Speaker 1 (00:04):
Ah, We're back back in action season two, Off the
Edge with Me, your host Kim Jordan's Are we going live?
And I'm just happy to be here. I'm happy for
y'all to tune in. I can't say more than I'm
gonna have some friends tune in. I'm gonna have some
teammates pop in. I'm gonna have some stars from across
(00:27):
the league come right here on the pod with me,
your host, Caim Jordan, Off the Edge podcast, Let's Rock.
I'm bringing out Banger for the first one. I'm talking
about a guy who's been a constant pro, a man
who who stayed.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Sort of consistent in terms of his.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Favorite color's got to be black because he went from
black and silver to black and gold. I'm talking about
a four time pro bowler, the new face of the
New Orleans States franchise, the Derek Carr, the man who
holds all the records for all time passing yards and
touchdowns with a former franchise. And I hope that one
day we will say the same thing about them with
the black and gold, which that would be amazing because
that means we're gonna win multiple Super Bowls, and that's
(01:10):
what I'm here for the season of more My my
QB one Derek car what's shout my boy? But now
I see that, I see it.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Yeah, hey, hey, hey, I am honored, honored to be
off the edge with Cam Jordan.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
Are you kidding me? The fact that you invited a
quarterback on That's love, bro, Come.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
On, not not just that quarterback, my quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
You know what I'm saying, like this is we we've brown,
We've grown together over this last year. You know, like
you you sit four rows in the bus. I sit
three rolls. Is that how that works? I'm in the
third roll.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Of the bus.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
You're on the fourth row.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
Bus. We can go ahead and.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Head I'm the fourth seat every time, and we have
some great discussions.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Let me tell you.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Yeah, come on, We're on a bus and we talked
for you know, whether it's fifteen minute right, twenty minute ride,
forty five minute ride straight off the plane to the hotel,
it's it's us, right, bus bus number two. I probably
shouldn't tell locations, just in case, you know, they either
want to fan girl out or hate us from week
to week as the season will.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Go, no doubt, no doubt. Don't know exactly where I
start throwing at or giving us present.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Yeah, it's it's it's one way or the other.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
You know.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
The the level of love from NFL fans and or
cities is always it always accumulates and accumulates for good
or bad, you know this, man?
Speaker 4 (02:33):
That's all right, bro?
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Yeah, First and foremost, I just want to I just
want to know the real scoop of how we even
got you from you know, the Raiders to New Orleans,
because I know you had a multitude choices of land
like cities and teams of land to and then you
came to New Orleans. You brought the whole family down
with the like how did that? How that final decision go?
I've never I've never really asked, so I thought i'd
(02:55):
start that one out.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
Yeah. It was.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
It was a crazy time because like I just thought
I was gonna be a or forever and then all
of a sudden that changes and your mindset goes, well,
I still have a lot in me, you know, I
still have some good football left at me, and I
want to go, you know, show that somewhere. And so
I did my due diligence. Man, I talked to everybody.
There's some teams that people wouldn't even know I was
talking to, but we were trying to figure something out
(03:18):
and all this kind of stuff. But really what it
came down to, we were driving through New Orleans and
I'm not gonna lie it was it was you, Double
D and Tyron had all hit me up and we're like, look, bro,
let's just grow this thing together. Let's go make it happen.
You know, YadA YadA, YadA, all that kind of stuff.
And then it was y'all reaching out where I was like,
(03:39):
this is the right fit. You know, you said, you know,
face to the franchise and all that. But the thing
I loved to what y'all said and what we were
talking about is like, man, we just lead together.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
We're just trying to win, and that's all I cared about.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
You know, the records, the Pro Bowls, all that kind
of stuff has been awesome and I'm thankful.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
For all of it.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
But it's like we talked about last night at the
Captain's dinner. You know, that's not why we played this game.
We played a win, and we played a win championships
and to do that with y'all.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
You know, last season didn't start out how we wanted.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
But you know, coming in and finishing how we did
and all that kind of stuff, it just showed me that, man,
we're going the right way. We're headed in the right direction.
And it made that choice, you know, just you know,
with the relationships and all that that we have now
and all that kind of stuff, and just like they
put the you know, icing on the cake for me,
you know, just being there to be able to do
this with y'all.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
It came in like and you know, nobody cares if
you get hurt or not. Nobody cares about the pains
you go through through the season. You know, your first
season were you like broke Ribs had had a hurt arm,
I tore two ligaments in the leg. Nobody cares about that.
All they look about is like final stats. So like
you could have done more, absolutely, you know what, more
more given blood was spilled, but more can be given,
(04:48):
You're right, you know, So you got high hopes coming
into this year.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
You know, I definitely do. And I you know one
of the things that you know, you and I we
would laugh at each other, you know, we'd.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Come in on Monday, I'd be like how you feel
You'd be like how you feel, I probably the same.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
And it was it was it was rough, man, it
was tough.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
But at the end of the day, we would just
you know, we you know, we like we talked about
nobody cares, man, we just.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Got to you gotta go produce.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
And you know, I think last year was a cool year,
even though we had to go through so much because
like I had to reintroduce myself to a group of guys.
You know, I was so used to being in the
same building, you know, same same people around. But I
got to show, you know that I'll do anything for
you guys, you know, and you know I got to
learn that about you guys and my teammates and you know,
who you can go to war with and all that
kind of stuff. And you know I am, I am,
(05:37):
you know, cautiously optimistic. I'm trying to withhold my excit.
We thought it was so excited last year. I'm just
trying to bottle it in. But you know, we we
won nine games any and play well. Of course, I
am excited for what we can do this year. And
it starts, you know, on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Absolutely, I mean, let's just keep that excitement. How do
you feel about them, them Fresno State Bulldogs, you know,
just almost beat a you know, a Michigan team like
in an armor in unfamiliar territory. Like does that give
you hope or does that like take away from it,
like you'd be like, oh, we're right there, or does
(06:14):
that be like, ah, we got a long way to go.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
Well, it does give me hope, you know.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
You know, you watch the game, and obviously all of
us that look back at our own teams, we all
watch with a critical eye, and you're like, man, they
could do this, they could do that, you know, all
that kind of stuff. We all do that and and
so I understand that part. But it did give me hope.
But at the same time, I don't want us to
get used to, you know, being happy about, you know,
playing good teams close.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
You know, I want us to you know, Fresno.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
State, you know, growing up as a team that we
played anybody anywhere, anytime.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
Uh, and and we want to win those games.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
You know, We're not just there to be there and
collect a check, like we're we're here to ruin somebody's
season and win. And so hopefully hopefully they're not feeling
too good about it. You know, a loss is a loss,
and it's nice to see them be able to compete,
and I thought they played well. But you know, hopefully
we get back to that mindset that we want to
win these games.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
I mean, you know, clearly we're headed at the week one.
We gotta we gotta gotta preface this.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
How does a quarterback like you know, get ready for
the oncoming season, Like, there's there's a way that I
do it, Like I don't feel like I take about
two months off where I don't even think about being athletic,
Like I don't. I'm just eating. I'm a foodie. I'm
trying to like restore my soul. I'm trying to restore
my family bonds because I've been a probably a bad
(07:29):
dad and husband for the last like the for sure
the last like month and a half of football, if
not the entire season. And I'm just like, you know,
I'm trying to get back to the group of things.
And then like April, when the body starts feeling like,
oh okay, this is what healing is, like, this is
I should feel like this when I wake up. That's
when I start working out and like, you know, getting
back into shape and doing the right things. But when
(07:51):
do you when do you start up? What is an
off season for a quarterback like yourself?
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Look like?
Speaker 3 (07:55):
Yeah, so really this off season was I had to
get healthy, you know, I had to rehab, you know,
and so I didn't get to stay out here in
New Orleans and enjoy some of the fun stuff that
I was looking forward to enjoying because I had to
get ready for April. And and so man, I was rehab,
you know, training back in Vegas, just getting my body ready,
you know, to you know, go back to bout and
(08:17):
and so you know, for me, this year was a
lot of you know a lot of a physical grind,
and you know it was tough, but it had to
be done. But by the time I get you know,
a couple of weeks out of the season, I start
I start recovering.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
You know, for me, the.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Most important thing is that mentally, I get that rest
because there's so much film study again, like you said,
you know, being a dad again, being a husband again,
going on some dates, you know, making sure that the
family was good because you're about to sign right back up,
you know, for all of that all again. And so yeah,
for me, all of that stuff you know usually takes place,
(08:53):
you know, right then in those first couple of weeks
while I'm trying to get healthy, but then once it's
time to work, it's time to work again.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
So you don't gain like ten to fifteen pounds because
all you've been doing is is going to all you
can eat is in like late night food, the actions.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
No, okay, just got it.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
Definitely not definitely not got it?
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Got it? You know, well I got a vice here.
I got two vices. Food in the off season and
watches in my life. You know, like if I could
just get beyond that.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
And watches are nice, you know, like it's a.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Beauty, you know, to play this game.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
God, God, God gives us a lot, you know, gives
us talents to put on display ability to make a
nice life for the family, and you know, pick up
some nice things as we go along. Explain, hey, explain
this dog. Bro. You have multiple kids, and you decided
to add another responsibility, another form of responsibility.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Bro, So let me tell you about this.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
So he's been with us, this dude right here, he's
twelve years old, and he's.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
Doing he's still doing great.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
He's mad right now because my kid, it's got home
and they won't feed him yet, so he's barking at them.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
But he was our first kid.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Man, it was our first one when we were in college,
and so we got married, we got a dog, and
he's still going man, he's still going strong. But I
told I told my wife, I said, look like I
want to have kids, I don't want to.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
I don't want to have an animal. I don't want
to have a dog.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
But if you want a dog, you and the kids
got to take care of him because I just I
don't want to.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
And then sure enough, I end.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Up being the one, you know, walking in and playing
with it and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
So you see, you see her. He's laying laying, you know.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
He's mad at the kids, but he's going straight to
his boss. Were eating or.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Not about He's about to come nudge me right now.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
See before kids, what I don't want is another responsibility.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Like that's what I was like.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
You know, the kids want a dog, and I'm like,
you can get a dog when you go to your
house and then I'll come visit the dog. I'll play
with it, petty. And then I said it right back down.
I'm like, all right, that was enough. All right, ranger,
I'll see you.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
You know, like.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Exactly right.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
I'm with you, bro, You're not that dog has been
there for twelve years. He's not going anywhere, big fellow.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
He's not going anywhere.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
And I, like, my wife gets so mad all the time,
like when he barks someone like.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
You know, we just get him to my dad or
she's like stop, like he's not going.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Not going anywhere. Stay tuned, We'll be right back.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Let's talk about you know what was clearly in front
of us, the low hanging fruit. If you will, super
Bowl fifty nine in New Orleans in your mind, how
do we get there?
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Our mind is got we gotta play fast from the start,
you know, it's got to be you know, weak, you
know whatever. I don't even remember how many weeks we
play in the NFL now, you know, he used to
be an easy number to count.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
Now where to keep adding games?
Speaker 3 (11:46):
But you know, I think the last half of the year,
we were treating those games like they were do or die.
You know, I feel like they were all playoff games
to us. And I saw our team unity come together.
I saw us people sacrifice some time, all that kind
of stuff all throughout the building to do whatever it
takes to win. We got to treat week one, you know,
like it is do or die.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
You know. I learned that from talking to Peyton Manning.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
You know, He's like, does the does the Newton kickoff
against you know, Carolina feel like the last game of
the year. You got to win to get in, you know,
does does it feel like that kind of atmosphere in
the building? And and I think that we got to,
you know, you know, make it feel that way, you know,
as leaders, you know, and I think that if we
come in like that, you know, the city, the city
(12:31):
will respond, you know. And and then and then the
super Domes are really really tough place to play. And
you know, it's always been one of my favorite places
to play. It's always been the hardest place to come
you know, here in Kansas City are the two hardest places,
in my opinion, to come in and win a football game.
And and if we play well from the jump, we'll
have that with us all year. And I think that, uh,
(12:51):
we just got to pick up right where we left
off from last season. You know, I stayed on my
film study throughout the off season. I stayed on I
wanted to stay in that rhythm that we were in, uh,
you know, you know that we were in in that
last half of the year, and so I think that
if we can do that, uh and come out fast,
come out the gates fast, and uh, you know, play
well and when early, you know, hopefully you know, that
(13:12):
will catapult us and get our belief and all of
that kind of stuff from the beginning.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
You talked about, especially with the added coaches edition, you know,
you you add in Clint Kobias offense and what he brings,
and that that has to play a part in it
as well, right.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Yes, yeah, absolutely, I mean you I mean you you've
been going against us, and you know, it's just a
different style. It's just different, you know. And that's the
best way that I can say it without giving away
too much.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
It's just it's different like New Orleans, you know.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
So you know, Saints fans are gonna they're gonna see
something different, and I think that they're going to like it,
you know, uh, and hopefully you know, you know, with
game reps, we get better and better at it as
the season goes on.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
But I think that we'll be ready to go week
one as well.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Yeah, I mean, they they sort of saw it well
a little bit of what what could be. You know,
over the preseason games you feel like you had you
saw you saw some glimpses, like you didn't catch it
clearly as preseason you didn't catch the playbook, but you
god enough where it's you know a lot of a
lot of tight end movement, a lot of wide receiver
movement like the Clink Kubiak offensive full effect, and I'm like,
(14:18):
there's potential, you know, like I see what you did there?
Speaker 4 (14:23):
See what you did there?
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Yeah, absolutely absolutely, And you know preseason is like you know,
the day one type stuff. You know, so he we're
moving and we're doing super vanilla and so you know,
these guys have had time to game plan and put
some together and you know, just make it hard on defenses.
You know, this game is hard enough when you just
you know line up and say here we are, you know,
let's play football. You know there's got to be you know,
(14:47):
some some difficulties that you're going to make for the defense.
And I think that Clinton and his staff do a
fantastic job of that to help put us as players
in good positions to make plays.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Yeah. I mean, for for sure that like That's that's
why I try and tell people. I'm like, I'm excited
because I was like, we're going to super Bowl. W.
You know, W says, He's like it probably every other
sentence is like we're going to the super Bowl. Like
there's such a firm belief and like you're such a competitor.
You're like, bro, I just want to win. I'm like
just saying DC. You just say New Orleans and the
super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
I need like like you're like, yeah, we're gonna We're
trying to win every game. We need it.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
I'm like, I'm just.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
You know me, you know me, I'm so politically correct,
but you know me in the locker room too, and
you know exactly.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
That's what I'm saying. So you're so PC you won't
say it.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
I'm like, I'm just saying.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
I'm like, you believe, but you won't say it. I'm like,
it's crazy. Nobody gets baptized and he says and doesn't say,
I don't believe. Jesus like you like you're like, oh,
you're baptized.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
I believe it.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
Just thank you Lord for everything you've done. You're like, yeah,
I believe we're gonna win this game. We can win
every game in front of us. Get us there, like,
just just say it speaking to existence. You know me,
I'm clearly a rebel. I don't I don't care much.
I'm like, this is what I want and I want
to get it somehow somehow.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
That's why we work really well together because everything I'm thinking,
I just like, I just.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
Let you say it between between me and me and
Foster Moreau pretty much well spoken for.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
Yeah, that's right, right, b uh.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
I just remember from uh in in in training camp
in California, uh DA, Dennis Allen are our head coach,
put up all those rankings of players, and now everybody
was like, Cam, they don't even have you ranked, you
know whatever, w is the only one that's in the
top three in his position, you know, DC.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Whatever it was they I don't even remember what it was.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
It was like, you're in the bottom half of the
league versus tire Matthew right in the middle of safety.
And I'm like, bro, like so it's you know, the
world looks down on us, and that's fine, but I
don't care about what people say because in my mind
I'm certified, Like you got to come see my hands
regardless before a quarterback, and I know quarterbacks, you know,
like you guys have like a little more of a
(16:49):
capability to wear your emotions on your sleeves. Does that
affect you at all that, you know, the fifty NFL
coaches or whatever had you in that bottom half of
tier of the of the NFL league, which your one,
tier two, two, three, tier four, they have you at
that three? Does that bother you at all?
Speaker 3 (17:04):
You know, There's been so many different seasons where I've
been in so many different tiers and and you know,
I every time, you know, early on when I was young,
I was like, man, I'm trying to do everything right.
So then I have a really good season, they got
you in the top tier, and he's the next one,
and then we don't win as much the next year,
and then you're in the third tier and then you
(17:25):
come back it's two and it's like, you know, for me,
it's all about this process and I know what I'm
capable of, and as a competitor, when my back's against
the wall, I'm just going to fight. And I feel
like that is the case for our team right now, that, yeah,
our back is against the wall. So how are we
going to respond because the beautiful thing about football is
you get to go put the ball down again, and
(17:46):
so you know this season we get to go put
the ball down again and Cam gets to rush, you know,
Tyring gets to play safety. You know, they didn't have
any of our DB's, Marshaun, Debo, Tay, all these dudes
that like no one's on the list, like they you know,
they say this and then like who are we listening to?
Speaker 4 (18:02):
Though? You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Like when I when I'm in the locker room and
I you know, I'm talking to you know, Olive and
she I'm talking to you or double D. Man, I
know what I'm capable of. You I know what you're
capable of. And the way we feed off each other, man,
it's like, who are we really going to listen to?
And if we listen to each other in the locker room,
which is as I've gotten older, that's those are the
voices that really matter. You know, if you got the
(18:23):
respect to your teammates, you know, if they think of
you in such a way and they believe that you
can go win with them, just like I believe in
y'all and y'all believe in me, Like the way we
have belief in each other. I think that's what really matters.
And so when I was younger, it was harder because
it was so up and down all the time, like
week to week too. And and as I've gotten older,
I've understood just how it goes. And so the beautiful
(18:45):
thing is we get to put the ball down, man
and get to go play. And I can't wait to
put that on display.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
So you're saying, yes, it affected you a little bit.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
I was pissed. I was pissed. There we go.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
I'm like, like, is now that I know you, I'm like,
I'm like, bro, you're gonna stick to your PC. But
it's all right, Bro, I understand. I'm gonna say it
for you. I was pis for you. I was like,
you really got my dog messed up?
Speaker 4 (19:12):
That's right. Play.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
Yeah. They're like, Cam, you weren't on the list. I
was like, they still got to see my hands, Bro, Like,
what list do I care about? I've been I've been
as high as PFF number one and as low as
whatever it is now like between the highs and lows,
guess what you have to do? Line up across me
and come see me. Show show it. He eventually you
got to show me from training camp.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Give me. I'm not gonna say favorite, give me.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
Give me a wide receiver that you think is going
to have a breakout year, because you can already you
can already talk about Rashid, you can always already talk
about olive wide receiver that people may not know about,
that it's going to have a breakout year.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
You know, I'm really impressed by Cedric Wilson. You know,
he does all the dirty work. He makes all the
tough catches, you know, like in traffic like this offense,
there's there's some tight window throws, and he's a guy
that consistently in those tight windows. He's a guy that
will put his head in there and make the catch
and get hit and he doesn't care, you know, and
he'll do it again the next day. And then with
that he does a lot of blocking. He does a
(20:13):
lot of stuff. And I think that all of the
receivers has have fed off him. I think twelve has
become a good blocker in this system. Like it takes
a learning curve to learn the system. I think watching
said do it because he was in the system a
little bit.
Speaker 4 (20:25):
I think I think.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Twelve has gotten really good at it. I think Sheet
is getting better at it. I think I think all
of these guys are feeding off of him, and so
that shows me not only do I see the talent,
but he's helping others be better around him. And so
I've been really impressed with Cedric Wilson. I got to
give him his credit. And he's a worker, you know,
and I love, Hey, let me get this right after practice,
let me get this, let me get that. And we're
(20:47):
we're always working, and you know, I feel like I
can you know, I can always go out and compete
with someone like that. You know that you can always
count on someone to compete with you. And he's that guy.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
I say, I'm not gonna lie. He took me by some.
We had some we had some dogs show up at
training camp. I think there was there was an at
catch like that somewhere in training camp where he went
over the top of I don't even remember. I just
remember him going about four and a half feet five
feet in the air. I said, oh, I said, there
he go.
Speaker 4 (21:16):
Oh bro yes eight.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
His release path, like the way he gets off the
line at that size is crazy, you know.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
And the way he makes plays.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
And I told him, I said, look, bro, if a
good corners covering you and I throw you a jump
ball one on one, that tells you I trust you
more than maybe I trust my dog, you know, like,
And he did that for me. And so yeah, I
mean there was a few guys out there just going nuts.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
So I mean, no doubt there's a few that here
keep secrets.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
But you know, absolutely, yeah, I'm gonna keep Lance Moore
Junior a secret for now, but uh absolutely, But when
it comes down to it, I know we talked about rankings,
but you know, what what do you think about?
Speaker 1 (21:59):
I was looking like the the you know, the next wave.
These young young guys get paid. Josh Allen over in
jack Jacksonville got paid a position.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Like every time they reset the market.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
I was like, oh, get it, young young gun, Like
I wish they would let me reset the market. But like,
just just this idea like this the quarterbackback I don't
even know how much more aggressive egregious the quarterback cap
situation is going to get like they you clearly need
your own cap. But guys like you know, Joey Burrow
got paid, Trevor Lawrence got paid, Tua got paid, Jordan
(22:32):
Love got paid, Jared GoF like Jared Go got re extended,
and they're the tunes of you know, fifty and fifty
something million year fifty five, Like it's what do you
think about the young qbs? Like I'm interested to see,
like where do you think it'll go? Do you think
there should be a quarterback salary cap part or to it?
Because I mean's getting ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
Yeah, you know, I would say, you know when I
was when I was younger, it was just a sign
of respect, Like you just want to be paid up
there with those guys, like you want to be one
of those guys.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
You know, you want to be the highest paid.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
And and so when you're in that mode like and
you deserve it. It's your first time getting paid like that,
you deserve it, and you know you earn it. Get
get get every dollar you can get because you know,
as soon as you can't do anymore, they're not gonna
give it to you, you know, so you might as
well take it while you can.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
And I'm all for that.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
And as I've gotten older, I've just gotten into the
mindset of just like, am I really gonna fight for
every dollar? Do I want to just be able to
help everyone around me. And I think that as all
quarterbacks get older, they get into that mode, you know,
because like, man, I just want to win, and so
you know, I got enough to take care of my
family and help people all around the world and you know,
do things that I still want to do and for
(23:47):
the rest of my life and my kids life. But
you know, for me, like, I think that at some point,
they're gonna have to just make it like, Okay, you
can pay your quarterback this much if you want to,
and if you know, if not that, here's the cap
for everybody else. Like it's almost like a franchise type
player where it's a you know, four or five year
deal that pay this.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
And then you can pay the rest. You know.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
I don't know how owners feel about that, but with
where this money is going and with the new TV
deals and the streaming and all this kind of stuff,
I mean, it's just going to get outrageous. It's gonna
I think it's gonna at some point it's going to
be double what it is now and it's just going
to keep going up. And you know, guys are trying
to get creative. You know, I thought I was getting
creative like getting no trade clauses and all that kind
(24:30):
of stuff. Well, guys are getting creative with how they're
getting paid, when they're getting paid, all this kind of stuff,
you know.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
So it'll be interesting to see where it ends up.
But I know it's not going to go backwards, that's
for sure.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
So we agree that that quarterbacks should have their own
separate cap, like they they shouldn't affect everybody. Was like, hey,
because you know, every team once when it's time to
pay somebody, they're like, no, we ain't got it because
we just spent you know, forty on a quarterback or
fifty on a quarterback or whatever the highest paid quarterback
is right now, fifty fifty five out a quarterback. But
I'm like you, in my mind, I've got I've got
(25:03):
theories the cap doesn't really exist. I've seen teams be
one hundred million over and be like, oh, we got
to clear this cat space, and then within the month
they're like they have a major signing and they extend
like a player or two, and I'm like, yo, I'm
I was like, what did I miss? If you were
one hundred over, how did we get here? You signed
them with somebody to one hundred dollar contract. You've signed,
You've extended one of your core guys, you know, for
(25:25):
a four year deal at you know whatever it is,
fifteen or sixteen a clip And they're like, like, so,
don't tell me you don't have it, Just tell me
you don't.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
Want to get me, no doubt. Yeah, I learned that.
I learned that real quick. Man.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
As you keep going to this league, you learn about
it. It's like cash is king. If you got cash, you
can that salary cap is non existent.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
No, man, they just won't come out and say it.
I'm just like, Yo, how do we how are we
doing this? Who?
Speaker 4 (25:51):
Like?
Speaker 1 (25:51):
You know, you see Jacksonville, Jacksonville gonna sign a big
name every off season. And I've been trying to figure
this out for the last ten years.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Something. They paid this, this, this paid, they just paid.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
I'm not counting pockets, but I'm just like, how do
they keep paying everybody?
Speaker 4 (26:05):
Oh again, I look again.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Yeah, if you got cash, man, you could you can
hide a lot of problems, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
But anyways, I'm gonna say I'm gonna say for you,
Derek Carr is taking us to the Super Bowl fifty
nine in New Orleans, and we're gonna ride out on
on on parades that week and then the week after
for Marti Gras, and we're gonna probably rename a float
afloat in your honor.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
And we're gonna go on from there, you.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Know, like, and then we'll talk. We'll talk about the
next one. How do we stack two? We gotta start
with one? Uh?
Speaker 2 (26:36):
All right, let's let's let's finish for this.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
Uh, the quick hitters, which I haven't put a title
on this situation, the situation yet, I feel like the
middle push because you know now I'm a de tackle
on third downs. I feel like the middle push is appropriate.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
Gonna play the nose, man's playing.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
The nose, Oh, no doubt, no doubt. Then'll then it'll
be the final push. If you see me at the nose.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
DC the final the final.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
All right.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
If you were starting to franchise, which quarterback would you.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
Pick to lead it?
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Oh? Besides myself, I'd picked Pat Mahon.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
You're you're the You're you're the you're the GM. So
you can't you can't pick yourself, all right? Just describe
your playing style in one.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
Word, shredder, because that's what tell me. That's what Gooden
used to tell me. Every day is a freaking shred.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
What's your must listen to pregame song on your play
playlist right now?
Speaker 3 (27:40):
Oh, Man of your Word, Man of your Word, that's
the one. Yeah, I got it right here, Man of
your Word by Maverick City.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
I like that one.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
Mm hmmm.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
I'm a counter that with uh Sunday Service choir Bombs
of Gilead whatever that as a church song gets me going, uh,
but I love it. I love it? And uh. Then
then my own true or false? You do you wear eyeliner?
True or false? False?
Speaker 4 (28:12):
You have seen I've seen it daily.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
You've seen me on a daily basis and I have
yet to put any on so false.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
None, And I've and I've met the parents and I
was like, where does like, I'm just confused on how
is it me? I was like, everybody sees this right?
Speaker 3 (28:28):
And you did tell my parents too, you hold them
that training cap.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
You're like, I'm confused.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Look looked at moms. I was like, okay, that where
these eyes come from.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
Guys. I'm looking at David. I'm looking at Derek. I'm
looking at David.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
I'm looking at Derek.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
I'm like, I see why you're brothers, but nobody has
his Okay, this is my quarterback.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
Yep, that's right. Different. Different, Yeah, that's right, you.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
Know, different because we gonna do different type things. We're
going to sup Bowl this year. I'm'na keep saying that,
even though you know eventually you're gonna just be like,
you know, a week seven, when we're sitting at at whatever,
we're saying that, You're like, it's official, we're going to
Super Bowl, and I'm gonna look at you and.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
Like I told you should have told you should have
said a week one.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
I said, I'm just letting you say it all for
me now so that I can just double back on
it at the end.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Boom, Well, appreciate you my boyfriend tapping in with Off
the Edge, you know the pod.
Speaker 2 (29:24):

Speaker 1 (29:27):
Winning all the games this year, every last one of them.
I don't know, like seventeen and oh twenty one and
oh whatever whatever. That takes hell. As long as it
leads to success, that's what I hope for both of us.
Thank you for tuning in with me, Bro. I'll see

Speaker 3 (29:44):
Yeah, I'll say it work, bro, But thank you, Bro,
appreciate you anything for Cam Jordan man edge.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
Coming up after this break. It's a rifted off, you know,
the final push if you will. I got some things
to get off my chest. It is what it is.
I mean, final points here. Just want to put out
here right while we're in headed into my Week one
(30:12):
just no Week one from college football just happened. And
I'm not not gonna talk about this because my col
bears are one in zero. I don't know what it
feels like not to be you know, one in zero
as a as a calilum because we're I don't have
to worry about that. Think about this. We beat UC Davis.
Now we got Auburn right, and Auburn ran you know
(30:34):
they ran out there with the w last year. I
feel like we're poised here.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
To go on a run.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
So I just want to say shout out to cal
going you know, one to zero, and then we're gonna
go just talk about I just want to talk about
some things right, U of A has a real challenge
this this this upcoming week.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
My man.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
You know, wide receiver went had ten catches, three hundred
and four yards, four touchdowns. There was guys going absolutely federal,
and it's not being talked about enough. You know, we're
hyped up on Travis because he's a dog. But there's dog,
there's guys out there going crazy. Jay Not's one of those.
Y'all needed to put an eye on him. Jay Not
running back at the University of California, Berkeley. I'm saying
he could be special. Now for college football, let's get
(31:14):
