Speaker 1 (00:04):
NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart Podcasts.
Great episode here of NHL ist to coming at you
in casey you are unaware of this, We're now going

(00:25):
twice a week. Brad Richardson is our special guest today.
It's even better because I wasn't a part of it.
Talent JD question. Obviously, he's got great stories from his
time winning the Stanley Cup in Los Angeles in twenty twelve.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Coming to the league with the Avalanche.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Brad was fantastic, and of course we're talking about all
things at Nhall, including Loul Lamerell no longer a member
of the New York Islanders. But again thanks to everyone
who always is a part of our previous episodes. Jackie
Redmand specifically was great joining us from WrestleMania. Alex Moffin
is gonna be joining us next week. Former SNL cast
member from The Link. So honestly, our multitasking guests are fantastic.
But we're not even a week of the playoffs. Everyone's

(00:57):
buzzing about what's happening so far, with the exception of
the fact Steve Trunzano yesterday took a shot at us.
This was on NHL Now Jason Nise with our friend
e J. Raddick and Tron Shift right, and Shohn said,
makes you listen to NHL tonight first Shift the podcast.
Don't listen to that NHL is scripted podcast, and he goes, yeah, yeah,
those guys and commercials. No, this isn't your spot news
and information movies. Tron's buried us. Unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
That was an interesting one because that one seemed like
it was it was personal. Yeah, that was personal.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Yeah, he was going, don't listen to those guys.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Yeah, he's been up in his Ivory tower for too long.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
I did like that you mention that he came down
for Hisavrey Tower just to do that show with jd
Limberg got a commission.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Don't know where Jady Limberg was, but.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Yeah, he took it day off. Yeah, it's an interesting
time around the office at the end of the MLB
network once uh MLB starts up. Yeah, it's we we fight.
We fight every day. We fight every day. But you know, I,
you know, for the fans at home watching this, I
just have a few questions or quick questions for you.
What's with the Emmy behind you? And then the backwards

(01:57):
hat today because this is a look I have not seen.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
It looks playing was playing tennis earlier, didn't have a
chance of shower. Yet that's the backwards had Emmy award.
I noticed your background planned right, it's just like a
white background to some books in the distance.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Cancel what it is.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Talas background also nothing distinguishable. So I said, you know what,
I'm gonna have my Pacino Godfather picture in the back
of the Emmy. Just just bruce it up because we are
using some video here a little bit more often. So
I said, let's just try it out. Because your guys
backwards is not great. Let's get to the wild because
no one's given the whild that they love and you
want to talk about them. They look great last night,
bounce back in a major way. Left for dead after
Game one five two to even the series. Three points
for Corell to throw a Caprice off. If we had

(02:33):
a quarter pole mark of the year, it would have
been the MVP. Two points are Matt Boldie Minnesota's got
New Life love the fact Tony Luff was calling Gusta
some the gus bus on NHL tonight while they're back
in this baby like I got Vegas winning it, but
I didn't really get the Wile much of a chance
and they looked again speaking of that word resounding last night.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Yeah, I think the last two games, I think Vegas
is very surprised with the way the Minnesota while come
up because we've never really known what the Wild had
because they're injured all year and they're playing with a
chip on their show that they're playing very physical. The
Vegas Golden Knights do not have a second to breathe.
I mean, Shay Theodor had one of those games or

(03:11):
you want to crawl under the ice. Last game where
minus four and and nothing was going right, but that's
just by the pressure from Minnesota while now the second
and third period Vegas to dominate, but Gustavson held his own.
But I'm gonna say something. I'm gonna take a bold prediction.
I don't think they win this round. I think Vegas
ends up winning. But I think I think within the

(03:31):
three years they are either gonna contend for Stanley Cup
or win a Stanley Cup.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
If that's not bold, you just hedge they're gonna contend.
First thing, be final four go they.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Will they have an opportunity to win a Stanley Cup
in the next time.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
I think that maple LEAs im optunity to win the
Stanley Cup the next three ERSO, how is that a
bold prediction? Bold they're gonna win the Cup or the
final four the next three years, say Western Conference Final?

Speaker 3 (03:53):
They will, they will win the Cup? Are you like
this is? Are you joking?

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Said? Will they're gonna contend for a Stanley Cup? Like
I give.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Sixty I said, they'll win a Stanley Cup in the
next three years.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
No, no, no, tell go back and listen to it. For god,
I changed.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Because you wanted me to give you more. No, I said,
they will win a Cup in the next three years.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
That's the kind of thing we're looking for. On the record,
in the next three years.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
I would bet. I would take a futures bet. Brian
Boyle came into our group chat too. He said, there
you go, Boiler goes, Brian Boyle goes. Can I bet
the futures on the wild and I'm watching them? Said
they're one or two pieces away, one maybe from and
even you could say that they have most of that
on the roster right now, but they're one swing away.
They're getting all the money off their cap. This year,

(04:43):
all that dead cap money, they're getting it off. They're
gonna take a swing. Caprice off and Boldie are and
Eric Sinek excuse me, that line is unbelievable. You have
a first line. Now you get another big player. Their
decor is stout. They have a goalie and gust the bus.
In three years, I would not be surprised if they
win a Stanley Cup. There's you, son of a bitch.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Well, the good news is Vegas is gonna win this
series anyway, so they're not winning like that this year.
The Panthers fantastic performance last night, emphatic six to two.
Matthew could Chuck looked absolutely fabulous. First given more than
two months, he scores two goals while adding an assist.
Everyone said, well, if he's healthy, it's a different story.
You said we were sleeping on the Panthers. I called
the Panthers win, so I wasn't sleeping on them. I
had the Panthers in six.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
But most of the Panthers are witness.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Yeah tells you remember I remember I said Panthers in six,
Say tells backing me up. Your texts were like, oh,
we were sleeping not we you demurz ESPN analysts all
of them were picking the Lightning. I said, Panthers in six,
and it was an emphatic performance. I mean it was
great to see. Quite frankly, now, I don't think the
Panthers sweep. I don't I think this goes six. I
wouldn't be shocked the Lightning wing six to two in
game two, but a resounding performance again for the Panthers.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
I loved it. It was awesome.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
How many resoundings are you gonna get?

Speaker 1 (05:53):
You get the point that they're trying to do. I'm
trying to do it to get a reaction to you
and just everything. You're like, well, I got the potentially
win three.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Gonna get a reaction if you give me an original,
if you give me something original, not resounding eighteen, Well.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
That might you pay attention when I said in the podcast,
which is the Panther are gonna win the series? And
then you're like, oh, nobody picked him, Like, well I did.
Thanks for paying attention, Thanks for listening. What was that
was I not paying attention? This is our first fight,
this is their first fight. Attention to detail pour from diverse.
Go ahead, go back to your predictions.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Please. You had the Lightning winning.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
I was ahead. When I said we, I think I was.
I meant the NHL network, not the NLB network. Listen,
you know more. You know more than me.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Why would you text it to me the NHL and
script It makes no sense. You're texting all talent tow
Did you have Tampa?

Speaker 3 (06:34):
I didn't think. Sorry, I don't like it.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
I don't like it when mommy and daddy fight.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
I'm just gonna this is good. I like it though,
this is no. I love the fire. I didn't make
any picks.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
If I had, I would have taken Tampa for sure,
because they had so much momentum going in. But I mean,
that's what a Matthew Kuchuk does. He comes in and
plays for the first time in two and a half
months and completely flips a series on its ear in
one game.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
And that's right, that's what we got. Now, I was
sleeping on them, and we lest we forget this team
and now who those where the series goes. But I
mean there's a lot of discussions right now and the
whole LTI R thing and and teams. You know, Matthew
Kichuk have playing Game one and then Evander Kine not
being allowed to play Game one because of the lt
I R stuff. So I was listening to thirty two

(07:20):
thoughts of Elliott Friedman, and there's a lot of conversation
right now about that because you know, the way he looks,
it's like he's been playing for two months. So but
that's just credit to who he is as a player.
I mean, he was good. I think Vasilevsky was dog
water last night. He did not have a good game whatsoever.
And I think they just pounced on him early. And

(07:42):
you know, it's tough when you a team of that
pedigree and that you know that has that winning mentality
when they get up that you know, four goals, you
have a hard time coming back and you're just not
gonna be able to battle your way back. And I
just thought they did a great job there. Physical. This
is a good team when they're healthy and they're still
missing Aaron eck bladeron eckback comes back in a game.
So I was like, why I was kind of bullish

(08:04):
on Tampa. I'm like, well, you know, the decor is
going to be light. They might win one or two games.
They'll win the first two games at home, and then
you know, k Bott'll come back, It'll be a pretty
even series. Now, I'm like, I'm nervous if I'm Tampa Bay,
because you gotta win this game. Because if ek Bad
comes back and he looks like a chuck, I mean,
fuck you. You guys are in trouble right now. Resounding

(08:24):
defeat by them and an emphatic loss.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
It certainly was for gay one six to the final
Winnipeg Jets. By the way, speaking of a commanding lead,
there's a synonym for you. They're completely and control theer
series of two zero over the Winnipeg Jets. That series
turns to Saint Louis on Thursday.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
How how great's that series been? Though it's a two
nothing both, it doesn't feel like a one versus eight. No, no, no,
like it's a great, great series. Like it's dirty, guys,
are you know everybody's getting a little piece of skin
every shift. It's you know, you got the shechn brothers
hitting each other, running each other, trying to kill each other.
It's it's it's uh, it's been a it's been my

(09:01):
favorite series. And you know, the most positive no for
Winnipeg is Connor Helbuck had a great game last game,
and you know, Saint Louis. I think through everything with
the kitchen sink, and I wouldn't be surprised if you
know Saint Louis goes over there and wins the next
two games, and then it's it's a tight series because
it could swing either side right now, and it's it's
been razor thin.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
And a quick thought on the Leafs and the Senators
disappointed that Outawa. I mean they're able to bounce back
and tie it up and then an over ten the
Leafs win. But you still feel this there's a lot
of series left. I don't share your optimism. I hope
Odawa gets back in this thing, but I think the
Leafs are gonna win the series.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Now I call seven.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
My whole my whole East prediction is just getting absolutely
just destroyed. I had descends, the Lightning, the Capitals and
the New Jersey Devils.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
I'm just getting walked like a dog because take some risks,
you gotta take some chat. Well you have to because
everybody's taking care of line.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
But for Toronto, listen, I think game one was horrendous,
horrendous penalty killing by the Ottawa Senators and horrible discipline.
They clean that up the discipline side of it. In
game two, but again they're penalty killed, they made no adjustments,
they got scored it again in like twelve seconds and
then they just kind of listen. Five on five they've

(10:12):
been the better team, but they just you know, when
you kind of it just feels like one of those
years for it's a different Toronto Maple Leafs team than
years past. I think, you know, Craig Berube has really
got them comfortable in tight games and you could just
see there there's more of a comfort level in the
Toronto Maple Leafs in those tight games than Ottawa Centers.
And chalk that up to inexperience. I mean, they have

(10:33):
twelve guys that haven't played in the playoff series, so
you could just see that inexperience creeping through and it's
gonna be an uphill battle. But you know, my question
is how many Toronto Maple Leafs fans are gonna be
at the Canadian entire Center.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
Oh, you're gonna hear gole Leafs go right out of
the game. What do you think the number is? What's capacity?
Nineteen eight something like that.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Oh, I'd just say, like you can give a percentage
like twenty percent do you think forty? Yeah, they're doing
like everything they can to not allow this to happen, and.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
It's virtually an impossibility.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
I feel like that's such an indictment on the team,
and like where they have the rink and if that
is the case, Like what do you think the league
should step in and make sure that you can't sell
those tickets away? Because it's a great question.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
I don't know how you dissuade them, Like, I don't
know how you enforce it, but I'm with you that
it's frustrating.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
If I'm an Atawi Center, it's goin to a diehard
Sence fan.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
I haven't seen my team in the playoffs and also
like Battle Ontario and all these leaves fans around me,
Like it's frustrating, But I have no idea how you
enforce that.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
How do you tell what do you like? Do you
have a questionnaire? Your least fitner sends? People just lost?

Speaker 1 (11:33):
I'm a sense fan, Sure give us great, Yeah, I
got I don't know how you do that.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Yeah, they have all this ship when you're trying to
get a mortgage, so it's like just kind of take
that same give me your you know, social security or
social whatever social insurance number in Canada, and give me
your you know, give me two place of residue utility bills. Yeah,
place of residence to utility bills from the last two months,
pay stubs, and then you could maybe get the game.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
I guess that's true. You find it where these people live. Okay,
this guy's a new market. No, you're not allowed to play, can't.
It's an interesting thought.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Coaching carousel NHL regular season barely over, and also we
got moves being made.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
The Ducks an ails. Head coach Greg Cronin is not returning.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
The Ducks failed to make the playoffs both seasons under Cronin,
but have a lot of good young players, obviously that
mix Zegres among them.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
Cutter go Cha.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Not long after Anaheims announced and the Rangers fire their
head coach, Peter Laviolette. That's why I think we all
kind of felt coming. It leads the Rangers the best
record in the league. Last year they underperformed in a
major way. Of course, you can't fire twenty five players.
You just fire the coach.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Rangers still have a ton of talent.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
So I asked you this, would you rather if you
were a head coach out there, take the job of
the Rangers' sorry New York, major media market.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
They have talent, they just underperformed.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
Or would you rather be the head coach of the
Ducks obviously a smallish media market, Sunshine SoCal you can
grow with these young players, which when you think, is
a more attractive job.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
I listen, No matter how much turbulence here is, it's
the Ranger in New York. It just has to be.
It's such an iconic building to coach in, such a
great legacy to be a part of. Now the teams,
I mean, I don't quite know if I think the
Ducks have a young enough team that would be fun
to come up with. I think they're right on the
cusp would be doing something really good. I'm a coach
and strategically trying to pick a place. It could be

(13:07):
the Ducks because I don't know where the Rangers go
from here and what they do and and what Chris
Sure is going to do there. But you know, for me,
it's it's hard to turn down the Rangers that they
come with Colin.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
And ultimately we'll see who goes this opportunity.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
Sorry, did you see the Bruins? Did you see their
press conference with km Neely. I did not love cam Neely.
They got skewered cam Neely and down Sweeney and cam
Neely lost his like lost his ship, kept it calm
and apparently I think he pulled in one of the
writers into the room after because like the guy didn't
ask a question he liked and I'm like, are.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
You what do you what are you expecting starting to
revoke media credentials, maybe like you're not allowed to come
here anymore if you asked me tough questions like that, what.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
Are you expecting? The just the the ship show it
was this season and not take hard questions, you know.
But anyway, I just saw that. I was like kind
of laughing because cam Neely is like, like the camp
counts are like, come here after the meeting.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
Love Kim Nearly the actor. I'll tell you that we
saw Dan Biosma let.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
Go, Yes, very good, uh Dan Bosma let go? And
Seattle just one season with the Kraken Ron Francis tals
Guy elevated team president, replacing the GMC by Jason Bottrel
Biso want a Cup in Pittsburgh. Tremendous success with Seattle's
HL to me at Coachella, Valley Love Coachella.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
Do you think Bosma got a raw deal here?

Speaker 3 (14:29):
I have no idea what Seattle's doing. It's like they
have They're just it is crazy what they're doing, And
I don't know what direction they're trying to go. Why
is Bilsma the one getting kicked out and then nobody
else when you know, there's a lot of rumors that
when Biosma wasn't the higher that Ron France has wanted
and he didn't want to bring any of that coaching

(14:50):
staff up. So it's interesting to me that this is
what happens in his hand, maybe gets forced and then
Bottrel comes in and I'm just at a loss, you know.
I think it's so tough because we compare them to
Vegas the Golden Knight and as a you know, expansion team,
and Vegas kind of just had their way and no
one really knew what they were doing in GMing and

(15:11):
how to kind of protect players. And I feel like
Seattle just had the raw and of the deal from
the start and they just haven't developed an identity. And
I just think there's top to bottom ownership, there's there
isn't a clear understanding of which direction they want to go,
and unfortunately, like you said, you the head coach is
typically the guy with his head on the chopping block,
and it has been tough sledding the past three years

(15:31):
for head coaches in the NHL. You are absolutely on
borrowed time when you were getting brought in, because it's crazy.
These guys are getting a year to prove themselves and
then they're fired.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
I like the point that E. J.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
Roddick was making with you on NHL ton My first Ship,
which is that Seattle's the victim of Vegas because Vegas
comes in as a franchise a right of the gate.
Bam winning a Stanley Cup within a few seasons of
his infancy at Contender. We all know the rules got
changed as far as towards the expansion draft what kind
of talent you can take? But he goes, as he
just said, there's blood in the water, like there's sharks.
See how they're contented it, Like what are you looking for?
Like what kind of what's your identity? Like what is

(16:06):
the Seattle Crackett? So I think that's part of this
that you said, why can't you be like those guys?
And for Ronnie Francis, you get promoted, and Bottle will
generally the second time you have that kind of a job,
you improved. But I'm with you, what's the identity of
the Seattle Crackett? If I said to a number of
NHL teams, any sport, whatever their identity is, If I
say cracking like, what do you think of I'm like,
there's really nothing that comes to mind right now.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
So it's three lines of second line players. They don't
have a face of the franchise yet. They have not
gotten one. They've kind of tried to have Joy Decord
maybe potentially be that and ascended to that.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
But Matdi Beneers isn't that guy they thought Matti.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
Beneers isn't He isn't He isn't Yetty, I think he
had a down, you know. I just Jerry can't ask
Jared McCann to be that guy. You know, Brandon Montur,
You got these guys they need to face to the franchise.
They maybe thought Shane Wright would be that and it
just hasn't panned out. He's he's developed into a second
third line player, but I don't think he's going to
be a stud that everybody thinks he's going to be
so yeah, it's it's again. It's just they got to

(17:02):
take a swing in free agency, take a gosh darn swing,
and just if it works, it works, and if not,
I mean, just fucking rebuild Cares.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
I'm with you, that's well said the second line players
who there's no stars in that team. One last thought,
Philadelphia head coach Rick Tckett makes too much sense. Leave
Vancouver former Flyer great with Jonesy, Danny Breer, you win
the fans over, talk it to Philly, Let's go.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
I can't. I cannot speak on Tacket because everybody will
consider it bias. But uh, I mean one winning season
in the past, you know, as a head coach one
or two, and the teams were was kind of gifted
to him in Vancouver in terms of everything was in
the right direction for him. I don't know if this
is the guy you bring in a Flyers. I guess

(17:49):
the history of it. I would more see him potentially
wanting to go to like an Anaheim, because you know,
I think he's got family, some family or his his
his wife are significnificant others out there, and I think
it's a like I said, I think Anaheim's on the
cut of being. If I'm a coach, I'm looking at
that team like, hmm, I could really step into something
nice for years to come because you're gonna build with

(18:11):
them versus you know, Philly again it's another team. Like,
you know, you got Meetchkoff, You got a lot of
small guys. Who's the star? Is it Meetchkoff? Is it
can Gravis Sanhaim? You got no goaltending, You got to
address that. They got a lot of time to go
and just talk it. Want to do that and be
a part of that? Or does he want to maybe

(18:32):
be a part of a winning culture. And because he's
done that, you know, he's he's been in the playoffs
twice as a head coach, so I think he wants
to be on a team that's going to go far.
I don't think he wants to go and develop anybody
because he had us in Arizona and it was a
project sort of speak. And then he goes this year
and it's an absolute nightmare with the JT. Miller stuff
and Rutherford has no idea what he's doing coming from

(18:52):
his press conference. Nothing against him, yeah, but like that
press conference, if I'm a Vancouver Canucks man, I'm like, wait,
Quinn Hughes is leaving or we're getting Jack Hughes and
Luke Qes. I'm like, what what seems like? It seems
like Bessent just messing with the stock market right now,
just saying tariffs are on, tariffs are off.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
More tariffs is killing the stocks. Just what a disaster?

Speaker 3 (19:15):
Oh, just they're on, they're off, they're on, they're off.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Hoo.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
That's what Rutherfords scene like. I was like, I came
out of there. I was like, I think we're we're
doing NHL now and as me and Brian Boyle and
we read like you know, they Lauren Gardner read the
tweet about Rutherford what he said in his comments, and
Boiler's like, I'm so confused right now. And I was like,
I don't know what's going on. If I'm Quinn use

(19:40):
him calling, be like, get me the hell out of
here now. So if I would talk, I want to
stay there. I don't think you would.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
No, I'm with you on that.

Speaker 1 (19:46):
University of Denver head coach David Carl by the way
geting a lot of talk Boshing University coach j pandolfha
former Devil of course he's at the top may list
as well, so who knows those guys will get the call?
Coming up next here on NHL inscripted Brad Richardson, it
was an awesome interview and I can't wait to listen
to it.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
Like all of you. It's next here in NHL and scripted.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
Ladies and Gentlemen, our guest this week fifth round pick
to the Colorado Avalanche in two thousand and three, went
on to play eight hundred and sixty nine games for
the Avalanche, the Kings, the Canucks, the Coyotes, the Preds,
and the Flames, and he won a Cup in LA
in twenty twelve. And most importantly, he was my landlord
when I had hives. Brad Richardson, Ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 5 (20:39):
Thanks, I was going on intro jay, Oh my god,
nice thanks for having me on. But yes, you did
have hives and you were in quarantine for about a
month in my guest bedroom.

Speaker 6 (20:47):
So that was a really fun time with me and
my daughter. We loved it. He's sweating like a pig.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
This is tal here.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
I have to interject add, no, one couldn't make it
for the interview, but I have to ask.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
I feel like there's more to this story.

Speaker 4 (21:01):
So far we have we have landlord, daughter and hives,
so there's got to be a little bit more to this.

Speaker 5 (21:07):
I'm thinking, Well, Jay k got traded here, and you
know he's looking for a soft, soft spot to land so,
you know, the good the guy that I am, you know,
I helped him out and took him in and then
he gets sick as a dog. He's got hives going.
I don't know he's so he basically quarantine him in
our guest bedroom to keep him away from my daughter
so she doesn't get he doesn't get her sick and
all this stuff. So he was sweating, and he said

(21:28):
I was trying to sweat him out of there because
I kept it.

Speaker 6 (21:30):
Didn't want to turn the air conditioning on too cool
for him.

Speaker 3 (21:32):
Well, he's the classic dad, you know, he's he you
cannot touch the thermostat and he's got that thing to
a body. He's got it on energy saver and he
just I'm in the bedroom, just leak.

Speaker 6 (21:43):
And a nice sultry seventy five.

Speaker 3 (21:46):
Just down to my plums. But no, let's go back
to the start here a little bit. When he came
into the league with the Avalanche. I know't even talked
about it, but it's crazy. You know, when I came
into the league in San Jose, I had some unbelievable veterans,
some legends of the game. And I mean, but you
had Joe sack Rob Blake, Brunette, Heyduke, Ian Leperier, Patrese Breese,

(22:09):
Bought Dan hy Note, Bob Bugner, Like how was that
as a young guy coming into that locker room?

Speaker 1 (22:15):
It was?

Speaker 5 (22:16):
It was honestly so nerve wracking, Like Joe Sackett goes
my IDOL favorite player. But just going back jay on that,
like I got draft in two thousand and three, in
my first training camp, they signed Slane and Korea added
that to that mix. So my and pat and Patty
wat was there when it was so I literally go,
I couldn't even.

Speaker 6 (22:32):
Speak, couldn't skate.

Speaker 5 (22:33):
I was so nervous, and uh, you know it was
in an error where those guys were a little more
intimidating and not as friendly as I don't think players
are today. You know, everyone was, you know, it was
an old guys league kind of at that point, so
breaking in it was a little heart But I mean
my first year, I actually played. I got called up
kind of like twenty five games into the season, and
then after Christmas, Bobby Bugger I get a place finally,

(22:54):
you know, they give you get Richie, go get a place,
and Bobby Bogner's family goes back to Windsor. So Bobby
Bogner's like, I'm moving in with you. I'm like, Bobby,
you're thirty eight years old.

Speaker 6 (23:03):
I'm twenty. You're not moving in. He's like, oh, I'm
coming in.

Speaker 5 (23:06):
So he moved in with me, and he'd be so
sorry the dogs are barking, but he'd be smoking, Like
no offense, Bobby, but he'd be smoking cigarettes after practice,
and shit, I'm.

Speaker 6 (23:15):
Like, what is going on in this league? So it
was a good eye opening to the NHL.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
Welcome to the NHL, Bob Bogner hacking darts a couple lefties.
But I mean I had that with Colin White my
first year, like was not with his family. And I
don't think people realize that when you get these guys
like older in their career that don't want to bring
their families, don't want to take their kids out of school,
and it's almost like it for these young kids. It's
especially for yourself. You're probably so grateful later on that

(23:41):
you had that experience because it's just like you get
to learn about the league from like the eyes of
a guy that's been through it, like the old war vet.

Speaker 5 (23:50):
Yeah, but it's a good point Jay like for me,
like doing that, it kind of got me more involved
and got me out of my like little ball. You know,
you're nervous and shy, like especially I was my first
you know a couple of years where you didn't want
to say much and Boogie like really helped me out
kind of get out of that mold, like it's okay
to be yourself, It's okay to like he kind of
showed me like how to have a little bit of
fun and go out and go for nice dinners, and

(24:11):
he like really kind of helped me out.

Speaker 6 (24:12):
Him and in the Perrier Dana High Note were really
great with me.

Speaker 5 (24:15):
Joe was great with me, but like take me out
for dinners and Andrew Burnette take me out for beers
and dinner on the road, Like you know, they didn't
have to invite you know, me out as kind of
a young twenty year old, really green rookie, but they
really didn't, and it kind of made me feel good.

Speaker 6 (24:27):
And you know, me and you playing together.

Speaker 5 (24:29):
We tried to do that with young guys as well,
I think, so I think it kind of paid it
forward a little bit and I learned some pretty good
values early on about how hard the league is and
but also how to have fun and balance it.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
Give me, give me quickly, your best other than him
smoking Dart's your best Bob Bogner story.

Speaker 6 (24:47):
Oh, I mean, man, oh man, that's put me on
the spot.

Speaker 5 (24:49):
Jay, Like, he is one of the biggest characters in hockey,
and he's gotta be honest and some of the stuff
I obviously it's like stuff.

Speaker 6 (24:56):
That you know only teammates can know.

Speaker 5 (24:58):
But like he was just he was retiring that year,
so he bought the windsor Spitfires his last year in
the league, you know.

Speaker 6 (25:04):
The Ohl team.

Speaker 5 (25:05):
So so he was like, I'm done, and he wasn't
playing much like Joe Quinville for some reason just kind
of had a distaste for him, but he didn't play much.

Speaker 6 (25:13):
So he was like on you know, the freedom retirement tour.

Speaker 5 (25:15):
So that was a tough balance for me because if
Bob Bugner says do something, you're gonna do it. Yeah,
so I was probably going out a little too much,
and you know, that's that's here, no there. But we
were having a lot of fun as a twenty year
old running around with a guy that played in the
league and was a captain of the Flames and had
a really good career.

Speaker 6 (25:32):
And now he's owning a junior team. It was kind
of surreal.

Speaker 5 (25:35):
And then even the next year when he brought me in,
he was he was I was at we were playing
Detroit in a preseason game, and me and Brad May
He's like, let's go visit Boogie because he was across
the river and windsor So we went in and like,
he's to see him coaching a team now and owning
a junior team was pretty surreal.

Speaker 6 (25:49):
We're in the dressing room.

Speaker 5 (25:50):
I'm only like a year older than these guys, yea,
And we're like doing his speech and he's doing his thing,
and you know, he was telling some stories that you
would tell, like funny junior stories, but I just there
was not one in particular, but I just loved, you know,
how he went about his business and he became you know,
he went on to be a great owner of the
team and good angel coach and yeah, but.

Speaker 3 (26:10):
Yeah, so you go through Colorado, you end up getting
dealt to Los Angeles and that's kind of where the
crux of your career happened. And I mean, was it
Darryl Sutter that was kind of the the catalyst to
that or was it just the perfect mix of guys
because you know, you guys just had such a good

(26:31):
you also had a great dynamic, like the chemistry in
that room. You know, seeing you guys now mostly all retired,
still hanging out, connecting and going on the reunions, it
is really cool to see. But was Darryl Sutter kind
of the guy that put it all together?

Speaker 5 (26:45):
To be honest, like Daryl probably put the final toppings on,
you know, like maybe, but Terry Murray was the guy
there when we all got went there for two or
three years and then he got fired the year we
actually won and we just got off to a really
bad start. But he was kind of the guy that
put the foundation of defense. First Bill from Goalie out,
we protect the house kind of thing, and that's, you know,
that was our mainstay. We didn't give up a lot
and he kind of instilled that in a young group

(27:06):
that we have to play defense if we want to
win and team first. And then you know, he didn't
get a lot of credit because he got fired and
then Daryl comes into one, but they were both did
They're separate things, but that was kind of the foundation,
I believe, and then Darrel came in and kind of
took us over there, took us over the edge.

Speaker 4 (27:22):
Yeah, Brad, I had a couple of quick things about
the Kings. We mentioned Darryl. I'm curious how you describe
his coaching style? Would that would that fly today?

Speaker 2 (27:30):
Artass?

Speaker 4 (27:30):
Can Can he get a job in today's NHL with
the style he's known for?

Speaker 5 (27:35):
Well, he did win the Coach of the Year what
two years ago? So and then got fired the year after.
You know what I mean, it's coaching is crazy, you know.
So Dan Belisma just got fired after one year in Seattle,
Like it's it's such a crazy job. But Darryl Sutter
to me, I mean, he's like a He's like a
grandfather to me, honestly, Like I love him more than anything.

Speaker 6 (27:54):
He's such a good person.

Speaker 5 (27:55):
But he also hate him, you know, Like he he's
so hard and some days you just really want to
fight him. Honestly, and then other days you're like, oh god,
you're such a great person and you give a hug.
But he taught me a lot about digging in and
just kind of how to be like a man, to
be honest. And yeah, he knows hockey. He knows how
to get the best out of his players. He saw,
like in Calgary, he got the most out of his guys.

(28:15):
L A, he got the most out of us. He
has he does wear on you, let's be honest, so
the shelf life, you know, guys like eventually you're kind
of like enough.

Speaker 6 (28:24):
But he does know how to get the most.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
Like his teams in Calgary when they went to the
finals and lost the Tampa I think it oh too.

Speaker 6 (28:30):
They had no business.

Speaker 5 (28:31):
Being there, No, but they just were all characters, love
each other and they played the right way and they
were They actually pretty much won the cup, but they
got screwed on that no goal. But that's how his
teams are. They just they're gritty and he knows how
to gets He knows how to squeeze every every ounce
of juice out of him.

Speaker 4 (28:48):
And just another thing about the Kings, you were there
when a babyface kid named Drew Dowdy came into the league,
they mean a fat faced kid. He wasn't the mayor
of Manhattan Beach just yet. But what was your what
was your early impression of him? And could you tell
right way this this kid was going to be a stud?

Speaker 3 (29:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (29:06):
You know, yeah it was that first year I got
traded there and he came in as a second overall pick,
and I had no clue early who he was, but
he I found out pretty quick he was. He was
a little, like I said, he still has baby fat, right, So,
like he came from a junior situation where and he
played in golf where he like he didn't really eat great.
He never thought about working out, He never did any
of that stuff.

Speaker 6 (29:24):
It was just natural.

Speaker 5 (29:26):
So he came in and honestly, first training camp I
went to hit him, like, fuck this rookie, and I
literally got put on my ass because he's he was
stronger in his skates and thicker than I thought.

Speaker 6 (29:36):
But he just developed that first year. I mean, I
couldn't believe how good he was.

Speaker 5 (29:39):
Like he was our best defenseman at eighteen years old,
so and you knew we were into something special.

Speaker 6 (29:46):
But he's the best guy.

Speaker 5 (29:47):
He's the goofiest guy on the planet, never stops smiling,
always down for a laugh, like one of my really
good friends.

Speaker 6 (29:53):
And there's not too many like him left in the league.
Let's be honest.

Speaker 3 (29:57):
How when he came into the to the dressing room
his first year was he is he the same as
he was then as he is now, like just kind
of you know, so outspoken and and you know in
the media, you see Hi when he's talking about it,
you know the last game, NOI He's like, yeah, we
played a shit game, but we pulled it up. Like
was he like that young and did it kind of
rub anybody the wrong way? No?

Speaker 5 (30:17):
He really, he's never changed to me, Like he never
rubbed anything wrong wrong way because he was He's honest.
But he's like so like not a I don't want
to say a loof because he's super smart, intelligent, but
like he just has his personalities like bubbly and.

Speaker 6 (30:29):
You just want to be around him. So he's like
so innocent, but it's hard, you know what I mean.

Speaker 5 (30:34):
He's just a guy, like fun loving, easygoing guy, like
he just loves life and loves laughing, and he like
I've never seen a guy playing hockey laughing while he's
playing sometimes like he's really he's really intense and petter,
but he loves he's always like messing around and like
he enjoys playing hockey. So really competitive, but like it's
fun to see a guy that really really smiles out there.

Speaker 3 (30:53):
When when you guys won that cup. What's your from
that kind of cup run and the post, you know,
the celebrations afterwards. What was your favorite like celebrity meat
that you got and like and favorite celebrity story from that.
You don't have to get into the details because leave
it for the birds, but like what was your celebrity
link up?

Speaker 6 (31:11):
Like one quick one?

Speaker 5 (31:12):
Like I mean, we had a lot of people hanging around,
like which was really fun and it.

Speaker 6 (31:17):
Was cool to have.

Speaker 5 (31:18):
Like it was cool because you know they come down
and like they want to like say hi, do you
after and it made you feel good and that everyone
was caring.

Speaker 6 (31:23):
About it so much. But probably the one it was
kind of like a weird night.

Speaker 5 (31:26):
We had a copy We had a party and like
just a kind of a friends and family party and
then we were going to this place called Beacher's Madhouse.
It's at the Roosevelt and really cool spot back in
the day and we're walking in.

Speaker 6 (31:37):
We had David Beckham with.

Speaker 5 (31:38):
Us, and he was like we were just shooting the ship,
walking in me and him, and he doesn't They don't
let him in.

Speaker 6 (31:44):
No, I swear to God. So I'm like, what the
hell's going on?

Speaker 5 (31:48):
We walk in like just like we're David Beckham, but
he gets shut down. I couldn't believe it, so that
I had to get David Beckham in the in the
Beach's madhouse.

Speaker 3 (31:55):
That's nice.

Speaker 6 (31:56):
So that was like, you know, feather in my cap.
I'm like, fucky, you know, pretty good tonight. But it
was it was kind of like that.

Speaker 3 (32:02):
It was.

Speaker 6 (32:02):
That was a funny one, but there were so many people.

Speaker 5 (32:05):
I'm actually staying at Roosevelt tonight, so I'm a little
reminiscent kicking in right now.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
I mean, so when we played you guys that year,
I'm I always waited out in the hallway before we
went on the ice before every period. So I'm out
there before we go out for the first period. So
I'm sitting there and I'm getting ready and I see
these two kids walk by me and they're like, hey,
what's up. They're wearing King's jerseys, They're high five, and
I'm like, hey, kids, what's up. So there's nobody else
out there but me and the PR guy. Yeah, all
of a sudden, I see this the dad walk by it.

(32:31):
It's David Beckham and he goes, hey, what's up mate?
And I'm like, oh, what's up? Are you doing?

Speaker 2 (32:36):
Dave?

Speaker 3 (32:37):
He's like, hey, can And this is like a minute
before we go in the ice and the coaches are
about to walk out, and he's like, hey, can I
my kids get a picture with you? And I'm like,
and I'm looking at the PR guy and the PR
guy's like kind of hands up, and I'm like, yeah,
let's do quick, Let's do it quick. So I was
like sitting there, I'm like taking a picture and I'm like,
you don't even realize. That's what's cool about the Kings
is that, like the celebs are such fans and like

(32:59):
these guys that are larger than life characters like Beckah
who was an athlete, or these die hard hockey fans
because of you guys.

Speaker 6 (33:05):
Yeah, no, you're right, that's that's a funny story. But
you would have got in trouble for that. I'm sure
if they would have stop, if Dar would have saw
that you would have been playing.

Speaker 5 (33:14):
Yeah, No, it was cool and obviously it built too,
Like there was always a strong fan base in LA obviously,
but it's just like that momentum of us just grew
it now to what it is and it was really
cool to see.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Yeah for sure, Jay, what uh, what's your take before
we continue kind on you? What's your take on the
Kings and what they're capable of doing and what they're
building right now?

Speaker 5 (33:35):
I really, I mean I think what they're building it
reminds me a lot of our teams from back in
the day. Yeah, like the stingy stingy, like if you
looked at them all year as a whole, not last game.
But really they want to be They have a pretty
strong goaltender in Camps who we both played with.

Speaker 6 (33:49):
When he's on, he's really good.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
Oh yeah, you know so.

Speaker 5 (33:52):
And then their defense is stingy and they're trying to
play that defense. First hound, you hound, you hound, and
then and then let's go when we get a chance.

Speaker 6 (33:59):
But I like the team. They got a lot of depth.
They made some really good moves.

Speaker 5 (34:03):
Like to be honest, like I talked to like some
of their guys when they brought Kuzmenka win.

Speaker 6 (34:07):
I'm like a man, he's a little goofy. I don't know,
you know, and he's.

Speaker 5 (34:10):
Played really well. Yeah, he's kind of fitting perfectly with him.
You know, I don't know how this series is gonna.
I picked them to win because they had home ice
and they put him playing really well. All the oilers
a little banged up and don't love their back end.
But you know it's gonna be a good series because
obviously he saw how good mcdamon and Driyce Ottle are
so well.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
Yeah, I mean they played forty perfect minutes and then
you you can't play much minutes.

Speaker 6 (34:34):
And McDavid gets four points.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
Exactly.

Speaker 5 (34:36):
There was so much day there's someone interviewed, Someone interviewed
what's the deno after? And he was checking McDavid most nights.
I almost fell off my couch. He said to him,
He goes, you held McDavid in check for the most part.
I'm like, he had four points. I don't know if
you guys know that, but.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
That was the question.

Speaker 6 (34:54):
And that's a good that was like, he actually did
play pretty good against him. That's the funny thing.

Speaker 5 (34:58):
You played good against someone he gets four points still, Yeah,
that's that's how good he is.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
If you I remember when we used to play against him,
We're like, if he gets a point, it's like you
won the Stanley Cup, because you're yeah, that's like an
off night for him as well.

Speaker 5 (35:11):
I know that's what the reporter said, Yeah, Helman check
pre you play him pretty good tonight, Like I don't know,
he just exploded in the third and almost took the game.

Speaker 3 (35:19):
But anyway, I know, you gotta get to La so
I got one more And it's more an overarching I
know you talked a lot about the J. T. Miller stuff,
the feud and Van and you're hearing all this stuff
come out of Van now with with Rutherford talking. I mean,
I couldn't even understand a word he was saying in
that last press conference, Like do you think that's more
of a fall on because you know, we talked so
much about the players and how they you know, in

(35:41):
the locker room, But do you think it's a management
issue of not understanding and having a heartbeat of that
locker room and kind of how they mishandled that from
jumping it should have been shouldn't have should have been
addressed years ago yeah.

Speaker 5 (35:54):
I mean, Jay, I was only there for like what
thirty games, But it doesn't take me long to read
a room and know what You've.

Speaker 3 (35:59):
Got a pulse, like you understand the locker room.

Speaker 5 (36:02):
And I told, like literally, I was retiring at the
end of the sea. And when I told what's the
Patrick Galvin, I'm like, I was just being honest. I'm like, man,
I have no skin in this game. I'm not Literally,
if you ask me to come back, I'm not coming back.
I'm done. But I just had something's going on here.
You need some veteran players that this is going to
get out of control. Yeah, straight up with them, and
whatever your ticket is that you can take it for sake,
go fuck yourself, Richie or what.

Speaker 6 (36:21):
I don't care. But I was just being trying to
be honest and trying to help their group.

Speaker 5 (36:25):
And obviously it wasn't a dealt with I just don't
think they put enough veterans around it like to kind
of help, you know, say, like let's settle down here.
Like Queen Hughes is a young captain who shouldn't be
dealing with this stuff, so you know he's got his
hands full just in a Canadian market young player trying
to play his game and trying to be a new captain.

Speaker 6 (36:42):
That's not that's not for him to do.

Speaker 5 (36:44):
So I don't think they just turn him with enough
good people and and then just kind of got out
of control and once it snowballed, it was too much.
The media gets a hold of it and it's over.
So yeah, I think they didn't. The management did mess up. Yeah,
and they lost the number one center, which he's for
a guy that maybe won't ever play in the league again,
you know who.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
Knows and now was saying Quinn he was wants to
play with his brothers.

Speaker 6 (37:05):
Yeah, I mean, what do you think is gonna happen?

Speaker 5 (37:07):
Yeah, they went from you know, almost beating Edmonton last year,
you know now not now I have no like, no
direction where they're going to go.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
Yeah, so quick it happens, how quick it changes?

Speaker 6 (37:16):
Right?

Speaker 4 (37:16):
Yeah, just a quick one for me, Brad. I'm curious
you and and JD have a lot in common. Obviously
good friends, established careers, hives in your house. But one
other thing you also have in common. You are both
married to very talented, accomplished actresses. So I'd love to
hear just first of all, some of the conversations you
two have about your your wives, working in the biz

(37:39):
and just just the life of an actress husband.

Speaker 6 (37:43):
And the biz, the biz, the biz.

Speaker 3 (37:46):
We call it parties.

Speaker 6 (37:50):
I mean, no, it's it's good on them.

Speaker 5 (37:53):
I mean, uh, yeah, it's that's industry is very cutthroat
and hard hard to be in like like like like
like being an athlete.

Speaker 6 (38:00):
It's it's someone's always trying to take your job.

Speaker 5 (38:02):
There's a million people that want to do it, and
for them to both do it for such a long
time and longevity really kind of sums up a career
for me, is.

Speaker 6 (38:10):
Can you do it over and over again consistently?

Speaker 5 (38:12):
So, and they've both done that. They're both amazing people,
and we have a lot of fun together. So they're
fun loving and easy to be around. So yeah, I mean,
I don't want to pump them up too much, but yeah,
you know, you can't give them too much love. But no,
they're both amazing people, and we're pretty lucky. I mean,
we're pretty special people ourselves, right Jay.

Speaker 3 (38:30):
But some sport something special than others. Yeah, we're very
specialpcial guys. But yeah, no, yeah, listen, honestly, thank you
so much. Brad, go get your go to that game
in l A right now, go take the PG whatever
you're doing right now, js X, get over there, get
to the game and Kings super fan.

Speaker 6 (38:52):
Oh I can't wait. I might even throw my standing
covering on me, you know.

Speaker 3 (38:55):
Oh yeah, go get a go, get a little signing,
Go make a couple.

Speaker 6 (38:58):
Should put yours on one time?

Speaker 3 (38:59):
I will, Yeah, I'll put my gut reverse sweat a.

Speaker 6 (39:06):
All right, boys, thanks for having me. I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (39:08):
Jacobsenia, thanks so much for Brad Richards.

Speaker 2 (39:17):
He was awesome.

Speaker 1 (39:17):
So to the following sixty. I'm kicking it to j
D because he saw Warfare. He was raving about it.
And I've heard some great reviews. Talk to me, what
do you got? Yeah, I haven't uh, I haven't seen
a war movie.

Speaker 3 (39:29):
I'm a I'm a big fan of war movies and
you know, Band of Brothers, all that stuff like I
I live for that, the the World War two, all
that Live and Color, all that stuff like three and
all those Netflix series. I love that. And and I
was I went into this with eyes open. It was
it's a director who is a former Navy seal and

(39:49):
he basically did it all off of a memory, all
off of memory of the you know, of the guys
that were in that platoon group. And it was just
amazingly shot. Uh, the way it's so intense, that the
pulse of it, you know, when there's like frag grenades,
it's like you really hear the guys talking. It's just

(40:10):
shot in a way that's so unique. I've never seen
anything like it. And you know, my wife was sitting
next to me. It was like pulse pounding and it
does not stop. It has one of the great opening
scenes of any movie when they have the Franz Ferdinand
call on me and they're all getting ready for their
they're all getting ready to go get deployed, and they're
all just sitting there dancing in a little room and
you kind of get a glimpse of what it's like

(40:30):
in this, you know, you know, being in war and
being in these these areas, in the small simple joys
that you get. And I just thought it was it
was front to back, NonStop action and but just amazing
how it was shot and and and really was like
I was sick to my stomach a couple of times.
The way the way they really open the book and

(40:51):
show you a lot that goes through with these these
missions and things like that. So I loved it. I
recommend it to everybody. I texted my my dad and
my brother right after, and I think I texted you
and I was like, yeah, you got to check this
out because it's it's very very interesting, and I feel
like two guys that appreciate appreciate cinematography like you guys
would appreciate all that stuff and appreciate the little nuances

(41:13):
things that I probably missed, But I think you'd be like, oh,
this is just great how they did it and shot out.
It's not the brutalist, but it's very good.

Speaker 2 (41:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (41:21):
No, I got another review for my buddy Tyler, who
actually texted because you got to see it something No,
Jason Nurse was all over written and directed by my
buddy Tyler texts right like you texted me the next
day's I got to see Warfare. Oh, my buddy, Jason
Niverse is all over it so, written and directed by
Iraq war veteran Raymondoza and Alex Garland. Garland did Civil
War twenty eight days later. A couple of good when
the Civil War came out last year was really good Warfare,
embedding audiences with a platoon of American Navy seals on

(41:44):
a surveillance mission gone wrong in insurgent territory, A visceral
boots in the ground story of modern warfare and brotherhood
told like never before. Rave reviews coming in right now
for Warfare. I'm gonna go see Sinners this Saturday. I
can't wait. I'm accident.

Speaker 3 (41:57):
Oh, I'm going with We're going, let's do it.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
Was also excited. Tell if you've seen Sinners in, are
you actually going this weekend? I?

Speaker 4 (42:03):
Well, I'm going this week for sure. I'm really excited
for Sinners. I was trying to go see it with
a buddy over the weekend. We didn't get around to it.
The reviews are fantastic. I like the Michael B. Cougler combo,
and I think it's pretty Apparently I don't know if
you guys heard about this. Ryan Cougler got like some
sort of cool back end deal on the profits from

(42:23):
this film, Like, I a deal way to do a filmmaker.
I'm not the best person to probably dig deep into
the inside baseball stuff there, but yeah, he got some
sort of sweetheart deal for a filmmaker. And that actually
kind of made me a little more motivated actually pay
to go see it, because you know, Ryan Cougler is
getting part of that money and not just the faceless
corporation that put it out.

Speaker 3 (42:45):
What's what's the what's the thing with with Coogler right now?
That every one of his movies is like, nothing lower
than ninety five percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Speaker 1 (42:54):
Well, the movie opened forty eight million dollars to Tallis
with the box office and the Tomato meter at ninety
eight percent right now and a ninety seven percent audience score.

Speaker 2 (43:02):
It's pretty incredible when the critics rave and the audiences
do as well. You never really find that kind of dichotomy.

Speaker 3 (43:07):
But I don't think he's been under ninety five percent ever.
That's pretty impressive in his movies that he's done. Yeah,
which is pretty wild.

Speaker 2 (43:13):
Ken't to check out Centers. Lou Lamarello, You and ag
were talking about this as well. Islanders legend at least
he was for a few seasons.

Speaker 1 (43:20):
He did get them in back to back playoff appearances
like Final four, which to me is impressive, and he
turned things around. They lost the eventual champion, Tail Bay
lighting the conference finals twenty twenty and twenty twenty one.

Speaker 2 (43:31):
But as so often happens with Lou Lamarello, he turns
things around, they rebuild.

Speaker 1 (43:34):
They had a peak, but they have not won a
playoff series since then. This past season they were a
five hundred team, thirty five thirty five and twelve eighty
two points missed the playoffs, really floundered late. We'll get
to Lou in a second, but what do you do
with this New York Islanders team?

Speaker 2 (43:48):
Patrick wasstill give.

Speaker 3 (43:49):
Me the coach?

Speaker 1 (43:49):
I asked Thomas Saiky. He said, they all like wah
like they like him as a guy. He's Patrick Waugh.
I don't know if he's a great coach. I don't
know if they have the talent to contend. The way
they flopped down the stretch was just awful.

Speaker 2 (43:58):
I mean it was bad.

Speaker 3 (43:59):
Yeah. I just think they're also a team that just
didn't really have any identity left and and you know,
some key injuries, and you didn't quite know where they
were going. They've they just the corps gotten stale. Uh
And I think you know, when the brock Nelson trade happened,
you kind of knew that, you know, they weren't selling,
but because they made a good push late, but it
was just kind of time for Lou and listen, Lose

(44:22):
a great steward of the game, and he's really done
some amazing things. And you know, every person that's played
for him has just some great stories and talks about him.
You know, you hear all the bad stuff about you know, yeah, yeah,
but everybody's got a funny story about Lou. And he
runs it a lot like a military ship. But you know,
I think he would love warfare. Yeah, he would love

(44:42):
warfare exactly. I more get nerve because I think what
John Collins is heading up the search.

Speaker 2 (44:47):
Yeah, you buried him on the area. Go John Collins,
good luck with that search.

Speaker 3 (44:50):
Well, because everybody I'm walking around the network and you know,
my his I'm not a huge history buff and but
I'm not afraid to say something that I hear. So yeah,
but there's a lot of trusted sources that were like
last time John Collins headed up the search, it's kind
of a his ass or something like, I hope he
does better this time, and I hope he has a
better look. But you know, I heard some people, you know,
hinting at maybe Patrick Wah goes up to the GM position.

(45:15):
He could do it, but it's different potentially, but it's
definitely it's different, I think exactly. I didn't love the
way they coach this year, but they're another team with
with a lot of mid tiered players, and they just
you know, you got Barzel and and but in simple
cough and you know in the back end you got
no adopts and Diangel did some good stuff. They when

(45:37):
you have goltending like that, you need to put a
team around it. Uh. I think their decore needs to
get revamped a little bit. They have some big, big, tall,
imposing defenders. I just think it's time to kind of
maybe move on from the pelches and the mayfields and
see what else is out there, and and then the
pullocks and and maybe try to just revamp the roster.
They just need a little little touch up. And and

(45:58):
the last thing I'll say about Lou Lamorello is beards,
Jackie beards for all these players.

Speaker 1 (46:03):
Yeah, he's unbelieve right, he's one of these guys. No officially,
even the Yankees now finally relented after decades and all
the players to have facial hair, but lose that guy
going No, I can't do it little.

Speaker 3 (46:14):
I I more like the beard when I played, because
it it hinders cuts like you'll get less cut from
a sticker, a puck getting hit, And a lot of
the times it kind of helped me. So that was
my You know, I also look horrendous when I've shaved
down to the wood. But you've done it, he's done
a few times. You'll go, you'll go very No. No,
I go here like I'm you know, five o'clock. I

(46:35):
do not go to the wood ever, no chance, no,
no never.

Speaker 1 (46:42):
I'm surprised by that, considering your fanity, you actually want
to have a little bit of a beard cover.

Speaker 2 (46:51):
Hey, he's sassy today, folks.

Speaker 3 (46:53):
That is on the tennis. I made one chirp about
his emmy, it's just coming for me. It's all good.

Speaker 2 (47:02):
Listen. I have to mention cal Clutterbuck all time name team.

Speaker 1 (47:05):
He also retired NHL's all time hits leader foury twenty nine.
First off, I'm calling bullshit on that. How long have
they been calling hits for like Doug Harvey and Boom
Boom Jeffrey.

Speaker 2 (47:14):
Come on. But fine, if you like to say modern
day he was a hitting machine, I'll give him that.

Speaker 1 (47:18):
I'll give Hi Flowers seventeen seasons Wild and Islanders two
or ninety three points over one thousand games, and twenty
points in eighty one Stanley Cup playoff games. I mean,
just an absolute grinder. Cal Clutterbuck brought it every time
out there.

Speaker 3 (47:30):
Yeah, he was one of those you know that line
of him, Suzekis and Matt Martin were great for years.
I got kicked out of a game once because I
need him in the head on purpose. On the I
got healthy. I didn't get healthy, scratch. I had a
bad start to the game. I was in Dallas and
they benched me for a little bit, and then they
put me on the power play in the bumper position,

(47:50):
which is in the middle of the ice.

Speaker 2 (47:51):
Love the bumper position.

Speaker 3 (47:52):
Oh, I set up, I get a scoring chance. We
hit the post, and I'm pissed though, because I'm like,
I just got benched. Lindy Ruff was kind of on
my ass and I'm like, I'm like this, you're putting
me on the power playing the bumper. She's like, I
don't want to be here. And then all of a sudden,
the puck just squirts out to Cal clutterbuoks. So I
go to the boards and I'm like, I'm going to
murder him, and he fell on his knees and I

(48:14):
was like, oh, oh, do I stop or just kind
of keep going? So it kind of slowed down, but
I just drove my thigh into his head and I
felt bad immediately, and then I got kicked out right after,
so I was like my night was done. Funny story.
My wife was there, who was my girlfriend at the time,
with her friend and her friend. I get kicked out
and she's her friend like didn't watch hockey and was

(48:34):
like what happened? And Joe's like, well, you got he
got kicked out. He's not coming back, and she goes, well,
do you think I can? Do you think I can leave?
Then my wife's like no, he paid for the tickets
and she's like no, but I can go right because
he's not playing.

Speaker 2 (48:49):
He's off stay yeah, not the second act. I'll just
leave now.

Speaker 3 (48:54):
So she shot by. She sat by herself the rest
of the game because her friend left.

Speaker 2 (48:58):
And she came.

Speaker 3 (48:59):
So I get kicked out and then I walk out
of the building and my wife's like, I'm You're never
getting tickets from my friends again. They do that. I
just laughing it was just such a funny little but
it was on Calclutterbuck and you could there's a clip.

Speaker 2 (49:10):
On that, there's the video, so talents confirmed me.

Speaker 1 (49:12):
It hits by way, start tracking back in two thousand
and seven. So I'm gonna yeah, sorry, I'm gonna go
pibble this NHL's all time hits later. I'll just say
from the last fifteen years or seventeen years.

Speaker 3 (49:22):
Yeah, there's it's too tough of a measurement, honestly. And
certain buildings, like certain buildings have padded stats like excellent
point buildings. There are buildings I'll go in, I do
not get a hit if I kill somebody in the
middle of the ice, And there's other buildings. If you
touch a guy with your hand, you get you know,
eighteen hits. Yeah, so it's just not I don't I

(49:43):
don't love it. But I could probably say he was
one of the top guys in the NHL in the
past of ten years at finishing his hits. And I mean,
he had a great career and and you know a
lot of his teammates have a lot of nice things
to say about him, and he was very effective at
what he did. So you know, congrats to him in
retirement and hopefully the next chapter is as good as
this chapter was.

Speaker 2 (50:03):
Amen, as we looked close this chapter of their three Stars,
each of us giving our favorite stars so far. Tell
what you got? You kick us off, You're gonna go
the big one here? What do you got?

Speaker 3 (50:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (50:11):
The guy I really like so far in these playoffs
is Kyle Connor. He's not even the best Connor on
his own team.

Speaker 3 (50:18):
That would probably be hellibuck.

Speaker 4 (50:19):
But I mean, this is a guy I've always thought
for a while now has been kind of underrated in
the league. He's one of the most consistent goal scorers
in the league, just had a massive season, finished seventh
in the league and goals, seventh in the league in points,
was a healthy scratch at four Nations, and comes out
guns blazing in the first round, two games, two game
winning goals, making huge plays, and I just think there's

(50:42):
not enough being made of what he does for this team.
You know, they're missing a couple of big guns up front.
Someone has to step up, and as it's been pretty
much the entire season, it's Kyle Connor. He came into
the playoffs with five three career game winning goals in
the playoffs for his career. He has two this week,
so he's almost doubled his career total. And if they

(51:03):
wanted to make quick work of the Blues and have
a little rest while the stars in Avalanche duke it out,
Kyle Connor's gonna have to come up big.

Speaker 3 (51:11):
He's my star for the week.

Speaker 1 (51:13):
Great call, Tel, It's surely he has been great for
the Winni pick Jets so far. I'll go with Matthew
could Schuck two power play goals and assist his first
game after a two month absence. The Panthers are still
the defending Steleing Cup champions. They're trying to make the
Cup off for the third straight time. Everyone talks about
Brady could Schuck. Gives some love to Matthew could Schuck.
He does it all out through on the ice, and
he's certainly starved for Florida as their first star against
the Lightning JD who you got?

Speaker 3 (51:34):
It would be easy to go with the man who
got his first ever overtime playag goal, which is Ovechkin,
Which would be an easy I mean, he was a
beast in that game. But I gotta give a love.
I gotta give some love because He's played two games
and he's been fantastic and he's it's resulted in a
resounding victory in both games. Anthony Stolars, who has been

(51:55):
very very good for the Toronto Maple Leafs Ottawa is
led at five on five in scoring chances and a
lot of inner slot chances and Stollars is hend and
on his last ten games he's been He's been the
guy that the Maple Leafs fans and faithful have been
looking for. Uh he has them poised to maybe do
something special and get to the second round. They're up
to nothing, first time in twenty one years that they're

(52:18):
two nothing in a series in the first round. So
this is interesting. Uh So Anthony Stillars is my pick.

Speaker 2 (52:25):
One can only hope though guy get some point. Ottiwill
come back in the series. We shall see.

Speaker 1 (52:28):
