Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, It's Samantha Taylor. Welcome to Divine Life Transformation Radio Show.
This is where I continue to show you how to
transform your life through the powerful principles in the Bible
and a deep relationship with God. Now, if you're new
to this show, I also have a TV show on
Prey and that airs on Thursdays at eight thirty am

(00:24):
Pacific time or eleven thirty am Eastern Time. And what
I do on that show is I go out into
the wild and talk to you about the Bible. Now,
you might hear some sounds of crickets and things like
that around here because or birds, because I'm on set
and we've filmed recently actually the show I'm going to
talk about today, renewing your Mind through God, and we

(00:48):
actually filmed this in Hawaii, so I have been able
to go to epic scenery to film these episodes in
the TV shows, So you can enjoy some beautiful scenery
traveling around the world while you're hearing some powerful principles
of God. So make sure you check that out as well. Now,

(01:08):
I am going to give you a lot of content
in these shows, which I'm known for doing that. So
instead of having to you know intensely take notes. If
you want to text a word to this number, I
will send you a recap of all these notes straight
to you directly. So text the word renew mind to
this number five eight six five hundred seven three three three,

(01:33):
and I'll give it to you again at the end.
But it's five eight six five hundred seven three three three,
and you want to text the word renew mind, So
if you didn't catch that, I will give it to
you at the end. But I want to talk to
you today about what does God say about renewing our mind?
And why is this such an important aspect of a

(01:53):
successful walk on this earth with God? And when I
say successful, I mean to victoriously walk out the ways
that God talks to us about in the Bible. It's
very clear and multiple scriptures about walking in the ways
of God and not following the ways of the flesh. Well,
the only way that's gonna happen if we're gonna renew

(02:14):
our mind, and knowing what that means from a Biblical
perspective is so critical to truly have transformation. And God
tells us that in order to have transformation, and especially
lasting transformation, you need to renew your mind. I mean, sure,
could you do something for a short period of time.
Maybe you got all fired up for New Year's or

(02:36):
your birthday, or you got some news from the doctor,
and you did a couple of things for like a
week or two, and then all of a sudden, you
go back to all your old habits. Anybody you know
what that's like. I know that I did for a
long time, and there's still things in my life that
I work on. But I can tell you the things
I'm gonna share with you today are literally foundational to

(02:58):
what God did in my life to help me overcome
the level of things that I overcame. And just a
short synopsis. You know, I am a pro at renewing
your mind because through the power of God guiding me
and applying scriptures to my life, I was able to
renew my mind and overcome a drug addiction over twenty

(03:19):
five years ago, alcohol fifteen years ago, and an intense
sugar addiction over ten years ago, which was actually the
hardest to come off of. And I have not relapsed
once on any of those things. That is a praise
be to God for what He's taught me through the
Word of God and normally, if you know anything about addiction,
relapse tends to be a common part of addiction. And

(03:42):
I can tell you by applying the things you're gonna
hear today in this show, and if you watch any
of my TV shows as well, you'll see a lot
of this principles talked about. And the goal here is
to understand what does God talk about renewing our mind?
And where does the scripture talk about this? It's really
all over the place. And I'm gonna show you steps

(04:05):
of how you actually have lasting transformation while you are
renovating how you think. That is what renewing the mind
actually means. We need to renovate our thoughts or we're
not going to change our behavior. Getting motivated for a
minute is only gonna last for a minute. To truly
transform your behavior, you have to transform how you think

(04:26):
and what your thoughts are around that behavior. Because the
current you got you to what you're dealing with right now,
the new you, the one that wants to have this
new behavior, has to actually think like that person, Well,
how are you gonna do that? If you don't know how,
because if you did, then you'd already be doing it, right.
I mean it kind of sounds like a tongue twister,
But it's so true. We think we're gonna have this

(04:47):
new behavior, but yet our thinking matches our old behavior.
So how are we gonna become living this new life
and this new person if we haven't started to renew
our minds? And I know that that's why the Bible
was adamant about this in many places, about transformation and
being renewed in our mind and in the spirit of

(05:08):
our minds, but also walking after the ways of the
spirit and not the ways of the flesh. So when
we are a believer, the Bible tells us that we
are a new creation in Christ, and we have a
new desire and that ability to serve God and to
live how He wants us to live. And I would
read that over and over again and believe it and

(05:28):
know that that's what the Bible says when you're born
again and you're born of God. But what I was
confused of, then why do I still have some of
the cravings for my old behavior that I had before
I met Christ? Now I can say that some of
them did go away. You know, when you become born again,
you're a new creation. But what I've discovered is the

(05:48):
Bible actually talks about this transformation process. It also refers
to it as regeneration by the Holy Spirit. The scriptures say,
and the Holy Spirit is the one that helps you
do this. That there's that process of transforming your mind
and renewing your mind to have transformation, to have lasting change,

(06:10):
and also change in your behavior. So this is where
I'm constantly tying in scriptures to understanding that to change
the way you act and what you do and what
you say and how you think to line that up
with the Spirit of God takes renewing the mind. The
spirit has been made new. You are a new creation

(06:32):
in Christ. You have been made holy, righteous, just, and
pure because of what Jesus Christ has done for us.
He has paid the price. He has taken away the
curse of sin for those that believe in Him and
have accepted Him as their savior and repented of their
sins and have become born again. The Bible says that
he has taken away the power of sin. So when

(06:54):
we look at that and we realize, well, we are
still in this body, So like, how do we process
this when we are still having thoughts maybe of ways
that we lived before we met Jesus Christ or the
things that we're struggling with now, because you are human.
So I'm going to show you the steps of how
you actually have that transformation. And the important thing to

(07:17):
know is that the process of how you get to
that point is the key as well. It has the
first start with becoming born again. The Bible calls it
specifically that which also means born of God. So when
we become that believer and we surrender our lives to
God and we believe that Jesus Christ was crucified, raised
from the dead, and that we need a savior and

(07:38):
that he is the way to heaven, the Bible says
that that means we are born again, and that when
the Bible says we are a new creation in Christ.
Understanding what that means also relative to the transformation process
of our mind. So that transformation process that the Bible
talks about, you know, because you have your mind, will

(08:00):
and emotions, and all your memories of your past, your
behavior patterns you developed to the point of you before
Christ b c. And you know after Christ. So the
key here is to be transformed from those ways of
thinking that have created those habits. So you can see
it change your behavior. And I really feel like this

(08:21):
is something that you know, a lot of churches don't
really teach because it's like, Okay, great, you accepted Christ
as your savior, became born again, you know, start coming
to church and reading your Bible. And that is absolutely
awesome advice. But what about the help in the transformation
process and how you actually renew your mind? How do
you think differently, how do you live differently? How do

(08:44):
you line up with the scripture and what the Bible
talks about. So there are many scriptures that refer to this,
and we're going to start with the one in Romans
twelve one through two. It's a common one that many
people have heard, but it says that you present your
bodies as a living sacrifice, holy acceptable, which is well
pleasing to God, which is your reasonable service. Why reasonable?

(09:08):
Because Jesus Christ died for us. That is very reasonable
for us to offer our body as a living sacrifice.
And I'm going to break this down and do not
be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is
that good, an acceptable and perfect will of God. This
is the only scripture that I have found that has

(09:30):
all of that together prove what is the good and
acceptable and perfect will of God, which is to be
not conformed to the world, be transformed by the renewing
of our mind, to offer our body as a living sacrifice,
which is our reasonable service, that that may prove what
is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

(09:50):
When I read that over and over, I had heard
this scripture, read this scripture, studied it for years. I've
been studying the Bible pretty intensely for about twenty five years.
I knew early when I got saved that I was
going to be in some type of platform, you know,
teaching the Word of God. I just knew that in
my heart, and I was an a student at studying
the Word. And again back then, I was coming off

(10:12):
of drugs. So I dove into the Bible to understand
how do I get this to change my behavior? How
do I understand what the Bible means and understand what
it's saying so I can get it to help me
transform and be renewed in my mind. Now I want
to break down a couple of these words. So when
I say that, that's going back into the original derivative

(10:35):
when the Bible was originally written in either Greek or Hebrew.
So the Old Testament was written in Hebrew and the
New Testament was written in Greek. And when it says
to present your body as a living sacrifice, that word
living means to be among the living. You are lifeless,
you are not dead. You are alive. It says to
be metaphorically full and vigor, to be fresh, strong, efficient,

(10:59):
active and powerful. Why does it talk about a living
sacrifice because sacrifices in the Old Testament when they were
sacrificing animals, and they still did it, you know, in
the New Testament, and they still did it those that
did not believe that Christ was the Messiah. They were
offering this animal as a sacrifice to atone for their sins. Well,

(11:20):
that is an animal that is dead once they you know,
was alive and then it became dead when they sacrificed it. Obviously,
But your bodies are a living sacrifice because you're alive
and wholly acceptable, well pleasing to God. Now, there are
so many scriptures that refer to our body being dead
to the power of the flesh, but alive to God.

(11:43):
And just as we were crucified with him, we are
also alive with him, the Bible says through Christ. Now
this is where the renewal process comes in. The body
does not have control over you, but what you give
it and allow it. And I want to reiterate this.
And if you don't know, oh, these truths in the Bible,
then you can find yourself struggling more with cravings of

(12:05):
the flesh. So when I say that, I mean that.
The Bible says multiple times that Jesus Christ, the price
he paid for us on that cross was he paid
for the sin penalty that is against humans, and that
was taken away. And for those that believe in him
and what he has done, they are able to receive

(12:28):
the result of that, the effect of that. And it
says that we have become dead to sin, that our
body is dead to sin. Well, then how come we sin?
Because we do sin? Of course we are human beings.
But the power of sin does not have to control you.
And this is something that was just foundational to understanding

(12:50):
how to overcome drug addiction. Because I did not go
to any treatment center to deal with the level of
drugs and alcohol that I dealt with, and not go
to any treatment program is not pretty common for that
to happen and not to relapse. But I can tell
you that because I dove so intensely into the Word
of God and studied it so much, and it became

(13:12):
really helping me to guide my behavior and my thoughts
and what I was doing, and felt convicted by the
Holy Spirit. And there's just so much in that. But
when I understood that my body was dead to the
power of sin, that I did not have to listen
to it. Now when I mentioned earlier that you can

(13:34):
actually give over control to your body, so you actually
can allow your body to control you. Even though Jesus
Christ paid the penalty for sin, and the Bible says
we are dead to sin and we are crucified and
resurrected with Jesus Christ for what he did. So this
is the dichotomy of walking on this earth and how

(13:56):
you figure this out as a human you know human body.
You're an eternal spirit living in this body that does
have cravings as well. So even though it's dead to
the power of sin, you're alive. You're a living sacrifice
to God. Why is it living, Because that's where the
sacrifice comes in, that you sacrifice your cravings and desires

(14:20):
for the flesh to have excessiveness over the top of
food or alcohol, or drugs, or drugs at all, but
the things that can turn into something bad, like sex,
and that was designed for the purity of marriage that
God instituted in the Bible. It's a beautiful thing in
the confines of marriage. But when it's all messed up

(14:41):
and perverted and turned into all this craziness and turned
into addiction with pornography and all this stuff going on
in this world right now, now, it turns into something
that it was never intended to be. So when we
realize that we have to learn how to work with
this situation. Here we are this eternal spirit living in

(15:01):
this body that has to learn how do we navigate
this life. How do we live this life and not
let the flesh control us? How do we live this
life and not be dominated by the cravings of the body.
And this is where I know that the level of
drug addiction that I overcame and food addiction. I was
a total glutton and food addict. I would binge on

(15:25):
five thousand to ten thousand calories at a time. It
was just out of control. And then don't even get
me started on the sugar addiction I had, Oh my goodness,
that literally controlled my life, even as a personal trainer.
Now I'm not a personal trainer anymore, but a short snippet,
I was a personal trainer for close to twenty nine
years of my life. And that's what I did, starting

(15:48):
when I was seventeen. I just turned fifty. And I
did that for most of my young adult life but
also most of my life. And I had five personal
training studios in Florida. I had a TV show, radio show.
You know, I'd written a bunch of stuff and all
this good stuff. But the point is is that I
was in this industry for a very long time, yet

(16:09):
I was at the height of my eating disorder. I
was the number one trainer in a gym out of
two thousand trainers before I opened my five studios. And
I don't say that to pump myself up. I say
that to tell you how severe my issues were. Here.
I'm so called the number one producing trainer at this gym,
yet I'm binging on whole cakes in the break room
hoping that nobody catches me. Okay, so this is what

(16:30):
I'm talking about. When when you hear me talk about
these things. I have to remind you of these stories
because sometimes some people look at someone that's living the
life where they're successful now they go, oh, you got
it easy. You know it's not hard for you. I'm like, oh, no, no, no, no,
Let's go back for a minute and look at the
person I used to be and if had not been

(16:51):
for the grace of God and understanding how to apply
these scriptures to my life, I can't even tell you
where I would be right now. So well, that is
where I'm just so excited to be able to bring
this word to you. And again, if you are new
to this show, I do have a Prey TV show
that airs once a week. You can see that on

(17:11):
my Prey channel. I don't have them all on there.
I also have more on my YouTube channel and you
can check that out on my website at Divinelifetransformation dot com.
And I'm going to keep cranking on this, but think
about a friend you want to share this show with,
because it is friends that get invited by other people
like yourself that hears something that you can just share,

(17:32):
like the link at the bottom of the app and
it'll say share this and you can text them a
link of the show and then they'll be able to
listen to it right on their phone. So a way
to think about this is a body sincerely devoted to
God is the living sacrifice. Yet you're living on in
this earth. You're living with cravings of food, you're living

(17:54):
with the temptations all around. But there's a different way
to do it to where it doesn't control you. And
that's what I'm talking about. When we become a believer,
we are not our own anymore. We don't own our body.
We have passed over to the property of God. When
you think about it, and it's pretty amazing to think
about that, that you are in the family of the

(18:15):
creator of the universe, who loves and adores you and
put you here for a specific purpose. That if you
are all jacked up in your flesh, controlling your life
with addictions and you know, temptations, and you're all mentally
distracted because you're hooked on sugar and you can't think clearly,
or you're depressed, just all these kind of things, that

(18:37):
we are not living the way that I believe God
intended us to do when he put us on this earth.
Now it is a challenge, of course, and I feel
like it's quite the challenge that God has given us
that we are this eternal spirit inside of this body.
But this is where we learn. What does the Bible
say how we work on this by calling it a

(18:59):
living sacrifice in that scripture, our former life of serving
ourselves is gone. When we now are God's property, We
now are a child of God. We are no longer
just living this life, serving whatever our flesh wants and
just following to wherever it wants to go. We are
to be raised up to a new life hidden in Christ.

(19:21):
The Bible says, does that mean you can't enjoy food? No,
it doesn't mean that. But when it turns into gluttony
and idolatry and addiction and eating things that are destroying us,
then that is very different. If you're someone that can
have a glass of wine and it doesn't turn into
a problem, and you know, you become an alcoholic, or

(19:41):
you can't stop yourself at a couple of them and
it becomes this god to have it every day. This
is where the obsessiveness comes in and the lack of balance.
Now I can say that when God delivered me of
my alcohol, addiction, and it took some time to work on.
So when I say deliver me, it's not like all
of a sudden I snap my fingers and it all
just I had to work the word of God, pray,

(20:03):
I had to seek him and really do the kind
of things that I'm talking to about. But when I
overcame it, I felt so incredible. I was like, why
would I go back? I originally set a goal to
go one year with no alcohol, and I, you know,
was able to make it, and I felt so incredible.
I'm like, I've got a choice right now. I can

(20:25):
either start drinking again occasionally. And you know, I wasn't
an alcoholic, even though I was a former drug addict.
I did not believe that I was an alcoholic because
I didn't have the same tendencies that I when I
studied what that was. But what I'm saying is, could
I have gone back and had a drink here and there?
I don't know. I wasn't willing to take that chance. Anyway.

(20:46):
I might have and I might not have been, but
I felt so incredible that I didn't care about even
trying that. And now it's been like fifteen years, so
it's just so amazing. So when you go into that scripture,
Romans swell verse too and says, do not be conformed
to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of
your mind. That word conformed means to another's pattern. So

(21:11):
we are not to follow the pattern after this world,
which that is, do whatever feels good to you. Who
cares about the rules or if it's bad, or if
it's destructive, Just do whatever you want. That is the
pattern of the world. And then it says, be transformed
by the renewing of your mind. That word transform actually

(21:31):
means to change into another form, to transform, to transfigure,
and it actually comes from the word of what a
butterfly goes from a caterpillar. Metamorphosis comes from that word
they change from the form of a caterpillar to a butterfly.
They are transforming. So it tells us we are to

(21:54):
be transformed by the renewing of our mind. And that
word renewing means a renewal, renovation, in a complete change
for the better. Well, why would God tell us this?
Because he knows that the only way you're gonna have
transformation is you have to renew your mind. God was
specific about that and then he says, you may prove

(22:15):
what is that good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.
We are not gonna have different behavior living after the
ways of God if we still think the same way
that we thought before we met Jesus Christ. That's why
we need to be in the Word. That's why we
need to be studying the Bible. That's why you need
to be a student of the Word. I encourage you

(22:37):
if you're not studying the Bible yourself, you want to
try to build a habit of every morning, you know,
be reading the Bible. And maybe if it's only ten
minutes at first, and maybe you're so strapped in your
schedule working sixteen eighteen hours a day and family, all
these things, and you're just like, there's this right now.
I don't even know how I'm gonna wrap my head

(22:58):
around that. This is why it's great to have this
app because you can listen to sermons while you're driving,
you can listen to the Bible. Don't make excuses. Make
it something that's every day. This is a way of life.
And I can tell you this is a huge part
of how I ended up where I am today and
being able to stay off drugs and alcohol and my

(23:19):
sugar addiction, and all the areas of following God for
this long and not regressing back because the Bible has
been a way of life for me. Studying the Word
of God has been a way of life. So I
just encourage you to adopt that mindset. And if you
haven't been doing that, start tomorrow. I mean start tomorrow.

(23:40):
Every morning, make yourself. And I say make yourself because
you might not feel like it, you might not feel
like getting up ten minutes earlier. We'll get your stuff
ready the night before, so you don't have to mess
with that. And if you miss the Bible in the morning,
then make yourself listen to it on your drive to
work or as you're getting ready for the morning. I mean,
there's always ways to work around this. So that word

(24:02):
that says be transformed by the renewing of your mind,
renewing also means it actually comes from a root word
which means to cause, to grow up, to make new. Also,
new strength and vigor is given to one and to
be changed into a new kind of life as opposed
to the former corrupt state. I just love studying the

(24:26):
original derivatives of the word because you know, when you
read that you're like, oh wow, okay, So being renewed
in the mind is being caused to grow up to
make new I'm changing to a new kind of life
as opposed to the former corrupt state I was in. Well,
how low. That makes so much sense when you look
at it like that. It also comes from a root
word that means repetition, intensity, and reversal. Okay, this is

(24:52):
where this scripture, I'm not kidding you, has literally transformed
my life. I can say if I look back on
my life and all the things that I've overcome, this
scripture is a huge part of it because I understood
more what this scripture meant by breaking down these words,
and I realize, Okay, the Bible says that it's going

(25:12):
to take repetition, intensity, and reversal. Well, why would that
need to happen? Because your brain is conditioned to all
the old ways you've been doing for the last twenty thirty,
forty fifty years of your life. It's gonna take some repetition,
it's gonna take some intensity, it's gonna take some reversal
to be changed that new kind of life as opposed

(25:34):
to the former corrupt state you were. So this is
where you start taking all these pieces and adding them together.
And this is how my life has been so transformed.
And when God inspired me to start this TV show
and this radio show, I was like, okay, God, and
I prayed about it. I'm like, what do you want
me to talk about? I really saw God about that,

(25:56):
because I did not feel I was to start some
about weight loss or nutrition or even though I had
trained over ten thousand clients and help people lose close
to one hundred tons of fat in my career, That's
not what I felt like God wanted me to do.
So I started praying about it and really seeking what
he wanted me to do. And he said to me,

(26:18):
I want you to teach them how to transform their
life like I've done for you. And if you don't
know the when I talk about God said to me,
I don't hear an audible voice of God. The Bible
says that we will know the voice of God. And
for me, it's an internal knowing like a It sounds
like my own thoughts in my own mind. And again,

(26:41):
not everybody has the same experience in that way. So
I'm leary of saying exactly because I don't know how
it's gonna be for you, I know. For me, it
started off with knowing that something different than a thought
that I would have had, and it was instruction. It
was guidance, and I became more sensitive to the Holy Spirit,

(27:02):
and the more I listen to God, the more in
tune to him I became. And He would confirm it
multiple times when he first started showing me how to
do this, And again, that's a whole nother show, but
I just wanted to mention that point because it's not
like a hello, so mad thought. It's not an audible
voice of God that I hear. It's an internal knowing

(27:22):
and it sounds in my mind like it's my own thought.
Like you know when you have a thought, you have
that thought in your mind. It's similar to that, but
not the same. So that's why when I started the show,
God inspired me that I was to teach the people
that wanted to hear it that show up, which is
you how to transform your life through the Bible and

(27:45):
through a relationship with Him. And that's exactly what the
theme of this show is all about. So sometimes my
radio shows are a half hour, sometimes they're an hour.
I just pull out this content and just start going.
And I'm just gonna talk until I'm done with what
I've got to talk about, and then we will see
where it ends up. So hopefully you'll be able to
hear the whole thing. But I wanted to remind you

(28:06):
that I'm going to give you some steps that i
want you to apply with renewing your mind, and I
will text these to you. So text the word renew mind,
put it all together, and text it to five eight
six five hundred seven three three three. That's five eight
six five hundred seven three three three, and that way

(28:26):
you'll have all these steps. So if you're driving, of
course you can't do this, but if you're able to
grab a pen and some paper, I would really encourage
you to answer these questions as we walk through this.
So this will be a little bit different format because
I want you to actually process what I'm talking about
and think about where do you need to be renewed,

(28:48):
what area of your mind do you need to renew
And we're going to talk this out together. So if
you have a chance to grab a pen, if you're
not driving, of course do that. If you are, you
can always go back and listen to this show. You
might find it on my page. It just depends what
I upload relative to what I have delivered on the show.

(29:09):
Now you can make sure you follow my page because
then you'll know when I upload stuff. So one way
that we change how we think is we get an
understanding of why we would want to or need to change.
When we have more understanding, it gives our brain more
of an ability to do something because it has a
reason why to do something. When we just tell someone

(29:31):
to do something but they don't have an understanding why
they are doing it, the many times that behavior will
not last. Now. I don't know if it was like
this when you were a kid, but I would ask
my mom, Well, she would tell me to do something.
I'd be like, why, you know, why do you want
me to do that? Because I'm your mother, just do it? Well,
I understand that I need to follow authority. You know

(29:52):
you're the parent, but I wanted to know why am
I doing this? And I tell you, I wish you
would have kept the list of these things because she
would always say, I'll tell you when you're older. You
won't understand right now, you're too young. Well, it's not
like she left a list of this and would remind
herself to come back to topics that she told me
that like forty times. So there's all these unanswered questions.

(30:14):
I felt like, well, why am I doing this? So
that just reminds me how I feel like. The brain
is designed in a way. God made the brain this
way to have more understanding and a reason of why
you're doing something. This helps you to have more of
a vigor and reason to do it and stick with it. So, yes,

(30:34):
we are an eternal spirit living in this body, and
we need to focus on our spiritual life, absolutely, but
we are a spirit that lives in a body in
a fallen world. So we need to know how to
successfully live in these situations too. Since we are here.
Life is not all spiritual, and this is why it's

(30:55):
important to be aware of what is going on in
this body that we're in and how do we not
let it control our lives and take us to places
we don't want to go. You are human, so you
are a spirit, yes, but you live in a human
body and you are human. So until we leave this body,
our spirit leaves this body and we are you know,

(31:16):
going home with God in heaven. Then we need to
know how to take care of all the parts of us.
God even tells us to honor our body as the
temple of God. Now I have done multiple shows. I've
actually done over twenty we've filmed so far, and we
did New Zealand, we recently did Hawaii and you know Fijis,

(31:37):
so they keep getting released, you know, little by little.
But I also did one on the body as the
temple of God, and that is one you want to
check as well. So make sure you have your pen
and if you're not able to write anything down, I
want you to stop and think about this answer because
this will be important for you to get this thought
in your mind of what you want to work on,

(31:59):
because the next depths that we're going to go over,
you've got to have that thought of what you're going
to start to renew from and that mindset of what
you want to change from. So the first step to
renew in your mind is one realizing it's something God
tells us to do for transformation. And that's what we
already talked about in the first part of this show

(32:19):
and understanding where the scriptures talk about this. God commands
us to offer our body as a living sacrifice. But
how will we do that we must be renewed in
our mind and not be corrupted to the world. So
we mentioned that part already. The second thing is to
surrender to Him helping you renew your mind. This is
not something you do in your own strength. This is

(32:41):
not psychological mind power where we're directing our mind and
not incorporating God. No, no, no, no no. That has
nothing to do with this. This is about you aligning
with the power of God and moving through these stages
so that you can surrender your life to God, your
mind to God, your thoughts to God, and have Him

(33:03):
help you in this process. It even says in Philippians
one six, being confident of this very thing, that he
who has begun a good work in you will complete
it until the day of Jesus Christ. I love that scripture.
It says he who has begun a good work in
you when you become worn again, you didn't just all
this sudden find Jesus. One day. He found you and

(33:26):
you responded. Those are two very different things. Some people say, oh,
I found Jesus. Well, actually, he found you and you responded.
So this is where we realize that He began that
good work in us and he will complete it until
the day of Jesus Christ. So the third step is
you want to recognize what are you renewing your mind

(33:47):
from now. This is where you got to stop and think.
And you know your life better than anybody, of course,
only you know what you struggle with the most. And
I want you to think about, Well, if I thought
about what area of my life needs to be renewed, like,
maybe it's not drugs or alcohol, or maybe it is
I don't know. Maybe you struggle with pornography, maybe you

(34:08):
have a lust problem, maybe you're struggling with things that
are you know, unspeakable and things you don't want to
talk about. But if you don't start dealing with this stuff,
my friend, it can destroy your life. How many people
have destroyed marriages and families because they did not deal
with their lust problems when they could have renewed their

(34:31):
mind and surrendered their heart to God and possibly get
some help with it if they need help with that,
but not just act like it's not happening and just
ignore it and shove it under the carpet, and then
all of a sudden it destroys your whole family. So
this is where we don't want to ignore this stuff.
So what are some areas that we would need to
renew our mind from? Depressive thoughts, constantly thinking negative, constantly worrying, doubt, fear,

(34:59):
bad during yourself addictions, gluttony again, there's so many things
that we need to renew our mind from. This is
why this is a lifelong process. This is not overnight
and this is a process that we are working on.
This for the rest of our life. And I don't
think that it's ever just completed while you're on this earth,

(35:21):
because once we get all these issues worked out, now
all of a sudden, a new set of circumstances in
life happens. So now we need to deal with not
having pride or envy or maybe those weren't issues before,
but now you've got to make sure those don't creep in.
I mean, it's just a process for the rest of
our life, which is a beautiful thing because we're constantly

(35:42):
surrendering our life to God. So I want you to
think about for yourself, what is it that you need
to renew your mind from. And I know you might
have heard that list and go, man, I got all
gods of problems. I can't even pick one thing. Well,
you need to pick one thing. So what is the
one main thing that you know you really need to
renew your mind from. Again, you're the one that knows

(36:03):
yourself the most. Obviously God knows you more than anybody,
but you know yourself more than anybody else does. So
what is that one area of your life that you
know is not godly and needs to be renewed to
a new way of thinking, a renovation to have a
transformation in that area. Remember, we are renovating. If you

(36:25):
are gonna renovate your kitchen, you say, oh, I don't
like that kitchen anymore. We need an update. We've got
to rip out all that old stuff, have plans for
the new and put them in. The Bible talks about
the old self being renewed in the spirit of the
mind and putting on the new self again. That's another
scripture that talks about being renewed in the spirit of

(36:47):
the mind. So this is where we realize. Okay, so
I know I've said a lot of stuff, but just
take a moment and think, Okay, what is the one
area that I struggle with the most. I am a
worry ward worry all the time. I'm always doubting God? Like,
what is it? I'm not saying that for myself. I'm
just giving you some examples. Do you struggle with depression?

(37:09):
Study after study has shown that people that struggle with
depression tend to have depressive thoughts as well, that they
will take their mind down these rabbit trails. And I
know because I have lived around people that have suffered
with depression and they have also you know, worked on
these things and had more success in those areas as well.

(37:30):
So what is it that you And I'm talking slow
because we got to take a minute to think about this.
What do you need to renew your mind from? Do
you not care about your health? Is that like, well,
I'm gonna die one day, so oh well, I'm just
gonna eat this whole pizza right now or this whole
cake and it doesn't matter. And then you do that
day after day after day, and all of a sudden

(37:51):
you become a Type two diabetic and then you don't
manage your diabetes and then possible amputation happens. I mean,
this stuff is serious. So this is why we want
to say, hmm, what is it that I need to
renew my mind from? Do I have an apathetic mindset
towards taking care of this body. Do you drink too
much alcohol? Do you treat people poorly? Do you have

(38:14):
a bad attitude or an anger problem? Like this is
where you want to just pick one thing and why one,
because I want you to focus on that with the
questions that I'm asked going to ask you next. Now,
the good thing is when you learn how to do
this and apply what I'm talking about, you can actually
apply this to all areas of your life, but do

(38:34):
it one at a time. Now, again, I'm trying to
give you like the last twenty five years of a
renewal process that I've had in my life in like
an hour. So this is not easy to do, but
I wanted to try to give you as much as
I can on this content. So make sure you text
that number I gave. I'll give it at the end
because you'll get this whole list. So hopefully you have

(38:56):
picked that one thing in your mind that you need
to really renew your mind from. The fourth thing is
you want to connect to the reason why you need
to renew your mind from this. Remember I mentioned that
understanding matters because when you understand why you need to
do something and you have a reason, it helps your
brain have more backing or more weight to making that decision,

(39:21):
because if there's no reason, well why would I want
to stop drinking an entire bottle of wine every night,
every hour for every day of my life. There's a
lot of reasons to not do that. So giving yourself
reasons to understand why not to do that. Now, we've
all heard about the word repent. It's not something that
we hear commonly today, although we probably should. But when

(39:44):
you look at the word repent, it actually means to
change one's mind for the better, to think differently, to reconsider.
It also means to change with hatred or disgust of
one's pa sins. Now, that word repent, many times you've
heard in the situation where people say, well, repent for

(40:07):
the Kingdom of God is at hand, you need to
repent of your sins, which is true, which also means
not only just change one's mind for the better, to
think differently, but it also means to have a hatred
for or disgust of our past sins. So I'm gonna
go a little bit deeper into that. But again, the

(40:28):
fourth step is to connect the reason why you need
to renew your mind from this? Well, why would I
want to stop drinking so much alcohol? What is it
doing to my family? What is it doing to my
walk with God? What is it doing to my children?
I don't have children, never was able to have kids.
I'm just speaking out loud for those of you that

(40:49):
have kids. What is it doing to your marriage? What
is it doing to your career? Now you might say, well,
this is a lot of work. Well, hello, yes, it's
a lot of work, and it's worth it because if
you don't take the time and invest in learning how
to renew your mind, this is not going to happen.
It's not going to just fall out of the sky.
You don't just transform just automatically. And this is the

(41:12):
regeneration process that the Bible talks about. So in order
to change your mind for the better, we need to
know what are we changing it from. Why would you
want to change your mind about that situation? So when
we recognize the former ways that we were living that
are not of God and we don't want to live

(41:32):
that way anymore, this is where we have that repentant heart.
That's what repenting is. It's changing. It's not just saying
oh sorry, I did that and not changing any behavior.
Like if someone points out to you that you talk
to them very rudely and they didn't appreciate the attitude
you had when you spoke to them, you're like, oh, sorry,
I don't mean to do that, and you did it

(41:53):
the same thing the next time you talk to them.
There's no repentance, there's no remorse, there's no discuss hatred
for how you're treating people. So this is where just
saying oh I'm sorry, whoops whatever doesn't really matter. That
shows that way if you don't actually change any behavior.

(42:13):
So that's why I just love the Bible. If you
cannot tell, I just love the Bible more than anything
because it is just so spectacular the life lessons that
are in it. So just like this meeting says, it
says feeling the repentance to change with a hatred or disgust.
That is a feeling. We should have a feeling that

(42:36):
we're saying, oh, I don't want to live that way
anymore if I really think about how it's hurting me
or hurting others or hurting my walk with God. This
is why you want to get a reason of why
you want to stop doing that. Now, this is not
about condemnation, my friend. This is about conviction of the
Holy Spirit and him gently guiding you and encouraging you

(42:59):
to write up to another level and your walk with
him to be better, do better, and start to live
up to the things that he has called us to do.
So this is where we start thinking about, well, why
would I even want to change from that? I need
to renew my mind from this old way of thinking.
So this fifth step ties into that, and that is

(43:21):
to get you to really think about the outcome of
the behavior if you keep doing this. So the fifth
thing is what will it cost you in your life
if you continue thinking like this, if you continue living
this way, if you continue having this mindset that you're
not changing it, you're not renewing it. Whatever. That is

(43:42):
the thing that you came up with in the first
where I asked you to come up with one thing
if you continue to do this in your life, what
is it going to cost you? And think about that
just for a moment, because you might not ever listen
to this show again, but I want you to think
about that and stop for a moment. What is it
going to cost me? In this life. If I continue

(44:05):
with this poor behavior, this attitude, this unhealthy mindset, this
way of living, that's not good. What is it going
to cost me? And what is it going to do
to my life negatively or to others that I care about,
or even my calling in this life. In order to change,
we have to be real with ourselves where we are.

(44:28):
If you are in denial and you don't own up
to it, then you can't see it to change it.
That is the part of recovery is admitting where you are.
And unfortunately, most people many times have to hit rock
bottom before they finally do something. I don't know how
many stories I've heard of people that have just hit

(44:49):
rock bottom, lost their career, their job or a career,
their family, their spouse, their kids, and then all of
a sudden, they finally do something about their problems. Don't
let it get to that. There's a reason why you're
hearing this show. Maybe it's because God is gently convicting
you to do something about this. So let's say that

(45:12):
you wrote down that you want to take better care
of your body, and you just have an apathetic mindset
that you just don't even care, that you just eat
whatever and it doesn't matter, and you don't care if
it causes disease. I mean, these are complicated issues that
have multiple facets to them. Again, that was my life
of teaching people that for thirty years. But if it
is weight loss, you can apply this mindset to anything.

(45:36):
I'm just giving you example. So if it is weight loss,
let's say you've gained one hundred pounds and you're just like,
I don't even care. I'm just gonna eat whatever I want.
I just don't even care. I want you to think
about what is it going to cost you in your life?
If you don't get serious about this, What is it
going to cost you? What is it costing you right now?

(45:57):
And where are you gonna be five to ten years
from now if you don't get serious about this. Again,
this could be anything that you've come up with, not
just weight loss, but it could be alcohol, maybe you
have an anger problem, Maybe it's any of the areas
that we talked about. But truly, ask yourself, what is
it going to cost me if I don't get serious

(46:18):
about this? Maybe money from sickness or loss of opportunities
because you're so tired and unmotivated, or you just aren't
happy anymore? How will it affect your children or your family?
Think about those things. Some people have a hard time
doing it for themselves, but if they think about God
or they think about their family, sometimes they'll do it

(46:39):
for other people as well. You want to write down
a few things, and this is where you want to
think about the pain of the cost. This is not
about saying, oh, you're being negative. No, this is called
reality check and saying what is really going on here?
Because if you don't face it, then how are you
going to repent from it? If you don't face what

(46:59):
the truth is, then you're not going to be able
to change at the level that you can. So I
want you really thinking about that and really be serious now.
If you haven't had time to do it while we've
been talking, go back to this, make yourself revisit this
and text that number I'm gonna give you in a
few minutes, could get this whole list and just commit

(47:20):
to do it within the next three days and say,
you know what, I'm gonna actually sit down with this
and go through all these questions as well. So the
next step number six is what are you renewing your
mind too? Like, what are you now thinking about a
scripture I mentioned earlier in Ephesians four. It says to
put off your old self, which belongs to your former

(47:41):
manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires. That
word put off means to cast off, lay aside, put
off your old self which is your former manner of conduct,
and be renewed in the spirit of your mind. Remember,
renewed is to renovate. Then it says to put on
the new self, created after the likeness of God and

(48:03):
true righteousness and holiness. Wow, put on means sink into
like clothing, new self, recently, made new, fresh, of a
new kind, unused, unworn, recent. Why recent, Because you're a
new creation in Christ. You now are born of God
when you become a born again believer. So thinking about

(48:28):
that of what are you actually renewing your mind too?
And again the example of the weight loss or not
caring about your body when you say, well, it doesn't matter,
I'm just gonna die one day anyway. The new mindset
of thinking, what are you renewing your mind too? My
body is a temple of God. I've been put in
charge of respecting and taking care of this body that

(48:51):
is my responsibility as the person that's in this body
is to take care of it. So this is where
you focus on real that I don't want to live
that way anymore, to not care about my body. I
don't own my body. I don't have that right to
not care. So that could be applied to alcohol, that
could apply to pornography, that could apply to drugs, that

(49:15):
could apply to being a doubtful worry word where you're
always worrying and you're not trusting in God. Again, everybody
is different. This is where you've got to find what
is the thing for you. The seventh step, and we're
wrapping this up, is what is the benefit of renewing
it to this way of thinking? Like what is it
going to do for your life, for others, for your

(49:35):
walk with God? Whether the good reasons you want to
change this behavior or your way of thinking. This is
where we stop and really think about, well, well would
actually happen if I got this part of my life renewed,
Like what would that do to my life? This is
why you want to first recognize what it is, like
we've mentioned, and then see what it's costing you, but

(49:57):
then see what you want to renew it too. And
what is is it actually gonna do for you? What
this is doing is it's also giving you more reasoning
and understanding. This is giving your brain a bigger scope
of understanding of what's going on now. Again, everything that
I teach is driven by principles in the Bible. You're

(50:17):
gonna hear me talk about the mind and the body.
God created all of this stuff. That's not saying, oh,
that's all you know scientific stuff. Well, God made science,
so there's nothing wrong with understanding anatomy and physiology of
how He created this body and how it functions. And
that's one of the gifts He gave me from being
in the industry that I was in for so long.

(50:38):
And that was another part of what God used to
help me transform because I had more of an understanding
about this body and the brain and how to change behavior.
And when I learned how to apply scriptures to this
and what the scriptures support in this, it was just
such an amazing combination to see how the Bible actually

(50:59):
teaches us this is what we're supposed to be doing. Now.
The last steps are going to be common sense ones
of actually applying it and paying attention. So the eighth
step is to start thinking the new thoughts instead of
the old ones. For example, so when your brain starts
to think, I don't care, it doesn't matter. I'm just
getting these five donuts. I'll gonna die one day anyway,

(51:20):
those are old thoughts. You have to replace those thoughts
with new ones. Yes, it does matter that I take
care of my body. My body is the temple of God.
I need to make a better choice. What can I
choose instead? If your brain thinks, oh, it doesn't matter
if I drink this whole bottle of wine. Who cares
if I get drunk all the time, it doesn't matter. Yes,
it does matter. Your body is the temple of God,

(51:43):
and God gave it to you to respect and take
care of. And God doesn't want us to be a
slave to something that controls us. Two Peter two nineteen
says that we are a slave to whatever controls us.
And you better believe that alcohol, drugs, or sugar is
certainly one of those things, including food addiction. So this
is where God just would show me these scriptures and

(52:05):
help me understand this. So you have to remind yourself, oh,
I don't think that way anymore. You have to catch
your brain going those old ways. I don't do that anymore.
I don't think like that anymore. When I got off drugs,
I had to consistently remind myself, Oh wait a minute,
I don't do that anymore. Don't you think my body

(52:25):
wanted to go back to those old ways my brain
to escape, you know, and to have the cravings and temptations.
I mean, it was a battle at times, as well
as when God helped me break my sugar addiction. This
is not something that's just like snap your finger and
it's all fixed. This is gonna take some work, and
this is something to embrace to understand that that's okay.

(52:48):
You're talking about twenty thirty, forty fifty years of you
before Jesus, depending on how old you are when you
get saved, that needs reconditioning. This is why this becomes
walk of life. And this is why I have a
TV show every week and a radio show because I'm
constantly breaking down these things to try to help people

(53:09):
understand it more, little by little, Because again, it's not
something that happens overnight. So when I talked to you
about renewing your mind, remember I'm talking from a person
that knows this works, but I had to pay attention
and put some effort into it and be aware when
those old thoughts were popping back up, and when my

(53:29):
brain would have a moment of like, oh, I want
to go do that. Oh wait a minute, Nope, I
don't do that anymore. Oh yeah, that's right now, I
don't go eat an entire pan of brownies anymore. I
had to remind myself of my new behavior. And again,
this is where it does take some work and take
some focus. And I remember when I originally quit drinking alcohol,

(53:52):
and I had gone out with my dad on his
boat and we used to do that and I'd drink
some beers out there and just you know, hang out
and watch the dolphins. And I think it had been
about three months since I had been drinking, maybe like six,
So this was like the first time that I stepped
into a situation that I immediately felt a trigger, like
I immediately felt tempted, and I just suddenly wanted to

(54:15):
drink alcohol. And I hadn't been feeling that for a
little while. So all this sudden I had to really
renew my mind to those points because I wanted to
do it, My body wanted to do it, and I
had to remind myself, oh, I don't do that anymore,
and I would pray about it and quote scriptures and
remind my brain what's going on right now. So I

(54:36):
did it exactly all the things that I've been talking
to you about. I thought about the things that was
costing me, where my life was headed if I kept
that up, and all the reasons why I didn't want
to continue drinking. I wanted to honor God and not
be getting drunk. And I had committed to go a
whole year with no alcohol, and again, I was only

(54:57):
at a three to six month point at that moment.
I had to remind myself, Nope, I don't do that anymore.
I'm not giving into this right now. I know I
feel tempted, but I'm not doing it. And I remember
it just was at first. It was really hard that first,
like twenty thirty minutes, because I just kept thinking about it,
but I kept doing exactly what I'm talking to about,

(55:18):
and all of a sudden it went away and we
had a great time and I didn't really think about
it much again, and I made it that whole year,
and now it's been fifteen. So I had to recognize
that that thought came up, and I knew that it
was a trigger because it wasn't there before I got there,
and all of a sudden, it just came out of nowhere,
and I knew that I was being triggered. But I
had to remind myself and recondition my brain in those moments,

(55:42):
and again after a little while it went away. So
one of the things that I used to really struggle
with was overeating. I mean big time, and I would
be like, Oh, I've just eaten that amount, and I
know it's enough for my body, but I want more.
That was so good. I want to keep eating. And
I had to learn to tell myself, no, you don't
need anymore, you've had enough, push the plate away and

(56:05):
walk away. I had to recondition my brain and I
would tell myself, you've had enough, walk away, do something different.
I thank you God for helping me activate my God
given self control right now, like I had to learn
how to pray those scriptures. So the ninth step and
coming into the final is to apply specific scriptures to

(56:27):
this old way of thinking. When it returns, you must
remind your mind what you're doing. And I didn't have
this in the beginning, because first you got to break
all that stuff down and figure out what you are
renewing from and where are you changing from, and then
apply scriptures to that situation. It says in two Corinthians
four sixteen. So we do not lose heart. Though our

(56:51):
outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being
renewed day by day. So we don't lose heart. We
understand that the outer self is dying. The body's gonna
perish one day, but the inner self, your soul, your mind,
will hearten, emotions is being renewed day by day for
the rest of your life. Again, that word means to cause,

(57:12):
to grow up, to renovate, So you want to think
about those specific scriptures that can really help you. Another
one was Tewod Corinthians ten to five, casting down arguments
and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge
of God, bringing every thought captive into the obedience of Christ.
When I quit smoking marijuana over twenty five years ago,

(57:35):
I still gave believe I used to do that. I
had to apply this scripture and when that thought came
in my mind that I wanted to use and I
just didn't even care at that moment. This scripture I
quoted over and over and over again every minute. I'm
not kidding you. Sometimes when that thought would come back,
you know what, so what, I'm just gonna go do it.

(57:56):
I just don't even care. I'm just gonna go do it. No,
I'm casting down that thought. That is a thought that
exalts itself against the knowledge of God. Addiction is not
of God. And are goin to bring this thought into
the captivity of the obedience of Christ. Now again you
might think, well that is just take some work. Uh yeah,

(58:17):
it's okay to put some effort into changing It's going
to take effort. So this is where we want to
remind ourselves. And the last step number ten bringing it
on home is to repeat the process when old thinking
comes back. So when that old thought comes back in
and you just go to the old behavior, you just

(58:38):
gotta repeat the process. Remind yourself. Nope, I don't do
that anymore. I don't live like that anymore. And again,
I had to do it every sixty seconds sometimes. And
then I remember days when I first quit using drugs.
I mean I would think about it all day and
I had to constantly renew my mind and then I

(58:59):
would have to do that every minute, you know, literally
every minute for hours on end, and then all of
this sudden, it was every couple of minutes. Then I
wouldn't think about it for five or ten minutes. But
this was renewing my mind over and over again, and
it worked and it continues to work. So we are

(59:20):
called to renew our mind. Our lives to this point
are just the conditioning that we've had from everything we've
been through and learned and experience in this life. And
part of sorting this out with God when you become
a new creation in Him, is what needs to go
and what needs to stay. What is the old behavior

(59:41):
that needs to leave and what is the new behavior
that you need to put on. So become a student
of doing this. Become somebody that says, I want to
actually live my life in a way that honors God,
and I actually a transforming in these ways to live
for Him in this life. And if you want to

(01:00:01):
get all these notes and be able to have this
list I gave you, just text the word renew mind
to this number five eight six five hundred seven three
three three five eight six five hundred seven three three three.
If you have not seen my DV show. You got
to check it out. I am talking ridiculous scenery. We've done,

(01:00:23):

after that, but we go to amazing scenery. You can

YouTube channel. But don't forget to share this with a friend.
You never know whose life you're gonna impact. I am
excited that you are here and gonna see you on

(01:00:44):
the next TV show or radio show every single week.
Make it a goal to make this a part of
helping you to transform your life. By renewing your mind,
you will have transformation and lasting transformation. So Mana Taylor,
till the next time. I will talk to you soon.
Bye bye
