Speaker 3 (01:15):
The church, in its relationship with society, goes through seasons
because the Church sometimes can relate to society because of
shared values. So if society is valuing something, and how
many know that what society values tends to go up
and down. It's sometimes it's the flavor of the year,
(01:39):
the flavor of the season, the flavor of the decade.
But there are times when the values what society values
and prioritizes is consistent with our values as the Church
of Jesus Christ, hey Man, because we have a set
of values, Christian values that we live out in living
the Christian difference. So there are times that we can
work together, but there are also times when what the
(02:05):
society values most tends to be diametrically opposed to our
values in the Church of Jesus Christ. That's why there
is the Temple, which kept the law and the commandments
and the value system of the nation of Israel. There
is the secular or life outside of the Temple, and
(02:29):
there was no conflict as long it was as it
was not in violation to the values of the Temple.
But then there is something called secular rism, which is
the removal of God from education, the public square, and
the center of society. And then there's something called secularization,
which is the process of moving a society away from God.
(02:54):
So secular and temple were in agreement with each other
just like it is today. Right. We have the life
that we live out of the value system that God
gives us. But we live in a world, right, Amen,
So we are living in the world, but not of
(03:15):
the world. So there are times when what society values
most comes in the conflict with our set of values
as Christians. And that's when we don't convert to becoming
antagonistic to the culture, which I've seen historically, all right,
but we become counter culture. In other words, we provide
(03:40):
an alternative. So this is what the world says about
a particular subject matter or issue, right, And this is
what Jesus, the Church of Jesus Christ, this is what
the Kingdom of God, which is the government of God
with its value system, has to say. And I will
tell you we are very much in a season where
(04:01):
the Church has to be the counter culture. Amen. The
divides are deep in so many different ways. But also
the invasion of cultural ideas and counterfeit values and counterfeit
loves that are being perpetrated on what has been normal
(04:23):
in American society and now pushing to become normalized within
the society is creating an identity, identity crisis in America.
Problem is when that identity crisis enters the church and
we forget who we are. Amen, that's problematic because we
are in Christ and fully identified with Christ. So one
(04:46):
of the things that I've noticed, you know, really, especially
with the emergence of issues that have been perpetrated against
women oppressively so throughout history because of male dominance, male exploitation,
male insensitivity, is this whole idea and fight for equality. Equality.
(05:12):
The feminist movement, which gain national stage seventies into the eighties,
coming out of revolutions sexual revolutions of the sixties all right,
began to push a doctrine in response and sometimes reaction
to this issue of men and women with regard to equality.
(05:36):
But you know, anything taken to the extreme can become error,
even truth. You can have a truth and take that
truth to the extreme and that truth becomes error. And
every lie that's significant and effective is based on some
half truth. But how many know half the truth is
(05:57):
still a whole lie. That's reality. To turn your neighbors
shood that was free, you could take that home. So
I want to engage you in some critical thinking this morning,
because there's something called cognitive simplicity versus cognitive complexity, and
(06:18):
that simply means that we as human beings tend to
gravitate to what's simple and what's easy, as opposed to
what is complex. I've done it. How about you when
you start getting into something and it becomes so complicated
and you say, you know what, forget it. It's too
complex because you have to make a decision as to
(06:40):
whether you're going to exert the effort the time necessary
to dive into the complex. It's easier to gravitate to
what's familiar, to what's comfortable, to what's simple. And the
Bible does not call us to what's simple, especially in
a society that is often and take antagonistic to its values.
(07:04):
How do you live out the Christian difference in a
world that's dominated by things that are diametrically opposed to
the Christian difference. Some have come throughout Christian history and say, well,
come out from among them, be separate saith, the Lord
touching out the unclean things. So let's go live in
the mountains. But Jesus said, go into all the world,
(07:26):
the social order, the cosmos, all of its social institutions
and expressions, and do what preach the gospel and the
loudest preaching you do is not with your mouth. It's
with your life, your life that you live. Amen. So
I want to tackle something, if it's okay, and engage
(07:46):
you in some cognitive complexity. Can we do that? You ready? Okay?
I didn't come to church. I just want to worship Jesus.
I want to empower you to live out that life
after worship, because that's where the rubber really meets the road.
Hey man, you can come in here and get a
(08:08):
spiritual high and a few good and a fix, and
then you go struggle the rest of the week until
your next fix. You can't live like the head and
think like a tale. Turn your neighbors say, he's talking
about somebody you know, don't point. And welcome those of
(08:31):
you who are visiting today who came to be a
part of Baby Dedication. We're glad to have you here.
And while we got you, Pastor Karen said, I just
want to remind you with the children, and I really
appreciate that the congregation is engaged and active because we
need members for the future, and all are making me
(08:51):
feel real good, so please keep it up. Thank you.
My wife Pasa Karen said, enjoy your children while they
are young, because you may not like them when they
grow up. Turn your neighbor, say he's talking about somebody else,
you know. So Genesis one twenty six says, I don't
(09:22):
think you need to look at that, but if you
need to take a look at it. How many got
up to Genesis one twenty six? Good, just checking to
see where you are in this journey. And God said,
let us make man in our image. Can y'all see
me up in the balcony. We're good, Yeah, I don't
(09:42):
want to lose you. We're here all right. Next week
I'm going to sit up there and start the sermon
up there, Lincoln. Oh oh oh, what did I just do?
What did I do? What did I say? Oh? Where
(10:05):
were we? Where were you? See? How you just Genesis
one twenty six? Okay, okay? And God said, let us
make man in our image and in our likeness. That
we're going to unpack that in our invisible war class
because there's a lot that's there. But let us make
(10:28):
man in our image, in our likeness right and man
there Adam, which is twofold. There are times in the
introduction of Genesis, for several chapters it's speaking about an individual,
or it's speaking about collectively humanity. And here let us
make man humanity in our image, in our likeness, and
(10:48):
let them humanity have dominion over all the things that
God created right in the earth realm. And then verse
twenty seven says that God proceeded to make man in
his own image and in his own likeness, male and
female created He them, and God blessed them and said,
(11:09):
be fruitful and multiply. Right are we in the book? Okay?
So it begs a question in this society where we
are from a biblical perspective, are men and women equal?
(11:32):
I think I struck a nerve. I know you were
hoping for me to pass you by, but you prayed
too loud. Are men and women equal? Yes?
Speaker 5 (11:49):
Yes, No they don't.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
She gave up you see how quick? Yes, no they're not.
She said what she wanted to say, yes, what she
wanted to believe, But then she her experience kicked in.
So which is it?
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Well?
Speaker 5 (12:12):
I say yes because I'm a woman.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
But when I think about how the woman was made
from a part of man.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
That's why I said no.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
So because she came out from man instead of directly
from God. She is what second to No, adam I inferior, subordinate, lower, No,
(12:48):
you might as well keep say with equal. Yes, okay, alright?
Are they equal? God made us equal? But the world
in the world, I guess we're not equal. God made
us equal. Yeah, where does he say that?
Speaker 4 (13:10):
Say?
Speaker 3 (13:10):
What's gonna help?
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Now?
Speaker 3 (13:11):
She's asking for help. You're her lifeline. You can't have him.
So God made us equal? Okay? Are men and women equal?
Are you sitting with your wife? No? So you can
say whatever you want. Are men and women equal? I
(13:36):
don't think so, you don't think so what do you think? Well,
you got me in spot? Now you got me there?
Where do I have you?
Speaker 6 (13:49):
Because I don't know what to say?
Speaker 3 (13:54):
So there is what you think? No, or what you felt?
You should say?
Speaker 6 (13:59):
No? Oh?
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Yes, which one you said?
Speaker 2 (14:02):
No?
Speaker 3 (14:03):
They're not equal? All right? But you have some reservations.
It seems you do that they may be equal. Boy,
we could spend some time on your history, find out
what you did. You are trying to hide in plain sight.
(14:23):
There's a problem about you know, sitting up front on
the floor. That's why I gotta go up in the
balcony get them, because they think, boy, I'm so glad
I'm not down there. And it's interesting because no one
wants to take the mic to give their answer. Are
men and women equal?
Speaker 6 (14:42):
I say yes. I think we're co errs with Jesus Christ,
so in that regard.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
That's deep. So we're spiritually equal. Yeah, but what about
in the naturale?
Speaker 6 (15:00):
I think we have different roles, and I think God
has given different responsibilities to demand and to the woman.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
So is one role more valuable than the other?
Speaker 6 (15:15):
No? I believe God has signed the roles that he
wanted us to have, so in his wisdom he assigned
us the appropriate roles accordingly.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
So but but society is saying they don't think it's
so appropriate.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
Society doesn't have much of a clue.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
There are women who want to be in charge? Should
they be? I got attacked by the right flank. Yes,
let's go ahead, I surpass, so go ahead. What does
(15:57):
she does? She say it? What was it?
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Ca?
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Are men and women equal? I feel like you are equal?
What makes you feel that way?
Speaker 4 (16:05):
Human beings?
Speaker 7 (16:06):
What all human beings.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
So you're all you're all human, so you're equal on
a human level. But how that plays out? Is it equal?
How about in the marriage relationship. Let's go there, let's
give it context. You was married. Are you telling me
not to ask you? I'm aa back up a little bit.
(16:38):
So I got a pastor and his wife here, he's
he's he's interested. I wish we could see his faith.
He's like this, waiting to see what she says. In
the marriage relationship? Are men and women equal? Said?
Speaker 7 (16:52):
I believe that we are equal. We both submit one
to another, even though in some certain instances, for sure,
he would be the head that does not make him
unequal to me, the head that does not make him
he is above in certain instances. In certain instances he
(17:13):
submits to me. So I believe that we are both equal.
We live out the scripture as it is printed in
the Bible.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
Okay, So who determines what instances there's equality and there
is headship.
Speaker 5 (17:37):
We are both equal.
Speaker 7 (17:38):
I don't think that there is disharmony in saying, oh
he's above me or I am above him. If we
are submitted one to another, and we are following Christ, God,
determines the outcome of what you know, as we submit
ourselves to God, he is the head ultimately of what
is that we are ultimately submitting to. It's not about oh,
(17:59):
I'm the head or he's the head.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
So why are you God? Well, we are equal. Look
out here, you're in sketchy theological waders. God the head
of Christ, Christ the head of man, Man the head
of woman. I'll take the mic back. See look to
our husband for some help. Help me out here? And
God said it's not good for man to be alone.
(18:29):
I will make him. I just want to see who's
in the bed? What a help me, which means a helper.
And it goes further to say that because there could
not be found any creature compatible with Adam the man,
(18:54):
God had to create one out of the man. Correct
in fact the language in the text, he had to
create someone fit four the man. I'm trying that one
(19:16):
more time, someone fit four the man. So did God
have the woman in mind or the man in mind?
(19:40):
Who did he have in mind both of them? But
there's a question here she was fit for him? But
I'm sure I can get some testimonies in here where
he was not fit for her. Can I get a
(20:00):
witness from anybody out here? Sisters, help me out here?
Says this, how many women have experienced a man who
is not the right fit? Don't point, just raise your
hand up, don't point, just worship well if well? Number one,
(20:23):
the fact that God had to create someone to help
man says that man needs help. I love the reaction.
That's right. So if she is a helper to him,
how can she be equal to him? Isn't that a
(20:45):
subordinate position? Can you be the boss and not the
boss at the same Well, yeah, that's interesting. Can you
be the boss and not the boss at the same time?
I mean, if you are the executive assistant, you're not
the boss. You're not on equal footing making decisions. You
(21:06):
most likely influence those decisions. Yes, but are you on
equal footing? And here's the question. Does God making the
woman a helper subordinate her to the man? See I'm
(21:26):
not sure if you're saying no because you don't want
it to be so, or you're speaking from a place
of deep research and knowledge, does it mean? And I'm
engaging you in cognitive complexity because too often, especially church folks,
we want to be told what to think and what
(21:47):
to do. Because it's easy. Just tell me what I
need to think. Just tell me what I need to do,
God says, Come let us reason together though your sins.
Be a scholar, you know, though your condition, your situation
is tough, maybe chaotic. Let's talk. That's what we're doing.
Come on, give God a good hand. Clap offer Hallelujah.
(22:11):
All right, clap high five with three people. Tell him
I got that word today.
