Meghan Markle’s brand-new Netflix series is getting torched by critics, with some calling it an “exercise in narcissism.” The Duchess of Sussex, 43, revealed that some of her closest friends were “personally offended” after not receiving a jar of her exclusive homemade preserves last year. Royal watchers couldn't help but wonder—was the former actress hinting at the stifling nature of her royal past?

Donny Meacham joins Rob! Don't forget to vote in today's poll on Twitter at @naughtynicerob or in our Facebook group.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Shoo, it's time.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Hello, no, welcome to me, naughty but nice. Sha'm your host,
drop shooter, and it is Wednesday, which means our dear
friend Donny Mitcham joins us, Hey, Donnie, are you there?

Speaker 3 (00:24):
The level level level Hello? I got a practice being
what uptight today? I got a practice being you know,
a little high brow today. Since it's our girl, mega
mark mega Meghan.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yesterday she released her entire series. I think it's eight
episodes in all. I watched all of them, and we're
going to get it's today. What time is it, my friends?
It is t time. So first of all, let's talk
about Megan's critical response. So the critics have nice seen this.
Netflix did not send out screeners, which is very telling.

(00:59):
The screen is an advanced copy and often the press
get them early and they can write their reviews, but
embarger them to drop the day the show drops. That
didn't happen. So I think this sort of made critics
a little bit prickly. Am I allowed to say that
that they had to watch all eight episodes in a
day and it's a lot. It's a lot to watch.

(01:19):
I did it. One critic is saying, gets pointless. Another
saying gets joyless, and maybe the harshest is saying it
is an exercise in narcissism. Let me explain eight episodes
series produced by Megan and Harry their Archerworld Productions. It
features the Duchess as she whips up homemade treats and

(01:40):
tales and talks about her her friendships, and also tends
to her garden in Montecito, California. The Guardian, which is
a very fancy British paper, said, I hope this is
the last TV show they do. They've not been that successful,
darning I wanted this one to be really fun. I
watched the other two not so great. Also to Radio Times,

(02:02):
which is a huge outlet in Britain a little softer
but not positive, saying they're trying to reimagine the genre
of the lifestyle programming but they failed. It's pretty much
like every other lifestyle type of show out there. Celebrity friends,
lots of brunches, countless plugs for businesses. The Independent Reporter

(02:26):
in London only gave it one star, saying, oh, it
was exhausting. However, let me give it a robshooter review
and I've been generous. I hope I thought it was
a bit boring, Donnie, and I lost my focus. It
lost my attention within. I gotta admit the first twenty
minutes and I love this stuff. I'm very nosy. I

(02:47):
want to see people's homes. I want to see all
the details. I wasn't into it, Donnie, and I wanted
to enjoy it.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Yes, and now, look, this was the show awful?

Speaker 2 (02:58):
No, it was.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Or Meghan, if you're going to do a show, you already,
people already are losing faith in you.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Go out there.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
And swing for the dishes. Sweetie, walk in there, camp Camp.
I want to see your closet. You come out in
the craziest oppasion to go. Me and Harry have done
it right there four times. We actually did it this morning,
right there, right before we started filming. That's what it's like, Meghan.
You have nothing left to loose. You're still stuck on this.

(03:29):
You don't want to be a royal, you don't want
to be part of the royal family, but you want
to act in the air.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Of a royal, which is a weird space you're in,
so it's space you're human, act human, Megan. This is so.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Bad and we know from all the reality shows that
we love and hate. You gotta turn the volume up
a little bit. When I think of the Kardashian way,
I think of the Real Housewives, that now is the
gold standards. You might not like those shows, but that's
what you are competing with here, Meghan, So I don't
I don't really know what it was. It wasn't quite
a reality show, but it wasn't a Martha Stuart cooking show,

(04:03):
which I love. I love watching Martha at Lydia's kitchen.
I love all that stuff. I wish Gwenneth did one.
I'd laugh out lad. That's what the problem is, Donnie. Humorous.
There was no fun to it. Even when Meghan insisted
she was having fun with all her friends, I just
didn't believe it. It felt very cautious, very very careful.
It fell to almost as if this was designed by

(04:27):
committee to give you a version of Meghan that she
wants out there, rather than the true version, which, as
we know, Donnie, the most authentic version of yourself is
always the best version you. When you try to be fancy,
when you try to be quality, Donnie doesn't work when
you're trashy and low rent and dirty, donnay, that's when

(04:51):
we love you.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
It's I can't but all right, so let's not forget.
So Meghan and Harry signed this Netflix deal a long
time a it was years ago, and Netflix is like
you always something, What do you got, sweetie?

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Where can you turn out something?

Speaker 1 (05:06):
And she's like, well, I want to do this, this,
this and this, and they're like, fine, all right, let's
do this.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
And now they didn't send.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Out the screeners on purpose. You also didn't help yourself
because the critics are upset and they're annoyed that they
now have to sit honest Monday and watch eight episodes
and they're like, oh.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
God, I don't want to do it.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
This wasn't handled that well with which brings us to
our whole question of the day. Megan Marcus Cooking show
is getting roasted boom boom by the critics. Some are
calling get pointless, joyless? Are they being too harsh? You've
seen some of it, maybe you've watched a few clips
of it. It's not awful, Donny. I'm so glad you
pointed at that. It's not embarrassing. If it was embarrassing,

(05:48):
it'd be great, it'd be delicious TV it'd be like
a Wendy william The shirt, which is so outrageous. Remember
when Wendy was so sloppy and messy. Oh, I couldn't
wait to watch This isn't polished enough to be or
to be Martha Stewart, but it's not messy enough to
be The Housewives or Wendy Williams. It falls between two
stools for me. But what do you think on the

(06:10):
critics being too harsh? Heker votes on our Twitter page
at Notty Nice rob Our facebook page is Naughty Gossip
and Mishua to check back time out Rahwa to hear
your results. We have more Megan news, Donnie. What else
have we found out from this show?

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Well, one of the guests who was on the show
was Mindy Kayling, and speaking of I didn't buy her
and Mindy were friends. I didn't buy that they sit
around making jam together and.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
They do all this stuff.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Well, apparently people are personally offended that they didn't receive
the same jar of jam didn't get Mindy Kaylink says
she received. So apparently Mindy Kelling. They're talking about this gem,
this homemade preserves jar and Mindy received it, and some
people were like, excuse me, I didn't get it.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
I thought I supposed, but you left me out. I
want this terrible jam. I don't care if it's good
or bad. Jim, I want this jam.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
And it's just people are sources are saying some people
actually took it really personal.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
People the people. Although, Donnie, if you if you launched
a jam collection and you sent it to Delana and
Mark Lupo and Corey and Garrett are not me, I
would notice that. And so I do think, where did
Meghan come up with this list? And in true Megan
Fish fashion, she didn't come up with it. She always
manages to annoy someone. Part of me thinks that I

(07:35):
don't know if Megan finds trouble or if trouble finds her,
but she's always in it. Donnie, she's a loof.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
I think that that is Meghan. Hello, level, we know you. Listen,
you're a loof, sweetie. This is what it is.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
You just you aren't thinking all the details through. And
that's what let's also not forget. She did change the
name of the company the very last minute to strapped
new labels on all these jams and then ship them
out last minute. We all know the post Office is
going do a little bit of jobber right now.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
Blame the post Office, Meghan.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Meghan, that's very clever. Lane, Oh, Darli, that's so. This
is how how shifty, how enterprising, how shady you are?
You know how your bottom dare? I say? Okay, moving
along more Meghan news and Meghan appears to shade the
Royals in her new show. So it's an eight part series.

(08:24):
It's build as a how to guide for entertaining and
it really does mark her return to the spotlight. She
doesn't seem to be holding back, but fans were quick
to dissect her closing remarks in the season finale. I
went all the way to episode eight when she's closing out,
she has a glass raised up in gratitude to her

(08:45):
family and friends, including Prince Harry and her Mommy Dory Ragland,
who is there, and she said the following quote, this
feels like a new chapter. All of that is part
of that creativity that I've missed so much. Well now,
Royal Watches are pointing out that Meghan famously put her

(09:05):
own career on hold after she met up with Prince
Harry in twenty and seventeen, before stepping away from her
royal duties in twenty twenty, So I think we might
be reading into this a little bit. Creativity is something
that a lot of people really enjoy. They find it
really inspiring. So I think we can give her a

(09:25):
little bit of grace here and say that, you know,
coming out with your own show, it's a big deal.
Like it or not. Forget what the critics say. It's
a really big deal. I hope she is proud of it.
I hope this is a new chapter. I'm going to
give her a pass on this on what do you think?
Don't they?

Speaker 1 (09:41):
I do everything this woman is doing is driving me crazy.
I want to love her so much. I'm like, Meghan, babe,
what are you? You've just got so.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
Many things going on, and it just leading it to
the next story. Apparently she doesn't go by marcle anymore,
and she want you to know she.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
Does not go by Mega Mark explained. So Mindy Kaling
is on the episode, and you know, Mindy's like, oh,
Meghan Marko Marko Mark and mark Markle Sparkle, which is
what the company should have been called. And Meghan, now
this is the messiness that I would have wanted the
whole the whole series to be about. Meghan was like, oh,
it's kind of funny that you keep using the name
Meghan Marko.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
I'm a Sussex. Just so you know, I'm a.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Sussex and that is perfect because that's throwing shade at everybody,
because you know everybody at the Palace.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Was like, she's a second. She said that she's a
Sussex to correct one of your best friends. Though on
camera I might have said, you know what, let's just
stop filming for a second, mindy, my name is Megan Sussex,
which does sound very odd. But however, if that's what
you want me to call you, I'll call you whatever
you want. So I say, all terrific, thank you. We

(10:52):
would have carried on filming and I would have said
Meghan Sussex. But it was very important to her. Remember
she gets edit approval over this show, and so it's
very important for Meghan to correct her because I think
she wants to correct the world. I think today Meghan
Markel wants to be Meghan Sussex, which is tricky because
she did step away from this family, so why would

(11:14):
she take on this name. It's complicated too, because sometimes
she wants to be called Meghan. Sometimes she wants to
be called the Duchess. And so you've got to figure
out here which lane you want to be. And I
think this going back and forth between wanting to really
be treated like a royal but not being a royal,
or wanting to be a regular, average person. She talks

(11:37):
in one of the episodes about her new friends in
Montecito and they're just moms, they are just normal people,
and she just loves it. But then we see her
in a two thousand dollar cashmere sweather. It's so complicated,
okay movie Along to Meghan has shut down the label influencer,
saying that she is not an influencer. No, no, no,

(12:01):
no no, She's a business woman. So in a new
interview with People magazine that she did to promote the show,
she's out there she wants the show to be a
big hit. She is insisting the quote, I'm an entrepreneur
and a female founder, and if my brand ends up influential,
then that is great. But I am not an influencer, Megan.

(12:21):
That stuff doesn't matter. You've got so much going on,
You've got so many other problems where they call you
an influencer or not, it doesn't matter what it's sort.
There is a little bit of a put down of influencers.
It's like the way that Hollywood movie stars make fun
of reality stars. I think there's a bit of a
put down there. You should be lucky enough to be

(12:42):
an influencer.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
These influencers. There's a lot of influencers out there, you
know what there are. There are mommy influencers.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
Yes, there are moms out there, working moms who are
making lots of money doing this, and to be.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
Honest, they work harder than you do. Sweelie what you say.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
But also the most frustrating thing about this entire series
is we didn't even see the house.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Oh, Donnie, you.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
Didn't even get to see their house.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Explain, Johnnie, this is a big story.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
Everybody's pussing about this so okay cooking show with Megan life,
it's where I do my things. You would expect to
see the house she lives in with Harry. No, it
was a rental. No, she rented.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
She didn't film it at home. They rented a house
down the street. Why, Donny, Why is she saying why?
Because she is explaining this, she.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Does explain, She says, she wants to protect her safe haven,
her safe place with her family, and she says there
was a This is what.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
Cracks me up. Why is there an eighty plus person cruiser.
Eighty people? You need eighty people to watch?

Speaker 2 (13:46):
You make sham?

Speaker 1 (13:49):
Everything she says is outrageous because then he makes you think,
is it Netflix that is forcing eightyb The shows line,
which is.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Huge, worked on so many TV shows, Donny. The biggest
show I ever go on is the Today Show or
Good Morning America maybe a crew of like twenty maybe fifteen.
When I had my Morning show, there's a crew of
like about eight. Like Andy Cohen's crew is like five people.
If you go to watch what happens, and it's brilliant,
I'm not putting it down. He's really smart. You want
as few as people as possible because that's as few

(14:20):
salaries you have to pay. If you paid eighty people,
you better be getting twenty million viewers. Like this has
to come in, like Friends, This has to come in
like the super Bowl began. The Real Housewives, which we've
been on a ton of times done and we've gone
to a ton of tapins. They have like about five
cameras running around and maybe like five or six sort
of production producer people, but they're not eighty. Not eighty.

(14:42):
You can't fit eighty into any kitchen, including a rental.
So you didn't want to do it. I'd had more
respect if you just said it. I didn't want to
do it in my kitchen. I didn't want to do it,
So I rented a space and it's like a set.
But if she emits that upfront, then the big question
about how authentic she is is certainly going to be
raised again. And I think that's what the problem is

(15:03):
overall with the show. I didn't hate it. I didn't
love it authenticity. The reason I didn't love it, Donnie,
is I just don't believe it. I didn't believe it.
I think it's going to do a more harm than good. Hey,
we're going to take a quick break here and we
will be back with more gossip in just a moment.
Welcome back to the naughty but nice umber about her
with IDIO friend Donny Meacham. Hey, Donnie, let's get to
the polls. Our only story today that is not about

(15:24):
Mega Markle. So last year we talked about Denimore caught
on camera muttering a single word after she lost the
Oscar nice. Our question, that was the word, she muttered.
My question was quite simple, Should Demi have one? Let's
have a look, oh my big Demi fans here. Eighty
five percent said yes, Demi should have one. Hey, don't
forget to vote on today's poll about the critics and

(15:47):
Megan Markle. You can you can vote on our Twitter
page had Naughty Nice Rob. You can vote on our
Facebook page Nordy Gossip, and be sure to check back
to my brother to hear your results. Hey, Donnie, let's
bey my favorite part of the show. We finally found
one nice thing, docuse, we've been very critical and nicest
Megan moment of the day.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
All right, So a lot of people roast in the show.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Two people really liked the show, and that was Little
Archie Can Little Lilla bet who Little Bed could have
taken off her fake leg and threw it.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
That would have been real.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Just to clarify, a little bit does not have a
fake leg, but it's a real for the house.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
Very fun to throwback for it.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
So they gave their mom a beautiful handwritten beautiful which
handwritten she's five five and whatever, we're gonna go with it.
It's a handwritten note from Archie and Lilla Beet, who
is five and three. Fine, congratulations, mama. We love your
show and we love you.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
That's cute. We got Yeah, it's beauty. Let's have one
nice moment. Although I don't know if a three year
old mother written we're gonna be nice. I'm nicest the day,
and now I noticed the day. We are the notice
of the day because we're even criticizing her cooking skills.
I went online and people are saying, that's not food,
that's punishment. There's one recipe that Meghan tried to put together.

(17:08):
It was a skillet spaghetti where she tossed the entire
package of spaghetti into a pan with feta, cheese and
cherry tomatoes, and then she poured boiling water onto it
and cooked it all in one pan. And she called
it noodles, which upset people. And these are some of

(17:28):
the comments. This is not food, this is punishment. Another
person said, Megaboggle just invented the worst way to make pasta.
Italians are sued. I'm laughing, but I'm also cringing to
It was just the greatest moment on the show. Megan, Megan,
Meghan let's end with a moment of rub. You get

(17:49):
a rubb. Your one decision away from a completely different life.
So every choice you make shapes your future. One decision,
just one, has the power to completely shift your whole life.
You can just sit back and hope for change, or
you can actually take some action. That's the key here.

(18:13):
Your future is in your hands. It doesn't just happen.
It is created, and it's created by one person. You.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
You.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
You are one decision, Donnie away from a completely different life.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
Hey, choose your an adventure.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Choose it, Donnie, choose it. Hey, that is it for today.
