Speaker 1 (00:00):
Just two more days until the twenty twenty five NFL
Draft kicks off, and Green Bay is ready. We are
live high above lambeau Field talking all the latest reports,
rumors and rumblings. But also we'll talk about cam Ward
with the hey guy who knows him really well. Miami
coach Mario Christobal joins the show to tell us what
makes the presumptive number one overall pick special and why
(00:23):
another QB in this draft is a total stud. Steelers
still waiting for their quarterback answer. They don't have an
answer from Aaron Rodgers as they make plans for the
number twenty one overall pick. Hear what Mike Tomlins said
today about Rogers and the possibility of Shador Sanders donning
black and yellow. It's almost here. Welcome inside with the
(00:46):
insiders alongside Mike Garafalo in New Jersey, Judy Batista in
New York. That's Ian Rappaport. I'm Tom Pillicero here high
above lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
The sun was shining today.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Ian beautiful day out here with very conly hope. It's
still a little on the chili side, but we're inside
with the insiders. Will be outside. Starting on Thursday, Let's
start out with the big news of the day from Ian,
at least according to him. No, the Titans are not
going to trade out of the number one overall draft pick.
They are going to stand pat and the belief, as
(01:20):
it has been for weeks in league circles, is that
Miami quarterback cam Ward is going to be that selection.
Here's what GM Mike Borganzi had to say today about
what exactly happens at number one.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
We've come to a consensus the entire organization is to
stay at that pick, and I guess you'll find out
Thursday night who we pick.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Did you have a lot of offers or a lot
of interests from other teams?
Speaker 4 (01:44):
There was?
Speaker 2 (01:45):
There was interest.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
I thought that was, you know, doing a due diligence
and going through the process to listen to those offers,
and they were I don't want to go into Pacific.
So what the offer was what the teams were, but
they were offers.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Ian, this is not the draft class of a year
ago for the quarterback position, when six players went in
the top twelve. There is one guy, though, in talking
to coaching and scouts around league, who profiles like a starter.
It seems pretty obvious. The Titans came to the conclusion
they simply couldn't afford to pass them up.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Yeah, that's exactly right.
Speaker 5 (02:15):
The Tennessee Titans did, in fact have options teams like
the Giants, who no doubt have been in contact with
the Tennessee Titans for the last several weeks, nor Land Saints,
another team many thought potentially could end up moving up
to one. In the end, the Tennessee Titans, with new
general manager and Mike Burgonzi and several new staff members,
took a little extra time to make sure they were
(02:36):
all in the same page.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
At all the homework they possibly could.
Speaker 5 (02:39):
They worked out the quarterbacks, they visited him hosted with them,
came to the conclusion that so many around the league
have that cam Ward is the consensus top quarterback. The
belief is that he is a franchise guy. Obviously he
hasn't played it down yet.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
We will see.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
But if you're the Tennessee Titans and the option is
just take the franchise quarterback, do you so badly need.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
It is an obvious one. It is a simple one.
Speaker 5 (03:04):
It is a very very important one. And now that
decision has been made by the Titan.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
It's really the number one quarterback in this draft. Then
you draw a line. So the real drama that's going
to play out on Thursday night is who is QB
two in this draft. We've obviously talked a ton about
Shador Sanders from Colorado for a variety of different reasons.
One of the best players in the country in terms
of the production, the awards over the past couple of years,
the second team All American. He has taken several visits,
(03:31):
including one to the Pittsburgh Steelers, whose brass spoke today
Judy about what potentially might playout for them at QB.
Speaker 6 (03:38):
Yeah, Mike Tomlin had some very kind words about Shador Sanders.
He talked about as competitive nature and his toughness is
in tangibles, you know. Mike Tomlin said, obviously he's known
Dion Sanders for years, but he'd never met Shador Sanders
before they met only recently. He said they didn't really
talk about Dion at that meeting, they were just talking
about ball. Now to the matter of the Pittsburgh Steelers,
(04:01):
Mike Tomlin said that Aaron Rodgers indecision on whether he
will join the Pittsburgh Steelers will not affect the Steelers
draft strategy. But then when Mike Tomlin was asked, well,
what you acquire during the draft, could that affect your
pursuit of Aaron Rodgers, he said, well, oftentimes what you
get in the draft, what talent you acquire in the draft,
(04:21):
affects the talent acquisition phase after the draft. So that's
certainly left the door open to the possibility that if
they get a quarterback in this draft, perhaps they cool
on Aaron Rodgers. Omar Khan, the general manager, repeated something
he had said before, which is they will take four
quarterbacks to Latrobe for training camp this summer. They've got
two on the roster. Now where they get the other
(04:43):
two remains to be seen. Omar Khan also made the
point that it is much more likely that they move
back in the draft then move up in the draft.
That sort of quells the question that came out after
Aaron Rodgers didn't give an answer last week to the
pittsbe Brooke Steelers about would they then be more aggressive
in pursuit of a quarterback. The answer seems to be no.
(05:05):
They are either going to stick at twenty one or
potentially move back.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
One other quarterback option for these Steelers is Kirk Cousins,
but for now he remains a member of the Atlanta Falcons.
Showed up for work today the voluntary off season program
kicking off, and Cousins, who was benched last season in
favor of rookie Michael Pennix Junior, was in the building. Mike,
what do we make of Cousins' presence at a time
that it certainly seems if he's made abundantly clear to
(05:32):
the Falcons he wants to be elsewhere.
Speaker 7 (05:34):
Let's go through the timeline first, because this is an
interesting standoff. I want to say between Kirk Couins and
the Falcons. It's not necessarily an ugly one, and there's
been good communication. But this started with Cousins getting benched
and the Falcons saying, well, no, we don't necessarily have
to cut him, we'll hold him into the off season.
They didn't cut him, they didn't trade him at that point.
Cousins made it clear during Super Bowl Week he's not happy.
(05:56):
The Falcons were like, we're content with him still being
our backup. Now we're at the point where I think
Cousins is kind of flipping.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
It back on them, and it's kind of.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Like, I'll do it. I'll stay here. I'll be your backup.
Speaker 7 (06:09):
If you don't trade me during the draft and I
get into the off season programs, trust me, I'll stay
as your backup. Remember, he does have that no trade clause.
So I think this is what we're gonna watch as
we get into day two. We had said weeks ago,
months ago, really now to this point that Cousins would
not okay a trade until they got through the first
round of the draft with any team because he didn't
(06:30):
want what happened in Atlanta to happen to him once again.
So once we get into day two of the draft,
we'll see if something comes together with Cousins and the
Falcons and trading for him to another team.
Speaker 8 (06:40):
If not, and this continues to go on, he may
wind up being.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Their backup, and the Falcons will tell us we've been
telling you that all along.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
We'll see Stay tuned.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Dah Also showing up for work today brock Perdy, who
is in the midst of contract negotiations with the forty
nine ers on an extension that is expected once it's done,
to make you one of the higher paid quarterbacks in
the NFL not showing up for work tight end George Kittle.
Here's what GM John Lynch had to say on both players.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
Rock is here in all the contract stuff that's still
on going.
Speaker 9 (07:11):
Just that's Brock. You know, he's a pro, and he's
you know, he's gonna he's Brock's gotta He's a very
clear minded and I'm not going to let other people
influence so like what he should be doing. And it's
one thing everybody I think respects about Brock. It's done
a lot for this organization and and you know, we're
(07:34):
grateful for him and and uh, you know, looking forward
to having him as our quarterback.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
For a long time. Things are headed into a good
direction with George. And do you expect him to be here.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
For the eleven on eleven ot a portion of the office.
Speaker 9 (07:47):
We'll see on that. You know, these things are voluntary
right now. But you know, again with that, we've had
good communication, good talks, and we'll see where that goes.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Welcome in our Steve Whitz to the conversation. If if
you're a poker player, you might be wondering why John
Lynch was really touching a lot of parts of his
face there while talking about George Seinfeld episode what don't
We make about exactly where things stand with the forty
nine or some.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
Of their star players.
Speaker 5 (08:10):
We'll start with the brock Party situation. Him showing up
today was a positive development for the forty nine is
it doesn't necessarily mean that negotiations are close, doesn't mean
that a deal is imminent, but it does mean to
my understanding that at least the conversations are going well
enough that brock Purty felt compelled to show up.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
And you're right, you mentioned it.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
Coming into this thing, he's going to be one of
the higher paid quarterbacks, no doubt going to be a
fifty million dollar per year quarterback. It's just where does
he slide in in that fifty million dollars. There's a
big range between let's say fifty and Josh Allen and
Jordan Love and so many others who are at the
fifty five mark, let alone Dak Prescott, which is sixty.
But the fact that brock Purty can sort of avoid
(08:52):
the distraction of it show up, that is a very
good sign. The George Kittles situation is a little more
challenging to me, looking for third contract still one of
the best tight ends in the NFL. The fact that
Trey McBride just begin the highest paid tight end in
the NFL makes me wonder if George Kittle, and certainly
his play has warranted it. George Kittle wants to surpass
(09:14):
that and do the forty nine ers do that on
a third contract. They have had not a ton of
progress yet he is not there and definitely one of
the bigger questions.
Speaker 10 (09:22):
For the forty nine Ers this offseason.
Speaker 8 (09:23):
Steve Well, let's talk about the Domino effective, and they've
got to get party done before they kind of know
how to manage their cap space and their cash to
kind of get to George Kittle. But let's go back
to Rock Party. You remember, this part of OTA's is mainly
just conditioning and weightlifting. It'll be interesting if a deal
is not done by the time they get on the field,
this Rock Party still participate and risk potential injury before a.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Deal is done.
Speaker 8 (09:46):
That's what we'll kind of know where things stand. But
clearly this is a positive sign after George Kittle. Right
now does not seem like things are really negative anyway,
Like the Niners aren't taking it for granted. But it's
like he's a veteran player. We'll get him in here.
We get him in here with the Niners. Need to
worry about is what they do Thursday through Saturday.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
That's drafting well.
Speaker 8 (10:06):
Because they've got several key players Trent Williams, George Kittle
and others who are in their thirties who they've got
to replace. They've already seen some talent let leave the
building this offseason. They've got to strike it rich in
the draft at certain key positions to replenish this roster
with some of the players we're talking about eventually kind
of mosy on to their next careers.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Steve stick around a lot more from you. Throughout the
course of this show, brock Perty also showed up for
work with our guy Daniel Jeremiah. Take a sneak peek
at the latest episode in our new content series where
Brock Party and Daniel Jeremiah break down the game film
and talk about this year's NFL draft prospects, all with
the help of Toyota. Be sure to check out going

the Sticks.
Speaker 11 (10:52):
Obviously, the expectations that he's had, you know, throughout his
college career and then taking Colorado to new heights like that.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
You know that's not easy.
Speaker 11 (11:00):
The knock is a little bit of the arm strength,
and then you know, holding the ball took a lot
of sacks with my experience of playing, like if I
can show my guys you know that I can get
hit and then keep going, that just shows a lot
about you know, your leadership and just being able to
learn to get the ball out, play within the timing
of the offense and concepts. So I think those are
things that he has and will continue to learn.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
And development, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Forty nine ers only number eleven overall. Pick the Cowboys
sitting right behind him at number twelve, What direction could
they go? Maybe adding another weapon for Dak Prescott. Nobody
better than our Jane Slater to break down things at
the Stars. She'll join us in just a little bit,
But first, cam Ward made his way from a mid
round pick to the presumptive number one overall selection through
(11:45):
one magical year at Miami. Mario Christobaul was there for
that progress, and he joins us next to tell us
what makes cam tick? That's ahead on the insiders. The
Titans technically aren't supposed to reveal who they're drafted number one.
(12:05):
We're totally not supposed to reveal who they're drafted number one.
So just taking these mock drafts where across the board
everyone is projecting cam Woard to go number one overall
to the Tennessee Titans. For more on cam Word, let's
bring a guy who knows him very well, Mario Christobal,
head coach of Miami Football, with me Tom Pilaicero as
well as Ian Rappaport. Mario, just tell us about cam Ward.
(12:28):
What makes this dude so special?
Speaker 12 (12:30):
Dam Ward one of one, tough, smart, instinctive, relentless. The
guy just wants to win. He wants to his teammates
do well. He's a program changer. I don't know where
to start and I don't know where to stop. But
he embodies everything you want and a team leader in
your quarterback.
Speaker 5 (12:50):
You know, if you look back, I guess maybe a
year ago, right around this time, cam Ward was coming
out of Washington State. If he had declared for the draft,
probably would have been I would imagine some sort of
a mid round pick. What happened in the last year
to turn cam Ward from pretty good quarterback on maybe
a future in the NFL to the likely number one
(13:13):
overall selection.
Speaker 12 (13:14):
Well, I think a lot of things wanting to play
number one is him, is God given ability, is upbringing,
his mentality. But you know, at Washington State we felt
that man he had all the tools, but he was
running for his life half the time, right and he
was always playing from behind. So all that improvisation, the scrambling,
the having to just make things happen all the time.
(13:34):
We want to place him around a really strong supporting cast,
starting with the offensive line. And here he had protection,
and he had some really good receivers, and he had
a system that a lot in the play fasts and
play free and no one sees the feel like he does.
I mean he sees it like you like these kids
the way they played John Madden football on TV, on
(13:55):
those play systems. He just has a knack for understanding coverages,
to get guys to lean one way or the other
and create space. With the way that he just approaches
the game with the use of his eyes is overall
knowledge of the game. He just he gets it. And
certainly putting all those things together led to a great season.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
There have been a lot of comparisons to Patrick Mahomes
and Caleb Williams in terms of the play style and
changing our angles. I are another interesting one, which was
one coach said to me, there's almost a little bit
of Ben Roethlisberger in him in terms of what he
has guys bearing down on him in the pocket. It
seems like, even though he's a much smaller dude, he's
got this innate ability to shake people off and extend
plays that way. How does he play bigger than the
(14:37):
size that he is at times?
Speaker 12 (14:39):
Well, he's a lot bigger than people think. I mean,
he's got some meat on his bones. Now, He's not
one of these little skinny mini guys, and he just
feels it.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
He's got a sixth sense, he really does.
Speaker 12 (14:48):
And look, our offensive lineman love him because he's going
to find a way if there is pressure, I get
away from it. And even though sometimes those plays might
last seven, eight, nine, ten seconds, he finds a way
to create some magic, you know, along the way. So
he is just he's very knowledgeable of protections and I
don't think he gets enough credit for that. He spends
(15:09):
an extraordinary amount of time with our offensive line coach
understanding the ins and outs of five six seven man
protection some of o are you know, sprint protection, move
the pocket stuff. And so when you do that, when
you know where the freeman's at and what you have
to do with the football and where your guys are
going to be, it leads to some unbelievable opportunities.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
And I mean you see it all over the table.
Speaker 5 (15:29):
You know, a long time ago, a couple jobs ago,
you recruited a receiver named Calvin Ridley to Alabama. Now,
if if this happens, if kim Ward does go number
one to the Titans, like we all think that's going
to be one of his top targets.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
First of all, what.
Speaker 5 (15:45):
Kind of pairing do you think that will be? And
then what situation in your mind does kim Ward walk
into in Tennessee.
Speaker 12 (15:52):
Yeah, Calvin Ridley was was the best skilled player I've
had a chance to recruit. It really was the most
explosive to the most dynamic artists working. First guy out
to the field, last guy out to leave. Man, you're
talking about this, maybe he's to think I should write
a couple of waivers and get them back to college
for a year and then pass them out of the NFL.
I mean that that combination right there is that's hard
(16:16):
to match, you know, And you know, Calvin's a guy
that I don't know what the miles per hour the
GPS have said, you know, at the NFL level, but
man and over at the University of Alabama, he was
the fast and most explosive guy. And Cam Cam the
way he creates stuff, the strength of his arm, his
arm angles. Like you mentioned, there are so many plays
(16:38):
where it should be a batter ball, it should be
just get rid of it, throw out of bounce where
he just he's deadly accurate, and he finds ways around
people and around people trying to match the hand he
gets it to him.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
So those guys will be awesome together.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
You had a quarterback at Oregon, of course, named Justin Herbert,
who's gone on play some really good football in the NFL.
You also had a backup quarterback at the same time
named Tyler Shuck, who eventually became your starter in twenty twenty.
He was still playing college football last fall. He's in
this draft. What do you remember about Tyler Shuck then,
and what if anything do you see for him as
(17:12):
far as his future in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
Tyler Shucks a total stud.
Speaker 12 (17:16):
He led us to a conference championship during the COVID season,
and we alwaysknew he had a right future, you know,
and he moved on and went on and did great things.
And I think he's going to be an outstanding NFL quarterback.
Great human being, great leader, tough, physical, can run, accurate.
That guy's got all the things you also want in
a great quarterback. So you know, certainly wishing him the best.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Mario. Thanks a ton. No, it's a really busy week
for you. We'll see up here in Green Bay in
a couple of days. Make sure you bring a couple
of layers. It's a little chillier here than it is
down there at Coral Gablest.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
No layers down here, buddy, but I'll bring a couple
up there.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
You go, exsce all lot Coach, We appreciate Mario Christibal
coach cam Or the presumptive number one overall pick in
this year's NFL draft, But what other quarterbacks could be taken?
As this draft rolls on, we'll have our guys Baldy
and Steve Whites to break down Jalen Milroe and many
more next on The Insiders with the twenty twenty five
(18:21):
NFL Draft, Rapidly approaching NFL prospects all over the country
are gearing up for the moment of a lifetime for
Oregon quarterback Dylan Gabriel and Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden.

weight of what comes next. Join these exciting prospects behind
the scenes as they put the finishing touches on their
NFL draft journeys in the latest episode of Destination Green Bay,
(18:44):

Speaker 10 (18:48):
Yeah, we're like four weeks away from the draft. I
don't think you hit me yet. You know, Dom about
to get draft He d the.
Speaker 7 (18:56):
Twenty first pick in an NFL draft day.
Speaker 13 (19:00):
We finished our last part of the pro day, the
last event in the pre draft process.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Dylln, what's up my brother? How you doing?
Speaker 10 (19:08):
It feels great to be back in Miszoo. You know,
see my old teammates.
Speaker 13 (19:13):
Kind of a lot to take in on that this
is your last time throwing truly in the in the
Ducks uniform.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
This is where the standards are set.
Speaker 10 (19:23):
This is where we find out your next path in
our life.
Speaker 13 (19:27):
All that work that you put in for this dream
that you want to accomplish and man, this is it
Johnny's comes to.
Speaker 10 (19:33):
In the end, new ones began.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Hey, look at Bucky Brooks top five quarterbacks. He has
been consistent throughout the process, with Schor Sanders ranked at
the top, ahead of the presumptive number one overall pick,
cam Ward and the rest time now for as the
aces presented by Ace Hardware are aces. Tonight, Brian Baldinger
and Steve Whitez joining us from Los Angeles. I'm to
pill sero here in Green Bay. I've got a new
(20:02):
article up, my annual breakdown of the quarterback class through
the eyes of coaches, scouts and front office members. They've
got cam Ward as the clear number one schadeur as
the two you guys were adding Shador's pro day, Baldy,
give me the eyeball test looking at him? What up close?
Speaker 4 (20:18):
What did you see? Well, it's interesting.
Speaker 14 (20:20):
Steve and myself were both there standing behind him for
the sixty throws. Tom and I was with cam Ward
the week before and there was a clear difference between
how cam Ward throws the football and Shador does.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
The thing that I saw with Shador, though, was.
Speaker 14 (20:34):
The deeper the ball went, the better the ball the
tighter the spiral, the more accurate to throw. I thought
the intermediate throwers got away from him. See little lows
got away from him, sailed.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
On him a couple of times.
Speaker 14 (20:47):
But the deeper the ball, And that's what I saw
exactly over the last two years at Colorado.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Tom was the deep ball.
Speaker 14 (20:53):
Accuracy was something that was special about him and I thought,
separating him from every other quarterback back in his class.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
But then you know when you spend time.
Speaker 14 (21:02):
Talking to Pat Shermer, his offensive coordinator, and how simple
the offense had to be to actually exit the strength
of the offense, which was the four receivers including Travis
Henry and Shador. It's basically all they had. It was
a pure West Coast type offense where you got your
inside receivers or outside receivers. Let's get the ball out
(21:23):
of your hands quickly with all of the you know,
all of this, the quick screens and the shuffle passes
and things like that. But then when he had to
make a play like he did it this pro date,
he could get the ball down the field to a
star and ball.
Speaker 8 (21:36):
Let's make it clear, they didn't simplify the offense because
of Shador.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
He can handle the offense.
Speaker 8 (21:39):
He's had four plus offensive coordinators that has adapted very well.
They did this because the guys, the rest of the
guys on the roster, you know, some of the things
in talking to Dion and other people at Colorado close
to Shador, you know, we talked about he's gonna go
to three of the Giants, whatever their whole focus is.
Put him in a situation where he can excel. Yes,
could that be the Saint to nine, could be the
(22:01):
Steelers are twenty one? Couldn't that be wherever they want
him in a healthy environment. And Tom that may go
to some of the things you've heard about him being
away from Deon Tanners for the first time. I don't
think that really factors into that thinking what the folks
closest should do, or I think they want him in
a situation where you've got a healthy offensive line, a
good coaching staff, and some stability in the buildings to
(22:23):
where he's not in a situation like Caleb Williams where
they're changing head coaches after the first year and things
like that.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
I talked to one GM this week who said he
would guess based on his conversations doing the evaluation that
probably half the league has shud Or Sanders's QB two,
half as Jackson dart as QB two. There's certainly a
lot of that that I heard between coaches and scouts.
The other interesting name, Steve, that's really come up in
this process is Jalen Milroe. I had several coaches and
(22:50):
front office evaluators tell me this is the best running
quarterback they've ever scouted on tape. Now Lamar Jackson, not
Michael Vick, Jalen Milroe, which is high pri And we
can break down the stats and all that, but it's
clear there's some skill set here. What have you heard
about the potential fits for Milrae.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
Well, it's interesting time because.
Speaker 8 (23:08):
Bald and I were just talking and kind of the
comp is Jalen Hurts in terms of the size, the
arm strength, and the running ability. Now he's faster than
Jalen Hurts, but he's strong. He's physically a strong player,
and the fact that he can make the throws that
he needs to make and he's not necessarily the on
schedule guy or things like that. Those inconsistencies are probably
(23:30):
why he doesn't make it into the first round. But
the overall talent the upside. That's what you keep hearing, upside, upside, upside.
We hear that about developmental quarterbacks, not about guys you
can go to a team and start right away, regardless
of their roster.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
On the NFL level.
Speaker 8 (23:45):
One thing, too, Baldy, I want to make abundantly clear
is we know he's been invited to Green Bay to
be with Tom Andy and those guys for the draft.
Right A lot of guys are often invited who are
not going to be in the green room on day one.
They could be there in the green room day two.
That could be the case for Jalen Milroe. We don't
know that right now, but that could be the case.
(24:05):
Just because he's been invited doesn't mean he's expected to
go in the first round.
Speaker 14 (24:08):
Well, I mean, Jalen Hurts was the fifty third pick
in his draft, and I really applauded the Eagles for
taking them as a developmental quarterback like Jlen Milroe should
go as a developmental quarterback. And it was very quick
in Philadelphia that he was a threat to Carson Wentz
and eventually took over for Carson and then became the
Super Bowl MVP. But the Eagles were very patient with them.
(24:31):
They did change head coaches, but they never stopped building
around them. To your point, Steve, some of these quarterbacks,
if they can go to the right situation where you
could sit and become the scout team quarterback the first year,
where you could have an offseason and maybe two off seasons,
a preseason, and you could work on the fundamentals of
passing to improve your accuracy, whether it's your footwork, whether.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
It's your release.
Speaker 14 (24:54):
Because the god given ability to run right through Ellishu's
defense or George's defense, those sec defenses where he ran
for thirty two touchdowns last two years. If it was
flag football top they weren't written the flag off.
Speaker 4 (25:07):
Jaylen Milroe in some of those games.
Speaker 8 (25:09):
And Tom real quick, I want to say, what's interesting
about this Milroe conversation Now, Once we've heard people say, well,
maybe he's got to play wide receiver or a different position,
the thinking that has come now to the coaching and
evaluation to the NFL about the dual threat and the
mobile quarterback is so different than just five years ago.
It's really pleasant to hear that. So I'm like Jalen
Milroe has created all this buzz because of his dual
(25:30):
threat ability.
Speaker 14 (25:31):
Real quick, Seve, just because the NFL can only take
what the college game is giving you, and they're giving
you Jalen Milroe, So figure out a way to implement them,
coach them up, build around them.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
That running abillity and also the arm strength. Has learned
to put some touch on it at times. From the
coaches I've talked to, it's a lot of fastballs, but
you can't teach that skill set, which is why if
I had to guess, I'd say Jalen Milroe comes off
the board a little bit sooner than everybody's expecting. Steve
and Baldi, thank you very much much. As always, so
much more to come here. Just two days out from
(26:04):
the NFL Draft. When could quinn Sewn Judkins hear his
name called? He will tell Mike and Judy when Quinjehn
joins the show next. It's the insiders.
Speaker 7 (26:19):
All lot of that for quin Sewn Jackins and Travion Henderson.
As you look at Bucky Brooks's top five running back prospects,
yeah there is some talent there in the top five,
and some various running styles and some various ways of producing,
but a lot of ways of producing we're gonna bring
in one of those.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
Two buck guys.
Speaker 7 (26:35):
Right now is Quinn John Judkins joining Judy Batista and
myself Mike garra Falo here on the Insiders. I'm gonna
get right into it because I'm just fascinated when we
have guys on. I love to talk to them about
what other people are writing with the scouts are writing up,
because if someone wrote up something about us, I'd want
to read it, like, hey, really good at interviewing sometimes
though has no idea what the hell he's talking about.
You get that with these scouting reports based on what
(26:57):
you guys do. This is Daniel Jeremiah saying he runs
over to the ground and hunts the unblocked defender with
a thirst for violence. Seeing a lot of that in
the scouting reports, you'd like to get that contact.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
Where does that thirst for violence come from?
Speaker 4 (27:11):
Quinnchjow. I think it's necessarily just a thirst for it.
Speaker 15 (27:15):
I think it's just one of those things that I have,
is my ability something that I can do as a player,
My versatility to be able to be elusive, have that
patience and vision and also be able to stiff onm
and you know you use those things when needed, but
just being an all around players who've always.
Speaker 6 (27:30):
Been Take us a little bit behind the scenes. What
this process has been like for you. What kind of
feedback have you been getting from teams? What have they
been telling you about what they expect from you when
you get to the league.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
I think a lot of team will visits.
Speaker 15 (27:45):
They know what type of player I am, the impact
that I've had in the CEC and also transferring to
the Big Ten and also have success there too. But
you know, having really sat back and really just you know,
looked and talk with teams about, you know, what type
of things I could do. Obviously just coming in and
being an impact player, but aside from that, just taking
it all in and just going on different business again
(28:07):
to see different organizations and you know, seeing their culture
there and just enjoying the experience.
Speaker 7 (28:12):
Look, the running back is back, right, and say Kwon
Barkley helped that this past year with what he was
able to do to lift the Eagles to a Super Bowl.
You look at this class, you look at those five names,
including your teammate Treveon Henderson. What is this running back
class saying right now about.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
What you guys can do?
Speaker 7 (28:26):
What you can do in particular to help a team
win in the modern NFL.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
Yeah, I think a lot of teams are starting to
realize that.
Speaker 15 (28:32):
You know, running back is a very pitiful, pivotal position
for your team to have success, and you need a
run game to be able to get the ball to
the receivers, and that is very important in today's game.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
I think teams are starting to realize that.
Speaker 15 (28:43):
And it's a lot of great backs in his draft class,
and I think, you know, coming up, there'll be a
lot of guys on the board.
Speaker 6 (28:52):
What has it been like going through this process with
a teammate at the same position, sort of ranked, you know,
right around the same area. Have you guys been comparing
notes when you talk to teams?
Speaker 4 (29:02):
What's it been like?
Speaker 7 (29:04):
Oh?
Speaker 15 (29:04):
No, just really a support of each other, talking, you know,
every few days, making sure he's good, he's making sure
I'm good, and he just talking about each other experience
when we go to these different places. And I think
it's the same thing since we've played always one and
what's best for each other, having that friendly competition that
we've always had, but like I said, just truly having
that true competitiveness, but at the same time, being there
(29:26):
to support each other.
Speaker 7 (29:28):
You know, you get to the NFL and it's like
a lot of guys have, you know, the home run
ability and the ability to get those hidden yards and
do all these things. But I know these NFL coaches
and it's all about pass protection. Can he pass protect
too because we need him to do that, and can
he take care of the football. And I saw this
the other day. You fumbled just one time, one time
over your last five hundred touches. I don't know if
(29:49):
it's like a no hitter where I'm not supposed to
bring it up to the picture, but I want to
give you the chance to talk about why you're so
good with ball security, man.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
Ball security, ob security.
Speaker 15 (30:00):
You know, I feel like it's always one of the
most best things you can do at my position is
protect the ball and done a pretty good job at it.
Never never been an issue for me, and just really
going out there and executing this one of those things
that I look forward to and you know, going to
play football again.
Speaker 4 (30:19):
Trust me.
Speaker 7 (30:20):
Thirty two head coaches and offensive coordinators just now were like, yes,
that's exactly what we're talking about. So there's a great
answer there. Quinn shot Tell us, by the way, give
us another answer. Tell us what you're doing today with
Old Swice, Old Spice, Swagger, deodorant and body wash.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
Yes, so I've partnered with Old Spice.
Speaker 15 (30:38):
They always keep me fresh to this draft process with
their Old Spice products. I love their deodor and also
their body wash, and they keep me, you know, at
my best, so I really appreciate them.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
There it is.
Speaker 7 (30:50):
He plays clean on the field, he stays clean off
the field. Quinn Sehn Judkins joining us here on the Insiders.
Wishing you all the best, and I can't wait to
see what this rookie running back class, including yourself, can do.
Good luck, bow, Thank you all right, Quinn John Judkins.
Could he be a cowboy? Could he be getting a
call from Jerry Jones?
Speaker 4 (31:09):
Just like that?
Speaker 7 (31:10):
We think one running back eventually will early in this
draft and they'll be happy about it.
Speaker 4 (31:15):
We're talking cowboys. We're talking draft.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
We're talking cowboys.
Speaker 7 (31:18):
Yeah, we're talking cowboys here on the Insiders.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
Neck all right.
Speaker 6 (31:26):
The Dallas Cowboys have the number twelve pick. You can
see what the mat drafts. Ooh, lots of Matthew Gold
in there. Three out of the four to o Mari
and Hampton also gets a mention it is time for
count on it presented by Toro. We can always count
on our Jane Slater and Brian Baldinger to bring us
the goods on the Dallas Cowboys. Jane, you were out
(31:48):
at the start today they did their pre draft press conference.
They actually said they don't have their board entirely set yet.
Speaker 4 (31:54):
What'd you glean?
Speaker 6 (31:55):
Where do you think they're going with number twelve?
Speaker 3 (32:00):
I think what that says is what I did pick
up on was this was a very collaborative process between
the Cowboys and this new coaching staff with Brian Schottenheimer.
Keep in mind, over the year's Judy, Brian Schottenheimer has
sat in those rooms and I think he appreciates the
value of everyone's input. And you know, look, Jerry recognizes
they did not get where they wanted to go last year,
(32:21):
but he does say that they are really good at
this draft thing. And if you look at all of
the Pro Bowls and some of the individual accolades of
some of the guys they've drafted in recent years, it
would suggest that they would now they haven't always had
on all of them. I mean, names like Tristan Hill
have come up, Taco, Charlton, go down the list. But
when we look at pick twelve, I'm not entirely convinced
(32:41):
that they're going to stay there at pick twelve. I mean,
Jerry talked today about working on some potentially substantive trades.
In other words, they talked about the need to pick
up the phone. They're not calling, They're waiting for people
to call them, So I see that being a possibility.
I also threw out three names on Twitter, and Cowboys
are big bad.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
But Judy, let.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
Me preface this by saying, these are just three names
I've been told to keep an eye on. I am
not telling you that they are picking these guys at twelve.
But Walter Nolan defensive tackle, James Pearce, he's an edge.
Matthew Golden at wide receiver. Cowboy fans would love it
if they went and got Matthew Golden with his speed
to compliment Ceedee Lamb. We've got Texas sou on the
(33:24):
roster if that happens. But if he's not there, I
get this, since the Cowboys are comfortable trading down, and
I've been told repeatedly leaning up to this draft that
the Cowboys are really hyper focused on building up those trenches. Now,
I know that they've been able to address some of
this in the free agent market this offseason, both on
the offensive line and the defensive line, so it gives
(33:46):
them a little flexibility. But I will say in years past,
I've had a pretty clear vision of where they're going
with their pick. I haven't really had too many names
that have been drilled in whispered. I'm just I'm getting
the sense that they are sort of waiting to see
how this board plays out. But they do have their
eye on a couple of guys, and as in years past,
they think they've got about fifteen to eighteen guys with
(34:08):
first round grades.
Speaker 14 (34:10):
Jane, those names you threw out there are good players
and they would help this Cowboys team. But I want
to go back to something you said about Jerry maybe
in trade mode, because I'm an advocate of Jerry trading.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
In this draft.
Speaker 14 (34:22):
They've got ten picks, trading from twelve into the top five.
You can pick forty four, pick one point fifty nine.
You could get to the top five to get Ashton
genty Cee. Jane, the Cowboys are at their best when
they have a star running back going back to door
set in seventy seven, second pick in the draft.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
What they do?
Speaker 14 (34:42):
They won the Super Bowl that year. How about in
Emmin when they picked them in nineteen ninety two years
later they started a mini dynasty, winning three Super Bowls
in four years. Zeke in twenty sixteen came in led
the league in rushing, was a star right away. They
won thirteen games. They didn't finish it, but if they
were on top of the heap when they did it.
They need to start running back. They need a guy
(35:04):
that Dak can turn around and hand the ball off
to three hundred to three hundred and fifty times and
maybe magic can start to happen and maybe this franchise
can turn things around from the disappointing season that they
had a year ago.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
Yeah, you know, Baldy, I as someone who grew up here,
hear it from a lot of people. I mean that
running back my committee certainly didn't work. I was grabbed
at the East West game by Ashton Genty's people. Keep
in mind he grew up in the Lone Oak area.
It would be a hometown feel for him. He wants
to come to Dallas the old and I would love
to see it if they're doing a smoke screen here.
(35:39):
I think the one knocks I've had on the Cowboys
is they've almost told you what they're going to do
before they do it, and that's taken away some of
their negotiating power. They're being really quiet, so maybe they
are throwing out some of these smoke screens, but I
would temper that by saying when I brought up the
idea of a running back with that first round pick,
also bringing up the success of Aekil Elliott, I had
one person telling me even if they'd gotten Henry last year,
(36:01):
they don't think he would have had the ear he
had behind that offensive line. In other words, they think
that they need to bolster that offensive line, and they
do feel like they've got some depth at the running
back position. So I'm with you, Ashton Genty, and they
love those Boise State players. I just don't know if
they're going to have the appetite to go all in
on that without feeling wholly comfortable about maybe that offensive
(36:21):
line just yet.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
But we'll see.
Speaker 6 (36:24):
I feel like we have been talking about the Dallas
Cowboys and running backs for two years now, so let's
see how it goes. We've only got another two days
until we get the answer. Jane and Baldy, thank you.
When we return, we're actually going to talk about a
former number one overall pick, Jamis Winston, Award winning Jamis Winston.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
When we return, Russell Wilson and Jamis Winston getting it
in in the weight room. They're both members of the
New York Giants, along with their teammates, getting a jumpstart
on the voluntary off season program. This way, that's right.
Jameis Winston has another new team, and I'm sure we'll
(37:05):
be hearing from him in one way or another. Probably
Tobily No, I have nothing here.
Speaker 14 (37:12):
Have not her put the log up in the play
wire from O WA gonta.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
Believe this is it for the win.
Speaker 14 (37:18):
James coby Te pets Tillman fits.
Speaker 4 (37:22):
What a throw by Jameis Winston.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
The prog whin there's a white boy from Detroit.
Speaker 10 (37:29):
That our rule, Mr n em and new He said,
you only get one side, do not miss a chance
to blow.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
If the sky's the limit.
Speaker 11 (37:35):
You can't say the sky's the limit when people have
been on the moon.
Speaker 1 (37:38):
Ten years ago. This week, Jameis Winston was the number
one overall pick that pails. A comparison to this honor,
Fox Sports digital correspondent Jameis Winston has won the twenty
twenty five Best Sports Individual Creator Webby Award for his
coverage of Super Bowl fifty nine. That is a w
judy that he definitely can eat. And all I keep
(37:58):
thinking every time that we see what Jamis is up
to is this is a very real situation where if
the Giants, let's say, draft a certain quarterback from Colorado,
Russell Wilson, could be the least interesting quarterback in that room.
Speaker 6 (38:13):
Can we please get hard knocks back to the Giants.
I know John Maher would throw his body in front
of that, but that would be the greatest hard notch
just on the quarterback room. They don't even have to
do the rest of the team.
Speaker 7 (38:25):
I just stream Jamis on draft night. Get his reaction.
Take a quarterback, don't take a quarterback?
Speaker 4 (38:30):
I mean, he.
Speaker 7 (38:31):
Seems to be You gotta go somewhere, Ian, you have
somewhere to be.
Speaker 4 (38:34):
Go ahead, You're up.
Speaker 5 (38:37):
No, when you get an alert on your phone, you
got to check to make sure it's not breaking breaking news.
This time is just a random tweet. But it's fine.
Here's really what we need. I need jamis to be
on the sideline. We need to stream that. Get a
microphone him. Just that's the commentary we would watch. I
would watch that during a game.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
Who knows, maybe he'll show up right here in Green Bay.
The draft is two days away. Insiders back tomorrow. Josh
Jacobs will be on the show. Will see that
