This week, the courts delivered not one but two good stories. However, we know that Republicans will not stop fighting - and Democrats need to start giving some of that same energy to combat the GOP's 19th century vision for our future in which they have the power to control what we do with our own bodies.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Good morning, Peeve Sen. Welcome to ok F Daily with
me your girl Daniel Moody recording from the Home Bunker. Folks,
Oh my god, we have reached a fucking Friday where
I actually have two good pieces of news to discuss.
I don't know the last time when that happened, which

(00:34):
is so fucking sad, But I honestly was trying to
jog my memory as to the last time that I
got to an end of the week, and I was
just like, oh, there are good things to report, So
let us revel in this moment, Smoke them if you
got them, and raise a glass to a good end

(00:55):
of the week in this god forsaken country. So first
up to bat, I want to talk about the Supreme Court,
and for once I actually want to say something relatively good,
which is that the Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision
which they are never unanimous about a fucking thing, had
decided that the plaintiffs who brought a case against the

(01:21):
FDA on mifipristone, which had been approved by the FDA
roughly like twenty five or twenty six years ago, in
their remarks written by Brett Kavanaugh, said that they had
no standing to bring this case to try and overturn
the usage of MiFi pristone. Now, for those of you,

(01:43):
you know you listen to this show and you've heard
experts that have come on here to talk about abortion
access and the abortion pill. A MiFi pristone is readily used.
Most abortions in this country are medical abortions, meaning that
they are prescribe a pill like MiFi pristone and be

(02:05):
able to expel a pregnancy. And what this case had
the impact to do if, in fact they decided this
in the way that they decided Dobbs, which was not
only to impact Red states right that already have bands
right on MiFi pristone or what have you, but to

(02:29):
halt the usage of this in all states. This is
why I continue to say that this Republican cult, they
are absolutely unrelenting. Their goal is complete and total oppression
and subjugation of women, people of color, people with you

(02:49):
there says trans people, LGBTQ plus, people, people with disabilities
like you name it, They're coming for you. And what
this case is not that these people won't go back
to the drawing board, because they will. Right what Kavanaugh said,
wasn't that like we're not gonna decide this because we

(03:10):
think that it's ridiculous. They're basically giving them pointers like, well,
you don't really have standing, so maybe come back and
find somebody that does have standing and we can try
this whole rigamaroau again. What we have to understand is
that they never give up. They never give up. Fifty
fucking years they have been going after abortion and it

(03:34):
finally fell. So while yes, today I am going to
say absolutely celebrate this decision, we also know that this
is not the end. And I think that that is
what becomes so daunting is that they are like a
fucking dog with a bone. They will not give this

(03:56):
shit up until everyone has been a sign their proper
cloak from the Handmaid's Tail, that women only leave their
homes to like go to the grocery store or to
you know, in the case of Martha Alito, go buy
a fucking flag and hang it from their doorways. Like
they're not going to stop until they are able to

(04:19):
actualize their new vision, their nineteenth century vision of America.
But in this instance, today the Supreme Court, for the
first time, and I don't even know how fucking long,
actually did the right thing. What I will say because
I just want people to pause for a moment. We
are still waiting for the decision on whether or not

(04:42):
Donald Trump and all presidents apparently are immune from prosecution, right,
And you know, the cynical side of me, which is
pretty much I don't know, like ninety percent of me,
believes that this decision was a way to soften their striking,
fucking death blow to our constitution into our democracy. Because

(05:07):
let me tell you something, they decide on this case
that Donald Trump has absolute immunity and all presidents have
absolute immunity. Democracy is done. Because I don't care who
you are, right, the idea that you would be doing
this job or seek this job because you know you
have an agenda to pursue for Americans to make their

(05:29):
lives better or to do whatever. No, the presidency will
now become your personal fucking playground. If you're above the law,
I don't care. If you're the best fucking person, right,
you are going to do some unethical and illegal shit
because you know that you're not going to be prosecuted
for those crimes. So if the best of people would

(05:51):
do that, what do you think that the worst of
people will do? Well? We don't have to wonder because
that person is actually Donald Trump, who is just a
few weeks away from claiming the nomination of the Republican Party,
regardless of his thirty four fucking felonies. So it's so
deep that nine black robes that we did not fucking

(06:15):
elect right are going to make a decision that can
totally upend the founder's vision of America. Right now, let
me be clear, the founders were fucked up about a
whole host of things. It's why we have amendments. But
the idea that you would then turn around and say

(06:36):
that basically we're creating an American monarchy or oligarchy in
the case of the Trumps, and that he could now
literally just order Seal Team six to go and kill
Joe Biden and go off, you know, Obama, go lock
up Hillary Clinton and there would be no recourse for that. Yo.

(07:00):
That shit is wild. But this session is getting ready
to close. This session of the Supreme Court nightmare is
getting ready to close, and they have yet to decide
on this, and this is on their docket. So brace
yourselves because once they decide, guess what, we have no recourse.
There's no place to go. But down to help up

(07:26):
next again a bit of good news at least for
the moment, and because we don't know what is coming next,
I say that we relish in the good right. So
this comes from PBSS dot org, which is a federal
judge throughout a Florida law blocking treatment for transgender children.

(07:49):
So if you all remember last year, which I mean
to try and remember last year is a feed upon itself,
But if you remember last year, Governor Ron DeSantis passed
the law that would block gender firm and care for
transgender miners and severely restrict such treatment for adults. And

(08:12):
the treatment that we're talking about are the puberty blockers
for young people? And why are those puberty blockers necessary? Well,
because if you have the ability to transition before puberty strikes,
there's more like seamless integration and adaptation with the hormones

(08:38):
that you need to take right. And so it's really like,
just think about what it was like to go through
puberty yourself, now, think about doing that inside of a
body that you feel trapped in. I cannot, honestly and

(08:59):
I will ever understand, because I am sists like that
feeling and the fear that would go through you. That
would say that you would have to go through that
experience of puberty, and then on top of that be
denied the ability to basically transition fully in a way

(09:23):
that you want to live until what you're eighteen. But
then even then this decision would block such treatments for adults.
So in order for you, as a trans person to
live free and safe and whole, basically the state of

(09:44):
Florida said, deuces, get the fuck out of here, because
there's no way for you to do that. I guess
you could maybe have the money to be able to
travel to get said medication blah blah blah, but they
were extending this to online purchases of medication and the like,
basically making it impossible and or criminalizing trans people for

(10:07):
accessing the kind of healthcare that you need. Thankfully, Senior
Judge Robert Hinkel, who was hearing the case, blocked the measure,
and he said that the law went too far when
it barred transgender miners from being prescribed puberty blockers and
hormonal treatments with their parents' permission. Because here's the thing

(10:31):
with minors, like with anything, you need to have your parents' permission.
So Basically, what the State of Florida was saying is that,
like they know better than a parent. I'm a parent, right,
and my child is trans and wants to be able
to fully transition. I have worked through whatever difficulties I

(10:55):
may have in loving my child into the kind of
life that they need to be living and they want
to be living. We've reconciled whatever issues we may have
had as a family. But now big brother's going to
come in and tell you, no, you don't know what
you're doing, because that's what Ron DeSantis in the State

(11:17):
of Florida want to do. Right. It would be one
thing if they said that this was a case that
was saying, oh, well, parents haven't had the say so,
and so like that is problematic. That would be one
thing because they're minors and unfortunately, until you're eighteen, right,
your parents have the say so, whether they're good people

(11:39):
or not. But to go on and then say that
even for an adult, right, So basically what was done
here was not done so in the name of science,
in the name of health care, in terms of care
and treatment that has been researched and developed over decades,

(12:03):
this is not what this was about. And so This
was what Judge Hinkle said in a portion of his
one hundred and five page decision. Quote, some transgender opponents
invoke religion to support their position, just as some once
invoked religion to support their racism or misogyny. Transgender opponents are,

(12:28):
of course free to hold their beliefs, but they are
not free to discriminate against transgender individuals just for being transgender.
In time, discrimination against transgender individuals will diminish, just as
racism and misogyny have diminished. To paraphrase a civil rights

(12:53):
advocate from an earlier time, the arc of the moral
universe is long, but it been towards justice. And what
I think is so important about this statement, and the
only thing that I will push back on, is that
racism and misogyny have not diminished in this country. They

(13:15):
are actually moving full speed and throttle ahead. Right. It
was racism that had people out in the streets in
the summer of twenty twenty because of the public execution
of a black man by a police officer. Right. It
was the most historic march in the history of the
United States after the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Right,

(13:39):
that happened because of direct misogyny coming from the Supreme
Court of these United States and the entirety of the
Republican Party. Now you have Southern Baptists that are going
after IVF and other ways because these people say that

(14:00):
they are about family, but they want to control the
way in which you create a family, and if you
don't want one, they will force you to have one.
But if you have a family and you are a parent,
and you are a parent of a transgender child, then
they also want to tell you how to parent that child.

(14:22):
This has never been about medical care, it has never
been about safety and well being. It is only an
ever about control. And that is what people have to
understand here. Republicans don't give a fuck about anything other
than power and control. They want the power to be

(14:42):
able to control how people live, how people pray, if
and when and where they go to school. They want
the power to be able to fire people simply right
for being queer or being black, and disallow people the
opportunity to access some version of the American dream because

(15:04):
they happen to be trans. It is sick, it is twisted,
and this judge laid it out very clearly. There was
no medical basis for this law. This law was solely
about let me be the worst type of person so
that I can run for office. Because minds you that

(15:28):
the reason why Ron DeSantis picked a fight with Mickey
Mouse and then picked a fight with trans people was
so that he could look tough for the maga Republican base.
And then when that failed, you see that you don't
really hear from Ron DeSantis anymore with the same aggression,
in the same false bravado that he once had because

(15:52):
no one believed it. Hence his miserable ass campaign that
he was once the talk of the fucking town until
people started actually listening to him and realizing that he's
a bit of a fucking punk. Right, so, Ron DeSantis,
in order to look tough, needed to gang up on

(16:15):
some of the most marginalized people in this country, which
are trans people, which are particularly black trans women. Ron
DeSantis is nothing more than a fucking bully, and he's
not even good about it because he looks like a
little bitch when he's next to Donald Trump. And yeah,
I said little bitch, because that's exactly what he acts like.

(16:37):
Soon as he decided to end his campaign, he went
running to Donald Trump to go and kiss his ring
to go give him what was left of his spine.
But this is the type of person that wants to
bully children. Do you guys remember, Oh my god, do
you remember that press conference that he gave where kids

(17:00):
were on stage with their masks on, and he bullied
the white kids into taking their mask off, And there
was some black kids on the stage that were like, so,
no right and kept their masks on. That's who Ron
DeSantis is. We know that there will be appeals. Rond
de Santis has already said that this ruling was erroneous

(17:22):
and vowing to appeal it. And I'm sure that he will,
and I'm sure that the good people that were behind
building the case will not stop, will be unrelenting. But
I want to also read you this from one of
the people in the case who sued the state of Florida,

(17:45):
and this is Lucian Hamil, a transgender adult, and he
said this, I'm so relieved the court saw there is
no medical basis for this law. It was passed just
to target transgender people like me and trying to push
us out of the state of Florida. This is my home.
I've lived here my entire life. This is my son's home.

(18:07):
I can't just uproot my family and move across the country.
And you know, I will say that. I have said
on a number of occasions when I get fed up
with these red states, that like people should just leave
and move. And I've stopped saying that because one it's
just stupid to say, and two, it's a privileged place

(18:32):
to come from, because not everybody can just pick up
and move right have them resources to do that. And
two you shouldn't have to fucking do so. You should
be able to live in the state that you grew
up in, that you've called home and do so safely,

(18:56):
do so without a target on your back. But Ron
de Santis has made the state of Florida uninhabitable for
queer people, for black people, for LATINX people, for trans people.
He says that now this is the state of unwokeness.
It's the state of zero consciousness or empathy. Any of

(19:20):
the traits that you like want human beings to have
is absent under the leadership of Rondi Santis. And so
while today we celebrate absolutely these two decisions, we know
that they're never going to stop. And so this is
why I talk about rest. This is why I talk

(19:41):
about coming at these people from every single angle, because
that's what they are doing to us, and so there
is no time to rest on our laurels. This is
why we say that every election is in fact the
most fucking consequential election, because every election they move closer
you're and closer to their authoritarian regime. And we know

(20:03):
that the only thing standing between them and Project twenty
twenty five is us. And that is the thing that
we need to remember, no matter how exhausted, how angry
with Biden, we get. The only thing that is standing
between us and the nationalizing of an abortion ban and
a ban on IBP and a ban on books, and
a ban on trans people and a ban on affirmative

(20:25):
action and all of these things is us. Remember that.
