Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hello, friends, it's Miss Sturjame and welcome back to Kids
Animal Stories. Do you know there are two ways that
you can help me out so much? One you can
leave a five star review on our Apple podcast that's
super cool because I love hearing from you. And two
you can tell a friend. So right now, maybe your
parents can think of two friends of yours that you
can share and text this story to. Well, are you

(00:28):
guys ready to find out what happens with Ariano who's
lost in the middle of the jungle in Indonesia? Me too,
Let's go mom. Mom. Ariano is still trying to get
her bearing straight. She was trying to figure out where

(00:49):
in the world in the jungle she had now stumbled into.
That big lightning boom had scared her so much she
took off running and now could no longer hear where
her mother was. Rah Rah. She tried to roar as
loud as she could, but nothing was loud enough. The
storm was still booming and raining, and she remembered that

(01:12):
in one of her homeschool emergency classes. She knew that
she needed to find shelter immediately. As she started to
sniff around and look, she finally found a little bit
of a cave that was made from some roots of
a tree that had started growing out of the ground
and created this little dome of all this debris. But

(01:36):
the roots were like the structure of it, and so
she could crawl underneath it. It was nice and dry
in there. As she crawled inside, she remembered that she
needed to stay calm in an emergency like this. Okay,
I can do this. I just have to follow everything
that mom taught me. Then I can get back home,

(01:59):
all right. And just then she heard footsteps walking outside
of her little cave. Mom, is that you, She shouted out. Wow. Wow.
The sound from outside was not her mom, It was
from another young cat. As she peeked her head outside,

(02:21):
it was not another young tiger. This was another big
cat that had spots instead of stripes. What kind of
big cat has spots? Because tigers they have black stripes, right,
what kind of big cat has black spots? Yes, a leopard.

(02:41):
That is a baby leopard. Wow, hello, said Ariana. You
look very wet out there. You should come on in hurry. Wow.
The leopard walked inside and shook off its fur from
all the rain. Oh, thank you so much. My name

(03:01):
is Louis, and I've I got lost in this storm
and I don't know what to do. Arianna couldn't believe it,
because that's exactly what happened to her too. Oh, Louis,
Oh my goodness. My name is Arianna, and I got
lost too. Me and my mom. We were doing swimming
lessons and all of a sudden, that big lightning boom

(03:22):
came out of nowhere, and it scared me so bad.
Did you hear that? I totally did, said Louis. That's
what scared me too, But I really don't know how
to get home, and this is the first time that
I've been away from my parents. All Right, Louis, I'm
pretty sure that we are living the exact same life
right now, because everything you're saying is exactly what I'm thinking.

(03:45):
So I think if we work together, we can totally
get back to our families, said Arianna. Arianna and Louis
started building a plan together. They had to remember everything
that they had learned in their own school. Lewis remembered
about scent trails, and Arianna remembered about breaking branches. Wait

(04:06):
a second, what is a scent trail? Oh? Yes, a
scent trail that is what tigers use to make their
own trail, but instead of like writing on a map,
they use their scent markings. So every tiger and all cats,
they have special glands inside them that release a scent

(04:29):
that is only theirs. No other tiger has a smell
that smells like that tiger. And so Arianna remembered that
her mom would always rub her neck on different branches
and trees and bushes to make this scent trail. And
she thought Lewis, maybe if we can find each other's

(04:50):
scent trails back to our homes, then we'll be able
to find our parents. That's a great idea. But uh,
what about all the rain. Doesn't the rain kind of
ruin our sent trails, said Louis. Oh yeah, said Ariana.
But wait a second. Uh the branch the branches and

(05:11):
snapping them, that's right. Arianna remembered another very important tool
that tigers use visual signals. So as they're walking, you know,
maybe to the river from their home, they're also intentionally
breaking branches and creating a trail that they can follow.

(05:31):
It's not perfect because they don't want every creature to
know their trail, but if they know which branches to
look out for that were broken by a tiger that
can help Arianna get back to her home if the
scent markings have been washed away from the rain. As
Louis and Arianna continued talking, they figured out that they

(05:52):
actually think they live pretty close to each other, and
so if they head back in the same direction together,
they're gonna get pretty close to back to their own homes.
But first, said Ariana, we got to cross that river. Louis,
have you learned to swim yet? Yeah, We've actually been
working on that the past couple days and I've gotten
pretty good. Oh that's great. Well, I've only done it

(06:15):
one time. But to get back to our homes, we're
definitely gonna need to cross the river. Has the rain stopped?
Louis poked his head out from under all the tree
roots of their little cave home. Uh, yeah, it finally has.
But it looks like the rivers a lot higher and
faster than before it is, said Ariana. Yikes, that makes

(06:40):
me a little nervous. She said, it's okay, we can
stick together and we can do this. Louis and Arianna
carefully walked over to the river. The jungle seemed a
lot scarier now that she was no longer with her
big mom to protect her. All the sound from monkeys

(07:01):
and birds and everything else sounded a lot spookier. All right, Ariana,
we gotta go. It's starting to get dark. Louis jumped
into the river and started swimming. Arianna jumped in right
behind him. They swam as fast and hard as they could.
The river felt a lot different now than it did

(07:22):
before from all that rain. The river was now deeper
and moving faster. She had to pedal her paws a
lot faster, and finally, all right, they made it to
the other side. They shook off all the water from
the river and started on their hunt for the trail.
They both raised their noses up to the air and

(07:44):
started to sniff. I smell it, I smell my mom,
said Ariana. Me too, said Louis. And they were both
in the same direction. As they started down the trail
through the jungle. It led them through all kinds of
familiar bushes and past trees that they remembered, and it

(08:09):
kept smelling, and it smelled like they were going in
the right direction. Remember, they also had to look for
broken branches that were made by either a tiger or
a leopard that would lead them back to home. All right, Arianna,
I think I have to go this way. I think
my home is right up that hill up the mountain. Okay,

(08:30):
are you gonna be good to go? Said Lewis. Yeah,
my home I think is right down there. You can
almost I think that's my mom. It's been really fun
going on this adventure together. We should play again soon,
said Ariana. Totally, let's totally hang out tomorrow, said Louis.

(08:50):
As Louis the leopard jumped off towards his family and
his home, Arianna was so happy to return back home
to her mom, who was way waiting for her with
open arms. Wow, great job Arianna and Lewis, you guys
used your creature skills to get all the way back

(09:11):
home after you got very, very lost. I'm so glad
that homeschooling taught you all those great things, and I
can't wait for your next adventure. The end. Great job,

(09:31):
you listened all the way to the end. Do you
remember the difference between Lewis and Ariana? What's the difference
between leopards and tigers? Yes, tigers have stripes and leopards
have spots. Great job, and what was that really important
thing that tigers and leopards use to communicate and follow

(09:53):
the trail? Do they draw maps or use their smell? Yes,
they use their smell well for the centrails. Great job,
my friends. Well, I hope you have a super duper
day and I will see you on a next adventure. Bye.
