MESKLA | Brewyon Drudh
The MESKLA | Brewyon Drudh (Mussel Gathering | Precious Fragments) podcast began as part of a 4 year practice-as-research multi-platform artwork of the same name. This artwork used sculpture and conversation to explore contemporary Cornish cultural identity and its relationship with heritage, land, and extraction industries - including tourism and mining. The MESKLA podcast series now continues to consider the above along with issues of authenticity, fractured culture, colonialism, the links between indigenous language, intangible and living cultural heritage and identity, and where and how art takes part in this conversation, or makes space for it. The series uses Kernow (Cornwall) as a key site and reference point for its content. These podcasts record conversations between me, Sovay Berriman, and guests whose research or lived experienced touches on the project themes. The views, thoughts, and opinions expressed are the speaker’s own. All conversations are carried out with a spirit of generosity and openness, creating space for the discussions to twist and turn.
