from Colorado.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Does it get? Has it sunk in yet? NBA player
Tristan Da Silva.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
I mean, now that I got this beautiful uniform on it,
you know, it's a little more real, but it's still
love far right now it's I mean, I'm just trying to,
you know, get st and get to work in a
little bit more and then I feel like it'll kick in.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Take us through the emotions of draft night, right. I mean,
it's got to be anxiety, little nerves, excitement, right, your
dreams about to be realized.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
You don't know where you're gonna go. You have an idea,
and then you hear your name called.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
Yeah, I mean, I'm not gonna lie. I was. I
was super chill up until you know, one of my
agents walked by and told me, you know, you're here
going to Orlando, and then all the cameras pulled up
and then all of a sudden, I was like, oh,
it is about it happened. So and then he walked out,
you know, and I already knew it was coming, and
he started saying that iconic line and and then he
(02:13):
said my name, and you know, I just I just
couldn't help but smile and be happy and you know,
definitely a very special woman to share with my family
and my friends and and my agent. So I walked
around the table, hugged everybody, and then walked up there.
It was. It was beautiful.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
What was the draft process like for you? It's long,
it can be arduous.
Speaker 5 (02:34):
Process is probably the operative word. Did anything surprise you?
And I guess what?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Are you happy to sort of be done with as
far as all that, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
For sure. I mean it's a lot of you know,
traveling and working out without actually getting into the gym
and getting practicing and workouts in beforehand. So I feel
like you you you ramp up a lot right before
the workouts start, and then as soon as the workout starts,
it's more you know, recovery and getting to the gym
with the with the actual teams. So that was something
(03:05):
I'm you know, experienced for the first time. And then yeah,
just I mean taking care of your body and making
sure that you're fresh every single day.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
It was big.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
I did all my pre draft stuff out there in
Miami with Excel Sports and and Andrew more in at
Miami Hoop School, so not too far from here. And yeah,
I'm also excited to be here because I know I've
you know, people that I consider family that aren't too
far too far away from here.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Take us through your your background. I think it's it's fascinating.
You've got a very impressive family. You've got Brazilian roots,
You're born and raised in Munich, Germany. But kind of
litterally this is all from magic fans to to kind
of get to know your story.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Yeah, I mean born and raised Munich, Germany. My dad's
from Brazil, from sant Andre, and then my mom's from
uh from Germany, uh a little a little south and south. Yeah,
I mean, so I got that multi multi cultural background
(04:08):
and spend a lot of my summers as a kid
in Brazil and still have family out there and stuff.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
So definitely would go.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
So you'd go to Brazil during the summers, your dad
would go back.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, so what would you do?
Speaker 4 (04:20):
I hadn't been I hadn't been in a while, you know,
but just like a family vacation, you know. And then
then our dad would do all the setting up and
all the you know, connections that he had in Brazil.
He would he would make sure that we go to
some beautiful places, some beautiful beaches, and the food is
obviously fire. I already saw on Instagram like a little
(04:42):
taste testing they all did, and that's coming again. A
lot of the stuff I remember it from back when
I was a kid.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Have you gotten much of Have you gotten feedback? We
have a huge Brazilian fan base, which I think is fantastic.
We'll have, you know, sometimes two three thousand at a game, right.
Have you started to hear from Brazilian Magic.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
Yeah, definitely, I mean through through social media and then
you know, the some of the questions and some of
the media content that we do is for for the
for the Brazilian fan base, and I've heard that the
Orlando Magic have one of the biggest, if not the biggest,
Brazilian fan base. I wouldn't say my Portuguese iss as
(05:23):
fluent as it used to be, to be honest, but
I still feel very Brazilian.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
I'm sure it's better than Jake, So I promise you
this is probably much better.
Speaker 5 (05:32):
We had to go there that I think we need
to recalibrate expectations for the young man because we keep
hearing five foreign languages.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
And I heard you do an interview a few weeks ago.
You said it's more like three.
Speaker 5 (05:41):
Yeah, there's French and Spanish.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Learn it's just still great. Yeah, how I speak.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Spanish, right, I mean I had it in school and
at a little bit, but still three. It's very impreudiously
let's just get that out of the word. Yeah, I mean,
like German and English. I lived in those countries. I
have friends, I have family, I have connections in those countries,
so I'd say I'm fluent Portuguese. I never really lived there.
(06:06):
You know, my dad talks Portuguese to me most of
the time. I responded German, though, because that's that's the
way I grew up. It's yeah, it's a weird dynamic,
but that's how it goes. So it's it's good. It's conversational.
I could, you know, keep a conversation going with somebody.
I understand way more than that I actually can speak
(06:26):
or that I'm you know, speaking normal conversation and then
French and Spanish at in school. But at the time
I had it, you know, it was it was still good.
I liked it. I liked it a lot. But but uh.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
Let's talk football, soccer, the good stuff. German national team
Brazilian national team. If they're playing each other in a
World Cup. I believe it happened last in twenty fourteen.
Who are you rooting for?
Speaker 4 (06:52):
That was ugly?
Speaker 2 (06:53):
And it was this seventh one? Right, yeah, exactly for Brazil, Yes,
it was, I mean like.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
In between so yeah, no, I mean that year I
kind of knew Germany was a little bit ahead maybe,
so I knew what was coming. But I you know,
for for all my German people, I'm the Brazilian. So
when I came into school the next day, everybody let
(07:21):
me hear it.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Yeah they did.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Well, let us know what you like to do. Did
you play soccer? I know you played the trumpet, you
played extraordinary, extraordinarily. Well, what are some other things that
you like to do?
Speaker 4 (07:31):
Right? Yeah, I'd say soccer is one of the things.
You know. I grew up doing a lot. I'm trying
to get back into watching more soccer. I feel like
I feel like that's a big thing that I could
that I can do now that I'm here and now
that you know, everybody says, I have a little bit
more free time than maybe in college when you still
go to school. So I'll definitely do that. And then
(07:54):
I heard about the beautiful golf courses out here, so
that's something I'm definitely trying to pick up and trying
to do some more. I've already been on a couple
of courses, and I really like the vibe of it,
trying to get away from everything.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
So personally, I wish I never played. I wish I
never Yeah, it's a rush rate. You have a chance
to stop right now, No, but enjoy it. This is
the perfect place to do it.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
Cool.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Tell us about your brother Oscar. You played.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
You played two games against each other in college, yah,
which is pretty cool. He was at Stanford, he was
a senior and you were you you were a freshman,
so you have a little bit. You did have those
couple of games. But he's playing for the German national team.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Kind of tell us his story a little bit.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
Yeah, I mean, he's basically the original version. He's the
blueprint of what I did. Pretty much you know, he
was the one deciding to go to college. He went
to Stanford for four years, majored in bio kim and
you know, it was a first team All Pac twelve players.
So he really set that bar, set that standard for
(08:54):
me and kind of showed me, you know, what's possible
with basketball. So he was the first one to go
to college his end of his junior year. That's when
I started getting recruited by by teams in his conference.
And then I ended up, you know, at Colorado where
(09:14):
the academics and athletics are are at a very high
level as well. And yeah, playing against them was super
cool obviously. Uh. And it was during COVID, so I
didn't have any family come out. I didn't have a visit.
I didn't have you know, any connections from from Germany
come to come to Colorado. So having him in Colorado
and you know, spending a night before the game together
(09:37):
in my in my hotel room was was huge.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
It's been really special. Your game.
Speaker 5 (09:43):
I want to talk a little bit about you declared
before your senior year and you went back. What did
you want to what was some of the feedback you got,
What did you want to work on over the course
of your senior year and try to show NBA team.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
Yeah. For like, you know, after I pulled backs, a
lot of the feedback that I had was, you know,
I'm doing a great job getting better every year, and
I should just keep that trend going. So I felt
really comfortable just just going back and sticking to what
I've been doing these past couple of years. And Yeah,
I stuck to that and and stayed consistent, improved my
stats over the over the year. I got another year
(10:15):
of experience under the built. So in general, I feel like,
you know, it's it's I just kept building on what
I've already been doing and you know, developing my body,
developing my game overall, and then making sure that we
as a program win at Colorado, because I feel like
that's also a big thing. That's that's kind of underestimated.
(10:39):
You know, you got to be able to to lift
your team up to the to that to that level
of you know, winning at a high level.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
How much do you love that? Right? Team? Guy?
Speaker 3 (10:48):
You know, you could go out and get your numbers,
but the team suffers. Right, So you went out net
and you had success multiple NC DOUBLEA tournaments, and you
guys won a lot of games at Colorado. When you
look at this team, Magic fans get excited thinking about
how you fit with this group, right with your versatility,
your size, your length of the ability to shoot the basketball,
which we love right almost forty percent from three, all
(11:08):
the things that you might be able to help this
team with.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
Dristan, Yeah, I feel like a bunch of things. You know.
I feel like my IQ, my shooting, my versatility are
some of the things you're already touched on. And you know,
since I'm since I'm such a selfless player, I feel
like I'm ready to do whatever is asked to me.
If that means my role is changing a little bit,
or you know, I got to fill in into a
(11:33):
certain spot more than more than other spots, I'm perfectly
comfortable doing that because you know, at the end of
the day, I'm I just want to win. So that's
that's a big thing for me to to kind of
make sure that everybody in the team is comfortable and
everybody is kind of set for you know, what we
got to do as a team. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Now, Munich, I guess is about six hours from Berlin, right,
it's about there.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Did you know much about the Wagners.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Were they a big deal back in Germany? Even down
im mute, they'll tell you they were, but did you know?
But did you know much about them as they.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
Were probably a bigger, bigger deal in Berlin.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
I could think so, No, But.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
Yeah, I mean by now they're kind of the face
of the national team as well, you know, together with
with the other NBA guys, with Shorter, with Tye. So
for you know, Munich basketball community, I feel like they're
they're big. You know, Mogan drafted, Franz getting drafted obviously
goes through through the news like crazy, and you know,
(12:30):
they represent our country in basketball. So definitely.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Yeah, we're gonna end you with a couple of rapid
if I go ahead, Jake, but we're gonna pull up a
couple of rapid fire questions for you mentioned the food
in Brazil is fire rich, and I believe you.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
I've never been, but I gotta go.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
Don't ask me German or brazil.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
Real favorite cuisine in Brazilian food?
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Do you have a favorite.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Brazilian cuisine within Brazil? Within Brazil a favorite food that
you like, not at but a favorite food like what's
your favorite dish?
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Um?
Speaker 2 (13:04):
There's a lot of good ones, right, I mean we
could pick two or three. You don't have to limit
it to one.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
I'm say. I mean faj is like the the most
basic one. Costella I really like.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Okay, what is that?
Speaker 4 (13:16):
It's like kind of an oxtail is kind of braized beef.
Oh yeah, okay, it's really really good. You're in the
right shore show, hoschool show, Hoschoal obviously is like the
steak steakhouses when they bring out the peginya. That's uh,
that's when I get busy.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
Okay, you're making a lot of fans there. We see
you with the twenty three. Right, you're twenty three years old,
which is great. But why the number twenty three?
Speaker 2 (13:38):
That was a good question.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
People are always intrigued how you end.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Up with them.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
Yeah, I'm sorry, but there's no cool story behind it. Okay,
you know, one of the one of the numbers I
feel like look cool. I didn't want to, you know,
go with something boring that that might look a little weird.
So I just pick twenty three. And I played with
it in college, so I stuck with it.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
I had forty one, that was my number. It did
not look I could see forty one. I was forty
one done.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
I was gonna get somewhere in the nineties, to be
honest with, Do you have a favorite TV show?
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Are you into TV shows? And do you just watch anything?
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Yeah, there's a bunch I watch. I just finished The Gentleman,
I just finished Ripley. I'm rewatching The Last Dance right now. Oh,
very nice. There's a bunch, Yeah, a bunch of shows,
a lot of Netflix.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
What do you want your NBA two K twenty five
rating to be? This is a big thing for guys
coming into the league.
Speaker 4 (14:33):
Yeah, see, I don't. I don't. I don't play two
K like that.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 4 (14:37):
Oh yeah, sorry, sorry, I'm I'm more of a I'm
more of a FIFA guy.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Okay, more and more impressed Germany. Not only am a.
Speaker 5 (14:44):
Brazilian national team or club team.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
How about what club do you?
Speaker 4 (14:49):
Yeah, you can't make me do that. Try. I mean
being from Munich, barn Munich, Barron Munich soccer is probably
the one that resonate the most.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Yeah, you on Twitter, but your social you're on Instagram,
But do you know what's your thoughts on social media?
Speaker 4 (15:04):
Yeah, I'm kind of in and out. You know, I'm
big on, you know, taking time for myself, especially in
these last last couple of weeks, in these last couple
of months, it's been it's been a lot, so a
lot of impressions that I'm taking in and I feel like,
you know, they're more valuable if you're take him in
from you know, the people that you're around. And so
(15:27):
I try to minimize my social media and take all.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Right, last thing kind of tell us from from me
and then go ahead, Jake. But Pollo Bank Carroll, obviously
he's become a big, a big star here, certainly at
an All Star this year. Your thoughts on playing alongside Pollow.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
Yeah, I'm super excited. You know, you already reached out
to me last night. So, you know, seems like a
great guy, uh to to be around with. And I'm
trying to, you know, make his life easier as well.
So I'm I'm coming in trying to trying to complement
his game. And but say same with the other guys,
(16:01):
Same with Franz And yeah, you know, everybody kind of
seems like family, and everybody seems like they got a good,
good vibe, good personality, a good character about them, so
I can't wait to get Tom to get to know
them a little more.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
You're gonna enjoy yourself. Just fine.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Welcome again, think to Central Florida. Magic fans can't wait
to see you get started, have a great couple of weeks.
I know you'll do Summer League as well, and then
we can't wait for the season to get started.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Thanks so much, Christan.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
Yeah, I'm excited. Thank you.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
You got That'll do it for this edition of Magic
Pod Squad
