Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello, Critter Protectors. Mister Jim here and welcome to Kids
Animal Stories, a place where there's always a mystery and
adventure around every single corner. If you love critters of
all shapes and sizes, I need you on our Critter
Protector team. Join our adventure as we learn about critters

(00:23):
from around the world and in our back yards. Well,
my friends, are you ready for today's adventure? Me too,
Let's go. Atlas is a young beluga whale living with
his pod in Canada. Remember, pod is a group of whales.

(00:48):
He likes having a routine and prefers to do things
the same way every time. But one normal day or
one you know, he thought it was going to be
a normal day. During soundschool, something happened that caused Atlas
to worry. A strange creature was approaching the adults in
their group with a big horn poking out of it.

(01:12):
He has no idea what's going on, but let's see
what happens next. Atlas could not believe his eyes. Professor
Melody was swimming right up to this new creature. From
a distance, he looked almost like a spotted gray beluga
with a stick on its head. Oh no, that thing

(01:37):
looked sharp. Oh, she's gonna get hurt. A good watch.
He closed his eyes and waited for something bad.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
To happen of it.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
To his surprise, nothing bad happened. As a matter of fact,
it looked like things were going quite well. The student
and watched from afar as Professor Melody spoke to the
strange creature and then to the adult Belugas. After a
few minutes, the discussion ended and Professor Melody was headed

(02:11):
back to her class. After a moment's hesitation, the stranger followed.
Professor look Out yelled Atlas, the stranger is following you.
All of the students began to panic and swim around
in circles. They wanted to swim away, but didn't want

(02:34):
to leave their teacher behind a fend for herself. All
of a sudden, a high pitched whistle shot through the
air around them. Everyone stopped what they were doing and
stared at Professor Melody, where she made the sound.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Hold on to your flippers, class, There is no need
to lose our melons over this friendly friend. Allow me
to introduce our newest student, Clark the Narwal.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
No one moved or made a sound. Professor Melody continued,
Clark here got separated from his part, so he's going
to be staying with us for a little while. Since
he's the same age as Atlas, I thought it would
be good for him to join our sound school and

(03:27):
make some friends. Clerk smiled shyly and waved with his
left flipper.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
I want you to split off into pairs and find
some lunch. Atlas, you're going to be Clark's buddy for
the rest of the afternoon.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Okay, Professor Melody said Atlas. He sounded confident on the outside,
but the inside he was nervous. Atlas had never met
a narwhale before and didn't know how to act. Plus,
he usually ate lunch alone did not want to change
his routine. Do you know what a narwhale looks like? Well,

(04:06):
they're on a whale, but they pretty much have like
a unicorn horn coming out of their head. They're an
amazing looking creature. Atlas called to Clark, and the pair
swam to the shallows to look for their lunch. Eventually,
he worked up the courage to introduce himself. Oh hi,

(04:30):
my name name is Atlas. I usually have four cod
and four clams for lunches. Is that okay with you.
Clark smiled broadly and said squid is my favorite food,
but I could try something new. I'm just glad that
to be on my own.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Eddie bore.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Sorry you got bust and I hope you can feel
at home here. Can I ask you a question? Sure thing.
It took a few moments to work up the courage
to ask this question. Um um, how did you get
that stick on your head? Oh? This all thing? That's

(05:13):
just my tusk. Lots of narwals have them. It doesn't
hurt me or anything. It's basically like a long pointy tooth.
Alice had more questions. Is that who you hunt? Do
you use your tusk like a sword? No? I use
sounds to hunt, replied Clark. Hey me too, great, let's

(05:39):
do this thing. I'm starving. Atlas showed Clark all the
best places to look for clams. They quickly found them
and ate them all up. Clark ate enough to be full,
but Alice only ate his usual four. He wanted to
eat four CODs to complete his everyday normal lunch. Even

(06:01):
though Clark was full, he spent his time helping Atlas fish.
The friends found some mackerel caring in finally some delicious
cod Atlas eight four and found that he could finally relax.
Before long, it was time to head back to Sound

(06:21):
School for the afternoon. Atlas, Clark and the rest of
the class spent the rest of the day learning how
to make different types of clicks. When it was time
to leave, Atlas, it's kind of sad and excited. He
didn't want to say goodbye to Clark, but he could
look forward to school the next day when he would

(06:42):
see his narwhale friend again. Just as he was about
to leave, Atlas remembered for something he wanted to do.
Professor Melody, Well, thank you for helping me find a
new friend today. I don't like it when things change,
but I guess I learned not all change is bad.

(07:03):
Knowing Clerk is definitely a good change.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
I'm so glad the two of you are friends, and
you are right. Change isn't often easy, but sometimes it
can be a really good thing.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
So you to moral, professor yelled Atlas as he swam away.
He was busy thinking about the fore cod and four
clams he was planning on having for dinner. Wow, who's
ready for a super amazing out of this world fact?
This story about Atlas and Clark the narwhal is actually

(07:38):
based on a real story. In twenty sixteen, a narwal
was spotted swimming with a pot of Blouga whales. Wow,
how cool is that? Making friends is always a great
way to try something new. The end, Great job, you

(08:02):
listened all the way to the end. And you know
what Tom it is? Oh yeah, it's Tom First, I'm
quitter Protector shout out. So I want to say hello
to Lily from Langley, British Columbia. Noah and Lillian from
Pine Island, New York, Rexford and Merrick from Bedford, New Hampshire.

(08:22):
Three brothers. What do we have here? Eli, Zeke and
Solomon from Texas all is smokes. I'm so glad that
we have all of you on our Critter Protector team.
We could not protect all the critters in the world
without you, my friends. Will you have a super deeper
day and I'll see next time. Bye.
