We've got a loaded show today. We've got a lot

(00:29):
of juicy topics and as the off season speculation begins. Basically,
we're at that point of the season where if a
player becomes available, every discussion revolves around should the Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Vikings target that player?

Speaker 2 (00:49):
And the beautiful thing about this podcast is that when
there's a player available, we will actually analyze and discuss
if the Minnesota Vikings should target them. For example, Miles
Garrett just became available from the Cleveland Browns. He requested
a trade. Should the Minnesota Vikings target Miles Garrett? That

(01:12):
answer will come straight from this podcast, and there's not
gonna be any wishy washy or you know, maybe they should.
I'm gonna tell you whether or not they should, and
I'm gonna have the courage of my convictions to answer
that question. Another player, Cooper Cup, just became available. Should

(01:34):
the Minnesota Vikings target Cooper cup Well. On this podcast,
I am going to tell you if the Minnesota Vikings
should target these guys.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
So let's start with Miles Garrett.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Miles Garrett has been one of the best defensive players
the NFL has seen in recent years. The problem with
targeting Miles Garrett is this. The dude is twenty nine
years old and he turns thirty at the end of

(02:08):
the year LA next season December twenty ninth, So you're
not getting a guy mid prime that's got years left
of his NFL career. For example, his final year with Cleveland,
he had forty seven combo tackles forty solo tackles. But

(02:29):
that's not why you bring in a Miles Garrett. You
bring in men because of his ability to sack the quarterback.
And that's something that he's been able to do for years.
Fourteen sacks in twenty twenty four, fourteen sacks in twenty
twenty three, sixteen sacks in twenty twenty one, sixteen sacks

(02:50):
in twenty twenty, twelve sacks in twenty twenty Huh, what
did I just say there?

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Hold on.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
So fourteen and twenty four, fourteen and twenty three, sixteen
and twenty two, sixteen and twenty one, and.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Twelve and twenty So.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
This guy has consistently been able to sack the quarterback
at an ultra high level in the NFL. The problem
with trading for Miles Garrett is this one, how much
do you have to trade to get him? And number two,
how many of these fourteen fifteen sixteen sacks seasons does

(03:42):
Miles Garrett have left in him as he enters thirty
years old next season. You now, if you're at Buffalo Bills,
if you're at Kansas City Chiefs and you're just trying
to squeeze out the rest of your super Bowl window
that you have, well then you trade for Miles Garrett.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
If you're just entering your super Bowl window.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Like the Minnesota Vikings hope to in the next year
or two, well then you don't trade for him.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Plus I guarantee you this, the Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Browns are going to explore trading Miles Garrett to the
Minnesota Vikings because of this, JJ McCarthy. McCarthy would have
been the number one overall pick in this upcoming NFL draft,
and with McCarthy comes a very inexpensive rookie contract that

(04:36):
the Cleveland Browns could try and manage to afford with
that Dashaun Watson contract looming over their heads, and it
sounds like if the Deshaun Watson injury continues, it sounds
like there's certain contract language in his situation where they

(04:57):
would not have to pay him as much as as
they would have if he was healthy. So Miles Garrett
requests the trade, and they are going to pursue J. J.
McCarthy because of his contract, because of his upside, and
because they don't have a quarterback on the roster that

(05:17):
can play.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
They don't want to go through the carousel.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Of Jamis Winston and the guy with two last names
or Deshaun Watson anymore. They want a competent rookie quarterback
that could step in and deliver.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
And who better then a guy like J. J.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
McCarthy, because the guy's got clear leadership qualities. And you
think about McCarthy, he's the exact opposite of Deshaun Watson.
He's bizarre with Deshaun Watson. So if I'm a Cleveland
Browns individual or worker or employee within that organization, I

(06:00):
am targeting JJ McCarthy number one number two at number three,
I'm offering Miles Garrett and a number one overall pick
to try to pry Jajen McCarthy away from.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
The Minnesota Vikings.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Now the question is will the Minnesota Vikings take that bait,
because there's a lot that would have to be offered
to get McCarthy. It's not just gonna be Miles Garrett.
He's twenty nine years old going on thirty next season.
And how many years does a defensive player really dominate
the league? I mean prime? What's the prime for NFL

(06:36):
defensive guys? What's the prime for a Miles Garrett? Like
when is that drop off going to happen? Think about
one of the all time Minnesota Vikings great defensive players.
You think about Jared Allen. Okay, the dude had when

(06:56):
he was twenty nine years old, like Miles Garrett is
right now. He had twenty two sacks his best season
in the NFL. Phenomenal, right, I Mean, that's what you
want from a guy at the end of his prime.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Twenty two sacks.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Jared Allen had the next season in twenty twelve, still
a spectacular season, hit twelve sacks for the Vikings. His
next season twenty thirteen, thirty one years.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Old, he had eleven and a half sacks, So still.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Very solid, very good numbers from Allen at thirty one
years old, But then at thirty two there is a
clear drop off of performance from Jared. Allen went from
twenty two sacks to twelve sacks to eleven and a half,
went to Chicago with twenty.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
Fourteen and puts up five and a half sacks.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
You could probably expect the same thing from Miles Garrett. Garrett,
if the Minnesota Vikings decided to trade for him, he
would put up good numbers next season for the Minnesota Vikings.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
And you'd probably put up good numbers of the following season.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
But when is that jump off the cliff moment for
Miles Garrett. He's a competitive, athletic, crazy man playing the
defensive position. The dude is athletic specimen and he's huge,
and you know the Minnesota Vikings added him and decided

(08:28):
to re sign Sam Donald. Well, the Minnesota Vikings would
probably be a very good football team next year. But
the problem with that is this, the Vikings already have
Grenard and Van Ginkel, and by trading away McCarthy, you
are forfeiting a bunch of salary cap space to bring

(08:51):
in Donald.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
And Miles Garrett. It's not gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
The Minnesota Vikings are never and would never pull off
this and all the speculation that comes with the Miles
Garrett to the Minnesota Vikings. Don't believe it, don't trust it,
don't see it. It's all because it's talking heads discussing
and debating the topic. But it's not real management breaking

(09:18):
it down and talking about it. That's the difference of
this podcast. Okay, this podcast offers you both. I tell
you what's going to happen. From the Minnesota Vikings organizational perspective,
they are not trading for Miles Garrett, but there are
going to be topics until Miles Garrett is traded on
whether or not the Vikings should do it. And from

(09:42):
that standpoint, I'm also going to tell you what the
truth is. The Vikings should not pull off this trade.
It would be like the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas
Mavericks trading Anthony Davis, a thirty one year old guy
at the end of his prime, for a twenty five
year old superstar.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
That would be as stupid as this trade.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Oh, actually it happened. I still can't believe that happened.
Luka Doncic, twenty five years old, traded for Anthony Davis,
a thirty one year old guy that's always injured at
the end of his prime. The Lakers fleeced the Dallas Mavericks.
And if the Minnesota Vikings traded McCarthy to the Cleveland

(10:25):
Browns four miles Garrett, the Browns would have fleeced the
Minnesota Vikings. So do not expect this trade to even
be discussed. But expect the Cleveland Browns to pursue McCarthy.
And guess what, there's going to be a report this
offseason because this is how it works, and it worked

(10:47):
the same way with O'Connell, it worked the same way
with Jefferson. Expect an insider, a Jay Glazer, a Palasaro
at Rappaport. Expect one of those guys two break down
a story to share a report that the Cleveland Browns
are interested in pursuing JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
But here's the problem with that report.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
They're not reporting from the Minnesota Vikings perspective. And that's
the most annoying part of these reports. These reports blow
up and they go crazy and O'Connell. He might be traded. Jefferson,
they might be traded. But the problem with these reports
is that they're one sided. They're not coming from the
Minnesota Vikings perspective. They're coming from other team's perspective that
want to snake players or coaches on the Minnesota Vikings roster.

(11:39):
So don't buy it, don't believe it, and don't fall
for the trap.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
Don't do it. Be smarter than that.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
The Vikings are not going to pursue Miles Garrett even
when the report comes out that the Cleveland Browns are
interested in trading for JJ McCarthy. Understand the story. Understand
where the story is being leaked from, and it's being

(12:08):
leaked from the Cleveland Browns organization.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
That's where the report's coming from.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
It's not coming from the Minnesota Vikings organization. Because it's
gonna happen, it's gonna come out. The NFL is a
twenty four hour news cycle, and the Browns need a
quarterback badly on a low contract. They can't afford a
Darnold for forty to fifty million dollars a year. They

(12:36):
need a rookie contract at that quarterback position. And who
better than a leader like Jaj McCarthy if you're a
Cleveland Brown's employee.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
All Right, I was fair enough today. Who wasn't really
expecting that?

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Honestly, as gonna go down a couple different avenues today
and I was whooah, cut straight through the ball. That's
what this podcast does. Thank you for watching, thank you
