movies and TV.

Democratic National Convention. And last night was so jam packed
with speakers that even music legend James Taylor got bumped
for time. Yeah, but good news, We've got him on
our show tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Yes, James Taylor will be here.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
But first let's get right into our coverage of Indecision
twenty twenty four.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
It is D two of the DNC.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
All of the delegates are gathered from across the country
to participate in this most hallowed and sober minded democratic process.
So let's go live with our own Ronnie Chang.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Ronnie Ronnie.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
A lot of major players there tonight. Who are you
talking to on the ground. You got Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders,
Doug m Hoff.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
No one doesn't.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
No one would talk to me at all.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
It's live.
Speaker 5 (02:46):
They're not even taking me seriously.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Why do you think that is?
Speaker 5 (02:52):
It's pretty obvious racism.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Yes, yes, definitely racism.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Thank you, Ronnie, Ronnie Chang everyone. Okay, that was immensely unhelpful,
So let's go back tonight.
Speaker 6 (03:10):
One.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Last night was all about President Joseph retirement. Biden and
everyone came forward to toast the man of the evening,
including a surprise appearance from the woman who's been taking
measurements in his office, Kamala Harris, and I.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Want to kick us off by celebrating our incredible President
Joe Biden.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
We are forever grateful to you.
Speaker 7 (03:34):
For President Biden's lifetime of achievement. We owe him a
great debt of gratitude.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Thank you to Joe Biden.
Speaker 8 (03:44):
Thank you, Joe, Thank you Joe, Thank you Joe, and
God bless you.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
We love you.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
That is that is so nice.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
I mean even Pelosi was chanting, we love Joe, and
she's the one who pushed him out of the race.
It's like the iceberg waving goodbye to the Titanic.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
Thanks for everything.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Now, before President Biden came out to speak, we got
to hear a powerful speech from Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton,
the former Secretary of State and the reason you have
a trauma response every time you.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Hear this is my fight song.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
She made a case for Kamala Harris while making the
case against Donald Trump, although there was one moment where
she also sort of became him.
Speaker 9 (04:51):
The first person to run for president with thirty four
felony convictions.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
As by president.
Speaker 9 (05:02):
As Vice President Pamla sat in the situation room.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Well well, well, looks like the lock them up bee
has become the lock them up er. Look at that smile.
That's the smile of a woman going.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
I get it now.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Sometimes it feels good to be bad. I thought Hilary's
whole speech was very moving. In fact, she killed it,
although it will be ruled a suicide. On the other hand,
(06:02):
over in the right wing media world, they had a
major complaint Hillary Clinton.
Speaker 10 (06:07):
She's the most joyless person I think was ever walked
on this earth. That speech of just like her kind
of like stalinist negative half screaming to the crowd.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Come on criticizing Hillary for being joyless. Why don't you
go post a Harambe meme on Vine?
Speaker 4 (06:26):
You're twenty fifteen piece of shit.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
But if conservatives hate Hillary not smiling, I'm sure they
love Kamala, who was all smiles last night.
Speaker 10 (06:43):
Kamala Harris came out on the stage, all the laughing.
It's like she got into the sherry or something.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
Come on, guys, Hillary doesn't smile enough. Kamala smiles too much.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
You know what.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
You don't get an opinion on this, Okay, you get
to control.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
One hole on women's bodies, not too and you pick
one off. Women can't win this.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Right here is exactly where I'm going to have that
plastic surgery where they remove your mouth entirely.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
It's just it's just easier. It's just easier.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
But let's move on, because remember this is Joe Biden's night,
and it's actually starting to get a little bit late.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
So let's get to Joe Biden.
Speaker 11 (07:31):
Please welcome former Rhode Island Governor Gino Raymondo, Robert Garcia,
Dick Durbin, Doris Johnson, Jesse Jackson, Tony Goldwyn, Steve Kerr,
Sean Fame, and the.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Words for the great American poet Nellie.
Speaker 7 (07:48):
It's getting hot in.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
Here, Okay, yeah, I guess we had time for a
Dad bod strip tease. Guys, it's really getting late now,
so let's wrap up the other speakers and bring out Joe.
Speaker 8 (08:11):
Please welcome Congressman.
Speaker 11 (08:13):
Jim Clarver, Raphael Warnock, Kathy Hogel, Alexandria Ogasioko Fez, Seami Ruskin,
Jasmine Crockett, Chris Coons, and.
Speaker 8 (08:23):
I want to talk with you for just a few minutes.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Jesus Christ, is.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
This still going on? No disrespect to Chris Coons, but
Chris Coons, it is almost midnight. Mom has got to
get to bed, and you know who.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Else has to get to bed, Joe Biden. For the
love of God, let's hear from Biden.
Speaker 11 (08:50):
Please welcome Ashlee Biden, not that Biden.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
It is eleven o'clock. You can't be introducing new Joe
Biden's right now? Do we have to go through the
whole family? Is Commander Biden gonna come out after? It
was so late By the time Biden actually got on
(09:20):
the stage, even the right wing pundits were insulted.
Speaker 9 (09:23):
A sitting president pushed out of prime time.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
It was incredibly disrespectful.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
I mean, no matter your politics or how you feel
about the current commander in chief, he is the current
president of the United States.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
I almost felt badly for him.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Is the ultimate slap in the faith?
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Is this really how you chat someone that you love?
Speaker 5 (09:38):
Not just think that's the scot.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
I'm sorry, I'm very confused here.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
Do you guys hate him or not?
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Joe Biden is a corrupt leader of a crime family
who stole the presidency, and how dare they keep him
up past his bedtime?
Speaker 4 (09:57):
Thunder the.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
But finally, finally, Joe Biden took the stage at eleven
twenty six Eastern Time, which is late. Although I will
remind the East Coast media elites at Fox News that
there are other time zones and I'm in one right now.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
I like it here.
Speaker 9 (10:31):
Now.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
You might expect that by eleven twenty six, Joe Biden
would be coming to the stage in pajamas in one
of those old timey sleeping hats. Instead, he gave his
most high energy performance in a long time.
Speaker 7 (10:45):
Putin thought he'd take keev In three days three years later,
Ukray is still pray Shiny in another surpassed in the
United States. They I haven't noticed. No one's said, ain't
not now.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
He never built a damn thing. Who in the hell
does he think he is? Who does he think.
Speaker 7 (11:06):
He is not worthy of being commander Chief period.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
Not then, not now, and not ever?
Speaker 8 (11:21):
Who?
Speaker 4 (11:23):
Oh excuse me? Is it getting hot here?
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Aside from bringing the energy, he also brought all the fields.
Speaker 7 (11:36):
I made a lot of mistakes in my career, but
I gave my best to you for fifty years. Like
many of you, I've given my heart and soul ornation,
and I've been blessed a million times return to the
support of the American people. But I hope you know
(11:58):
how grateful I am to all of you. Spend the
honor of my lifetime the serve as your president. I
love the job, but I love my country more.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
This was one of Joe Biden's finest moments. He was forceful,
he was selfless, he was patriotic. Honestly, it almost made
me wonder if maybe we should go back and Oh Jesus, Nancy,
damn it.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
I take it back. I take it back.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
For more On Biden's Big Night, we go Live to
Troy Wata.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
Troy.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
After Biden gave that great speech. Do you think Democrats
might have any regrets?
Speaker 4 (12:58):
No?
Speaker 1 (13:00):
I mean no, no, no, not at all.
Speaker 8 (13:03):
They appreciate everything Joe Biden has done for them, but
they're also happy he's gone.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
And that's why I'm here at the greeting card store.
Speaker 8 (13:10):
I'm looking for something that says we love you while
also saying, do not come back. Nancy Pelosi gave me
a thousand dollars to buy one with just the right message.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
Nancy Pelosi give you one thousand dollars to buy a card.
Speaker 8 (13:24):
Yeah, she doesn't know how much things cost, you know. Also,
I think she thinks i'm her assistant, Steve. What makes
you think that she keeps calling me Steve? So anyways,
here's one.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
It says.
Speaker 8 (13:47):
Thanks for the memories, and just to be clear, we're
not going to make any new ones.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Or there's this one.
Speaker 8 (13:56):
This says you've done so much for us and we're
we're all good now.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Thanks.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
Wow, Hallmark's making very specific cards.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
How about this one?
Speaker 8 (14:08):
It says, don't cry because it's over, Smile because it happened,
but just to reiterate, it's definitely over.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
I don't know, Troy, that seems kind of mean, well,
here's one.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
To my dear president.
Speaker 8 (14:26):
Thank you for your years of service, but what I'm
most grateful for is your statesmanlike surrender of power. You
will be enshrined in the history of our nation.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Who Yeah, that was beautiful.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
It sounds perfect.
Speaker 8 (14:42):
Yeah, but the comic it's in comic sans font So
all right, Troy.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
We need you back at the studio. So to just
pick a card, any card, Okay.
Speaker 8 (14:50):
All right, David Blaine, calm down, forget the cards. I'll
do what I normally do, and just when I think people,
I'll just bend know him twenty.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Dollars, Troy.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
Nancy Pelosi gave you one thousand dollars.
Speaker 8 (15:01):
Okay, fine, The best I can do is twenty five, Troy.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
Want everybody when we come back, the best thing, Jane,
that's the convention floor and coming up the great James Taylor.
So don't go away. Welcome back to the Daily Show.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
The Democratic National Convention is in full swing and the
delegates are feeling good. So our news team went over
to see if anything could ruin the good mood.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
Everybody knows I'm known for my positive vibes and happy,
go lucky attitude, so let's go talk to us some
left wing here at the DNC. Every convention has a five,
and this year's Democratic Convention is all about the vibes.
What's the vibes at the convention?
Speaker 4 (16:10):
Upbeat, spark sparkling, positive.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
I'm all about the motivating vibes.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
Are you feeling electric?
Speaker 1 (16:18):
I do feel electric? Chop do, don't do who that's
a little electric arc. That's real postal vibe, electric, top
tier vibe. I went like viral like last week for
having good vibes.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Walking down the street.
Speaker 6 (16:34):
There are people who have nothing to do with the DNC,
have nothing to do with the campaign, and they're talking
about the campaign.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
It just feels like it feels like we're gonna do this.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
Oh god, it feels so good. It's almost as though
the Democrats won't pick this up.
Speaker 8 (16:47):
You, either of you recall a crime when the vibes
were so high from a political event.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
No, no, not really.
Speaker 5 (16:55):
No.
Speaker 8 (16:55):
For me, it was when Patti Leavelle couldn't find for
background singers at.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
The Nati Dietrich net Folk.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Yeah, I'm hoping for another one of that to happen here.
Let's say it together one and two, three.
Speaker 9 (17:10):
Where.
Speaker 5 (17:13):
The vibes are great, but should they be the country's
in serious trouble and we don't know how COMMONA is
going to fix any of it. Maybe the Democrats here
will want the chance to drop the vibes and talk policy.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
Manufacturing jobs may be disappearing. Those guys are not disappearing.
You know what you're reading if you're reading this book
to garbage.
Speaker 5 (17:32):
Wow, Okay, forget the policy and let's go back to
the vibes.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
Who do you think Kamala should pick for the Secretary
of Vibes?
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Janet Yellen screen of Carpenter O Sabrina Carpenter.
Speaker 8 (17:44):
Do you think that vibes are more important or would
you say policy is more important?
Speaker 1 (17:48):
As I don't know if you really understand politics that much.
I work in politics. Do you mind if I cop
some of your vibe right now?
Speaker 4 (17:56):
Which one would you like?
Speaker 8 (17:57):
This one?
Speaker 5 (17:58):
A patriotic one with some of these notes you maybe
we don't want to talk.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Policies and let's sing it together. Harmonize with me up here,
for we're going to get there.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
Which you'll vibe of the Common Border policy?
Speaker 8 (18:17):
You know, I really appreciated the way that she spoke
to it during her rally in Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
It's an economic issue. You cannot just say that we.
Speaker 8 (18:23):
Need to deport or newly inn immigrants like Dadie vanst
I know it's extremely important, and I feel like she's
put forward meaningful policies and Republicans have shot them down.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Republicans are all about politics and red and blue. A
public policy major, I want to find solutions. We literally
had a bill on the table and Republicans.
Speaker 5 (18:38):
Said, no, you're really killing my vibrant, good talking.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Nor wonder we'll be joining me on this show follow.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
My performance with Welcome back to the Thank You Show.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
My guest tonight represents the fourteenth District of Illinois in
the House of Representatives and is the co founder of
the Black Maternal Health Caucus. Please welcome Congresswoman Lauren Underwood. Well, well, wow,
(19:52):
you got a lot of fans here.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
Thank you, Thank you for being here. I'm so excited.
Welcome to Chicago.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Well, thank you, it's great to be here. They love you,
thank you, thank you as they should as they should.
I am so inspired by all of the work that
you do, so having you here is a real treat,
and especially being here in Chicago. I couldn't imagine a
better guest.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
You have quite a few firsts.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
You are the first woman, the first person of color,
and the first millennial to represent your district. Yes, you're
also the youngest black woman to ever serve in Congress. Ever,
(20:46):
now there's another woman that is on the cusp of
some firsts.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
Do you have Kamala Harris? Sorry? Does she have you
on speed dial for advice?
Speaker 6 (20:58):
Well, you know, it's been so interesting welcoming Vice President
Harris and so many folks from around the country here
to Illinois. It's made me reflect on conventions of the past.
You know, this is my fourth Democratic convention, and so
in years past, some girlfriends and I would travel. We
called ourselves social delegates here today, so we were here
for the vibes, for the parties. We had a great time,
(21:24):
you know, obviously as proud Democrats, but also really doing
some professional development.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
Yes, you at the convention. You spoke last night? How
was that? How did it feel? It was beautiful? The
speech was really exciting.
Speaker 6 (21:39):
We were able to talk about so many healthcare achievements,
you know, the way that I've been able to work
with Vice President Harris and President Joe Biden to lower
out of pocket healthcare costs with the American people are
successful legislation that allows Americans to access health plans for
ten dollars or less per month. It's now law, and
(22:02):
obviously my work with Vice President Harris to advance and
address the issue of maternal health in this country.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
You actually have a combined eighteen pieces of legislation that
were signed into laws since you entered in twenty eighteenth,
and many of them eighteen.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
Is a lot, a lot, thank you, thank you, that's.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
Incredible, and so many of them were health focused. That's healthcare,
maternal health specifically. What inspired you to want to focus
so much of your work on that.
Speaker 6 (22:39):
So I'm a registered nurse, spent my career working to
expand hoard thank you in community to cross our country,
and I've really seen firsthand the impact of the high
costs of healthcare. So many people can't afford to see
a provider if they get an unexpected diagnosis, they can't
afford a procedure, much less get the medication that they need.
(22:59):
So I really took advantage once I got into office,
of course, the opportunity to lead and make sure that
we were taking action to realize the promise of affordable
health care through the ACA, and so obviously have really
been successful to advance legislation, and we've had the lowest
number of uninsured Americans in US history.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
Wow, that's incredible.
Speaker 6 (23:28):
In Congress, we say we put people over politics, and
what that means is we're focused on lowering costs for
the American people, but also making sure that in healthcare
we're taking the opportunity to address longstanding disparities, especially disparities
and maternal health. What I'm talking about is in our country,
black women have been three to four times more likely
to die of pregnancy related complications in their white counterparts.
(23:51):
It's devastating. I had a good girlfriend die in twenty
seventeen after delivering birth to a beautiful baby girl. My
friend's name was Selan Irving, and so I knew that
when I decided to run for office and if I won,
this would be an issue that I want to work on.
And so in Congress, I've been so honored to partner
with great leaders like then Senator Kamala Harris to introduce
(24:13):
groundbreaking legislation, historic legislation called the mom of US designed
to address every clinical and non clinical factor contributing to
preventable maternal death in this country. And we've been successful.
We've had one of our bills signed into law.
Speaker 8 (24:35):
I mean.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
An internal health feels like an issue that should absolutely
be bipartisan. Shouldn't there be over an overwhelming amount of
support for these things.
Speaker 6 (24:47):
Well, the issue itself absolutely is bipartisan. We are seeing
so many families recognize themselves in the story, and so
this is an issue that touches every zip code, every
state in the country. We have tremendous disparities meeting poor
outcomes and rural communities, you know, folks who are unable
to get the quality of care or the choice of provider.
(25:09):
We believe that if you want to see a midwife,
or want to get a dula, or need some help breastfeeding,
no matter where you live in this country, you should
be able to access those resources.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
And right now you can't.
Speaker 7 (25:22):
Can't.
Speaker 6 (25:24):
So you've been able to work together as Democrats and
Republicans to be able to advance this legislation, and we're
looking for the first legislative opportunity to get the whole package,
the whole mom to us signed into law.
Speaker 4 (25:37):
Yes, so you're living to God's here and.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
It's an issue that doesn't just impact women. People talk
about these issues like their women's issues. These are family
issues that they impact everyone.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
That's right. And it's an economic issue.
Speaker 6 (25:51):
You know, when we think about this upcoming election, I
really think about issues like maternal health, like health care
is being on the ballot, and so as we all
go out and vote. But if we want to lower
out of pocket health care costs, we have to vote
like it. If we want to make sure that we
can all access high quality, comprehensive health care, including reproductive
health care, we'd have to go vote because by saying
(26:14):
at home, by saying at home, we're allowing the extremists
to win, and we know the path that they want
to take us down.
Speaker 4 (26:25):
Speaking of extremists, Yes, Jdvans, Yes.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
And others have been responsible for quite a bit of
anti woman rhetoric.
Speaker 4 (26:35):
Yes, what do you make of all of this?
Speaker 6 (26:38):
You know, it's so clear to me that JD. Vance
has a deeply rooted pathology when.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
It comes to his hatred of women. I'm really hope
he's going with therapy.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
I really do.
Speaker 6 (26:52):
It's so clear that he needs therapy. It's clear to
me that you know, we might laugh, but he does
not belong in the White House.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
You know, I grew up.
Speaker 6 (27:08):
I grew up here in the great state of Illinois
in the nineties, and you know, we had the fortune
of having the Oprah Winfrey Show on TV twice a
day here in.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
The Chicagoland area, Yucky.
Speaker 6 (27:18):
And one of the great guests that she would always
have on was Maya Angelou, who taught us that when
someone tells you about themselves, you believe.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
Them the first time.
Speaker 6 (27:27):
Now, Jadie Van has told us about his dangerous extreme
policy agenda for American women, and it's up to us
to believe him right now and to reject it and
make sure that we go out and vote.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
I heard that your parents are here tonight.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
Oh yeah, oh.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
Boy, you must be very proud of your daughter, very proud.
Good job, mom and dad, you did a very good job.
I heard that your mom said that you have always
been quote unquote unquote a good girl.
Speaker 6 (28:26):
Yes, I do.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
I'm almost a follower. I can't help it.
Speaker 10 (28:29):
You know.
Speaker 6 (28:31):
My heart gets starts to raise if I sort of
color outside the line sometimes, yes, I understand.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
As a fellow rule follower, good girl herself.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
I sometimes like to rebel a little bit by doing
wild things like doing crossword puzzles in ink.
Speaker 11 (28:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
Wow, like that moving on the edge. Would you ever
do something like that? What's your how do you act
out when you want to? Kind of well?
Speaker 6 (28:53):
I love reality TV, especially the show Survivor. Oh yeah,
there's a lot of parallelsen that particular show in my workplace,
and so I get a lot of inspiration from the
great heroes and villains of reality TV.
Speaker 3 (29:08):

vanderd Pump Rules. You vote Survivor, you go like it
still involves democracy always.

Right now, with Kamala at the top of the ticket,
now you worked very closely with her, what was your experience,
like you.
Speaker 6 (29:37):
Know, Kamala Harris is an incredible leader. I can't wait
for the American people to get to know her as
I have. She is warm and smart and funny and kind.
Kamala Harris cares a lot about the maternal health issues
that we spoke about earlier. That's how I came to
know her. But as vice president, she's really taken action
to invite folks over to her home.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
And she loves to the party.
Speaker 6 (30:01):
And at the end of her you know, engagements and affairs,
she gives you a parting gift. Now that's a sign
of a good party. Oh.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
Her carting gifts are.
Speaker 6 (30:10):
These beautiful candles. She has these custom candles. Now, you're
a millennial woman. I'm a millennial woman, and we know
that we love a candle. Can we just say I
love a candle, I love the candles.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
Who doesn't love a candle?
Speaker 6 (30:25):
And so I was inspired by her gorgeous scent in
her candle to launch my own candle line. And of
course it's called Domestic Tranquility.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
I mean, as though you're not busy enough, you have
a candle line, yes.
Speaker 6 (30:41):
