Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, Nick Ferguson, Grant Smith here with you five six

(00:02):
six nine zero is the text line, Big show, Tony.
We've got Rick Gloss join us six thirty. We'll ask
him what the funk is going on? Funk yep, Ryan
Blackburn seven thirty five, get a chance to talk to him.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
The NFL six Pack Course eight.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Thirty five Rockies bounced back seven to two win over
the Brewers after getting brutally beaten last night seventeen to two.
Uh The question I asked Dave Logan and the the
last show, same question, I'll ask you, Nick Ferguson, who
I believe was out at the ballpark today sitting in.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
The nice seats, you know the ones you can put
your feet up there on the on the rail.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
You know what I'm talking about.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
You can put your feet up, but it's not recommended.
I did. I put my feet up on there. Took
pictures and everything, of course you did, because you know whatever.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
They're good seats, they're fun seats, but you don't have.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
To put your feet up like you put it on
an autumn and tied at your house. That's what it's
there for.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
Well, I had so much space in front of me
that I could put my feet up too.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
They can get you the good seats, man, I've been
all right. Makes they're awesome. Yes, you know ice creams?

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Did you get while you're down there on the front
row the over Yes, whatever number you say.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
So they made they made.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Me stop because like I was giving him, I would
get them and then I would go give them to
the people that were sitting in the seats that supposed
to know. But I'm you know me, So I was
trying to have some fun with it with the crowd.
You're the one guy that ruined it for everyone. The
former governor was there sitting in the seat behind me.
He was helping me out there when Doug was there,
Like you're all just sitting there like give it out
to you know, give it out the ice creams and
stuff like.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
I just having fun with it, man.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
So you're supposed to do when your dead, when you're
down and you're blessed with.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Those kinds of seats, you're supposed to have fun with it. Well,
you know.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
And now, after further thinking about what I just said
about Ben candy out free ice cream, I just thought
that this was a nice gesture for Ben based on
how the people look at him.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Yeah, just kind of getting them to come to his side.

Speaker 4 (01:52):
Yes, revitalizing his image.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Yes, I'm literally ice cream.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
You don't even want into giving out free iceb you
probably thanks for the brownie, for the brownies.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
I haven't got a chance to get ano those yet,
but I will. Oh, you know me, I love my
my sweets. You could probably tell just by you know,
looking at the shirts swim where they fit and where
they don't.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Five six sixth nimes.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
There's a text like guys looking forward to chat with
you here. I want to get into a little bit
of the nuggets here in just a minute. But you
were down there at the Rockies game. What was the
atmosphere like, I.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Mean it was great, and uh there was there were
two older guys who was sitting two seats down for me,
and they were like soft heckling the umpire because it's the.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Third base of the home plate with the whole play,
because the hole you're right there by home and.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
It was it was a home plate umpire.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
And there was a moment where when you say, Ryan
Felton was throwing a lot of balls, not strikes, and
two gentlemen next to me told the umpire stand up
so he can actually see the strikes.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
That was probably dealing Doug. Do you know what trash
talker down there?

Speaker 3 (03:04):
He does?

Speaker 2 (03:04):
He sits right there. So so they were letting him
have it.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
But it was great because during the break the umb
probably came over. They had a nice discussion and he
told him, you know what, all jokes aside, you're doing
a great job. And the first thing I thought going
back to my NFL days was that for me, there
were a lot of guys who yelled the scream that
officials and the worst thing you can do is that
because they are people and if you if you want
the strikes call, they're not going to call there.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Yeah, you're irritating, You're probably not going to swing your way.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
You gotta get him an ice cream with a little
bit in the mini helmet.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Yes, So it was great and it was great to
see felt and gett himself out of a jam because
you video that was a clutch strikeout video. It was
a clutch strikeout and and Bud Black said that he
was dealing, you know, phone was dealing.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
With the flu man. Yes, so so.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Michael Jornson, you were you were exposed all that you
stay over there.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
No no, no, no, no, no, no. Felton was on
the mounds. I was so fall away from you were
within the vicinity.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
No, basic God, where are you ready to talk about that?
That that you were the same zip code with somebody
with the flu, that McDonald's and mom do system.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Don't forget the Brownies, No, but all juxta aside.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
This was a great way for Black of the Rockies
to actually bounce back.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
And the one thing that I was happy to see is.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
That we've seen Felton getting himself.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
In the jam and unable to get out of it.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
And we've also seen the Rockies this season with the
pitching was great, the defense, but then the bats were
not there. But Brentan Doyle showed up today and just
kind of really builed him out. I think he had
about five RBIs of yes. I mean to get that
type of production. Because before I even got in, I

(04:51):
just heard her roar of the crowd and I was like,
what happened? What happened?

Speaker 2 (04:54):
And its like you didn't even get there for the
No I was.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
I was walking in with my son and I just
heard the crowd, Yeah, say I wake up too late,
and I was trying to figure out what was going
on and then to get a leadoff Homer to start
things off.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
To me, that's exactly the way that you want to. Uh.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
I mean, things don't get easier for the Rockies from
here on out, but I mean after losing seventeen to two,
to bounce back like this, this says a lot about
their resilience.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
I was at that game last night too, and man,
was that a tough one to sit through.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Well, now we figured out who the Jinks is. Hey,
I was there today too, and they won. I just
got to find the right hat.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
It's the power of the third Maybe one of those
hats too, that's what you need. Yeah, I gotta gets
you one. Actually, you know what, you probably could. I
tried to pull one of those off. It was like
eight nine years ago. I don't know if you watched
the Brooklyn nine nine where Hole comes in with.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
The red hat.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
He watched everybody's looking at him insane and he gets
to the day.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
It didn't work. That's how you found it, Well, felt
the Derby the Derby hat.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Well, they either they called him like Derby's or they
call them like like newsboys or something like that.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
It reminds me of peaky blinders.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yes, that's what I get a lot because I love
these hats. My mother was actually asking me about one
of these today as I was telling about it. But yeah,
we may have to get you one grant.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Yes, news boys, Yes, I'd rock one. Just saying this
is it looks good on you, does not look right
on me.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
I even tried, like I tried the backwards look like
the Sam Jackson you know, the backwards did not look
good either.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
I would love to see.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
I'm like, I bought this Sagama factor. It did not
work for me.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Like Bruce arians he is a huge like kingo.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Yeah, they like that's that's like, oh oh my daddy
back in the day style of hat.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
So yes, I did didn't look good forward, didn't look
good backward.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
I'm just sitting here like, wow, I wasted this money.
That's fantastic. You're gonna have to do something with that
hairline going away.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
That's uh, that's it's it's terrif to find a hat
that works for you know what. The one thing that
did work for me I can't wear anymore because it's stee.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Bag central Fedora.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Yes, the one thing that wanted to com The problem
was I had to stop wear it because that show.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Came on TV with the guy h The coy was
the name of the show White Collar with Matt Bomart.
He had, you know, a sudden we became a thing.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
And I'm like, okay, now I have to stop weard
it because everybody's thinking I'm maping that guy's look.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Well, you can ask Tim Jennings for another hat.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Tim jenkinsy eye and uh, and I do. I'd like
to have one that's not khaki colored. Unnaturally I put
that washed twice and it's still tan. Was that by
every day wearing tear?

Speaker 5 (07:27):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Really? It was a white hat when I got it.
That was It was a pristine white hat when it
was gifted to me. It is the color point it's
a champagne.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
I don't know what the tone is here.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
But and then I put it through the dishwasher to
wash the Yeah, it's who puts the head in the dishwash.
That's how you wash them.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
You putting the uper wreck ver band the bill and
he put me up a wreck. No no, no, there's
a plastic form. Heck, you get those things. But you
can you shoot a tennis oil, a rubber band. No,
you know any kind of dishwasher, Yeah, the top rack
of the dishwasher. I won't be eating at Ben's house
anytime soon.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
No, he's not cooking anything anyway. You don't clean it.
This washer. I don't even use it. This dishwasher clean itself.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
Yeah, you got a cycle there you used to clean dishwasher.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
I don't use the dishwasher. I don't use the microwave.
See how I washed my hats as in the shower?
What do you Cramer? This was a good combat. He's like,
I'm just.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Gonna wash my hair, said there like shove it taking
a shower.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Yeah, you wear it in the shower. Hair get well,
you also wash your hair.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
You take off the hat to do that, but it
also makes it fit your head perfectly.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
I've never ever heard anyone say that they washed the
hat in the shower.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Never. Never. Well, now you know, what do you do
you use? You just use regular shampood, No, like dish soap. No,
I can't do it. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
This is this is this Like the only weird hat
thing I've ever done was when I was in the
army and we switched to berets, and you wanted to
keep that perfect shape so it didn't look like the
you know, chef boy already pizza hat. You wanted to
keep that tight shape. So I would take this little
mister bottle and I would like sprints it with water,
put it on my head, form fitted, and then I
would put it in the freezer so that it would
the water would literally freeze the shape.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Hold on. So when I go out there in the
morning for formation. This definitely thanks for that grant.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
This definitely seems like an episode, an off Broadway episode
of side Fel. We got Gretton's washing his hat in
the shower right with dish ross and liquid or whatever.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
You sprintzing your your brain, Yeah, I just thinking it
in the freezing. Yeah, so you would freeze in the
perfect shape. So when you go out there for for
formation in the morning and they do it inspection, like,
I got a perfectly shape array and I'm not gonna.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Gig me on it.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
I also use butter to sun tan with what no,
oh my god.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
I was like, if you like the smell like baked cigarette.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
Yeah, Ben would be trying to eat me, Like le'd
be sitting there.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
There with the tuglet you start looking like a half
chicken money like, turn it.

Speaker 4 (10:04):
Into a mcdouble over here, froll pack of tacos.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Oh my god, I've already hit the loopy thirteen minutes
in what was that nose? Brownies?

Speaker 5 (10:14):
Nick?

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Yeah, wait a minute, what the hey, I've got the
brownies from the Rockies game.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
So I can't be here with the counter before. What's
happening right now? But somebody trying to slip you at Mickey.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
Maybe that's how they keep us entertain during the seventeen.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
You know, brownies down her core field.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
Oh those brownie's whoa five six, six, nine.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
Zeros and sex line My goodness. Yeah, this was the thing.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
So I wore the fedora for a while.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
It was like, oh seven maybe to maybe earlier than that,
maybe six, I'm not sure.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
I had that for for a while. That was kind
of my look. And then all of a sudden that
show came on and I was like, I, oh, wow, yeah,
I have to stop doing this.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
Right, you don't have to stop.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
But everybody's thinking I'm copying the guy from TV.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Who cares what people think about?

Speaker 3 (10:56):
When people think Nick, yeah, I can't do are you
really do care, You really do care.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
I care to people, and I don't care anymore anymore.
I don't know where sweatpants and I did a T
shirt anymore.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
But I used to. I used to.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Care quite a bit. In fact, back then, it wasn't
black V neck T shirts. It was white V neck
T shirts. I'm gonna say, wow, what the it was
the deeper V, the way deeper V.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
I think those black V neck T shirts or if
I'm going to pass life as well off that right down.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
Before, I look like I started calling myself butter Bean
the whale right now? Oh, I mean it's it's but
I mean that was the thing that I just can't
pull off.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
Some hats I can't pull up. I can pull off
the baseball cap, but I can't pull off the cat hat.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
Man.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
I can't pull off the news point.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
Well you can try, but I can say this. The
Rockies pulled off a victory today, needed victory.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
Do you think Bud Black was on the ropes at all?
Do you think he I mean, if he didn't win
that game and we're not gonna fire him on a
road tripping, but do you do you think he's at all?
Kind of like what happened to Michael Malone. Yeah, we'll
get into but do you think it all Bud Black,
like all of a sudden they might you know, it
might be might be sweating a little bit. I mean,
I kind ofly know simply because you've got all the

(12:11):
young talent.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
They just they brought up being. They brought up dollar.
To me, that indicates we're sticking with the guy.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
But well, by all accounts of what's happening in pro sports,
that doesn't mean Jack squat because even though you know
a team or a skipper in this case, but Black
has a young team, there's some veterans or whatever, but
they're still trying to feel their way through this twenty
twenty five season.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
They don't care.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
It all depends about management, the level of pressure, and
have their perspective absolutely changed. Look, we've seen examples of
this in pro sports all the time. Well, Steve Wilkes
took over for the Arizona car News. He had Josh
Rosen as his rookie quarterback and even though he only
had one year, I mean they fired him after that.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
You know, I think it was David Kelly was with
the David Kelly got fired one year back.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
So it goes back to ownership and who ownership.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Is actually listening to.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Because the one thing you know, they always say, especially
with professional football, if you start listening to the fan base,
you're gonna be you going to find yourself sitting where
they are, right. So it all depends on the ownership,
the risk, excuse me, the.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Risk that they want to take.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
And in this particular situation, I don't know if the
Momfords are looking at the situation and the same way
the Nuggets are, But I'm happy that the Rockies got
to win and Felting was able to kind of settle
settle himself down and they were able to get to
win to see to see if this victory actually pushes

(13:53):
them forward. Let's see tough road trip coming up for him.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
But as always all Colorado Rockies Baseball right here on KOA,
you and I have not had a chance to talk
about the Michael Malone situation with us Nuggets, right We
tried to tip the listeners off right before it happened,
but we had a chance to talk to it post
had We actually did two sayings of that, because we
did the one right before and then we did the
one the week before as well, trying to sort of
hint about what was coming. Calvin booth out contract not renewed,

(14:20):
Michael Malone fired, David Adelman comes in. Is the interim
He did win the first game, of course last night,
and you know, Dave Logan and I were talking about
that earlier. They were playing with a renewed sense of energy. Now,
whether that's the interim head coach bump, you know that
you kind of get that rally around yourselves sort of scenario,
whether that's a reflection of what's going forward. They looked

(14:41):
energized with Aleb Pickett at the point guard there and
man one to night he had five to seven from
three points, I had like eighteen points on the game.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
What do you think of the new look Nuggets?

Speaker 1 (14:52):
What do you think about the Nuggets moving on from
Michael Malone? And did he maybe earn coaching out the
string based on what he's done in Denver?

Speaker 3 (15:02):
You know, I say I would say yes, but I'm
not the owner of the Denver Nuggets, so I feel
a little indifferent to it. As far as the guys
going out there have being somewhat of a better showing,
I got to take that with a grain of salt.
And the reason why I take it by with the
grain of salt because I look at the team that
they were playing. They played the sacrament of Kings, who

(15:24):
are in ninth place, and this is a team that
scores one sixteen and they give up one fifty.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
So to Washington.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
Nuggets go out and play well against them. That was
expected because usually when no matter what the sport is,
when your head coach gets fired, a lot of guys
get to really energize, right And you may say, okay,
well that you're getting that emotional bump because they want
to go out there and win for a coach who's
no longer employed by the team. But also they realize,

(15:55):
especially in this case with the Denver Nuggets, or you
are playing for jobs, so you want to make sure
that you go out and you perform well.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
So I'm not going to say that.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
This victory over Sacramento somewhat changes my mind about the
situation it self and how Michael Malone was fired.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
But here's what I here's how I look at it.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
Been from a guy that was a professional athlete, how
I would have looked at this being in the locker room.
Any guy who chose last night to elevate their level
of play after your head coach were fired. It was fired.
That tells me a lot about you as an individual.
You could have played the same way over the last

(16:37):
eight games, So it took for that to happen for
you to get a wake up call. And yeah, you
can say, well, the Nuggets threw Jalen push it in
the and I think that was some of the discrepancy.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
Between Malone and Booth.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Malone wanted to play Westbrook because he's always in favor
of veterans. Booths wanted to go more towards the youth
movement and put Jalen you know it in there. Did
Pickett have his moments, Absolutely, Could he developments who being
a decent.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Role player in his league?

Speaker 3 (17:07):
Absolutely, But based on last night, it really doesn't change
my mind about some of those players in that locker
room because if they really wanted to save their head
coaching job, they would have played better down the stretch.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
Mixed bag for the youth move it. Pickett had a
great game, Brawn also had a great game. The backcourt
in general had a great game, but the reserves off
the bench not so much. Bad game for Westbrook five
points in sixteen forty five of plays on two of
eleven from the field, over four from downtown and three turnovers.
Strother and Peyton Watson both went over two from downtown.

(17:40):
Strawther at one point zero for three shooting from the field,
Peyton Watson three or five from the field but over
two from downtown. DeAndre Jordan got ten token minutes in there.
It has six points, five boards. He was productive in
the minutes that he had, also at three blocks, but
you know, it was interesting. It also kind of looked
like Nikola Jokic was more trying to get everyone else
involved than be the guy like he had been for

(18:00):
several games. Yokic finished with twenty points, but five to
twelve shooting only one at ten from three point land
and he did not make that. He did finish with
a triple double, twelve boards, eleven assists and only one turnover.
It felt like he was facilitating and tried to get
them more involved, which it feels to me like is
how you really want this thing to play out. Nikola
Yokis doesn't need to be your highest score. He's capable

(18:21):
of being that, certainly, But if you're going to play
the way that the Nuggets need to play to win,
you got to have guys hitting from the outside. You
got to have Nikola Jokic being the guy that helps
create space for those guys to be wide open.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
We know Nikola Joki is being as though he's a center.
He's a facilitator, right is like you call him a center?
Right Well, the idea of Nicola, like Nicola scorer with
forty one points against the Pacers on Sunday, if I'm
not mistaken, and he understands, just like Kobe did when
Kobe was alive, that when my team is not scoring,

(18:54):
I had to take over the game. So he knows
who he is. Great job on him trying to distribute
to get guys involved. Well, when you look at Michael
porterj and you look at Aaron Gordon, Aaron Old Gordon
only had five points in the game against the Pacers.
He had twenty one last night MPJA had twenty one.
Now you get really excited about that and you think, okay,
well that's the emotional bump. But it's about consistency in

(19:15):
this league. And if you were to tell me that, okay, well,
this is gonna be the spark, this is going to
carry them forward. This is gonna lead them to not
being in the play in and then going on another run.
I'm gonna say, no, they're gonna be competitive, but I
don't see this emotional bump carrying them forward to another championship.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
I don't see it. We'll see.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
I'm I tend be with you. I mean, you got
your work cut out for if you're gonna win a championship.
You got some tough teams to go through. But if
they can win out, it does position them nicely at
least getting Home Court series early to kind of help
get their feet under them. As far as that kind
of stuff goes. We just has to talk about that
more a little bit later. Rick Lewis coming up after
the break. You listen to Broncos Country Night here on Kiawai.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
With the step of your fingers, you can have it
all color Analyst. That never Broncos.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
Rick, How you doing, buddy?

Speaker 5 (20:08):
Hey, guys, what the funk? Let me get this out
of the way real quick. The Tequila Blues Festival at
Red Rocks, we were supposed to play on Sunday got postponed,
slash canceled on Tuesday. No, So yeah, that was that
was like a kick in the nuts when I got
tat news. You know, we were so excited about it.

(20:29):
You prepare, you do mental reps, you rehearse, you know,
just kind of like getting ready for an NFL game, Nick,
and then a couple of days before the game or
a couple of days before the show, they go, you
know what, We're not going to do it now.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
That now, I feel like I've been kicking the Jimmy.
So I don't know, I don't know what to do
with that.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
Rick.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
I'm upset now. But I have been told for sources
that in addition to being a Broncos color analyst, you
are also a Nuggets insider.

Speaker 5 (20:57):
Yeah. I'm going to be your personal Nuggets insider tonight, guys,
because this morning on the show My Morning Show in
the FONX, I was kind of wondering out loud if
coach Malone regretted that Nuggets tattoo that he got after
winning the championship. And I was even saying, you know,
if he does, you know, we'll get a laser removal

(21:20):
company to remove it for free. Because there was a
rumor I think TMZ started it that the tattoo artist
that did the tattoo offered him a cover up, you know,
to cover up the old Nuggets tattoo. Well, that is
not true. I had that tattoo artist on my show
this morning and he told me that is fake news.

(21:42):
He said they never talked about that. Coach Malone never
mentioned that, and he said, I'd be shocked if he
did cover it up because you know, you're basically celebrating
the biggest moment of his coaching career with this little
Nuggets tattoo. Why would he remove it alone. I wanted
to pack that along to you guys.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
Well now we now we know this is breaking news here.

Speaker 5 (22:06):
Uh yeah, this is important stuff.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
You can you can follow along at Rick Lewis NBA
for all your NBA tattoo insider news.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
You know, were you surprised by the Malone firing. We
We've been trying to hit the people on the show
for about a week and a half.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
It was coming. It seems the rest of the town
was kind of taken aback.

Speaker 5 (22:26):
I was surprised that they did it when they did it,
which is three games to go, and it just never
happens in the NBA. But in the fallout and Nick
and I had a little discussion on this on X
the Falloup seems like maybe he lost the locker room.
And if that's the case, and I believe it is

(22:48):
the case, then you got to do what you what
you had to do there, because I think they think
they got a shot at a run this year. In fact,
they said that that they think they can make a
run here in twenty twenty five, but they didn't think
the situation was set up properly with Malone and Booth.

(23:08):
So based on last night, you know, I think fans
like me and maybe you guys have a little more
hope moving forward through the postseason here that maybe they'll
play a little better. It is kind of ironic that Malone,
being a defensive minded coach, his team didn't play defense,
and they played defense last night, and they didn't put

(23:31):
it all on jokers back, and they looked like a
better basketball team. So it'll be interesting to see what
happens series we get in the postseason. But so long
story short, I was surprised they did it when they did,
but looking back now knowing what we know, I'm not
surprised that they did it all.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
Right, So I have to push back a little rick
on that whole idea, because I know a lot of
people are looking at last night's games, Oh, well, they
can't play defense.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
Maybe it was coach Malone. Maybe he did lose the
locker room, right.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
And let's just say that is a part of for
the sake of conversation. What does that, therefore say about
the players in the locker room who decided when they
were with Malone, they did not decide to show effort
and on the defensive end.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
Until last night.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
But also, I'll add this is, by the way, You're right,
coach Malone is a defensive minded coach, but the Nuggets
have defensive coordinators on their roster.

Speaker 2 (24:26):
So if you're going to fire Malone.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
Because the team wasn't playing great defense, what does that
say about the coaches who are currently on the coaching
staff and the players because they didn't come through as well?

Speaker 5 (24:38):
Well, Nick, you know this better than anybody. Coach Malone
was a hard ass coach. And once you lose the
locker room and you're a hard ass coach, and you're
a player making millions of dollars in some cases four
or five, six, ten times more than the coaches make,
and you're probably not going to give a great effort,

(24:59):
and I think that's what happened here. I think the
players just started tuning him out. You know, when you're
making that kind of money and all the money is guaranteed,
you can afford to do that kind of thing. Not
so much in the NFL, of course, because that money's
not guaranteed, most of it anyway. But in the NBA,
where guys take nights off, they don't play hard from

(25:19):
night to night. When you have a problem with the coach,
you're going to pout. You know, that's a fact. So
I think that's what happened. And you be in a
former professional athlete, you know what it's like. I believe
when a coach loses the locker room. The only difference
is in the NFL, unless you're a superstar athlete, you

(25:41):
can't afford to pout. But when you look at the NBA,
almost all these guys are superstar athletes, so they can
get away with it.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
Well. See, that's part of my issue with the Denver
Nuggets locker room. Right, if you're going to say that
a coach lost the locker room, and I pay attention
to them, you're right because play and it's okay.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
Well, why did the coach lose the locker room?

Speaker 3 (26:03):
For me, it's because he said something to a superstar
in the locker room. The superstar didn't like it, so
the superstar went to management to complain about the head coach. So,
because the NBA, unlike the NFL, is more of a
player driven league, that said player or players were allowed
to get that way, get their way. So the way

(26:25):
that I look at it, whomever that player of players were,
they soft as hell. This is coming from a guy
that have been around a lot of coaches. I've been
around Bill Parcels, and if you want a guy who's
really going to grind you and really get after you emotionally,
and I called that accountability, I'm gonna say that some
of the guys on the Nuggets team they soft as hell.

Speaker 5 (26:49):
You know, that's just the way it is in the
NBA because they can afford to be soft. Oh you're
making that kind of money and it's guaranteed. Not everybody
is competitive, even some people are more competitive than others,
and some people are motivated in a different way. And
I agree with you. Yeah, there's definitely some guys on

(27:09):
the team that are soft. But I think you see
that throughout the NBA in many cases because they make
so much freaking money they can afford to do that.
I agree with you, just in a different way. I
don't know if it's coming across that way, but yeah, yeah,
they're soft. You know that. Nick Ferguson would never do that.
Given you one hundred million dollar contract, You're still going

(27:31):
to give it everything you got every night, because that's
how you're wired. These guys aren't wired that way.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
Yeah, some people are compet I'm competitive. I'm a better
am I a better question asker than Nick Ferguson. I
need to know, Rick, I'm that pobs kidding. I'm a
ridiculous person.

Speaker 5 (27:50):
You're insecure. We need to talk about it. We should
talk about this, Yes, exactly, you like I normally do.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Oh I probably needed to. Yeah, we get to the
text line. Rick's coming for Ben's insider Tyle Rick Starret
of got it. Nobody's got NBA tattoo.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
Who's like, we're Luis and telling you see beat me
to the punch show.

Speaker 5 (28:12):
You guys wanted the Nuggets insider, now you got them.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
There.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
I go see this is how we do things right here? Rick,
you do have something else coming up though on nine News, right.

Speaker 5 (28:23):
Yeah, yeah, coincidentally, it had nothing to do with the
Red Rock Show. But my band is performing live on
Channel nine tomorrow morning between ten and eleven. They have
a new show they're premiery tomorrow called Bands and b
where every Friday they're gonna have bands that are coming
through town or comedians that are coming through town performed
live in front of a studio audience. So we're on

(28:45):
the premiere show tomorrow ten to eleven, Channel nine. We're
going to kick off the show with a live original song,
then an interview, then another live original song, and then
we're going to play some bumpers, you know, going in
and out of breaks, you know, like the big Time,
like on the Tonight Show, something like that, except on
a smaller scale. And hopefully they still do hair and

(29:06):
makeup on local TV. Do you guys know if they're
still doing that, because I get up at three fifteen
in the morning. Believe me, I'm gonna need it.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
Well, yeah, I don't know. I don't get on TV
that much. So uh no, they don't.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
Rake, they don't. You have to come already prepared, you
got a face like mixed. They just never do the
makeup anyway. It's it's guys like you and need you know,
the need a little upgrade as to Beyonce would put
it into powder or something.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
Man, Yeah, I don't want to shine. It's off kid.
We'll look forward to that tomorrow. What time I said,
ten am on nine News?

Speaker 5 (29:36):
Yeah, ten am, nine News. Guys. Thanks all right?

Speaker 2 (29:38):
Well Rick Lewis that that is what the funk.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
I appreciate it and we'll be tuning in tomorrow on
nine News to see you live on TV.

Speaker 2 (29:45):
See how that makeup worked out for you.

Speaker 5 (29:47):
All right, guys, always fun, Thanks for having me on.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
Absolutely you missed any part of that.

Speaker 1 (29:55):
You missed anyart of the show, you aways go to
Broncos Country Night, dot com, slash podcast or wherever you
coach your podcast app iTunes, Spotify, the free and redesigned
iHeartRadio app where you could take it forgot a podcast
as well. Yeah, we a little bit of breaking news
there during the traffic break. Denver has lost in double
overtime to Western Michigan a final score of three to

(30:17):
two in the NCAA Men's Frozen four semi final. They
flashed that graphic up there. I thought they'd won and
then I like celebrating and I'm like, wait, where was.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
The shot because they didn't see it. And then immediately.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
Afterwards, Western Michigan comes down and just puts it right
in the right The goal goalie kind of.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
Ducked out of the way of the shot a little bit,
had that central chance to block with.

Speaker 4 (30:35):
His helmet, and only like twenty seconds into the second
over right into double over. This is the second time
that Western Michigan.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
Has beat DU this year.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
Yeah, when you look at the season record, I mean,
now it's a three to one against a DU and
you hate to lose this way, But I have to
say this, fella, I would rather be in a situation
like this where I'm a constant mainstay in a frozen four,
opposed to being so many teams that on the outside

(31:06):
looking in. And when you lose the way that DU laws,
it's heartbreaking. It hurts all the work that you put in.
But I'll say this, this is why you know, most
people don't think the regular season matters at all, but
it does. When you're able to beat a team like
DU during the regular season twice, it gives you the

(31:29):
mental fortitude that, no matter how great the institution was
overall that you can go in and you can beat
them at any time.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
So it was. It was a hell of a game.

Speaker 3 (31:40):
I just feel sorry for those guys, especially those seniors.

Speaker 1 (31:44):
Heartbreaking, man, it's heartbreaking. Yeah, they really taking that loss.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
But to get the crowd right there really giving them
a hand afterwards.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
What a well fought game. Western Michigan really controlled it
most of the game. D You was lucky to claw
back into it forty seven to twenty two.

Speaker 4 (31:57):
Western Michigan outshot du.

Speaker 1 (32:00):
But in the end, Yeah, but I go man, Western
Michigan had somebody slip right through there and just get
a perfect just a perfect beat on that thing and
put put the puck right over the.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Goalie's head and right shoulder and into the net. It
was just, uh, just just so close.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
You got Penn State Boston University set to the square off.
They'll they'll face on uh uh, Western Michigan here for
the championship.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
I don't know about you, guys, but you know I'm
definitely a hockey before. But I'm just thinking from from
the football mentality. Like if I see a guy get
out on a fast breaking transition and he looks like he's.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
Going to score.

Speaker 3 (32:34):
I know it's not sportsmanlike I might trip him. I'm
might just stay on.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
My foot defensive pass interference. When you know you're burned
for a time, are you going up there? You sweeping
the leg? I'm gonna hey, John Cobra Kai, I'm John Creesy.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
Sweet, he's Cobra Kai.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
What's the worst they can do to me? Stick me
in the penalty box?

Speaker 3 (32:51):
That's it, right, But I'm not gonna let a guy
just have one on one on the goalie or just score.
It's like if a guy is in a position where
I think he's gonna catch.

Speaker 2 (32:59):
A bomb over me, I'm exposed to playing. Yeah, I'm true.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
Sweeping the leg Cora Kai. You know what, because it
still gives us four downs. We're trying to me over
here and and yeah, sweep the leg. He's Copra Kai. Wow,
I thought you were the nice guy.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
Nick. I'm supposed to be the villain.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
I'm not saying that I'm a bin. I'm I'm a villain.
I'm just saying I'm just thinking on behalf of my team.
I'm a I'm self sacrificing myself.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
Doing what's best for the team. Yes, I am selflessly
taking a penalty to ma.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
Sure, exactly, because guess what in a football reference that
gives us four downs, That that gives us a chance
to use our red zone defense.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
That's a lot better than being scored on just.

Speaker 1 (33:39):
Saying I was totally hard fouling basketball too. Yes, I
can't ice skate, so I would never be on the thing.
I can't ice skate. Have you ever tried?

Speaker 5 (33:47):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (33:47):
I failed.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
Let me let me put this in terms you understand.
If you ever watch those nature videos where the giraffe
was born born, I look more ridiculous than that.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
Well, grant for the record, Ben, I'm along with you.
I've never been been on a single blade ice skate before.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
Well, I bet if you tried, you could do it.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
We do. We're gonna play one on one hockey, both
of us going out here just flailing all over the place.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
We'll do a little video with David Attenborough narrating.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
Yes, we'll put over the giraffe first steps.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
It'll be it'll be great. Broncos Country to Night continue
