Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is Straight Fire with Jason McIntyre.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
What is up, straight Firefan? It's me Jason McIntyre, Straight
Fire for Thursday, February sixth, Super Bowls just a few
days away. Get excited, ladies and germs. Got some good stories.
It's been a long day. I'll just say that we're
recording this late, very late to Wednesday night early Thursday morning,

(00:33):
and got some fun stuff. I think you'll like it. Obviously,
the Jimmy Butler trade will be the larger portion of
the podcast, but let's get some other stuff out of
the way first. So I've been going to the super
Bowl for many years, and when I say the super Bowl,
I mean the events the week of the Super Bowl.
I'm not like actually going to the game. I've actually

(00:54):
never been to a Super Bowl game, and I don't
have a ton of interest because it's very commercialized. It
just takes forever. The commercials are longer, the halftime shows like,
I don't know. I keep it real with you guys,
I don't love going to football game. Sometimes it's fun
occasionally big game mix it up, sure, but it's just
the appetite is not there for me to actually attend

(01:16):
the game. Anyways, So I'm here in New Orleans and
I get on the plane to fly from LA to
New Orleans, and I noticed that there's like a guy
sitting in one a who looks like it definitely looks

(01:36):
like an athlete. He's thin, he's in good shape, and
I can't place him. I'm like, I know this guy.
He's got to be a point guards ow er. Maybe
he's a shooting guard. And I remember one time I
got on a flight from LA to Vegas and Quinn
Cook if you guys remember him from Duke He had
a cup of coffee with the Lakers, more than a
cup of coffee probably, and he was on the fight

(01:58):
and I could instantly place him. And this guy I
kind of look like that like frame the build, and
he just looks super young. I was like, oh, this
is like some young maybe two way contract guy. Maybe
did Giligue got I don't know. I could. I couldn't
place him. So I he was sitting right in front
of Coward. And then I get off the flight and
I'm talking to another guy from FS one, Shady McCoy.

(02:20):
He was on the flight too, and he goes, hey,
did you see my boy Bryce Young? And I like
stop walking in the airport, and I'm like, sheez, that
was Bryce I knew. I knew that face. And then
I started to register like, oh my gosh, Bryce Young,
what the heck? How young does he look? How small
is Bryce Young? I was stunned. I mean he's obviously,

(02:42):
you know, he seemed like a nice guy. I was
friendly to everybody. But like, I was stunned. I mean,
I'm I like to think of myself as five ten.
It's probably closer to five nine, and I'm probably uh,
one seventy five maybe when I've been doing a cycle
of creatine up to one eighty. There's no way Bryce
Young is hist two hundred pounds, guys, zero chance of that.

(03:03):
I'm sorry, I would I would bet against that if
he got on a scale today. He's just he's not
a big guy, and I cannot believe he's an NFL quarterback. Anyways,
I didn't talk to him, but so, you know, New
Orleans is my first time here in a nice little city.
Here's the weird part. I don't totally know the city,
and I'm just like, oh, I'm gonna go out and

(03:26):
get a burger. Let me like chat, GPT some good
food plays, and I start walking around the streets, you know,
and there's some fans in some areas. And then then
I'm like on streets like by myself, and I'm like thinking,
oh wait a minute, I'm in New Orleans. Is this safe? Now?
It was in the middle, it was not the middle
of the day, was like evening and it was still
light out. But I'm just like, boy, Mike, is this smart?

(03:49):
And then later in the night, I get in ato
Uber I'm like, hey, man, I gotta ask is this
area safe like to walk around? He's like, no, just
straight no, And I was like, all right, well I'm
done walking around then. Anyways, New Orleans does seem like
a very walkable city, at least the parts I've been to.
I'll check out more before heading back. But obviously the

(04:11):
volume had a party and it was fun. I saw
a lot of people I hadn't seen in a while.
That's what you do at the Super Bowl. And I
will say the number that there were basically three questions
asked me at this party, and number one was are
you moving to Chicago? Because of the cow I saw

(04:32):
the cowards? Are you moving to Chicago? And I just
I don't know. I don't know. And then number two,
what the hell's going on at Fox? Like, you know,
big media company not answering that question either. And number three,
how on earth did you fill in for Coward when
he got sick the other day? Dude, he went down

(04:55):
in the middle of the show, and I'm listening or
watching whatever the people were saying. Multip people said this,
I'm listening to watching and it's like, how's Jason gonna
pull this off? And then he just starts talking and
it was like, oh my gosh, this is how's he
doing this? And I reminded the guy every single person
I talked about this, I'm like, well, I fortunately do

(05:16):
this podcast either the night before or the morning before,
so I'm well versed in the topic. And I got
a gift. Luca traded to the Lakers. I mean they're
talking about this being one of the most significant shocking
trades in the history of sports, definitely basketball, And so
I was ready. I had just tons of AMMO. I

(05:38):
mean I was locked and loaded, and I would like
empty the clip on a segment. I'm like, all right,
well we got next. I got more stuff. You know,
There's just layers and layers of this story and to
take it to the next level. I'm sure you guys
saw when Lebron had that awesome move the other night
and he flushed it. It was like a give and
go and he looks over to the bench at Uh

(06:02):
at Luca and he's like, we're going to do this.
This is gonna be us. And it was like, Oh,
he's fired up this idea. And I had people pitch me, Hey,
j Mac, I got you Lebron leaving the Lakers after
the season to go to the MAVs, and it was like,
that's an interesting tie. That's fascinating. I don't hate it.
It's outside the box. I like it. I definitely like

(06:23):
these kind of interesting angles. But I don't think Lebron's
going anywhere. He's got JJ Redick, he's got Luca, he's
got his son, all on the same team. Like, that's
not bad at all, isn't it. I don't see him
going anywhere.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Now let's get to the real big Oh, let me
quickly just say I was able to dig into Spurs
Hawks because I wanted to see what Dearon Fox had.
Dearon Fox in his debut twenty four thirteen five boards,
three steals. Now he did take He was eleven or
twenty two shooting, which is, you know, not high, not great,

(07:12):
fifty percent for a Guarden, not awesome. Two for seven
from deep. They get to win over the Hawks, and
it was like, you know, kind of sort of impressive
how well and up tempo they play. But what was
shocking to me was how the hell are the Hawks
keeping this close when their roster consists of guys like

(07:32):
Dominic Barlow, Keaton Wallace. They had this skinny white guy
and I'm like, is that Boogdanovich? Who is that? And
it was some cretchy some it felt like a billion
turnovers the box score and he says three. But the
fight from the Hawks, a Coongo was nice inside. He

(07:54):
wanted all the smoke from Wemby.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
He had thirty.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Recular game twenty four and twelve, but he was in
some foul trouble through four. I gotta say that was
like an exciting game. Now I'm looking at the three
pointers attempted the Hawks attempted forty two and I'm sure
just give me a break if you win the game.
It was good basketball. Anyways, Let's get to the big story,
and that's Jimmy Bucker. Jimmy Buckets. Jimmy Bucker, Jimmy Buckets

(08:24):
is getting shipped from Miami to Golden State. Jimmy Butler
traded for a package that is just like what Andrew Wiggins,
Dennis Shrudter, Kyle Anderson and a protected first round pick.
That is a weak haul. But that kind of shows

(08:46):
you just how bad it was in Miami for Jimmy Butler,
for Miami to take a deal that. I mean, Dennis
Shooter is a hired gun. I had to count this up. Guys,
are you ready? He's been on nine teams in the
last eight years, and he was on the Lakers twice.
At some point, Dennis Shruder has to look in the

(09:06):
mirror and be like, Yo, maybe I'm the problem. That's
why I keep getting traded every fricking year. I mean,
this is it. Starting in twenty seventeen twenty eighteen, he
played for Atlanta that he was on OKC for two seasons,
then with the Lakers that the Celtics traded midseason from
the Celtics to Houston. Then he lands with the Lakers again,

(09:29):
and in twenty twenty four he has played for He
played for Toronto and Brooklyn, then he started the season
on Brooklyn, shipped the Golden State, and now redirected to Miami.
I mean that is just shocking. Anyways, Obviously, the Heat,
there is a video of the Heat bench getting informed

(09:50):
by a fan that Jimmy Butler has been traded, and
it looked like there was like actual happiness on the
bench of the Heat because they been dealing with this
Jimmy Butler thing. He's got a nice win, by the
way over the Sixers. Tyler hero continues his incredible season.
He had thirty, Nikole Jovich. Yovich had twenty three, Scary

(10:12):
Terry twenty and it's like, Okay, that's a solid win
without Butler. I actually think there's a world where this
team gels a little bit. Wiggins can kind of fill
that role that they lost with the Martin kid, where
they don't have like a wing, like a three in D.
They don't have a prototypical three and D. High Smith
can't score, Duncan Robinson can't defend. Wiggins, can like do

(10:35):
both of those. You know, Yovic is probably has an X,
but he's still like, I mean, he just looks undersized.
He's only twenty one. I'm sure this is you know,
we get Wiggins for a year or two, mentor this kid,
this kid backs him up, and then Yovich takes over
in a year or whatever. So overall, I don't hate

(10:55):
the deal for Miami. It's not a great return that's undeniable,
not for a guy like Jimmy Butler was taking you
to the finals twice. But that being said, is there
really any excitement over Jimmy Butler to the Warriors? He
told them a week ago, I'm not signing a long
term extension there. Now he has to turn tail because

(11:17):
Miami said, I'm sorry, Phoenix is not giving us anything.
We're not taking Bradley Beal. They needed someone else to
step up, and the Luca trade is what really helped
Jimmy Butler because now when Luca went off the table,
then went Fox, then went Levine and there's really only
one guy left. Golden State needed to do something. Remember,

(11:40):
Golden State was like, let's keep I mean, this is
it's just such a turn of events. It's almost like
Miami was that desperate. Think about this, Like two weeks ago,
Steph Curry implores his team, Hey, let's not spend, let's
keep our powder dry, Let's wait for the summer. That
Jimmy Butler says, I'm sorry, I don't want to sign

(12:01):
with Golden State. Don't trade me there. And now it's like, hey,
you got no other options, So it's deal with Golden
State or stay in Miami and be unhappy. And folks,
I gotta be honest, I don't even know that the
Warriors are a playoff team with Jimmy Butler. And I'm
a huge Jimmy Butler fan, Like, is he an overall

(12:22):
upgrade over Andrew Wiggans? Sure, but is he a significant
enough upgrade to vault them with They are currently eleventh
in the West, half a game back of Dallas, half
a game back of Dallas, Phoenix and Sacramento, so it's
a bit of a log jam. But Sacramento just got better,

(12:42):
Phoenix has not gotten better and now is to deal
with the Kevin Durant fallout. Dallas is theoretically better once
Anthony Davis returns. And I'm just saying one of those
teams that gets left out of the play out of
the play in is going to be really pissed. And
Anthony Edward's better stay healthy because at seven, the Timberwolves

(13:02):
are barely clinging to that seventh spot. And I didn't
even mention when Bin Yama they got a nice win
to pull within two games. If you had to ask me,
I would say the spurser making the playoffs. I again,
I just watched a little of them last night and
it was like, I mean, Castle looks good, Vassal looked good.
Now it was against the Hawks, but I like what
they got. I maybe the Kings are in trouble, although

(13:25):
the veteran leadership of z that my guy Zach Lavine and
DeRozan should be good enough. I mean, some one of
them is gonna whoever they get the eighth seed is
gonna go up against the thunder be heavy underdogs. But
I could already tell you the narrative in the media.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
Is well, okase, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
I mean, Phoenix has a couple of stars. Dallas has
Can you imagine Dallas Okac in the first round a rematch?
Didn't did that happen last year? I think that yeah,
Phoenix got swept by somebody. I've got to look it up,
because you know, it's been a long day, and off
the top of my head, I don't know the answer
to that. But Phoenix is going to be a potentially

(14:13):
scary team next in the playoffs, assuming they make it,
because again, and this is not splitting the atom, they
got a lot of freaking talent.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Man. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup
in the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports
Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR
to listen live.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
Phoenix did not lose to Okasee. They got swept by Minnesota.
I was in Nashville for the weekend of Game one
and I remember like looking at a screen and just
being shocked that Anthony Edwards was giving the business to
Kevin Durant and talking trash to him. Minnesota beat him
by twenty five, twelve, fifteen, and six smoked him. I

(15:03):
mean it was and this is not that different of
a Phoenix team, folks. I'm just telling you, I don't
know what to I mean, if they get swept, how
many times did Kevin Durad have to get swept? Remember
he got swept by Boston right when he was in Brooklyn.
Kevin Durray, he can't be a top ten player at
this Ray guys, he can't. And I'm a huge KD fan.

(15:24):
Now where it gets Oh, I forgot. There was another
trade on Wednesday, and it's not as significant, but it
was Chris Middleton, who had a tremendous run in Milwaukee,
including a chip he got shipped to the Buck. The

(15:45):
Wizards degitstations for Kyle Kuzma, and Holy cow, as I'm
recording this, a news of another trade has broke. The
Toronto Raptors have somehow acquired Brandon Ingram in exchange for
Bruce Brown. Remember how he was good like a couple
of years ago with the Pacers. Yeah, I haven't heard
from him at all. Kelly Olinik a first round pick

(16:05):
and a second round pick. So the Raptors, I guess,
trying to, you know, get a good player, and Brandan
Ingram was a good player. He could be a three
hunerd title winner. I mean, you know, he might ideally
be a four or a sixth man. You know, your
first guy off the bench who's instant offense. I think
a sixth man. I think of Vinnie the microwave Johnson

(16:28):
from the Detroit Pistons way back in the day. The
real ones will remember that as they say, I don't
really know what that deal does. I mean, that's the
Pelicans getting out of the luxury tax, the Raptors saying,
all right, we'll take a good player. We're probably probably
not going to get Cooper Flag, but we'll take a
good player. And then the other deal was valid Judas,

(16:55):
who had been a target at Lakers and Lebron. He
goes from the Wizards to the Kings. So the Wizards
made two moves. They got a Valanchounis and Kuzma. Oh
my gosh, well the last one out of the Washington
Wizards building. Please turn off the lights because it's over
this team. They're the worst team in the NBA nine

(17:16):
and forty one of the Wizards. They're point differentials minus thirteen.
Oh my gosh, it's real. And that's after three straight wins.
Holy hell. So let me just read if you want
to laugh. We'll wrap up the podcast with this. Here's
the Washington Wizards depth chart post trades. Jordan Poole at

(17:37):
point guard. You know him, shooting guard is a rookie.
Bilal koula lobby. If he delivered you door dash tonight,
you would not have any idea. Who that is? Chris
Middleton and them all forward, Keishawn George I think he
went to Baylor at power forward, and Alex Saar another
young guy at center, the backups, Malcolm Brogdon, Oh my gosh,

(17:57):
remember when he was Rookie of the year, Bob Carrington,
young kid Corey Kispert, who you know, was a lottery
pick and everybody told them, hey, old guys in the lottery,
it never works out. They did it anyway, didn't work out.
Kispert was a baller. I think Gonzaga, Justin Champagne and
then Rushawn Holmes. Folks, listen, man, these guys are nbas,

(18:22):
are professionals. They could destroy me in basketball, but that
is just such a you know, you add Cooper Flag though,
and they're going to sell out to season take us
next year, because that's how big of a deal Cooper
Flag is. Anyways, it was a hot and heavy Wednesday
on the NBA trade front. No real NFL news to report.

(18:45):
I saw a Chad Pennington jersey walking the streets yesterday,
which a little surprising. Yeah, not a ton of you know,
it just isn't a whole lot with the Super Bowl
and storylines. It's like Andy Reid, I'm coming back, guys,
I'm not retiring. Travis Kelsey, I'm not retiring. I'm coming back.

(19:08):
Like those are two storylines just wiped off the board.
The three peet we know. And then there's like Nick
Sirianni Jalen Hurt Sayqua Barklay, like these are just mid
If it were Detroit and Buffalo or like Lamar Jackson
getting the Super Bowl, I just think it would just
be a different vibe about the game. Like think about this.

(19:30):
This week's getting saved by the NBA trade deadline. Obviously
that'll change come Sunday. But that's kind of where we
are now in sports.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
All right.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
We are back Manyana with a bunch of props. I
bet some really dumb props for the Super Bowl. And
I think I told you guys this. I found a
tickety You gotta know, every July August I go to
Vegas do a bunch of gambling stuff and I have
a ticket of Eagles beat the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

(20:00):
And let me call it up here and give you
the odds. It was at the time it seemed a
little crazy again August twenty eighth, but Eagles to defeat
the Chiefs in the Super Bowl was plus fifty nine hundred.
It would be a nice little payday. It will cover
an upcoming vacation. Well maybe just no, it'll cover a
good portion of the vacation if it hits. So I'm

(20:22):
rooting Eagles obviously. I posted O the IG if you care. Anyways,
we are back tomorrow with a bunch of prop bets.
Talk to you then,
