Speaker 1 (00:09):
Welcome on in. We're here off the Edge with me
your host Cam Jordan h.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Man.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
I'm excited because anytime I get to bring bring on
a col grad, I get excited. It's always Go Bears.
But recording from the NFL Media Studio in Los Angeles.
When I think about, you know, justin Richmond again Go Bears,
where he got his bachelor's and graduate degree from. UH
A self proclaimed music nerd, but more importantly, you know
on the iHeart podcast he's got a broken record, a
(00:36):
music podcast he started with the best selling author Malcolm Gladwell.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
And music legend. Hey, you know, I appreciate you coming in.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
I'm happy to be here. Man.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Nice and nice to have a podcaster to a pseudo podcaster.
I'm the pseudo by the way, you're the pseudo. Yeah,
I'm suit You're a Saint, so yeah, I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Man.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Come look, I heard you're a Detroit Lions fan as
well as UH, you know, a Saints fan, because you've
got connections of both.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Connection I'm I mean, I you know, when I was,
when I was young, young, we still had the Raiders
here in La so I was I was a Raider fan.
Raiders left I felt I was in a wilderness, man,
So you know, I kind of looked toward you know,
we would call back home to family at family Louisiana,
family in Michigan, in Detroit, so we called back home
on holidays, and everyone be rootingone' was watching football. Everyone's
(01:21):
rooting for the Saints the Lions. I don't got no one,
So that sort of going with Saints Lions too. And
so that's kind of, you know, while we were in
the NFL wilderness here for the last however long twenty
five years. Yeah, I became a Saints and Alliance fans fan.
And you know, now don't even got it in me
to root for the Ram or the Charge, you know,
I just I just, you know.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Sort of just fell out the love.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Yeah, so still still a Saints Lions fan. Still still
I appreciate that.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Yeah, you know, I called Detroit the Saints North. Do
you Dan Campbell up there? They had Chauncey Gardner, Johnson,
alexands Alone, my guy a g until Aaron Glynn until
he went over to the Jets. You know, they had
like four of our coaches, four of our different like
four players. I'm just like, oh, you know, Marcus Davenport
up there, and I'm just like, come on, man. I
(02:07):
was like, I was like, all right, Saint North.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Think about that. That is Saint North. That's beautiful. There
is a connect there's and there's just like those two
towns man that the cities themselves too. They just feel
very i mean connected.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
And so yeah, I mean Detroit fifteen years ago was scary,
and now Detroit it's nice.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Like people are actually moving to Detroit.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
People going to the city, back to the city. Everyone's
trying to get back to the city.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
There's a time where they were trying to give away
houses for like five thousand.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
I was like, dang, I should have bought me when
I'm thinking.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
To give a houses cheaper than that.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Man, Just you know, it is. It is what it is.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
But you know, brother, like you your height. You know
you talked about football. We know you're a basketball guy.
Athletic background. Yeah, well yeah, when you're this tall, we're
in a six fours to sixty six range. Everybody was like, oh,
you play basketball, right, that's right, that's right.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
And yeah, I mean like I do.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
But like, see, the.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Problem was, you know, when you've grown up, like in
the nineties, and it's is Michael Jordan and you know,
like that was it. Like so but I was always
the tallest kid. So even though I'm guard hight now
like it was like the centers and this wasn't like
when the centers could have fun like Mike and Drill
like hour after and you're like, I think I'm good.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
You didn't want to be Rashid Wallace, you know, like
I mean Wallace.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
I would have. But then you know, like you know,
like really to like especially like for now, like I
look at like a Draymond Green, like I'm like, oh man,
if like if I'd had that as a model, I
maybe would have done that. You know. I started thinking
about myself as like maybe a defensive specialist, Zach Randolph
back in the game, Zach Randolph, even Rodman, you know,
let me just go rebound, Let me just go do
something other than just standing under the block, you know
(03:42):
what I mean, And and uh but yeah, so oh
yeah I hooped, but you know, and then uh but yeah,
so that's the extent of athletic background. I didn't take
it too far. Yeah. My dad played got drafted to
the NFL. My brother he played overseas Europe, and also
uh Australia and uh and so yeah, I mean my family,
(04:03):
my family is athletic family. Yeah, I went the artistic route.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
I mean, uh, there's somebody told me there was a
rumor about you, like you didn't get your your you
didn't get a high school diploma, but you got a master's.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Nah, I ain't no high school.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
How does that happen?
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Don't you have to have a ged to send it
to a college to get into the Is that that worked?
Speaker 2 (04:26):
No, I don't have a g D. I don't have anything.
I got like an eighth grade diploma and then you
know whatever, like I got went to I need going
to community college, got an AA and then just transferred
to got my bachelor's and didn't know couldn't get a job,
so I on't got a master's so I could finally
get a job. So that was that. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Man, just my whole, like the whole childhood just seems
like a lie. Like you told me I technically didn't
have to go to school.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
I'll say I didn't know that.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
When I left high school, I wasn't like it wasn't
some master playing but I left spent like a year
in the wilderness, and then I was like, I gotta,
I gotta figure something now, like I gotta, I gotta,
I gotta get my life together.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
And then then Jukoke was calling your name. Juko was yeah, yeah,
it was calling. And so I was said, let me go,
let me just go pop in and do that. Yeah,
you only had to be you either had to have
like two years of high school under year belt getting
into junior college, or be like sixteen. But I just
I think I just fudged in paper. I was fifteen
and a half.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
So I just I got two years. I was like,
I'm in my seconide.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
And now yeah, exactly right. So I just said, was
born in eighty eight, you know, well right.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
In, born in eighty eight and you're eighty nine guy.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
I'm an eighty nine guy.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Yeah you are, ay right.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
You know that's that's me right there, hats me, all
of it, all about, all about all over in the
heart right there, I'm like eighty nine er. You know,
all the nineties kids like to like pull us into
their bracket. They're like, no, you're really ninety kid, don't
do that, you you weirdo. Stay right there in the nineties.
You know, that's right, man. Yeah, I'm like, no, no, no,
I'm my eighties baby, and I'm gonna hold on my
millennial gen y whatever.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
We are, you know, a great generation, man, boom great.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
I hold it down.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Every time I start to feel old too, I just
think I'm like, all right, at least we got I'm
not like, well, every time I started to feel old
and I got kids and they start to make me
feel bad. But don't you know, like Taylor Swift nineteen eighty,
I'm born the same years Taylor Swift.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
I can't be old and then switch up on you.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Oh really? Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
I'm never gonna use her as my reference point, but
not in my household.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Look, I'll say that's the that's that's the only time
I'm using her as Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Three Girls of the because I know the moment I
introduced her to it, it's probably gonna be over me.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
I tried, I really tried to indoctrinate them, be more Beyonce.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
There's a second.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
I was want to even turn them onto Rihanna, and
my wife put an end of that. She was like, no,
everybody work much too soon.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Who's your all time NFL NFL or favorite NFL player? Yeah? Man, okay, okay.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Uh you know, like coming up, I would say, like
coming up, like Marcus Allen. I love Marcus Allen. I
got to I got to hang with Jim Brown him
with times when I was when I was younger, and
uh so you know, I never got to see him
play or anything, but hanging out with him and like
it was that was like insane. And so you know,
(07:10):
and he's an all time, all time, all time, all
time great. So I mean he's up there too, just
talking about the history of the league there.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
So you're a running back guy. That's that's what I'm
catching out. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I think like score
a touchdown guy.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
I would have loved to have been a running back. Man.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
They'd have Brandon Jacobs back then, like six six' five out,
there out, there totet. Tater, yeah and they didn't Have
Derrick henry.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
No. Man but that's What i'm. SAYING i was born
to this weird age, man or this weird but you
made you figured it. OUT i just didn't have the, vision.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
You to the.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Podcast world that, journalism, did, yeah. Man journalism did. YOU
know i started out like a, Music GUY like i
just grew up. On. MUSIC man i, Loved MUSIC like,
i said my Family from detroit And, in louisiana So
like motown And the south, With, that like so my
whole family just. LOVES music i grew up. Around it
that was my. Real interest and THEN when I when
(15:31):
i went up, to college, YOU know i drifted away
from music JUST because i just FELT like i had
to go do like try to go make something. WITH
myself i guess you KNOW what. I mean SO when
i got, INTO college i, was LIKE and i did started,
DOING music i started. DOING journalism i REALIZED like i
could JUST do I realized i'm good at, That TOO
and i, WAS like i can just merge my. TWO
worlds i CAN do I can i'm good, AT journalism
i can. DO that i, LOVE music i can bring
(15:51):
that in and.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
So major in. The philosophy so.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
We're here we're here for, you know the the uphor
feelings of hey is?
Speaker 1 (15:59):
Time linear let me.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Tell you it Was like i'm majored, in philosophy which
was a calculated mistake or not. SO calculated i. DIDN'T
know i WASN'T making i wasn't thinking that, one through
you Know what. I'm SAYING because, I graduate i couldn't get, a,
Job man and so the first thing that CAME to
i took a journalism course my last semester of undergrad
and the teacher, was, like hey this is pretty like
the thing the LAST piece. I wrote it's, Pretty good
(16:21):
like you should sell this to like the, local Paper The.
East express she had, a connection so she sent. IT
in i didn't forgot all. About IT so I was,
I graduated i was trying to, get jobs couldn't get.
A job that check came in, from that it's FIRST
money i got paid. AFTER COLLEGE i I GUESS i'm
I guess i'm, a journalist. You know BUT then i started,
interning FREE and i, was like well THEN then. I
appli i, was, like well let me. FIGURE out i
don't want to keep working, for free so let me
(16:42):
go to let me go to. Grad SCHOOL so i,
did that, and yeah it's just been just been just.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
All, the way all the way. It is so you
got some published works, OUT there i got some. PUBLISHED works.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
I got some published works. Out there, that's correct.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
All right so what took you to the? Podcast?
Speaker 3 (16:57):
World then like how? That happened was that out the?
Garage podcasting and then you're like you?
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Know? What nah you know what HAPPENED was, i, STARTED
well i started listening to podcasts, in, college man but just.
COMEDY ones i just thought they. WERE funny i was
like this is this, is interesting but not thinking anything,
of it. You know and THEN when i went to, grad,
school WELL when, I started i couldn't AGAIN when i
couldn't get, a JOB but i started getting, THOSE checks
i started writing a. LITTLE bit i was, just, like
well let me figure out how to get into. This
(17:23):
INDUSTRY so i just cold emailed like a bunch of
people sort of looked AT like tv shows and RADIO shows.
I liked i just cold emailed a bunch. Of people
the only the ONLY person i heard back From Was
tavis smiley's Producer Who tavis smiley used to HAVE showing
pbs AND pr i on, the radio and he just
like was like owned all this stuff and would licensed
it out to the different places and had a studio
(17:44):
Here In. La MERT so i heard back. From them
so they they they brought me on and showed me,
the ropes, taught me started teaching. Me stuff and SO
when i went to, GRAD school i, was like, you
know radio thing is kind, of COOL like i actually
kind of, liked that and so and the and. The
radio uh the radio advisor at my grad school he.
Was cool he had a he did a show With,
(18:06):
dan AYKROYD and i, was like that's kind, of cool
like like, You KNOW so i just started learning. From
him and THEN when i graduated and got a job
through HIM with mpr down Here In. Culver CITY so
i started doing THAT and i was doing that for a,
few years AND then i got hit up by someone
a friend who, Was, Like Hey malcolm gladwell starting this
(18:27):
music Show With. RICK rubin i know you're a, music guy,
you know and you know how you know the, audio
world like you want to be interested in and working.
ON it i, was, like, yeah absolutely you KNOW what.
I mean so that, was. It man, YOU know I
met Malcolm met rick and uh the.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Same time he guys went to dinner, YOU know la
is a very like meet you at lunch type of business.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Meeting place NO man. I MET so I met Malcolm
In santa monica, And uh i'll. Never forget Don't think
i'm My share i'll never forgets my first Time. Meeting
malcolm and, YOU know i, GOT like I. LOVE malcolm
i read all the books. All that i'm sitting, there,
like wow. That's cool it Is malcol and then some
guy rides by on. A bike, it's, Like, yo Malcolm but,
MALCOLM goes i don't really know who it is, and,
goes oh That's That's, brian grazier who, was like, you
(19:11):
know Big time hollywood producer Man Like brian grazer just.
Touched Everything so i'm, Sitting there, i'm like it was
THE most, la moment like A true, la Moment, LIKE
la i never really had a lunch like that was
Kicking It. Mountain gladwell and then Oh There's brian grazer
using about to, say hi and you KNOW what. I
mean it was. Wild man and then ANOTHER time i,
met HIM actually i met him at a. Coffee shop
we're supposed to meet at a certain time and he
(19:33):
was wrapping up a meeting with With. MAV carter i
was like what what like this is Right when lebrony
what is? My world? The world what is? You know
so that was that was kind. Of wild, but yeah
and then but at, that time there was that had
been those Fires in malibu in twenty twenty, twenty eighteen
like fall, twenty Eighteen So rick rubin's house had, burned
(19:53):
down so he was Out. In hawaii AND then i
just flew up kind of, FLIGHT out i DON'T matter
whi kind of flight Out. To hawaii we rolled around
and to pick up a couple of days talking, about
music talking, about podcasts and talking. About life, and yeah
that was that. Was it we were off the races.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
And like, all right it's all. Us three. We're right.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
That's it that's. It man so.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
What's uh So The Broken, broken records what's podcast? Focusing?
Speaker 2 (20:25):
On, uh yeah we do long form conversations with with
musicians and people related. To music so like even like,
you know we've had like executives, on before but, like
basically if you if you touch music and you're part,
of music like, you know we were a space to
have like, long form passionate conversations about, music, yeah yeah
(20:46):
we're so.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
Music's inter twined.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
WITH life, i mean if you if you eat, good
food you're probably gonna, be, like dang this place got
some fire music or judge a placed bias ambience to be, like,
hey man like food, was good but like the music.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Was terrible think about that like, that really like people,
like restaurants like really top tier restaurants where the, food's
hidden like they pay to make sure that they got
right like, right people the right people to to curate
the music even, they know like, you know it's like
that's all a. Sensory. Thing man so food and music
really do. Go together and like even, for me like
(21:17):
my wife will know LIKE if I if, I'M cooking
i don't have music, on show just turn it on
because You know i'll mess the food Up if, i'm
NOT like i have to have music On when, I'm
cooking LIKE if, i don't like you can't get in,
a rhythm you KNOW what, I mean like like cooking
is a, rhythm thing, like right, like right you got
to like you could sit there and follow a recipe like,
chop this do this five minutes this time? Is that?
But now but really you know you cooking when you're
(21:38):
just in a rhythm like you can and you can
just it's like it's a, flow state like so you,
just know like, all right do do, this now, you
know bring That in, onion's done go the throw the,
pork on, you know, you know like so especially and
you know if you don't, do especially, you know like
the last Two years i've done like the entire our
entire things giving, plus plus like the entire traditional plus
(21:59):
the LAST year i made, Gumbo too so YOU grew
i really had to be.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
Like chicken sausage we're talking about.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Like Seafood, UH no i didn't do seafood just because,
you know we had some amateurs, at that you KNOW what,
I MEAN so. I couldn't i could like like, you
know friendly, for everybody. For everyone but, so yes we
just did like some man dewey sauce and. All, that
yeah it Was good Man in Turkey in turkey instead. Of.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
Chicken right, and meanwhile you just got like, you Know
The isley brothers play in, the background.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Gotta you, got it you got it because if you
can just throw ON like i have a playlist especially For,
Cooking thanksgiving so you know that who knows that. COULD
take i might start the, day BEFORE so. I don't
i don't want to hear the same, song twice so it's, it's.
Long MAN so i just throw some Mom and I'm just, i'm,
off man. THAT'S it i. LOVE cooking i. Love food it's.
Definitely intertwined.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
Definitely intertwined so Are you Are you Malcolm and rick
like on the same mindset of of what good music
is or do you guys have different Views.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
On everyone's got, different taste, you know like everyone in
the world has. Different tastes like, for, me man, YOU
know I love, I love I love R, and b yeah.
And always BUT like i grew up in a house
that really appreciated, like singers you KNOW what, i mean
vocals was that? Vocalist, Vocalist YEAH and i don't KNOW
(23:11):
if i had an appreciation with THAT when i.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
WAS young.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
I don't, I mean I think i. Liked it they
didn't think much bout but, you know like, you know with,
you know, you know we had, hip, hop LIKE so
i WAS like i was checking for rappers for that kind.
Of thing But as i've, gotten, older, man, like yeah
like we Just Had smoking robinson on the podcast and
it was like you're. Sitting there, you're like you're, Sitting
there you're Looking At. Smoking robinson, you're like that's, a vocalist,
you know like that's.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
A singer he can steal crow to this day to.
This day like got an.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Amazing voice, you know he's eighty he's, eighty five, eighty six,
you know and he can. Still see he's still out
on tour.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Killing it should be shaking. KILLING it I think I
said i was that like two or three. Years ago
we was out there trying. To, DANCE yeah, i said look.
At it come, on man come, On, man okay is?
Speaker 2 (23:54):
That?
Speaker 3 (23:55):
Smoky yeah is there any anybody you've ever been? Starstruck
by while, mid interview.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
You know we Just Had will smith on AND that
i was definitely star struct all your, fresh prints definitely.
Starstruck man that was like he like he really has movie,
star energy you Know what. I'm, saying, So like i've
met famous people and, that's cool don't really trip. Off
that but when you get around someone who's movie, star
energy you feel that you just kind of. Like aura it's,
like oh like it's just it's not like you're, Just,
(24:22):
like okay this is a different kind, of person you
KNOW what, I mean like they operated at another level
and you JUST very i was just. FOR me i
was just very conscious, that okay LIKE like i have
an aura of. A kind but, you know you get
Around will, you're, like okay that's peak.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
Into, THIS okay i see what he brings. The, table, okay.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Yeah you, Sitting there you're just, like wow you KNOW what,
I mean like this is THIS is i don't, even know,
it's crazy. You know so that was that Was pretty
that was pretty wild, to experience, you know but that
that'd be like one of the ONLY times i was really,
like starstruck star struck. Like that but, but, yeah man
been fortunate to meet a lot of people and they,
(25:03):
always say don't meet, your heroes But Everyone i've i've
come across is always like, like. Cool, Amazing yeah like,
you know the OTHER person i met one time that had,
that similar same Aura Was. Prince man, same thing like,
same thing like you just, like yo like you KNOW what.
I mean he, was, short right, You KNOW i'm i.
(25:25):
Was towering he had heels. ON it i was like towering.
Over him but you just like you just like it, didn't,
Matter bro like none of, the nothing none of the
rules of, Normal light like it was just, like whoa
you KNOW what, I mean like he just.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
HAD that, I say i feel like everybody that Talks
about prince says that. Same thing like it's almost like
he like floats in instead of like. Walking in i'm,
like WHAT but i, was Like clearly i've never been
met up a peak or, you know.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Like, telling YOU and i don't know if it's too
like some, OF it i think what must, have been.
YOU know i try to think.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
About the mysticism That. Is, prince yeah and.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Some OF that i think probably is constructed by like
like SO because i try to think about this experience,
in hindsight LIKE when i, met HIM before i actually
got to shake, HIS hand i, SAW him i saw
a door open up and purple light came out, the
room and then he. Came out what, That? Was PRINCE
now i think back, to that go if you don't even,
BELIEVE me, I go i swear, to you like a
(26:15):
purple light came Out and i'm like a.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
Rational guy, YOU know i. Studied philosophy i'm a.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
Rational GUY like, i LIKE so i started to think
Back that, i'm like he must change the lights where
he goes so if, He like i'm gonna be like
he must have someone, come change, you know because and
he probably thought about things in that way and in
some way helped create. That mystique but there was still
even just, meeting him Like like Mona and mont like
there was a something innate in him too that, was like,
(26:40):
all right he's the man like, man like it don't
matter you five, Foot another you're, the man like you're.
That guy and it, also too there was like about
five six girls just, going crazy like just screaming like
he was just like, you're, like man this is, this
is this, dude's another this. Dude's another but not too.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
Many artists can like invoke that type. Of emotions it,
was like, you know that was. The error that was
the error for that was the era, for man, You Know.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
Prince, MICHAEL jackson i mean they to.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
Live dog that, WAS like, i mean imagine being. A
start imagine you imagine being one of the most famous
people in the world in the, mid.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
Eighties right there so many of. Them too it's like,
you know Like Even eddie murphy for a second broke
into the. Music, World Yeah, mick jagger, you know like
there was to your, point right the acting they could
have all. Over here we're gonna do. Some music we're
going to do some modeling like just. Did, everything yeah
absolutely look like but bring tears out, of people, you
know like just Impress of lufah big and little, You
(27:37):
know but, all right how do you how do you
feel about, you know taking it over as the main
host of.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
The, podcast uh, you know it's a. It's surreal it's
big shoes. To fill but, You know i'm just a music,
Fan man so like, to me, YOU know i my,
whole Life like i've loved every kind, of music, all eras,
all everything And so I'M just i LOVE and i
love talking. To people i'm. NATURALLY curious, I love, I
(28:06):
love i love talking to like, you know like like
everyone's interesting, to ME but i really. Love music and
so just the IDEA that i could just get to
sit there and talk with people who, YOU know i
really RESPECT and, i know, YOU know i know like
every detail of like. Their background it's just like you
get to kind of nerd out with them for an hour.
Or two like, It's unbelievable like, You know you're just
sitting There with will and you just going through your
(28:28):
mind like, this song, that song, this movie. That movie
And then i'm, Sitting there, i'm realizing Like when i'm preparing,
for it like, You know Men, in black, huge movie,
huge single or, huge song but was never. A single so,
you're saying, you're THINKING like i was asking him, ABOUT that,
i go you were so famous and so big that
(28:50):
you could release you could put a, song out not
even put it out as, a single like where you're
doing the normal promotional little and it would, still chart
like it would still be like the biggest song on.
The play that's like AND then i was looking back
to you and he had never really done any press
really like as a as, a rapper as, a musician
(29:11):
as a guy, in music like like all, this stuff
and that it was like geared towards like FILM.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
And, tv right but he Probably, minus summertime, you.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
KNOW minus i couldn't even really find anything in that
era really like he didn't do like after it seems
like after he got On The, fresh prints like he
didn't do much press as a as a as a
as a rapper. Or anything so you're like that was
just A nuts so to be able to sit there
and really get kind of his story as, a rapper,
you know whatever you think about him as. A rapper,
you know like there's plenty of people all, he's corny
(29:40):
is this? Is that but like there's there's really good
stuff out of, his catalog and he had really, big
hits so he's fascinated, to me you KNOW what. I
mean so to get his story like that was was.
Was amazing, so yeah it's like big Shoes. To phil,
You know I'm No, Rick rubin I'm No, malcolm GLABO
but I just i, love, music MAN and i have
a lot of respect for it from from guys like
(30:01):
that to, you know to to uh like, you know
young young cats like who don't have much of a
following even you KNOW what. I MEAN like I love
i love. ALL music i. Love Everything so i'm always
out trying to hear stuff and, watch music, you know
go go see.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
Some shows you din't feel like it's it's too much
pressure to do pressure from.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
It all like now you're the, Main guy like it
was a lot easier for me holding some podcasts when
it's me.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
And, marking yeah, you know.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
When you when it's it's it's due you out. There
tangling you can rip off each other now it's.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
Just, you yeah a lot.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Of, voice yeah but.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
You know that's part. Of growth, that's. Growth man you
know what, so yeah is? It, pressure yeah but it's
it's like. Everything's. Pressure man that's like. Everything's pressure everything,
is hard, nothing's easy you KNOW what. I Mean like
i'm never One of. I'm not i'm not one of
those people who were like everything just, came EASY like.
I had i had to work. For everything, you know.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
You have a wilderness Here from, that's right. That's right
just know what happened to this? WILDERNESS year.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
I can't speak.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
On, that yeah, you know it's probably why you you
were for a.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
Lawyer president you Know what.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
I'm saying you refer referred to your career as a
bunch of.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Happy, accidents yeah, it's true and that's sort of that's
sort of what it.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Alludes to, that's.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
TRUE man, i mean so there is so MUCH of
i was even talking to someone Just on FRIDAY who i.
WAS asking i was just getting their advice on some
different investments, and things because like, You know i'm starting
to think about that now because.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
Now you want to talk.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
About investments friday where the stock, market, crashes, well.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
Yeah because i'm, like money and this. IS crashing i
finally got. Some money this is.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
GOING down i put, Some money like, we're LIKE and i.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
WAS down.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
I got LUCKY because i even really been thinking about investments.
My LIFE so i have, no, my, My my i'm a.
Cash guy right now it's the.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
Perfect time.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
I'm good So now, i'm like WHAT can i WHAT
can i put my, you know WHAT can i? Get
into BUT and i was talking to this guy who's
been prettyuccessful in. The market, he's like, you know so
much of it is he, was, in like so much
of it, is luck. You know and it's like that
is a common ingredient in. Everyone's story you could, work
hard you could be. Really talented you could work hard
and be. Really talented BUT there's, i mean luck is
(32:03):
such a whatever. LUCK is i don't even never even
really sad to think about what, it is like what
is in our lives and in the world how. That
operates but like there's definitely an element of luck and
and everything and bad, luck too like and misfortune and.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
All, That right but we all have friends and you're, be,
like bro this could have, been HIM or i could
have been, like HIM or i could have been down bad,
like him and just one turn or, one incident one whatever,
it is could have easily flipped my life in a completely.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
Different direction, yeah, yeah yeah you think about that's. Scary
too so THAT'S why i try to just operate off
goodwill and, good energy keep the, vibration vibration and, try to,
you know as LONG as. I can you.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
KNOW facts, i mean, you know we only got. One
life let it be a. Good life.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
That's it, You know i'm here to be a blessing
to others and hopefully they'll be a blessing.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
To me, all right let's turn into the. Finals question
i'm gonna give you my five my top five hip hop.
