eight eight eight big vox are eight eight eight six
two four four eight six ' nine, we do see
your texts. Person who says good morning to all of us,
(01:10):
not knowing if we can see it, we do. Hello,
Scott and Lewisville, Mississippi. Already people critiquing the halftime show
from the super Bowl. Yeah, a lot of super Bowl
talk today. We were definitely recap that. So we'll run
that down. Stories from the weekend outside of the super Bowl,
we'll talk about that today. We'll get your phone calls
(01:33):
in and get your feedback. You know, what was the
best commercials? How did you like the game overall? Some
of the way it was presented, tons of pregame stuff,
halftime show. Wow, okay, never never, never felt so old
and out of touch?
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Was that Serena Williams dance?
Speaker 1 (01:55):
But I think it really now? I think so. They
only showed her for like a little I didn't understand.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Well, that's Serena Williams.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
We'll unpack it all on this.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
Yes, that was her.
Speaker 5 (02:07):
Okay, they were like also Serena Williams for some reason.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
And then Samuel Jackson kept yelling at everybody.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
I don't know what that was.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
That was my favorite part, frankly, actually it was. I
could understand it, Yeah, that's true. I could understand everything
he was saying. Unlike Kendrick, I could not understand. I
don't think anything that that he was saying. Look, I
don't know. I'm not anti for I just don't well,
I'm not a fan of that type of music, and
especially when they're rapid fire. You know, I can't understand.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
He was spitting fire, Yes he was.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
When when we spit fire, you kind of lose me
because I don't know what you're saying. Yeah, you're you're
the closest to this, uh, this type of modern day
you know. To Greg's point, even if you took me
into the genre of hip hop and rap, which I
there's a lot of it, I actually like. Yeah, but
even in that category, I didn't like this for the
(03:03):
reason that being a lyric person, I want to hear
and understand the lyrics, whether I like them, don't like them,
agree with what the artist is saying or not saying.
I can't even have an opinion when I can't understand
what they're saying. And I can even say that about
death Metal, absolutely understand.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
There's been plenty of super Bowl performances and I don't
follow that that type of music, but I like good performances.
I'm like, well, I might not follow that person, but man,
that was a great performance. This one. It kind of
kind of struck me as a little low budget odd
if I can say that, it's just like it was
just now. Some of that was refreshing, that it didn't
(03:44):
have a bunch of stuff that we always make fun of.
It was just here we are, We're gonna dance and sing.
But even my boys were because you know, I thought, well,
it's just because we're old and out of touch. But
even them in their low twenties, they were like, yeah,
you know, really digging that pars and people laying on
top of the street line, Now that was neat.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
That was well the what was then it got yeah,
that's nice. The lewd level was that one girl could
thing whenever she got.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
She did, yes, says she did great.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Didn't understand what what her role was, but she did.
She sang, well, she did good singer. But we'll unpack
the whole thing where there's a lot to unpack. Friends,
I will say, for the first time in a long time,
my wife and I will talk about our anniversary. Today.
We decided to go ahead and kind of say, hey,
let's start anniversary since it's going to be on a Monday.
(04:36):
And so we got all our snacks and got all
our stuff, and we sat down and watched together and
really watched almost three hours of pregame all the way
to the fourth quarter of the game, and at forty
to six, Big Papa said, I'm not sure. I'm not
sure this is by the way, let's talk about that
for a minute. Well, the Philadelphia Equals They sure did
seem angry.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Sure, they sure did.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Defensive line said, I'll tell you what, that was an
angry bunch.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
They wanted it. They want they wanted it.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
They sure were angry.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Wow there that their fans took over the stadium and
so did their team. Yes, absolutely, it was they They
were they were not going to waste this, this opportunity
that was given to them to try to ride or
wrong were they were not? It's like that.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
The offensive line for the Chiefs looked at my Home said,
I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do. It can't help. Yeah,
I'm sorry. Was there ever a point that that you
any of us? When was the last time you saw
the modern day I mean, they'll go down as one
of the dynasties in the NFL modern day Kansas City
Chiefs my Home's error. When was the last time you
seen you saw somebody dominate them like that? This is
(05:45):
the first time I can't remember.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
I think they were saying it's at least his worst
game statistically in five years from a home.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Man, you know, because I kept thinking, because I have
so much respect for them, Hey, they're they're about to
They'll get back in this game this, Hey, wait till
they come out second half.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yeah, that's what it is.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
What we kept saying, we had a pocket which didn't exist.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Now, I do want to congratulate Jc. He won the
Wilburn Famduel, which we had one hundred dollars went to
the family member that that guessed the score or the
winning team and closest to the he had the Eagles winning,
uh and scoring in the thirties or whatever. So he won.
But that the family was invested. I mean, we were
(06:30):
all in it and we were having just a fun
time together. But I noticed what Tom Brady was saying
about about Mahomes and his and his feet. He said,
if you if you notice, he's not getting settled. He's
he's moving his feet around because he's he knows he
didn't have time and here they come. He was never
comfortable at all.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
He was trying so hard.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
He was that Eagles front. I mean they they just
came after him and said, here we come.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
And you cannot written do anything about it. I want
you you try try to go back to being twenty
two years old. It's much harder for us than it
is for Ander, but try to go back to being
twenty two, Okay, I mean I have children much older
than that, Okay, substantially old. And it is your birthday.
You just turned twenty two years old, and you intercept
a pass from Patrick Mahomes and return it for a
(07:21):
fan base like Philadelphia for a touchdown that really started
the onslaught. Everybody thinks that tend to nothing. Nobody even
thinks this matters? And or was it seventeen deathing when
he picked it? Was it ten to nothing? Did he
make it.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
Seventeen talking about mcjean or whatever?
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, I mean it's his birthday. He's twenty two, twenty two.
I'm turning twenty two today and I pick off my
homes and by the way, played an outstanding game overall.
But can you imagine that moment when you're running down
the field in the Super Bowl for the Eagles. You know,
because they can love or hate you, but in this
moment they love you with everything they have. And it's
(07:59):
your twenty second birthday. God's cool? How about this?
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Never did Jean? Yeah, I said, Mick Jean mc geen, whatever.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
But let me tell you what. He now becomes a
me monster of birthdays. You could never have a birthday
story better than no, you can't, you can't. Yeah, and uh,
I mean the fact that he picked it was enough,
but he returned it for the next right when he
got about the ten, I thought, well, he's not gonna
get it. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Yeah, Uh that was kind of neat to see that.
And how about how it started, because you know the
rumor of all the chiefs and the referees, and then
how it started with a j going down the sideline
and they're called offensive pass interference or whatever that he
pushed off.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
You're going to be surprised. I think it was the
right call.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
Yeah, because he grabbed the face, because he went the face. Yeah,
I guess that started everybody going here we go.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
But I just I thought, that's not a not a
bad Yeah, early on you established that, Yeah, but the
but then of course, you know, it was just it
was incredible and because you know, if you want your
wife to watch it with you, and that may be
a lot of you may have rabid football fan wives,
but for me to get my wife invested, there have
to be good storylines, which is why we got involved
(09:09):
in the pregame. Yeah, so I could so I could
get her all in and she was completely in. She
was literally crying as the kid was running the test.
And it's his birthday, right birthday, that's Brodie. I was like, yeah,
wait a minute, Brodie just.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
Turned twenty three.
Speaker 6 (09:28):
He's younger than Brody.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
So I was wasn't it Bartley's birthday?
Speaker 7 (09:33):
Soon?
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Yes, it was? It was.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
It wasn't really that that pick six made it seventeen
to zero.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Oh yeah, big moment, Big moment because you think, you well,
I can't see and they score right here because you
know the Eagles are rolling and but what a moment there.
It is. It's your birthday right there, It's your birthday,
and it's the Super in the Super Bowl. By the way, this.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
Do do we want to go ahead and go all in
right now? Do we want to reflect back? I think
the audience that's already ready there's so much to talk about,
so much and thankfully and I think we're all kind
of in the same boat. Like I said, I'm pretty
(10:25):
much ready to have a comment on anything. From three
hours before the game started. Now, I did not bounce around.
I did my whole pregame with Fox. I didn't go
to I didn't go to ESPN, or jump around at others.
I usually do that because I like watching I didn't
go to the NFL channel. I usually like watching old
Super Bowls for some reason. Well, I guess you have
(10:47):
to credit Fox. I gave them a shot and they
kept me. Yeah, they and uh, And I thought, now,
I don't want to overdo this. And it's something that
that we discussed at home. It it felt like maybe
I'm wrong. You know, there's a euphoria right now in America,
whether whether you admit it or not, that Trump is
(11:09):
a man of action and he's making things happen. Boy
is he? You know, when we seriously are talking about
Gulf of America and we're openly considering Canada's the fifty
first state. I mean, when the Panama Panamanians are saying,
we'll stop charging for y'all to come through here because
y'all are serious about taking the Panama Canal back. So hey,
we won't do that anymore, you know, making Mexico crumble,
(11:32):
Canada crumble on tariffs and things like that, talking about
turning Gaza into Riviera. I mean, this is not this
is not mild change, Okay, going in to all these
government agencies and taking waste and revealing the absurdity of
how our tax dollars are being spent, and then we'd
be willing to change that. I just talk about it.
(11:55):
It felt like even from those that I would normally
say are leftists, I didn't say they went all in.
And I'm sure some of you will point out where
I'm wrong and and don't think I paid attention to
every second of everything I'm talking about. In general. In general,
it seemed like what was coming at me was either
neutral or it was a little more patriotic than than
(12:18):
I have seen in the past. And I even like
I was thinking to myself, oh no when they said
Brad Pitt's going to do a thing, Oh no, Tom
Tom Cruise is going to do something. But I'll be
I watched both of those and I thought they were
really well done, and I found them to be entertaining
and in movie yeah, okay, I like that. Yeah, and uh,
(12:39):
you know, so Tom Cruise surprised me. I didn't know
they had another mission Impossible coming right, Yeah, and I
missed that. Okay, so I need to art. They really
are good and I don't like wait on them to
come to the theater, but I usually end up watching them,
and I'm entertained every day. Uh and hey, can I
tell everybody it's kind of like, you know, how we
pick up on how announce was get stuck on something.
(13:01):
We're all fully aware that Tom Cruise does his own stunts.
We got it, Okay, so it's just.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
A week he broke his legs stunts.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
We're fully we're fully aware himself.
Speaker 7 (13:14):
Right.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Yeah, So and that is impressive. But I can only
say it's impressive so many times got it? Yeah it is,
It's it's established, it is.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
But Tom only But I feel what you're saying.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Yeah, I thought I thought Fox's presentation could because it
was Fox. But the entertainment Fox, though usually has been
more than willing to go to the left. We're not
talking about Fox News here. But they did promote Fox
News in it, you know, so they there was a
new new promotion plan. There was a lot of Fox
News drop ins there, and I thought that their presentation
(13:46):
was good.
Speaker 5 (13:48):
I missed Tom Cruise, but I did see Brad Pitt,
and Brad Pitt got me jacked up, I mean, you know.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
And he was in that building that's been in so
many movies, you know, where they where they walked down.
Where is that? It's you know, it's been in so
many movies. Even for some reason, one that sticks out,
that weird elevator. Yeah, it was when Jack Noxon did
that Wearworth movie. That's the office he worked in, by
the way, Okay, yeah, And for some reason, I don't
know why I'm remembering that, but I tell you why.
I may remember that. You know, I think that was
(14:13):
one of the first dates that Sherry and I ever
went on. I took her to see that movie. Really, yeah,
did you really?
Speaker 3 (14:19):
How did you feel? Because everything was New Orleans? I
mean everything, I mean, so, how did you feel?
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Like the NFL?
Speaker 3 (14:26):
I found myself bringing in the French quarters and all that.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Here here we go again, and I may, I may
just it be popular today. I had made a commitment
that I was done with New Orleans, that I find
it to be trashy and it stinks. They made me
want to go back. You can't smell it through the
TV now that hell, I found myself. I found myself
saying I'm giving new orders another show a trombone.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
I bet your dad had had a trombone party. He
got all the trombone he could ever want. Yes, I
enjoyed the trumpe. You know who else I liked? I
liked I liked Harry Connick Jr. I wanted to hang out.
He made me want to come back to New Orleans
hang out with it. Of course, I just come back
(15:12):
from n Roe, Louisiana, so I'd already come from Louisiana,
and I've been immersed in that culture. And I love
Louisiana and I love.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
The people I do.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
I love them. Let me tell you, those people are fantastic.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
And look.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Quite a bunch.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
I cannot I cannot, uh really give the security and
and the the game day and the New Orleans Police Department,
everything Trump come into town. I mean it was I
can't imagine the level of security the Secret Service had
(15:51):
and everything else with him coming to the game.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
And kudos to them, they pulled it off. I thought
Lauren Diagel was outstanding.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
Was it to New Orleans kind of like goofy? Did
it feel a little goofy? I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
I enjoyed it. And Batista, what's the guy who sang
the national anthem?
Speaker 4 (16:11):
I did, John Batiste?
Speaker 1 (16:12):
I didn't mind that it was a different arrangement. I
got it. I hate it, but he didn't try to
make it weird.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
It wasn't weird.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
I found myself a little bit moved by lady gog. Yeah,
that was good. We are now making everybody stand around
her piano was weird. Was bigger than her Ben.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
They're all very uncomfortable.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Can we get a smaller hat? I agree with that.
We'll be right back.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
I don't think we really have to take much on
the halftime show, even though we have an update on
something here that we didn't know about. But uh, but anyway,
we'll we'll talk about the overall game and continue with that.
Well we're already jumping in, but we'll go to phones
with you two. And and you know the commercials, It
was good not to have seen them before they right,
(17:07):
and so uh, let's talk about a couple of things
that that happened involving involving Trump. Uh. So he said
that he thought it was appropriate for him to be
at the super Bowl. He was there. Uh, it was
interesting to watch the Philadelphia Eagles fans. Now remember this
(17:29):
historic election, Trump won every swing stake. Mm hmm. That
that's big. But when when you see the Philadelphia Eagles
fans do two things. They appeared to cheer Trump and
boo Taylor Swift. Yeah. Remember Taylor Swift doesn't know what
she's dealing with. With Eagles fans. You just don't. You
(17:49):
don't openly be for the opposing team and they don't
care who who you are.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Yeah, well, they talked, they talked about it. The Chiefs
have been there so much here in recent years that
if you're a Chiefs fan, you got be running out
of funds. You're like, my gracious, we got to go
to another one. You know, some of you Collars fans
can uh relate to that because your team does so well.
But they said, so this predominantly Eagles fans because they're
(18:15):
excited about being there. And the Chiefs fans were like, okay,
we're going back again. You know, I ran out of
funds last year when we went. But but anyway, so, yeah,
you're right. Rick, when they chose showed him and during
the national anthem, he did get a huge He.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Got a pop and there were some people who didn't
like him, but they were most everybody. Uh, he got
a much better, bigger applause, like I said, than Taylor
Swift did. Uh. Now, Taylor Swift shouldn't feel bad. This
is the same bunch through snowballs at sounding Yes, yes,
very if you're tied to the I don't know how
(18:50):
they tied Santa to the post. I think they just
wanted to hit him. Snow well, they weren't doing well
in the moment. They didn't think Santa should have been
out there. Uh but uh so here's here's said.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
I want to hear the pop during the national anthem?
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Yeah, sure, sure?
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Oh is it scratchy for you?
Speaker 1 (19:09):
It is? That was a moving I like them showing up.
I like them show a military level all over the
country and around.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
The wall like that too.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
I was. I was moved by. So Trump signs the
proclamation declaring that yesterday was Gulf of America Day ahead
of the Super Bowl, and him quoting another big win.
So not only do we have it is now declared
Gulf of America Day by the President, we also have
(19:41):
some audio of a pilot announcing that we are crossing
into the Gulf of America.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
Right, yes, sir, this is on Air Force one.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
Right, this is on Air Force one. So listen to
the Air Force. One is currently in international waters the
first time in history flying over the regionally renamed Gulf
of America.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
We've enjoyed a flight and we are now about.
Speaker 8 (19:59):
To have watch down.
Speaker 9 (20:02):
Wow, you did that well, he did that well America
Gray again, Right, that's what we care about. Okay, here
we go.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
There goes go for America.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
There we go, signing it weird hand ride.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
Now, I don't just try to enjoy something. He's painting
a picture. Can't we enjoy golf.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
Try to take a sip of coffee and try to
enjoy it. A lot of things enjoy for America winning
for by the way, person on the I don't know
who you are.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
I need to go back and look on X. Before
I went to bed last night, I said, Hey, tomorrow
we'll be asking what was your favorite you know commercial?
What you thinking about the halftime show? And I'm gonna
tell you I got. I'm gonna look this guy and
he got. He got mad props from the audience. His
comment was so good. He said, see if I can find it. Okay, here,
(21:03):
here we go. I think I'm there.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
This is a comment to your post.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
This was a comment to my post and everybody was.
They were claiming at one point that he should be
recognized as his best. Oh, here it is. You won
the internet. Somebody said, here's it. Here it is his
name is should I should I say? Can I say
his handle? I just want to give him props because
it was a great, a great comment, and Core say
it it's at Todd and then it's something you ut
(21:35):
fan todd U t fan okay todd uh and listen,
worst halftime show ever. They should have just simply set
up a desk on the fifty and got Trump to
sign an executive order that it's funny. Well, speaking of
halftime performance, we also have a person and they say
it now, but it might have been one of the
(21:56):
Kendrick Lamar dancers.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Yeah, yeah, it was a performer at halftime.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
And held up a Sudanese Palestinian flag there and taking
it away from him. Let me tell you that that's
one of the dancers getting drug all. Well, according to
the story, that's one of the dancers. Now, the other
dancers they don't break formation. You have to give them
props for that.
Speaker 4 (22:16):
They kept dancing.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
It does look like they did. They jump down from
that stage because they're in black.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Are we sure that's a dancer?
Speaker 4 (22:23):
See, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
I just saw performers.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
They're inst among them amongst them.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Yeah. So if if you'll notice what he's wearing, it's
all black. I guess jumped suit of some kind. And
that's the stage is that they're all in all black.
Speaker 4 (22:38):
So he's he's on the car that Kendrick Lamar was on.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Oh yeah, okay, so he does jump off and do that.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
Well, maybe he started on the stage. Maybe he just
got on the stage.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
They say the individual hid the item and unveiled it
in it laid in the show. That's not late in
the show. Let's think it was pretty early. No one
involved with the production was aware of the individual's and
he stayed out there.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
For a while, still running around.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
There's a lady tried to get him.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Okay, there's really know you flags though. This is important.
This is important for those of us that think we
you know, they want to make sure.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Wow, he wishes he could run better.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
The entertainment company that produced Sunday night shows said they
wanted everyone to know this was neither plan nor part
of the production. It was never in any rehearsal. This
person used the opportunity. He is he's on the car.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
Yeah, he does, he does. He jumps up. He's one
of the performers there. There's tons of folks on stage, and.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
Somebody tried to get There's some stage manager that tries
to get him, but he jumps off the stage.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
I took watch. It looks like a lady comes out
and then here come all the suits and and then
they'll try to come out, but he does kind of
run around a little bit, a little bit longer than
you want.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
Well, do you think that the security was like, all right,
is this y'all expressing this?
Speaker 3 (23:53):
Since he did come on and if.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
You don't know what this flag is, it is like
a colorful flag might be part of that. But everybody
involved said, no, this was a plant that he They
never knew this person was going to do this. They
hid it from us. It was not part of the production.
There was no message we were trying to send in
the wood pile there you go. Yeah, so, and they
think it was a filled invader that might have even
(24:18):
got in with the rest of the dancers and got
himself on stage. The thing only have was a flag,
But I'm not sure.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
It looks like somebody that was just part of the
part of the crew, because that's a lot of people
to screen.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
There's one hundred people on the stank you. That's what
I was about to say. Y'all heard me say this before.
Anytime you're an organization that might be I'm not. I
think the reason why they didn't tackle them to begin with,
They're like, well, do you want this guy to y Yeah,
but anytime you you your group gets bigger and bigger.
It's Speedy's point is valid and it should be taken.
You don't ever want to get your group so big
(24:50):
it's impossible to vet and call everybody. Yeah, you know,
at some point if you get a certain number, there's
just too many idiots out there.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
You got an idiot with you, Yeah, you do. And
that's not a large flag that he had. So once
you get through the screening process, you've gone through security
and you've dressed.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
I mean, if you you know, you push a flag
down the side of your pants or something, or trained
in what flag that is, you don't know and don't
forget to. You also infiltrate into a show that needs
to get on and off the field without any delay.
So you've got everybody. Also, they've got lots to get
on off dress. Yeah, yeah, you're standing on that view
(25:27):
of Grand National, which I always like. Yeah, I think
I do.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
Think that was cool. They were all coming out of it,
and he just kept coming out of it.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
So check out this old lady that tries to get
I didn't. Here's a new angle of it. And this
old ladies, like a stage manager lady comes up. She
has like a clipboard and she's like, hey, you can't
do it.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
You can't. Yeah, I see that, I saw her. You're right,
that's a better angle of exactly what she's doing.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
So so no one knows. Everybody thinks he might be
part of it.
Speaker 5 (25:52):
Right now, just say suit in and go yeah it
does Okay, there you go.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
Yep. The people were saying also that I don't know
that it's true that this Gulf America thing is bigger
than Trump just trying to be patriotic, that the Biden
administration has some sort of language about drilling in the
Gulf of Mexico that he is also working around by
(26:19):
changing the name so they so drilling can take place
there again. I don't know. I don't know that. I
don't even know that's valid. I'm just telling that's what
somebody said. That's nothing. But as somebody said, okay.
Speaker 7 (26:31):
It's not that.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Yeah, that there's some strategy to it too, to be
able to drill and become energy independent. Again, Wow, what
a concept.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
Real baby drill some kind of situation.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
We'll be back. We're unpacking the super Bowl. We'll get
your phone calls as well, all things involving the super Bowl.
As the show rolls on.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
What do you think was the best commercial in the
super Bowl? We talked a little bit the halftime show.
There's just not a whole lot you can say other
than I think I couldn't really follow it. But one
thing that Greg mentioned that is interesting, and a lot
of this was in the pregame and and I certainly
have no issue with this, and I applauded, you know,
(27:20):
we're now this new thing is now. We we also
introduced the person who will sign the song and will
sign you know, the national anthem, and that there's a
person that is signing for those who are are deaf.
But Greg brings up a valid point, but they never
keep the camera on the person very much at all.
(27:43):
They don't put the person at the bottom of the screen.
What good does it do? Who flash you've missed? Like
a for Is this for deaf people in the stadium,
because the people, the deaf people at home, they're not
getting much.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
Is there a command on your TV that you can
you can say, hey that I need this or whatever
I don't have.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Yeah, you could just read it.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
I mean on your TV, there's another option. But you're right,
it might just be for those that are their lives.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
Did they make a big deal out of them? It
felt like they kept mentioning them.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
They did. They We introduced them now like you would
introduce who's going to do the coin flip? Look, and
I've had to explain I get it why they're so animated.
Oh boy, here we go. But boy, when they play music,
they really get animated. That's because you have to but
release no, I got one. I wanted to say that,
(28:39):
I'm not really what an interesting one? What an interesting movement?
Speaker 3 (28:44):
Gracious?
Speaker 1 (28:45):
But anyway, I just thought that, Okay, it showed them,
and then every now and then it was showing missed
a lot of the songs. If you're at home, didn't
seem to benefit. Now, if you were standing on the field,
and think about it. What if I'm in the nose bleach?
Can I even see what they're doing? I'm sure most
have something? Is there any way?
Speaker 4 (29:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (29:03):
I mean too, I don't know. Is this something that
we're going to now? I guess it's it is interesting
now because no one is signing this. I hope you
now can see what I'm saying on the screen because
I'd like to ask the deaf in our audience, are
you benefiting from this? I mean, is this enough signing?
Speaker 3 (29:20):
It seems like there wouldn't be a little square that
shows that person.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
They don't seem to show them enough for it to
make an impact.
Speaker 5 (29:28):
I think they might even have separate broadcasts where it's
like a split screen.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
Maybe maybe Okay.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
I was able to find this.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
From when Rihanna performed, and this is like a total
split screen where it looks like you got the broadcast
on one side and then the sign language person.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
But he's getting I'm not sure that's what that was.
I think that was just a dancer.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Oh my goodness, language for what I didn't think.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
I didn't think I understood language, But I'm incorrect.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
I'm actually pretty good understand some sign like.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Pretty good at it. So now it just that Greg
made a valid point, and I think maybe we just
don't understand it. It doesn't look like that there. I'm
perfectly great with it. Yeah, and I think sometimes watching
someone do that can be beautiful if it's not too strange.
But that's the different sign. That's the Napoleon Dynamite sign.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
You're not really doing it for deaf people, that's right.
But I just don't it doesn't seem like that the
the effort we put into that where they were giving
the people who need it enough of it. No, I agree, Yeah,
So I don't.
Speaker 5 (30:34):
Know's it does help the people in the stadium and
maybe and I think you can probably even sit close
to that person if you get like special tickets in
the stadium.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
You know, I think they probably make that available.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
No, you at the hardest job in the house is
if you're signed actually doing it for the halftime show.
He was up there, Well, they're trying to sign that.
You better be quick. Okay, cranky old man who didn't
understand the halftime show, look for y'all beat me up.
You're in No, I just couldn't understand I don't know
if he was protesting something or not. I have no idea.
I'm not you know, you're just offended. No, I really
(31:10):
don't know. No, he's a want to protest. At least
do it where I can hear you.
Speaker 4 (31:15):
He's a lyricist, Greg, Yeah, don't understand it?
Speaker 1 (31:18):
Well, then I should be able to hear them. Yeah,
person who says person on text? I understand what you're saying. No,
I don't think there's a lot of deaf people that
listen to us on the radio or an app, but
probably watching on YouTube. That's what I was addressing. And
you do have an option that you get subtitles and
all that, because the first time we ever went on TV,
we started just throwing out words randomly to see if
(31:38):
the people who were typing it we could could spell
it quick enough like hippopotamus, just throw it out real quick.
So I know there's closed caption for the the YouTube option,
and on some TVs that's kind of what I was
talking about. But I do know for a fact, because
I have, you know, been the point person on venues
(31:58):
and whether the the twenty year tour Man Church conferences.
I do know for a fact the Mister Lucky Tour
back when we did the Fat Chance Tour. I know
for a fact you do have to allow for people
who are deaf in the arena. I know that for
a fact. You have to actually hire uh the there's
(32:20):
some kind of technology that they wear and to enjoy
the show. I know that for a fact because I've
done it. Yeah. I remember thinking, so you think deaf
people are going to come to this concert? And they
were like, you have to allow for it?
Speaker 4 (32:35):
Really?
Speaker 1 (32:36):
Wow? So you remember that guy we knew we were
growing up. He didn't go to school with us, but
he rode around and he was deaf in his car.
I guess yes, and he'd be just because he could
feel the value. Oh yeah, I can feel the man.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
I mean you hear him coming a mile off?
Speaker 1 (32:50):
Yes you would. Yeah, that how it was.
Speaker 4 (32:53):
He was.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
He was one. He was a person that could answer
with an affirmative yes if he was ever screamed everybody
screening you think it needs it that loud? But yes
it does, and I do need it that loud. Can
you not turn nice? Why do you need it so loud?
Because I'm deaf, That's why? So could he hear.
Speaker 4 (33:10):
At one point so he knew what he was listening to.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
Or I don't think so. He just said he wouldn't
say he signed. He didn't the different ways the beat,
he said he can feel it on his boty, which
is cool, real loud to so loud.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
So what would he listen to?
Speaker 1 (33:27):
Mostly like rapper, like mostly cross anything. He wasn't huge,
and he'd be surprised how much he liked classic rock? Yeah, okay,
he really did.
Speaker 4 (33:38):
He really did.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
He have good taste, That's what I'm Yeah, he was
bored with Phil Collins in the Air of the Night
except for one little part.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
This song just got a lot better.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
It was like the wait to stay with it.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Right here.
Speaker 1 (34:04):
Uh so anyway, We'll we'll. People are talking about, you know,
that's true that Kendrick just Drake, but I couldn't understand.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
Does about the break they've had, this this back and forth.
Speaker 5 (34:18):
Yeah, they've got beef and they they had several songs
kind of go back and forth at each other, at
each other, we think, and Kendrick right right, it was
hard to understand.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
I'll think it was hard. And I'm a Kendrick fan, honestly, No,
I really am.
Speaker 5 (34:40):
In fact, I years and years ago, defended him because
he performed it.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
Like, who'd you defend him to to y'all?
Speaker 4 (34:48):
Y'all were making fun of me, and and I'm like, this.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
Guy's not bad. He did the pre show before the
super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (34:55):
He did yeah there something like that.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
I don't really have to be a fan of the
super Bowl halftime show. I just want to be entertained,
you know. I just want to be like, well, yeah,
that was a great performance.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Any more.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
Guests at one.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
Point said, who's going to help him?
Speaker 1 (35:11):
Somebody come out.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (35:20):
So we we talked halftime show. Some of you on
the text line are basically saying what we were saying.
We have this a couple of cuts from it. But
when people are saying things like great message, good job,
could could people honestly understand the message? I'm not even
(35:42):
being cranky old man here. I don't mean it doesn't
matter what.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
You know.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
People have different styles of music. They like all of that.
I didn't. I couldn't understand any of the lyrics to
the raps. I couldn't. I had no idea what this
guy was saying. And so I can't even agree or
disagree with the message, because I'm You're not alone on
the text option. Guys, I could not understand the message.
I have no idea what he was saying. If I
(36:07):
was supposed to be offended, I'm sorry, I don't know.
I don't know where I mean. He literally could have
been saying in his rap rick backstaff, bubba, I would
have never known, you know what I mean. I would
have never known, so I would have been I'd have
mentioned do heading was that pretty good? Pretty good being?
It's good? You know?
Speaker 4 (36:25):
Brother? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (36:26):
I like this. Do you hear what he said about you?
Speaker 2 (36:28):
Didn't get it?
Speaker 7 (36:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (36:29):
I had no idea. Show up about your mother too.
I didn't hear it about your mother.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
He at the very end, he did say, turn the
TV off?
Speaker 1 (36:39):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (36:39):
Did you all get that?
Speaker 1 (36:40):
I did? I guess I turned mine off? Turn his
TV off? Turn kick me off. Oh that's not what
I thought he was saying, turn this, turn the TV off.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
I didn't know what turn this TV. I thought, that's
I mean that the TV he's doing this like turn
is that his mind?
Speaker 4 (37:06):
Minds are a TV?
Speaker 1 (37:07):
Okay, because he's going to turn the TV off.
Speaker 5 (37:09):
Turned to TV off for the TV in our minds,
they said, the close caption actually was hilarious watching them
try to figure out what he was saying.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
That's from the tex stops right, Yeah, they said. The
people doing close caption could not follow it either, no way,
So I don't know what does it sound the back?
Is that poland po lang?
Speaker 3 (37:29):
I think I don't know.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
The jacket bother you?
Speaker 5 (37:35):
For some reason, I felt like, I'm like, your jacket's
too heavy for this situation.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
When you're gonna take it off your sweating.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
Yeah, well it's a jerk. Greg is a jerk. Hey,
I was when I watched it. I made the mistake.
You're not to believe what I'm about to say. I
actually tried to enjoy it. I had a pretty I
had a pretty good attitude. I thought, well, maybe the
production will be great, maybe the music will be great.
And like he said, the normally have secret guess they bring. Yeah,
(38:02):
like we were saying, Lenny Kravit, where where was Lynn?
Speaker 3 (38:06):
I was waiting for a spotlight to like go down
towards the end of the field, and I was like, yeah, something,
I'm like, there there's somebody.
Speaker 1 (38:14):
I enjoyed the pregame show much more than the halftime show. Yeah,
let me tell you that. No, the whole thing I
liked it. I did like the lady gagat thing I
loved watching is it Southern University? Yeah, unbelievable, like that
whole jazz deal. Harry Connick Jr. Trum Bone, Lauren Daigle. Uh,
you know, I loved all that. I just enjoyed every
(38:36):
bit of that. I liked Terry Reshaw with a big
T shirt and with a solemn faced walking.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
Time.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
Don't know what time.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
Even Roger Goodell bumped into each other, like anybody knowing
what time?
Speaker 1 (38:49):
Did he throw that shirt on right before you walk down?
Kind of took.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
Cringing and Tom Brady, I took your shirt.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
I don't know what we got there. Somebody gave and
Tom did not know he was wearing that shirt. Somebody
should put this on.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's.
Speaker 7 (39:08):
You.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
Don't coach the more get out of there. I was
wondering about that Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (39:14):
They never explained who that lady was. I don't know,
the mayor or something probably should probably know.
Speaker 3 (39:19):
That's the owner of the Saints.
Speaker 4 (39:22):
Saints owner.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
Oh, I think that.
Speaker 5 (39:26):
How many times are we going to have somebody walk
in behind the piano like it just kept happening, like
people kept walking into the shot behind the piano.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
Somebody bumped into her hat.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
Yeah, I just realized. But she's talented when she's not
doing weird things.
Speaker 4 (39:42):
Where are her eyebrows? Where are they?
Speaker 1 (39:45):
Well? I don't know, but let me tell you there
was some funny commercials. That guy with his eyebrows. Oh yeah,
that was funny. But we'll talk about commercials when when
we come back. But I want to mention the Tom
Brady thing completely. What is wrong with Tom's face? Something
has happened to Tom's face. It's right, I know you
(40:06):
can't see this year. It's right through here, Like he
comes down, his cheek bones come down, they sink in
and when they go to turn down, his face almost
looks like it's trying to point right through here. It's
like to come that weird. It's like coming to a
trying to come to a point. It's like it's like
(40:27):
his face is fighting itself. You know, it's like part
of his face is no, I don't look like that.
What's like that? Straight up? You need him straight on?
Speaker 4 (40:38):
So it's not all the time.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
But I do think that it's his cheekbone straight on.
I think that right here, and then it sinks in.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
That's it right there. If you look got shot and
looking at you, these two cheekbones, they're big, they're pointing.
They're coming together here and a battle is breaking out,
right and somehow they're trying to pull the chain.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
And then I wont if somebody broke down.
Speaker 1 (41:01):
Is not really in the fight, but they're trying to
get it in. And I don't know whether he's always
like that, and I've just seen him in the helmet
so much I didn't care.
Speaker 3 (41:07):
I think that's probably a little bit.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
Because she getting some work done. Is that what you're claiming?
Speaker 1 (41:12):
I don't know what. Don't look anything like Tom Brady, No,
I'm trying.
Speaker 3 (41:19):
It's extremely talented, but crazy as you can.
Speaker 1 (41:21):
Tom looks like he said should I took his shirt
in and in the middle of tugging it in and
was that leather pants he had on, I don't know
about Yeah.
Speaker 5 (41:29):
It's just every moment was I just felt corny. It
felt corny to me. I'm sorry it did. I thought
it was right there saveall clapping like.
Speaker 1 (41:38):
That, well, enjoying, enjoy. Bradshaw thought they were on the
way to eat crawfish. He's like, who's this woman into what?
You weren't moved by this at all?
Speaker 4 (41:49):
I was.
Speaker 1 (41:49):
I thought the song was really good. I did too.
I look that type of song, she's really good, and
she comes out with and all that. I went into
this super Bowl. I went into the Super Bowl with
I mean, I had zero critical attitude. I was like,
I'm just gonna enjoy myself today and and so if
(42:11):
I if I ended up not locking something, it had
to be really bad. Yeah. I didn't. I didn't go
on with a bad attitude about going I'm gonna pick everything.
I didn't have that attitude. And Okay, I figured it out.
Speaker 4 (42:23):
It's the editing on this Lady Gotta video. It's not
the song.
Speaker 1 (42:27):
It's not the message or even the hat.
Speaker 4 (42:29):
It's not even the hat.
Speaker 5 (42:30):
It's the editing and the crowd shots that are making
me feel weird.
Speaker 4 (42:34):
All right, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm sorry everyone.
Speaker 3 (42:39):
It's about bringing everybody together, tragedy, I know, it's about
and the also New Orleans things.
Speaker 1 (42:48):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (42:49):
So I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (42:50):
All right. People are saying that Tom Brady had some
sort of plastic shirt somebody with this text line is
know what they're talking about they do. I tell you
one thing, compared to social media people, they absolutely are journalists.
Speaker 6 (43:07):
At least these.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
People seem to be able to do a little bit
of Can I ask it back to Kendrick Lamar, When
did him and Drake like start hating each other and
him start calling Drake a pedophile and all.
Speaker 1 (43:17):
That he tried to explain to you I didn't like
in the last year.
Speaker 4 (43:27):
They had a huge back and forth.
Speaker 5 (43:28):
And so Kendrick played a couple of those songs those
so it was weirdly about Drake a lot called him
a pedophile. Well it's in this song. I think he
like held the mic up. He didn't say it like
you're saying it right.
Speaker 1 (43:40):
Well, that's just that's in the lyrics.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
This is the Rick Burgess Show, all right.
Speaker 1 (43:49):
So let's let's go to the phones. You can join us. Now,
what did you think about Super Bowl commercials? Now? I
did see that the new tally, which I'll add because
I talk a lot about when people say, well it
doesn't matter what I see in here, it ain't no
big deal. And I remember you say, do you really
think someone pays three four million dollars for thirty seconds?
Of your attention. You're in the super Bowl because they
(44:10):
think it doesn't matter. It's now eight million dollars, eight
million dollars for a commercial. So do you think these
people got their money's worth? Which ones did you like?
Which ones did you not like? Uh? And the lines
are available now. Tony in Georgia gets a started. Tony,
what did you think? What were the highs and lows
and the commercials?
Speaker 8 (44:31):
To me, that number one funniest commercial was that one
with Seal the singer and his his faces on that seal.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
I could not stop laughing.
Speaker 8 (44:44):
That thing was a hoo man one hundred percent. That's
number one the funniest.
Speaker 10 (44:49):
And also like the eyebrow guy yeah, I forget his name.
Speaker 3 (44:52):
Yeah, huge Eugene Levy, thank his mountain dew Baha blast
with the seal. And and then the other one was
a Little Caesars And and then also I believe Pringles
had eyebrow eyebrow themed commercial that was mustache? Was it
(45:13):
mustache mustache?
Speaker 1 (45:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (45:15):
Little Caesars was the eyebrow.
Speaker 5 (45:16):
I think we can get away with playing just a
quick snippet of Seal? Can we please play a quick
snippet of Seal.
Speaker 1 (45:22):
Tony hung up because I was going to ask him,
because there's two things about commercials. I was gonna ask
him what was the product? But he hung up too fast.
I'd love to know whether people even remember what the
product was.
Speaker 3 (45:32):
Okay, oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (45:35):
One, but he hung up. All right, So here here
it is if you missed it. It's sniff front of
when Seal. When Seal said he didn't think that it
was all that. Good night. Let's go to Craig. Craig,
(45:57):
welcome to the show. Commercials. What do you think?
Speaker 8 (46:01):
I particularly enjoyed the Harrison Ford cheat commercial, especially the
end of it.
Speaker 1 (46:07):
Where he said he lot heap even though his name
was Ford. Yeah, that's good. I loved that commercial. I'm
with you. I thought it was fantastic. And uh, you know,
to me, I really think that the celebrity stuff with
Harrison Ford, which was a commercial, but then the Brad
Pitt thing, the Tom Cruise thing getting us ready for
the game, I thought all that was really well.
Speaker 3 (46:26):
Then I enjoyed to hang out with Ford in that
cabin so bad.
Speaker 1 (46:30):
Yeah, the really look comfortable. A lot of people talking
about the I didn't see they they're saying there was
a lot of language. And the dunkin Donuts was that
the one with the Boston and they had ben Affleck. Yeah, yeah,
that one was so early and I was getting settled.
Speaker 3 (46:49):
I knew it was a language in it. Yeah, I
didn't miss that.
Speaker 1 (46:52):
I didn't catch that either.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
I thought it was funny, but maybe I missed the
language or something.
Speaker 4 (46:57):
I couldn't get into it. It's just okay, I mean
I Hadds running around like crazy. Yeah, it's almost like
you had. It was almost too clever.
Speaker 3 (47:04):
It's taking the number one slot and a lot of
the surveys.
Speaker 1 (47:08):
I couldn't hear it, Okay, Jeff and Birmingham, Jeff, go ahead.
Speaker 10 (47:12):
Yes.
Speaker 11 (47:12):
The commercial I liked the most was the one with
the little kid coming out of the hospital with a
boxing gloves.
Speaker 1 (47:18):
Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 11 (47:21):
It was like I guess it was Pfizer or something
like that, where they talk about how they're going to
defeat cancer. So that was the most touching.
Speaker 1 (47:29):
Did you have one that was particularly funny to you? Oh?
Speaker 11 (47:33):
The eyebrows made me sick, but I laughed my head off.
Speaker 1 (47:37):
Okay, yeah, that sounds like a liner for our show,
and they'll.
Speaker 3 (47:42):
Make you physically sick.
Speaker 1 (47:43):
But you'll have your head off, John, Welcome to the show,
go ahead.
Speaker 4 (47:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (47:49):
Man, the biggest commercial they got my chens in last
night as well as my friend because he got in trouble.
His wife was there with him at to get together.
We had the breast cancer commercial and we didn't know
how serious it was to the end.
Speaker 1 (48:05):
Yeah that was. Yeah, that was an interesting way to
bring awareness to breast cancer. It really was. It was.
Speaker 10 (48:12):
Yeah, it was really So was his wife and he
slapped He got slapped in the back of his head. Uh,
she's real jealous type.
Speaker 4 (48:20):
So you know, I guess, I.
Speaker 1 (48:23):
Guess, Chase, Chase, Welcome to the show, go ahead. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (48:28):
I really enjoyed the Angels Soft commercial.
Speaker 9 (48:30):
It gave us about thirty seconds to run to the
bathroom or relieve ourselves with whatever we needed to do.
Speaker 1 (48:37):
Yeah, that was appreciated. That that was clever. It really was.
I agree with you. I didn't understand the human cowboy
hat thing.
Speaker 3 (48:44):
No, that one was weird.
Speaker 1 (48:46):
That was an attempt to be creative and sometimes it
can just be weird.
Speaker 4 (48:50):
It was hilarious, but I didn't understand it.
Speaker 1 (48:53):
Right.
Speaker 3 (48:53):
Hello, bus driver, go ahead.
Speaker 8 (48:56):
If he didn't stay to the end of the game
to what the itza roll commercial? You missed the best
commercial of all. Yeah, towards the end, the takeoff on
et it was hilarious, hilarious. Got you gotta pull it
up and see the thirty second version of it and
(49:18):
you're it's it's Greg's kind of humor.
Speaker 1 (49:20):
Okay, Yeah, i'd largu going to bed. That must have
been right to the very end. I went to bed with
about five and a half minutes left in the game.
Speaker 4 (49:26):
There's like this weird alien.
Speaker 1 (49:29):
Let me let me tell you this now I'm seeing
the one on the text line. The the Reese Cup
chocolate volcano was hilarious.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
I missed it. Yeah that now.
Speaker 1 (49:40):
People think they can eat lava and they got and
they're trying to keep from trying to eat real lava,
but no, just eat the chocolate lava. And like an
old lady on the scooter is going into the lava,
catches their front tyre on fire and they're like no
in their form tacklinger.
Speaker 2 (49:55):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (50:03):
So Debbie in Alabama, Debbie, did you have a favorite
anything like that?
Speaker 10 (50:11):
I like the weather Tech one and I always like
to see what Budweiser does you know.
Speaker 1 (50:17):
Yeah, did you like the little Clydesdale that got the
you know he he got the keg there, which is
nothing more more moving than a little cold making sure
people have beer, but but the right heartstrings. But what
about the one that they did for bud Light where
they're doing the cul de sac.
Speaker 3 (50:36):
Yeah, uh and.
Speaker 1 (50:37):
Turning it into a party, and I thought it was
I thought that was pretty funny that.
Speaker 3 (50:42):
Yeah, and the weather teg. Wasn't that that the four
older ladies that were partying.
Speaker 1 (50:47):
Having fun funny? Uh So also the sloth one was funny.
That was I think the two David Beckham's which was
late that was in the fourth quarter too real funny
though now I can't imagine the money was spent on it,
you know, with having this back this ben Affleck Matt
Damon thing back and forth they do. I think it's funny.
(51:09):
What about yeah, when you've spent that cash and you're
I guess that spot later and it's a blowout, Yeah,
you're not gonna run, you know, some audience is gone.
Well here's what I don't know. Let's take that gamble. Yeah,
well let me tell you. You know, I don't know this,
but I've worked in the industry for quite a one,
about forty years. But I can I can speak to
(51:31):
that a little bit. And and I know this is
the way it happens locally, and I would assume nationally.
When I tell you, as I'm TV person selling you
a commercial, Okay, I'm Fox, I'm I'm I've guaranteed you
a certain amount of audience to get the eight million
when the audience numbers come in. And and I I
(51:53):
didn't get the audience. I promised you don't pay eight million.
You now my pay five million. Yeah, based on the audience.
So there there. I don't, I don't. I don't know
that it's still done that way. It would make sense that,
like we said, if it's a blowout, a lot of
people are not gonna you know, like us. I went
to bed. I was prepared to stay up. Wat's the
trophy shirt ceremony and all that. Yeah, And then I
(52:15):
just said, what about Matthew McConaughey, Uber eats uh funny stuff. Now,
I know he's kind of been doing some of that
commercials right now he's doing I'm tired of him about
how the NFL and footballers makes you think about food.
Speaker 3 (52:27):
Yeah, that's that's the whole deal. That's pretty good.
Speaker 1 (52:30):
Yeah. And when he was he's working on getting his
dick right and bears. Yeah, you know, not all that.
I think the Matthew McConaughey stuff also about him not
using the the travel thing that helps, you know, like
get your reservations and all that, I think, and I
think all those are pretty full. Yeah, and you keep
you keep seeing what's his name? Come on, Harris over? Yeah,
(52:52):
and he brick who is it? By the way, talking
about commercial and all the commercials with him that was
on was on Cheers and he was the goof of
gall and Cheers and he's been in a million what Harrison. Yes,
I couldn't come up with that. Came couldn't get whatdy
Harrison that I go all the way back to Cheers.
That's how my struggle I was so so he's done
(53:14):
lots of Cheers, Rick objective.
Speaker 3 (53:16):
What about early on the Coca Cola commercial about a
I they were in the convenience store.
Speaker 1 (53:21):
Yeah, that was weird.
Speaker 5 (53:22):
Yeah about I did pull up the I'm sorry speeding,
No you didn't see that one.
Speaker 4 (53:27):
I did pull up the.
Speaker 2 (53:34):
Hard but.
Speaker 5 (53:38):
Enough say, nobody gave you anything yeah, Totinos commercial.
Speaker 4 (53:45):
I'm so sorry.
Speaker 5 (53:46):
But the Totino's commercial that the caller mentioned, I watched
during the break and I watched it twice and I'm
just crying laughing from it, and I just can't stop.
Speaker 1 (53:53):
Thinking about it. Can we see it?
Speaker 4 (53:54):
I think I think it's worth watching.
Speaker 1 (53:56):
Okays are and they payed eight maga and they're gonna
get some money back because this was this was too late. Again,
thank you for sharing your Totino's pizza roles.
Speaker 2 (54:07):
No problem.
Speaker 4 (54:08):
We'll miss you, Jazz, I'll miss you too.
Speaker 6 (54:19):
Fortunately, that's that's just a part of life.
Speaker 1 (54:25):
We didn't know as well of you.
Speaker 4 (54:27):
So it's not as sad, not that we didn't want
to just.
Speaker 6 (54:30):
To open up around us Totino's pizzazz, it's not as sadirized.
Speaker 1 (54:41):
Oh that's funny.
Speaker 3 (54:43):
That pretty funny.
Speaker 1 (54:45):
That's funny. Good good, that's good. That was That was
much better.
Speaker 4 (54:51):
That was.
Speaker 1 (54:53):
Okay. I remember he's on the door.
Speaker 4 (54:55):
It's so funny.
Speaker 1 (54:58):
And the kid's screaming. The only thing would have made
that commercial better in my opinion, because they got it.
Speaker 3 (55:07):
Go get them yeah, go and let.
Speaker 1 (55:09):
The dads go over and kind of just get them out.
Of his hand. Well, it's not like he can use them,
you know, so thank you. All right, So another thing,
I remember the Terry Bradshaw now I remember it now, okay, okay,
got somebody didn't tell me. You know, it's like having
(55:31):
Greg on the on the Fox team when you see
Terry Bradshaw, well, and I think, as we all are,
let's face it, all of us as were getting older,
we're just becoming more dangerous because us caring what people think. Remember,
you know, you remember how dangerous Dad was when he
got the point because he never cared much anyway, But
when he got the point where he didn't care at all,
you know, we all become more dangerous. But Terry Bradshaw
(55:52):
caught himself because he forgot about what this what this
announcement is. So they were fighting over the microphone and
Terry being the older guy, and they were like, hey,
bra y'all, will you think about all these guys. You know,
everybody's fighting over the microphone. And it was basically the
famous I'm the older guy, so I'm superior to everybody
(56:13):
here anyway. Well, for some reason, he decides to use
the analogy about the older bull up on the hill
Oh no, tell you what. I'm like, I'm like an
old bill set up on the hill and he's just
looking out and he just stopped his son and he
picks him out of cow. It's like, everybody's like, are
you really going to do this analogy? Though? Don't we
(56:35):
all know this analogy? I'm just like that old bull
up on the hill with that young I bet everybody
was like, know this analogy? This now somebody tackling. And
by the way he goes, I'm just he'son on them
down there. He just know what stops. Like everybody's like,
oh gosh, where are you gonna let's bust in there?
Speaker 4 (56:58):
And uh?
Speaker 5 (56:59):
Also, is that the one where you got like an
old county.
Speaker 1 (57:02):
They're bulls, they're not counting. Yeah, yeah, and they're looking out.
Speaker 3 (57:05):
Over all the count That's right.
Speaker 4 (57:07):
That's I had to look it up and remember them.
Speaker 1 (57:10):
Okay, Greg, because the young never brought this up on me,
We're going to change the subject. The young bull says
his strategy is let's run down there.
Speaker 3 (57:21):
Okay, that's right. What about and someone texted about it
the Doritos Alien commercial where they're trying to get the
bag and he and he's he's holding he's holding the
bag of Dorito's and they're trying to they're trying to
pull it out, and then he gets sucked out of
the wall and the next thing it ends in there
it's sitting on a bit like a bench and the
aliens eating.
Speaker 1 (57:41):
I don't think I saw that the bathroom.
Speaker 3 (57:46):
It's not bad that one.
Speaker 4 (57:46):
I missed that one too.
Speaker 1 (57:50):
Over to look one up.
Speaker 3 (57:54):
Now.
Speaker 1 (57:54):
I kind of wish that you would have got interrupted
now one have you missed?
Speaker 4 (58:02):
I'm so sorry.
Speaker 1 (58:04):
I know I must I have to be here in
that at UF detective.
Speaker 3 (58:10):
Yeah, I did not see this play.
Speaker 4 (58:13):
Let's play it okay.
Speaker 1 (58:21):
Hmm, oh, got it? Okay?
Speaker 3 (58:37):
Trying to take it?
Speaker 1 (58:38):
Yeah, yeah, Now that what remind me of he would
remind you what it reminds me of? That is good?
Speaker 4 (58:51):
Good?
Speaker 7 (58:51):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (58:51):
To Dan? It reminds me of one we had talked
about sketchers, Martha Stewart. That was the first one that
makes you that Martha Stewart commercially. I just love when
I don't expect something that was I did not expect
it and it was so so funny. It was have
you seen this that one?
Speaker 4 (59:11):
I was changing a gigantic diapers. I changed so many diapers.
Speaker 1 (59:15):
You're not ready for this? How many diapers you have
to change?
Speaker 3 (59:18):
Or no?
Speaker 7 (59:20):
Because their light step but almost feels like I'm gliding
on air when I walk.
Speaker 4 (59:24):
Let me demonstrate from.
Speaker 7 (59:25):
A beat, and that's how you glide, go hands free
with flight steps.
Speaker 4 (59:40):
And y'all do that moonwalk thing. Whatever, it's not moonwalk.
It's not the light stepping.
Speaker 3 (59:45):
I guess that is funny on the shows.
Speaker 1 (59:47):
It was. When I saw it last night, it was
I think I'm anxious because it was like the first commercial.
I was still enthusiastic. I mean, it was fun.
Speaker 3 (59:55):
It was how about hogging dies with a fast and
furious play?
Speaker 4 (59:59):
That was good.
Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
Did y'all see for just a second or didn't see it? Baby? Whatever? Yeah,
popped in there for just a Saturday, I asked a card.
I think, yeah, I was showing all the different Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
I screamed about that.
Speaker 1 (01:00:11):
I'm just screamed. I did. I said, Hi, we'll be back.
More of the Rick Burgess Show coming up right after
this super Bowl edition.
Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
Panama City, Florida, twenty first, twenty second, and then the
weekend after that twenty eighth through March first Atlanta, Georgia,
and get all those details at the Manchurch dot com.
The lineup, hotel blocks. I will tell you right now,
if you order ten tickets for more, you get ten
dollars off if you want to take your group, And
there are still some early access tickets available to both,
(01:00:51):
so you can grab those at the Manchurch dot com.
That's coming next, not this coming weekend, but the last
two weekends of the month. So also I'll tell you
about the trip to Monroe, Louisiana coming up a little
later in the program. Speaking of all that from the weekends,
some other things to cover. People are asking on the
text line and we have we have discussed this before
(01:01:15):
in the past, and that is this He Gets Us
campaign that has a ton of money. As a matter
of fact, I believe the folks at Hobby Lobby are
very much invested in it, and I understand what's going on.
I mean, my goodness, we do a version of that here.
And and you know, like when I go to a
conference and tell some stories about Dad or stories about
(01:01:36):
the show and get some laughs and then kind of
earn the right to talk to you about our faith
in Christ. You know, I'm not a huge fan of
their approach. I'm not going to be overly critical because
I don't know really what happens when people go to
you know, the link that they provide that now you
get into a really in depth and very detailed presentation
(01:01:58):
of the gospel. And by all accounts they answer to
that is yes. So so I understand their approach and
and and if it's effective, then I'm all for it.
Speaker 4 (01:02:08):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
I do think in the past, uh, there's been a
little more of Jesus meets us right where we are,
but not a lot about Jesus changes who we are,
not not a lot about transformation and being delivered from
the life that that has been so destructive. So these
that rander in the Super Bowl I think kind of
(01:02:30):
stayed away from. There were some that ran that almost
made it look like that Jesus met me right where
I was, but nothing changed. But the ones that rander
in the Super Bowl didn't didn't seem to do that.
It's a very broad you know, and I understand it's
it's trying to be you know, as general as a
dove and wise as a serpent. So if it's effective
(01:02:50):
and people are coming to Christ, because of this approach,
I'm all about it. Would it would it be the
way I would go about it? Probably not, But that
doesn't mean that what they're doing is wrong. I did
think that the ones they ran where people had all
these issues in their life and Jesus, you know, likes
me just like I am, I thought those were poorly
(01:03:12):
done because I don't think I would have liked to
have seen I once was this way and thanks to Jesus,
I'm not this way anymore, and explain that a little better.
But but the way they're doing it, where they're just
trying to get you to reach out and then they
talk to you about the truth of the gospel, now
I'm not there. I don't know how those conversations go
because I'm not part of this ministry, but but I
(01:03:35):
commend them for what they're trying to do, and by
all accounts, I think they're being pretty effective. But there
was there's some of them that I would be like,
I wish I wish it would have been done a
little differently. So that's that's kind of where I wasn't
aim all that. I think that if it's effective, then
I'm all for it, but I'm not for compromising Jesus,
(01:03:55):
like being his pr agent. He doesn't need a pr agent.
I'm not for that. So some other things that.
Speaker 4 (01:04:02):
I'm real quick on that note.
Speaker 5 (01:04:04):
Looking back at this ad, at the end it said
Jesus showed us what greatness really is. He gets us,
he gets all of us. Is that a shot at
Trump as far as make America great again?
Speaker 4 (01:04:19):
Jesus shows us what greatness.
Speaker 1 (01:04:21):
I don't think so. I don't think so. As a
matter of fact, I saw that. I don't think it
was critical of Mahomes either. I think it's critical of
this attitude we have. Because Mahomes was asked in his
interview by Tom Brady. He was asked, if you walk
off the field, what would be one word you would
say that? If you guys do something that's never been
(01:04:43):
done before, and now we see how hard it is, Yeah,
to win three to win three super Bowls in a row,
what would be one word you would think of that
would describe that? And Mahomes said, greatness. Yeah, And so
I think they're taking on the Super Bowl and all
the accolades of the world. You know, you think that
(01:05:04):
when in the Super Bowl makes you great. You think
that being successful in the world makes you great. No,
Jesus showed us what true greatness was as king of
King's Lord of lords and giving up himself for the
benefit of others. He lowered himself when you know he
had access and still does have access to the very
(01:05:26):
glory of God. He is God, Okay, and he lowered
himself as scripture tells us. And they're saying, to be
a humble, lowly servant for the benefit of others is
the true example of greatness. Yeah. I agree, because I
don't think it's shot at trumpet all.
Speaker 3 (01:05:44):
Because each example they showed throughout the commercial with acts
of kindness and greatness that someone was giving someone else.
And so yeah, and it.
Speaker 5 (01:05:54):
Is David Green, CEO of a hobby lobby that's one
of the main donors behind it, right and come near also,
which is a nonprofit Christian group.
Speaker 1 (01:06:03):
Yeah, and you know that they're they're doing, They're they're
putting their money where their mouth is. I mean, that's
that's a lot of money that they have and God
has allowed them to have it. And you know, David Green,
we've interviewed the Green family. Uh, they said, you know,
everybody's in vocational ministry not just those of you that
are preachers and you know, working for the church. If
(01:06:25):
you are a follower of Christ and for them, He's
allowed us hobby lobby, then all of us are in
full time ministry and we're going to use our platform
to point people to Jesus. And to their credit, they do.
But you know, all of us have different strategies and
different ways we would do things, and and I think
it's okay to hold each other accountable and make suggestions
(01:06:47):
and not to be critical just for critical sake, you know,
just because that's not the way you want to do it.
Speaker 7 (01:06:53):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:06:53):
It kind of goes back to that I don't like
that song because it's not the way I want a
song to be done. Well, No, what we really should
be talking about is not all we should be talking
about content? Is it theologically sound? Let's be much more
concerned about that. And uh, there was only one campaign
they did that I didn't think was clear on transformation,
But overall, I think what they're doing is important and
(01:07:15):
hopefully there's some really important conversations taking place when people
do reach out and they're using that to kind of
throw it out there as some bait and and then
get you to to have a deeper conversation with them.
So I applaud that we do a little version of
that here.
Speaker 3 (01:07:29):
Yeah, you know, so I mean, yes, you didn't see
those commercials.
Speaker 4 (01:07:32):
I missed all the.
Speaker 3 (01:07:34):
Yeah, yeah, I thought so, Bud, I thult, So maybe
you should just tell us the ones you did.
Speaker 4 (01:07:41):
I did see seal as a seal. I want to
see that.
Speaker 3 (01:07:44):
We saw that one.
Speaker 1 (01:07:45):
Yeah, we've been, we've been. We've been clear. We've been
clear on that. Okay, but apparently there's one that we
all saw. You know, there's like one commercial that we
all agree and this is its stiff. It's funny. Is
(01:08:05):
that one make you laugh harder than the alien getting
closing the door?
Speaker 4 (01:08:08):
Both close? My goodness, the alien in the door?
Speaker 3 (01:08:11):
Yeah, that's funny.
Speaker 4 (01:08:13):
Sorry, buddy, Sorry man. We'll watch it together next year FaceTime.
Speaker 1 (01:08:18):
Or something, Top of the hour. Thanks for being with us.
We'll be right back.
Speaker 2 (01:08:30):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:08:37):
So talking about so we did find the selfie. I'm sorry.
I thought that got to adder, but it didn't. This
is the finally approved selfie. Now I'm in the shooting house.
Notice I had to wear camel shirt because to me
I'm not hunting if I don't. So I did not
see any deer, had a great time. The cheer was
ready to go watch the sunset right at peak time
of the deer moving. And so it was. And then
(01:09:00):
Brody starts texting because Sherry's going, y'all start packing up,
We're coming to get you, and Brody's like, dad, and
I said, we're not coming where I think your mom
and I about to walk around into woods. We're not
around y'all. You'll be all right, baby, we'll jump one.
Speaker 3 (01:09:12):
This is what we've been waiting for.
Speaker 7 (01:09:13):
That.
Speaker 1 (01:09:14):
Yeah, so uh so, anyway, yeah, honey, we've been grinding
through this and you've just about read everything you could
possibly read in that book as we've sat here for hours,
you know, And of course I've been brought into the
loop on what I this tune in thing we just
talked about. Now I'm involved in that with speeding and
super Tom and I'm getting updated on that. And then
(01:09:35):
I start chiming on that, you know, because now I'm
sitting there, Sherry's reading. We're spending time together, but it's
almost like we're just like at home in bed, you
know what I mean. She's reading I'm over here, so
uh so. Anyway, but today today, and there's others I want,
I want to say this, and I know there's a
lot of you out there. I can't do all of them,
but I got to give this guy props. I mean,
(01:09:57):
Alex was ready to go at two o two today
he had an email waiting on me said, a happy
anniversary to you and your wife. Thank you, Alex. Very nice. No,
I don't want to be a BIP. I love that,
my pep. But my parents this is a good son.
My parents, David and Jeanette, also have an anniversary today.
(01:10:18):
They're twenty five years married, so I've been married longer
than his parents. But anyway, he said, my dad's a
huge fan, loves the show, loves the new show. He
goes and look, you talk about a guy who knows us, Rick.
If it's not too much of a hassle, and I'm
not being a BIP, I wish you could tell my
mom and dad happy anniversary as a surprise to them.
(01:10:40):
This is Alex Conklin. So David and Jeanette Conklin, Happy
twenty fifth. There we go on the same day, two
o two am. You got to give that guy little
and putting me, you know every day. I know, don't
want to be a bill not to the bib city.
So you know, how you you try to talk to
(01:11:03):
your wife about the anniversary. We've been married twenty nine years,
and I said, I know, twenty nine years. Nobody gets
enthusiastic about that. You know, you tell people how long
you all been married, and they get excited. Twenty nine years.
Now talk to me next year. That's an awkward number.
But anyway, this is this is a big deal. But
I went into that deal yesterday where I said to
(01:11:24):
my beautiful wife, I said, you know, I no more.
I look back on this and I put it under
the comment today of the pictures of Sherry and I
over the years, and I said, I really, for the
life of me, I can't figure out why you would
even remotely consider marrying me. And I was ready for
This is where she explains it. She goes, I really
(01:11:45):
don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:11:46):
I really do question you.
Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
She goes, I really don't know. I think that it
was just I don't want to overuse this phrase, she said,
but I think that it was just I think God
put that together. And I said, you're kind of saying
because you wouldn't have well, I mean, you know, she
we're looking and I thought, you know, hey, I can't
believe that you would ever consider marrying me. And you
(01:12:08):
know what, she was saying, you make a great point.
I don't know why I would do that either, but
I'm glad that I did. And uh, and and so
then she was like, no, I mean just saying, I mean,
it's wonderful, but you're right. I don't know what was
going on there, but because you know, and I thought, wow,
I thought I've always thought that every little girl dreamed
of an overweight man whose life was a wreck with
(01:12:30):
a mullet driving a broken down car. Isn't that what
you were doing? Again?
Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
Was it the song you sang to her?
Speaker 1 (01:12:36):
I think it was. She's often she was she don't
like to admit that that it worked, but it did.
She said it worked. But I will say that one
of the things that we talk about a lot too,
Sherry and me, is you know, we've been through a lot.
We've been through a lot together. We've been through some
difficult times, and our marriage has only gotten stronger. And
she's just I saw she's mentioning that too. And and
the fact that this process, that that of God putting
(01:13:00):
us together. I can I can honestly say that that
God gave her to me in the process of him
doing that saved my life, completely saved my life. And
you know, we both through premarital counseling and I've told
you that story before, came to full faith in Christ.
So we get to celebrate our incredible marriage together and
(01:13:22):
it is incredible and getting better by the day. But
we also get to say that we were redeemed in
the process of entering into this covenant before the one
and only living God. So we have much, much much
to celebrate today. We'll be back.
Speaker 2 (01:13:37):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:13:44):
If you miss that, so so and a lot of
you that you know, I would just say this, a
lot of you who are sharing the anniversary today with
sharing me. Have you universary to you, Speedy. I know
you and I were walking now the delicate line of
Valentine's Day a slash for me, anniversary for you your
wife's birthday.
Speaker 3 (01:14:06):
Wife's birthday is Wednesday and not just any birthday.
Speaker 1 (01:14:09):
Uh oh if I vo that's a big one. M
aybody you do anything special?
Speaker 3 (01:14:17):
Yeah, I mean, you know we've we may be planning
something during the summertime to maybe officially do something special.
But with what we've got going on and as busy
as we are, it's hard to get away on the
weekends because baseball has started, so you're traveling and going
and doing and so that's tough. But but we you know,
Terry and I we talked this past weekend when we
(01:14:38):
were on yet another road trip together, and we spend
a lot of time together and I enjoy it so much.
I mean, we just we just have the best time.
And we went up to hunts Full again this past
weekend and UH, and we we watched j C play
and was able to stay with my parents and UH
and everything, and we just had it. We just had fun.
(01:14:58):
We just had a good time. And I was very
thankful that they moved games around, even though I was
a little a little frustrated on Friday because they moved
the games up. But comes Sunday, it's over, ye and
now you're back.
Speaker 1 (01:15:11):
Sure.
Speaker 3 (01:15:12):
And about Sunday afternoon, we Terry and I were looking around,
We're like, what do we want to have for it's
just the two of us for Super Bowl food?
Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
What do you want to do?
Speaker 3 (01:15:21):
And we were throwing around some ideas, but we were like,
you know, I just don't want to get we go
so much. It's like I'd kind of just like to
hang around here. And so she ended up making some
wings and we did some tater totts and she I mean,
we just vegged. I mean we had such a good time.
Hate and sat there all full watching the game haf asleep,
trying to pay attention to the commercials. She wasn't to
(01:15:42):
pay attention to the commercials as much as I wanted
her to. She felt like that was the time to
get up, and I was like, no, no, no, no, no, no,
this is we got to watch.
Speaker 4 (01:15:48):
We got to watch.
Speaker 3 (01:15:49):
What did you think about that one? What'd you think
it was?
Speaker 1 (01:15:51):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (01:15:51):
No I missed it?
Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
What was that?
Speaker 3 (01:15:53):
Get out of your phone?
Speaker 2 (01:15:54):
What are you doing?
Speaker 1 (01:15:55):
You know?
Speaker 3 (01:15:56):
But we had we had a good time. And and
so leading up to this Wednesday, it's going to be
tough for the family to get together just because everybody
is spread.
Speaker 1 (01:16:04):
Out, understood, Uh's tough.
Speaker 3 (01:16:06):
Yeah. And now she's declared she doesn't want any special attention.
Speaker 1 (01:16:11):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:16:11):
But I'm not going to fall for that. No, do not. No,
It's just like someday. Before we started this conversation, she said,
I'm an run to the grocery store. I said, do
you need me to go with you?
Speaker 1 (01:16:19):
I can go with now, that's okay, I'll go.
Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
And then the rest of the days I said okay,
And the rest of the day she was like, well
you didn't go with me. Yeah, I'm like you you
just said you were going to go. Well, you were
watching the Phoenix Open, you know, at super Bowl coverage.
Speaker 1 (01:16:36):
Yeah, that's so.
Speaker 3 (01:16:38):
Anyway, I'm not going to fall for the Hey, I
don't want any don't worry about anything. So we'll do
something just the two of us and something bigger. Yeah,
and then maybe when the family gets together, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:16:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:16:55):
No, Now, look we did when we were the long
trip road trip down to Saint Augustine, I did announce
to her with you know, my aunt passing and different things.
I'm like, hey, I just want to let you know
it's been so crazy. I don't have anything major league
planned for your fiftieth I mean, how how do we
feel about that? What do you want to do? Because
I mean, I'm up for surprises, but I also want
(01:17:15):
her to do something she wants to do too. And yeah,
because sometimes we'll go out and we'll go shopping, but
with her, you know, and she's like picked something out
or I will or whatever. And and that's when she declared, no, no, no, no,
I don't want anything. Don't do anything. No, I don't
want anything like big or whatever. No, don't do that.
Speaker 1 (01:17:32):
And I'm like, oh boy, I'm not going to fall
for it. What do I do? I know, what do
I do?
Speaker 7 (01:17:36):
Well?
Speaker 1 (01:17:36):
No, it's uh, you know, we're going to dinner tonight
and for our anniversary, and of course we're going early.
Speaker 3 (01:17:43):
Really right, well, you don't really have to worry about
everything being taken.
Speaker 1 (01:17:47):
No, because we're you know, one of the reasons I
think that we're doing things that hope people do is
because we are. Yeah. I've been blaming it on the job,
but now it's both, you know, it would look. Let
me see what happened. So Sherry Is has the honor
of speaking tomorrow at a luncheon at our church that's
called the Legacy Ministry. That's me. It used to be
(01:18:10):
called the Seniors, the Seasoned Citizens and all of that.
And so she brings it up and I said, yeah, yeah,
I saw that email they sent out about that, and
she goes, you got that email. I said, yeah, I didn't.
Didn't everybody. She goes, no, only the legacy people got
that email. And I said, oh my gosh, legacy. Am
I in the Legacystry, They've just put you in there.
(01:18:31):
She goes, you're you're you're sixty rick, I said, I
am I in the legacy. She goes, you're in the legacy.
I'm in the I'm a senior citizen. But it's going
to list. I'm on the list on the leg But
I think one of the things that is probably most
and not Sherry has said, all of you out there
(01:18:51):
an audience, you just got to figure this. I know.
And sometimes maybe Sherry more than any of the wives,
because you know, she she can't and be extremely serious
and you know, and just like all of our wives
are just a powerful woman, and she can be very serious,
and she is studious. You know, I accuse you sometimes
of being let me tell you something. You're you're fine,
(01:19:12):
and you're beautiful, a little bit of a nerd and
she's like and I and I said, and what happens
is you're so beautiful, you're hiding your nerdness. You're kind
of a little nerdy. And she's like, are you saying
I'm a nerd? I said, a little little studious, and
she goes, so I'm that what And just because I
read and I study and and all that, I said,
I just tell you sometimes I'll notice you're a little nerdy.
(01:19:35):
Then I thought you I thought you were a little cooler.
And uh, And I said, I honestly think I brought
some cool to you. She goes, You've brought a lot
of cool. You brought a lot of things to me.
I don't know about cool, but one of the things
that you have to remember, no matter how serious you
may think they are, and how you know you picture
them rolling their eyes all the time, you just let
(01:19:56):
some of it out of the bag. I've been around Leeley,
so I know that I soon because again I'm gonna
with Aaron, who I don't know as well getting to
know Aaron, but I'm gonna assume the obvious. If these
women married us, they're not super serious, right, They've they've
got a sense of humor somewhere, whether you've seen or not,
(01:20:17):
that's a fact. And I will tell you that just
like yesterday, like you were talking about and today Sherry
Burgess and I we have a lot of fun. Yes,
and I'm talking about she she cuts up more than
let me tell you that she likes a good one. Okay,
they cut up with us more than y'all think they do.
Speaker 3 (01:20:33):
Oh, yes, you know, and I flirt like crazy with her.
Speaker 1 (01:20:36):
Oh. I just remember that I got an anniversary of
Mars the fourth, I tell you, And it seems it's February,
but it's March fourth, so it's almost February short anyway,
so it's practically in this Yeah, he might as well
be the same. Well, Greg, you know, like I talked
about before, and I'd said the same thing for you. You know,
(01:20:57):
one of the things that God is you with this
design of marriage, I don't know that there's any one thing.
It certainly is redemption, the power that we now have
to be transformed by the power of Jesus. But a
practical thing that that also is used for just the
structure and the foundation of transformation has been our marriages.
(01:21:19):
I mean, I mean marrying these women that that was
a stabilizing force. We really need it. Let's say, counting wrong, Yeah,
thirty six thirty six years Wow, congratulations, Bud.
Speaker 5 (01:21:29):
Yeah, Valentie and Valentine's Day is coming up on the nineteenth.
Speaker 1 (01:21:33):
Is that right?
Speaker 4 (01:21:37):
Get ready for it?
Speaker 1 (01:21:38):
This is your Is this your least favorite? Yeah? He
hates tale you hate VALENTI was especially when you got anniversaries,
Birthday stuck around them.
Speaker 8 (01:21:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:21:50):
Yeah, I mean that's fine. I mean so it's fine.
Speaker 4 (01:21:53):
So Valentine's Day is fine.
Speaker 1 (01:21:55):
Yeah, it's it's good. I'll get a card and all that.
I'll get a card and all that. Is it?
Speaker 4 (01:21:59):
This is it?
Speaker 1 (01:22:00):
By the way, Do I get an anniversary card and
a Valentine's For sure?
Speaker 3 (01:22:03):
That cannot be molded together? You kidding me?
Speaker 1 (01:22:07):
I thought we're having Valentine's Day now, No, Rick, I'm
having Christmas. I know you are. Got an update. We'll
come back about you.
Speaker 3 (01:22:18):
Valentine's Is that the holiday where y'all it's a tradition
to go get pizza?
Speaker 4 (01:22:24):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (01:22:24):
On all of them? We go to Madas? That's it? Yeah? Okay,
Oh that's right. What's y'all's number one? By the way,
speaking of that, what what like is it wings for you?
Speaker 7 (01:22:35):
Like?
Speaker 1 (01:22:35):
If you're doing Super Bowl set down, what's the go
to snack?
Speaker 3 (01:22:38):
You gotta have snack or main meal.
Speaker 1 (01:22:41):
Let's do both snacking and what I'm gonna eat and
count that as dinner, and then what I'm gonna have
an I like wings.
Speaker 3 (01:22:48):
Wings are good, rotail dip that's always good, that's always great.
Speaker 1 (01:22:53):
Step might make chili, but okay, but I'm got it.
Speaker 4 (01:22:58):
Didn't do that, but.
Speaker 1 (01:22:59):
I always so.
Speaker 4 (01:23:00):
Yeah, I went berserk crazy, would you have?
Speaker 5 (01:23:03):
I got guacamole, cheese dip, and salsa to go from
a restaurant, a Mexican restaurant right by me, which is
very good.
Speaker 4 (01:23:11):
Got a big old tub of that stuff, and then
I made about a hundred wings.
Speaker 1 (01:23:15):
So I talk about wings.
Speaker 3 (01:23:17):
Yeah, you get their special wings for what who the
Mexican restaurant's close by.
Speaker 4 (01:23:23):
Uh No, I just got salsa.
Speaker 3 (01:23:25):
Okay, so that's not the one I was thinking of.
Speaker 1 (01:23:27):
Cheese dip.
Speaker 3 (01:23:28):
Of cheese disph Sure.
Speaker 5 (01:23:30):
I went crazy on it for like four hours straight.
Speaker 1 (01:23:32):
Yeah, all those are yeah, I like all those.
Speaker 3 (01:23:34):
Yeah, of course, burgers and all that. That's but I
don't even tell you what I had.
Speaker 4 (01:23:41):
I ate twenty seven wings. Wow, I'm gonna guess maybe twenty.
I ate a lot of wings.
Speaker 1 (01:23:49):
That's I was.
Speaker 4 (01:23:51):
I purposefully skipped wings. I said, I'm skipping breakfast today.
Today's a wings and chips day. There you go, and
uh boy, I had a time give of.
Speaker 1 (01:24:00):
The range when we come back. Update on father Christmas. Yeah,
I got a little Christmas in the Valley Greg, the
never ending Christmas Greg and Leeley update. Christmas decorations were
still up last time we got an update. Oh yeah,
we will be right back. Stick eloth.
Speaker 2 (01:24:19):
This is the Rick Burgers Show.
Speaker 1 (01:24:27):
We've recapped the super Bowl. Thank you for your very
kind anniversary wishes. Today Shary and I celebrating twenty nine
years and we've been discussing all that a little bit.
Still haven't talked about road trip to Monroe, Louisiana. We'll
talk about that coming up. Because stand by, folks, this
(01:24:48):
is an update. We sure we're hoping for today. Christmas
and Pleasant Valley. Last we checked it had continued all
the way into February. Oh yeah, and Greg says he
has an update. Well slight so I get home Friday.
Oh boy. First of all, let me set up. You know,
Lisa and her sister Pat have the vendor mall, Main
(01:25:11):
Street South and Peedmont. You know about all marse Hills homes.
We know about all that home the core stuff. Well
this booth number. Uh no, you'll see the sign booth number. Okay, yeah,
but anyway, so she comes in, she goes, you know,
I know you ain't going to do this, and I'm like,
well probably that don't sound good. No, it's a terrible
I need you come help me. We got to get
(01:25:31):
to the booth. I got to get that Christmas stuff
out of there. I said, oh, hang on a second,
so we can be Christmas here, but we got to
get out there and get that out of the booth.
If that don't look right, oh my goodness. So that
was funny. And uh so we go and we get
a loaded up of course, and then you know, we
(01:25:52):
get I thought, let's load up and go. Now Li's
got to go and remove everything, like this cup's here,
let me slide it here and move this one here.
It was just what how's that look about it? This
is stuff that's staying in it, the stuff that's staying
in the view now re arrange, rearrange and everything. Yeah,
well I can't have this here because that's where that
Christmas thing was. So I'm just sitting there like this,
you know, so Forest to Homes Christmas decorations must go. Yes,
(01:26:15):
and then we got to go in there and I
guess move stuff around.
Speaker 3 (01:26:18):
Wait, looks she will.
Speaker 1 (01:26:19):
She will take like I say, you got a cup
and a candle or whatever, and then she she'll go
over and go she'll just swap them maybe into the other. Sure,
then she'll go do another. Said, look, she's back over
swapping that one back. And I'm over going. Can we go?
Speaker 3 (01:26:31):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
And there's this cat that walks around there, I'm hanging
out with him, a cat? Yeah, okay, yeah, anyway, Uh
so we get talking about it. I was like, you know,
maybe at home. Well, I'll tell you what. Let's just
go ahead and get to the garland and all that
off the staircase. So I said, okay, that's a start. Start.
(01:26:52):
You gotta start someone. And that's where we started, and
that's where we ended.
Speaker 3 (01:26:55):
Now did you on Friday or do you sleep on
it and then start slept on it? Okay, no way.
Speaker 1 (01:27:00):
I wanted to do it from so the garlands down
you know rembody.
Speaker 3 (01:27:06):
Of course I do.
Speaker 1 (01:27:06):
Greg. I don't remember remember it as vividly as I'm
sure the women do, but I know it was there. Anyways,
So that came down, and I thought, well, here we go.
I'm just not ready to get the trees down, and.
Speaker 4 (01:27:18):
Now not ready.
Speaker 1 (01:27:20):
She just enjoyed them. Lets you plug them up. I mean,
we're right in front of us. We can see it.
It's not even around a curve anymore. It's Valentine's Day.
Speaker 4 (01:27:28):
Uh huh.
Speaker 1 (01:27:29):
She kind of kind of noncommittal, said, I tell you what,
but it won't be up in March. So so by
the end of the month, I'm supposedly gonna have it
down there, Greg, But can I you know what this is?
Speaker 4 (01:27:42):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (01:27:44):
You know what this sounds like. By the way, I'm
not drinking or not. Yeah, that's what it sounds sounds like.
I'm gonna stop drinking in March.
Speaker 3 (01:27:50):
Yeah, it sounds a lot like that. So the garland,
everything you took down, did you put it up in
the stair?
Speaker 1 (01:27:57):
Put up so you get you at it. I got
to step off a little storage area that I don't
have to climb up latter. Now. Once I'm in there,
if I fall through, it's bad, right, that's real bad.
Finished corner there?
Speaker 4 (01:28:12):
Oh yeah, what about all the stuff from the booth?
Did you have to put all this stuff?
Speaker 3 (01:28:16):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:28:16):
Yeah, great point. Thank you, Ander.
Speaker 4 (01:28:18):
You got to Christmas take care of so.
Speaker 1 (01:28:21):
Now I had one of them tubs. It's got all
that in the process of christmasations to your point is happening. Okay,
we're moving stuff from you know, everyboy No Forest Hills homes,
downtown Peedmont. Yeah, so you're moving streets, you're moving the
Digger Pizza Company ate there. Pretty good, pretty good. Yeah,
that's a good pizza, pepperoni, cheese and half and half
(01:28:44):
half Canadian bacon, half peperoni. Good, really good. Look But
speedy Adler, the process has started. The process has started.
I mean, we're moving Christmas and get into that. We
even pull a little garland off. I think she realized
how ridiculous it looked to go So we got to
(01:29:05):
hurry down here and get this out because it's been
up too long. But let go ahead too the staircase.
I think she just did that made myself feel better.
I did, by the way, these trees. I did something,
these trees, These trees could make it the next year.
I'm telling you you're getting to a point where why
not you know what to us? Not even next year,
it's this year. Two of them don't really have they
(01:29:26):
just have there the flock. Yeah done, ain't going in
that rant again, Well, don't be angry. So they don't
have a decoration, just like that's got like a big
bow on top of them. Right, So that's not a
lot of but the other two three you got to
take a lot of stuff off of them. Takes a minute,
it really really does. Yeah, it's a lot. When I'm
(01:29:47):
getting the stuff out, I just take whatever's in and
just throw it somewhere. And now I got to figure
out where I put everything. Do you know I'm sitting
there on top of the pool table. I'm what's he
doing in there? You just sit it on top of
the pools at the table? Yeah? Do you realize that
I still here? As you probably do. About falling through
the ceiling, I said, I did it twice. I still
(01:30:11):
hear every year. You know you sometimes you just get
put out with this, which is what you're talking about.
And Shery Sherry had these angels that she absolutely loved. Okay,
notice I say in the past tense. Yeah, none of
that something. So I have the box. They're in the box.
Well I saw her wrapping them in, you know, paper
toils and all this kind of stuff, and I'm so
(01:30:32):
I'm so done with all this, and my lower back
is hurting so bad that I go over here and
just release the box about maybe a foot and a
half off the ground, and I just dropped it and
they hit. She goes, did you just drop that box?
I said, it's in a box. I said, we wrapped it.
You mean you probably broke some of the ornaments. I said, damn,
my ornaments didn't break over that one, that one little deed.
(01:30:56):
You didn't realize you were as high as you were
when you dropped it. From boy, she started taking out
some pitiful look at the angels and miss angel wings everywhere,
and how tiny was Rick at that point, knowing glue
ain't gonna happen. No, It was one of those moments
where you start thinking, Okay, so, I mean we don't
want to break the covenant. This doesn't this is not
in the scriptures. But I am clearly going to have
(01:31:17):
to live the rest of my life somewhere else, you know,
you know this is the Yeah, but no, And so
every time all that comes back out every year, well,
I'll tell you, I'm sure do you miss those angels? Yeah?
Oh yeah, I'm like you know, and you're gonna get blamed.
And plus by going up the stairs with stuff, I
get accused of scrubbing the wall. You just scrub the
(01:31:38):
wall to get that scrub mark. Let me tell you
what not to do that. Let me tell you what
not to say that like, let me tell you what
not to say. What do you see up said? This
is what this is what super glues for. Oh yeah,
that don't. I don't so you're not. That's just a
big deal.
Speaker 3 (01:31:52):
Seeing that's gorilla commercials.
Speaker 1 (01:31:53):
Yeah, the guy hanging with that hard hat. Every now
and then you'll see one that still makes a tree
that's injured but made it. If you look close at
it your eye. It's a little office. Yeah, he gotta
have a weeen. He's the one. He's telling the story
of something. The ornaments. You don't believe what happened in
twenty eleven.
Speaker 4 (01:32:12):
Did it sound like you think broke when you dropped
the box?
Speaker 1 (01:32:14):
Or it didn't to me, but apparently to share it
did and she was correct, and she.
Speaker 4 (01:32:19):
Was correct twenty nine years parried that.
Speaker 1 (01:32:22):
Oh wow, thank you, buddy. Shouldn't have brought that up.
Speaker 2 (01:32:26):
Top be this is the Rick Burgess show.
Speaker 1 (01:32:35):
I want to thank Jeff White for trusting me with
that and all that are involved with that great ministry,
and met some wonderful folks and one of the things
that that I loved is you know you're you're there.
And Jeff was being so accommodating, and he kept saying, look,
(01:32:55):
I know that you got a lot going on. I
know you've got two man church conferences coming up. I
know y'all got the New Show. Y'all y'all working like crazy.
So once we're done, you know, if you need to leave,
I understand. But I kept thinking, Wow, I'm I'm in
Louisiana and things in and at lunch, you know, and hungry,
(01:33:21):
and uh so then it happened. So then it happened. Yeah,
now it's up to you. Now. We we were we
were playing on taking taking y'all lunch bones is with
me and then of course pilot for this trip was
you know, the very the very hip, the very cool
Mickey And uh, you know, don't you love like a
guy who's he's you know, he's he's a little older,
(01:33:43):
his hair is completely gray, but he still wears it
long kind of you know, it's it's almost like you've
been flown there by, you know, Joe Walsh or something,
you know, and uh, he's like, you know, you know,
Mickey's up for anything.
Speaker 3 (01:33:55):
He always is.
Speaker 1 (01:33:56):
Micky'll go yeah, oh Micky a little pick're and not
expected sorry to eat something green. But so Mickey will
not eat anything green.
Speaker 3 (01:34:05):
He announces, I'm not eating anything.
Speaker 1 (01:34:07):
I will not anything green. He sures that you're in Louisiana.
You're not going to run into that lot, you know.
But so so anyway, you got to go always with
the locals. Right, that's Micky. Same. Look at where you
think he's not. You think you think Mickey cares on
the on the right, Yes, sir, there Mickey right, and
there's bones bones bones. He's a little tired these days.
(01:34:29):
He's tired. He seems tired.
Speaker 3 (01:34:35):
So uh, once again we picked something out of anything
we see and make fun of it, which is okay, okay.
Speaker 1 (01:34:42):
So you always want to go with the local man
smiling and you know when you he remember when I
told you I went up to the Georgia Tennessee line
that time. I know what sounds like that I'm going
out and doing these men's things really so I can
eat a good restaurants I'm saying there's a lot more
to it now. That table was bigger. Well, especially when
especially when.
Speaker 3 (01:35:00):
Don't forget Rix taking the picture he's got.
Speaker 4 (01:35:05):
That's a small table.
Speaker 1 (01:35:06):
It was a small table. But anyway, so especially couples talking,
especially when the food is coming, you know what I mean.
So you know how you just got you always go
with the locals. You think I didn't like the sound
of this, So what y'all thinking about taking him? We
would think about maybe taking me down that traps down
about the river.
Speaker 3 (01:35:23):
That's how they talk. And yeah, now you think you
got them died in Oh.
Speaker 1 (01:35:28):
Yeah, and I think you kind of you know, it's
an older like shack looking down there about a river.
Look at that right there, you got Look, let's see
the river behind me. City bridge, yeah, city bridge. Yeah. Yeah.
So I'm like, so I'm not what do you what
do y'all think I should get? I'm kind of I'm
kind of hung here between you know, maybe uh, maybe
(01:35:51):
the catfish. I tell you what I did like and
I just got Mickey to get it, and I took
one of his. Don't y'all love when fried shrimp is
like lightly dusted? Yes, it doesn't that they don't overbread.
It likely dusty.
Speaker 7 (01:36:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:36:06):
Side of fried shrimp here is good and you know,
just kind of a light dust on it. And I
but I couldn't commit to the shrimp because I saw
John Bealiah and a two f a and uh and
I said, talk to me, Oh, you got to go
with the A two fa. Okay, So I'm in. That's
all I need to hear, is that age I John
(01:36:27):
Balayah not bad, but I mean, you you gotta, you gotta,
you gotta get to a two faith. And then I
find myself kind of checking around, you know, looking at
others at the tables. I'll do that. As they're saying
it safe, people are nodding, and I look up in
the waitress like, no your head. Yeah, he's right, And
I'm like, well, bring that on and let me let
me tell you something. Let me tell you something. Friends.
(01:36:48):
I'm real picky about not picky, but I can be
a little weird about how catfish is done. What what
ended up is I got what I wanted, and then
I found myself sampling everybody else's stuff because I need bones.
You know, he's druggles a little bit. Uh, you know,
he'll he'll get he'll order too much. And so I
knew Bones would probably give me some catfish.
Speaker 4 (01:37:06):
And he did you eat bones of food when you
all travel together?
Speaker 1 (01:37:10):
If he didn't eat it? And then and then there's
Mickey Mickey. Now I will tell you this. Mickey was
serious about don't give me one shrimp. That's all I got.
Speaker 5 (01:37:17):
I found their website is this right here, right.
Speaker 1 (01:37:24):
Right there with the with the with the French bread
and the baby got that crawl fish in there says
crawlfish season.
Speaker 3 (01:37:33):
So you got you got some of that yellow.
Speaker 4 (01:37:35):
Cat red beans and rice showing up.
Speaker 1 (01:37:38):
I guarantee you'll like it.
Speaker 3 (01:37:39):
Geta So you got the truck. Bones drove fast, but
you got in the truck and you did you go, Hey,
it was worth it, there's one staying was worth it.
Speaker 1 (01:37:51):
It was absolutely worth it. Wish I could have taken
him maybe a quarter of the food I ate back,
not because it wasn't good, but because it just too much.
Speaker 3 (01:38:00):
How sleepy were you're driving back?
Speaker 1 (01:38:02):
So very sleepy, full stomach and so but it was, uh,
it was great. And I want to say this, and
that's it said. First of all, thanks to all of
you there. It was a wonderful weekend. I just want
to say, I think, you know, when you make a
transition that we've made and something with such incredible years
we had doing the Rick and Bubby Show, you know,
(01:38:23):
and this, you know, people get mad, people get angry.
You know, some people have been really negative, some people
have been really really, really vicious. But but I don't
want them to have you. But then God gives you
these people, like these wonderful people this weekend that are
so encouraging and are talking about, you know, a weird
(01:38:44):
concept that they actually liked what we did in the past,
but they also like what we're doing right now and
it's a weird concept. And they were just so so
encouraging and so kind, and so many of you are
you just it. It doesn't fall on deaf ears and
it matters, and it's it's been great. So they could
not have been more encouraging. And we saw God really
(01:39:07):
move this past weekend and it was just a wonderful
time and beautiful Monroe, Louisiana.
Speaker 2 (01:39:13):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:39:21):
All righty, So we are working through another one. Don't
forget the daily archives available on the YouTube channel in
our podcast channel Okay, so Ander goes hunting, try not
to let us all know, trying to keep a place
to himself.
Speaker 4 (01:39:38):
That's not accurate.
Speaker 1 (01:39:39):
And we keep wondering why even though they're the only
thing that he's seen this year are three deer that
he said he thought were deer but could have possibly
been dogs. But and so I have noticed that every
time he goes with us, he's obsessed with this bow
hunting thing. Okay, he's got to go, gotta be a
(01:40:00):
bow hunt.
Speaker 4 (01:40:01):
I just do it.
Speaker 1 (01:40:01):
I'm not We had an Indian headdress on us, yes,
And frankly, I thought the the loin cloth was very distracting.
And so in anyway the I would like to see you.
I don't think you worry about your scent enough. And
it concerns because sense enough. They don't like me. Oh,
(01:40:27):
they don't like ring. That's not what I was saying.
I don't never see I don't never see you put
on any scent on the block. But any of these
scent sprays, you know, you know, you'll kind of hang
around in there eating bacon, not thinking about you're getting
stuff on you. I wish you would worry if you're
gonna sit in the open like that in these ladder stands,
(01:40:50):
these lock ons, the bow hunt. You need to really
watch your scent.
Speaker 4 (01:40:54):
Okay, okay, hold you swear off. I need to know
we get to that. I need to know.
Speaker 1 (01:41:01):
Rick.
Speaker 5 (01:41:01):
Are you saying that I need to watch it more
than your your typical person?
Speaker 1 (01:41:07):
But I'm looking at this picture of you, you like
Bruce from Brave Heart. Somebody, somebody in the text line
said that I can't take credit for that, but that
is so accurate. That's so you're gonna You're going to
portray mel Gibson.
Speaker 3 (01:41:21):
I look cool, you're sticking out right there.
Speaker 1 (01:41:25):
You don't I can't even But anyway, know what was
your question?
Speaker 5 (01:41:28):
So are you saying more so a general the general
population or just the same.
Speaker 1 (01:41:35):
No, I was saying that, like you know how, sometimes
there's people that no no fault of their own, might
need a little more of something than somebody else. And
I'm just saying that when if any of us want
to neglect scent block, it shouldn't be you.
Speaker 3 (01:41:52):
Yeah, you need really dead down win.
Speaker 4 (01:41:54):
Okay, you gotta let.
Speaker 1 (01:41:57):
Get close to you so you know you got you closer.
Speaker 3 (01:42:00):
That is elevated and anybody needs to worry about the wind.
Speaker 5 (01:42:04):
Anybody that had thing that y'all are making fun of.
I did put on so that my hair wasn't just
out and in the wind, and legitimately I tried to
do that.
Speaker 1 (01:42:15):
You didn't care what you that's not about.
Speaker 3 (01:42:18):
You need to cover that face up.
Speaker 1 (01:42:19):
All that takes is that mustache, buddy.
Speaker 4 (01:42:21):
I pulled it up later and my beard probably had
like cheese smelling it.
Speaker 1 (01:42:25):
Yeah, that's what. Can I tell you this? The word
I would use adler, and I'm going to say this
as lovingly as I can. The word I would use
is earthy. Now there's a sight of me that.
Speaker 12 (01:42:37):
They now what what I would just say is if
you want to make it's if I when I if
I said earthy, all I meant was a dirt smell.
Speaker 1 (01:42:51):
I think you're all right, you know, because that's they're
going to think that's normal.
Speaker 4 (01:42:55):
I put all my stuff in a box.
Speaker 1 (01:42:58):
Your body, I think of the body, think yeah, because
you don't put your body in the right Yeah, do
you you're talking about what the clothes go on?
Speaker 4 (01:43:06):
When do y'all when y'all last before your hunt? When
do you shower last?
Speaker 5 (01:43:10):
Because you don't want to be coming in there out
there with the all shampoos.
Speaker 1 (01:43:13):
No I have. I have dead down with shampoot and soap,
so it's actually helping.
Speaker 4 (01:43:20):
Do you use we're using special soap. I didn't know
we're using specially.
Speaker 1 (01:43:25):
If you would ever go into one of the bathrooms
where the showers are at campus, you would find it
if you ever thought about taking a shower when you're there.
Speaker 4 (01:43:33):
Soap with my heads weren't smelling good after going in
the bathroom. I was using this note smell free soap.
Speaker 1 (01:43:40):
I noticed he kept smelling his fingers, going, what's going on? Right?
The so I even have in this I know you've
sworn this off. We even have scent blocked the odor.
Speaker 3 (01:43:51):
Yeah, but he's anti deodorant.
Speaker 4 (01:43:53):
Well, did y'all have fun?
Speaker 1 (01:43:55):
You know sometimes how you say things that were never
never see that was not necessary? Didn't he have his
sweat glands in his under own? I forgot about that.
Speaker 4 (01:44:01):
I got them zapped by microwaves.
Speaker 5 (01:44:03):
I'm already going to get cancer, so I'm not adding
alluminum to them.
Speaker 1 (01:44:07):
You guys know it must have worked, because I remember
when you first started working here, you'd get wet pits.
It must have worked. It did work. I think it did. Yeah,
but you may want to. I don't think that deer
expect hemp. That's not right.
Speaker 4 (01:44:22):
Yeah, that's true. That's good view. Willy Nelson in the wood.
Speaker 1 (01:44:28):
One, Dear Joe, not believe this, Willy Nelson's hun Watch So.
Speaker 5 (01:44:32):
Just back up right from behind me? Here came up
right here they were right.
Speaker 1 (01:44:37):
So you had a shot shooter. Yeah, why didn't you
just shoot one of them? There? But they ate good?
Speaker 5 (01:44:41):
Well, they were so small. You're just like, man, there's
a deer right there in my range. I could I
could bust this buddy, But then you'd come back, like I.
Speaker 1 (01:44:50):
Said, walking like this right.
Speaker 4 (01:44:55):
Like a.
Speaker 1 (01:44:57):
Look, that's the biggest duck it was.
Speaker 4 (01:45:00):
Yeah, So I didn't. Uh, and then the sun went down,
and then.
Speaker 5 (01:45:05):
Uh, I actually got down the ladder stand and then
scared those same three little young ands out of the
green field. I'm like, wow, So I mean down the
ladder and y'all didn't even run away. It might not
be me that y'all might just be young and dumb.
Speaker 1 (01:45:16):
You know. No, maybe you're doing what you need to do.
Maybe you're doing what you need to do. It just
you don't seem as committed to your your scent.
Speaker 3 (01:45:24):
Yeah, listen, maybe they had a sinus infection.
Speaker 1 (01:45:26):
You just couldn't smell. You know, I do going around.
Speaker 4 (01:45:30):
I have one.
Speaker 1 (01:45:30):
I actually have one, right but but but some of
those smooth. But I know some people that if you
if you said.
Speaker 5 (01:45:44):
Guy, because it's seventy five degrees, there's a sweaty guy
in that tree right there.
Speaker 1 (01:45:50):
Wrong, he's holding the just cool here and get a
show off? Is that? Frank henswer Man a thousand voices
does deer from here? Right? I think humans call it incense?
Speaker 4 (01:46:17):
Yeah, and onions too.
Speaker 1 (01:46:18):
Yeah, well that's all right, man, you get it.
Speaker 4 (01:46:21):
Whatever you stink.
Speaker 5 (01:46:22):
And you decided you used to stink, Now the time
to tell me you used to stink.
Speaker 1 (01:46:27):
Remember people, you know, since you got married, you don't
stink there like you stood. I would introduce the people.
I said, he looks like he stinks, but he doesn't.
Speaker 4 (01:46:37):
I think that was really really nice.
Speaker 1 (01:46:39):
Yeah, so nice, Greg was nicer. He's gotten Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:46:44):
You know, I know he looks like a couple.
Speaker 1 (01:46:47):
When you first see him. You're not going to want
to close the distance when you and him. Go ahead,
go ahead, because it's fine. He's fine.
Speaker 4 (01:46:55):
Honestly.
Speaker 5 (01:46:56):
At some point I even pulled the uh the thing
whatever backle of us scarf thing over my head, over my.
Speaker 1 (01:47:03):
Just looking.
Speaker 3 (01:47:04):
Uh they smell your breath too.
Speaker 4 (01:47:06):
I know I covered my I really did cover up
my mustache.
Speaker 1 (01:47:09):
I was doing no breathe.
Speaker 4 (01:47:10):
I was going nose only.
Speaker 1 (01:47:12):
I was like Rambow.
Speaker 3 (01:47:13):
And you know, if you it was one with the forest.
Speaker 4 (01:47:15):
And if you just suck it and shut up.
Speaker 1 (01:47:17):
By the way, by the way, if you pulled that
all his nose, you look, wow, already hunting. It's like
a little you know, when I get one with my
with my spear. You're right, yeah, I just think you
stand corrected these deer and walked under you. So you
certainly were not.
Speaker 4 (01:47:38):
You very young and dumb so that.
Speaker 1 (01:47:42):
They still don't know what's up.
Speaker 4 (01:47:44):
I did need that, you know, when you're just like
I need.
Speaker 1 (01:47:47):
I needed to see it.
Speaker 4 (01:47:48):
And it was a nice way to end the season
at least to see some deer, and you know, needed that.
Speaker 1 (01:47:54):
Thank goodness, I said here and I got to see this.
Speaker 4 (01:47:56):
That was miserable at Rick's place, freezing, mom.
Speaker 1 (01:47:59):
It was.
Speaker 4 (01:48:01):
Come not feel my toes for an hour and a half.
Speaker 1 (01:48:03):
Right, Okay, this is.
Speaker 4 (01:48:04):
Not didn't see Jack.
Speaker 1 (01:48:05):
How about you? How about you were sounding pretty outdoorsy.
You just killed it. Yeah, you just killed it right here.
Speaker 4 (01:48:12):
I need better footwear.
Speaker 5 (01:48:14):
I've actually had these boots for like ten years, and
they're like, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:48:17):
That's the first thing I asked you about some new
what was his number, I don't know, six hundred to get.
Speaker 4 (01:48:24):
A bazooka in some boots for next year.
Speaker 1 (01:48:27):
All right, we'll be right about.
Speaker 2 (01:48:30):
This is the Rick Burgess Show.
Speaker 1 (01:48:38):
Thank you for being with us, Speedy, Greg Adler, the
gang all here.
Speaker 3 (01:48:42):
We recapped a lot today.
Speaker 1 (01:48:45):
Any part you missed just go to our archives today,
either on the YouTube channel or the podcast channel. Uh.
We will start focusing a little more as we get
closer through the week on Valentine's Day, So catch some
of that. We got some things we're ruing that I
think you may enjoy this week.
Speaker 6 (01:49:03):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:49:03):
Somebody off the text line, I like to hear Dicky
Nadmire way in on the fact that basically Alabama stars
won the Super Bowl. You darn right they did. Road Tag.
Wait a minute, road Tad, Wait, not so fast, Jalen
hurts DeVante Smith, road Tad. Thisw this is my problem
(01:49:26):
with the Jalalen with the with the situation with our
new coach deboo. Apparently the Philadelphia Eagles can take Bama
players and win the Super Bowl. We can't win with
Bama top players playing college didn't Jame No did not?
Who can claim him? You know, Alabama can blame him
(01:49:48):
because Shaban is the one who brought him in developed
and but if they don't mention him, he probably stays there.
Excuse me? What's that sound? What's an all bee? There's
the an all beach. Here's the sound of an Albury.
Thank goodness, you didn't go to Auburn. Well, you have
a great point there. Look what y'all do the quarterbacks down?
Speaker 10 (01:50:07):
There?
Speaker 1 (01:50:08):
Ain't nobody in the NFL taking him road, Tad Jalen
hurts is Obama always will be part of Bama. And uh,
I don't recall him playing for Oklahoma, So I'm mentioning it.
Don't remember it, and I'll know this. And does Auburn
claim Bownicks or his Oregon? Well, according to bow Nicks,
he doesn't want Auburn to claim him at all. Well,
(01:50:29):
we understand, go Ducks now.
Speaker 3 (01:50:30):
On the Philadelphia Eagles website, under the roster it says,
and I'm looking at it, college is Oklahoma. That's just
what it says.
Speaker 1 (01:50:38):
No, he went to Oklahoma. Looking at it, really, when
he went to Oklahoma, it was like he already graduated
from Alabama. We brought in Tongue Lua and I was
never a fan. I always thought Jayleen was better road Tack,
and he's proved it on the field. Yeah, road Tad,
I think both can probably claim him. I mean he
did play for both. Did did you see one de
(01:51:00):
Bunte going into the end jone for the nailing the
coffin road tag? Did you know can thank shaving as
we all can thank you Shaban prayer?
Speaker 3 (01:51:12):
Super Bowl victory, Road Tad, I didn't know that ies
came with it first time I've noticed road Ted.
Speaker 1 (01:51:19):
So uh. But you look on the text option and
you see people saying that he's a singer. They're claiming
him for Oklahoma. There's there's no he got well, if
he don't get manched, he doesn't leave Alabama. Right. The
development was from Shaven. Yeah, No, don't get me wrong.
Tuger below is obviously very good too.
Speaker 3 (01:51:37):
It was the right decision at the time.
Speaker 1 (01:51:39):
If if he can stay, help never agreed with Jalen
being benched. He's proven I was right.
Speaker 4 (01:51:45):
I always said that.
Speaker 1 (01:51:46):
Can I tell you the thing that I love about
Jalen Hurts. I saw his pre uh game interview when
when he is being interviewed and I can't remember who
interviewed him. Was it straight hand? I can't remember. Man
a lot coming at me. But he was asked, do
you think if you win this the super Bowl, that
(01:52:07):
your critics will will finally shut up? And he goes,
what makes you think me win the super Bowl is
gonna make people stop being critical? He took him to task.
He's like, that ain't gonna happen. He's right, he said,
people are gonna be critical. As we will know, people
are gonna be critical no matter what I did, no
matter how many times I prove what they're saying wrong.
Some people are just gonna be They're gonna wait till
(01:52:27):
the next time they can be critical and be critical
then exactly right. But but I like that he seems
to understand that critics just part of it. It is
need to go. They're gonna love you when you win,
and they're gonna be critical when you lose or if
you or if you don't win the right way. That's
the one I love. We're winning, but I don't like
the way you win. I like the way you're w.
Speaker 4 (01:52:48):
Yeah, he's to Davante.
Speaker 1 (01:52:51):
We called this window road, tad road.
Speaker 4 (01:52:56):
We call this grave digger.
Speaker 1 (01:52:58):
And here comes to your Super Bowl Obama touchdown.
Speaker 4 (01:53:03):
Bamabama A G.
Speaker 10 (01:53:05):
E L S.
Speaker 3 (01:53:08):
So what do y'all think about the sports bug on
the bottom.
Speaker 1 (01:53:11):
Hated it. It was informative, you could see what was what,
but it looked cheap. It did and just something about
it look cheap, but it was clear. I did not.
I thought it was stupid.
Speaker 3 (01:53:23):
You thought it was.
Speaker 1 (01:53:24):
It was one of this is one of those things
where you change for the sake of changing, but it
has no merit and it doesn't improve, you know, it
just it just it didn't look any bad if you're
gonna if you're going to make it. Oh, baseball plays
are zon there's you can't you can't tell what's what?
A lot of it on strikes and who were base
I would like to point out that Bama players even
(01:53:48):
make the mascot Eagle look good rotate, So there you go. Also,
earlier somebody was asking with us celebrating, uh, me celebrating
the anniversary today. Somebody it was earlier on the scrolls,
but you don't have to go find it was. And
they were asking about that, you know, anytime you start
talking about that, you know everything that Sherry and I
had been through, and everybody brings up when you know
(01:54:08):
we've been through a number of you know, battles and
all that, and they were talking about you know what,
I remember when Sherry and I were told this on
the the one that probably was the when you think
about it, wasn't our only battle, but it's the one
that most of you know about. And that's when the
earthly death of our youngest son. And I remember, and
this is just a marriage thing. I'll throw out since
(01:54:29):
some of you were asking earlier and got a few
emails on it today when you I never will forget
when someone well meaning, I guess, but boy, the timing
was just terrible that someone mentioned to us, you know,
when we were you know, most most marriages don't survive
this kind of stuff. And I remember thinking, wow, that's
what an upbeat, wonderful, encouraging thing to say. And and
(01:54:52):
you know can and Sherry's done a real good job
when she gets to speak of disputing that. Do you
know that that isn't true. It's not true at all.
Calamity you've heard before, like on character when somebody says
that calamity and difficulty doesn't make character. It just reveals
it whether it's there or not. It's really the same
way in marriage marriage that marriages that were already in
(01:55:14):
trouble when they face difficulty, no, they don't do very
well at all. But marriages that are solid as a rock,
they really they don't crumble in these kind of situations.
They actually they actually thrive and so it doesn't it
doesn't destroy a marriage when you go through difficulty. People thok, hell,
(01:55:35):
you know this, these things are difficult. They really aren't
what it usually does. It just reveals the state of
the marriage all along. That makes sense. Marriages that don't
survive this kind of stuff were already in trouble. They
were not good marriages. They weren't solid. But when you see,
I mean we're not there example. There's many others. But
if a marriage is solid before you ever encounter anything
(01:55:57):
like this, the marriage actually thrives in difficulty. It doesn't
crumble because you know what to do, because you've been
living out marriage the way it was intended, and so
when difficulty comes, it actually makes you stronger. We found
that it actually drove us together stronger than it made
us weaker or more difficult, and because that was the
(01:56:19):
state of the marriage anyway. So yeah, some people have
thrown that out there, like there's some study that's been
done about that. It's really a bunch of hogwass. Sherry
found that it was really just an opinion someone had.
There was no resource to support it whatsoever. So that
actually isn't true. So when you see a marriage that
struggles through something like that, the marriage had issues before
(01:56:42):
that struggle ever came along. So it really doesn't destroy
strong marriages. It reveals the state of a marriage. So
just like the whole thing about character. So somebody was
asking about that. So my advice to you is not to,
you know, go around one. Oh no, I hope that
something doesn't come along. That's so difficult, is you know,
(01:57:05):
just just do marriage the way that that the person
who created it, we would call the one and only
living God, how how he created marriage. Do it that way.
Certainly we're flawed people. We're all gonna have bad days
and days that we don't do so well. But if
we if if you keep coming back to you know,
like we always say, when when Sherry and I are
(01:57:25):
doing marriage, sooner or later we run into Jesus and
then Jesus corrects us if we're wrong, uh, and then
we find our way back to each other, because we
can't justify treating each other in a way that dishonors Christ.
Even on the days where I'm sure that I am
very difficult uh to to love and respect, Sherry does
(01:57:46):
what Jesus told him to do, and I and I
try to do what Jesus told me to do. And
on the days that that's all you got, it's still enough.
So there you go. So uh, and there's always there's
always an answer. So thanks for that question, and thanks
for all the well wishes today, and we'll be back
(01:58:06):
with another edition of the show, hopefully hopefully either tomorrow
