Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio good Morning Football.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Hey, everybody, welcome inside our show. It's called Good Morning Football.
We're live as always in Los Angeles. This is akbar
bos B and Milla. That's Peter Schreger, that's Kyle Brent.
We are presented by our favorite meet in the Bag,
Old Trapper, beef Jerky.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
I'm still going to run that by.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
I should call corporate, I should call Old Trap our
friends at Old Trapper is it?
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Are you cool with me saying meet in the bag?
That's a great description of it.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Well, salt me. It's great protein. I know Kyle's big
Old Trapper fan.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
Yeah, and not a huge meet in a bag fan.
Speaker 5 (00:53):
I just it's not I don't think it's the most
appetizing way to say it. I remember, And there's something
about Mary nineteen ninety eight. Ben Still There has a
conversation with Cameron Diaz about you don't see a lot
of meats in a cone, and that's says I meet
in a cone. And I think this is the line
deliberately written because it sounds gross. Old Trapper is a
beautiful product that I think just deserves better than meeting
the bag.
Speaker 6 (01:12):
Can we shout out Dennis the kabab guy though, because
he'll be working on He's in the parking lot every
the e lot at the Jets MetLife Stadium every week.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Dennis the kabob Guy. I'd love to try one there.
Speaker 7 (01:25):
That would be nice, not to.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Be computable owl off the hot dish vendor at a
Vikings game. That happens too, and we're working a lot
of Minnesota. Speaking of the Vikings, their quarterback Sam Darnold
has led them to a surprising two and oh start,
with big wins against the Giants and the forty nine
ers and their head coach Kevin O'Connell. He had some
high praise thus far for his starting quarterback.
Speaker 8 (01:52):
The amount of work that goes into that position on
your quarterback journey, when everybody decides that you cannot play.
We always believed in them, and uh, well, awesome to
watch him go do that thing. So I'm really proud
of Sam Darnold, as.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
You should be. Derek Carr's got to be pretty proud
of himself. The way the Saints have started out.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
The quarterback has ignited the Saints offense that has put
up ninety one points in their first two wins, first
against the Panthers, second against the Cowboys's kind of a
cool parallel because you're thinking Giants Panthers for Viking Saint
sweet Wine, eh, but to beat up on the forty
nine Ers and the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Now we're really looking at these two teams.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
So the thirty three year old veteran that's Car ranks
first in the league with one hundred and forty two
plus passer rating and sits second amongst all quarterbacks with
nearly seventy seven completion percentage. It's a lot of numbers,
but the point is it's been pretty impressive for.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Derek Car to start.
Speaker 9 (02:47):
It's time for.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Rowdown Thursday, second hour on a Thursday here on GMFB.
There's some robots punching each other and then oh well, bamble,
somebody falls down. All right, cooler story two weeks into
the season. Guys, is it Sam Darnald Peter or is
it Derek Carr?
Speaker 4 (03:03):
Look? I love both these stores. I think that Derek
Carr story might be a.
Speaker 6 (03:06):
Little cooler though, because I think a lot of people
wrote off his entire team. No one talked about the
Saints all summer, everyone talked about the Falcons got so
hot and they're the team because of who they brought in,
and the Saints were kind of like left for dead
and here we are. They're the best offense in football ninety.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
One points through two weeks.
Speaker 6 (03:22):
And the Derek Carr story specifically, it was like, are
they eventually gonna move on from Derek Cark. No, they
actually gave him more guaranteed money this offseason.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
They doubled down on Derek Carr.
Speaker 6 (03:30):
And I want to shout out our producer here in
New York, a'man and because he brought me some really interesting,
I don't know, geopolitical news based on Derek Carr.
Speaker 9 (03:39):
Yeah, we're going to go there.
Speaker 10 (03:41):
Sports.
Speaker 6 (03:41):
Yeah, no, we're not sticking of sports. MSNBC, Fox News
take note on this. Okay, it's his courtesy of the
Titoker Finesse West.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
So we're also hitting that quadrant of the next generation.
Speaker 6 (03:52):
Derek Carr and his career has put up his best
numbers during election years.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
Let's go back to twenty sixteen with the Raiders.
Speaker 6 (04:00):
Car had twenty eight touchdowns and six interceptions.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Three down years.
Speaker 6 (04:04):
Then twenty twenty with the Raiders twenty seven touchdowns, nine interceptions,
and he had a quarterback career rating.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
That was as high as it got.
Speaker 6 (04:12):
And now another election year, twenty twenty four, Derek Carr
has put up ninety one points for the Saints and
they are the most high flying offense in football.
Speaker 10 (04:22):
Now.
Speaker 6 (04:22):
I don't know much about the election. I don't know
much about politics. Certainly aren't gonna hear my thoughts right
here on this stage. But I do know this, every
four years, Derek Carr is the man, and I'm going
with him as my better story this week.
Speaker 7 (04:35):
I love it. I love the political tie in. That
was pretty cool.
Speaker 9 (04:38):
That was saying he danced around it.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Actually, I'm not talking fracking.
Speaker 7 (04:44):
I promise you that. No, yeah, no fracking, no prac.
Speaker 11 (04:48):
But I will tell you who is definitely drilling it
down right now. To me, it's Sam Dice, Sam Darnell.
To me, the story is so cool because you think
about it, this dude was left as and seen as
a pariah. I mean, and why because he couldn't win
with the Jets when he was there with his best
wide receiver back then was Braxton Barrios. I mean, like,
(05:09):
what was he supposed to do? I mean, if you
look at the lineup of what he had, he had
guys like Robbie Anderson. Of course, now Robbie chosen. He
had Jermaine Kurrs, Like, who were the guys he were
throwing to. Now you put him in a situation where
he can do things like that right there, throwing to
Justin Jefferson. He has an offensive line that can throw
from him, like, we're getting to see the real Sam Donald.
(05:32):
Will the real Sam Donald please stand up? And we're
seeing him and going like, I like this dude. Whereas
on the other side, you know, yes, there were some
struggles with Derek Carr, but he had some pretty decent teams.
He had some pretty decent guys. Things didn't turn around.
He had some guys and we said during the political
years and all that stuff, you know, he had some upticks,
but at least he had somebody to throw it to.
(05:53):
At least he had a line that could CAUSI protect
for him.
Speaker 7 (05:56):
He didn't have that. Sam Donald didn't have that. So
I think he's the cooler store like man. I like
this guy, Sam Donald.
Speaker 11 (06:02):
He's the man We're gonna see two and oh, okay,
you know it's.
Speaker 9 (06:06):
Not a huge compliment to Derek Carry. He's really gonna
be four. Yeah, it's a long time, but I listen.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
I think it's Sam Donald because since Sam Donald entered
the league, all I have ever heard every single coach
loves them. You need anybody he's played with and Shanahan back,
Todd Bowles is a rookie now, it's like they're all like,
Sam's demand, Sam's deman. Jordan Palmer is always out there
saying Sam Donald's demand, Sam Donald's the man, and then
he goes out there, doesn't doesn't like play very well.
Speaker 9 (06:35):
You're like, you, guys, what the heck.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
It's like, it's like this movie that all the critics love,
but then you watch it, you're like, what the hell?
This is boring and slog It's like it's Sam Donald's
the English Patient, Like it's supposed to be the greatest
movie ever, and yet when.
Speaker 9 (06:48):
You finally turn it on this year, you're.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
Like, Okay, Juliette, but no shit, doing something here right?
Speaker 9 (06:54):
Finds can cook? I actually why not?
Speaker 5 (06:58):
Kristen Scott Thomas on Fuego, it's actually pretty cold. Maybe
the critics are right, and maybe he does that to
do with the supporting cast. There's been so many apologists
for Sam Donald for years because the fans are like,
I kind of we're over it. He doesn't play well,
and the coaches are like, we insist he's the man. Guys,
he's too and O he looks fantastic. I think it's
a really improbable, cool story. Derek Carr, We've had him
(07:20):
for years and years.
Speaker 9 (07:20):
He is what he is. He is what he isn't
it's Sam Donald for sure?
Speaker 2 (07:23):
For me, I'm still mind blown that Peter is referencing
TikTokers in his take. And to bring a full circle,
you mentioned Braxton Barios dating one of the most famous
TikTokers right now, so we're just coming Alex Alex Earl.
Speaker 9 (07:35):
Here we go, there's a shock, let's go.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
It's been a challenging week for the Titans a couple weeks. Actually,
their quarterback Will Levis. First his shovel pass which led
to an interception on Sunday. Then get this, his phone
number gets leaked via social media and now fans and
people have access to it.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
And I don't think they're calling with praise. Take a listen.
Speaker 10 (08:00):
Thing I'm actually doing today.
Speaker 12 (08:01):
I get a new phone number, I don't know how
my number got out there to the fans, but I
got kind a lot of texts, so that'll be nice
to shut that part of the life behind me.
Speaker 10 (08:09):
And I have an open social.
Speaker 12 (08:10):
In the last couple of weeks, so uh yeah, I
just think that's the healthiest way to go about it.
And they don't want to or care to see any
things that people say about me, and I'm just gonna
keep chugging along regardless of what they say. So yeah,
but it sucks that the world is the way that
it is, and looking forward to having some privacy.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
First of all, we'll love us. That does suck. I'm
sorry that your phone number got it does It's terrible
story it is. It's brutal. He's getting a new one, though,
and you can you can.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Be more selective about who gets your phone number and
who gets to contact you.
Speaker 11 (08:43):
Is it bad if I'm just a little curious as
to what they were sending him, I'm just I think you.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Can imagine by his body language in his tone, you
can yeah, you can probably imagine if it was like
all love and praise to be like, keep it coming.
I'm not going to change my number, all right, But
that's a very cleansing thing to do. Now he gets
to just decide mom, dad, significant other. You're the only people, coach,
the only people that get my phone. It's a very
purifying behavior, if you will. I kind of let us
down the path for the second topic for Thrownout Thursday,
(09:10):
there are people that engage in a twenty four hour fast,
no water and no food. You're resetting the system. Is
that the more purifying behavior? Or is it to fully
log off social media for an extended period of time?
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Peter? Where do you go?
Speaker 6 (09:26):
All right, I'm going to break the fourth wall bring
into my life here. And I know we have an
entire social media department that is that is awesome and
they are great and they drive traffic to our show.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
But I got hacked this summer and.
Speaker 6 (09:39):
At my Twitter they were selling MacBook pros from my
It was horrifying, it was. But because of that, I
couldn't log back in for the entire month of July
up until training camp.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
It was the greatest thing in the world.
Speaker 6 (09:51):
I didn't have to see any of your political thoughts.
I'd'd have to hear any of your thoughts on the
Bear season three. I was just in my own world.
I actually got to meet my family for the first time.
It was wonderful. It was one wonderful to not have
to check that phone all day. So I'm gonna say this,
there is a use and there is definitely some positives
to social media. I wouldn't know who Alex Earl is
(10:14):
if I wasn't on social.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
Media, but I will tell you this, it's.
Speaker 6 (10:18):
Actually pretty nice to take a break from it as well.
Now let's get back to our phones and stare at
them all day long, because that's what we do in
our professions.
Speaker 11 (10:25):
Oh my goodness, I absolutely love it, you know what.
I'm right there with you. I agree. I believe that
logging off of social media it's like turning off your airplane,
your airplane mode when you're in the plane. It's like
cutting off your mind to the outside world. The higher
you climb, the higher you fly, Why, because you get
to really be more in tune with yourself. Now, I
(10:47):
think there's some benefits to doing the fast, the twenty
four hour fast, but the next day you eating it
right again, I'm whatever the burger or whatever it is
that you're eating. So I'm going to go with the
social media logging off that stuff is toxic, it's poison,
or as Jarvis Langery would say, it's contagious, contagious broth.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
Wh nice callback to Jarvis Landry's I remember that in
the two thousands, people were doing this lemon and cayenne pepper.
Speaker 9 (11:13):
And molasses fast. I did that for like twelve days.
Terrible and at the end you chug saltwater and you
won't believe what that does to your body. It's like
you have a jet pack on. It's nuts.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
I did that before. It's absolutely terrible. I have to
tell you, guy, I don't even know if you know this.
I've started a new practice over the last couple of months.
Every single Friday, I literally delete Instagram from my phone.
I delete it and then I bring it back on
Sunday morning. Yeah, because it's got its clause in me.
Speaker 9 (11:40):
It's this little thing.
Speaker 5 (11:42):
If I go on, Instagram has curated every single thing
that I like to look at in my life, and it.
Speaker 9 (11:48):
Just has endless videos of it.
Speaker 5 (11:50):
So it's like, oh my god, there's my favorite band,
and there's my favorite athlete, and there's my favorite model,
and there's it's like whoever, it's just there. How am
I supposed to look away from that. I can't do it,
So I on Friday after the show delete the app,
and then when I sit down to watch games on Sunday,
I reinstall the app and seazy, it's all your log
and stuff and all your studings are already there every
(12:12):
single weekend because I'm sitting there and I'm sitting on
the couch and my beautiful children.
Speaker 9 (12:17):
Are walking up to me like like, Oliver.
Speaker 5 (12:19):
Twist, please, father, please play with us, and I'm like,
hold on a second, I'm watching Metallica in nineteen ninety
one on the Black Album Tour. Just just go play
with yourself. It's pathetic and I'm shamed and I'm a
fiend Clorette highlights. I have no watch so I was
amazing in college my seven year old daughter.
Speaker 9 (12:39):
I can't do it, so I delete it. And I
would just say to Will Levis, like, if you win
this weekend, don't go put it back in.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
You know what I'm saying, Like, now that you've pulled out,
don't go back and pull back in and install it
again and start looking at all this again.
Speaker 9 (12:54):
Once you're out, just stay out.
Speaker 5 (12:55):
I feel like I have to have Instagram for my
job because there's just things we post in interactive you
learn stuff.
Speaker 10 (13:00):
But I'm out.
Speaker 9 (13:01):
I can't trust myself not to click. I'm deleted it.
I'm out. I can't do it every weekend. I'll do
it tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Is harming, Kyle when your kids know what you're doing too,
Like they reach a certain age and they're like, are.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
You watching those videos again?
Speaker 2 (13:12):
And like they start to acknowledge this is a very
specific question, do Kyle, because this.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Is a callback to March. We're on the show I
am Super.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Pregnant and I'm getting kicked, so like the baby's kicking me,
and Kyle asked me very straight up during We're going
to commercially, He's like, is the baby coming?
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Is it happening?
Speaker 2 (13:30):
And it became this really funny moment. We're all laughing
off our chairs. This is this great moment. My daughters
want to see that video every.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Day they go.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
They say, go to Instagram and show me that guy
that makes you laugh so hard. I'm like, why do
you know the word Instagram? This is really concerning. It's
probably an indictment on my parenting. So it does once
you inch towards the kids knowing what you're doing on
the phone, then you should probably want to.
Speaker 5 (13:53):
Yeah, Jamie, I hear you, and you want to see
like you want to see the worst hypocritical parent in
the twenty four twenty twenty four like this, Get off
the screens, guys, go outside and play he get away
from me, Get away from me, Get off your dumbs.
This is amazing. Get off the screens. Go ahead and
play basketball. Goes, just come home when the lights get
dark out. Yeah, I have to be on I'm doing
(14:16):
this for work.
Speaker 9 (14:17):
And they're really like, who's she? I no, it's this
is this is for work, all right, that's parents and hey,
that is like I raise my hand.
Speaker 11 (14:25):
I do the same thing. And my son I see
her twelve years old. You're like, dad, what are you
on social media? Get off of social media. It's not
good for your brain.
Speaker 7 (14:34):
Because you say, oh man, you.
Speaker 9 (14:37):
Know what's even worse, Jamie. You know when they ask you,
can we go can you do this?
Speaker 10 (14:40):
Can you do this? Go ask mommy?
Speaker 9 (14:42):
Go ask mommy, And then they go over to mommy
and she's on her phones on her Yeah, it's terrible.
Hand up. I'm ashamed. I'm ashamed. I'm hell a shamed.
It seems pretty simple.
Speaker 5 (14:55):
All you have to do is pick one team that's
gonna win and give an NFL weekends. No points, spreading,
no nothing, just this team will win by one or
by thirty, a doesn't matter. And yet it gets so complicated,
never more so than when my colleague Peter Schrager attempts
to do this in Week one. Every single year he
gets it wrong and Peter becomes extinguished.
Speaker 9 (15:16):
Remind us, why again, Peter, I.
Speaker 6 (15:17):
Took the Patriots to lose to the Bengals in Cincinnati.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
I could have sworn Joe.
Speaker 6 (15:21):
Burrow as this superhuman and Jamar Chase.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
Now it's dunk, yes, wrong.
Speaker 5 (15:25):
The Bengals still haven't won again. No, so Peter is
out week one, as usually is. The idea is you
go into week six, Week seven, week eight. All you
have to do is pick a winner. It doesn't they
don't have to cover or anything. It should be pretty easy.
So we all got through week one. By we all,
I mean Jamie and Ackbar and myself. And then we
get to week two and here's what happened.
Speaker 9 (15:45):
This is survival, all right.
Speaker 6 (15:49):
So I lost another one of these survivor pools on
the ship.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
You think I'm crying about it now, having to deal
with that craft the rest of the season.
Speaker 7 (15:57):
I'm free.
Speaker 5 (15:59):
Peter is really good at picking the Super Bowl winner,
just to ask him, but he is awful at this.
My pick for week two, as I'm pulling up the
schedule this, I'm not going to think very long about
this one.
Speaker 9 (16:15):
I got Baltimore at home against the Raiders.
Speaker 5 (16:17):
The Raiders jumped to Baltimore and they beat the Ravens
twenty six, twenty three.
Speaker 13 (16:23):
But he is awful at this.
Speaker 6 (16:38):
Hey, that's all I'm saying. You talked that smack. I
wasn't even there to defend myself. I watched a clip
talking about eighteen subtle jabs at me while he's wearing
some shirt that's like a slogan from a movie that
wasn't that great.
Speaker 9 (16:50):
It was that's all right, I don't know's it's all right?
Speaker 6 (16:55):
And then Kyle Kyle craps the bed and he picks
the Rivens, who also crapped the bed and gave up
a ten point lead in the fourth quarter, which leaves
us two.
Speaker 5 (17:03):
Week three, let's go hearing out, so my flame is out.
Here's the weird thing is like, I regret nothing. I
feel like I made the right pick, you know what
I mean? Like Baltimore at home, they barely lost the
Chiefs week one, they're playing the Raiders. I wouldn't have
done anything differently. That's just the way survival works. It's
not about me anymore. It is about the two hosts
we have in south central Los Angeles.
Speaker 9 (17:22):
Let's go to Jamie and Ochbar. Here's the deal.
Speaker 5 (17:25):
Guys, you are the only ones alive going into week three.
You can pick any team to win this weekend, save
for the two teams that you.
Speaker 9 (17:33):
Have already picked. Once you pick a team, they're out.
Speaker 5 (17:35):
So last week, Jamie, I remember you picked the Chargers
to go into Carolina and when.
Speaker 9 (17:39):
Yes, and they did.
Speaker 5 (17:40):
You can't pick the Chargers anymore, as well as the
team you picked week one, which was Seattle. Achbar, you
can't pick Tampa and you can't pick Houston. But you
guys can pick thirty other teams because we're only in
week three. Here's how it's gonna work. I have cards
right here, one of them, says Jamie. One of them
says Akbar. Whichever card I hold up randomly, they will
get the first pick, which is critical.
Speaker 9 (18:01):
Here.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
Let me go here to my cars, my single, so
I can hold this up very dramatically.
Speaker 9 (18:07):
The first pick right there please will be I'm gonna wait,
I'm gonna wait, I'm gonna wait. There we go. The
first pick will.
Speaker 10 (18:17):
Be I'm.
Speaker 9 (18:24):
Me uh you are on the clock.
Speaker 11 (18:28):
Okay, okay, So I can't do Tampa, I can't do Houston.
Speaker 7 (18:34):
This is okay, cool?
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Well, okay, cool, you're stressing stressing out, Peter.
Speaker 9 (18:41):
Who did you go with before?
Speaker 7 (18:47):
Okay, okay, can't ask Peter.
Speaker 11 (18:48):
But you know what, Peter, you got this thing that
you do with all this stuff from the past and
all this other kind of stuff.
Speaker 7 (18:55):
This has nothing to do with my pick.
Speaker 11 (18:57):
But I just think that that's a cool trait that
you have.
Speaker 7 (18:59):
I just wanted to give that a shut.
Speaker 9 (19:00):
Out looking for the compliment.
Speaker 7 (19:03):
I really like you too. Absolutely.
Speaker 11 (19:06):
I am going to go with a team that is
oh and too against a very young quarterback who has
not thrown his first touchdown yet in jayde and Daniels.
I'm going to go with the Cincinnati Bengals oh and
two wow, yeah yep. And I'm going to wait till
Monday so I can kind of just Monday Night football
Monday Night Football. Yeah, well of all command yes, yeah,
(19:30):
of all the games.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Because the Bengals wronged Peters so fiercely in the first week,
and yet.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
You still have to back to that.
Speaker 11 (19:37):
It just feels like that's where you're supposed to go.
They're going to be They're gonna be angry.
Speaker 7 (19:40):
Man.
Speaker 9 (19:41):
You know.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Four hours of TV that we do every day. We
want these segments that are kind of easy. Their layups
to ling no longer. I don't want to beat you
in week three, but now I have to. Okay, wow,
I was going to okay, I like to do this.
I was going to take you to Monday Night Football
as well. I was considering the Jaguars going to Buffalo,
and now I kind of want to do it because
(20:05):
it feels fun to be stressed out all weeknd to
see if this segment will continue.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
I was I was looking at.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
The Injury Bowl, the forty nine ers at the Rams,
but that feels dangerous as well. I'm gonna go Baker Mayfield.
I'm going the Bucketeers.
Speaker 9 (20:21):
This is the pick.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
Buccaneers at home. Thank you, Broncos in town. Baker, take
care of business, ock Bar.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
I look forward to winning.
Speaker 7 (20:27):
Oh wow, wow, can I get my camera here? Please?
Speaker 3 (20:29):
No, we have ten seconds?
Speaker 4 (20:30):
Go okay, I.
Speaker 7 (20:31):
Will I will break you. That's it.
Speaker 5 (20:36):
Cincinnati Bucks, Cincinnati oh and two at home on Monday
Night football against Washington Jamie Tampa at home against Denver.
I think it's certainly the chalk pick and the right one.
But Peter and I don't get to comment any who's
Carolina playing?
Speaker 10 (20:50):
What do you bet? One?
Speaker 9 (20:51):
Questions?
Speaker 3 (20:53):
So we can't do that to Carolina every year.
Speaker 8 (20:57):
Downfield, well, they can layer in rpo game like we
just saw, and they have a dominant offensive line in
the run game.
Speaker 13 (21:03):
That's a good combination.
Speaker 7 (21:05):
Richardson floating too, Tome.
Speaker 14 (21:09):
Xaver McKenney two games with the trackers and two under sections.
Boy Walker brought the pressure. McKinney was the beneficiary on
the vacand.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Don't leave that ball floating up there too long. Xavier
and McKinney will come out of the vacuum and snatch it.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
And that's our.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Next guest here. He's in his first season in Green Bay.
He's got, as he said, two picks in two games
with this new team.
Speaker 13 (21:39):
What's up?
Speaker 7 (21:39):
What's up man?
Speaker 10 (21:43):
Man? I'm good, I'm good.
Speaker 15 (21:45):
It's an early morning for me, so I'm still just
kind of waking up a little bit.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Okay, well enough with this tiny mic social media segment.
We're going large mic with Xavier McKinny. That's how we're
going to do this whole interview here on GMFB Xavior.
What's happening? So the hoodie it led me to my
first question. The last time you were on our show,
we love having you in the studio. We got to
run it back when in the offseason we talked fashion.
So I'm from the Midwest, I get it. What's shopping
(22:09):
been like for you in preparation of your first Green
Bay winter? I don't want to hear about Oh I
was in New York. It's the same is not the same.
You need different kind of cold weather gear and we're
going to start with that hoodie.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
So what's it been like prepping.
Speaker 10 (22:22):
Yeah, it's definitely been a lot different.
Speaker 15 (22:24):
Obviously there's not as many, you know, shops and places
to go. But I've kind of been using all my
old stuff. I kind of had some stuff in.
Speaker 10 (22:33):
The archives that I've brought out that I haven't really worn.
Speaker 15 (22:36):
So I got to get some bigger coats, though I
have like, no big coats right now, so I know
I'm not really prepared. I'm gonna start. I know, I
know you trying to get ahead of it before it
gives me.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
Yeah, you need a big coat, but specifically a bigger
size to put all the hoodies on underneath the coat.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
That's the key.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
So uh, that's for a couple months from now.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Let's talk about this weekend.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
Your quarterback, Jordan Love brutal to see what happened to
him in Brazil. Now all of a sudden, he's hopeful
to return on Sunday. He practiced on Wednesday. Now, I
know you're on the other side of the ball, but
you got to be pretty close to your quarterback watching
him operate.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
How's Jordan Love look this week?
Speaker 10 (23:18):
And he looks good.
Speaker 15 (23:19):
Obviously, he's still preppering and doing all the things he
needs to do to prepare, you know, and for us,
we just support him.
Speaker 10 (23:28):
With anything that's kind of going on.
Speaker 15 (23:31):
And for us as a team, obviously, we're just trying
to prepare for the weekend, be ready for this team
on Sunday.
Speaker 10 (23:37):
So that's really kind of what.
Speaker 15 (23:39):
Has been We have a standard that you know, we
try to hold ourselves too, and every day we come
into the building practice wise, you know, in the meetings,
we try to make sure that we're upholding that standard
and making sure that we're preparing ourselves the right way.
Speaker 9 (23:56):
All right.
Speaker 6 (23:57):
So we had you on the show last year, former
Giants captain. They let you walk in free agency, you
get to Green Bay, you get that money as you deserved.
And then this thing happens with Law as Jamie's are
alluding to, and it's like the season's done.
Speaker 4 (24:10):
Jordan loves Hurt.
Speaker 6 (24:11):
And then last week, you guys go out there and.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
You run the crap out of the ball.
Speaker 6 (24:16):
You stop Indianapolis every way they can, and you guys
find a way to beat the Colts. I give out
a Coach of the Week award each week on this show.
I gave it to Matt Laflora. I said, the fact
that this team held their head high and one with
Malik Willis three weeks into his tenure there was pretty miraculous.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
Did you guys feel pretty good going into that game?
Speaker 6 (24:34):
And just how good was that game plan from not
only coach Laflora, but coach Hafley as well.
Speaker 15 (24:40):
Yeah, I mean we felt great, you know, as a team,
We felt like we had a great week of practice.
Speaker 10 (24:48):
We had a great week of prep.
Speaker 15 (24:50):
And like I said, like for us, it doesn't really
matter you know, who's in there. We all try to
we all prepare the same way, and we try to
make sure that you know, whoever you know has to
go in the game, you know when that's next man up,
and so we try to make sure that there's never
you know, any falloffs. Like I said, we to keep
(25:10):
standard and we had a great week of prep and uh,
you know, and I'm doing the same thing this week.
But I think, you know, big credit to the coaches
for being able to get us prepared for the week,
and obviously the guys putting in the work to make
sure that you know, they had to do they had
to do individually to be prepared for the week. So
(25:32):
I think in total, just as a whole and as
a you know, as a team, I think we got
we did a great job last week, and we just
plan to you know, do the same thing this week.
Speaker 11 (25:40):
Yeah, the coaches have done a great job. Xavier U
both offensively defensively, you guys, and you particularly are off
to a great start with two interceptions, I mean interceptions
in both games.
Speaker 7 (25:52):
That's amazing.
Speaker 11 (25:52):
This defense actually leads the league and takeaways, Like, how
are you feeling with this matchup against the Titans, especially
coming off of your first home game win? Are you
guys gonna not only well, I'm gonna just ask you
straight up. You're looking for another interception in this one?
You think you guys you have the tape on on
Levis Uh?
Speaker 15 (26:11):
Yeah, man, like every week, you know, that's my my plan.
I plan on, you know, getting an interception every week.
So you know, I think I've done a great job
with preparing myself and you know, just trying to get
certain tips you know, of their offense and obviously Will
Levis uh trying to create an opportunity for for me
(26:32):
to even get an interception.
Speaker 10 (26:34):
I try to make sure I do that every week.
Speaker 15 (26:36):
But yeah, man, I'm trying to keep this thing going,
keep this thing rolling. Obviously, there are you know, really
big things that I want to do this year, and
you know, I think I've done a great job of
just having a fast start and I plan to kind
of keep that thing rolling.
Speaker 9 (26:54):
You have had a great start, You've had a great
season already.
Speaker 5 (26:56):
It's two games and we've also waited this far into
the interview to ask for the most important topics.
Speaker 9 (27:01):
Maybe I just hope you're ready for us. It's kind
of a big deal.
Speaker 5 (27:04):
Your teammate center Josh Myers vomited all over the football
in the middle of the game last week. He's full
on ready to snap it, and this dude unloads an
entire payload of puke all over the ball, through which
Malik Willis told Matt Leafloor, I didn't want to throw
it and couldn't throw it because the.
Speaker 9 (27:20):
Whole ball was covered in barf. Have you seen this?
Has the team gotten a hold of this? What do
they think?
Speaker 5 (27:26):
Because I have a follow up question, but tell us,
does the team know about that this happened?
Speaker 10 (27:30):
Yeah, so we actually watched it in the team meeting.
Speaker 15 (27:35):
Highlights of the game, and I didn't know that you
know that actually happened until I think after the game.
Speaker 10 (27:42):
But we talked about the team and I was like, yeah,
that's crazy.
Speaker 15 (27:45):
I don't like we was talking about it, and you know,
if I was in league, I probably.
Speaker 10 (27:49):
Would have just dropped.
Speaker 15 (27:50):
To be honest with you, I think I think I
think he barely missed the ball, like he threw up
and like he did it, you know, away from the boss.
I don't know how much he got on the ball,
but we did see Malik wipe his hand a little bit.
Speaker 10 (28:04):
So I'm glad that I wasn't in that situation because
I'm all.
Speaker 9 (28:09):
Right, well, not yet.
Speaker 5 (28:11):
Here's a question for you, Okay, Titans center Lloyd Cushion
Berry the third it's a third and nine, it's in
the third quarter, let's say, and you're just getting your
you're lined up, you're kind of looking at the quarterback,
looking at the offense, and you happen to notice that
right before the snap, he pukes all over the ball
and saturates the ball with his vomit. Will Levis throws
one in your direction that maybe you could pick off.
Speaker 9 (28:34):
Would you have any hesitation knowing that this is a
barfball coming away?
Speaker 7 (28:39):
Barfball?
Speaker 15 (28:42):
That's that's a that's a good point. You made a
good point. I'm probably gonna catch those show, so I'm
not gonna need a question.
Speaker 10 (28:48):
Now what I need? I need all the ones I
can get.
Speaker 11 (28:52):
Are you gonna do the Dion Sanders and put like
the ball in your face like.
Speaker 10 (28:59):
I gonna do that? I might just go down, just
get the playover with.
Speaker 9 (29:06):
That's the one.
Speaker 6 (29:07):
That's the one elateral the ball to jyr Alexander.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
Let him deal with it if you go, I don't
want to.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
Take Xavier McKinney.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
We appreciate you so much, man, so glad to see
you and hear from you. Good luck this weekend, Stay
healthy and come on the show next time. All right,
nap seas we're gonna have you in studio.
Speaker 10 (29:25):
Well, dud, thank you, thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
For absolutely good luck shopping for your big colon Green Bay,
Sherry Burris, I know you are thrilled to see a
packer on the show.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
I am.
Speaker 16 (29:34):
Dam My cheeks are kind of hurting from that Internet.
All right, go pack of Zabor McKinney. What a great addition.
You gotta love it there looking though here in La
Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, cause he popped up on the
injury report on Wednesday with an ankle injury.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
Herbert did not practice because.
Speaker 16 (29:51):
The injury suffered against the Panthers last week, but head
coach Jim Harbaugh says his quarterback is getting better every
day and expects him to play this Sunday against the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
But if Herbert can't go, could be Easton Stick getting
the start.
Speaker 16 (30:07):
Now as we are here in La, Rams head coach
Sean McVay says wide receiver Cooper Cup will be in
a cast for the next week to get the swelling
under control for his sprained left angle bay, adding it's
still undecided if Cup will be placed on injured reserve,
but good news here he will not need surgery.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
And as we talked about just now.
Speaker 16 (30:26):
With Xavier Packers quarterback Jordan Love returning to practice on
a limited basis Wednesday, it was his first time practicing
since here suffering a sprained MCL the week one loss
to the Eagles. Now his stats for Sunday's name against
the Titans is still unknown, but if he can't go,
it will be believe willis again getting the start, this
time against his former team, but he says he's something
(30:48):
to prove against Tennessee.
Speaker 17 (30:50):
No, I gotta care less, bro, Well, I think I
got paid the whole time I was there, Bro, more
than blessed for opportunity they've given me, and they brought
me into this league. You know, whether those guys are
there or not. You know that organization they took a
shot on me.
Speaker 9 (31:02):
Miss Amy.
Speaker 10 (31:03):
They did this great out about me. With all I'm
concerned
