The Sixers win in DC one twenty two, one to
oh three. They snap a twelve game losing streak behind
a career high thirty points for Upper Marlborough, Maryland native
Jeff Dalton Junior. Welcome in to the Sixers postgame show

(02:19):
presented by Parks Casino. After the win, Matt Murphy, I'll
be rejoined by Tom McGuinness. We'll hear from Sixers coach
Nick Nurse. But Dalbton scored thirty in twenty nine minutes
off the bench for Sixers. Starters were in double figures.
Lonnie Walker, the fourth led all starters in scoring with
twenty four, which is what Tristan Vukcevic had for Washington,

(02:44):
which is a new NBA career high for him to
lead them scoring. Two games left now for the Sixers
after this victory, both will be at home. So it
was the road finale and they win the season series
against Washington, which was only three games two to one.
Let's connect with Tom McGuinness as we await Nick Nurse

(03:05):
and Tom, we've got to start with Jeff Dalton Junior.
After that type of homecoming, what was that elevator pitch
again that you gave to him today?

Speaker 1 (03:16):
I did I rud the elevator with him and Colby Jones.
I might have, but anyway, so no, with Jeff, I
just said, this has got to be great. And I
actually said, it's sort of like that little league game
where your parents are in the crowd and you got
you gotta play with My parents are here, and I
didn't mean to diminish it, but he laughed, he goes, yeah, exactly,
and then I said, you've been great, and he has
been right, like he's had his best career season. And

(03:38):
you know, like I said, when he goes and we've
talked about, when he goes to the coach, he racks
up twenty five thirty some points and so impactful and
tonight you can just tell that he was It didn't
matter how they guarded him or who was guarding them,
and especially as you say, in that third quarter where
he had eleven points in a spin up but a
minute twenty three and it was great to see the
bench of six Ers players, just as I said, exploding

(04:01):
with jubilation for him, because you know, you got to
celebrate for your teammates. And he was really on a
roll right there. He was, as they say on a heater.
He played exceedingly well and it's great to see it
at thirty points. And you know, again four years at Choja,
it's just it's not a you know, you can't take

(04:21):
for granted that you're going to play in your hometown
all the day. It's only his second ever game and
so to do it at this stage of his career
had to feel special for him.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
And he's been in the league for a few years,
as noted, but this is the longest he's played with
one team. So it was small sample sizes with Golden
State Milwaukee, Orlando, Toronto, and this is the longest place
that he's called home.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
There was man, wait, hold on, here's coach, let's do it.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
And they said, the guys are doing a lot of
good things and and I think, really preparing well and
all that kind of stuff, and and nice for them
to to get some results tonight. And play played pretty good.
A lot of good a lot of good individual performances
and and a lot of kind of chip in role performances,
I thought too, which was good.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Yeah, yep, really cool. Uh.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
We were thinking about starting him tonight because he was
coming back home. But uh, kind of been in a
groove with those other guys a little bit, but he
certainly got in, got in a flurry there for a
few minutes, and uh, it was certainly really really good
to see, and he kept making them and they kept
running some more guys at him, and he still kept
making them. So a big, big night for him. Glad

(05:34):
to see, glad to see, good for him, good for him.
Guys gave him the game ball after the game. Pretty cool,
Quenton Sho.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
I think he started tad yep, but he still found.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
A way to contribute, rebounding one play I got going
with the scoring.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
Yeah, I again, I love the eleven rebounds. You know again,
you guys hear me harping on that all the time
that our guards. I want to see which one of
those guys can get in and help us on the glass,
and he's certainly doing that. Six assists, you know, got
off to a really really poor start there, I think,
would you say, well for ten? Yeah, But again, I
think I think he gets sometimes like that. He usually

(06:10):
he usually will get his work his way out of those,
even from a scoring standpoint, and he kind of did tonight.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Too.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
He also got to the Linny Times tonight. Is that
the type of results you want to see when he's
consistently attacking the.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Pass and more.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
Yeah, I think again. I mentioned that before the game.
It's one of my favorite things he does is is
attack the basket and uh uh they you know, they're
really pressing up on him. He's been a hot player
lately and got to make the right play again. I
just like the physicality in which he's doing it. So
he's putting his body on people and getting some dividends.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
From its beating offs.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
And some when he comes down the injury.

Speaker 5 (06:46):
You know, ay, you were playing well for you guy, he.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
Is ach yep Achilles. Yeah didn't didn't. Yeah, it didn't
look too good either, Like it really really looked like it.
You know, you had to come out immediately in the game,
and uh hope hopefully it'll it won't be back because
we've only got a couple left, you know, and he
need he needs to get out there and play if
he can. All right, everybody, thank.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
You, all right, that's coach Nick Nurse. You're talking about
the well, the last part there was about Alex Reese
who left with an achilles ten in strain, so that's
not good. But the rebounding that was one of our keys.
The boy the Sixers delivered in a big way. Fifty
five rebounds in the game, more than it's nine, more
than Washington, and Castleton had fourteen off the bench that

(07:34):
certainly deserves mentioned. And Grimes with eleven as was touched
on but eight by Bagley, Bone had nine and overall
a really good effort on the glass by the Sixers
and Matt will we'll send it back to you.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Matt Murphy and Tommy Guinness here on the seventy six
Ers post game show, which is presented by Parks Casino.
After the Sixers snap a long losing streak with a
one twenty two to one oh three road win in Washington.
So this game against the Wizards their final road game
of the season. Two games left, both will be at home.
Those fourteen rebounds for Castleton tie a career high, which

(08:08):
was against the Sixers last month. He had two points
with the fourteen rebounds. The leading scorer was Jeff Dalton
Junior with thirty points off the bench, only missed four shots,
made four out of his seven threes, added four free throws.
I remember over the summer. There was a clip of
Danny Hurley, who before Yukon coach Jeff at Rhode Island
saying he was the only player he can remember who

(08:30):
texted him after quote doing a bad job when Dalton
played at Rhode Island. So he texted his coach. That's
the type of mature person and player that Jeff Dalton is.
A career high scoring game for him tonight and Tom
before we talk about the end of the season and
Atlanta on Friday night, what else other than doubt in

(08:52):
and the rebounding stood out to you from this game?

Speaker 1 (08:55):
Well, again, like I thought, it was like the Sixers.
I know it sounds tried or whatever. You know, they
lost twelve in a row, but this group has stayed
together and you know, this is like a big opportunity
for the likes of a Den Bona and and Jared
Butler and Ricky and Castleton and Jill, you know what
I mean. And like even Lonnie Walker. You know he's

(09:17):
he's been in the NBA, but he's back and you
could just tell the you know kind of like you
just said, amen when I said it must feel good
beat to be back in the NBA. So you know,
granted it is what it is where the Sixers are
in the season and and like that, but for these
guys it means something right and uh so, and then
like the age old deal, but like winning helps and

(09:37):
you know, serves as kind of a tonic as you
finish out with two more home games to be able
to get back in the win column and get off
the road with a w. And just lastly, because like
you know, I think one of the thoughts for the
Sixers as an organization, and you know, if you can
get the guys healthy. With Joelle, he's apparently having surgery.

(09:59):
I believe it's this week, and if it's successful, and
the way that it was pronounced it that he's expected
to come back and be and recover fully from that surgery,
and Lord willing that's the case, and you get Tyree's
back his apparently his finger's not going to need surgery,
and for Paul George to get back and get health,

(10:19):
like I think what Nick Nurse has talked about, and
I would I would imagine it's you know, the front
office view as well, and that is that they can
get back into the picture quickly with health and then
let's give it a go in terms of you know,
everybody going to go over kind of like the Big
Three take two and all like that. And then you
got Jared and a lot of these other players that

(10:41):
have really contributed and see how they can you know,
help to form the role players, if you will. And
the reason I think about that is because, hey, that's
where we are. And then b I was just looking
like Washington Chris Middleton standing over there, you know what
I mean, Like and he's coming off ankles when you know,
didn't really have a healthy season with Milwaukee and they

(11:01):
got brogged in and who's to say, but like and
they got the developing Alex Ared, they're going to get
another really high pick. Like that's how organizations, you know,
like hope to flip things around and take a season
that it's been difficult for both these teams, but you know,
obviously more concerning for the Sixers, you know, but like
to turn things around and get right back into the

(11:23):
mix because this is the time of the season that
fans and everybody wants to be looking at what well
it's going to be exciting the playoffs that that's the
biggest joy in pro competition. And you know, as you
get through these, you know, the whole the long grind
of a of a regular season to look forward to
the playoffs is an absolute treat, and that's what you

(11:45):
hope is in the offing next spring for the Sixers.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Middleton, in fact, was already talking play in tournament potential
for this Wizards group next season. Obviously the Sixers have
higher aspirations than that. You also mentioned a dem Bona.
I thought his first half in particular, was a big
first quarter, was a big part of this game. He
ends up with seventeen points, nine rebounds, and two blocks.
We've talked a lot about him over recent weeks as

(12:13):
he makes the most of all of this playing time,
which will continue Friday night against Atlanta. The Hawks are
thirty seven and forty two. They're at Brooklyn tomorrow so Thursday,
so it'll be a back to back situation. And we've
seen it go. Yeah, we've seen a lot of them
recently because the Atlanta meetings, the three of them didn't
start until late in the season. Trey Young was back
the last time, and I guess offense with them, they

(12:35):
scored one hundred and thirty two points in both of
the victories. What are you expecting.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Yeah, no, for sure, and that one weekend, you know whatever,
that was a couple of weekends ago. I watched them
two nights in a row. That obviously the Sixers game,
and then I went to their Warriors game. And you're right,
you know, like they got Okongwu's really developed and so
is Resa Schay and Trey has been really good for them.
So yeah, they're no doubt about it, like they're they're

(13:03):
they have a high octane offense, to be sure, and
you know they're in the midst of trying to sort
out where it's going to be in the postseason.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
They're what like seventh, Yes, so they are eighth by
a game on Chicago and Miami. Yeah, so those two
they would play Orlando and.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
Again Washington plays both those teams, not that they're gonna
you know, the upset special or whatever, but yeah, and
then obviously the Sixers in the Bowls. So those those
games down the stretch for those two teams matter. And
then there's the whole thing about you want to win
going in the playoffs so you can you know, have
the momentum and have your your group on track and
playing well. So for those teams like Atlanta, like Chicago,

(13:46):
like Miami. They want to close out on a winning note,
both for the potential of maybe getting the home court
and the play in like those types of things. But
we shall see. For the Sixers, though, nice to get
a win after a dozen losses in a row, and
a good thing, you know, to close out a chapter.
In terms of the road schedule, wasn't the way you
wanted to go at all on the road, because again,

(14:07):
if you're really going to be a competitive team, you
want to win twenty twenty one, twenty two where you
want to win at least half your road games in
a mixet where you're up near you know, twenty eight
or so home victories too. So we shall see, not
this year, but again hopefully down the road.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
Tom, thanks so much the Hawks and the Sixers. Friday
in Philly, thank you all right, nightmare, and tonight in
DC it was a final score of one twenty two,
one o three the Sixers with the victory by nineteen
against the Washington Wizards. Not only is that Lakers Mavericks game,
Luca's return to Dallas as a member of the Lakers
after the shocking Trader earlier this year, it's also Lebron

(14:45):
James is one thousand, five hundred and sixty first regular
season game, which passes Kareem Abdul Jabbar for the second
most in NBA history. Robert Parrish is the leader one thousand,
six hundred and eleven and then, as mentioned earlier at
halftime ten EASTERNTO closing in on the start of that

(15:07):
Denver game in Sacramento, which will be the Nuggets first
game without head coach Michael Malone, who was fired. While
the team is forty seven and thirty two, one of
four Western Conference teams with that record, the Clippers, the Nuggets,
the Warriors, the Grizzlies. It's been forty six years since
that has happened this late in the season. With through

(15:29):
seventy nine games forty seven thirty two teams, four of
them in the West, but in the East, the Sixers
are the one to twenty two one to ZHO three
victory over the Wizards, led by Jeff Dalton Junior's thirty
points seventeen for den Bona seventeen for Quinton Grimes with
eleven rebound and six assists twenty four was the second

(15:52):
leading scorer. Lonnie Walker the fourth for the Sixers and
Tristan Vukcevich for Washington. But we've got our stat of
the game. We'll go through this game from start to finish,
and here's some of those highlight calls from Tom McGuinness
on Jeff Dalton Junior's big plays, particularly in a awesome
stretch during the third quarter. We'll do that after a

(16:12):
quick break when we continue on after a one twenty
two one oh three Sixers win on the road in
the road finale over the Wizards, when we continue with
our post game show, which is presented by Parks Casino.
The Parks Casino postgame Show continues on after a Sixers
win one twenty two one oh three to snap what

(16:33):
was a twelve game losing streak. They've got two games
left on the schedule. Both will be at home. They'll
play Friday night against the Atlanta Hawks, and then the
season finale will be Sunday afternoon at one pm Eastern
when they welcome in the Chicago Bulls. There was a

(16:54):
Tyrese Maxi injury update before this game tonight against the
Wizards that confirmed he'll be out for the rest of
this season, which is only a couple of games with
the finger Sprain and the Sixers have taken the season
series against Washington. It was one to one coming in.
Both games were played in Philly, so the Sixers lone

(17:16):
visit comes to DC comes late in the season in
the third to last game, and they win the season
series two to one. The game high scorer was Jeff
Dalton Junior, a career high thirty points. Philadelphia ten day
contract player Colin Castleton led all rebounders with a career

(17:38):
high tying fourteen boards. Quinton Grimes tied Washington's Bubb Carrington
for the most assists with six to go with seventeen points.
Castleton had one basket with his rebounding total of fourteen,
but for Grimes it was seventeen points eleven rebounds, close
to the game high. Third leading rebounder in the game,

(18:01):
Justin Champenny had twelve boards for the home Wizards with
fourteen points, so a double double there. Double double for
Grimes with seventeen and eleven plus what actually became seven assists,
so they either gave him one more. He's no longer
tied with Bub Carrington and Dalton, not just thirty points.
He tied Jalen Martin of the Wizards, who was his

(18:24):
teammate this year for the Delaware blue Coats in the
Gleague with four steals. Jalen Martin was the first NBA
call up of the season for the blue Coats coaching
staff when the Wizards offered him a two way contract.
He scored eight points with four steals in thirty minutes
off Washington's bench, while Dalton had four steals three assists

(18:45):
with his game high thirty points on eleven of fifteen
shooting in twenty nine minutes, four for seven from three
and four for six at the line. Our stat of
the game is the eleven points that Jeff Dalton Junior
scored in the third quarter in quick succession succession one
twenty three of game time a minute in twenty three

(19:06):
seconds on his career night. And another honorable mention would
be the career high tying rebounds for Castleton. I already
spoiled this one, but for anyone who missed it, fourteen
ties his NBA career high, and his first fourteen rebound
game in the NBA was less than a month ago,
March twelfth, against the Sixers as a member of the

(19:30):
Toronto Raptors. I'm Matt Murphy. This is the Parks Casino
postgame show for the seventy six Ers, and let's jump
right into how this game sounded, as called by Tom McGinnis.
The Sixers and the Wizards in Washington, DC. Sixers in
their red Statement Edition uniforms on what was a City
Edition night for the Wizards at home in their hydrogen

(19:54):
blue City Edition uniforms. Eleven Sixers out, including Abusele and
Justin Edwards. Eight Wizards out, including leading scorer Jordan Poole
and his twenty point five points per game on what
was the second night of a road home back to
back for the Wizards, who narrowly fell in Indiana a

(20:14):
night ago. The Sixers started the same lineup from Monday
in Miami, Jared Butler, Quinton Grimes, Lonnie Walker the fourth,
Marcus Bagley again, and Adem Bona. With the season series
between Philadelphia and Washington tied coming in one to one,
the final road game of the season for the Sixers
on a twelve game losing streak, Washington had lost eleven
of thirteen, but had beaten the Sixers two weeks ago. Tonight,

(20:36):
it was a touchdown start for the Sixers in a
seven to zero game. That was a battle of rookie
big man Alex Sar the second overall pick and adem Bona,
a Sixers second round rookie draft pick. And he's been
connecting well on the allute plays with former Wizard Jared Butler,
and that was the case in the late stages of

(20:57):
the first quarter. Butler to a dem Bona, flying.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
High sixers in red going left to right. Here is
allied to a dem and that worked like a charm.
Well done. Jared Butler with his second assist, A den
Bona with another slam dunk. He's got four field goals
and I believe they're all dunks. He's four for four.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
These Sixers were up twenty five to twenty three after one.
That was in a twenty two to nineteen game. Adem
had nine points in the of the Sixers twenty five
in the first. Lonnie Walker, the fourth, had eight of those.
They were up by two. Jared Butler finished the game
as the starting point guard with the stat line of
thirteen points, six rebounds, four assists, and one steal. A

(21:39):
dem Bona finished the game with seventeen points, nine rebounds,
and two blocks in thirty two minutes as the starting center.
We'll hear more from Lonnie Walker in just a second.
A damn over the last month two and a half
blocks per game, first in the entire NBA. He gets
two Tonight, Sixers up two into the second quarter, where

(22:00):
Jeff Doughton Junior came on to score eleven first half points.
He's from the DMV. He's from Upper Marlborough, Maryland, and
back in the lineup for the first time since March
twenty six, which coincidentally or maybe not, was also against
his hometown team growing up, the Wizards. And a steal
and a score.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
Cheff Petty with it, he hooks Badley and they have
the ball. Five minutes to go. Man, the Sixers had
some good looks there can they steal it? Dowton Junior
with it down the line, left hand light it good key,
Shawn George threw it away and Dowton Junior. I visited
with Jeff this afternoon. I said, you can played great.
You're gonna have a great and he is. He's got

(22:39):
eleven points to lead the Sixers off the bench.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
Double figures in ten straight games, ten straight appearances of
his coming into this one, make it eleven. His averages
in those ten games were twenty three point six minutes
per game, fourteen point six points per game on forty
nine percent from three. Sixers were up forty five thirty seven,
and then at the half they were up fifty three fifty.

(23:04):
But we will hear more from Jeff Dalton Junior's plays tonight.
More of his plays on what turned into a career night.
Both teams in the first half were only around thirty
seven percent shooting from the field, and it was the
Sixers fifty three the Wizard's fifty after the Wizards closed
on a six nothing scoring run in the second quarter.

(23:28):
Third quarter, here's Lonnie Walker, the fourth after a season
high twenty nine points on Monday, Well, he came close
to that number tonight.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
Crimes to Walker following exit on the right side, Walker
backs up to the hash Park left hand drubble. He
goes to Grimes. Grimes turns the corner tumbledingk goes to
Castle back to Lonnie pretty air. Lonnie Wooker the fourth
is third three Castleton with the dish and the Sixers
by a half a dozen seventy three sixty seven.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Lonnie made seven of his seventeen field goals overall field
goal attempts and seven of his eight free throws for
twenty four points in twenty nine minutes. The Sixers out
scored the Wizard's thirty six twenty nine in the third
for an eighty nine seventy nine lead after three. But
how did who spurred that type of late run to

(24:24):
push ahead by ten? Well, it was Jeff Dalton Junior
and it was a takeover. This is the the closing
sequence of the Dubton takeover.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Just listen, end of the day, Kobe Jones, but no
Castleton nine rebounds. Here comes Jeff Dout Junior way beyond
the arc. Three ball.

Speaker 5 (24:42):
God, what a stint, and the Sixers bench exploded. Test
Jeff Dout Junior celebrate with his page. Maybe PA's back
in the DFV and he's part of it. Six Ers
by ten.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
Eighty six seventy six became eighty nine seventy nine after
three eleven third quarter points for Dowbton in one minute
and twenty three seconds of game time, three threes as
part of it. Teammate Quinton Grimes was excited for him
tonight and also scored thirteen of his own in that

(25:20):
third quarter, and they took that ten point lead. Into
the fourth, but Jeff Dalton Junior wasn't done yet. He
had twenty two through three, and his NBA career high
coming in was twenty four points with an eighty nine
to seventy nine lead. Early stage's fourth quarter, A few
possessions had passed, a few minutes had passed, and the

(25:42):
leading scorer for Washington tonight was Tristan Vucevic, and it
was like Doubton, a career night for him, this one
beyond the arc.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
Free throws by the Sixers Walker made him both long.
Paul Pukovich is up a good man. He's gonna be
a player. Tristan Vukovich seventeen in the game. The Wish
got another good young player.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
He later tied his career high and then went past
it at the free throw line. It was nineteen coming
in last April against Chicago. Vukcevich ends up with a
wizard's best twenty four points on seven of thirteen, shooting
three for four from three, seven for nine from the line,
added six rebounds to his twenty four points in twenty
four minutes that cut the Sixers lead to eight ninety

(26:30):
five eighty seven, But back to Jeff Dalton Junior. I
mentioned the career high of twenty four that was March
fourteenth in Philly against the Pacers. Late shot clock situations
are no problem for Doubting, as we've come to know
over the years between the Blue Coats and the Sixers,
and that was the case with him going for that

(26:50):
new career high.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
Doub The junior goes back to get it, pass it
off the dribble to the right perimeter, driving down two
members of the wiz hangs fires. Oh man, it's good.
He got a new season high twenty six points. What
a shot over two members of the Washington Wizards. Seven
minutes to go.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
He ends up with thirty. The score then was one
oh three eighty nine. He went to Saint John's College
High School in DC before the University of Rhode Island.
A memorable night for Doubton in a one twenty two
to one oh three Sixers win. They outscored the Wizards
thirty three twenty four in the fourth and they snapped

(27:31):
the losing streak which had reached twelve games. Their record
is twenty four and fifty six. The Wizards are seventeen
and sixty three. Had wins in the last stretch of
games over Philadelphia and Sacramento. Now the Sixers will come
home to finish out the season. The team totals tonight,

(27:56):
the Sixers forty three percent shooting from the field thirty
two from three. They took fifty sixteen of fifty. Dalton
was four for seven, three players made three, Jared Butler
was three for nine, Quentin Grimes was three for ten,
and Lonnie Walker the fourth was three for eleven, and
they shot seventy four percent at the line. They missed
ten free throws twenty eight of thirty eight. Washington was

(28:20):
thirty nine percent from the field, thirty percent from three
and eighty three percent at the line. They went twenty
five of thirty. They had a bunch of other players
in double figures other than Vucevic. Five players had ten
plus for the Sixers. It was Dalton's thirty, Walker's twenty four,

(28:41):
Bona and Grimes with seventeen apiece and Jared Butler thirteen.
Ricky Council the fourth eleven four for Alex Reez, who
left the game to injury. Marcus Bagley had four with
