Hello again, and welcome back to Kids Bible Stories. Today's
story is called Your Father's Voice. This comes from John
chapter ten, verses one through six. Now to today's story.
Before we start, let's talk about what a figure of
(00:23):
speech means. You'll need to understand this for the episode.
Have you ever heard of a figure of speech? No? Well,
it's when you use words to show a meaning, usually
by comparing one thing with another, and helps you better
understand what they are saying. Let me just show you
(00:46):
an example so you understand. You've probably heard this one.
Have you ever heard someone say the classroom was a zoo? Now?
Does that mean that they were actually lying and elephants
and monkeys in a classroom? No, No, it's a figure
(01:07):
of speech. What they mean is the classroom was very
noisy and chaotic, like a zoo with lots of animals. Today,
you'll hear Jesus using a figure of speech saying that
he is the shepherd and we his followers, are his sheep.
(01:27):
Does this mean we are actually sheep with fluffy white hair. No? No,
he's using this because he knew people were very familiar
with sheep and shepherds, and they could understand what he
was talking about when he used this as an example.
So when you hear shepherd today, everyone says, shepherd, shepherd,
(01:51):
we should think of Jesus. Now that we cover that,
let's hear what Jesus has to say. Jesus stood looking
at the Pharisees, these important religious leaders who knew all
(02:15):
about God's law. They taught others, yet did everything in
their power to keep them from accepting the true Messiah
who stood right in front of them. Jesus had a
gentle smile, but at the same time a serious tone.
(02:37):
What he had to tell.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Them was important, very truly, I tell you, Pharisees. Anyone
who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate,
but climbs in by some other way is a thief
and a robber. The one who enters by the gate
is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the

gate for him and the sheep. They listen to his voice.
He calls his own sheep by name, and he leads
them out.

Imagine Jesus gently calling us like sheep, leading us to safety.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Follow me, Bethany Everett overhear Rachel and brooks, he.

Knows your name. Okay, let's continue.

When he has brought out all his own. He goes
on ahead of them, and his sheep they follow him.
But why because they know his voice? But they will
not follow a stranger. In fact, they will run away
from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees scratched
their heads. Oh do you get what he is saying? Uh? No, no,
don't you guys? Do you think he is saying that
we are the robbers and the strangers? They were puzzled.
(04:27):
They did not understand what Jesus was telling them. Well,
that is it for our story today. But before we go,
let's think about what we just heard in this scripture.
(04:49):
Who was Jesus saying, is the shepherd Jesus? Yes? And
who are the sheep people who follow him? Exactly? Does
Jesus say his sheep know his voice? Yes? Did you
(05:13):
know that when your mother was pregnant with you you
could hear her voice and even your father's if he
was close by speaking. And as a teeny tiny baby
growing inside your mama for months, you got used to
hearing your parents' voices. You knew their voices so well
(05:37):
that after you were born, when your parents spoke, you
would turn your little head and look in their direction.
Isn't this amazing? Babies actually do this, They know their parents' voices.
It took time and relationship for them to know the
(05:58):
voice Jesus paints such a beautiful picture. He says that
he knows his sheep by name. Shout out your name,
Josephine Jameson. He knows your name, and because we know
(06:22):
his voice, we can follow him. You may not hear
his voice the same way you hear your parents' voices,
but there are ways that we can know his voice.
Share a way that would help us know Jesus's voice
