Today we spoke with Alex Simanis, owner of Ballard Sails, and are now Doyle Seattle. A bright and engaging individual, Alex takes us inside the decision to go to Doyle, how their sailmaking business has evolved, and what is happening in terms of new projects. Enjoy!
If you don't know who designer Thomas Tison is, you will now. Tempesta spends the better part of an hour visiting with Tison, from his AC involvement, to his very fast 48' Elita, built of wood, to his latest, the stunning small foiler called the Airborn.
Thomas is a smart and interesting dude, and we are sure you'll enjoy the podcast.
Our special guest today was French designer Sam Manuard (or as I like to say, use your best hillbilly voice here) Sam ManYOU ard. I'm such a dope.
Hot off their impressive class and overall win in the 2026 Transatlantic Race, Sam joined me to talk about the Mach 50 canting keel, daggerboard scow offshore weapon.
I found him to be more than happy to talk openly about the new boat, how it sailed, and what they learned.
Today Tempesta spends too long talking about essentially two boats. The "foiling" Baltic 111' Raven, and the Sam Manuard-designed 50' Scow, Palanad4. His "takes" are ridiculous.
But then he reminds us what a failure he is with his IOM story. Oh boy...
What a total bummer/elation set of emotions for the winner/not winner of the Sydney to Hobart Race! Tempest does his best to enlighten y'all on what went down.
Enjoy!
The Sailing Anarchy Podcast #70

Well, Tempesta went sailing yesterday. Sure he did. Listen to his lame version of sailing. Also, he rips into ORC, his most favorite rating system in the whole wide world!
The Sailing Anarchy Podcast
Tempesta offers up a pretty funny story that some of you may have missed, he gives you some Hot Rum Series ingo (via DC), and jumps in on the recently completed IOM nationals.
All that and a bag of chips.
Today we spoke to legendary sailor Moose McClintock about an array of subjects, starting with America dropping out of the America's Cup, The NYYC Rolex Cup in the IC 37's, where the sport is thriving, where it isn't, etc.
Love that dude. Enjoy!
We talk model boat racing with AMYA president Len Bose. He convinced me I have to get back to it, so I am ordering a new DF 95!
Lee Goolden, the man behind the nothing short of amazing Tally Ho videos, joined us today for an hour to talk about everything that has gone into this huge rebuild program. Leo is delightfully straightforward and just such a good dude. Enjoy this one!
Charlie Enright, the new CEO of US Sailing, joined us today for a robust discussion of all things sailing, er, US Sailing!
Engaging and bright, Charlie takes us down the often muddy road of US Sailing - where's it been, where it is, and where it wants to go!
This is a fantastic interview, and I hope you enjoy it!
You say you'd like to win the Chicago Mackinac race? Well, maybe you didn't win that one, but how about the
The Bayview to Mackinac race, which starts a week earlier. No?
How about winning them both, in the same year? That's exactly what Bob Hughes, owner of the TP 52 Heartbreaker did this summer!
Bob shares what those races were like and how they pulled off the double. Enjoy!
Today, we talk with Quantum San Diego's Eric Heim, who just helped drive the Cal 40 Restless to both its class and Overall win in the just-completed 2025 Transpac.
A great story with plenty of good stuff. And apologies - like an idiot, I hit the wrong button and the last couple minutes didn't record!
Alex Camet joins us live from Lake Garda, Italy for the Moth Worlds, where he is coaching American Zack Downing. Listen to the infinite details of what it takes to sail these things! Love it!
