Speaker 1 (00:00):
Folks, Welcome back to Wake Guns that presented it by
the Ring. Today's video breaking news. Jake Paul's announced his
next fight, and I don't even know what to think
about it. I don't know if I don't like it,
or if I just don't really feel a certain way
about it, or if I feel like it could potentially
go very very badly, which are all things going through
my mind.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Let's talk about it to break down. Let's go.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
So rumors were Jake Paul was ready to announce a
fight for this summer. It's been a couple of weeks
of teasing this announcement from MVP and Jake Paul's team,
and finally as of today and really yesterday, reported by
Mike Coppinger over at the Ring, but now officially confirmed
by the Man Jake Pauler himself, Jake Paul will be

(00:43):
fighting Julio Caesar Chavez Junior on June twenty eighth in Anaheim, California.
This fight's in my backyard, so that's pretty cool. I
will say, yeah, have Golden Boy in co promotion. It'll
be live on his own pay per view and also
on the undercards. Zerdo Ramirez is fighting, so this is awesome.
He's defending his el. That's pretty cool because Zudo is

(01:03):
one of the baddest one of the walk in the
planet right now, especially that Cruiser way, and to have
him on a card again, regardless of what we think
about the main event, and we'll get to that in
a second, you have to give Jake some credit for
featuring big name fighters, even if they're on his undercard
games like Ramirez obviously, Amanda Serrano, He's at Julio Seser
Chavez on his undercard before. Jake's also had Demetrius Andred

(01:25):
on his card as well. There's been I think even
Tevin Farmer was on one of his early cards. So
this is a cool thing that I think Jake does,
and yes, call it glaze, but we have to also
give credence to what he's doing over on the women's
side of boxing right now as a promoter, as someone
to use his spotlight to shine onto other boxers. He's
doing a pretty good job of that. But before we
get into it, let me read Jake's post here. He says,

(01:47):
five years ago, I stepped into the boxing ring for
my pro debut after one amateur fight, and every fight
since it has been a step towards becoming a world champion.
I just defeated the baddest man on the planet and
broke multiple records. And now I'm going up against former
world champion with fifty four wins, who Canelo could bare
Oh no, we'll talk about that in a second. Chavez
Junior is Mexican, but I el Gaio de Dorado, Mexican.

(02:10):
Knockt Okay. This is Adrian broner Line, Mexican. Knock him
the fuck out. On Saturday, June twenty eighth, live on
his own pay per view, I will defeat Julio and
make Chavez Senior proud in ways Junior never has Viva
la Puerto Rico. Okay, So first off, let's talk about
a couple of things. Number One, Canello did not barely
beat Julio Caesar Chavez Junior. He destroyed Julio Caesar Chavez.

(02:35):
He smoked him twelve rounds to zero in their matchup.
And it was rumored at that time that the reason
that Canelo didn't knock out Jiavez Junior is because of
the respect he had for Senior and Senior being in.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
The crowd that night.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
And I never know how to take any of that
stuff like, I never know if that's true or not,
but it would make a lot of sense because Canelo
was so much better than Chavez Junior that night, and
quite frankly, always that Senior himself. It's kind of anointed
Canelo as you know, boxing's face, and it was kind
of right after Canelo spanked his son. So yeah, you
can see Jake doing a little bit of the spin

(03:08):
cycle there to try to give more credence to this matchup,
and to be fair, like sure, there is something to
be said for Jake fighting Julio sayser chovas forward trying
to get to his goals, and I don't mean for
him trying to pursue more or less challenging fights. It's
the idea of him stepping toward a world championship. It's
already been put out there. I'm pretty sure Mendoza has

(03:29):
already kind of tweeted out at some point that he
wouldn't mind putting Jake Paul versus Juliosaser Chavez Junior in
a fight for a championship.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Does he mean a world championship.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
No way, But I have to assume he means like
a you know, international or some sort of lower level bell, which, again,
when you talk about the politics of boxing and all
of the different committees and all of the different commissions
and sanctioning bodies, there is something to be said for
Jake's popularity in the WBA, which is Silver Mendoz's organization.

(04:01):
They want to be in the Jake Paul business. So
for what Jake's trying to do fight for a world title,
this is going to put him closer to doing that
just by pure name value of him and again Julio
Caesar Chavez, lineage, name value of Chavez seen. But as
far as the competition level in this fight, it's a
bit of a mixed bag because number one, Jake is

(04:22):
fighting a way past his prime Julio Caesar Chavez Junior.
I think everybody can admit that we know that he
struggled with drug usage. We know that Jake has already
beat the last man to beat Julio Caesar Chavez Junior
in Anderson Silva, and Anderson's i think first or second
fight as a boxer, walked in and pretty much styled
on Javez Junior in a pretty uneventful fight where both

(04:44):
guys didn't land a ton and the same ghosts that
have haunted Chavez Junior in that fight, in the Canelo fight,
his lack of output potentially could haunt him in this fight.
And again, the substance abuse potentially is a big reason
for a lot of the downhill slide that we've seen
from z June, not justin Anderson Silvi fight, but just
the inactivity in the in and out of rehab. And

(05:05):
this is in no way shape or for me trying
to use this as some sort of crutch about a
Jake Paul fight. I genuinely just want Chivez Junior to
be healthy.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
And I'll say this.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
If he's able to fight, and he's taking this far
more serious and he's not struggling with addiction issues like
he has for so long in his pro career, this
fight does become a little bit of a dangerous one
for Jake. Not because Chivas Junior is a you know,
in his prime anymore. He's still going to be a
shell of that early twenties Juliosaser Chavez, but with sixty

(05:36):
wins under his belt, if there is still any of
that muscle memory left, there's still any go left in
his body. Because again I hate to keep referring to it.
Doing drugs or having addiction issues does take its toll
on your body, and sometimes it isn't recoverable, especially as
you're going up in weight. Juliosaser Chiva is not a
normal cruiser weight, so he's going to be moving up

(05:56):
as he gets older. How does that until what he's
going to do in this fight, I don't know, but
I'll tell you I watched him ringside against Uriah Hall,
and it wasn't an impressive performance when he beat you
Ryah Hall in a six round fight. Honestly, when I
watched the fight back, it looked like the only reason
he beat you Ryah Hall in that fight was because Uriah,
like most MMA fighters when they come to boxing, don't
take credence of the rules set right.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
They get hit with a ton of shots that.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Don't hurt them, but also they're getting hit with shots
that are scoring against him. Uriah Hall didn't look overwhelmed
in that fight at all. In fact, you look like
he was in the fight with Chavez Junior, and that
in its own riot. It is pretty damning because while
he won the fight, that was Jeriah Hall's first boxing
match ever and Uriah was not a young guy at
that point. The point I'm making with all of this
is I get what Jake is doing here, and fair

(06:40):
play to him. Again, you do have to remember Jake
didn't have an amateur career, Like he didn't do anything
as an amateur before he turned pro and started fighting people.
So that's always a little thing you have to keep
in your mind when you're talking about Jake taking fights
like this.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
It may not be what I want.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
That's a selfish thing for me to say, because I
wanted Tommy Fury fight for Jake. I think that they
potentially wanted that fight. Tommy Fury eems like he's a
little bit hard to deal with and negotiate with because
of the cash that he needs to come and say yes.
And again, business is business whatever. But outside of that,
you know who else is there for Jake right now? Like, yeah,
there's there's probably prospects at his level at his age,

(07:18):
but he is trying to sell a pay per view here.
I don't know how this pay per view will do.
But Chiavez Junior's name is synonymous with boxing lore and
obviously with his dad, so we'll see. But yeah, no,
I this would not have been my first choice as
someone that wants to see Jake progress. It is a
bit of a head scratcher to go. Where are we
gonna take this? What route are we trying to go
for Jake? If it's all about the World Championship, then okay.

(07:41):
Fair Again, the playing the politics game here and getting
a name like Chivez Junior on your resume and also
getting his win to loss ratio on your resume like
a void of context. Getting Chivez Junior with a fifty
four and six record on your resume as a double
you giving him his seventh loss, that's a massive accomplishment.
And again I will say that while I think Jake
should be favored in this fight.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Which is crazy to say, if Chiavez.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
Junior is healthy and he is not again struggling with
addiction issues, and he's in the gym and he's taken
this seriously, which is something that we cannot say for
Chavez Junior over the last Let's take a look at
his boxer. He lost to Anderson Silva, won a decision,
and then took three years off from the sport. But
even before that, he fought twice in twenty twenty, went
one and one he fought twice in twenty nineteen after

(08:26):
taking two years off before that, and went one and one,
losing to Daniel Jacobs and again. Obviously, the downhill turn
came pretty much after the Canel Alvarez fight. But the
point I'm making is we haven't seen a serious Juliosser
Chivez Junior in five years, so does he still even
have the capability to do that?

Speaker 2 (08:44):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
I'm not betting on it because I've seen this story
before with Chavez, so I just I.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Genuinely don't think so.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
But if he does, let's not act like this man
got absolutely destroyed, beat up pillar to post and just
knocked out unconscious by Anderson Silva. I think a lot
of people know that Anderson Silva won that fight absolutely,
but that Juliosser Javez was going through some issues outside
of the ring and just didn't look like he was
interested in even fighting inside.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Again, not making excuses, all I'm saying is if.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Jake gets Julio Caesar Chavez lean, dedicated, healthy and ready,
that won't be the same guy that Anderson Silva beat.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
I'm gonna tell you that now.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
And this is supposed to be a ten round fighter,
where again, experience will matter, and Jake's had one or
two of these, but Chavez Junior has had many in
his career. Coming up to cruiserweight will be a big difference.
But I think depending on how Chavez shows up, how
dedicated he is, this could get a little interesting for
Jake because Jake has been a more experienced boxer than
almost everyone he's beat.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
He was more.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
Experienced as a boxer than Nate Diez, than Anderson Silva,
Let's be honest, even though it was a really kind
of narrow margin than Tyron Woodley, then Ben Askern as
far as the guys that were more experienced than him
you're talking about, you know, Mike Tyson. Obviously, the age
difference completely neutralizes that Andre August and Ryan Borland as
much as they get meaned, I thought those were good

(10:02):
fights for Jake at the time because of what he
was trying to do.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
He's gonna try to get.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
More experience you do it versus guys that are more
experienced than you. So this kind of falls in that
same path for me, Like I don't get the fight.
As far as Jake being a global superstar and trying
to have big events, and even trying to level up
his competition. As crazy as it sounds, I don't know
if right now, Julio sayser Chavez Junior is better than
some of the guys Jake has already fought. I mean,
on paper, there's some silver beat it. Then again, on paper,

(10:28):
Jivez Junior is a former world champ. So you have
this ambiguity in what we're about to see here. I
think it'll be a little tougher than people expect, just
like the Mike Perry fight was a little tougher than
people expected.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Yes it was short notice, Yes Jake was.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Overweight and came down, but Mike Perry, with relatively new
levels of boxing skills, was able to hold his own
in that fight, even coming up to two hundred. This
will be the most experienced and for that experience, the
youngest Jake is fu I do believe Jake can win
this fight, and I'm go out in a limb here
and say he will win this fight. I'm not gonna
sit here and act like it's a cakewalk, because it's not.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
I'll just put it like this. Anderson Silva was not
a cakewalk. When Jake beat him, he beat him and.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
He did so, and I thought a convincing fashion, but
it wasn't a complete domination of Anderson Silva. And I
think that Anderson Silva the night he beat Julio Sayser,
Chivez Junior absolutely put on a display.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
He was doing his thing. He won, and Chivez Junior
light out, straight up. That's what happened.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
And if that version of Chavez Junior shows up against Jake,
Jake'll knock him out for sure. I am just cautiously
optimistic that that is not the version that showed. If
it isn't the version that shows, and again, Chivez Junior
is training hard, and he is healthy, and he is motivated,
and it'll be a night out that's probably harder than
any other night Jake has had since the Tommy Fury.
As a matter of fact, not probably will be the
hardest night Jake's head out since the Tommy Fury fight.

(11:42):
So in that respect, I get it. I'm not mad
at it. Now. If we are trying to answer this
question of why Jake would fight Julio Sayser Chiveez Junior,
it's one I think a boxing politics play, but to
a scenario in which he can start to build another fight.
Let's be honest, Jake wanted Canelo out. That was the
fight that I guess was closer. Maybe not, I don't know,

(12:04):
but that's the one they want him. In the wording
of this statement already, he says that he's going to
go against a former world champion with fifty four wins
who Canelo could barely beat. Now, again, he's incorrect. Canelo
stomped the shit out of Julio Sayser Chivez Junior. But
the idea has to be he's gonna go in there
and try to knock Juliosayser Chivez Junior out so that

(12:25):
he can then push toward that Canelo fight, saying he
did what Canelo couldn't. Now, that's devoid of a lot
of context, and we've already talked about that, but that
this has to be it like that in my mind?
Is it Jake wants to knock out Julio Sayser Chivez
Junior and then use it as a way to say
I can do things Canelo can't do. We should make
that fight. That's That's where I'm getting at with this
whole thing. And again, it's not a bad play and Also,

(12:48):
if Jake was to knockout Julio, says Jivez Junior, I
would give him a shit ton of respect use regardless
of what Chives Junior's gone through and the way everything else.
I get all that, but the guy still is the
best thing he's seen since Tommy Fury in as sixty
fight stepped in. There were some of the highest level guys,
So Jake knocking him out would be impressive and I
would give him.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
His credit for it.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
So that has to be the answer, at least from
my perspective as to why Jake and his team see
this fight as valuable win a lot of the online
space and a lot of the pro boxing space necessarily, don't.
This is all in theory from me and on paper
from what I'm seeing, and this fight won't be competed
with those parameters. I'm telling you guys right now, on

(13:29):
both sides, the good of Julio Osaser Chavez the bad,
the good of Jake Paul the bad, all that stuff
on paper, throw it out the window, because we're gonna
get a version of these two guys that we just
haven't seen, at least not in a long time.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
That's what I believe.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
I think Julio Caesar Chavez Junior understands how important this
could be for potentially getting him yes money in this fight,
but one more big money fight or whatever. And Jake
has to understand that this is make or break time.
You lose this one, it's oh, you win this one,
everything keeps on rolling. I know those are the stakes
pretty much every time Jake fights, but this one feels
particularly more important that he has to win, and not

(14:05):
only that he has to win, but he has to
do it in a way that gets the people to
say this is a better version of Jake than I've seen,
because the last couple of fights haven't given that. And again,
whatever the reason is for that short notice, potentially injured,
just not having his best night out, Jake can't have.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
One of those performances here.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
He has to go out and absolutely, without a shadow
of a doubt, prove that he has gotten better and
show the levels he's gotten better in. If that's enough
to beat Leo Seser Chavez Junior, then they'll move on
to the next thing. As far as the prediction, yeah,
I do think Jake's gonna win this fight. I do.
What I want to see is an improved version of Jake.
I want to see his feet under him. I want
to see a snappy jab I want to see the
big power that he always has in his hands, delivered

(14:42):
without so much effort and so much of his gas
tank being used. If he's gonna be at cruiserweight and
he's really going to try to make this push, whatever
he's gonna try to do with it, we're gonna have to.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
See how he carries cruiser weight.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Because the Mike Perry fight, he looked a little winded
as he got into rounds five and six. Again, I
know the parameters for it that can't happen. So yeah,
that's kind of where I leave this. I think again,
Jake wins this, But like I said, if Julio sayser
Chavez is clean, he's dedicated, this could.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
Be more of a problem than people expect. He's that
in mind.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
But you guys, let me know what you think down below.
What happens next with this Jake Paul fight. It's in
my backyard. We'll see what happens, but stay locked in,
and this one's a couple of months away.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
We'll keep breaking things down. We'll go back and look
at some fights and everything else.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
As far as what happens on fight night in Anaheim, California,
I don't have those answers, but I guess we'll find
out
