Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, hey, everyone, thank you so much for joining us today.
No matter where you're watching us from, if you're watching
us at one of our campuses, or you're joining us online.
Maybe you're watching us and joining us later on in
the week because you worked on Sunday, but however you're
worshiping with us today, Thank you so much for joining us.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
We're so excited today because just this past.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Friday night, we had our Men's Ministry, our abundant men
come and gather, and one of the goals I know
amongst our campuses is we challenge our men that a
thousand men come out. And that was actually a big,
big challenge because normally our men's nights will have about
six to seven hundred men, so to.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Ask for a thousand that is a big ask.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
And so we were praying and diligently saying God, amongst
Rancho and Pomona, would you send the men so that
your presence would fall on all of us. And it's
just so incredible because as many of you may have
heard already, but we had one thousand and twenty two
men join us on Friday night, and so it was
powerful and the spirit really fell.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
There were a couple of standout moments.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
One of the standout moments was during worship, we were
singing a song called Hallelujah, and you could hear the
baritone and the chance of the men. I don't know
that there was a single man not singing out loud,
which is pretty rare for a men's night. Usually there's
like a third singing and the rest are just kind
of like this, trying to figure out why their wife
sent them there, you know. So Friday night, though, was
(01:26):
not that case. Every man was singing. I mean, it
was literally a beautiful moment, so much so that we
kept it going and God's presence really fell and the
seconds downout moment was we had Commander May's share and
then he really talked about resilience and leadership, really talked
about the importance of community and having a purpose. And
then by the end of that I came up and
(01:46):
we shared the gospel with all the men that were there,
and when we asked the men to raise their hands
who gave their life to Christ, the hands were so
much so that we couldn't even count them on the spot.
And so from what we could tell, there had to
be close to one hundred men and that raised their
hand and gave their life to Christ. So continue to
pray amongst our campuses that there is a men, that
(02:07):
there is a move amongst our men, and there's also
a move amongst our women. But many of us know
that we need men's leadership in our homes. We need
men to really stand up and take us stand for
the things of God, and take us stand within their
place and the home and the community. And really we
need men that are called by God to move in
our communities, to move amongst our homes. And this was
(02:28):
a fruit of it on Friday night that God is
truly at work in our church and men are truly
stepping up to the matt And so thank you men
for joining us and being there with us. We're praying
that it continues on. And we can't wait to tell
you what we're doing next with the men, because like
we said on Friday night, and we have a saying
here in our church is we don't do life in rows.
(02:48):
We do them in circles. And so our next thing
we're going to be doing with our men is in circles.
And I know our women's brunches coming up, which had
sold out already, but They're also doing their event in
circles as well, because we're a church that truly believe community,
which kind of lands to what we're going.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
To talk about a little bit today.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
If you joined us last week, Pastor Diego talked about
which mindset He just gave us a question, a challenge,
which mindset would you have? And he talked about an
abundant mindset, and he talked about a scarcity mindset well.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
As of coming in this weekend.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
I want to share a part two to that, and
I merely want to drill into not the scarcity mindset,
but truly the abundant mindset. And what I want to
talk about this weekend with you guys is not only
the abundant mindset, but here are church is called abundant,
Living Family Church.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
I think we should talk about that.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
We have a lot of people at all of our
campuses that are pretty new, whether in Pomona or Rancho.
I meet people every single week who say this is
my second time at the church, that we only been
here three months. I think it's important for you guys
to understand where the name of our church comes from and.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Why do we hold to this value.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
You know, there's something that matters, and there's meaning to
a name, whether you start a business one day, or
whether you're naming your dog or you're naming your children.
We always tend to take a lot of time to
think what is behind our name, and so what I
know in our church we could name our church a
million things. Get There's a church called Grace Church, There's
first Baptist Church. There's all these names of churches in
(04:19):
Pastor Diego almost thirty years ago. And I had often
asked them, you know, why'd you say Abundant Living Family Church?
And I guess back in the nineties it was a
hip thing to make your church name as long as possible,
which is why today we just say ALFC because nobody
can remember that long name, so we usually say ALFC.
But I asked them where I was four when you
(04:40):
came up with this, where's a Bunnet Living Family Church
come from? He said, well, honestly, when we were starting
the church, I had truly believed John ten ten that
Jesus gives us life, and he gives us life abundantly,
not necessarily about you living your best life. Those are
things that and there's things that exist, and there are
blessings that come in the King of God. But there's
(05:01):
a difference between living a blessed life and a financially
rich life to living an abundant life. Because you could
be in poverty and still have an abundant life. You
could be in a storm and still have an abundant life.
You could be in a circumstance and still have an
abundant life. And that's what we want to talk about
today is the heart of Christ, why and how he
(05:21):
believes that you should live an abundant life, and why
Jesus believes that through his work on the Cross, through
his work in the resurrection, you and I have access
to an abundant life because it is something that is
promised for every single believer, this abundant life.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
So let's talk about it today.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
So would you join me as we read our scripture
of the day today starting in John chapter ten, and
all of those that are with me, all campuses, would
you join me in standing for the reading of God's Word.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
I'm so excited to read this passage with you today.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
We're going to read John chapter ten, starting in verse
seven today seven to eighteen. I'll read and then we'll
pray it says this. So Jesus again said to them, truly, Truly,
I say to you, I am the door of the sheep,
and all who came before me are thieves and roberbs.
But the sheep did not listen to them. I am
(06:16):
the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be
saved and will go in and out and find pasture.
The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. I
came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down
his life for the sheep. He who is a hired
(06:38):
hen and not a shepherd, does not own the sheep.
He sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees,
and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. He flees
because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for
the sheep. This last verse, I am the good shepherd.
I know my own, and my own know me. Let's
(06:59):
pray today, God, we thank you so much for your word. Lord,
I pray as it goes forth. Father God, may you
continually continually radically change our mind. Lord, may we have
a mind shift to know that Jesus Christ is truly
truly the good shepherd of our life. Lord, And as
long as we are under the covering and the care
of the shepherd and the shepherd's hand, there is no
(07:22):
reason to fear the love of God. And so God,
I may pray that we may lean into your word
today in Jesus name, Amen and Amen.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Let's talk about that.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Let's talk about some statements Jesus makes in what we
just read today. Our church, our verse that we hold to,
which is where we get our name abundant living family.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Church.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Family is the part that we believe that our ministry
should be for the whole family.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
We don't just do good ministry just for adults.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
We don't do just good ministry for teenagers, we don't
do just good ministry for kids. We believe that our
ministry is for the whole family to be ministered too.
So that's that family component, which is pretty simple. But
now we talk about the abundant living part that alfc
that al part. You know, Jesus gives us the phrase
in what he's talking about where Jesus tells the people
(08:10):
of Israel that he is the good shepherd. You know,
there were shepherds that existed all the time and there
was a shepherd that would lay his life down for
a sheep. In other words, there would be shepherds that
it was their sheep. They basically raised them. When those
sheep were born, those shepherds cared and nurtured for those sheep.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Those shepherds looked after those sheep. Those shepherds felt.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
Fed them the warm milk from the mother when they
were just tiny little babies, and they raised them in
their backyard, in their farmstead. And then there were other
shepherds that did it as a career. You would hire them,
and so it would be your estate. These would be
your sheep, and you'd say, hey, how about I pay
you ten dollars a day, or how about I pay
(08:55):
you some land, and you can take care of my
sheep well.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Because they were hired.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
If a wolf would come, if a bear would come,
if robbers would come, then immediately those shepherds they would
scatter because they truly did not care for the sheep.
They cared about the career of what it got paid
for the sheep. So now Jesus steps in and he says,
I am the good shepherd, and I'm the one who
looks after my sheep, and when the thief comes to steal,
(09:23):
kill and destroy. Here's the thief that Jesus is talking
about by proxy. It is the enemy, and the enemy
will do Satan will do whatever it takes to steal,
kill and destroy. But what Jesus is also talking about
this moment is he's talking about false teachers that will
come and twist the mindset of the people and lead
(09:43):
them astray. And so Jesus says, the thieves will come
and steal, kill, and destroy. These are other thinkings, These
are other teachings that are not God's word, that is
not God's teaching. And you and I can look around
today and we can see those teaching exist. Some are
in the church and some are outside the church. They're
the things that will lead you astray. They're the things
(10:03):
that will disconnect you from God. They're the things that
will make you focus outside of who Jesus is and
what his provision looks like.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
And so Jesus says, it is the.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Ultimate goal of Satan to steal, kill, and destroy. It's
a three proxy attack that the Satan will throw at
you and I on a regular basis. And so Jesus comes,
which will get you in a few moments he says,
I come that they may have life, and they may
have it abundantly, an abundant kind of life. You know,
(10:35):
shepherds need someone to walk with them, and the sheep
need a shepherd. A lot of times we think that
sheep are natural animals that just go in rome and
they walk around, but actually sheep have been bred to
have to have an owner, to have to have a master.
You know, if a sheep goes and it lives on
(10:56):
its own, this is what it tends to. I have
a picture is out of ten, a sheep will look
like that's not been cared for. This sheep right here
has over thirty five pounds of hair on it. Thirty
five pounds. What a lot of times sheep will do.
And you'll know the famous passage and psalms that says,
(11:17):
the shepherd leads me by clear waters, calm waters.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Well just look at this sheep.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
If a sheep gets into waters that are heavy and
aren't calm, then that thirty five pounds of fur will
become sixty pounds so fast, because the moment that water starts,
that fur starts soaking up water. It becomes heavy in heavy,
So a sheep needs a good shepherd that won't lead.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
It to busy waters, but will lead it to calm waters.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
And so that's why the good shepherd, Jesus is the
good shepherd, because he knows what we need in times
of our life. And without a shepherd, you and I
end up looking like this.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
This is our life without a shepherd.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
You see, the shepherd is the one who's the one
who cleans, baths, shaves, feeds, leads.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
Sheep on their own don't know how to do those things.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
And so Jesus says, I've come to give you an
abundant life. In other words, he says, I've come to
lead you and not forsake you. I've come to guide
you and not leave you stranded. A lot of times
we're in stranded places, not because that's where the Lord
would have us. It's because we have told the shepherd
I can navigate this life on my own, and we
(12:37):
end up looking like this. You know, a few months ago,
at the top of the year, my wife loves. The
vacation of choice for my wife is she likes cruising.
She likes to go on a cruise ship, and she
likes to just know that we're on the ship and
the boys can just do whatever they want and play
and all these things like that.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
And so this was our first kind of crew.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Who's at the top of this year with both of
our boys because like many of you guys, we ended
up had don't show the picture yet, don't show the
picture yet, Abby, It's okay. It's okay that you guys
saw it. See our boys. It was the first time. Now,
many of you guys, you ended up having COVID babies.
Me and Ashley had a COVID baby named Thomas, and
(13:20):
so you know, when you were bored in quarantined, there
was only one thing you could do if you were married.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
So we ended up having.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Thomas, and Thomas came into our life. And now we
go on one of our first cruises. We've been cruising
before we only had Matthias. So now we go on
this cruise and we're in this you know, many of
you guys been on cruise ships.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
It's the one we go on. It's nice, but the
rooms are tiny.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
And so we're in the room and we have one
queen bed and and and the boys are gonna sleep
with us, and I'm thinking all four of us. And
first of all, I'm not a little guy, so a
queen bed alone is a decent size for me.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
And then my wife.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
My wife's taller than me and she's an athlete, so
she barely could fit on the bed. And then you
in a four year old and a two year old
in the process. We're not fitting on this bed. So
what happens is there's a couch. There's a couch right
next to us.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
And so our our, our.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Our tendant who's helping us out, he says, I could
have I can put a blanket and pillow on the
couch and one of your kids can sleep there. I
think to myself, neither of my two kids are gonna
sleep on that couch. They're gonna gonna I know, they're
not gonna have any desire. So me and my wife agree, Adam,
you're gonna be the one that sleeps on the couch
during this seven day journey.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
This couch is small small.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Okay, length was fine, but the width it's about my
with So just know, if I sneezed that night.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
I was on the floor.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
So I'm there, I'm sleeping the third day. I'm waking
up every day. My lower back pain and stuff like that.
It's just like I'm in pain, and and so sure
enough I happen to go with h We gone this
trip with Pastor Aaron from Pomona. Shout out to Pete
Town at Pastor Aaron where with Pastor Aaron and Erica.
And one of the days, the boys are going over
(15:05):
to play with their daughter's faith and Trinity from their room.
And sure enough I walk into their room and I
see a bed where the couch is, and I go, hey, guys,
what's that? And they go, oh, our attendant showed us
this bed turns into a queen size bed.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
It's a has a bed under and then you.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Lift it and then and then it becomes a queen
size bed.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
And y'ah, our our attendant showed us how to do it.
I thought to myself.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
After day one, my attendant knew I was sleeping on
that couch. He's he came in one day he was like,
how the boys sleep. I'm like, well, I slept on
the couch. He's like, oh, okay, yeah, it's uncomfortable. Blah
blah blah blah. I thought to myself, You're attendant showed
you a whole queen size mattress on your bed.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
So they go, yeah, we'll show you. They take us
up to their room, our room.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
They pulled out to bed and they lift it, and
I'm thinking to myself.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
This is ribbed. You gotta be kidding me.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
For three days I've been sleeping on this count and
there have been a queen size bed this whole time.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
My attendant didn't show me you see the beauty.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
So then the next day when we set it up,
my boys, Now we can show the picture of my boys.
Now my boys wanted to jump on my queen size bed.
They wanted to jump in on my side, because now
all of a sudden, Daddy had all this room on
his side of the bed.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
How many times in life.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Are we living, as Pastor Diego said, in scarcity, in
uncomfortability and lack and hopelessness, all because we've been listening
to the wrong attendants, All because we've been listening to
the wrong shepherds, All because we've been listening to the
wrong teachers, all because we've been listening to the wrong gurus.
(16:55):
Whatever it is, How many times have we been led
astray to a fall way of thinking? Let us stray
to a lack not because this is something the Lord
is leading you to. It's something that God is actually
trying to lead you. He's trying to guide you, he's
trying to bring in the rod. He's trying to help you.
But so many times we say no, I'm gonna continue
(17:16):
to listen to my attendant because that's the voice that
I found on YouTube, that's the voice that my friend
sent me on Instagram. And so far be it for
me to actually open up my word, actually open up
these scriptures and hear from the good shepherd himself. I'd
rather just listen to that person who's maybe tickling my ears,
(17:36):
maybe making me feel warm and fuzzy inside. You know,
when that sheep needs to be shaved for the first time,
it's an uncomfortable process. If you just google shepherd shaving sheep,
those sheep get some nicks, they get some tears, because
why because the sheep is fighting the process of being
taken care of a lot of times we're fighting the.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Process of the Lord who takes care of us. I
want you to see this.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
If I get the whiteboard, I want you to check
this out. You see the Greek word that we see
when we talk about abundant life is parisas and then Zoe,
Zoe is life, Parisas is abundant. So it's important for
us to check this out. I want you to see
this if you're taking notes. You have parissos and then
(18:20):
you have Zoe, which is abundant life.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
And so this is the process.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
And then the statement for parisis because our English word
will just use the word abundant, but that's not necessarily
the real translation of what it's articulating.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
A lot of times if.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
You do a word study of this word parisas in
other scriptures, it's usually used in some type of comparative
nature to what something is and then what it could
be in an expanding, excellent way. And so what happens
is the scripture that we read, John ten ten says
(18:58):
the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, and Jesus says,
I came that they may have parisos zoe abundant life.
So it's a comparative statement. So he gives us the negatives.
So the negatives is to steal, kill and destroy. This
(19:23):
is the enemy. This is his goal to steal, kill
and destroy. Jesus brings in and he says, I come
that you may have an abundant life.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
But what does that mean? Just an abundant living, a
life that's abundant.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
No, Paris saus is usually used as a comparative to
whatever word was preceded, and it's the greatest of that
word that it could ever be.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
So I want you to see this.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
So if the enemy comes to steal, what could be
via abundant nature.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Opposite of theft?
Speaker 1 (20:05):
What could it be? What do you think about it
for a moment. If you're taking notes, you could put it.
I mean, here's one option. It could be if someone
is stealing from you, if they do the opposite, which
now that's what they're saying, is what abundance is. Well,
then then if they're stealing, then they do the opposite.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
What could it be?
Speaker 1 (20:21):
Well, it could be they're giving or they're generous. That's
an abundance. So what it is. It's a comparative term
that says, whatever this thing is, whatever the opposite of
that could be in its greatest form. That's what it is.
(20:42):
And so if the thief comes to steal, and Jesus says,
I come to do the opposite, greatest version of that,
then it means he comes to what give generously?
Speaker 2 (20:55):
What's a generously Well, generous.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
Is when you go to a buffet and someone scooping
for you and you say, can.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
I get a little bit of extra of that? Guawk?
You ever go to chipoli, say can I get some extra? Guawk?
Speaker 1 (21:09):
Sometimes there are people who are scooping regularly to save money,
and then there are people who are generous scoopers. I
like those people because you know when you can tell
when something's generous, because you know what you ought to deserve.
And then they go above and beyond that. That's generosity.
And so Jesus he goes right there, but it doesn't stop.
(21:30):
Then he talks about kill. Well, what's the opposite in
grandeur and abundance than killing.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
Life?
Speaker 1 (21:41):
But how many of you guys know? To kill something
is an active verb. It's an active verb. Killing doesn't
just happen over time. Killing is something that's done in
a moment. You go to cook a chicken that was
alive and you kill it. That was an active work
in that moment. So Jesus is not only doing the
(22:02):
opposite of killing, He is initiating life.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
He's giving life.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
It's something he's actively doing on a daily basis.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
This is something that every single day that you wake up.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
God is actively giving you life, actively sustaining you, actively
speaking to you, actively moving in your life. It's not
like I wonder if he'll show up next week for me,
because people will use that language like I'm just waiting
for God to show up. He's showing up. It's active,
(22:37):
it's not passive. And so then what way happens is
we see that he is giving, giving what life and
then now we overhear destroy.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
What is the opposite abundance form of destroy? That's it.
We got a holler back group today in our audience.
We got builled. Jesus.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
He didn't just say, oh, the enemy comes to steal,
kill and destroy. I'm gonna give you abundant life. No, no, no, no.
He says the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy.
When he uses that word parisos, what he's saying is
he's saying, go back to steal, go back to kill,
go back to destroy, and look at the opposite abundant
end of that spectrum, because that's what I will do
(23:22):
with your life.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
So he says, I will.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
Give you generously when the enemy aims to steal from you,
I will give you an active life on a daily basis.
When the enemy looks to kill things in your life,
and he says, and then when the enemy looks to destroy,
destroy your marriage, destroy your life, destroy destroy your hope,
(23:45):
destroy your grace, destroy your purpose, destroy your calling, Jesus says,
I will build. I don't know about you, but I
want Jesus to be my shepherd because when I'm on
my own, I'm out there for the wolves. I'm out
there for the enemy to come still kill and destroy.
(24:05):
And when I am under Jesus's covering, there is an
abundance of provision that is found in him giving me
life generously and building my life.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
That's an abundant life. So when we say abundant.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
Living family Church, we are saying that we have a savior.
We have the King of Kings and Lord of Lords
that is generously giving you life on the daily basis,
and he is building your life on his rock. Jesus
is the foundation. And so today we got to ask
ourselves how often am I allowing the shepherd to build
(24:44):
my life? You see, I want you to see some
facts over here because I think it's important to note
over here as we see some facts that are in play.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
I have to delete this. I think there we go.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
I want you to see this how often people think
about today, And I think that's no surprise of what
the enemy wants us to do today. Half of all
Americans say that during the last two years they've thought
about death more often. Nearly half think about death at
least monthly, and twenty three percent think.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
About death on a daily basis.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
These are Americans more Gen Zers thirty five percent think
about death every day than any other generation, compared to
twenty nine percent of Millennials, twenty one percent of Gen X,
and fourteen percent of boomers.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
We live in a day and age.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
That if there was a Time magazine cover word, it
would say death. And that's the enemy's actionable verb that
he wants to speak over your life. He wants death,
he wants to steal, he wants to kill, and he
wants to destroy.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
But Jesus wants to do the opposite for your life.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
How much more would people stop living in those facts
and in those opinions if they started leaning into the
good Shepherd, Because when you follow Christ, there is no
other end result than life. That's what Jesus has to offer,
That's what he gives is He gives us an abundance
of life, not only in this life, but the life
(26:13):
to come. Smith Wig Wigglesworth, one of the great Revival preachers,
once said this. He said, this blessed book, being our Bible,
brings such life and health and peace and such an
abundance that we should never be poor anymore. Poverty is
not what's in our bank account. Poverty is what's in
(26:33):
our mindset. It's in a lack of hope. It's in
a lack of dependency on the Lord. It's in a
voice and a mindset that says the end is near.
God will do nothing with my life. I have no purpose.
What am I doing in this life? But you can
find your purpose in Christ, because Jesus is the generous
one who gives life, who wants to build our life.
(26:56):
You see, Jesus gives us another illustration of this what
it looks like to have life and what it looks
like to be living in John chapter four, which is
a famous passage that many of us know, and on
your own you can further read it if you would like.
But Jesus really shows and this is where we'll kind
of end our message off today. I want you to
see this. In John chapter four, verse seven, it says,
(27:16):
many of us know the woman of the well, but
I want to share a little bit more in depth
about that. Today a woman from Samaria came to draw water.
Jesus said to her, give me a drink, for his
disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
The Samaritan woman said to him, how is it that
you would Jew ask for a drink for me, a
woman of Samaria, For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
(27:38):
Jesus answered her, if you knew the gift of God
and who it was saying it to you, give me
a drink, you would have asked him and he would
have given you what living water? Life water. I think
that's a thing today. I think you could buy life water,
living water. The woman said to him, Sir, you have
nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep.
(27:58):
Where do you get that lib water? Are you greater
than our father Jacob? He gave us this well and
drink from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.
And Jesus said to her, everyone who drinks of this
water will be thirsty again. But whoever drinks of the
water that I will give him will never be thirsty again,
and the water that I will give him will become
in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
(28:22):
The woman said to him, Sir, give me this water
so that I will not be thirsty or have to
come water to draw near.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
And at that point you continue to read on your own.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
Jesus begins to start to read her mail, and he
starts to give her some words of encouragement because she says,
I want some of that water, and he actually honestly
starts giving her some of that water. He starts telling her, man,
I could save your life. I could redeem your life.
But right now you got five ex husbands, and he
got a boyfriend you're living with. And she goes, WHOA,
(28:52):
are you some kind of prophet, And then that's where
he begins to tell her. No, if you knew who
was standing in front of you, you would know that
these persons suits you're making in life are lies of
the enemy. God is coming in to give you life,
while the enemy is coming to destroy your relationships, destroy
your marriages, destroy your purpose. And Jesus, if we know
(29:13):
what he says in John ten, that I'm coming in
to build those broken things up.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
I'm coming in to build your life up.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
In that moment, she receives those words, and she goes
out into her city and she begins to preach the
good news of Jesus Christ because she recognized the life
that Jesus had to offer, and she recognized the water
that Jesus had to offer.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
Here's what we got to break down further.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
You see, Jesus makes a statement, he says this in
this moment. He says, if you knew who was standing
in front of you, and you knew that I had
living water to offer you, then you would ask me
for it. Here's what we got to remember, which often
isn't preached about, is that actually wasn't an uncommon statement
in the moment, because what wells were is sometimes wells
(30:07):
came from springs, but a lot of times wells were
reservoirs that were discovered and then basically you drew the
water from that reservoir until it emptied or until it
rained again and filled back up. And so therefore at
some point the well would dry up. You ever heard
that before this well is dried up? Okay, So what
(30:29):
would happen is, which was very uncommon if you were
living in any outskirt city because the Samaritans were not
allowed to go up to Jerusalem and things like that.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
And there's something that was up in Jerusalem.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
There are famous springs that are connected to the mountains
on the north side of Jerusalem that during Jesus's day
never ran dry because there was always snow capped mountains
that were melting and filling up those springs all year around.
(31:02):
So if you were in Jerusalem there were springs where
you could always draw water from. If you were in
Samaria on the outskirts, you had to wait for the
wells to fill up and the reservoirs to get full,
and so if you drew too much water, the well
would dry up. And so if someone walked up to
(31:24):
you and they said, hey, I have access to living water,
what they're saying is I've discovered a spring that is
connected to a source. So they say, hey, hey, hey, hey,
come here, come here, come here, hey.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
On the north side. Over here, there's a spring and
it has living water.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
Because what living water was is it was a spring
and a brook that had a source and the water
was always rushing through.
Speaker 2 (31:56):
So if it was always active in Jesus's day, they.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Would call that living water, because if you and I
drink from living water, or if we bathe in living water,
we don't ever have to clean the water ourselves, because.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
The source is pushing the water. Have you ever heard
that before?
Speaker 1 (32:16):
You ever seen a bear grills documentary. They say, if
the water is rushing, then chances are the water is
clean because it's gone through all of the rocks, and
the rocks have purified the water, and so therefore the
water is living and alive and active and good to drink.
But if water sits in a reservoir, if it sits
(32:39):
there for too long, and you definitely can't bathe where
you drink.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
In a spring, you can bathe and.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
Drink there because the source is pushing the impurities out.
But if you go to a bathtub or you go
on a reservoir, there is a clear you cannot bathe here,
you can only drink, or the opposite, you can only
bathe here, you can't drink here, because that means that
that water is dirty and is full of bacteria. So
(33:08):
you have to ask yourself. So Jesus comes up to her,
and she woman at the well is in her little bathtub.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
She's in her little well. I was afraid this was
gonna break, So we're good. She's in her little well.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
Let me ask you something, how many times can I
bathe in this before I have to empty it fill
it back up? Some of y'all are soussia. Some of
y'all are dirty. Some of you guys might have said three,
four times, pretty nasty. Everyone in here is saying one.
Apparently you can only get one bathe out of here,
just one. What happens if I leave it and I
(33:47):
come bathe here again, Well, chances are over time he's
got some bacteria that's built up, it's got some junk
that's built up.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
What would happen if I kept this.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Water in here and I bathed in here five times,
and then I came the next day and I was
thirsty and I drank from it.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
I wonder how many times we do that in our life.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
That we bathe in areas that we shouldn't be bathing in,
that there's bacteria and areas we shouldn't. That we're drinking
from things we shouldn't be drinking. That we're watching things
we shouldn't watching, That we're listening to things we shouldn't
listened to, and we just keep getting in this bathtub
called life. We keep mixing up our junk in this thing.
That's what Jesus was talking about. That's why he talked
about her dirt. Not to embarrass the woman. He had
(34:32):
to talk about her five ex husbands and her boyfriend
to make her look embarrassing.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
What he was telling her was living water.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
You could bathe without having to empty the water out,
and you could drink from.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
So he's telling her, I have a source.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
That you could sit in that is connected to the
source that every time you're dirty, every time you're unclean,
every time you fall in shore, you don't have to
go do this process of out your bathtub.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
You don't have to do this process of.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
Divorcing your husband and going to getting a new husband.
Because that's what she kept finding herself in was Hey,
when this relationship gets dirty, let's go start.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
A new one.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
And when they and we do that all the time,
when this starts happening, I'm gonna go over here.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
When that starts happening, I'm gonna go over here.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
Because we just think to ourselves, if we just get
in a new bathtub, I'll be okay. So in our lives,
you and I have fifty sixty seventy bathtubs that we
keep refilling, seventy sixty new YouTube superstars. We're listening to
new podcasts, new books, we're learning about.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
You know, I just found out this new thing that
crystals do.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Hey, you know I just found out this new guy
who told me this is what meditation.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
Will do for you. You're just building.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
Bathtub after bathtub after bathtub after bathtub. You're building well
after well after well, and you're putting that junk and
junk and junk where Jesus says, you don't got to
do all that. I am this spring, and I can
give you living water where every time you need to
be cleansed, you could come sit with me. You come
spend time with me. I'm letting my life down for
(36:02):
my sheep because I'm the shepherd. So therefore, if you
want me to care for you, why don't you just
come sit in the spring. So she thought he had
access to some type of water source that she didn't
have to wait and be cautious on whether the reservoir
was full or empty, or the well was full. So
she's saying, if you have access to a spring. Let
me know, and he says, I do. It's called me
(36:24):
you see.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
So the abundant life, let's see if I get out
of here, all right.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
The abundant life is different than having a dead water
life because water that sits in a reservoir is known
as dead water. You've seen that before if you do
water research. There's a difference between drinking spring water to
drinking distilled water. Spring water has minerals that will give
you life, and it gives you electrolytes and other things
(36:52):
like that. Dead water, which is like a disny water
or a smart life water. Those are just distilled waters
where they've taken out everything beneficial for you and it
can't even hydrate you anymore.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
That's also known as dead water.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
We got to ask ourselves in my life, do I
want living water or do I want dead water? Do
I want an abundant life or do I want a
dead life? Do I want one where the enemy can
actively still kill and destroy? Or do I want one
where Jesus will generously build my life up?
Speaker 2 (37:24):
I gotta ask that question.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
And here's what it looks like as we begin to
close today is here's the comparison. We have to ask
ourselves and if you're taking notes, we're gonna end with
this abundant living breeds three things and dead water breeds,
or four things and dead water breeds.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
Four things. You know, abundant living breeds wired to the source.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
What you and I have to do is we have
to become wired to the source. We gotta get connected
to the source. Jesus, you gotta get rid of the bathtubs.
You gotta go to this spring right here, never runs dry,
never runs empty. There's life that you can build your
(38:05):
life on right here. And as many times as you
read it. You can read this book front to back,
and you can read it all over again, and God
will speak fresh new things to you. There's always a
fresh life with God. There's never a dull moment. So
we got to be wired to the source. The next
thing we have to do is you and I have
to be wanting fruitful lives. You know, when things are
(38:25):
connected to water sources, things grow by nature.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
You ever just noticed we had all these rains recently.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
Like Pastor Diego talked about last week, all of a
sudden there were flowers. I didn't know there were flowers
at you're like, where did all these flowers come from?
All of a sudden, there's green where you didn't. We're
just in December, it was all dead. Because when you're
connected to living water, things start to grow. A lot
of times we're not growing. We have dry seasons, we
(38:56):
have seasons we can't hear from God because we're not
getting connected to the How much time.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Are you spending reading this? How much time are you
spending in prayer? How much time are you spending in worship?
Speaker 1 (39:06):
If you're not connected to the source, don't be surprised
when nothing grows.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
All the enemy wants to do is still kill and destroy.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
So if you have any fruit, elements of those things,
just know it's connected to the wrong source. And the
next thing is is we begin to water our families.
That's why we're abundant Living Family Church, because we believe
that when we're connected to the living water source, is
we begin to overflow. That's an abundant life, it's an
overflowing mentality.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
So now it pours into others.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
So we want to begin to water other people with
this thing that Jesus has given us. And then the
last thing is is being connected to living water it
washes away the waste.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
It's a cleansing thing.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
Jesus is living water because every time you feel lucky,
every time you feel dirty, every time you feel broken,
you can sit in his presence and just let him
purify and wash it all away, let it go downstream.
We gotta let it go downstream, or we can hang
with the dead water. Dead water, what does dead water do?
(40:12):
Creates basic desires? Basic desires. Basically, I just need the
perfect person in my life. I just need to have
the perfect things. I just need the perfect money. It's
just perfect, perfect, perfect. Those are those are basic desires.
All these all these things that we just chase. That's materialism,
all these things that we chase that doesn't give us
(40:33):
true purpose and true calling. And it's not that any
of those things are wrong, But if that's what we're
shooting for, if that's what's on our dream board basic desires,
then what happens is we're hanging in dead water area.
Bacteria can go really fast when we have basic desires.
The next thing we do is it starts to breed
some bad habits, and then words that start coming out
(40:55):
of your mouth, that language that starts coming out of
your mouth the things we start watching, all these bad
habits start to come because our desires have become basic.
And then the next thing it does is we start
burning bridges, start burning relationships, start burning people, start burning family,
start burning our spouse. Why because I got some dead
(41:16):
water in my life. I keep sitting and bathing in
the same areas, and I just keep mixing my dirt
with the dirt in the bathtub, and it just keeps
happening over and over and over again. The last thing
it does is it starts breaking relationships. Break your relationships.
You break your relationship with the Lord, break the relationship
with your friends, with your family. Why because we've been
(41:38):
hanging around some dead water for far too long. So today,
like Pastor Diego said, which mindset would you like? He
said that last year. Today, go guy, ask yourself, which
mindset do I want? Do I want abundant living mindset
where Jesus gives life life abundantly and he builds my
life generously? Or do I want to hang around that
(41:58):
mindset that's that dead water, hanging those bathtubs over and
over and over again. What do we want? Do we
want an abundant mindset? Or do we want that dead
water mindset. Let's pray today. God, we thank you so
much for this word.
Speaker 2 (42:10):
Lord.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
I pray as you've spoken to us, Lord, may this
message today sit richly in our hearts. Father God, and Lord,
I pray that you would give us the strength. I
know many people have heard this today and they're thinking
to themselves, I do have some dead water areas. I
have been bathing in these bathtubs, and I really need
to take steps where I step into that living water
where Jesus can wash it all away. God, I pray
(42:34):
that we stay connected to the source being you.
Speaker 2 (42:36):
Lord.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
I pray, Father God, that all these other sources we're
looking at, all these other tubs we're looking at, may.
Speaker 2 (42:43):
We leave those bathtubs.
Speaker 1 (42:44):
Father God, it may the only voice that we hear
in our life is the voice of Jesus, Lord, because
he is the good shepherd and he has laid his
life down for his sheep. Lord, thank you that you
have given us an abundant life where the enemy aims
to steal, kill and destroy. Your motivation has been to
be a generous builder of our lives, and we thank
you for that.
Speaker 2 (43:04):
In Jesus' name.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
Amen, I'll pass it off right now to our campus pastors.
