All equestrians want to harness mindset know-how and learn the ease of successful riding. On this podcast, I’m demystifying the mind, delving into the best of mindset and debunking myths for equestrians and horse owners. Mindset is the key to solving a host of problems that manifest when we ride, including riding anxiety, self-doubt, limiting belief, imposter syndrome, overwhelm or perfectionism. As an accredited Trainer and Master Coach of NLP and Hypnotherapy, I’ll lead you through the solutions that work for me and my clients.
Isn't it great when you chat with someone and you're both on the same wavelength? That's what happened when Maria Jeffers and I recorded this episode.
Maria helps equestrians develop mental fitness so they can enjoy their riding and make progress. She is a horse rider who has battled with negative thoughts and emotions that have hindered her own progress and enjoyment. She used to become anxious before and during lessons, worried...
Mental preparation is often foremost in our minds for a balanced riding mindset, but how important is mental recovery after the ride?
I'm exploring why mental recovery is just as important as the preparation and another piece in the jigsaw puzzle to being the rider you want to be.

Is it worth being grateful and practising gratitude? Does it actually do anything scientifically proven for your mind? Well, in fact, it does. It does more than make you feel there are others worse off than yourself.....it gives you a dopamine hit and much, much more of the things we riders need!
Thanks so much to everyone who has 'bought me a coffee' (or tea in my case) that's been lovely and keeps me making these episodes! This...

Scarcity mindsets are created out of a fear of losing something - money, time, opportunities. As riders, the perception of having no money or time or that others get all the opportunities is common. However, the opposite of scarcity is abundance and it is not something we acquire; it's something we tune into.

Today we're exploring the intriguing concept that not getting what you want can be a blessing in disguise - and even more than that, can be the start of a whole new, better chapter. In fact, setbacks are not synonymous with failure—they're opportunities for growth, resilience, and serendipitous coincidences and events.

Carol Dweck coined the terms 'fixed mindset' and 'growth mindset'. It's very easy for equestrians, striving to achieve their targets, lapse into fixed mindsets. You'll know it when you experience it - errors become huge disappointments and frustrations, you see failure at every turn. But growing into a growth mindset is easier than you think!

Time Line Therapy®️ doesn't necessarily mean therapy and can be extremely useful to riders. Can you imagine emptying your emotional baggage without having to talk about your past? Can you imagine how much lighter and more positive you'd feel and how much more you could do physically?
Timeline work is gentle and deep and helps riders to put their energy into their riding, rather than holding onto old emotional episodes, trauma or...
As equestrians, we mostly have to get up early. How do you find it? Are you a morning lark or a night owl? Chances are that if you're an owl, you'll feel a begrudging obligation to haul yourself out of bed every morning. Whereas the larks are fine with it.
Can owls change? Should they? Are larks really at an advantage? Actually they are. Find out more on this episode!

Cantering fears are one of the most requested aspects of riding that I deal with in client sessions. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you prepare and go on to cantering confidently! (Please ensure you have the right level of riding ability to canter the horse you choose to canter and that you wear appropriate head protection and a back protector. I'd advise cantering with a qualified instructor too.)
Today, I want to have a little bit of a journey into our brain. In fact, I want to look at a little part of the brain called the hippocampus because our hippocampus has so many things to do with riding - memory, memorising, learning, 3-D spatial awareness and even processing emotions linked to memories. How do we nurture and care for this part of us that we owe so much to?!

Anticipatory nerves are so common amongst sports people and equestrians are no exception. However, this style of anxiousness is a learned behaviour and anything we've learnt, we can unlearn (can you remember all the stuff you learnt at school?!). Tune in to find out more.
