Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey, it's Delilah. Thank you for stopping by. I have
put together some of my favorite radio moments here to
share with you on our daily podcast. Hey it's Delilah.
Do you ever find yourself fussing, arguing, getting annoyed with
(00:25):
your partner, your sweetheart, your husband, your wife, and your
best friend, your person? And just a moment, I'm going
to have a conversation with someone who is in the
very depths, the deepest depths. Actually, he hasn't even reached
the deepest depths, because right now he's just in shock.
(00:49):
But he is entering into a season of grief, an
all consuming season of grief that is going to wrap
around him like a cloak. But tonight he's focusing on
(01:09):
the love of his life, and he has some very
wise words for all of us when we find our partner,
when we find our person, when we find someone that
loves us unconditionally. He has some very wise words to share. Hello,
good evening, you've called it Elilah show.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Who is this?
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Oh? My name's Dennis.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Hi, Dennis, Welcome aboard my friend. What can I do
for you tonight?
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Well, I've got a very special request for a very
special song and it's gould be tough to get it out.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
Okay, take a deep breath.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Oh all right, Well I thought I could. I thought
I got all my crying out. But it's my wife
for twenty five years went on to be with the Lord.
Yesterday morning. He had cancer, a very bad cancer, and
for nine months she fought the fight of her life.
We knew, or at least we thought we knew, that
(02:09):
we wouldn't get retirement together. So we made choices early
in our lives to do the things that were important
to us, and we only ever had our fur babies,
and as her health issues progressed, we knew more and
more that we had make the right choice. And we've
lived on the road, traveling. I had a travel job,
and we did everything that we ever wanted to do.
(02:30):
And then and now I'm left alone and it hurts.
But our wedding song, we had no idea at the time,
would become the anthem for our lives together. And it
was Richard Mark and Donald Lewis is at the beginning,
and it was from the animated movie Anastasia, and I
(02:53):
had never even heard of it at the time, but
so much of the lyrics became so important to us
over time, because we found each other's perfect travel partner,
and we've been through everything together. And I held her
hand right up until the end, and it was very sad,
sad time. And now I'll be leaving to take her
(03:14):
home in a couple of days, and I just I
can't stop thinking about her, and home is so quiet,
and it hurts, and I know that it won't be
this painful forever. But I just want to make sure
that if you find that one person, you hold on
to him for everything, and at the end we're going
(03:37):
to be back together again. I know that you.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Said something when I picked up the phone, and you
said you thought you had got all your tears out, Honey,
you you haven't even started the tears. In our culture
and our nation, in our world, we don't honor grief.
We think it's something you got to sweep away or
(04:00):
get through quickly, or work through. If you shared how
many years twenty five years with this wonderful soul were
you when you said you were on the road, where
you were you like in a motor home, a travel trailer,
a fifth wheel? What do you mean you were on
the road.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
We've actually burned out three motor homes. I'm still in
our third ones, but we were already having We were
already coming up with plan for the next one.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
You've stayed at campgrounds and koas, and wandered up rivers
and wandered through forest and looked at waterfalls.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
You've tasted fresh fruit and.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Oranges in the season, and gone to beaches and lakes
and rivers across this beautiful country we live in. You've
experienced so much wildlife and nature and meeting new people
and making new friends at every campground you stayed at.
(05:05):
You've crammed one hundred and fifty years in the last
few years.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
It sounds like.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
We have, I had said to her, and she agreed.
We lived a hundred lifetimes together, and we lived so
much more than we ever imagined we would. We saw
so much more. She didn't want to have a bucket list.
She was a country girl, so she said she would
be buying the farm. And her farm list got scratched
(05:32):
off and rewritten, and scratched off, and rewritten. And I
was so guilty that we still left things undone. And
she kind of put me at ease when she said
that it was okay, because even if she had scratched
everything off, she would have found more to put on.
There would have always been something left undone. And she's
(05:53):
left me with a few trips that I have to
accomplish for her, and I will do so gladly. I
was humbled. She made me so much of a better
person than I ever was. She really was my angel.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
I will play that song for you, your song, and I
will say a prayer for your heart. Thank you, Thank
you for calling, thank you for sharing your love. My
hobby and I love to go motor homing.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
We love it.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
I work with a lot of people that go from
airport to airport. I am so blessed to be able
to see what's in between those airports.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Amen, let me play a song for you.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
You have. I'm not going to say you have a
good night, because you're not going to You're gonna cry
and you're gonna reach for her and she's with the Lord.
But something else you said in our conversation. You said,
I know we'll be together again.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
You will be and we will be on the next
journey together.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
Amen, Thank you, thank you, God bless you.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Welcome. This is Delilah. Who's this?
Speaker 5 (07:11):
Hi, Delilah, This is Julie.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Hi, Julie, welcome. How are you?
Speaker 5 (07:15):
Thank you? Oh I'm not too too good?
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Oh what's wrong, honey?
Speaker 5 (07:21):
I have a dedication from uh. He was my first love,
my love Nikki. Today's his birthday, Yeah, and he would
have been forty four, but.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Your lost Nikki.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Yes, he died. His anniversary in heaven was this past Monday,
and I went to visit him in the cemetery. So
that's my dedication, endless love.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
And did you know when you went to visit him
in the cemetery that he wasn't there.
Speaker 5 (07:51):
Yes, I do know that. I do. I have faith
in God, and I do know that he's in heaven.
He died of cancer and although he knew everybody who
loved him, and everybody didn't want him to leave, of course,
but that would be selfish because we know he was
in a lot of pain. So I do know that
he wasn't there. But it's just nice to go there.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
It is. Have you ever heard the poem that says,
do not stand at my grave and weep?
Speaker 5 (08:20):
I did.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
I am not there.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
I do not sleep, I do not sleep.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
I read that while I was there.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
I love that poem.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
I love that poem too. First I sang endless, love
out louder, and then I cried, I laughed, They did
so many different things. I danced and I actually I
was actually even raising my hands and saying, you're free.
I know you're free, Nikki, And then I did read
(08:48):
that poem.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
I so hope you have enjoyed these radio moments as
much as I enjoy bringing them to you. I'll share
more with you each weekday. It's Delilah, do you b
