In a world filled with doubts, fears, and constant battles for our hearts and minds, standing firm in faith can feel overwhelming. Thankfully, God has already equipped us with everything we need to face these challenges: the Armor of God.

In this episode of What’s God Got to Do With It?, Leanne dives into one of the most practical and empowering tools in Scripture. Drawing from her own experiences, along with stories from her clients, she breaks down the six pieces of the Armor of God and shows how they can help us navigate life’s spiritual battles with strength and confidence.

Join Leanne as she unpacks what it means to “put on” the Armor of God daily and how to:

- Anchor yourself in God’s truth to combat lies and comparison.
- Protect your heart with the righteousness that comes from Jesus, not your own efforts.
- Stand firm in peace, even when life feels chaotic.
- Use faith, salvation, and God’s Word as both defense and offense in your spiritual walk.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
If you want to go on a journey. If you're skeptical,
don't worry. Now here to preach. Gonna keep it clean
and talk to me and recall where faith needs falls
of nature and get in touch with your creator with
a bacon, love and jew She even speaks Hebrew. What's that, Gonzato?

(00:31):
What's that? As well? Sabosation, you should talking transformation? What's that? Gonzato? Hey?

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Hey, and welcome back to what's God got to do
with it? And today I'm really excited to talk about
something that completely rocked my world when I first learned
about it. And it's the Armor of God. And so
here's the thing. I didn't grow up in church, and
I wasn't sitting in Sunday school learning about Jesus, let
alone hearing about armor. And as a Jewish girl, my

(01:05):
relationship with God was rooted in tradition and culture. But
I never really thought about God as someone that I
could lean on for every day battles. I don't even
think I thought about God, to be honest, because the
concept just wasn't part of my worldview. And so fast
forward to about five years ago, when I started walking
with Jesus. Suddenly I was hearing about things like spiritual

(01:28):
battles and the armor of God, and at first, I
honestly didn't get it, and it felt like this abstract,
metaphorical concept, you know, something that sounded nice, but I
didn't understand how it applied to my actual, messy, day
to day life. But then life started doing what life does.
It started lifing, and the doubts crept in and the

(01:50):
fears got loud, and the comparison game with social media
became a breeding ground for perfectionism in comparison itis, and
I started to realize I was in a battle, just
not the kind that I could see with my eyes.
And that's when this concept of the armor of God
stopped being just an idea and it started becoming essential

(02:11):
for me. But here's the thing. I needed to break
it down like I was back in fifth grade, because
I'm all about practical, actionable steps, and if I couldn't
understand how to apply this to my life, then what
was the point. So today, that's what I want to
do for you. I want to break it down in
a way that makes sense and show you how you
can actually use the armor of God every single day.

(02:35):
So what is the armor of God. Well, let's start
with the foundation. In Ephesian six ten through eighteen, Paul
lays it all out for us. He writes, Finally, be
strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put
on the full armor of God, so that you can
take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle

(02:58):
is not against flesh blood, but against the rulers, against
the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and
against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore,
put on the full armor of God, so that when
the day of evil comes, you may be able to

(03:18):
stand your ground. And after you have done everything to stand,
then Paul gives us a list, and this is the armor.
There's the belt of truth, the breast plate of righteousness,
the shoes of the Gospel of Peace, the shield of faith,
the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit.

(03:42):
Now let me pause here, because if you're anything like me,
you might be thinking, okay, great, like, now, what does
this mean? Right? Like? What am I supposed to do
with all of this? And that's exactly what I asked myself.
And here's what I've learned. First of all, the armor
is already available like, you don't have to earn it
or be good enough for it. It is an absolute

(04:03):
gift from God. It is a gift from your heavenly Father.
And then, second of all, and this is where the
free will comes in. It is our job to actually
put it on right. And so God provides the armor,
but he doesn't force us to wear it. And we
have to choose to equip ourselves and use the gift
that He's given us. And so this was a light

(04:24):
bulb moment for me because it showed me that God
isn't asking us to fight these battles alone. He's given
us everything that we need. We just have to use it.
So why do we need the armor of God? Well,
here's the why behind the what we are in a battle, okay,
And Paul makes it clear that our struggles aren't just
about what we see in front of us. And sure

(04:46):
there are real life challenges, you know, relationships and work
and finances and health and all the curve balls that
come up in life. But underneath all of that is
a spiritual battle. And the enemy wants to steal your
joy and kill your confidence and destroy your peace. And
so John ten Ten puts it perfectly. It says, the

(05:07):
thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I
have come that they may have life and have it
to the full. And so here's the kicker. The enemy
knows exactly where to aim. And I don't believe he's
coming for the surface level stuff either. He's going straight
for your mind and your heart and your spirit. And

(05:27):
that's why the Armor of God isn't just a nice idea.
I truly believe it's essential. And so for me, this
realization changed everything. Like I wasn't just dealing with doubts
and fears because I was weak or broken. I was
in a battle and I needed to suit up. Okay,
so let's just start breaking down the armor piece by piece,

(05:49):
and I'm gonna break it down again, like I said,
like we're back in fifth grade, because honestly, that's what
I needed. And So here's what each piece of the
Armor of God means and how you can actually use
it in your deal life. So first, there's the belt
of Truth, and the belt is the foundation. It holds
everything together. And in ancient armor, the belt wasn't just decorative.

(06:10):
It was essential for securing the rest of the armor
in place. And So for us, the belt of Truth
represents the truth of God's word. Where you know, we
live in a world where truth is constantly distorted, right
like social media and culture and even our own thoughts
can twist reality and make it hard to know what's real.

(06:31):
And the enemy loves to plant lies like you're you're
not good enough, you'll never measure up. You know, God
doesn't really care about you, You'll always be alone. All
those things, And the Belt of Truth helps us combat
those lies by grounding us in God's unchanging truth. So
here's my invitation for you, Like, what if you started

(06:52):
your day by meditating on truth from scripture? So, for example,
I am fearfully and wonderfully made from Psalm thirty nine fourteen,
or God's plans for me are good from Jeremiah twenty
nine to eleven. Like write it down, carry it with you,
and speak it over yourself when doubts creep in and again,
it's so important to find scripture that resonates with you,

(07:14):
but really find truth to combat those lies. Next is
the breast plate of righteousness. And the breastplate protects your
heart and the core of who you are. And righteousness
isn't about being perfect. It's about being in right standing
with God because of what Jesus did for us, and
we don't have to earn it. Right. And so for

(07:35):
years I carried so much shame and guilt about my past.
But wearing the breast plate of righteousness means I can
walk in the confidence that I'm covered by Jesus. That
means my past, my sins, my you know, the nature
of who I was. It's all covered. And it guards
my heart against the accusations of the enemy who love

(07:56):
to whisper like you like, look what you did, Look
who you are. You're still the same, Like you're just
you'll never change, You're too broken. Right, And so here's
my invitation to you, when guilt or shame shows up,
just remind yourself that your righteousness comes from Jesus and
from God and not from your performance and not it
doesn't have anything to do with your past. Right, and

(08:17):
say it out loud if you need to, that I
am forgiven and I am loved and God is I
have God's given righteousness.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Right.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
The next one is the shoes of the Gospel of Peace.
So the shoes keep you grounded and ready to move.
And so in the chaos of life, it's easy to
feel overwhelmed and anxious, and so the shoes of Peace
remind us that no matter what's happening around us, we
can stand firm because our peace comes from the Gospel,
which is literally called the Good News. Right. I love

(08:48):
that it's good news. And for me this was huge.
I used to think that peace was something I had
to find or create, but the Gospel teaches us that
peace isn't something that we manufacture. It's something that we
get directly from God. And it's a receivership, right. And
so here's my invitation. When anxiety strikes, pause and pray
and just ask, hey, God, fill me with your peace. Right.

(09:12):
Next is the shield of faith. So the shield is
your defense against you know, those fiery darts of the
enemy and those sneaky doubts and fears and accusations that
try to take you down. And faith doesn't mean having
all the answers. It means trusting God even when you
don't have the answers. And so when the enemy attacks

(09:33):
with lies, like you know, God isn't really with you
or you're not strong enough, the shield of faith lets
you block those darts and stand firm. And so here's
my invitation for you. You know, keep a list of
God's promises handy, and when doubt, our fear creeps in,
declare those promises over yourself, like God is for me

(09:55):
from Romans eight thirty one. That's a big one that
I always remind me. I'm like, God is for me.
This is the this is not from God. God is
for me. And I remind myself from Deuteronomy thirty one six,
I'm like, he will never leave me. He will never
There's nothing I can do that will make him leave me.
He will never leave me. Or from Philippians four thirteen,
probably one of the most famous scripture is I can

(10:15):
do all things through Christ. Notice it didn't say I
can do things all through myself and through self sufficiency. Right,
And so that's where I invite you to literally have
the truth in your back pocket when you need it.
Next is the helmet of salvation. And so the helmet
protects your mind where so many of our battles take
place or they start. And so the enemy loves to

(10:38):
attack our thoughts and plant seeds of negativity and fear
and insecurity and doubt and all the things. And so
the helmet of salvation reminds us of who we are
in Christ, and we are saved, and we are chosen,
and we are loved, and it helps us take those
negative thoughts captive and replace them with the truth of

(10:58):
salvation of our self. And so my invitation for you
is simply, you know, when a negative thought creeps in, like,
don't let it fester, immediately replace it with new truth
and something as simple as I am a child of
God and I am saved and I am secure in Him.
And I'll just add like that's all I need to know,
like the rest is none of my business. Like God

(11:19):
has me, I am safe and secure in him. Next
is the sword of the Spirit. So interestingly enough, this
is really the only offensive weapon in the armor, and
it's the word of God. And so when Jesus was
tempted in the wilderness, he didn't argue with the enemy
or try to reason with him. He fought back with scripture.

(11:41):
And so the same is true for us. When the
enemy comes at us, we can fight back with God's word.
And so my invitation for you is just you know, again,
it's all about resonance, So find ones that resonate. But
memorize a few key verses that speak directly to your
own struggles. So, for example, if is a battle for you,

(12:01):
you can memorize two Timothy one seven. For God has
not given us a spirit of fear, but of power
and love and a sound mind. And any anytime I'm fearful,
my husband literally quotes that that scripture for me and
helps me remind me of it. And again it's about
letting God's word be your antidote and medicine in those moments.

(12:24):
So now we know all about what the armor of
God is, but I'd love to just take a moment
to talk about how to actually put it on daily.
So the easiest way is just to start your day
in prayer and to begin each morning by intentionally praying
through each piece of armor. And so for example, like
just saying and praying, God, help me put on the
belt of truth so that I can stand firm in

(12:46):
who you say I am, and you know, equit me
with the breastplate of righteousness so that my heart is
guarded against guilt and shame. And you get the picture,
really going through and praying out through each piece of
the armor. Next is just to spend more time I'm
in the word, and I mean, this is something that
I'm constantly having to commit and recommit to. But the
more familiar you are with scripture, the easier it's going

(13:07):
to be to recognize the enemy's lies and stand on
God's truth. And it's really easy to recognize, like, because
the more you familiar you are with scripture, the more
you can realize what is not scripture, what is not truth, right,
And so even just five minutes a day making it
a priority. Next is just to reflect and recalibrate, and
so at the end of the day, you know, instead
of just ending your day with your phone or with TV,

(13:29):
Like what if you just reflected on where you felt
strong and then where you struggled and ask God to
reveal areas where you need to grow and to strengthen
you for the next day, but also invite them to
reveal to you like, hey, this is where I'm proud,
Like I'm gonna be proud of myself. I really stood
up here, I really felt strong in this area. Next
is to keep truth close. So, like I was saying,

(13:50):
write down verses that resonate with you and literally carry
them with you or have them on a noteesapp on
your phone and when you feel under attack, pull them
out and read them. This is one of those things
that when I can't sleep, I have certain scripture that
I go to that I just I like, cause again,
my mind will go to a different place if I
don't distract it, right, or if I don't point it
back in the right direction. So having those verses that

(14:13):
when you feel anxiety or stress or fear or worry
or whatever it is, pull them out and read them. Okay,
And then, of course I want to invite you to
stay connected and surround yourself with people who encourage and
challenge you in your walk with God. Right, not just
people that are like, oh yeah, whatever you do, I
love you and support you, like you want them to
love you and support you. But if something's going on,

(14:35):
like you also want people that you can trust that
will challenge you, and they'll do it in a loving
way to point you back in the direction of who
you want to be, right, And so a good community
can remind you to suit up in that armor when
you're going through challenges and rely on the armor of God,
not just again that self sufficiency. Okay. So I hope
this episode was helpful for you, and don't forget that. Yeah,

(14:57):
life is a battle, but you don't have to fight
it alone. And God has given you everything that you
need to stand firm and walk in victory. And like
we talked about already, the armor is already available and
so you don't have to earn it or be good
enough for it. It's a gift from God. But like
I said, I also truly believe it's our job to

(15:20):
put it on. He can't like, come put it on
for you. Right. God provides an armor, but he doesn't
force us to wear it. We have to choose to
equip ourselves. And you've got this and then you can
do it because He's got you. So thank you for
