Chronorama. Istantanee dal Novecento

Chronorama. Istantanee dal Novecento

English and French available below. The 20th century was a time of wars and misery, but also of great prosperity and beauty. Magazines like Vogue and Vanity Fair were the places where photography tried to show how times were changing and how styles were evolving from one decade to another. “Chronorama. Snapshots from the 20th century” is a three-part audio story that takes us inside the exhibition: “Chronorama. Photographic treasures from the 20th century.” Opening on 12 March at Palazzo Grassi, Venice. The exhibition consists of over 400 photos from the Condé Nast archive, some of which were recently acquired by the Pinault Collection. The narration invites the listener to focus on some of these images and portraits: Jean Cocteau; David Niven; Susan Sontag; Federico Fellini and Giulietta Masina; the Beatles; Arnold Schwarzenegger; as well as less celebrated figures such as Dr. Mary Walker and Björn Andrésen. Through the gaze of great photographers such as Irving Penn and Cecil Beaton, Helmut Newton and Robert Doisneau, the 20th century is once again before our eyes. “Chronorama. Snapshots from the 20th century” is not an invitation to nostalgia and regret, but to observe with attention, curiosity and affection an era that is now behind us.
