Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello puzzlers. Let's start with a quick puzzle. What do
these three people have in common? Actress Brie Larson, rapper,
Swiss Beats, and sitcom Dad Herman Munster. The answer and
more puzzling goodness after the break, Hello puzzlers, Welcome back

(00:30):
to the Puzzler podcast, The Loyal Vallette for your mid
level puzzle nobleman. I am your host, A J. Jacobs,
and I am here with chief puzzle Officer Greg Fliska.
And before the break, Greg we ad.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
I'm sorry, I'm just you had to you had to
be a mid level puzzle nobleman.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
I just not a regular nobleman just because I'm a
mid level I didn't want to be pretentious. I just
you know, I'm a regular guy, a regular nobleman, protested Vallette.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Sorry, go ahead.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Yeah, yeah, I think a Viscount Marquis.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
That.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
By the way, it was one of our guests who
will introduce momentarily. But before the break, we asked, what
do these three people have in common? Actress free Larson, rapper,
Swiss Beats, and sitcom Dad Herman Munster. They are all, Greg,
I have I have a good idea. Yeah, they're all cheese.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
They all have cheese in their names, and Swiss and
the other one.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Munster, exactly all cheese homonyms because Brie is spelled correctly,
but Swiss is with di Z's and Munster is missing,
and maybe regardless, they are all cheese related names. Today
is National Cheesecake Day, so I thought it was important
to highlight for our cheese loving listeners and cheese cheesemongers

(01:53):
out there. But admittedly it does not have a huge
amount to do with our guests who happen to be awesome.
They're my friends. They're comedy geniuses. Cindy Kaplan, Karen Bergreen.
Welcome Cindy and Karen.

Speaker 5 (02:07):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Karen and Cindy are wonderful. You can see Karen's stand
up on Comedy Central The View. She's authored two novels.
Cindy is a hilarious author and sings delightful songs, including
ones about the Donner Party. A very upbeat song about
the Donner Party, my favorite upbeat Donner Party song.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
In fact, thank you now.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
The other thing I happen to know about both of you,
I believe it's true you both have dogs. In fact,
your book, which we could see in the background. Oh no,
it's not your book, it's your one of your your
Cindy of Arc poster has your dog in the little
little head cone. Do you know what I'm talking about?

Speaker 4 (02:50):
Yes? Oh I do. I do.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
It's not okay, yeah, and you I love your your
bit Karen about when you come home after a long day,
how your dog treats you. You remember, I do.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
It's my dog and he tells that joke a lot.

Speaker 5 (03:11):
My dog.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
And she peas when you get home. That's a nice compliment.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
It's so good.

Speaker 6 (03:17):
I'm telling you, like, if I lose the game, I'm
gonna leave, come back, live, come back just to.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Like get just to see her peace several times.

Speaker 7 (03:25):
Yeah, because it's amazing like that sh like it's like shoot,
I mean honestly, if somebody loved you that much that
they peed you like, it's an amazing feeling.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
What I feel like with you guys here, I've laughed
so much, so flattering.

Speaker 5 (03:40):
Oh that's good. That makes just because I didn't tow.

Speaker 6 (03:43):
I don't mind that if it's from laughter or love,
because they're both they're connected.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
AJ.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Can I just say why my dog has a cone
in the poster? Yes, it's because he's the baby Jesus,
but my dog, and he's riding on the back. He's
like he's riding on the back of my horse because
I'm Cindy of Arc, which is like Joan of Arc
and I'm wearing I'm wearing armor and I have my dog. Well,

(04:09):
he's not really baby Jesus. He's kind of like the
baby Jesus, but it's like one of those it looks
like he's one of those illuminated babies from from old
dog and it's like a yes, he's like a dog angel.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Makes sense. See, I'm learning, always learning.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Well, this is a dog based puzzle. This is just
for you.

Speaker 7 (04:30):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
And the type of puzzle is called charades. Now it's
not acting charades because that doesn't really work on podcasts,
but it's the original charades. The original charades were literary charades,
they called them, and you would get clues to parts
of the words, the syllables and the words. Jane Austen
used literary charades in her novels. So I'm going to

(04:53):
give you clues and you put the parts together and
you'll get the breed a famous breed of dog. So
here's an example. Winnie the blank and voodoo blank. So
fill in the blanks, Winnie the who oh you got it?
Yeah poo, and then voodoo blank voodoo yes, yeah, I know,

(05:20):
dotal All right? Are you ready? So you keep an
open mind because it is a puzzle. It is. They're
not going to be exact, all right. This is a
shopping centers collection of Earl Grays and Lipton's, a shopping
center's collection of Earl Grays and Lipton's. I know, Oh,

Speaker 6 (05:47):

muck dumb mall cheese.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
That's it, mall teese. You get teas at the mall
and you get the maltese, which is part of Karen's
dog so lovely. All right, This one's actually a little story.
Are you ready for the little story? Suppose you're in
the army and your commanding officer said, who wrote the
Brandenburg Concertos? You might respond with this two word phrase,

(06:17):
who wrote the brand So who wrote the Grand Brandenburg Conservators?
Who was the Oh, Cindy's got it.

Speaker 5 (06:23):
The first half?

Speaker 4 (06:24):
Yeah, what's the second half?

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Well, when you're talking to a commanding officer. Get it, Oh,
I got it too, Okay, say it, yes, sir, exactly,
So Johannes Sebastian.

Speaker 4 (06:39):

Just as we were moving out, a man can hasty
stall to stake another round.

Speaker 5 (16:50):
This time many are way things. Boy, there was a
big misting.
