Double Reel Film Podcast

Double Reel Film Podcast

The monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd. James Adamson is a slightly obsessive armchair fan, giving you his take on the world of cinema. So are his co hosts: James Adamson, his imaginatively named son, and Alan Bayles, a sci fi author, fellow film nerd and fellow Sunderland fan. As well as a look at news, new releases and how we’re fitting in movie watching with our busy exciting lives, we look into classic films we haven't seen yet and overlooked hidden gems you need to see, ask remakes to justify their existence or be wiped from history and offer parole hearings to bad films that need to be remade to fix their flaws.

We compare the competing comic book films Fantastic Four First Steps and Superman, plus new releases Naked Gun, Bring Her Back, War of the Worlds and Happy Gilmore 2. For our projects Alan ticks off another great Hitchcock fil...

We finish up Issue 63 of the monthly magazine podcast for the discerning film nerd with a Spotlight episode. We're talking about the great Steven Spielberg, but focusing on two of his less-celebrated films which we both love. Duel was the film that broke him out of his TV job into his illustrious career as a film director, and A.I. is the project he inherited from Stanley Kubrick and which time has proven to be one of his best.

Then up for parole: should the notoriously inaccurate U-571 be remade as a film that tells the story of what really happened to the German U B...

The final part of Issue 61 is a special Spotlight episode focusing on the films of Denis Villeneuve. Returning guest host Calum joins us to examine how this rather understated French Canadian filmmaker has quietly built up arguably the best filmography of the last 15 years. Films like Sicario, Arrival and the two Dune films show his ability to do things few other directors can, and we want to find out how he's done it. We pay parti...
