Speaker 2 (01:31):
Yeah, he's public relations, public information, he's all that good stuff.
My brother is back in thy house. Drew mcgraven is here.
What's up, brother, Heynes? I know that hat, Thank you,
thank you, good afternoon. I'll tell that story later.
Speaker 5 (01:47):

And you know, anytime I come here in this control room,
I can feel your spirit surely, and it's just a
great opportunity. You know, I appreciate you for having us
here to talk.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
You know, I appreciate you because I love you, Drew,
because you always come with good news, to come with
stuff that's positivity, and that's what we need, especially in
this city.
Speaker 6 (02:08):
Oh yes, ma'am, Yes, ma'am.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
All right, So tell our listeners. I didn't want to
tell us about what's going on. What's happening? Why are
you here?
Speaker 6 (02:16):
Let me tell you. Let me tell you.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
I maybe a couple of months ago, I was at
matter of fact, George and I we were here on
the station when he did the Lucky Levin you know,
the story at Fisk University. And I met this brother
right here, Jay Vincent Dimps, and you know, and I
was asking him about what he was doing. He told
me about it, and I said, manly, I definitely love
to help you guys with it. And I mean, what
(02:39):
he's doing is he's created a foundation, the Mary E.
Demps Foundation, which is something that he created in order
to keep moving the legacy along. And I'm gonna let
him get into his story. But he has this great
event this the fourth year he has a golf tournament.
And you know, when you you know, we like to
(02:59):
act like we can play golf. I ain't no tiger
y'all act like y'all yeah, But you know that's the
thing about it.
Speaker 6 (03:07):
I noticed when he told.
Speaker 5 (03:09):
Me about the event, and I looked at it, looked
at it, and I said, oh, man, this is good.
This is really good because what he's doing is creating
opportunities for youth in the community. And a lot of times,
you know, we don't know. You guys know because both
of you have attended HBCUs. You know you've been educated
over at RUSS. I was telling him that. I said, so,
man's that's a good connection. So he's created an event
(03:31):
to help youth that are in college first year a
couple of years. He is the one that is in
part provide fund to get all of the proceeds for
the Mary E. Dems Scholarship Fund Golf Classic. It's going
to be this Saturday at the Links at Pine Here.
They've redone the golf course. I really thought I could
play golf when I got over there. You know, Jay
(03:51):
had this bag and everything, and I was like, man, okay,
but yes, he's created this great event. And I just
have to say hats off to Jay Vincent Demps because
not only has he created a foundation to help youth
in our community. But not only that, but he's established
longevity in the legacy that he's created in his mother's name.
Speaker 6 (04:10):
So I'll let you talk to Jay.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
All right, Well, good afternoon, and welcome mister j.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Vincent Demps. How are you.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
I'm fine.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
I was gonna then I saw the name Demps.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
I was gonna ask you because one of our former
managers was Bruce Demps.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
Related.
Speaker 7 (04:29):
Yes, one thing I will tell you about the Dempson name.
If that individual's name is Demps uh uh ninetime related
because originally it was Dempse, but we dropped the e.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
Y wow.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
So that's how we know.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yeah, because Bruce came to us from when when he
came to us, You remember Bruce, He came from Florida
and he came he was he was our general manager.
And when I saw the name when I was looking
at the Mary Denny related to Bruce.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Always out of Florida, heavy live O that whole area.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
That's what we can wow wow.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
So Jay, tell our listeners a little bit about yourself.
And I sure do want to know which HBC you
you are.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Brother, Oh, here we go, Here we go, John Inci Dempse.
Speaker 7 (05:14):
I am a fisc alum I'm also the president of
Memphis Fiske Columnia Association.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Oh okay, treasurer class in ninety one. Also a member
of gaff FU. So I'm Fist.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Fist Fist fifth Fist Fist fit Fist University.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
All right, what year did you graduate?
Speaker 3 (05:29):
I finished in ninety one? Wow?
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Wow fist? Yeah all right, brother, that but that's definitely
an HBCU. So and and you're are you a Memphian?
Speaker 3 (05:41):
No, I'm originally from New York City.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Wait a minute, brother, New York City, and you can
get the Fisk University?
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Who told you about Fisk? In New York City?
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Born and raised in Harlem?
Speaker 2 (05:52):
My mom say, whoa, I love this now? Yeah, yeah,
we got a brother in here from Harlem. I love
it it. Born and raised in Harlem.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Born and raised, born in Harlem Hospital. So I'm Harlem, Harlem.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
You Hale Harlem? So Jay So? Who told you? You know?
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Growing up in New York City in Harlem? Who told
you about fist? Did you have relatives that are tend
fist scored?
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Well, my mom knew a lot of people attend to fist.
Speaker 6 (06:17):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (06:17):
Fist was in a lot of conversations. My mother was
a big proponent at HBCUs. And when it came down
to it, she gave me two choices. She said, you know, hey,
checks are going to it's this school of that school,
you know. So I had to choose between the two,
and I chose fist.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Oh wow, that's fabulous. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
And so you never decided to go back home? And
how how did you decided to stay here at the South?
Speaker 7 (06:42):
Well, after finishing in Nashville, I stayed in Nashville. I
just felt like I always felt like the future was coming,
you know, South South, Okay.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
And I wasn't a big proponent of the snow.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Oh see, I love the snow and I'm gonna tell
you I love it. So I grew up in ann Arbor, Michigan.
So I love cold weather and I love the snow.
I'm a Wolverine girl.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Wow, I.
Speaker 6 (07:07):
Don't love the snow.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
I love Cole Weather.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Now hot, no, sir, I don't do hot well, Jay, Wow,
I don't do it.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
But anyway, so you're stayed in the South. You've been here.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
So why did you decide to have a scholarship fund
in the name of your mother?
Speaker 4 (07:27):
What made you decide to do that?
Speaker 7 (07:29):
Well, So my dad passed us a little bit quick
background okay, and one wanted me to run as investigative company.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
I've grown it to where it is now.
Speaker 7 (07:37):
So we've got you know, office in Nashville, one of Memphis,
and five throughout the United States. My mom got real sick.
She had a stroke come to final it was a
second stroke in twenty fourteen, and I struggled for two
years to keep her and eventually she passed. Okay, And
I just felt like, you know, I've been spending the
last twenty five years running my dad's business. What could
I do to honor my mom? And then when I
(07:59):
sat down with it, I said, well, hey, First I
started out saying, hey, I'm gonna do a scholarship exclusive
for FIST and then from there just kind of grew
in terms of conversation. I was like, well, hey, I
know so many other people, students, children go to HBCUs
that you know, I want to touch them all, you know,
because an HBCU family, we all family, you know.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
So you said RUSS.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Yeah, I got my bachelors at RUSS and I got
my masters at the I love Jackson State University, the
I love Yeah. Hey, hey, Jay, if it wasn't for
Jackson State, I wouldn't be in this business today. I
wouldn't be in the radio business, Drew if it was
not for Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
So hey, that's an.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
HBCU, right, And as we've always said, and you know, Jay,
hbc they embraced their students, they embrace us.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
We're family.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
Yeah, and when you leave from there, you're on a
whole nother level.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
That's right, you are, yeah.
Speaker 8 (08:58):
You are.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
So you decided to do the scholarship in your mom's name.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
And so with the scholarship, the money you raise, you.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Helped students go to HBCU or FISK in particular.
Speaker 7 (09:09):
Well, all students any HBCU. You know, all they have
to do is apply. Of course, we go through the
application process and selection. Over the last four years, we've
helped students at Howard fam you Tennessee State, of course, Fisk.
You know what we do is, you know, we raised money.
Depending on what we raise, we try to make sure
that we balance it out equally so we can touch
(09:29):
as many lives as possible versus just make it one
big scholarship. We'll say maybe twenty five you know, smaller
scholarships making utilize it for as books, you know, whatever
they need to utilize it for.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Okay, okay, And so with the scholarship fund, have you
always done golf tournaments of you or you've done other
things to raise money for the scholarship.
Speaker 7 (09:52):
Well, I've been fortunate enough Jackie Watkins, she's been helping
me from day one. I've known her for years. Golf
has been her strong point. So we've always kind of
raised the bulk of our money during the golf events.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Okay, and so we're gonna talk about the golf event.
But I was just curious that.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
And how long have you had the scholarship fund.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
It's been going on for four years now.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Four years. Oh that's good. Yeah, that's good. I love that.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
And I'm sure that a parent or grandparents that listening
and they'll probably say, well, this may be a good
idea for my child, a grandchild or nieces and nephews.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
How do they apply? Can they apply? How does that work?
Speaker 7 (10:39):
It's all on the website. You can go to the website.
It's a DEMP Scholarship Fund dot com.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Www.
Speaker 7 (10:45):
DEMPS Scholarship Fund dot com. Go to the website. It's
on the front page. You scroll down, you click applications.
Right there, you can fill it out, submit it. I'll
typically be the person to receive it, and then we'll
put it towards the Border Trustees. On my Border trust Fees,
I have several fist guys. Another HBC alums.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Okay, do you have to be a high school student
or college student who can apply?
Speaker 7 (11:10):
Well, the way it's designed, you can already be in
college or you can be entering into college.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
Gosa, gotcha. Sounds good.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
If you've just tuned in this afternoon, we are talking
with mister j Vincent Demps, who is over the Mary E.
Demps Scholarship Fund. We're going to talk about a fundraiser.
They have my guys in here, mister pr Man Drew.
But I'm just loving these brothers with these hats. Drew,
this HBC HBC you had.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
I love that.
Speaker 6 (11:39):
It's a story behind the hats.
Speaker 5 (11:41):
Okay, what's the story I was telling j Because you
know when I first met Jay, I met him over
at the Links at pineher Nice facility. They renovated the
facility and it is absolutely amazing. And so when I
was there, of course I'm looking around and I noticed
h Well, I noticed that Vincent Taylor had on ABC.
You had when we went out met with j and
(12:02):
MS Jackie. And then when I got inside and I
looked in there and I saw those hats, and I said,
Jay Man, we need to get a couple of them,
hats man, because that's what we need to use, because
I used it.
Speaker 6 (12:12):
For twols that we can use.
Speaker 5 (12:14):
And and of course as you noticed it, and of
course the one noticed its what's with HBCU golf? And
but that's the whole coin of it, you know, even
though the foundation is raising money and using golf as
that that counterpart to bring us into this whole different environment.
But yet a lot of times we don't recognize golf,
(12:36):
you know, in our communities.
Speaker 6 (12:38):
So unless you know, you just think you're Tiger Woods.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
But in most cases I saw the head, I said, oh,
you know something that's something subliminal that we're gonna use.
And of course, as I think everybody through this week
is going to be asking, so I've already recommended to
him next year that we do golf heads, because I mean,
it's just it's just a beautiful thing. And then not
(13:02):
only that, but I think that because these hats are
actually sold right there at the links at Pinehell. That's
one of the reasons.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
Why so they sell abc U.
Speaker 5 (13:12):
So it's always almost like there was already predestined him
to do that because prior to that, now last year
he was at Pioneer, but prior to that he was
over at a different place, and for whatever reasons why
he moved it, he moved it to a better place.
Speaker 6 (13:25):
Yeah, because I just believe that God.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
That is strategic, strategically has just laid out a plant.
So when I saw these, I say, man, do I
need to get the hair Doe get the hat right?
And he said, I'll get it. So, so you know
we're gonna be sporting these hats all week.
Speaker 6 (13:40):
Jay is not a hat man.
Speaker 8 (13:40):
You know.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
I'm a hat man.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
I know you're a hat man. But it looks good
on you, Jay, I appreciate it. He looks good on you.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
I appreciate And you're.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Right, Drew, because when I when I saw that, when
I saw you come in, I'm going like, oh, I
like that hat, right, and then it stands out right,
So no, we you know, you know me, I'm always
thinking the ways that I can that I can help
in creating.
Speaker 5 (14:03):
And even though Mary Demps is not on this hat,
Mary E. Demps is on this hat because it's all
about her legacy. And so the golf tournament goes into
play right because we're at the Links in South Memphis,
and so I believe that we have a connection to
HBCUs and alumnis that have actually gone to abc u's
(14:24):
and I know they're listening right now, because this is
what's got to make a difference when we're moving forward
in the community. We were just in there talking about
the different generations and when you can create a foundation
that's gonna not only help, that's not only gonna benefit,
but that's gonna motivate it and.
Speaker 6 (14:40):
Inspire the youth that are already.
Speaker 5 (14:42):
In HBCUs or that are planning and then some they think, well,
maybe I might need to look at playing golf, you know,
And that's just a difference in being able to create
these opportunities and bring the young people into something that's different,
and not only that, but pulling in support from the
community to help this organization that has committed to helping
(15:03):
the youth in our community, particularly by way of scholarship
fall as it being able to help and support them
throughout unit attendant at the Universities.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
If you've just tuned in this afternoon, we are talking

Speaker 2 (17:22):
People who are listening, and as Jew said, those folks
want to be Tiger Woods. No who think they can
play golf. Tell us about what's going to happen.
Speaker 7 (17:32):
Okay, this Saturday, we've got an eight am T time,
so we'll be doing registration starting at seven am. Golfers

a couple of hole in one contests, We'll have a
five day cruise. We're having the twenty five thousand dollars
(17:52):
cash prize. Wow, we got another hole in one win,
a free set of golf clubs. So there's a lot
of a lot of things going on. Everybody always leaves
with the door prize. We've been fortunate enough to get
a lot of things for the swag bags. So it
is this year is gonna be it's gonna be great,
it's gonna be it's gonna be interesting, it's gonna be
a lot of fun. And of course everybody we've gone
(18:15):
back to the barbecue, so we'll be an r this year.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
Okay, that's good.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
So so people listening now, can they register ahead of time?
Speaker 4 (18:30):
Do you prefer that or you know what the day
of the event.
Speaker 7 (18:33):
Well, we're prepared to receive people a day of the event.
I mean, if they can register ahead of time, that'd
be great. If they go to the website www. DEMPS
Scholarship Fund dot com and go to the events tab,
it'll take them. You can register their online. That way,
we'll have the names and everything in advance. But we're
more than welcome, you know, to receive So, so the.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
The Golf Classic is it individuals? Jay or or people
have a team? I don't I don't know how.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
I'm not a golfer, so I don't know how you
work teams. I don't know if teams individual Tell.
Speaker 7 (19:08):
Me, Well, you can sign up as an individual golfer
or a team typically, you know, each year we typically
get the same teams back. You know, companies will center
uh their team sponsorship or the same group of guys
you know wanting to win yeah together.
Speaker 8 (19:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (19:21):
So, but you can sign up either way as an
individual golfer and will place you on the team uh
with that have open available spots, or if you have
your own team, you can sign up.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
So you've been doing this for a while.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
Yeah, this would be our fourth year.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Oh good, good good.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
That's you know when you look at his golf bag, right,
of course he's he's he's a capital so and and so.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
He's like the bell ringer. So that's not to cut
you off, but just saying that. Jay, this past weekend, uh,
one of Stan's youngest son just became.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
A to see, right, we were at a wedding together.
Speaker 5 (20:03):
Oh wow wow, yes, I mean, so he he got
a lot of movement going on because you know the brothers,
his brothers, you know, they some of them are listening
out there right now, and you have got to support
this brother you know, and he plays a major role
with them as well, you know, with the capitals. So
I mean, I think, you know, we don't have to
(20:23):
figure out one plus one equals two when it comes
to that. So I want to challenge his brothers that
are out there, some of them we don't say tiger woods,
We're gonna say tiger hoods, okay. So I want to
challenge those brothers that that are his brother and I
know they support each other, so I want to challenge
them and even if they're not listening, that somebody here
(20:45):
that knows some capitals and you know those brothers. So
I want you to tell them as well that their
brother is having this great event this weekend. So we
want to we want to tap that source that he's
already attached to.
Speaker 6 (20:58):
And and I mean I think it's is gonna be awesome.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
But Drew even better than that.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
Jay, let's challenge all those brothers in the Divine Yes.
Speaker 6 (21:07):
All the Divine Hey, that's Q.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
Yeah, you know the Sigmas. Yes, come on, come on out.
Speaker 6 (21:14):
Okay, that's what we need.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
That's what you need. You know you need the folks
from the Divine nine.
Speaker 6 (21:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
Now let me ask this question, Jay, you don't discriminate.
Can women come out? They know how to puy?
Speaker 3 (21:24):
Of course?
Speaker 4 (21:26):
Of course, because you know we have a lot of
ladies who play golf.
Speaker 5 (21:29):
And play it well, yeah, I've seen them over at
the Lincoln, have you. I said, I told Vincent, I said, Vince,
I don't think. I don't think I want to get
out there, man, because that lady hit that ball way
better than me.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
So so ladies are welcome, yes, So do we're putting
it out Divine nine, come on, support.
Speaker 6 (21:47):
Come on and support this Grady event.
Speaker 5 (21:51):
And and you know, I think I think what's going
to eventually happen because Jay is not going to start
building the legacy.
Speaker 6 (21:57):
I think what's going to end up happening is is
we're going to.
Speaker 5 (21:59):
Probably we have all of the Divine Nine involved in
this fundraiser every single year, because I mean, because it
has so much purpose behind it, you know. And then
not only that, but we need them. We need them
to support, you know, just like this situation going on
with the Smithsonian and they decided they were going to
stand up, you know, and they have a lot of
(22:21):
power and authority in our communities and we need them,
you know. So to all of the Divine Nine, yes,
I want to challenge each one of you all to
come out and support this event.
Speaker 6 (22:33):
And once you come out this year, then we're going.
Speaker 5 (22:35):
To see them every year. I'm just gonna speak that
into existence right now, you know. So, and that is
the reason the purpose of us wanted to even come
on your show, because we know they listen to you well.
Speaker 4 (22:46):
But more more importantly, Drew.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Not only that, but I think that this is an
important event. Yes, and this brother is trying to raise
money to help young folks go to school, right you know,
that's the main part because you said Drew with the
climate now and who we have in the White House.
Oh yeah, you know they want to shut there. You
(23:10):
know it's bad. And Jay, what he wants to shut
down Harvard?
Speaker 8 (23:15):
Right?
Speaker 6 (23:15):
Right?
Speaker 4 (23:17):
Harvard?
Speaker 2 (23:17):
Yes, Now, think about what he would think about HBC.
Speaker 10 (23:21):
Right.
Speaker 6 (23:22):
You can't make that stuff up. I mean, honestly, you
can't make it up.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
But what we have to come to the realization is
that that we are in a time and place in
space and society now to whereas if we don't get
up and do something, then you know something, they're gonna
fall straight and then we're gonna be trying to figure
out later what are we're gonna do. So no, this
and having the opportunities to be able to create these
platforms and to be on these platforms, that makes a
(23:50):
difference in our community, for sure, it does.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
So, Jay, our listeners, This Saturday is the tournament, Yes,
kicking off at eight o'clock.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
The eight am T time.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
Are you gonna have good I think? I hope you
have good weather.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
I think it's good weather again, I checked it, you
are checked it looking pretty good?
Speaker 6 (24:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (24:07):
Yeah, so eight am, eight am.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
Tell tell our listeners again what they need to do
if they come over, say if they don't.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Go to the website.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
And this is you know, I think I'm gonna go
play some golf today and I'm gonna go over there.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
I heard this brother on the radio.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
That's okay, that's fine, that's fine. We're welcome. We're prepared
to receive them as they come in.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
Okay at eight am, eight am they register then.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
Yes, registration starts at seven okay.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
And make sure you make sure you say that, y'all
because you know, but we.
Speaker 4 (24:38):
Time years mail seven o'clock registration.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
Yeah, eight am, T time, we'll be teeing off eight
eight am.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
Okay. So, Jay, how long you been playing golf? Off
and on?
Speaker 3 (24:50):
Probably not twelve years?
Speaker 2 (24:52):
It was it was a sport that you were interested in.
Somebody encouraged you. So how did you get interest? Well?
Speaker 3 (25:01):
What the interesting part is that's how business gets done.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
So well you know what, Well, I know, brother, you
read my I was gonna say that because my best
friend who is a businessman and and and he's he
always tells me and he plays golf, he says, bib
I made a lot of deals on the golf course,
he said, he said, and he became a million. Anyway,
(25:25):
he said, I made a lot of deals on that
golf course.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
That's what the business is done. So you want you
want to learn, you want to learn learn how to
play golf. You learn how to play golf.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Because I always thought through wait a minute, now, Jay,
this is me. I always thought golf threw was a
boring sport.
Speaker 4 (25:44):
I don't know why. I just because it just looked
up and hitting the body, go walk. I just that's boring.
Speaker 7 (25:49):
That's addictive. I had a couple of my partners, one
of my friends, he's played basketball overseas. He played last
year for the first time. He's looking forward to, of course,
you know, playing again this year in between. So yeah,
it's addictive. You know, once it gets going, it's a
it's a it's a competitive sport because you're playing against yourself,
because you're playing against the course.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
I didn't understand.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
Okay, help me out a little bit because I didn't understand.
I thought you were playing against another person.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
I've never heard that.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
You're playing against the course. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (26:22):
Yeah, you know, getting that ball up there on the green,
you know you need to get it, you strokes where
you need to get it at So it's not so
much I guess a person the other people you're playing
against them, but you're really playing against the course.
Speaker 5 (26:34):
The golf course basically challenges you and on your technique
and your ways of being able to strategically get that
ball in the hole.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
Wow, wow, I didn't.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
So I'm gonnat you say it because I'm thinking because
when I see God, I see these other people, I said, well,
they're playing against them.
Speaker 7 (26:54):
No, the court, of course, because that guy's swing is
this way, that guy's put is this way. But it's
your ability that's gonna minimize you and your number of strokes,
you know what I'm saying, to get that ball in
the hole faster than him or better than him.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
So you're playing against the course, not so much playing
against him.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
Wow, thank you for that. We learned something, Yes we did.
Speaker 6 (27:15):
They say you learn something new every day.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
I say that every day, Drew, we learned something new
because I was always wondering. Maybe I should have asked
Drew a question, what is this game of golf?
Speaker 4 (27:27):
But I didn't know that. Wow.
Speaker 5 (27:32):
And that's something because what I think back of several
brothers that I know play golf, and they be they're
greedy to whereas man.
Speaker 6 (27:40):
You know, I got to get my game up.
Speaker 5 (27:42):
I've heard that before because I'm playing against myself more
than I'm playing against somebody else. So I got to
get my game up, you know. You know, maybe I
need to get more a little bit more into golf.
I like challenges within myself. So that's you know, maybe
I'm playing something this weekend. They gonna give me a
couple of training classes.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
Okay, good?
Speaker 2 (27:59):
And I was gonna ask you about that because I
know more and more young people are getting into golf.
Do you know people who give lessons or they can
help out or or do they do that over at
Pine Hill? I don't know if they they used to.
They used to have golf for young people over there
at Pine Hill.
Speaker 7 (28:15):
I think they still do. I think they had something
going on with the first t I want. Okay good
when I was.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
There, good yeah, good. So I know the place Jay
has been renovated.
Speaker 7 (28:25):
It's oh yeah, yeah, it's beautiful. Now they turn the
whole way, so your interest is on a different end according.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
To the course.
Speaker 7 (28:31):
That's where they put the clubhouse now totally redone. I
mean it's I'm not wow.
Speaker 6 (28:36):
It looks good, right, right, I had never I lived
in South Memphis all my life.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Well, I knew about south Man, but I knew about
Pine Hill, but I know I didn't know they had
a golf course there.
Speaker 6 (28:48):
It is nice.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
I mean I to be from South Memphis and to
be there, you know, and hooking up with Jay and
Miss Jackie and to see the golf course, and I said, man,
this is nice.
Speaker 6 (29:01):
So it's it's it's definitely a great.
Speaker 5 (29:04):
Environment to create a great event, particularly because it's in
South Memphis and it's so nice when you get inside
those gates, you like you at the country club.
Speaker 6 (29:14):
Basically, it's that nice.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
It is.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
It's nice. So we want y'all listening, you golfers out there.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
I have a lot of church members who play golf,
and so I hope they're listening in and get them
in there, Andrew, so so it could be you know,
so the main thing you are, I know, it's fun
playing golf, Jake, but you're trying to raise.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
Some money for the Mary E.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Demp Scholarship Fund to help y'all to send some of
our kids to school.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
Right, that's a positive thing. We want them to get
an education.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
We want them to go to school, and I and me,
I would hope they would choose an HBCU. I know
they I know they go to other places because they
get money and stuff. And see that's that's why you're helping.
So because a lot of our students, and think about it,
Jay and Drew, we have an hbc you here lamon
(30:09):
On College.
Speaker 6 (30:10):
Yes, that just that's just the de inauguration for the
new president.
Speaker 5 (30:15):
To David, Yeah, that that is totally different mindset when
you when you hear him, he has you know, he said,
he said.
Speaker 6 (30:24):
I worked for any name, I don't remember how many.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
He said, he worked in board of direct he worked
for the stats. Yeah, that's his bosses.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
Said, the student is his boss.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
I love doct Christipher and he has a vision for Lemon,
you know, to do better. But because and and and
that's why, even though you know that's not my school,
but I support them because HBCU and j my my
dad and my aunt they were graduates of Lemon.
Speaker 6 (30:54):
College.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
So you know, we support We have this little this
school here that has brought up a lot of d folks.
Speaker 7 (31:01):
Yes, yes, with one big happy family. I had the
opportunity to meet doctor Davis did you.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
He's a good brother here, but he has a vision
what he I love what he's putting out.
Speaker 5 (31:12):
I've never heard you know that I can remember in
the way that he put it, and you can tell
he was so sincere, you know.
Speaker 6 (31:20):
And I mean, and that is something I mean, and
you're right, that is.
Speaker 5 (31:23):
The HBCU here, you know, and I and I know
ultimately the goal is to to get as much involvement
as possible since their local you know, you know, we
doctor David, he's ready to so I'm he's gonna say, yeah, man,
we could be a part of that. I mean, it's
it's just really just a great thing when you look
at it overall. And I don't know, we didn't mention this.
(31:44):
I didn't ask Jadis, but I guess because we already
and people listening. In regards to the general public, I mean,
is there addition fees for the general public to actually
come out?
Speaker 4 (31:53):
They just want to watch, They want.
Speaker 6 (31:55):

Speaker 2 (32:08):
Have you thought about, Jay, besides doing this Scoff Classic,
any other fundraisers.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
We talked about that maybe during the weekend of it,
you know, maybe you know you know what.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
Brother when and just we used to do that with Lemonon.
We had the Hank Aaron God, it was a weekend
thing and and money was going it was helping out Lamon. Yes,
so we would be great.
Speaker 7 (32:36):

Speaker 3 (38:31):
Seven am.
Speaker 4 (38:32):
Okay, and kickoff. They don't call it kickoff? What do
you call it a golf turn time?
Speaker 6 (38:38):

Am, we have learned that.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
They go.
Speaker 4 (38:41):

Speaker 4 (39:09):
Sounds good, sounds good. I want to go back.
Speaker 2 (39:11):
This is not pertaining to golf, but I got interested
when you said you you're that investigating you're a private investigator.
Speaker 6 (39:19):
Yes, I was just saying I was like a private investigator.
That's why I guess you already know about me then, right?
Speaker 2 (39:28):
You know what I asked him that, and and and
and Drew, because keep I keep looking at him because
you know who he reminds me of shaft Richard brown Tree.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
No, but chef was he was my idol mind to.
Speaker 4 (39:45):
What got that?
Speaker 2 (39:47):
Just like that, because that's why I was looking at
he said, And I kept thinking, I said that, Do
I need to ask him about being a private investigator?
Speaker 4 (39:55):
I like that?
Speaker 6 (39:56):
And then a whole different show.
Speaker 4 (39:59):
Yeah that come back and talk about investigation. Would you
do that?
Speaker 6 (40:02):
It would be good?
Speaker 4 (40:03):
And I thought, I'm looking at him. You kind of
remind me of Richard brown Tree. Then I'm saying, that's
shaff right.
Speaker 5 (40:08):
Yeah, I loved me some and that's something you would
ask him that because you know we were in there
talking to the one earlier and he was talking about
basically what he do. Yeah, and I think that is
something that probably would make another show because sure it
would a lot.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
Of people don't know because because they would make another
show because you think how many black folks are private investigators.
Speaker 6 (40:29):
That's true.
Speaker 3 (40:29):
We're the largest minority phone firm in the state.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
Drew, We're going to get him back to Yeah, we'll
put it together. Yes, Okay, okay, so let me say this.
