Speaker 1 (00:00):
Today on from his heart with Pastor Jeff Shreeve, we'll
learn an important lesson from the encounter that Jesus had
with the unclean woman.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
I don't know where you are today, but I know
that all of us can relate to this woman in
one degree or another. The Lord cares about you. And
if you're dealing with a serious problem that's physical, he cares,
that's emotional, he cares. If you're dealing with a sin problem,
he cares. He cares. But you have to get to Jesus.

(00:34):
He can work a miracle in your life, and in
my life, and in our marriages, and in our families,
and in our businesses, in every aspect of life if
we will just trust.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Gool with real truth from his home now. Most of
us probably can't really relate to having a legion of
demons cast out of us, nor to seeing anyone raise
from the dead, but we can all relate to needing

(01:13):
the Lord to heal us, whether it's physical, emotional, or spiritual.
This is from his heart with Pastor Jeff Shreeve. Thank
you for being with us today as we take a
close look at the story of Jesus and the woman
who had the issue of blood and see how it
interacts and applies so much with your life and my life.

(01:33):
The message is entitled Jesus and the Unclean Woman, and
it's from Pastor Jeff's new eight lesson series, Divine Encounters.
What happens when people meet the Master. Right now, they'll
open your Bible to mark chapter five. Here again is
Pastor Jeff with a lesson Jesus and the Unclean Woman,

(01:54):
Part two.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
I want you to notice with me three discoveries about
this woman and see how it enters sex, your life
and mind. First discovery, she had a serious problem, serious
serious problem. She was a woman that couldn't stop bleeding.
And the Bible says in Leviticus, chapter fifteen, in verse

(02:16):
twenty five, Now if a woman has a discharge of
her blood many days, not at the period of a
menstrual impurity, or if she has a discharge beyond that
period all the days of her impure discharge, she shall
continue as though in her menstrual impurity she is unclean.
She's been unclean for twelve years. She had a serious problem,

(02:41):
and she was suffering. First of all, she was suffering physically.
You can't lose blood on a regular basis without it
affecting you. And she was physically sick, so she was
suffering physically. She was suffering secondly emotionally because this is
the kind of thing that is just a horrible thing

(03:05):
for a woman to have, suffering the embarrassment of this issue,
trying so hard to get it repaired, but none of
the doctors could help her. She was suffering physically, she
was suffering emotionally. She was suffering financially because it says
that she had spent all her money. She endured much
at the hands of many physicians and had spent all

(03:27):
that she had and was not helped at all, but
rather had grown worse. She was crushed financially, physically, emotionally,
and then spiritually she was struggling and suffering spiritually. Why
do I say that, It's because, no doubt, she felt
abandoned by God. I think about all the time she

(03:50):
cried out to God to heal her. So she had
a serious problem. Secondly, she had a lot of obstacles
that she had to overcome. Now, let's think about her obstacles.
Jesus was helping Gyros. That's her first obstacle. Gyrus is
a big shot he's a synagogue official. Hey, her name

(04:11):
is not mentioned. And secondly, Jesus is in a hurry
because Gyrus's daughter is at the point of death, and
so listen, time is of the essence. He is going
with Gyros to his house and he's coming going through
this crowd to get to her before she dies, to
heal her. And so she's thinking to herself, no doubt, Well,

(04:36):
I mean, I don't want to interrupt him. And he's
busy and he's got this he's going to help this guy.
And this guy is really important and I'm not important,
and you know, how can I interrupt him? Jesus is
helping Gyros. Jesus is in a hurry. Jesus is in
a crowd. The crowd is thronging him, pressing in on him.

(04:57):
And so how she has to go. She's not physically
strong from losing a lot of blood. We said she
was anemic. Probably she was fatigued, she was worn out.
This has been going on for a year after year
after year after year of twelve years, and she's got
to push her way through to get to Jesus. And

(05:18):
then the fourth obstacle. Jesus is clean, She's unclean. But
Jesus is not just ceremonially clean. Jesus is holy, holy, holy.
She is unclean, unclean, unclean. How can I get close

(05:38):
to him all these obstacles. Hey, what do you do
when there are obstacles to get to Jesus? I remember
years ago I heard this statement. You can tell the
size of a Christian by what it takes to stop him,
by what it takes for him to quit, to throw
in the towel, to give up. You know, Jesus said,

(05:59):
men always to pray, and not to faint, not to quit,
not to give up, not to throw in the towel.
Keep praying, keep praying, keep praying, keep seeking. Seek first
his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will
be added to you. Ask, seek and knock, Ask and
keep asking, seeking, keep seeking, knock and keep knocking. Because
if you keep on, keep on, keep on, the Lord

(06:22):
says he will answer you. He will open for you.
You will seek me and find me when you search
for me with all your heart. Now, many of you
know the Italian philosopher that had one of the greatest
quotes of all from a few years ago. That Italian

(06:44):
philosopher Rocky Balboa, and he said in the movie called
Rocky Balboa, not you, not me, not anybody will hit
as hard as life. But life ain't about how hard
you can hit. It's about how hard you can get
hit and keep moving forward, about how much you can

(07:05):
take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done.
Some of you have gotten hit by life. This lady
had gotten hit by life, I mean big time hit
by life. But she wasn't quitting. She spent all the
money that she could, spend all the money she had
on doctors. She came to the end of her row.

(07:27):
Though no doctor can help me. My disease is incurable.
But he can help me. He can help me. She
has a serious problem. She had a lot of obstacles.
And thirdly, discovery number three, she had a simple faith.
A simple faith. We would say a desperate faith, because

(07:48):
her situation is very desperate, but it was just a
simple faith. And it says in verse twenty seven, after
hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd him
and touched his cloak, touched the hem of his garment.
For she thought, if I just touch his garments, I

(08:09):
will get well. And immediately the flow of her blood
was dried up, and she felt in her body that
she was healed of her affliction. And it happened that fast.
As soon as she touched the hem of his garment,
she was healed. Now, don't you know that was the
most exhilarating experience for her, the most exhilarating moment. I've

(08:32):
had this for twelve years and now it's just gone,
and it's just gone so quickly. She had a simple faith. Now,
when we talk about touching the hem of his garment,
you know, the Jews were commanded to put a tassel,
a blue cord in numbers fifteen. The men would put
a blue cord on the edges of their robes to

(08:52):
remind them of the commands of God. And so I
have a picture that shows what she did. She just
wanted to that chord that him of his garment. Now,
she wasn't going to pull on it. She was just
gonna touch it. And here's the amazing thing. If you
just touch that, there's no way in the world that

(09:15):
anyone would know that you touched it. People are jostling. Jesus,
he's getting, you know, thronged and crowded, and she just
touches that, and boom, she is healed. And Jesus knew
it immediately. And Jesus responded, it says, immediately her flow

(09:38):
of blood was dried up Verse thirty. Immediately Jesus, perceiving
in himself that the power proceeding from him had gone forth,
turned around in the crowd and said, who touched my garments?
And his disciples said to him, you see the crowd
pressing in on you, and you say, who touched me?
I mean? They were like, what do you mean, who
touched you? Everybody's touching you. But Jesus knows when someone

(10:02):
touches him by faith. He knows is a big difference,
you know. The Bible says that faith Hebrews eleven one.
Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction
of things not seen. Goes on to say in verse six,
if Hebrews eleven without faith, it's impossible to please God.
For he comes to God must believe that he is

(10:24):
and that he's a rewarder of those who seek him.
Jesus knows when you touch him with a touch of faith,
not a tug, just a touch. And she was no doubt,
saying to herself I won't make him unclean if I
just touched the hem of his garment that tassel. And

(10:47):
he knows, and he cares when someone touches him in faith,
so he stops. Now, remember Jyrus's daughter is at the
point of death, so they're hurrying to get where he
needs to go to Jyrus's house, He stops, Who is
it who touched me? Rabbi, you said, who's it who

(11:08):
touched you? Everybody's touching you. No, no, no, somebody touched me.
It was I felt power go out from me. And
he begins to look around. The woman, no doubt, wanted
to slip away. She wanted to get her a miracle
and then slip away because she didn't want to interrupt
Jesus or bother Jesus. But Jesus wouldn't let her do that.

(11:29):
He cares when someone touches him, and he looked around
verse thirty two to see the woman who had done this.
But the woman, fearing and trembling, aware of what had
happened to her, came and fell down before him and
told him the whole truth. She told him how long
she had been having this sickness, for twelve years. She

(11:52):
told him about wasting all her money with the doctor.
She told him about the physical pain, and the emotional pain,
and the spiritual pain. She told him about all that.
And she had heard that Jesus could heal, and she said,
I just know if I touch the hymn of his garment,
I will be healed. And she was. And he told

(12:14):
her all those things. Now, the Lord did not call
her out to embarrass her. You know, she had been
embarrassed enough because of this sickness. He didn't do that.
He called her out because he cared about her. He
didn't want her to receive a physical healing and then
go away. He wanted to do something more in her life.

(12:36):
And he says in verse thirty four, he said to her, daughter,
your faith has made you well. Go in peace and
be healed of your affliction, of your scourge, of the
whip that had been upon you for these twelve years.
He calls her daughter. You know, she's the only person
in scripture that Jesus ever called daughter, the only one.

(12:59):
You know, she's a woman, But he calls her daughter.
That's a term of endearment. And I think it's interesting
because he's going to the home of Jyrs to heal
his daughter. But he tells this woman who felt so
abandoned by God, you're a daughter of the King. You're

(13:21):
a daughter of the King of Kings and Lord of
Lord's daughter. Your faith has made you well. Now she
knew there wasn't anything magic about his robe. The power
wasn't in his robe. The power was in the person
of the Lord Jesus. And she knew if I touch that,
if I just touch it, if I just get close

(13:42):
enough to him to touch that tassel, he'll heal me.
And she believed that, And the Lord responded to her faith.
And he knows when we reach out and touch him
by faith. He cares when we reach out and touch
him by faith. And he desires to restore us at
the deepest level, at the deepest level, that's why he

(14:06):
wouldn't let her leave. He called her to himself so
that he could restore her, so that he could let
her know that she was a daughter of the King
of Kings and Lord of Lords, so that she was
special and she was loved, and God hadn't forgotten her,
and he knew about her pain. The Lord wants to
heal us, not just the surface. He wants to heal

(14:29):
us at the deepest point, at the deepest level we
had on Thursday, Hadley Baker in town. He's passed her
in the Rockwall area. He wrote the book No Longer
a Slave, and Hadley Baker writes very openly and honestly
in this book about his struggle with pornography and sexual

(14:52):
immorality for decades. But one of the things that he
did was he had these three little placards that he
put on, and he said, the first one was brokenness.
He said, I was broken inside. He said, I didn't
know who my dad was. My mom got pregnant when
she was seventeen. She didn't know who the father was.

(15:14):
I never knew my dad, and so then my mom
I have my grandfather's name. When I'm first come into
this world, I took his last name. And then my
mom married a guy some years later, and so he
was like my dad, and I took his name. And
then they broke up. And then he said, when I
was ten, I went to live with my aunt and uncle,
and I took his name. He said, when I went

(15:37):
to school in actually Hatchie when he was ten and
he was living now with his aunt and uncle, he said,
he went to write on the paper at school what
his name was, and he had to stop and think,
what is my name? What is my name? I don't know.
I've had three names and I'm only ten years old.
He had a deep wound, a deep father wound, a

(15:57):
deep abandonment wound. He said, I was broken, and he
put the sign brokenness on and then he put another
sign on that said belief. He said, I believed terrible
things about myself. I believed I was unloved, I was unlovable,
I was unwanted. And he said, from that negative belief,

(16:18):
then there was behavior, and he put on the third
placard behavior. And his behavior matched his belief that came
from his brokenness, and it fueled him into a world
of addiction. And he said, you know, I prayed and
prayed and prayed that God would take this away. And

(16:39):
he said, God didn't take it away. I wanted it
just to be gone Like that. How many of us
when we're sick with some sickness or some sin or
some issue, we want it just to be gone. And
you know, some people have the testimony. They come to
the altar and they pray, and their alcoholism just gone.
Their drug addiction just gone. Their addiction to cigarettes just gone.

(17:04):
But very few have that. Most of us still struggle
in those areas. And he said, you know, God can
heal in a moment in time, or he can heal overtime.
And he said, he chose in my life to heal
me over time, to give me deliverance over time. And
he said, he said, the reason I think the Lord

(17:27):
did that is because if he had just healed that behavior,
if he had taken that behavior away, I still had
the belief that I was unloved and unlovable and unwanted
and abandoned and God didn't really love me. He said,
I still had those rotten beliefs. And he mentioned something
I hadn't thought about this before. He mentioned the movie

(17:49):
Shawshank Redemption. Many of you are familiar with the movie
Shawshank Redemption. There's a guy in that story, an old
guy that finally gets out of prison. He's been institutionalized
for decades and decades and decades. He finally pays his
debt to society. He gets out and he's working at
a grocery store and he doesn't know how to do

(18:12):
life on the outside, and he's trying to figure it out,
and he can't figure it out, and he ends up
killing himself. And Hadley said, I would have been like
that guy. If God had just taken this away without
dealing with the deeper issues with my belief system. That

(18:32):
was so wrong. He said, I wouldn't have had this behavior,
but then it would have morphed into something else. He
had to deal with my brokenness. He had to deal
with my faulty beliefs. The Lord said to her daughter,
she didn't feel like a daughter. She just felt unclean, unclean,

(18:53):
unclean because that's what she had been for twelve years.
And Jesus is so loving and so caring and so
kind because he wasn't gonna let her get away. Daughter,
your faith has saved you. Yes, you've been healed, but
there's something so much more. You've been saved. Your faith

(19:16):
has made you well so so which means to save.
It's the same word as salvation. Your faith has saved you.
Be healed of your affliction and go in peace. You
can have peace in your heart. You don't have to
live like you're separated from God, like God has you
in the doghouse, and God doesn't care about you. He

(19:37):
cares about the gyroses of the world, but he doesn't
care about you. No, you are God's daughter. I love that. Listen.
I don't know where you are today, but I know
that all of us can relate to this woman in
one degree or another. The Lord cares you. And if

(20:01):
you're dealing with a serious problem that's physical, he cares,
that's emotional, he cares. If you're dealing with a sin problem,
he cares. He cares. But you have to get to Jesus,
the Lord says, and you'll seek me and find me
when you search for me with all your heart. You
can't let some obstacles stop you. You got to keep praying.

(20:26):
You got to keep seeking, You got to keep asking,
You got to keep knocking. You got to keep coming
before him. A righteous man falls seven times, and what
does he do? He doesn't stay down? He rises again.
Have you thrown in the towel on your situation, thinking
that it can never change, Thinking it's been so long,
I don't think this will ever change. She probably thought

(20:49):
that too, But then she heard about Jesus, the one
who's mighty to save, the one who can do anything.
He is the God of all flesh, is anything too
difficult for him. And the answer is, you know he
can work a miracle in your life and in my life,
and in our marriages, and in our families, and in
our businesses, in every aspect of life if we will

(21:12):
just trust him.
