Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
with our.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Radio It's almost Famous podcast. We are so pumped to
still be at the Bachelor Mansion. Yes, we are celebrating
everything good in the world. We've got the Golden Bachelorettes here.
We've got some of Bachelor Nation's absolute best, and Joe
and Serena are definitely on that list. Joe and Serena,
welcome to the almost in his podcast once again.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Hi, Thanks Ben, thanks for having us. Hi.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Now, you guys are really good at this. This is
intimidating for me because you guys are also professional podcasters,
you know what.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Caitlin and Dean said that to us as well, and
I'm like, I feel like that's a very generous compliment
for me. I feel that you've been doing this for
a while. I feel I'm still slightly new to this.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Yeah, and I had to like redo the beginning of
our podcast multiple times because I kept screwing it up.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
But we blamed all the fact that he's like back
at the mansion and like he's nervous tonight because he
got some home last time he was here.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
He's never been here. Yeah, he was here for five hours.
Joe how actually long were you in the mansion?
Speaker 1 (00:59):
I want to say, So we get here at what time?
Seven thirty pm?
Speaker 2 (01:05):
And I was sent early Limo.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Do you know I was an early Limo. Okay, I
was an early Limo and I was sent home at
probably I want to say it was probably like eight am.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Now I'm gonna ask you some questions, mostly because I'm
selfish and I've always wanted to know this please, So
my biggest concern. Okay, So when I went on the Bachelorette,
my buddies came over, just don't go home night one. Well, yeah,
they're like, don't go home night one, and they said this,
They literally said this to me. They're like, there's a
lot of studs there, like we think you could be
there for at least two weeks. And I was like, well,
(01:37):
what the hell does that mean? Like I think I
can be there till the very end. But they're like,
there's a lot of like really cool dudes that come
to that. And so I showed to La and I
was like, all I need to do is make it
past night one so that I don't have to tell
my friends and family like, hey, this didn't work out.
Now obviously this worked out for you. You've done incredible
from it. It's every fear that like I would have had,
(02:00):
You've like far accomplished.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
But I've given those Night one people hope you're Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
So when you got back in the lima on night one,
were you like I was devastated. Yeah, devastated, but also
for me it would go more to personal confidence. Yeah,
it was.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
It was so my friends basically said like, I think
you're either going home night one or you're gonna be
there till the end, and I kind of thought the same.
But I was like, in my head, I was like,
I'm not going to go home night one. And as
soon as I walked in, as soon as I had
my first conversation, I was like, there's nothing I could do.
(02:38):
I can't save myself. I'm actually gonna go home. And yeah,
I mean it was.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
It was.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
It was terrible, But when it happened like the next day,
I kind of just like laughed it off. I was like,
there's literally nothing I could do except laugh about it.
And then the show doesn't air for like three months,
so you prep and you're just like okay. Like and
my cousin, she was a big fan of this show.
She's like, they don't even show Night one. People like
you're not no one's even gonna.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Know, and everyone knew, and then everyone.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Out. I got lucky. Yeah, he became the guy. I mean, honestly,
it was. It's been a good look for you, now, Serena.
How long were you in the mansion?
Speaker 3 (03:14):
So I've never been This is my first time here,
which is actually very exciting. So I was a COVID season.
So we filmed in Pennsylvania.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Pennsylvania, Yeah, which I think you guys came for. I
came for a date date.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
No, I wasn't on that date.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
But wasn't there a season? Not to cut you off,
but wasn't there, Like, wasn't like part of like, oh
but you weren't on Jojo was on your season?
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Okay, so we were, we were, I remember Jojo. That's
a great.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Just a little flashback moment. No, so we were the
second COVID seasons. There was Tasha and Claire season and
then we had our season and yeah, so I've never
I've never been here.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
What does it feel like to be in the mansion
for the first time?
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Though, it's actually very cool.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
I was excited to come here because I'm like in
the minority of people in this franchise that have never
set foot in the mansion and we obviously watched the
show and recap it now, so yeah, it's cool.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
It's like an.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Iconic location, like even if you aren't like an active
watcher of the Bachelor franchise, Like everyone knows the Bachelor mansion.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
I was gonna say, I wish to heat, but I
feel I feel like they might have got a going.
It's getting better, it's getting it's getting warmer.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
No, my glass was frosted when we first recorded in here.
It's getting better.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Well, California's forty degrees and I never expected this.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
It's horrible and we're up.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
In the hills now it is beautiful. The house is gorgeous.
It is iconic. There's no furniture in here. I mean
it's absolutely empty because I think they literally just use
it to film the show. Now, Oh really, I don't know.
I mean when I walked in, I was like, there's
no way they moved all this out for us.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
I'm going to highly dobte the owners are like in
need of Like I wouldn't be surprised, like Bachelor's paid
off that.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
Mortgage by now you know they've been using it for
so many years.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
I think they're loving owning this house.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
Yeah, this is the best investment that face. Is this proper.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
I'll take this investment any day of the week.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
So it's your first time in the mansion. You've been
breaking down the show on your podcast, which is called
Happy Hour bachel Happy Hour, and you have been co
host now officially for how long?
Speaker 4 (05:23):
We started in July July August director.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
No, six months. Six months we.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Were working this Sunday together.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
It is It's something that we we had talked about
prior and we both felt comfortable going into it. We
had did some podcasts together. I was part of Clickbait,
which was the other Bachel Nation podcast, and she was
a guest and helped me co host that a few times,
and it just was kind of seamless, and it was
something you know, like people like, oh, I don't want
to work with my significant other, but like we it's
(05:54):
it's easy for us, and it's not like we're we're
not on top of each other. It's not every day,
you know, film a podcast once a week, twice a week,
so it's easy.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
The first time we ever co hosted together was with
Zach Shallcross The Last Bachelor. We did a live podcast
in Atlanta.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
And that was her first one adience.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Yeah, from a live audience. We never co hosted together.
I didn't have that much podcasting experience. I mean I
did one season and Joe had done a lot, and
I was like, They're gonna send us out there live
tonight together and just see how this goes.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
And actually it went great. We had an amazing time.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
I think it would have been different if I was
like joining Clickbait, which was like, really Joe had been
a part of for so long. This felt fun because
it was like we were both joining Happy Hour. It
was like new to both of us and we're talking
about something that like we have been a part of.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Serena, I'm truly I'm a mess. Serena is. She'll act
like she doesn't like she's nervous, she doesn't know how
it's gonna go. She is a professional, She's been a
professional from the beginning. She's extremely articulate and like, honestly,
I lean on her and she's always there. So that's
really nice. You're really good.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
You're really good too.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
The natural like qualities of being a podcaster, and you
too obviously show it. I remember when Ashley and I
had a kind of a crossover episode a couple of
months ago with you too, You're just getting started.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Yeah, that was right at the beginning. It was like
maybe like one of.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
The how much easier is it they'll to do this
in person opposed so much easier zoom zoom.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
It's it does.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
It's just more fun in person.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Yeah, it almost feels weird, like it feels like I'm
having too much fun. Like it's almost feels like too easy.
It's too easy, where like I don't know how long
these conversations are going. Yeah, we're on zoom. I have
a very clear like I have a time, I stand.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
A time or usually when we're on zoom, but we
were just recording with Devan Halen and we probably could
have gone for an hour sure, because you just start chatting.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Yeah, life helps, which I think is great. And that's
why we're here. I mean, that's why we, you know,
have the mansion. That's what we all came to the
mansion is to catch up with everybody, to celebrate with everybody.
It's the holiday season and to be at the mansion
I think is a uniquely like cool experience for everybody
because it does bring back a lot of memories for
some and then also for like the two of you
who haven't spent as much time here. It's just cool
(08:26):
to see, Like it's cool to be at the mansion.
I was just FaceTime with my aunt as I showed you,
because she's a huge fan. I was like, I'm here.
I want to show you this place while I'm here,
h And she was freaking out, like, Oh, there's the
rose ceremony room, there's the living room.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
What major memories is to bring back for you because
you spent a lot of time, a lot of time here.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
He spent two seasons here.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Yeah, mostly bachelor atte memories, like a lot of like
fraternities type stuff. Like I walked outside. I was telling Jess,
this is like the yard that we worked out in,
and this is the loop I did when I wanted
to run. Oh, it's her first time here, it's her
first time here. It's my first time since I was
the bachelor. I'm walked into this building since I was
the bachelor.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
And so for me, But I guess you spend so
much more time here as a contest number.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
And like here's the two bathrooms we used. Yeah, and
like there's twenty of us, twenty five of us at
the beginning, like how wild would you is that? And
this is the shower doesn't have warm water, and.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
You turn it on to the kirk of being at Nemoclin.
Nemo Colin was beautiful.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Yeah, you guys all had your own rooms, two.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
People per room, double sinks, a shower, a massive bathtub.
It was like the rooms were amazing, Like I was like,
this is luxury and it's finest. And then they were like,
you guys are lucky, like bachelor mansion, two bathrooms for everybody,
and you guys have double sinks for two people.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
But it is like, so what you did miss is
when they're not filming is like okay, three hours still
rose ceremony or three hours so cocktail party, and then
you have like mag chaos in here of dudes trying
to shower, trying to get a nap.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
In with girls.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Girls. It's three hours of like running around this place crazy,
like group showers, like somebody leave the shower running like
it's wild, but it's so fun. When you're like done
with it, you're like that was like that was a
bunch of twenty five to thirty year olds just being
like crazy children. Yea, for as many weeks as we're
here as.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
A camp it's an adult camp.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
But as bachelor. And we pulled up and I said this,
and I really didn't. I had this like weird ability
when I get nervous, I I just want to pee,
and so nervous I do so every day, Like every
day as I was the Bachelor and we were in
the mansion, we would stop in front of the gate
and the I would the producer to be like pause
the gate, and I would go and pee in the
(10:42):
bushes outside the gate before we got back in the
car and pulled back in, because I'd be nervous every
day of my life that I was here, because you
never really feel like you belong to be the Bachelor
and you walk in through these front doors, you take
a right and all the girls are usually sitting there
and you're like, I'm back everyone. Yeah, I don't know
why here, but like so happy that you're still here
(11:02):
this morning. Who what's going to date?
Speaker 1 (11:06):
And also just took a piss, yeah yeah, don't over there.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Actually, one of the prisons has pictures every time I
did so, he was like thirty pictures of me and
the bushes, just like standing there be like looking back
at them. Any stories, but like mostly bachelor's stories, just
really cool memories of like the dudes just being dudes
in this house. Some of the house is blocked off though,
so like the room we're sitting right now, I've never
been in before.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
Okay, oh really.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Yeah, never been here, didn't even know it existed. So
a few questions. Uh, I know these are quick, one
hitter podcast, and so I want to get to some
stuff that I find very interesting. You guys are obviously married,
You're living in New York City. Just in case anybody
to know that, has there been anything that's felt different
since the two of you have gotten married?
Speaker 4 (11:50):
No?
Speaker 2 (11:51):
No, I think this is such a boring.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
As question a lot.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
And I think that if you don't live together before
you're married, then that would be the big difference, because
I know there are people that you know, want to
wait till marriage to live together. We lived together, We
got married at the courthouse, felt the same, felt got
married at a wedding, kind of felt the same. I mean,
there is that like aspect of like I don't know.
(12:16):
I will say, like there is an added layer. I
think after our second wedding that feels like it's there
of like we are in this for like the long haul.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
I want to break up. We gotta get a divorced.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
Yeah, we gotta get divorce.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
It's so much more work, you know, So you're really
committed to this person, and.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
When you get like when you get engaged on TV,
it's kind of like so heightened and so intense that
not that it like lessened being marriage, but I guess.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
In my life felt more elated and on like this
crazy emotional high than the twenty four hours after our engagement.
I can never I will never supplicate that feeling ever,
It's just not possible.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
It was so insane.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
It was a crazy thing I've ever done my whole life,
was getting engaged after nineteen days like.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
Nothing, and we were so in love. We still are.
We're more in love I would say now than we
were them.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
But like if we're going backwards, but you know what
I mean, like.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
It was the crazy I mean, you got engaged on.
Speaker 5 (13:11):
TV, Like I don't have that experienced going backwards.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Will say, like getting married at the courthouse was also
a really crazy feeling because that was also quite spontaneous.
The wedding, there was so much build up to best
day of my life, but so much build up that like,
there it doesn't feel like there's like a shift in
our lives as much because there was so much preparation
going into it, if that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Well, my wife and I were talking today because it's
like it's really weird to be going back to the mansion.
We were like out to lunch and super chill, and
I was like, the last time I was going to
the mansion, I was like panicking, Like I was like
pacing my room, be like what am I doing? This
is crazy? I don't belong here. I was like, it's
so weird to be going back to this place that
like the last time I was there is like not PTSD.
(14:13):
That sounds very traumatic, but just like I have really
like traumatic memories from the ones that still like haunt
me a little bit. And she was asking me all
these questions and I was telling her, I was like,
you know, I'm almost envious that I couldn't have made
a relationship work from this show because of that high
and because of the wildness and the weirdness of this
whole thing, but the fact that it brings really great
(14:34):
people together and we've seen great you get to share
it with somebody. You get to share it with somebody,
Like I still like That's the one thing I regret
is that my wife now was not on the season
of The Bachelor that I was, you know, but I
don't have those I have the elated like this was
crazy what did we do? But it like kind of
didn't get like exciting. It kind of went like, oh
(14:55):
what did we do? You know? But it is like
this isn't amazing like show when it works and you
guys have worked and so you got married, things don't
feel that much different, but you are still like progressing
in your relationship. Now flashback kind of change again. You
had Wells officiate your your wedding. I remember, Wells and
(15:18):
I hang out in golf all the time. He was
telling me, I.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
Saw some good videos of you guys from Dean and
Kalin's wedding.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Oh yeah, Wells and I have a good time together.
But he was so I mean, Wells is great. I
love him so much, but he he was really serious
about officiating your wedding. He took also them maybe two
weeks before, and he had already started taking notes and
I officiated some weddings for my cousins and stuff, and
he was asking me all these questions and he had
(15:44):
all these things in his head. So two questions there,
why did you choose him? And then like are you
happy you chose Wells? Yeah, so we.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
I was just like, I don't know, it just came
to me. I'm like, you know, what would be amazing.
And this was like a year prior to our wedding.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
This is probably like right before right after we got
married at the courthouse, because we were already planning our
wedding when we got married at the.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Court Yeah, I would say this is kind of when
we started. Yes, because he at when we got married
at the courthouse. He said, I never have been fired
so quickly.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
So I must days before, yes, And we didn't tell
him we were getting married at the court house.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
He's like, I'm so confused.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
And I consider Walls a good friend. And he's also
like been a part like my show wasn't the Bachelor
Bachelor at my show was Bachelor in Paradise, and he
was He has been there and been there for me
the entire time.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
Yeah, like if we were in Paradise and I wasn't
with Joe like he was at the bar.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
So he was just such a like a big part
of my journey and then ours, and I honestly I
didn't even think he would say yes. I was like,
he's probably like this is gonna be a pain in
the ass. And I just texted him. I was just like, hey,
wells you want to officiate what He's like, what, like
are you serious? And honestly, like I I don't think
he could have done a better job. And I couldn't
(17:05):
be happier like he was. He was great and like
everyone at our wedding was like this was so much
fun and he yeah, he crushed it, like literally crushed it.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
Yeah. No, I like literally got emotional when he said yes.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
Because it was just the charge from now.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
No, he's so talented and he's so amazing, and like
he we are very relaxed people, like we were like, yeah,
whatever you want to say, like say it like we
don't care, like we are already married.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
We just want this to be fun and romantic.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
And he really was like no, like he didn't roll
off that like nonchalant like attitude that we have. He
was like, yeah, sure, whatever, like you don't care.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
He was like, he took it so seriously.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
And I got him. I got him too with Joe.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
He loved that Jack game because I said.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
In the beginning of my vows, I basically I was like,
I remember walking down on the beach and seeing your
Oh shit, the beginning of my vowels, I go, you know,
I remember walking down on the beach, you know, and
seeing your your your beautiful smile, you're curly here.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Then, and I have seen.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
This and I said, and I said, Wells, I'm so.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Happy you're here. Really, it didn't.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
It didn't register at first, and that you see him
in the video like, oh that was good.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
It was.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
We said, like we've said it.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
A million times, like asking Wells to marry us was
one of the best decisions we made and we were
so lucky and people.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
He said yes, like it was awesome for sure.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
We had him on the podcast and he was talking
about just the dynamics of your two families. Oh yeah.
He was explaining every character within your families.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
And I and Sarah are such social butterflies.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
They like made their way around the room. They got
to know so many people.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
It was great to do a thousand weddings in the
last two years.
Speaker 4 (18:59):
They are wedding row.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
They're really good at it.
Speaker 4 (19:01):
They are really good at wedding.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
He got my parents.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
He's like, yeah, like, this is exactly what I thought question.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Yeah, it's Big Joe, right, yeah, Big Joe. And then
he was telling me that your family is so beautiful.
He was like literally like this was when we're in
Orlando for a golf termam, and he's like, her family
is so like beautiful. Then you have Big Joe and
all this and he was going through the list. It
sounded awesome. Yeah, So what was the efficient two final
(19:29):
questions for you? Kind of what's next? I mean, obviously
you have the podcast going on again when you're living
in New York City. Kind of what's coming up in
your life that you're excited about or you know, if
I answered that question right now, I'd say I'm just
really content and it's really awesome being content.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
Yeah. I think we're just we're chilling. I mean, we
got the podcast better Happy Hour. I'm gonna be on
a new show coming out the Goat.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Yeah, that's right, chat about that a little bit. Yeah,
that's well.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
I mean I can't say much.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
I just know it's get our podcast and because what
can you say that.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
I was on a show called to Call and it's
going to be coming out next year at some time,
and watch it because I think it's gonna be very entertaining.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Joe and I's lives are very intertwined because we live
together in a very small apartment and we both work
from that apartment. So having him gone filming a show
without me, because last year we did was together was
very bizarre, and I missed him a lot. Actually I
was very sweet home. But I think that's good to
miss each other a little bit. Sometimes, Yeah you don't.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
It's a problem, that's true. But travel spree Right now,
I've been home so excited to get home, so.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
Tired getting home is.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
And my wife is like so excited for me to
