would put it in the freezer so that it would

I got to take that with a grain of salt.

grain of salt because I look at the team that
they were playing. They played the sacrament of Kings, who

Nuggets go out and play well against them. That was
expected because usually when no matter what the sport is,

get to really energize, right And you may say, okay,

no longer employed by the team. But also they realize,

especially in this case with the Denver Nuggets, or you
are playing for jobs, so you want to make sure
that you go out and you perform well.

This victory over Sacramento somewhat changes my mind about the
situation it self and how Michael Malone was fired.

I would have looked at this being in the locker room.
Any guy who chose last night to elevate their level
of play after your head coach were fired. It was fired.

you to get a wake up call. And yeah, you
can say, well, the Nuggets threw Jalen push it in
the and I think that was some of the discrepancy.

Malone wanted to play Westbrook because he's always in favor
of veterans. Booths wanted to go more towards the youth

my mind about some of those players in that locker
room because if they really wanted to save their head
coaching job, they would have played better down the stretch.

in general had a great game, but the reserves off
the bench not so much. Bad game for Westbrook five

It felt like he was facilitating and tried to get

you got to have guys hitting from the outside. You
got to have Nikola Jokic being the guy that helps
create space for those guys to be wide open.

Now you get really excited about that and you think, okay,
well that's the emotional bump. But it's about consistency in

carry them forward. This is gonna lead them to not

I'm gonna say, no, they're gonna be competitive, but I
don't see this emotional bump carrying them forward to another championship.

mentioned that, and he said, I'd be shocked if he
did cover it up because you know, you're basically celebrating
the biggest moment of his coaching career with this little
Nuggets tattoo. Why would he remove it alone. I wanted

You know, were you surprised by the Malone firing. We
We've been trying to hit the people on the show
for about a week and a half.

It was coming. It seems the rest of the town
was kind of taken aback.

I was surprised that they did it when they did it,
which is three games to go, and it just never
happens in the NBA. But in the fallout and Nick
and I had a little discussion on this on X
the Falloup seems like maybe he lost the locker room.
And if that's the case, and I believe it is

the case, then you got to do what you what
you had to do there, because I think they think
they got a shot at a run this year. In fact,
they said that that they think they can make a
run here in twenty twenty five, but they didn't think
the situation was set up properly with Malone and Booth.

So based on last night, you know, I think fans
like me and maybe you guys have a little more
hope moving forward through the postseason here that maybe they'll
play a little better. It is kind of ironic that Malone,
being a defensive minded coach, his team didn't play defense,
and they played defense last night, and they didn't put

it all on jokers back, and they looked like a
better basketball team. So it'll be interesting to see what
happens series we get in the postseason. But so long
story short, I was surprised they did it when they did,
but looking back now knowing what we know, I'm not
surprised that they did it all.

Right, So I have to push back a little rick
on that whole idea, because I know a lot of
people are looking at last night's games, Oh, well, they
can't play defense.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Maybe it was coach Malone. Maybe he did lose the
locker room, right.

And let's just say that is a part of for
the sake of conversation. What does that, therefore say about
the players in the locker room who decided when they
were with Malone, they did not decide to show effort
and on the defensive end.

Until last night.

But also, I'll add this is, by the way, You're right,
coach Malone is a defensive minded coach, but the Nuggets
have defensive coordinators on their roster.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
So if you're going to fire Malone.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Because the team wasn't playing great defense, what does that
say about the coaches who are currently on the coaching
staff and the players because they didn't come through as well?
Speaker 5 (24:38):
Well, Nick, you know this better than anybody. Coach Malone
was a hard ass coach. And once you lose the
locker room and you're a hard ass coach, and you're
a player making millions of dollars in some cases four
or five, six, ten times more than the coaches make,
and you're probably not going to give a great effort,
(24:59):
and I think that's what happened here. I think the
players just started tuning him out. You know, when you're
making that kind of money and all the money is guaranteed,
you can afford to do that kind of thing. Not
so much in the NFL, of course, because that money's
not guaranteed, most of it anyway. But in the NBA,
where guys take nights off, they don't play hard from

night to night. When you have a problem with the coach,
you're going to pout. You know, that's a fact. So
I think that's what happened. And you be in a
former professional athlete, you know what it's like. I believe
when a coach loses the locker room. The only difference
is in the NFL, unless you're a superstar athlete, you

can't afford to pout. But when you look at the NBA,
almost all these guys are superstar athletes, so they can
get away with it.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
Well. See, that's part of my issue with the Denver
Nuggets locker room. Right, if you're going to say that
a coach lost the locker room, and I pay attention
to them, you're right because play and it's okay.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Well, why did the coach lose the locker room?
Speaker 3 (26:03):
For me, it's because he said something to a superstar
in the locker room. The superstar didn't like it, so
the superstar went to management to complain about the head coach. So,
because the NBA, unlike the NFL, is more of a
player driven league, that said player or players were allowed
to get that way, get their way. So the way

that I look at it, whomever that player of players were,
they soft as hell. This is coming from a guy
that have been around a lot of coaches. I've been
around Bill Parcels, and if you want a guy who's
really going to grind you and really get after you emotionally,
and I called that accountability, I'm gonna say that some
of the guys on the Nuggets team they soft as hell.

You know, that's just the way it is in the
NBA because they can afford to be soft. Oh you're
making that kind of money and it's guaranteed. Not everybody
is competitive, even some people are more competitive than others,
and some people are motivated in a different way. And
I agree with you. Yeah, there's definitely some guys on

the team that are soft. But I think you see
that throughout the NBA in many cases because they make
so much freaking money they can afford to do that.
I agree with you, just in a different way. I
don't know if it's coming across that way, but yeah, yeah,
they're soft. You know that. Nick Ferguson would never do that.
Given you one hundred million dollar contract, You're still going

to give it everything you got every night, because that's
how you're wired. These guys aren't wired that way.

it's heartbreaking. It hurts all the work that you put in.

people don't think the regular season matters at all, but
it does. When you're able to beat a team like

mental fortitude that, no matter how great the institution was
overall that you can go in and you can beat
them at any time.

put it on my head, form fitted, and then I
would put it in the freezer so that it would
the water would literally freeze the shape.

It all depends about management, the level of pressure, and
have their perspective absolutely changed. Look, we've seen examples of

had one year, I mean they fired him after that.

So it goes back to ownership and who ownership.

Michael Malone fired, David Adelman comes in. Is the interim
He did win the first game, of course last night,
and you know, Dave Logan and I were talking about
that earlier. They were playing with a renewed sense of energy. Now,
whether that's the interim head coach bump, you know that
you kind of get that rally around yourselves sort of scenario,
whether that's a reflection of what's going forward. They looked

energized with Aleb Pickett at the point guard there and
man one to night he had five to seven from
three points, I had like eighteen points on the game.

What do you think of the new look Nuggets?

What do you think about the Nuggets moving on from
Michael Malone? And did he maybe earn coaching out the
string based on what he's done in Denver?

You know, I say I would say yes, but I'm
not the owner of the Denver Nuggets, so I feel
a little indifferent to it. As far as the guys
going out there have being somewhat of a better showing,
I got to take that with a grain of salt.
And the reason why I take it by with the
grain of salt because I look at the team that
they were playing. They played the sacrament of Kings, who

are in ninth place, and this is a team that
scores one sixteen and they give up one fifty.

So to Washington.

Nuggets go out and play well against them. That was
expected because usually when no matter what the sport is,
when your head coach gets fired, a lot of guys
get to really energize, right And you may say, okay,
well that you're getting that emotional bump because they want
to go out there and win for a coach who's
no longer employed by the team. But also they realize,

especially in this case with the Denver Nuggets, or you
are playing for jobs, so you want to make sure
that you go out and you perform well.

So I'm not going to say that.

This victory over Sacramento somewhat changes my mind about the
situation it self and how Michael Malone was fired.

But here's what I here's how I look at it.

Been from a guy that was a professional athlete, how
I would have looked at this being in the locker room.
Any guy who chose last night to elevate their level
of play after your head coach were fired. It was fired.
That tells me a lot about you as an individual.
You could have played the same way over the last

eight games, So it took for that to happen for
you to get a wake up call. And yeah, you
can say, well, the Nuggets threw Jalen push it in
the and I think that was some of the discrepancy.

Between Malone and Booth.

Malone wanted to play Westbrook because he's always in favor
of veterans. Booths wanted to go more towards the youth
movement and put Jalen you know it in there. Did
Pickett have his moments, Absolutely, Could he developments who being
a decent.

Role player in his league?
Speaker 3 (17:07):
Absolutely, But based on last night, it really doesn't change
my mind about some of those players in that locker
room because if they really wanted to save their head
coaching job, they would have played better down the stretch.

Mixed bag for the youth move it. Pickett had a
great game, Brawn also had a great game. The backcourt
in general had a great game, but the reserves off
the bench not so much. Bad game for Westbrook five
points in sixteen forty five of plays on two of
eleven from the field, over four from downtown and three turnovers.
Strother and Peyton Watson both went over two from downtown.

Strawther at one point zero for three shooting from the field,
Peyton Watson three or five from the field but over
two from downtown. DeAndre Jordan got ten token minutes in there.
It has six points, five boards. He was productive in
the minutes that he had, also at three blocks, but
you know, it was interesting. It also kind of looked
like Nikola Jokic was more trying to get everyone else
involved than be the guy like he had been for

several games. Yokic finished with twenty points, but five to
twelve shooting only one at ten from three point land
and he did not make that. He did finish with
a triple double, twelve boards, eleven assists and only one turnover.
It felt like he was facilitating and tried to get
them more involved, which it feels to me like is
how you really want this thing to play out. Nikola
Yokis doesn't need to be your highest score. He's capable

of being that, certainly, But if you're going to play
the way that the Nuggets need to play to win,
you got to have guys hitting from the outside. You
got to have Nikola Jokic being the guy that helps
create space for those guys to be wide open.

We know Nikola Joki is being as though he's a center.
He's a facilitator, right is like you call him a center?
Right Well, the idea of Nicola, like Nicola scorer with
forty one points against the Pacers on Sunday, if I'm
not mistaken, and he understands, just like Kobe did when
Kobe was alive, that when my team is not scoring,

I had to take over the game. So he knows
who he is. Great job on him trying to distribute
to get guys involved. Well, when you look at Michael
porterj and you look at Aaron Gordon, Aaron Old Gordon
only had five points in the game against the Pacers.
He had twenty one last night MPJA had twenty one.
Now you get really excited about that and you think, okay,
well that's the emotional bump. But it's about consistency in

this league. And if you were to tell me that, okay, well,
this is gonna be the spark, this is going to
carry them forward. This is gonna lead them to not
being in the play in and then going on another run.
I'm gonna say, no, they're gonna be competitive, but I
don't see this emotional bump carrying them forward to another championship.

I'm I tend be with you. I mean, you got
your work cut out for if you're gonna win a championship.
You got some tough teams to go through. But if
they can win out, it does position them nicely at

He said they never talked about that. Coach Malone never
mentioned that, and he said, I'd be shocked if he
did cover it up because you know, you're basically celebrating
the biggest moment of his coaching career with this little
Nuggets tattoo. Why would he remove it alone. I wanted

which is three games to go, and it just never
happens in the NBA. But in the fallout and Nick

the Falloup seems like maybe he lost the locker room.
And if that's the case, and I believe it is

the case, then you got to do what you what
you had to do there, because I think they think
they got a shot at a run this year. In fact,
they said that that they think they can make a
run here in twenty twenty five, but they didn't think
the situation was set up properly with Malone and Booth.

So based on last night, you know, I think fans
like me and maybe you guys have a little more
hope moving forward through the postseason here that maybe they'll
play a little better. It is kind of ironic that Malone,
being a defensive minded coach, his team didn't play defense,
and they played defense last night, and they didn't put

it all on jokers back, and they looked like a
better basketball team. So it'll be interesting to see what
happens series we get in the postseason. But so long
story short, I was surprised they did it when they did,
but looking back now knowing what we know, I'm not
surprised that they did it all.

Right, So I have to push back a little rick
on that whole idea, because I know a lot of
people are looking at last night's games, Oh, well, they
can't play defense.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Maybe it was coach Malone. Maybe he did lose the
locker room, right.

And let's just say that is a part of for
the sake of conversation. What does that, therefore say about
the players in the locker room who decided when they
were with Malone, they did not decide to show effort
and on the defensive end.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Until last night.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
But also, I'll add this is, by the way, You're right,
coach Malone is a defensive minded coach, but the Nuggets
have defensive coordinators on their roster.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
So if you're going to fire Malone.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Because the team wasn't playing great defense, what does that
say about the coaches who are currently on the coaching
staff and the players because they didn't come through as well?
Speaker 5 (24:38):
Well, Nick, you know this better than anybody. Coach Malone
was a hard ass coach. And once you lose the
locker room and you're a hard ass coach, and you're
a player making millions of dollars in some cases four
or five, six, ten times more than the coaches make,
and you're probably not going to give a great effort,
(24:59):
and I think that's what happened here. I think the
players just started tuning him out. You know, when you're
making that kind of money and all the money is guaranteed,
you can afford to do that kind of thing. Not
so much in the NFL, of course, because that money's
not guaranteed, most of it anyway. But in the NBA,
where guys take nights off, they don't play hard from

night to night. When you have a problem with the coach,
you're going to pout. You know, that's a fact. So
I think that's what happened. And you be in a
former professional athlete, you know what it's like. I believe
when a coach loses the locker room. The only difference
is in the NFL, unless you're a superstar athlete, you

can't afford to pout. But when you look at the NBA,
almost all these guys are superstar athletes, so they can
get away with it.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
Well. See, that's part of my issue with the Denver
Nuggets locker room. Right, if you're going to say that
a coach lost the locker room, and I pay attention
to them, you're right because play and it's okay.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Well, why did the coach lose the locker room?
Speaker 3 (26:03):
For me, it's because he said something to a superstar
in the locker room. The superstar didn't like it, so
the superstar went to management to complain about the head coach. So,
because the NBA, unlike the NFL, is more of a
player driven league, that said player or players were allowed
to get that way, get their way. So the way
(26:25):
that I look at it, whomever that player of players were,
they soft as hell. This is coming from a guy
that have been around a lot of coaches. I've been
around Bill Parcels, and if you want a guy who's
really going to grind you and really get after you emotionally,
and I called that accountability, I'm gonna say that some
of the guys on the Nuggets team they soft as hell.
Speaker 5 (26:49):
You know, that's just the way it is in the
NBA because they can afford to be soft. Oh you're
making that kind of money and it's guaranteed. Not everybody
is competitive, even some people are more competitive than others,
and some people are motivated in a different way. And
I agree with you. Yeah, there's definitely some guys on
(27:09):
the team that are soft. But I think you see
that throughout the NBA in many cases because they make
so much freaking money they can afford to do that.
I agree with you, just in a different way. I
don't know if it's coming across that way, but yeah, yeah,
they're soft. You know that. Nick Ferguson would never do that.
Given you one hundred million dollar contract, You're still going

to give it everything you got every night, because that's
how you're wired. These guys aren't wired that way.
