Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast. Good
morning everyone, thank you for joining us for today's morning run.
It's Wednesday, April ninth. You can get our morning run
every day Monday through Friday, guaranteed by six thirty a m.
Good morning.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
I'm Amy Robots and I'm TJ. Holmes, and we are
so committed to that six thirty that today this morning
run is a bit of a mile high morning run.
We are looking at the Rockies right outside our hotel
window this morning. Yes, we have relocated to Colorado for
a couple of days, but still that means now that
the morning run that's guaranteed for six thirty Eastern time.
(00:38):
We got to have it ready for you by four
thirty where we are. That's our commitment. We just want
you to know, Yeah, you.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Can see the Rockies right now because it's pitch black outside. Yeah,
all right, good for you've got incredible eyesight.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Then, all right, boy, folks, Yes, we always appreciate you
running with us, and what a morning run we have
for you today. This is the day that Trump's terrace
actually went in to effect. When an effect that men,
so buckle up. Also, we're keeping an eye on the
death toll and that nightclub roof collapse in the dr
Also that measles outbreak keeps growing. Also a rare wind
to tell you about for news organization that challenge President Trump.
(01:12):
Also the head of the IRIS is quitting, the third
one to do so this year. And Robes. What a
testament to the popularity of white Lotus that a company
has now had to put out a statement about its
product simply being in white lotus.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
That's right, and people are still talking about it. We
were talking about the White Lotus again last night. It's
just the finale and the series that just have people talking.
So we can't wait to get into all of that.
But we begin this morning our run this morning with
what the world is talking about right now. Yes, it's official.
President Trump's additional tariffs on US imports took effect as
(01:48):
of midnight today.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Dozens of countries are now facing fairly significant terrorists from
the US. Trump charging most countries half of what they
charged the US to import goods. However, this is not
the case for China. This is a okay. So Trump
did hit China with new tariffs of thirty four percent,
then China hit back imposed a reciprocal thirty four percent
tariff back on the US whether Trump then doubled down.
(02:11):
He has now added another fifty percent tariff on Chinese
imports on top of all that.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
So here's the math for you. What that all means.
All goods from China are now officially subject to a
whopping one hundred and four percent tariff, and that comes
on top of the tariffs that were already in place
before Trump's second term. Someone put out there that it
could be some goods could have one hundred and twenty
percent plus tariffs on them. It's incredible. So what did
(02:39):
China do well? China has vowed to fight until the end,
but White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said yesterday President
Trump has a spine of steel and he will not break,
adding that the Chinese want to make a deal, they
just don't know how to do it.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
But the White House said tariff negotiations are underway between
Japan South Korea. Trump says, we are going to get
a fair deals and good deals with every country, and
if we don't, then we're going to have nothing to
do with them.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Wow. Those are fighting words and words that the markets
are not happy to hear. Next up on the Run. Yes,
even though the markets began the day Tuesday on an upswing,
news that Trump was not budging on his tariffs contributed
to another vollatle day on Wall Street. The Dow Jones
actually rose more than fourteen hundred points in early trading
to wind up down three hundred and twenty points and
(03:30):
at a fifty two week low.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
S and P down one point six percent yesterday, Nasdaq
Fill more than two percent. Both, however, had rallied more
than four percent earlier in the day. So it's that
kind of voluntarily a bunch of up and down stock
futures as of this recording, and I looking so good today.
Signs were pointing to another drop at the start of
Wednesday trading.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
All right, next up on I Run. The President kicked
him out of the Oval office. But now a federal
judge says President Trump has to let one news agent
back end.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Talking about the Associated Press, it has prevailed in court
against Trump to have its full access restore the White
House bar the AP you might remember from being among
the small group of journalists who have access to the
President in the Oval Office and on Air Force one.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
What began all of this well, the decision to restrict
the AP's access came after the organization, you may remember,
refused to go along with President Trump's renaming of the
Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. So the
AP now sued to regain access on First Amendment grounds,
and yesterday a judge sided with the Associated Press, saying
(04:37):
you can't punish a news organization for its content.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
However, even though this was a victory for the Associated Press,
the judge's order doesn't go into effect immediately. He actually
gave the White House a week to try to do
some kind of filing and respond in court. We're not
sure what they are going to do, but this is
a rare when Trump has been in court and continues
to be in court against a lot of news agencies,
quite frankly, and he has come out victorious and a
few of them. This is a rare case where journalists
(05:03):
took on President Trump, and at least right now the
period of one.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Yeah, the AP said that it literally could not do
its job that it is supposed to do to report
on what Trump does, and says, to question Trump, to
question the president, to not have access to him doesn't
allow them to do what their job actually is, so
we will see what happens with that. But next up
on our run, a really sad story to tell you
about the death toll continuing to rise as that work
(05:28):
continues around the clock to find survivors of the nightclub
roof collapse that happened in the Dominican Republic.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Ninety eight people are now confirmed dead. This was a
growing death toll during the day yesterday. This tragedy has
shocked the island nation. Hundreds of people were gathered for
a concert at the jet Set nightclub in Santa Domingo
in the early morning hours on Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
People were partying inside the one story club when the
roof suddenly collapsed on top of them. Rescuers have been
digging through the rubble, believing there could still be people trapped.
An investigation is underway into how this all happened in
the first place, but a lot of sad headlines, a
lot of stories about who was in that building at
(06:11):
the time, and word has come out that former Major
League Baseball player Octavio to Tell was among those killed.
Apparently he was rescued alive from the rubble, but sadly
he died on the way to the hospital, and there
were just so many tragic stories like his unfolding with
just word coming out about who was there, and so
many questions about how this could have happened.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
There were a lot of friends, family, prominent folks, frankly
like in Oxevio Totel, who were at this night club.
It's apparently a very popular place. It's been there, kind
of an institution, but it's a one story club. When
I first heard, a lot of us first heard about
a roof collapse, thought people were partying on a roof
and maybe there were too many people and it got
way down and they all fell down. No, no, no, no, no.
(06:52):
These folks were inside a building and the roof just
fell down on them. That is a much different dynamic
of a tragedy. So they're still hearing, they say they
can hear and have heard people in that rubble, so
they're trying to get to them. But two hundred and
fifty plus people are confirmed Andrews had to go to
the hospital. This is an incredible tragedy that the video
in the pictures there's just a hole right in the
(07:15):
middle of this club. From that aerial shot. It's this
was an awful, awful tragedy there and how this happened, right,
god Lord, but that will probably be a growing death toll.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Yes, now that's expected to be for sure.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
All Right, we will continue the run here on this
Wednesday morning with the IRS. You know, it's tax time.
It's coming. We're less than a week away from the
tax filing deadline, and nobody seems to want to be
in charge of the IRS. Yes, the head of the
agency is quitting.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Yeah, Melaniekrauss, according to multiple media reports, is stepping down
as acting commissioner. But here's the other big part of
this story. She's the third person to head the agency
this year. Did we mention it's only April. The previous
acting head of the agency step down last month, and
the commissioner before that resigned in January. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Word of Krause's resignation comes after the agency agree to
share data with Homeland Security, which they will then use
to track down people who are in the country illegally. Yes,
you heard that correctly, And that was the other major
headline yesterday that now the IRS is going to give
data to the Homeland Security to help them kick people
(08:29):
out of the country. Here or here illegally. Now, this
is the way this could possibly work. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement ICE would give the names and addresses of immigrants
to the IRS, which would then use tax records as
a way of cross verification.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Though they may not have legal status, millions of undocumented
immigrants do file official tax returns with the government each year,
and they're estimated to pay nearly one hundred billion dollars
in taxes. So I think a lot of people think
of illegal immigrants as folks who don't pay their taxes.
That's just not the case. But my goodness, knowing that
this is happening now, it might be it might de
(09:04):
incentivize people who are in this country illegally to legally
and to contribute and feel like maybe they're actually doing
the right thing by paying their taxes and saying, you
know what, not worth it, not worth it. So we'll
see how this story ends. But yeah, we probably need
somebody to head the IRS, especially during this time of
the year.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Turmoil is a right word for that a lot if
we were just talking about the head. But there are
a lot of senior officials who have stepped down, who
have left, who have been fired. That's just been turmoil
in all this, and did we mention though we probably
didn't have to, but yes, this is a lawsuit that's
gonna be challenging. What's happening with the irs giving data
to Homeland Security? All right, stay with us here on
this Monday Morning run. When we come back. We've been
(09:44):
talking about that measles outbreak for weeks. It continues to
get worse. Will give you the very latest there, and
heads up, folks, there's gonna be a.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Little bit of a spoiler alert.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Here to tell you a story about a company who
now has to explain why it was in such a
prominent place in the season finale of the White Lotus segments.
Welcome back to this Wednesday morning run and for this
(10:16):
next leg, we're going to talk about the measles outbreak
in Texas. It has now surpassed a new milestone. It'scrossed
the five hundred mark. There have been twenty four new
cases confirmed over the past five days, bringing the total
now to five hundred and five.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
That's right, and three people have died, including two children,
all were unvaccinated, but fifty seven others have had to
be hospitalized from the measles. Of the five hundred and
five cases. The overwhelming majority of them were unvaccinated. Just
seven people had been fully vaccinated and still contracted at
the disease. So far this year, the CDC has confirmed
(10:51):
a total of six hundred and seven measles cases across
twenty one states, and they say that number is very
likely under these are people who have actually just been
officially documented as having measles.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
And the AGHS had RFK Junior told reporters yesterday that
the federal government's position, my position is that people should
get the measles vaccine, but then he added, the government
should not be mandating those the vaccine is ninety seven
percent effective against measles and fully vaccinated people.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
Now, RFK Junior took some flag for actually for people
who believe that we should be looking into the vaccines,
who supported his lot of what he had said earlier
about concerns about vaccines, health concerns about vaccines. They were
upset that he then endorsed this vaccine. So then we
heard him backpedal a little bit and say, yeah, the
government should not be mandating Thus. However, however, everyone involved,
(11:45):
at least in many of these organizations, these health organizations
say vaccination is the only way to keep measles in check.
In fact, it had been eradicated considered eradicated since two thousand,
but since vaccination numbers have gone down, there's deep concern
that we may be whittling away at all of the
(12:06):
progress we may all right, coming up now on the
final leg of our run, you know we had a
feeling this might happen. We are hearing from the Homo
Pliants company Bosh after the season three finale of The
White Lotus.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Okay, heads up, everybody, really, if you haven't seen it, really,
that's on you at this point. Come on, everybody's talking
about White Loatus. It aired on Sunday. It's Wednesday, folks.
You should have seen it by now.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
So.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
But still heads up. A little bit of a spoiler
alert here. So there is a plot in the final
episode where adjacent Isaac's character Timothy uses a blender to
try and poison his entire family and himself in a
murder suicide attempt. In this episode, there's a close up
of the blender that is used extensively to make protein
shakes throughout the entire series, and you can clearly see
(12:50):
that it is a Bosh brand blender.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
That's right. So Bosh has publicly reacted to its product
being used in such a dramatic scene, and really east
this statement. While we're very appreciative of the creative flair
and immense popularity of the show in the United States,
BOSH is clarifying that the Bosch product featured was not
provided or placed by the company. However, we can confirm
(13:15):
that the production team did purchase the product on their
own while filming abroad. Yeah, they were distancing themselves, but
not entirely upset by the free publicity.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
But why do they even feel that's necessary to say, yes,
it was ours, but we didn't have anything to do
with giving it to them. What does that clear them up?
It's a show, they it's creative license.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Why it's it's bizarre to me that they feel like
they need to somehow distance themselves because the scene in
which it was used was a Burder suicide plot, so
they don't want to be associated with that in any way.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
But they are forever sorry.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Yeah, I mean, and it's funny because it really there
really was a close up and it's everywhere online. But
you don't need to put out a statement. In my
humble opinion.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
But does this you said the free publicity here, But
does it make you It doesn't make me want to
buy a Bosch blender. It doesn't turn me off from
buying a Boss.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
I think they're concerned that. You know, we now see
a lot of times in movies companies paying movie producers
and production teams to put their or place their products
to get publicity. They're saying, hey, we weren't looking for it,
we weren't seeking it out. It just so happened to be.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Okay, Bosh, you know after the statement, Now, now I
don't want to buy it. But I'm kidding, Bosh, I'm kidding.
I Am just kidding. But this is a different reaction
than what we got from Duke University. Remember this, they
were featured by the same character in a different murder
suicide scene. Actually correct, he was pointing a gun to
his head and wearing a Duke T shirt. This is
(14:40):
a dream sequence. He of course, Duke North Carolina played
very prominently in this show. The family, all the members
there went to Duke Ord North Carolina. So Duke made
it clear it does not want to be associated with
the White Loaders in anyway, saying having characters prominently wearing
Dukes federally registered trademarks creates confusion and mistakenly suggests an
endorsement or affiliation and where none exists. I guess I
(15:02):
get that, But what do you do?
Speaker 1 (15:04):
That smelled a little bit of a potential lawsuit.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
When they use words like a federally registered trademark.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
Yeah, whoop see. But you know what, I just think,
at the end of the day, don't they say there's
no such thing as bad press?
Speaker 2 (15:18):
I can confirm that there is.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Yeah, we were going to disagree with that statement, but
some companies live by it.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Hey, folks, all on this Wednesday, before you take off
and start your day, something we'd like for you to
consider it is our quote of the day.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Yeah, we kept this in the white Lotus theme. TJ.
You pointed out this quote and we loved it. This
was from Chelsea Amy Lou Wood is the actress's actress's name,
but this is what she said to Rick, and it's
something that we can all take to heart today. Stop
fixating on the love you didn't get, think about the
(15:54):
love that you have. That is a really nice sentiment.
It was a beautiful moment. There were several utiful moments
in the season finale of The White Lotus, so.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
You can take out love and insert a lot of
things there. We fixate on so many things in our
past or something we didn't get, and we don't appreciate
what we have. And it was a very cool moment
and the sweet thing. And I wrote it down as
soon as she said it, and it was a great quote.
Nick can be applied all day. It's not just again.
The writing in White Lotus is phenomenal and this is
another one of those that you can take with you.
I think it was beautifully done.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
All right, let's hear it one more time. Stop fixating
on the love you didn't get, think about the love
that you have. And with that, we hope you have
a wonderful Wednesday. Everyone, Thank you for running with us.
I'm Amy Robots and I.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Am DJ Holmes. We'll see you tomorrow for one last
Rocky Mountain run.
