Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is the Black Information Network Daily Podcast, and I'm
your host, ramses Ja. And sometimes the amount of stories
that make their way to us means that we simply
can't cover everything that comes our way. But from time
to time, a story just stays with me and Bill
compelled to share it with you and give you my thoughts.
And now one more thing. Okay, So on this episode

(00:28):
of One More Thing, I feel like we might need to,
at least in part, reintroduce our strained relationship with Kanye West.
I'll go first. I, like most people, I was a

(00:48):
big fan of Kanye when he first came out. I
was on the mixtapes and of course College drop Out.
And then Kanye did a song from my brother's group.
My brother is Iris Science, a raka of the Dilated
People's and they have a song together It's called This Way.

(01:09):
It was a big song when it dropped, you know,
early two thousands, and you know, I was getting spins
on MTV. And then they went on tour together. This
is college dropout Kanye. He was everywhere and then they
have a song with my brothers group. You know, so
it was an exciting time for able of us. I
thought Kanye was that guy. I got to meet him,

(01:32):
got to talk to him. This is before a radio,
before I even had a job, so this is a
while ago, decades, and yeah, that's for a little bit more.
Kanye breaks up with Amber Rose. I think summertime. Around there,

(01:53):
he has that Taylor Swift moment where he snatches the
micro rumer, and then right around that time, he starts
selling these clothes with a Confederate flag on them, and
that felt kind of weird. I really didn't like that.
And his position was, well, I'm trying to take the
Confederate flag and make it something like, make it something

(02:18):
that we can wear, like black folks can wear, okay,
And I just didn't agree with that. It just felt
like controversial, felt like he was baiting people in and
just trying to.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Trigger people for the sake of triggering people.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Don't. I don't love that. I like black unity, you
know what I mean, And we as a people have
hung under that flag, so I don't all that making
it into something, you know what I'm saying, Like, I'm not,
That's not my thing. But anyway, time goes on, and
I'll admit that Kanye West was such a favorite that
it's so it's not unnatural to forget those sorts of things,

(02:52):
like after a time he drops another album, he has
his back and forth with fifty cent. You know, all
this sort of stuff, right, you know, time mantras on
he drops hit after hit, fast forward up until he
wears those White Lives Matter clothes, And that story is
well documented. I'm not going to go into that, but
obviously Q and I have a very, very much a

(03:15):
direct connection to that moment with Kanye West. At no
point have we ever talk bad about Kanye. We do
recognize that he's a black man. But at a point
you kind of have to distance yourself. And that was
the point where we chose, like, hey, look, man, we're
going to do what we can to keep you from

(03:37):
causing harm to black folks. You're surrounded by yes men,
and you can only see the followers that you have.
You're not recognizing the damage that you're doing to the
progress we're trying to make. You're not recognizing that you're
giving license to the people who actually will do harm
to us. They're actually in a position to do harm
to us. You're giving them license. You're giving them a

(03:57):
cover to continue behave in the way that they that
they behave because they can point to a high profile
black man who says he does it, then it's okay
if I do it. I'm not racist. Kanye is black.
But we stepped in did what we could at the time,
and you know, we had to kind of develop a

(04:17):
firm stance in that moment. That's for a little bit more.
Kanye does a bunch more stuff, and you know, we
had given so much to that person and so much
grace for such a long time that I think, at
least I don't let me state another man's brief qube,

(04:38):
but I think we kind of felt kind of all
Kanye out, like kind of exhausted, like, look, this guy's
just doing this stuff just.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
To bother us.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
The more attention we pay to him, the more he
feels like what he's doing is working. There's no there's
no logic here, right. This doesn't this doesn't feel like
Kanye was the person who got on TV and said
George Bush doesn't care about black people, implying that he
did so when they were talking about Kanye West is

(05:05):
selling swastika shirts, Kanye West loves Hitler, Kanye West is
a Nazi. Look, man, we can't he's clearly sick. This
is what I was thinking. He's clearly sick, and we
just don't need to let him get better on his own. Well,

(05:26):
it appears as though he has crossed the line. Not
our line. Our line was crossed the while back. But
you know us in general, let's say black folks hip
hop whatever. I'm gonna share a bit from Hot New
hip Hop and then.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Q obviously you're gonna bring us up to speed.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
But Kanye West targets Jay Z and Beyonce's children and
horrifying rant. Honestly, I'm gonna save a lot of this
because I've kind of already talked about it, but the
rapper claim that J and B's kids were I don't

(06:03):
even want to say this word. I'm not even going
to say it. It's the R word. I guess we're
not using that word. I don't care what anybody else says.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
If they feel if these people feel.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Like that is offensive, then we should respect that. We
should not.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Bulldoze over that.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Feelings matter. And if you don't have a modicum of
empathy for these people who are vulnerable, the most vulnerable,
then you are a monster. I will not say that word,
but Anyway, back to the story, the rapper claimed that
Jane B's kids were the R word, without a shred

(06:49):
of evidence to support this bold assertion. Quote, Waite, has
anyone ever seen jay Z and Beyonce's younger kids? They're
the R word? This is on a tweet? Okay, goes
want to say no, like literally. Then he went on
a tirade about how artificial insemination and made some tasteless

(07:13):
comments about how those diagnosed with mental disabilities don't come
from artificial something like that. I'll actually read it to you.
Quote this is why artificial insemination is such a blessing,
he stated. It goes on to say, having there's the
ART word again children is a choice and I'm gonna

(07:37):
just leave it there. So this again is not really
to highlight him as much as it. We do have
to talk about him. But the reason we're talking about
him is because there's a much larger reaction to this
particular post than we have seen either of us have
seen when he's posting about his swastikas and how he

(07:59):
is a Nazi and all this sort of stuff.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
So that's a little bit.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Of background for you. Q is here with the Louisville,
So you know, take it away and I'll jump back
in when you know it's my turn.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Mister West has always been a very very interesting person,
from the beginning of his story all the way up
until now. But there was a there was a point,
a line of demarcation, if you will, where he started
making anti black decisions out loud in front of everyone.

(08:39):
And we liked his music so much that we excused
it anything from he's just trolling, to he's a provocateur
to he's just you know, shock clickbaiting people. So when
he draped himself in the Confederacy, we made an excuse
and apologized. When he said he was a choice, we

(09:02):
made excuses and apologized. When he said, in response to
black lives matter, no white lives matter, we made excuses
and we apologized. When he wore a Maga hat and
said Trump was his father, we made excuses and we apologized. Now,

(09:30):
in an effort to shock an awe all of us,
he goes full Nazi. Whether you think he's trolling, or
he's doing this for attention, or he really means it,
they're all just as bad. Let me insult whoever's the

(09:54):
most popping right now, oh wait, that didn't work. Let
me say the most disgusting things I can about the
children of two people who had a very, very pivotal
role in all of my personal.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Success, transformative role.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
He has gotten to me a point where, since I
have more money than everybody else, everyone is less worthy,
less intelligent, should be respected, lest should not be listened to.
No one smarter than me, no one's richer than me.
I hate everybody. So from racism to misogyny, to sexism,

(10:44):
to homophobia to anti semitism. There seems to be no
length prior to today that mister West could go to
that would make people finally say, hey, yo, maybe this
dude just isn't a good person. We've made excuses, we've
apologized for him. It's his mental health, and he knows

(11:06):
that he can use his mental health or our perception
of his mental health, as a get out of jail
free card. Whenever he pushes it too far and someone
actually pushes back, then he flips into the victim. And
now some people, because of the way he insulted these kids,

(11:29):
will finally say enough is enough. But what we also
know is true is something's coming. A song a new
backpack a new line of racist clueklux clan robes or
swastika shirts.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
I just saw him. I just saw him wearing a
like a necklace with the swastika on it, like he
got a chain.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Some type of capitalist endeavor follows him when he does
all this nonsense, and people will support it. People will
buy it, and people will tweet about it, and people
will play the songs and buy the merch and buy
the shoes and convince us all that we're the ones

(12:11):
who are sheep and who are not woke enough, and
who are missing this brilliant point he's trying to make
this anti system, antie powers that be contrarian without a
cause message that he's trying to get across. I don't
know at what point everybody will just say, heyo, that

(12:31):
dude is whack.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
Hey, that dude is whack.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
He's been whacked.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
But you know, but I do want to maintain our
stance here. Dude is extremely, extremely whack. He got I've
never seen anybody get as whack as him, from as
popping as he was. Okay, So that's the truth first, foremost, beginning,

(13:00):
middle and end. But I'm always going to hope for
the best for him and hope that he finds his way.
I don't want to wish nothing bad on him. I
don't you know, he was Kanye West. It's so weird, man,

(13:22):
because he like, for such a long time he felt
like a hero of ours. I want to talk here
about black people.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Go ahead, I want to pause. Kanye West has been
an out loud and aggressive racist for a long time, sexist, misogynist, homophobic, xenophobic,
anti semite, declared himself a Nazi, has made idols of

(13:53):
his Adolph Hitler and Donald Trump.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
I will no longer reserve grace or thief. Yeah, you know,
you're gone so far out of his way to offend
and be disrespectful to literally everyone. No, you're you're right.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
I think that you know you know me, Q, you
know me much longer we've done this show. I know
you can't think of any examples where I've actually certainly
not publicly put down anybody who is black. I can
disagree with him whatever, it's.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Just ever you've never you've never done so.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
And so that's I try to you know, I think
I'm just trying to hold out because like it's like
I feel like it. But no, if he was anybody else.
Just because he has black skin doesn't mean he's not
a racist, not and not causing harm the harm that
a racist causes. Right, So your your point is made
well made anti racist. That's like, yeah, oh god, it's

(14:56):
so it's so disturbing. But again, we had come to
this conclusion a long time ago. This isn't you know,
Ramses and Jaw's eyes opening. You know, obviously we had
our We had a whole magnifying glass on us with
this guy for a long time, so you know, we
knew how we felt in terms of, like, you know,

(15:19):
dude is just in the wrong. But now the fact
that everyone else is kind of scratching their heads and saying, wow,
he's saying.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
What about who's kids?

Speaker 1 (15:28):
That's a legendary cornball move, legendary, Like it'd be different
if he said it about some people he didn't know,
or some people he kind of knew. He jumped on
stage to defend Beyonce talk about an about face. My
big brother was BIG's brother. That's his lyrics off of
his album talking about jay Z. He just talked about

(15:51):
both of their kids in the most horrifying way I've
ever seen anybody publicly talk about somebody's children. So again,
you're you're right, man, there's a point where I guess
I kind of have to accept the fact that.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
He lost. Man, he lost, and you can hear it.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
It's hard for me to say because, like I said,
once upon a time, that was a hero, somebody who
was brave and could speak up and can say the truth,
like yo, George Bush doesn't care about But even if
that wasn't true, I didn't believe that, you know, not
in the way that he did, but I believe it
needed to be said.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Just yo.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
These people are trying to you know, in terms of
you know, Hurricane Katrina. These people are trying to survive.
There's no food, there's no refrigerator, going into the stores
and getting food, and you're calling them looters. And George
Bush is not reacting to this the way that he
needs to. George Bush doesn't care about black people. He
had a split second and say that. He said it,
and it changed everything. That's what a hero does, risk

(16:54):
it all for his people. He said it in that broadcast,
these are my people, y'all. So I saw that kind
and I also, unfortunately just saw a picture of him
with a swastika, diamond swastika on his neck or whatever
that was made out of. So you know, I guess
he didn't about face on Beyonce, jay Z and us.
And you know, if jay Z doesn't have to forgive him,

(17:14):
Beyonce doesn't have to forgive him, I guess that means
rams it doesn't have to forgive him either, So I
don't need to hold that grace. So thank you, Q,
because you know that's that's a belief that I that
was a hell I would have died on man like
I just don't want to. I don't want to make
a life out of tearing down black men. But also

(17:36):
at the same time, I could very well cross over
into cowardice. And that's why I said thank you for
keeping me on this side of that, because you know,
holding grace for him, I think is starting to get
there with there's there's way too much for too long
with this guy. And this isn't even the straw that

(17:57):
broke our back. I just I think I just needed
to say it out loud. So I think that's it
for me and Kanye. And you know what that means, Q,
Because as we mentioned before, the block button works very
well in my world. So do you hear me DJing
this guy? And he's got some hits, But you know,
that's that's where I'm at. So man, I feel like

(18:20):
I grew up a little bit right now.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Yeah, it's a painful way to grow.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
But got to have with the cameras on me and
the lights and the microphones. But you know, at least
I have my brother with me. I appreciate you you.
I love you.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
