Iced Coffee Season.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Really, I'm Si Cup and this is Off the Cup.
And if you've been listening to this show, you'll know
that I end every episode with the exact same question,
when is iced coffee season? Well, oh, and it's funny
because asking this question to all of my guests has
(00:26):
turned out to be pretty revealing. So on this New
Year's Day, I wanted to honor the first season of
my podcast, a show that I have not only deeply
needed as a mental health break from the news, but
I've also immensely enjoyed it. I have such gratitude for
everyone who's sat down with me and shared real vulnerability,
real stories, their true selves, lots of laughs, and they
(00:50):
allowed all of us, I think, to get that much
closer to destigmatizing mental health. So today, on a special
Off the Cup episode, my two favorite things, iced coffee
Season and my friends old and new who have shared
this space with me. Oh and uh, listen closely because
we've sprinkled in some new voices guests I'm really excited
(01:12):
about whose conversations you'll hear in early twenty twenty five.
First up, Kelly Rizzo, this is very important to me personally.
When is iced coffee season.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
I think it's when it's hot out.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
I'm not.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
I don't really do iced coffee when it's cold out.
To me, I would say in La like May through October. Okay,
are you a year round kind of guy?
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yeah, that's the wrong answer. It's it's your rend only,
because I mean, I grew up in Boston, right there
was a dunkin Donuts in my high school. It's part
of my culture. And I was drinking iced coffee at
like twelve. I mean, you know, it's a it's a
big it's a big part of who I am. But
I understand, I understand.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
I was drinking at fourteen, drinking ten gallons of hot
coffee at the diners while smoking a pack of cigarettes,
you know what I mean. Like, so yeah, that was
like the extreme version of coffee at a very young age.
And so kidding, but once again, in you know, in
Chicago in the winter, it's cold, like I wanted something warm.
(02:22):
And now there have been a couple of times where
Breck and I we go out to get coffee and
it's hot out and he orders a hot coffee and
I'm like.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
No, what now, like how like, what's wrong with you?
That was Kelly Rizzo. Up next, it's Mark duplus. When
is iced coffee season?
Speaker 5 (02:42):
Well, I have a I have sort of a complicated
relationship with coffee these days. Okay, I've been I'm a
big backpacker and hiker, and I've moved into like green
tea and mint tea when I'm out in the woods,
and so I've tried to bring that thing back into
my life.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Here.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
So I I swore off of coffee about six months ago, okay,
and life is less good basically, it's the answer is
the answer, and I'm making I'm making do. But but
what's fun is like I do treat myself, you know,
like every couple of weeks, I allow myself to help.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
If you were not off them of coffee, what would
you say? I iced coffee all year round. That's the
correct all year round. It doesn't matter where you live.
It's your right.
Speaker 5 (03:38):
We ain't got seasons. We got iced coffee.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
That was Mark Duplas. Here's Henry Winkler. When is iced
coffee season?
Speaker 6 (03:48):
Oh, I would say about ten o'clock any day of
the year.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
That's a correct answer. It's thank you every day. That's
the correct answer. Thank you yay Fast, Wow, Andy Cohen.
When is iced coffee season?
Speaker 6 (04:09):
Well, I mean it's interesting. I think it is.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
I think ice coffee season is in the.
Speaker 7 (04:16):
Summer, but there are many people who would say it's
all year long.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Yes, that is the correct answer. It's year round. I
drink here. I'm a tea drinker, so that's my jam.
Here's Molly John Fast. When is iced coffee season? I'm
not an iced coffee person.
Speaker 8 (04:35):
The thing I like, I know, I'm sorry, we're really
getting into the controversial opinions here. I like iced tea
and lemonade half and half.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Arnold Palmer mm hmm. Yeah, well that's delicious, but it
has nothing to do with iced coffee.
Speaker 8 (04:50):
Yeah, but it's better than ice coffee.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
That's like the wrong answer.
Speaker 8 (04:54):
But iceed coffee is so bitter and not if you
put sweetener in it, Oh no, I don't like sweetener.
I love sweet things, but I don't like sweetener and coffee.
And like, if you put too much milk in it,
it gets really gross because that I saw melts and
it gets too mouthy.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Yeah, but that's why you have to drink it fast.
Speaker 9 (05:14):
But then it's you can do cold.
Speaker 8 (05:16):
It's too cold, and then your teeth I have veneers,
so it's too cold on your teeth. I'm sorry, and
then you're cold.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
You have to put on a sweater.
Speaker 6 (05:27):
Too cold.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
We've written a whole story around the ice coffee.
Speaker 8 (05:30):
Ice coffee, just like one I would have iced coffee
if it had like one or two ice cubes and
it was like room temper coffee.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
So that's the wrong way to drink Its coffee is
the little water. Yeah, that's what I like. That was
Molly john Fast. Here's Brad Garrett.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Iced coffee season. Yeah, twenty four seven for me.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Yeah, that's the correct answer. Congratulations.
Speaker 10 (05:53):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Coffee is my last advice. And you know, I just
I just love it and I have a sweet loos.
Speaker 6 (06:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Another tease for after the New Year, Sherry Shepherd. When
is ice coffee season?
Speaker 4 (06:08):
I don't know because I drink jasmint tea. Okay, I
don't drink I don't drink coffee. I do mushroom coffee
and I do green I do jasmine tea.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
If you were to drink iced coffee, when would the
season be? It would have to be.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Like around now. Well, no, it have to be when
it's hot, right, like around the spring, No, in the
springy summer. I would think ice coffee in the spring
or the summer would be great. Why on earth would
you drink an iced coffee now unless you like meat?
You hot flash, So that would absolutely I'm going to
change my answer to be dead of winter, because that's
(06:44):
when I'm hot flashing the most.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Here's datelines. Josh manquets when is iced coffee season, I'm
gonna say it's the same.
Speaker 11 (06:57):
As wearing white, you know, like interesting like Memorial Day
through Labor Day.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
That's incorrect. It's year round. But that's fine. That's fine.
You can have that.
Speaker 11 (07:08):
I mean, I mean, clearly you can have it before that.
Clearly it's warm after Labor Day. But yeah, I'm gonna
say generally it's when you wear white.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Thomas Sadovski, When is iced coffee season?
Speaker 12 (07:22):
It's always ice coffee season.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Okay, that's the right answer any real friends. For a reason,
The right answer is you're around.
Speaker 12 (07:29):
Year round, year round. Yeah, man, it's always ice coffee season.
They Yeah, listen, it gets warm inside buildings in the
East Coast during the winter.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
And I don't want to sip it. It's not precious.
Speaker 12 (07:41):
Fun fact, I didn't drink coffee until I married Amanda. Really,
I did not drink coffee until I married Amanda, and
her her love affair with coffee was so intense that
I felt like I either had to I had to
figure out what it was all about, or I was
forever going to feel like yeah, or else I was
(08:03):
forever going to feel like I was left out. And
it took me all about two weeks to really get it.
And now I'm.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
It's good, man, It's good.
Speaker 11 (08:14):
It really is?
Speaker 6 (08:15):
It truly is.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Lastly, this is the question we always ask, and it's
very important to me personally, culturally, spiritually. When is iced
coffee season? I don't drink ice coffee. I had I
just don't. I like hot coffee. I like my coffee hot.
So for you, iced coffee season is never.
Speaker 6 (08:45):
Maybe July and August.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Okay, that's an extrrect answer. It's your round, it's your round.
But that's okay. This is this is really the only
area and where we differ. But I love you anyway.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
That's right.
Speaker 7 (08:57):
I think I can handle that.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
That was shep Rose. This is Barry Sunenfeld. When is
it iced coffee season?
Speaker 5 (09:05):
Honestly, it's always ice coffee.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
That's a correct answer. That's the correct answer. You're round, good,
you're around, the correct answer.
Speaker 9 (09:12):
Excellent.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
I knew I liked you. Yeah, I knew I liked
you too. This is former Congressman Adam Kinsingar. When is
iced coffee season?
Speaker 13 (09:23):
Oh, I don't know. I'm sorry. I'm not a big
ice coffee fan. But that said, I've had ice coffee.
I drink it occasionally, and it starts literally right now.
I think it starts the beginning of October. No, I'm sorry,
because iced I'm thinking like lattes at that point. So
ice coffee season summer, and especially now that I'm in Texas,
(09:44):
Like it's like June July, right.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Because July is your final answer, that's.
Speaker 13 (09:49):
Where I'm gonna stick. Yeah, that's kind of a dumb question.
I'll be honest with you.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
I know.
Speaker 13 (09:55):
I'm sorry. We can't be friends anymore.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
We're not friends. We're in a fight. That's, of course
the wrong answer. The right answer. You're round year round? Oh, okay,
year round, But that's okay. I will not be personally
insulted that you don't even like the question. You're lucky
we're friends.
Speaker 13 (10:16):
Yeah, that's right. That's right for now, but you'll get
I'll be in the penalty box.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
That was Adam Kinsinger. This is Congressman Eric Swalwell. Okay,
last question. It's the most important one culturally to me. Yes,
when is iced coffee season?
Speaker 7 (10:32):
Every day?
Speaker 14 (10:34):
I will drink, thank you.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
That's the correct answer. That's the correct answer.
Speaker 14 (10:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (10:37):
And in Europe, like get it together, like what do
you what do we go to Europe on these like
I'll be over there, you know, on a trip with
my colleagues and what's so I have a hack for
you though, and my wife gets so when I do this, So.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Here's what you do.
Speaker 14 (10:55):
You have to create an ice bath. Okay, so you
get the hot coffee because you don't want to put
the ice on the coffee because the water is just
gonna melt on the coffee and that tastes right. So
I will ask any time I'm in Europe, I will
ask them for obviously the hot coffee and then two
cups of ice. So I'm gonna pour very quickly the
hot coffee into the ice bath so to chill it,
(11:19):
bring the temperature down, and then I'm immediately going to
take the ice bath coffee and put it into the
second cup of ice and that's my ice coffee.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
That's good. But doing it that is good.
Speaker 14 (11:31):
It's absurd when you're doing it and you're like spilling
a little bit, and my wife's like, just drink regular coffee, Like,
why do you have to go through?
Speaker 2 (11:37):
No, it's not absurd. What's absurd is not having iced
coffee Europe. That's absurd. Are okay? Coming to your podcast feed?
January eighth, It kisses Paul Stanley when is iced coffee season?
As we both hold up our iced coffees.
Speaker 6 (11:55):
My earliest memories of ice coffee when my mom making
ice coffee.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
Same, And it's so funny that I.
Speaker 6 (12:02):
Woke up this morning and I was in the kitchen
and I just went, I think I'll have some ice coffee. Yes,
And I mean it's just hysterical. There there it is.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Here's Larry Wilmore when is iced coffee season? See?
Speaker 9 (12:23):
For me, it's never iced coffee season. I'm just never well,
why why do I want to make my coffee cold?
Speaker 2 (12:29):
You know, you don't want to sip it, You want
to inject it into your veins. You want to quickly.
Speaker 9 (12:33):
Coffee knows its job. Coffee knows its job.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
You know's it's the wrong answer. The right answer is
you're round. You're round, but you aren't a lot from
a person.
Speaker 9 (12:44):
But all last question, I don't like food trying to
trick me.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
That's something else.
Speaker 9 (12:48):
Okay, So coffee, ice coffee is trying to chick me
that it's iced tea. You're not coffee.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
You are not.
Speaker 9 (12:55):
You know you're not, so stop it. It's like couscou's
trying to pretend it's rice. No, you're not, because you're
you're not rice. Stop trying to act like it. You know,
rice is rice. That's why we have it. That's why
it's there. That's why they had to come to the
term impossible burger, because you know, you're acknowledging the fact
that there's no way that's a burger. So at least
you acknowledge it. Yeah, at least you acknowledge that this
is impossible. Because I agree with you. I don't know
(13:16):
what this is, but you're right, it is impossible. But
I don't like food that's trying to trick me.
Speaker 7 (13:21):
So I believe.
Speaker 9 (13:22):
I believe iced coffee at its core, and it will
admit this is engaged in a deceptive campaign that.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
Was Larry Wilmore. This is Huey Lewis. When is iced
coffee season.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
Iced coffee season?
Speaker 11 (13:38):
Really?
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Yep?
Speaker 11 (13:40):
I think it's all year long.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
You are correct, sir, That is the correct answer. It
is all year long. And the guest who started it
all Josh gadd.
Speaker 15 (13:51):
I mean, do you not see what's in my hand?
Speaker 2 (13:53):
I see it? So when is it? It's all year round.
That's the correct answer. That's the correct answer. It's all
year round season.
Speaker 15 (14:00):
I do two black iced coffees a day and I
have no regrets, and I do mine unsweetened, and I
want it just into my veins.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
I just need it same. I don't want to sip it.
It's not precious. I inject it. If I could inject it,
I would, but yeah I can't, so I'll have it iced. God,
we really are like, we are the same.
Speaker 15 (14:26):
We're twining, We're always twinning.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
And finally something fun for twenty twenty five bridge it Everett.
Speaker 10 (14:33):
Well, I feel like I'm gonna get this answer wrong,
But for me, I think it's always ice coffee season.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
That is the correct answer.
Speaker 10 (14:41):
Yeah, because look I like to you know, you can't
have your hot coffee in the morning, but in the afternoon.
I would have that.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Year round is the right answer, Bridget It's the right answer.
You survived.
Speaker 10 (14:58):
Oh my god, that's a lot of press. Sure, God,
I didn't know that was gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Oh my god, I.
Speaker 10 (15:03):
Got it right.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
It's why we end with it. Okay, how many people
get it right?
Speaker 10 (15:08):
To a lot of people mess that up.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
I just got to know. Is it a world divided?
You'd be surprised how many people get that question wrong,
either by saying I don't drink coffee, which is like
get the fuck out of my podcast, yes, or like
well it's from like June to shut the fuck up. No, No,
it is this. It is one hundred percent year round.
But a lot of people have gotten it right. We
(15:30):
have lots of friends. We have lots of friends. All right,
Coffee Family. Most of those interviews are already in your feed.
You can go back and listen to them. They're all evergreen.
They can be enjoyed anytime, just like iced coffee year round.
But some others are teases for the upcoming year. For example,
(15:51):
our first interview of twenty twenty five is with Paul
Stanley of Kiss.
Speaker 6 (15:55):
I'll tell you the story of this band and Jeane
and I is better than fiction. It really is something
that I can't quite describe.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
We're also adding something new to your feed more me
and my other favorite topic, coffee. We're brewing up a
fun little shot, a little taste tester of Off the
Cup to wake up your week in between interviews, so
