Speaker 1 (00:17):
Hey guys, it's Gerald Burke, and UM to say that
the last two days have been crazy and shocking and
overwhelming and upsetting and alarming is honestly quite an understatement.
Let's just be clear. I'm feeling okay as of now.
I'm feeling fine. Yesterday for me was the worst because, um,
(00:38):
first of all, that was the day I found out
I tested positive. I just psychologically, I think, was completely
felt defeated, and then on top of it, physically, UM,
I just wasn't feeling right, and it just got progressively worse.
But I just want to thank you guys so much
for all of your kind messages and your support has
been beyond overwhelming in a good way. And I do
(01:01):
appreciate all of you guys so much. Okay, but let's
just talk about why I'm here by myself. So A J.
Renee and I basically had talked about taking a break
from the pretty messed up part of the podcast because,
you know, with me doing Dancing with the Stars celebrating
season thirty, you know A J's shows that he's doing,
He's traveling almost every single week. Times have become honestly
(01:23):
so hectic to get all of us together has been
almost impossible, so I just never thought that I would
become the story. Um, but you know, you all have
been reaching out with questions and wanting to know everything
that is happening. So I decided to use the podcast
to do just that. You know. So for the next
eight weeks, I hope you guys stick with me. UM,
I will be giving you guys all the Dancing with
(01:44):
the Stars behind the scenes details, gossip, talking to all
the pros and celebrities. You're gonna hear it right here
on this podcast. First my covid updates. UM, So tonight
we'll be the start and I'll be talking about all
the things you didn't see on the show for the
next two months. So I hope you guys stick with me,
and we're going to call this pretty messed up Dancing
(02:05):
with Myself. I love you guys, and hope you join me.
Hey booboo, longtime, no zoom. Just kidding exactly. Literally, we've
(02:26):
been doing this all day, all damn day. And you
know what, let for those people who may not watch
the show religiously or may not follow us on Instagram, like,
can you just give me a step by step process?
I guess your whole perceptive perspective on like what happened,
how you found out I had COVID? What the heck
was going through your body feelings and everything. Yeah, I mean,
(02:48):
you know, we we've been doing the cycle of like
flying out to New York doing rehearsals, flying back here
doing more rehearsals. So it's it's been a whirlwind. And
then you know, we had our rehearsal. We we cleaned
up a lot, we had fun. I said like, I'll
see you tomorrow boo, and then I went to came home,
(03:08):
ordered room, came to the hotel, ordered room service, I
went to sleep, and then woke up to like literally
paragraphs from Cheryl Burke that like literally if I had
seen if I you know, when you see someone writing
a paragraph on their phone from afar, you're like you're
like they're either going they're probably like going through a breakup,
or like they are like literally reading someone filled riding
(03:33):
the paragraph. So I woke up to that paragraph thinking
that you had like broken up with me, to be honest,
and then I read all of it and then like,
oh wow, okay, that's a lot, because it was a lot.
I was just like it was a lot. I was
just like worried. You know, I was just worried about
(03:54):
you because I've been through COVID. It sucks. I remember
times when I had COVID. I was like, I'm on
face time with my boyfriend. Obviously this was you know,
a pre vaccinated world. So you know, I'm just I
was worried about you. You know, we've been talking and
chatting throughout the past, you know, a few days, and
you seem to be at place. You know, even though
(04:16):
you had a yucky day yesterday. That's pumping. Yeah, I
think it's adrenaline pumping through your system. Let's see what
happens when you wake up tomorrow. But I think that
you know, this one, we've been talking about that. Like COVID,
it just changes and it's and it's got a lot
of different things. So we just want you to focus
on resting, taking care of yourself. And I know you
(04:37):
got go back through the next week no matter what happens,
but you gotta take care of you. And but you
are me right now, so we are one. So there
there we go. Um. Okay, so listen, did you think
you were going to dance tonight and now that you
saw the rehearsal footage and we saw how it all
played out. Do you wish you would have danced with
like someone like Sophia the other dancer instead. Yeah? I
mean listen, those those were options on the table. Stands
(05:00):
with with with Sophia and maybe you know, I thought
that's what we were going into. And then all these
people who make decisions that are way above our pay grade,
we're like, uh, not so fast, that's not gonna happen.
We can't have you in the ballroom. I was like, Okay,
why why did they say that? I mean, I think
it's just like quarantining COVID all this sort of thing.
(05:20):
I don't think they wanted to take that risk. And
that's people around me. Yeah yeah, I was around you
so um and negative and I've tested negative yes, from
the past two every test that I've had for the
you know, the past three weeks have been negative. Um.
And I wouldn't have a mask if I were performing,
(05:42):
So I think that's also a big factor. Um so
that they have a many heart attack. If you were
doing this sas with a mask on might hyper I
might pass. Yeah, Um, you know, do I wish that instead?
I got to perform with us with a sub and
so footage. Yes, of course we had worked on it,
(06:03):
even you know you had worked on it with me.
I took all those notes that you've given me, came
to the hotel room mentally went through it. I was
going I was running through it on Sunday because I
didn't know what was going to happen. And there was
all these little details and textures that I wanted to
really perform and give. And how fierce was our costume.
Our costume was incredible. It was like this fierce black
(06:24):
floral print. And I was so excited for yeah, like,
oh I forgot yours? Yeah you had that fringe my
birth stones there you go. Um. But I was excited.
I was excited for the costumes, for the added layers
and textures. And then I feel very shaded because I
had those pink shoes on from last week and Carrie
(06:48):
and goes, it's gonna make you think twice about putting
your rehearsal wardrobe. Literally, I was just like, Okay, this
is what y'all got me in this bust at ass outfit. Okay, great,
So okay, listen, I mean rewind a little bit here.
What what is why dancing with the stars right, Like,
So when they offered this to you, where you like
(07:09):
yes right away? Or did you have to think about it? Yeah?
Um no, I think, well, you know what, here's where
my hesitation lied. I was just nervous when I got
the the offer. I was just like nervous because you know,
outside of Peloton, not everybody knows me, so I'm going
(07:29):
in it kind of a foreign figure. Um. I knew
that there was gonna be a lot of work. I
knew that it was gonna be a lot of rehearsal
as that you know. I knew that I was going
to maintain my work at Peloton, so that was gonna
be traveling in extra rehearsals. I was like, am I
physically up to it? And then the emotional the emotional
uh hurdles that you have to get through that I'm
learning or even more severe than I thought they were
(07:51):
going to be. So I think the hesitation was I
was nervous, and I was like, do you want to
go into this, because if you do, you're gonna have
to fully committed, Because I don't have fast things. I
go into fully committed. So I knew that like if
I'm gonna do it. I gotta do it with my
whole heart and all of my commitment. And so that
was my only hesitation. I think that lasted just about
(08:14):
like ten minutes. I literally got a call with my
agent and then I was like, I need to go
to the grocery store. I'll be right back. I like,
I went to the grocery store. I came back and
I was like, let's do it. Let's job, let's go. Um. Well,
I'm so happy that you decided to do it, because
I mean hello, or like two p's in a pot
over here? Um? Literally, So what is your goal? Like,
(08:35):
is your goal to take this competition step by step?
Are you trying to build a career from you know,
a platform like Dancing with the Stars? You know, as
you say, it's it's um the mainstream media, right, and
because you're so known in in the I guess I
don't know what they call it nowadays? What's social social media?
Social media? But you're very relevant, right like the younger generation.
(08:58):
And I think, um, like, is you what is your
ultimate like five year plan? I guess it's a lot.
I hate I'm just not a big five year plan person. Well,
it's more it's more so kind of like for me
and how I go through the world. And there's plenty
of amazing people who have these massive plans and that
(09:19):
works for them. Um for me, it's kind of living
in the moment, and I always trust that everything that
I've that I have learned, and all the skills that
I've created will follow me into every opportunity that I get,
and that every opportunity will teach me something new and
open up a new opportunity for me, if that makes sense.
(09:41):
So I'm just kind of living in this moment, trying
to enjoy it and hope that whatever comes next is
right for me. And it's always rooted in purpose. And honestly,
what I really want the purpose of me to be
here is that people see me having fun and they
see my authenticity and and they see that that fitness
(10:04):
is not so scary. And so if I can inspire
people to create a relationship with their fitness journey, with sweat,
with movement, with taking care of theirselves their wellness, then
I know that the that being here on this show,
with dancing with stars and being with you is rooted
in purpose, and that's really what is important to me.
I mean, honestly, I think in that you you actually
(10:25):
are not saying that you actually you know, you act
upon all of what you just said, And I think
that is very important because really, like sometimes we'll even
check each other like like first of all, and that's
the good thing is that we know how to communicate
in that sense, Like I'll be a lot most of
the time, I'll be giving you seventy five different things
(10:45):
to do and You're like, okay, listen, and I'm like, okay, yeah, yeah.
So I think that is also importantly as a partnership.
But also I think you exude all of that positivity,
which is great for people right now, especially at home
with COVID like myself, but like people need that their
lives at the Momentum. Okay, I'm gonna play a game.
I'm gonna pay homage to my other two co hosts
(11:06):
from Pretty Messed Up Erne Alizondo and A J. Mccleanfand
the Backstreet Boys. I hear that Kevin is your favorite
Backstreet Boy. So we're gonna play this. Okay, well, hold up,
hold up, but here here's the gag. Okay, so let's
get that on the record. Kevin, in my opinion, is
the hottest. Okay, Okay, I will always give that a
(11:28):
J is the the vocal superior of the group. He
always had the best vocals in every song. So let's
let's just okay, alright, alright, We're gonna play this game
called kiss Mary, kill Brian a J or Kevin? Um
(11:50):
would kiss? Uh? Well, I kissed Kevin. I guess Mary.
Brian seems like a Brian seems like a wholesome boy,
So I'm gonna go with Brian. So pissed you're gonna
kill a J. That's so rude. You might want to
speech to two, but whatever, that's not I'm you're not
(12:11):
asking me the question anyway. Before you leave joining us
right now, is your fellow competitor from Dancing with the Stars,
Amanda Klutz. Hi Cody, you guys did so good at
your take. You did amazing. I love you, loved it
your foxing. I love a good old traditional foxtrot. You
(12:32):
killed it with Alan, Thank you. I agree, Cheryl. I
love a foxtrot so much because I'm such a fan
of like those old Hollywood musicals. You just feel like,
you know, that feels like that old style of dancing
to me, I Fredi sta Rogers, you know, like the
old school, like what Dancing with the Stars used to be. Well,
(12:56):
you can say that I'm not that You've been a fan, right,
even a fans and season one you said season one
that's crazy, yes, And so tell me a little bit
more about like your dancing experience. I guess you have
no ballroom experience, is that correct? None? Look like a professional? Yeah,
(13:17):
I mean I you know, I did you know? I
grew up ballet trained basically those legs today in the
air in a good player, thank you. Um. And then
you know, and then I went to school for musical theater,
so rounded myself out learning like tap and jazz and
(13:37):
and you know, musical theater dance when I was a
team when I moved to New York, and then um,
you know, when I did rockets, that's completely different. That's
precision dance that has like nothing to do with anything.
It's like so different from everything. It's like military almost.
And then but you know Broadway. You know, I'm five
ft ten and a half. I was always a show girl.
(13:58):
I and put down, but I tip across the stage.
I'm never partnered. I wear huge head dresses I love,
you know, slowly walked down a staircase and I love it,
but like, you know, that's kind of like what I'm
trained in. So yeah, Cheryl, this is completely different from
anything I've ever done, but I love it because it's
(14:19):
always how I've wanted to dance, but I'm just never
able to. So do you find it harder because you
have dancing training, Like it's it harder to untrain your brain?
I think, Um, it's not hard to untrain my brain
because it's been so long since I actually like I
was in a dance class trying to train myself, you
know what I mean. I think it's just hard to
(14:42):
Like Alan is really good at like calling out all
the things that I've always hated about my dancing, like
weight transfer and like not stepping on my feet right
and like not settling into my hip or like using
my body. And it's like it's it's hard because you'll
call it out to me, and it it's like myself, um,
(15:03):
my my my self confidence issues of like my past
of being like I know I do that and you're
seeing it now and you're calling me out on it,
and and so sometimes it's like I don't want to.
It doesn't like hurt my feelings, but it's like it's
it's intimidating, you know, totally. And Cody you also, both
of you guys have dance experience, but obviously in a
(15:24):
different way. How has it been for you with me
barking at you every single day? Yeah, I mean I think,
I mean you hit it. You kind of hit it
on the head, Like you're exposing all these vulnerabilities and
you're exposing all these insecurities and you have someone literally
watching you and be like that's not right. Nope, it's
supposed to be on like this, Oh no, you step
(15:44):
on this or like pivot your leg and so it's
a lot of information that you're taking on. And on
top of that, this is a complete emotional roller coaster,
a new experience that you're like in front of a
new audience. You're literally getting judged. So it's so scary
and so much that you're taking on. And like, my
(16:04):
dexperience is kind of different. Like I was in a
commercial dance world, hip hop jazz funks, I was doing videos.
There's a lot of swag, there's a lot of like
you know, it's just completely different from here. So I'm
learning technique that I've never learned before, and I'm doing
dances that I had never even thought I would do,
you know, And Cody, do you find that because like
(16:25):
your teaching your fitness pass where you feel so confident
and who you are, And then like I strolled into
rehearsal and I'm like, I've got this today, and then
Alan shows me a step and I can't do it
at all, and then I literally feel awful about like
you've got from such a high. Oh wait wait, I
(16:45):
mean like we do? We do kind of like we're
like five six seven eight together because like Cody is
so used to counting, right, He's just counting people in
and I'm like, wait, wait, wait a second, is learning something?
Let me do the five six seven eight, even though
I'm really bad at counting it. I just like to
start right away, you know, I don't like to give
any prep time. But I think you guys, both of
you guys are doing amazing. I think this competition this
(17:07):
season is at a whole nother level because of people
like you. There's everyone has maybe now a little bit
of dance experience, um, and so it's fascinating to see
it all the late in the ballroom, but it is
it is very different, like who dances like that? You
know what I mean? Like it's all it's not about
feeling good, it's about looking good. And I think you
guys are doing a great job. Um, But I do
(17:28):
want to ask you, um, Amanda, especially about COVID right,
Like I know that that subject in itself hits home. Um,
and I am as you know positive. Um, I do
have COVID and never did I ever think I was
going to get it, especially being fully vaccinated. Um, you
want to tell us a little bit about the advice
you may want to give me. Oh my gosh. You know,
(17:49):
first of all, Cheryl, like my heart is with you,
and I'm you know, I'm so happy that you're vaccinated,
because when you are vaccinated and you get COVID, it's
a completely differ for an experience. I know this firsthand
by talking to doctors and nurses that were by my
side when Nick was sick. So you know, thank God
that you are fully vaccinated. And you know, it's just
(18:13):
I think what's so hard about this virus is that
you know, when Nick was sick, we didn't know much
and in some respects, like we still don't know how
it mutates and why it mutates, and and I think
the best thing we can possibly do is just you know,
stay on top of wearing our masks and and get
that get that vaccine, get that booster. And you know,
(18:36):
I know that you're doing everything you possibly can the
last thing that you wanted to have to happen. And
you know, you're showing so much grace and strength through this,
and you're being still an incredible partner to Cody, and
you know, like I think that's what's important, just being
setting that example, um which you what you are doing,
and you know, I'm so happy that you are still
(18:58):
feeling you know some okay. Yeah, And that's the scary
part because like a lot of people in my life,
I mean including Cody, he had COVID. It's like you
just don't know. I guess, right, like one day you'll
feel fine, the next day it may just hit you
like a truck, right, Cody, Is that how your experience was?
I mean my journey was, Yeah, I got hit pretty hard.
I was sick for like three weeks. It took me
(19:19):
a lot to bount bounce back. And you know, even
even returning to physical activity. It took me probably like
five weeks after my diagnosis to even feel like any
what normal, you know, So it was it's a work
in progress. And like I told you, you know yesterday,
I was like, you have to take this day by
day and see what happens, and you know, treat take
care of yourself because it can it can turn at
(19:41):
any point. But I'm really bad at that. I'm more
about like, let's work. Let's work. I'm gonna be a
crazy dance mom when during rehearsals, even though I can't
be there, I'll definitely be there via zoom. How do
you feel about your scores? I mean, you've got your
top of the leaderboard, You're probably you're definitely And was like,
who's the one to beat? You are the one to beat?
(20:04):
Oh my god, you guys, um listen, you know, I
think you guys understand this. When you work so hard
all week, um, and then you're able to go out
there and actually just dance it and connect with your
partner and then receive positive feedback, it means the world,
you know. Um, Obviously this dance meant a lot to
(20:25):
me to be able to dance with this song tonight
was it was actually so joyous and so celebratory. So
then to receive those scores tonight, it was so wonderful.
I I feel really good. But you know, you guys
know this doesn't mean you're excited like tomorrow you're excited
for two seconds. Yeah, you know, it's a whole new
(20:45):
Nothing from the Fox SHOT's gonna carry over this next dance.
So it's like, here we go. For those people who
didn't see the package or see the show yet, what
was this dance? And why why you didn't mean so
much to you? Yeah? So Alan I danced the Fox
Shot It had to Be You, which was Nick and
I's wedding song. It was our first dance. You know
this song to me, it's it's such a great song
(21:08):
because it really is about, you know, the things about
your partner that drive you crazy, that are like those
like yes, like the fridge open. Yeah, Like but it
had to be you, do you know what I mean?
Like it had to be you. There was nobody else
like it had to be you, and that was Nick
and I. Like we we broke up, we fought, we
(21:31):
didn't like each other a lot, we didn't like the
same things. But then there was also that like undeniable
part of us that was just like you're my person
and like damn, like here we go. Yeah right, it's
never easy, right, Cody, absolutely, And I saw in your
story when you were talking about this sort of stuff
and kind of breaking down the songs and the lyrics,
(21:52):
and yeah, it's it is that reminder you know, even
if it's uh a romantic partner or even just a friend,
there's people that are in our lives that those special
people in our lives, they get on our damn partner,
on your nerves, they make mistakes, they arque, but at
(22:12):
the end of the day, like you're in it with
that person and you gotta you gotta love them for
their best and know that they're in there in your
life for a reason. Amen, And so what can we
look forward to next week? From the both of you?
It's britty week. It's a big freaking week in the ballroom.
I feel like, I mean, I don't know why. I
feel like Cody and I are the biggest I feel
(22:34):
like we are. I feel like I'm gonna not only
have a blast during my song, but I feel like
everyone else's songs. It's to be a concert without Britty fears,
but in our hearts, it's gonna have to control myself
at that little table, Like, how am I not gonna
just like full Tony were full on, you know, like
(22:57):
the Night for You choreography. Yeah, I know that you're saying, yes,
we're doing circuits. Oh oh, I can see you already.
Are you gonna have like a whip? And you're yes,
you are you better work? Can you tease us? I'm
(23:20):
gonna just keep saying that it's my favorite Britty stre
It's my favorite Britney Spear song of all time. So
oh and I know I'll tell you guys later. Um okay,
I love you guys, thank you. I know you have
to go and already start next week. I love you,
thank you, thank you. Do you wanna let us know? Amanda, like,
what's up? What's next for you? I know you're doing
the Talk and dancing with the Star, so that's crazy, yeah, talk,
(23:43):
dancing with the stars, um shohin to be a mom
and just you know, get some sleeping woman now superwoman. Well,
I'm very proud of you. You did amazing. Keep it
up keeping you know. I'm a huge fan of yours.
I'm a huge fan of yours. Thank you, thank you. Bye.
(24:11):
Hey guys, welcome back. We're going to bring in a
very special man who has interviewed me a few times,
Katie l A's own Sam Ruben, Hey, Sam, Oh my god.
So it's a different environment for you. Well, it's nice
to see you are. Question is how are you? How
(24:33):
are you feeling. I'm still alive. Yeah, I actually feel
like oddly normal and it's getting It was pretty bad yesterday, right,
and then I slept like I slept about seven eight hours,
which is a lot for me, and now I feel fine.
Sometimes I'll get congested or I'll get a little feeling
of like maybe dizziness, but other than that, I feel great.
(24:53):
Video that we all saw of you in a car
that was not feeling right, yeah, but years the thing
it was two things. I think you were emotionally upset, understandably,
but you were feeling poorly as well. Yeah. I it
was like a major I guess, like going down that
rabbit hole because I was like I thought at first
it was psychological before so I did the whole video
(25:16):
in two different segments. It was me going to go
get tested, so not really knowing I just felt like
maybe I came down with the flu and then finding
out right, so I thought psychologically I was playing mine
tricks on myself. So I thought I was just getting
sick because I thought I had it maybe. But then
when I finally hit me, it was like I just
let it all hang out, really, and that's how I felt.
(25:36):
I just felt crappy. I think we all do this
where you know everybody's taking every step possible to avoid it,
and then in your own head, did you think, oh,
three days ago when I went to that place, you
know what I mean, like the airport, Yeah, for sure,
because like at the end of the day, I am
traveling every single week back and forth from New York
(25:58):
to Los Angeles because of my partner, Code Rigsby. And
so I mean, look last year this time last year,
nobody got COVID right, and um, no one was vaccinated.
I don't think a year ago, um when we did
Dancing with the Stars. I don't know. I can speak
for myself. I wasn't um And so the fact that
I got this and I still I'm fully vaccinated, it's
(26:21):
still shocking, right because it's not like I think the
information that's being put out there. It's so it's different,
right is some people believe one thing. If you google it, God,
it gives you so many different options. But Um, for
some reason, I didn't think I was ever going to
get it, and that is false. It's funny because I'm
fully vaccinated as well, and I think I've always carried
(26:43):
a big denial mechanism, and I the whole time I
think I'm never going to get it. Have you gotten it? Not?
Well there you go, Well, don't drix yourself. Get my
fingers crossed. But it is, it's it's it is so
uh contagious, Like I can't tell you when I got it.
But traveling doesn't help. Put it that way. I mean
the fact that like even if you stay away from people.
(27:05):
I mean, look, I think one time I was drinking
a diet coke for the first time, put my mask down.
I mean, God knows, right, like I don't know when.
All I know and I'm happy for is the fact
that my partner never got it. He has officially tested
negative UM and he actually experienced having COVID before he
even got back to the back in January. Wow, um
(27:27):
and into a degree. I mean again, it's it's great
to do the show. It's great to be on the show.
This is gonna be hard to ask him, hard to answer.
Do you sort of one percent blame the show because
if you were look um last year, nobody was traveling, okay,
asked an answer, very very good, right, Like nobody was traveling.
(27:50):
That was a rule, like no one travels, like the cast.
Everything was made sure so that nobody was on tour,
nobody was doing any classes anywhere. It's like, this was
the thing, and I just don't I guess, I mean
they maybe the wish would be to not have people
travel until this is all said and done, and or
you know, I think there's there's a variety of definitions
(28:11):
of travel. You know, if my car maybe or or
you know, if you're in uh the California ABC private
jet or something like that. But even that, you just
don't don't know. You just don't know. And that's the thing.
It's like, you know, God, I don't know. Look, if
I got it from drinking a diet coke for two
(28:32):
seconds to um, well, like it's crazy and I'm just
I'm grateful that I'm vaccinated, because if I wasn't fully vaccinated,
I don't know how I would be right now. I
don't think i'd be here. I think one number one
Emotionally you'd be upset. But that's interesting to say. When
you say you don't think you'd be here, you mean
that in what coity physically, Like, I don't think. I mean, like,
(28:52):
yesterday was pretty bad. I felt like I and I
don't I don't remember the last time I got the flu,
but I was really achy. I like, all of a
sudden just couldn't breathe out of my nose. And then
I just felt really like out of it, and I
thought it was maybe due to the traveling um, and
then it just got progressively worse. So I just don't
know if I think the vaccination doesn't stop you from
(29:14):
getting it, but it definitely stops you, I think, from
going to the hospital. For me. I'm not all people,
I think, not just for you. Um. Yeah, here's the thing.
Because of your profession and this for a long time,
more than a lot of people, you know what I mean.
So you know if your ankle hurts, it has more
(29:35):
repercussions than for most people. So when when you first
felt it for some reason, I think you would just
be more acutely aware than most people know. I was
telling my husband Friday night, I got I flew in
Friday night on this past Friday, and I was like,
I feel strange, and but then I'm like, but the
power of your mind is so powerful, right, So it's like, oh,
(29:58):
I could be just telling myself that, and then cut
to I'm manifesting that I have COVID. But I did
feel strange, And you're right, Sam, Like, we're very in
tune with our bodies, were very in tune with our
senses as dancers, and there was something off for sure.
So to say that I got it at the airport
is not accurate either, Like if that was the case,
(30:19):
then maybe I got it Thursday when I was in
an uber on the way to the dance studio. Who knows.
And then and another thing which relates to all this, Um,
you know, this is a competitive circumstances. You're a competitive person.
You have certainly been victorious at this many many times.
How bummed do you feel to be out of the
(30:40):
competition at least for X amount of time? I was
bummed about just this dance because it was so good,
Like the rehearsal footage didn't do it justice at all.
And we worked so hard, Cody worked so hard on
this dance, and like I I'd like to say that
the Latin dances are definitely more my style. That's where
I feel the most confident. And it was just a
freaking shame, but I'm happy at Look, the worst possible
(31:01):
case scenario would have been him testing negative my partner Cody,
and not just being just eliminated right then and there. Um,
So the fact that like, look, I have to be
under quarantine, I don't know for how many days until
you know, until I don't have COVID, and um, in
the meantime, you know, Cody is gonna have to hold
the fort down a little. And thank god, next week
(31:22):
is Brittany Week and he's a huge Britney Spears fan,
so um, he'll definitely if he has to dance solo,
I'm sure he will. But that's not the case obviously.
It's either gonna be me last minute showing up on
Monday morning and being like, Okay, let's do this without
any practice, meaning like he's gonna have to train with
another professional dancer and I'm gonna be there via zoom,
but I won't know until way later in the game,
(31:46):
he's gonna be going back to New York, right, So
it's like there's a lot of moving parts when you
don't when you haven't danced to dance with somebody who
is not your dance partner for years, it's a scary thing.
One thing though, that I think is a bit of
a break. Obviously he's very athletic, and so You've been
under various partners who I would describe ranging from you know,
(32:07):
total civilians to politicians, civilians and a guy like this
you tell me would be better super than most. Oh
for sure. Look, I don't have to worry about musicality.
I don't have to worry about coordination or performance. Really.
I mean I definitely, out of every single personality I
(32:28):
guess character I've had on Dazzy and Stars, this is
definitely somebody I can do that with. I don't think
I'd be able to do that with someone like a
Tom Delay, right, Well, there would would be expected to
You know, one thing that you've done so successfully with
the whole podcast, and it relates to the title. You've
been very open and honest about the things that you
(32:49):
have endured and tackled and successfully tackled the other thing
I was kind of thinking about because this is, you know,
such a unwelcome obstacle, does it? Ever, I don't know
if this is the right word. Worry you, Oh, this
is gonna throw me back in terms of all the
progress I've made everyone all I mean, with my with
(33:12):
my addiction. Yes, absolutely. And actually it went funny you ask,
because I was thinking about that yesterday when I was
really feeling low, and I was like, God, normally, what
would I do normally? Right, I just drink the pain away?
And I would do so, probably in a way that
was very irresponsible and um. And then I always put
(33:34):
myself in the scenario of if I do do it,
so then it stops me because then I'm like, okay, yes,
that might sound great now, but then the next morning
I would feel like absolute shit, like I would be
to the point of you know, COVID and then hungover
and then like, oh no way, like it's so just
that makes me almost nauseous thinking about it, So it
stops me from doing it. And I always think, you know,
(33:57):
and this may or may not be the case, your guys,
how sold, maybe there's a bottle somewhere, or maybe there is,
but you know, the looking but one glass of whatever.
Oh it's not just one no, no, no, that would
that would be the start. Yeah, But like even I
think I hold myself up. I think I am and
(34:19):
this is what I'm working on currently, Like I I'm
not necessarily taking this all. Well, Like, if if I
were to say, like what I'm saying to myself, it's
probably quite cruel, right, Like, I'm very hard on myself.
So the fact that, like, obviously I know intellectually that
I couldn't control the COVID thing. It's not my fault,
but I'm still like in a way upset, right, and
(34:39):
I'm like, god, you know, like, and I'm hard on myself.
So if I were to even take one sip that
would be full on, there's no way. And then what
would happen is because I relapse by taking it just
a sip. I would just do it full It's either
all or nothing with me. Unfortunately, all right, well we
hopefully have uh we're not doing that. That is not
an option tonight. Yes, and then I don't know, he's
(34:59):
anybody said jested you, Um, the best thing for you
to do right now is a lot of rest a
lot of water, standing on your a lot of rest,
continue my a meetings and one one minute at a time, honestly,
because this not only is the show overwhelming, but just
in general, right, like my health and sometimes I tend
(35:19):
to put other things first in front of myself, but
I can't. This is a learning lesson for me. This
is just a lesson that I have to put myself first.
All right. So people say these meetings are very very
important because of the quarantine thing, or would you go
to a ZOOM meeting? How would? I've only done Zoom
meetings actually, And I think that's the reason why I
joined the program is because it's Zoom. I don't think
(35:41):
I could go in person because of my social anxiety. Wow,
lots of issues, lots of issues. How long do you
got sort of lighter? I know you talked to Amanda,
who apparently did very much. Um is I mean you're
you're a participant, but you're also a fan, are you? Yes?
You're rooting for You're rooting for you and Cody first
(36:03):
and four moosts. What are you rooting for anybody else?
For sure? Amanda? I mean she's she came into a
rehearsal just a few weeks ago, and she's like, Cheryl,
I've been watching the show since season one, and it's
very rare that, you know, the people that I've seen
the shows in season one have rest in peace passed away,
you know. Um so the fact that like she's been
a fan, it's been like and she just knows every
(36:24):
single season, and you know, she reminds me a lot
of Stacy Keebler from back in the Days, back in
season two. She has the same type of body type,
she's got the same musicality and talent, and she's just
so charming and her story is um it's just so
I guess, heartwrenching and heartwarming at the same time, right,
Like and I tonight especially like I loved having her
(36:47):
own as a guest because she was able to give
me another perspective when it comes to COVID because you know,
obviously for obvious reasons. So uh and then um high
score I think was Joe, Joe, you I love it.
You know, it's funny because like we always do this,
especially in the competitive world, Like there's always like my
coach was a woman, right, and so I would always
(37:08):
dance with her. So it's just like it's so normal,
but it's so refreshing to see because it just adds
a different spunk like carry and said it tonight, She's like,
it's as if I'm watching like a girl band. Maybe
she didn't say it like that, but she's just like,
it's like seeing just like a girl's number, right, and
it's powerful. I love it. I think it's great, but
I'm sure, like, you know, maybe next season there can
(37:29):
be like, you know, why isn't Cody dancing with a guy? Well?
What about that? I think for some reason, there is
far less reluctance to see two women together than to
see two men together. I mean, like, look, I think
Jenna and Jojo are doing it in a classy way.
You know, it's not like they're grinding, bumping, and you know,
they're definitely still doing what the challenges and it's two
(37:51):
ballroom dance. They have actual technical figures in the actual
Latin book of technique that they did and they showcase
and they did it great, And I think that why not,
Like I don't think it matters. Gender doesn't matter when
it comes to ballroom. They actually do it in the
ballroom world and actually on strictly come Dancing the English
version of Dancing with the Stars. They do have two
(38:12):
guys dancing together. You know what's so funny is when
we're talking about this, it's as if all the COVID
stuff evaporates, right, I know. And what's really gonna suck
because when I turn up these lives off after this
podcast and I go back to my COVID normal world
feeling sorry for myself. I'm kidding that I feel sorry
for myself. Believe you, that's understanding. So in the next
(38:34):
couple of days, will you see a doctor what we do? Well,
I'm gonna most likely get tested because really it just
depends on like how long I'm quarantined for. Right, So
I guess I have to have three negative COVID tests
in a row in order for me to be considered
to go back into the ballroom. Um. In the meantime,
(38:56):
I'm going to be in uh Cody's rehearsals with whomever
he's going to rehearsing with, and I'll be the ultimate
dance mom. And And is that a comfortable position or
is that a position where you might be a little
envious of the pro who's actually there? Or was more
anxiety like I'm gonna because I'm as everyone knows, I'm
very picky, and I'm also like, I want him to
be taught a certain way because there's a technique and
(39:18):
foundation that is still needing to be built. This is
so early on in the competition that if we're working
on gimmicks, which I hate, there's no foundation, right, So
I don't like people faking it like it has to
be real. So I don't know. We'll see if whoever
he dances with, you know, hopefully we'll understand that he's
my partner. No, I'm kidding, that's perfectly fair. Thing you said.
(39:40):
Eight weeks from now. Who's who's in that final four?
Oh my goodness. You know, I don't like to look
that far in advance, but I might as well play
the game, Okay, Amanda for sure, Joe, Joe and Jenna
for sure, Cody maybe, I hope, I don't know. I
like to stay humble, um, but then gonna add him
and then the fourth I would say, could be between
(40:06):
who am I missing? Oh of course, Spice Girl Melanie.
See it's gonna it's a girl's season again. But like, gosh,
you never know, you know, Peloton, they're that boot Crew.
They're they're for real. They are like a huge group
of like this community that just bands together, which is beautiful.
But all the women you mentioned one commonality, those are
(40:28):
all super fit women. Yeah. Fit. And also I would
say a little bit of dance experience, but I think
that's it's not just you know, normally is only one
contest that has dance experience, but this group, I think
now with Martin Cove, you know, bless him, he did
a great job, but now with him eliminated, everyone has
a little bit of dance experience or music experience when
(40:48):
it comes to like playing, like singing, like Jimmy Allen,
you know, he's so funny. Honestly, this last part just
feels like a very back to normal, you know, doesn't it?
Like I And also I'm looking at myself and I'm like,
why I have lashes on and I have COVID. Yeah
uh sure, ull be well, I will talk to You're amazing.
Thank you, Sam. There's always this comfort. You're like the
(41:08):
new Barbara Walters, you know, like, thank you. I appreciate you.
