a drag route.
Speaker 1 (01:13:54):
Think about it this way.
Speaker 5 (01:13:55):
Think about this way, killer caw and I know I'm
up against it here. Maybe we should tip our cap
to the offensive coordinator on the other side, which put
his player in position to create that mismatch. You understand
what I'm saying.
Speaker 10 (01:14:11):
Okay, there's no reason to ever have a safety and
a man one of them. It's just never like, what
do you have nickelbacks?
Speaker 19 (01:14:21):
For?
Speaker 10 (01:14:22):
Everybody that we put in the nickel right now is safety.
That's p Tree and we got murried. Where's the other nickelbacks?
And I understand Ocola is hurt, he's not there, But
where's the Disney King? Where's somebody else? You need callers
to hold wide receivers in the slote. So no, that's
that's us being our scheme. But hey, I know we
(01:14:42):
shot on time. Thanks for giving me an opportunity event
like that, and I continue to listen.
Speaker 1 (01:14:47):
Man, y'all have a good day, my man killer Cal.
Speaker 5 (01:14:49):
I'm still with the Texas. Just we're early in this process. Gordon,
We're a year and a half into this relationship. Like,
let's okay, everything ain't gonna go great. All right, Let's
bounce around the league. Final thought on what we saw Sunday.
Let's go around the league as well. Gordon will give
us some things just stood out to him. We'll continue
to take your phone calls. Also set one, three, five,
(01:15:09):
seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
It again onto the next tour.
Speaker 1 (01:15:17):
What's next?
Speaker 4 (01:15:18):
I's more of Next Up continues now on Sports Talk
seven ninety home of Your World Champion Houston Astros.
Speaker 15 (01:15:30):
Kaitlyn shows up every week around the football and that's
the reason why we drafted Caitlin. He showed that in college,
and it's it's cool to see, like that's that's who
Kaylen is, right is. He did it in college and
now he's doing it here in the league. The game
isn't too big for him, and he made made a
ton of plays again him intercepting the ball, getting the fumble,
Like very proud of him.
Speaker 5 (01:15:51):
Puzzle Themiko Ryan's on the third round draft selection out
of University of Southern California. That was the hell of
a game you seeing Penn State on Saturday. Gordon came
down to the wire. Let's wrap things up here on
Next Up Live from the seven ninety studios here in
the galleria again. Demiko Ryans on Kaylen Bullock coming up
with another interception Gordon. Two on the year for him,
(01:16:15):
four past deflections as well, and I think the future
is quite bright for that young man right there. Jimmy
Ward did not go and so Kaylen Bullock gets what
his second career start. And I think that every time
Calen Bullet touches the field, cause he just makes a
play like you can clear it now. Some people say,
(01:16:37):
what's the difference in lasted than Bullock? Obviously last of
it went in the second round. Lassiter was given the
running back two spot off the top, Kaitln has had
to fight scratching claw a little bit more. Last of
didn't play in the preseason Bullock did. I think one
guy has used his opportunities and it has helped and
(01:16:58):
get him prepared to take advance of the plays that
he can make, and he's making them. It hadn't been,
you know, spotless. I just like Kainglean Bullock. I'm sorry,
opportunity to talk about Kayle the bullock.
Speaker 7 (01:17:09):
I'm gonna talk about I got some quick hitters if
you want me to hit you with him on our
way out here.
Speaker 5 (01:17:14):
Texas related before we go to the rest of the league,
All sports, all right, what you got?
Speaker 1 (01:17:18):
All right? Real quick?
Speaker 7 (01:17:20):
ESPN announcing they are doing a whole takeover heading to
Austin this weekend. Texas, Georgia uniting college football with Formula one.
Of course, the Big US Grand Prix at the Circuit
of the Americas is happening.
Speaker 1 (01:17:33):
Can't find a hotel? College Game Day will broadcast live.
Speaker 7 (01:17:36):
We knew that Saturday Morning Sports Center will begin airing
live starting Friday afternoon from the Circuit whatever that f
one thing. Good Morning America will have a live report
on site. El Duncan will bring the L Duncan Show,
like you said. They will also have their ESPN Radio tailgate.
Quavo Grammy nominated artists will be on site at various
(01:18:00):
college football and F one integration.
Speaker 1 (01:18:02):
One part of Rap Group Migos.
Speaker 7 (01:18:03):
They'll have on site fan experiences for all the fans
in Austin to go experience both F one and college
football stuff they will have. I mean, like it's just
it's the list goes on and on the stuff that
they're gonna have. I just as Steve Starkesian just said, Yeah,
a lot happening in Austin this weekend with F one
and College Game Day being here. I think to the
point I made to the players, we need to continue
to stay enamored with us and what we need to
(01:18:26):
do and focus on the task at hand.
Speaker 1 (01:18:27):
That's where you can easily get distracted.
Speaker 5 (01:18:29):
Steve Sarkisian was focused on a task at hand there
via the All State Red River rivalry, which was about
a rivalry for a half of football twenty one to
three at halftime, and I didn't watching snap a second.
Speaker 7 (01:18:43):
But it was three minutes to go, four minutes to go,
and a half it was seven to three. If you're Oklahoma,
Oklahoma just got stupid. They give up score, fumbled the
ball away, and that quickly it was all she wrote.
Speaker 5 (01:18:54):
Texas destroys Oklahoma thirty four to three. They remain a
number one team in the land. There's a new number
two team in the land, Gordon Number three. Oregon hosts
Ohio State. Gotta get Jonathan Wells in here at some point.
Got to get him to tell me what they'll happen.
Speaker 7 (01:19:09):
Drop Ohio State real far though they acknowledged this is
a matchup we could definitely see again in the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (01:19:15):
I mentioned USC hosting Penn State what would have been
a Rose Bowl many years ago in a different area
of college football. Penn State wins in overtime, number four
ranked team in the country at that time.
Speaker 1 (01:19:27):
AP came out yesterday.
Speaker 5 (01:19:31):
Let me see where we are AP wise, Gordon State,
Penn State moved up to three. All right, so you
got there's Georgia at five. So we get one versus
five in Austin today. Who else moved up?
Speaker 1 (01:19:41):
All right?
Speaker 5 (01:19:41):
You'll buy you Bengals big big ball game there versus
old miss by YOUU Bengals prevail your up five spots
and the number eight. You gotta be feeling good and baton
rouge quietly. The Clemson Tigers a our top ten program again,
Gordon k club Nick has things looking a little better.
Speaker 1 (01:19:57):
And look at their schedule playing. Yeah, so that's my problem.
Speaker 7 (01:20:02):
Those we get to the end of the year and
you played the charmansoft schedule. Should should a two loss
team with a tougher schedule get.
Speaker 1 (01:20:09):
In over you. It's a conversation we'll have.
Speaker 7 (01:20:11):
I think that's where the college Playoff Committee becomes more
like the NCAAA committee, where you start factoring in better
losses over bad wins. You know, speaking of college basketball,
ap Pole just dropped you of h number four.
Speaker 1 (01:20:26):
Nice?
Speaker 5 (01:20:27):
Can I digress real quick? And we'll do just some
quick nuggets here. How about if you look at the
bottom of the top twenty five in football. In football,
thank you SMUs up for spots at twenty one.
Speaker 1 (01:20:40):
But how about that, for the first.
Speaker 5 (01:20:42):
Time since nineteen sixty the academies the Farm Black Knights
are ranked.
Speaker 1 (01:20:49):
Oh no, it used to be go to nights. I'm
sorry they are twenty third.
Speaker 7 (01:20:54):
Might still be blacking they both they both may they
both still play notre Dame. But yeah, I mean we
could literally stay. You're talking about that large bit on
the line Army Navy outside just the rivalry and passionate traditions.
Speaker 1 (01:21:08):
Top twenty.
Speaker 7 (01:21:08):
That could be a game for a playing spot to
the Cult Football Playoff? How crazy would that be if
I get the ticket to that one?
Speaker 5 (01:21:14):
Also, last one here, my god, Deshaun Watson, the Browns quarterback.
Deshaun Watson is zero for his last twenty five third downs.
And then what did I see? Phil Yates? The Browns
have now become the first team in ten years to
score under twenty points in each of its first six
(01:21:36):
games of the season. Cleveland has now scored once in
its last twenty nine drives.
Speaker 7 (01:21:42):
How about this. He had a thirty four point four
QBR on Sunday that was the second highest of the season.
Speaker 1 (01:21:47):
It's just Deshaun Washson. It could be over. I need
a massage.
Speaker 5 (01:21:53):
What's also over is us for the day we had
the reins over to Rossburr Real. He's going to drive
to Matt Thomas show. Think mad is out today. Thanks
to all of you, Connord, good to have you back.
There's Gordie. I'm flee you go listen to the show
at sports Excuse Me, Sports seven night dot com. You
can also catch us on the free iHeartRadio app. Thanks
to all of you who allow us to do the
(01:22:14):
thing called next Up each and every day, maintaining our
status as your home for Houston sports. Enjoy your lunch,
God willing, we'll do this again tomorrow. Y'all be well.
Peace to you,
