Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, Thank you for listening to Community Access. My
guest this morning is Michael Sable, a partner at Mahoney Sable.
Good morning, How are you very well? Allison, so happy
you could be here to talk about the Mahoney Sable
five k.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Well, this is our nice annual event other than some
COVID disruption. This is in conjunction with Travelers Championship and
it's a five k with the proceeds all going to
benefit the neuro Muscular Care Center at the Hospital for
Special Care. The Hospital for Special Care is the fourth
(00:34):
largest freestanding long term acute care hospital in the United
States and one of only two in the nation serving
both adults and children. So they have been the primary
or the only recipient of the proceeds for the last
nine years and we're thrilled to do it again this year.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Oh that's so wonderful. So what time should people come
that day and where's everything happening.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
It's at TPC and Cromwell. The race and all the
fun is an area called the first Tee, which is
a little bit to the left of the golf course
where the practice ranges. For anyone who's not sure and
you want to get there early because there's always a
lot to do if you have young children or young
you're bringing small kids. There's face painting and rock climbing
(01:23):
and all kinds of balloons and things like that. Coffee
we have a new coffee vendor who'll be serving coffee
and there'll be some breakfast items and gives you an
opportunity to limber up and listen to some music and
get ready for the event. There's also an event for kids,
a short race at the beginning, and then the five
(01:43):
k goes along on the outside of TPC the golf course,
so it's a beautiful course. They've rearranged a little bit
to make it less hilly, so it's pretty flat. And
on top of all that, there's a one mile walk
for those of us who might not partake.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
In the five k, And if you'd like to volunteer
or if you would like to donate, you can go
to Hartford Marathon dot com and get more information there
as well.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Correct Hartford Marathon manages the entire process. They have tons
of volunteers, they're pros. They do this every weekend, and
of course we have representatives from iHeart Music as well.
The DJ has been doing this for years and he's
a pro at that as well. So the event's wonderful
and one of the key things. And I'm not a runner,
(02:32):
but is the post race event.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
I was going to ask you about that.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Yeah, some wonderful vendors each year. Blue Chip Creamery out
of Glastonbury, wonderful ice cream, Crispy Melt is a truck
that serves grill cheese sandwiches literally farms. You may know
them from your local market. They provide us with salads
that are Caesar salads and various salads with dressing and
all the accoutrements. Urban Lodge will be the brewing company
(03:02):
serving beer and Seven Brew is a relatively new expanding
coffee shop here in the area and they will be
serving coffee. So just a fantastic group of folks who
are there each year, and the food's going to be delicious.
Come on down, bring your family, bring your friends, bring anybody,
(03:26):
and it'll be a fun time. And it is that
you don't have to be a runner. There's a little
walk and it goes in a little loop, so if
you get tired halfway in the walk, you turn around
and you go back. So but it's going to be
a wonderful day, as it's been every year since we
began in twenty sixteen, and it's.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
A beautiful place to walk.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
You really will have a nice race, have a fun time.
There's prizes given away, and then you can eat until
your heart's content.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Is there still time to register?
Speaker 2 (03:55):
You can register right up until that morning. Would I
don't know this for a fact, but may even be
able to show up and register, But certainly you can
register online. We've not never hit any kind of a limit,
so undoubtedly you can join at any point in time.
It's very simple to register online. And then when you
get there in the morning, if you want to get
(04:15):
there early enough, get your bib that has a little
chip in it so that it keeps track of your time.
And of course there'll be a goodie bag with different
pieces in there from other vendors, a T shirt and
things like that, so you want to get all that
put away in your car before you start the race. Again,
it's a wonderful time each year. There's just a lot
(04:36):
of joy. There will be speakers from the hospital from
a medical perspective, from a management perspective, and from a
patient perspective, and I will tell you that anyone who
listens to the patient perspective and here's what the hospital
is doing for them and their families, will know that
they've really spent a worthwhile morning and that the amount
(04:59):
of proceed from their registration and or donations are certainly
going to a great cause.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Wonderful. I'm speaking with Michael Sable, partner at Mahoney Sable.
