Speaker 1 (00:03):
From major events to local headlines.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
This is Charleston's Morning News on ninety four to three WUSC.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Now back to Kellyan Blaze.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
In today's top stories here at eight five Welcome in.

Speaker 4 (00:18):
President Trump says Ukrainian President Zelensky is making it hard
to settle the war with Russia. In a post on
truth Social Trump said Zelenski saying in the Wall Street
Journal that Ukraine won't recognize Russian occupation of Crimea is
harmful to peace negotiations. The president questioned why Ukraine didn't
fight for the region eleven years ago when Russia took

(00:38):
control with no shots fired. Trump said Zelensky can either
have peace or fight the war for another three years
before losing the country. He added he has nothing to
do with Russia, but instead is trying to stop the
killing of thousands. Meanwhile, Russia has dropped dozens of missiles
on the capital of Ukraine. Ukraine's air force says around
seventy missiles fell on Kiev early today, while over one

(01:01):
hundred Russian drones targeted the city. Ukrainian officials say at
least nine people were killed in the assault, which hit
over a dozen locations, including residential buildings. They say more
people could be trapped under the rubble and that a
search and rescue operation is underway. This marks the deadliest
attacked on Kiev since last July, when nearly three dozen
people were killed in a Russian airstrike that targeted a

(01:24):
hospital in a residential neighborhood. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenski announced
he'd be cutting short a trip to South Africa following
today's bloodshed.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
I don't understand where this man is with regards to
power and negotiations. Now we're going back eleven years and
we're battling over CRIMEA again.

Speaker 5 (01:49):
Well in Russia's taking the opening.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
This is what I'm saying, what where and litigating it
in the press. This continue use. Oh, it's like this guy,
I don't understand. I don't understand his thinking.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
He's not playing it very well.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
But you know, now Russia steps into that void and says, okay,
they smell the.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Weakness blood in the water, frankly.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
And so they ramp up the attacks. And then now
so Russia's playing this too, and so now you know,
the detractors can all say, look what Trump's you know,
not supporting Zelensky and Russia's slaughtering the poorer Ukrainians and
it goes on and on and on like.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
This, Yeah, this will be in the headline snow doubt
and the propaganda press, so you see how he's a
Russian bot. He's pro putin. Like, no, they've said over
and over again, we want peace, we want the killing
to stop. Period. This administration has not picked aside.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
Well, you know, I mean, it's funny because everybody always
says that, and it's pretty You want the killing to stop,
so stop killing people. I mean, simple as that. But
you know, of course, with politics and the amount of
money involved and the power struggles, it's not as simple

(03:17):
as that. But at the end of the day, if
both sides really wanted peace, all they have to do
is stop killing each other.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Well, and they attempted this, And of course Selensky said,
even in the debacle of an Oval office meet up
where he didn't dress in a suit and the whole
thing was a mess, he didn't learn a lot there.
With the litigating everything in the press, he's continuing to
do so, which you know, makes me wonder what the
hell is he thinking. But beyond that, like, what's the

(03:43):
end game here? At least this administration is saying the
in game is to you know, stop this war, we
want peace, and they wentn't even farther than that with
the minerals deal and a whole lot of other things.
So I don't really understand it. Seems like Zelensky draws
a line that's a position of weakness in my opinion, Well, it's.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
Two corrupt countries that can't be trusted in negotiations and
we're in the middle of it, and you can't trust
either one of those countries.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Well it might not be for long much longer.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
Well, we'll see, and you know, and we'll see if
we're with this attack, if at all changes the dynamic
of these negotiations.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Check out our website ninety four three WUSC dot com.
Now back to Charleston This Morning News with Kelly and Flaves.

Speaker 6 (04:38):
Somebody needs to take Zelensky by the hand and tell
him you have already lost. You can keep what you
have or you can lose everything and everyone along with it,
because you can't beat a force like Russia. Wasn't it
five years ago they had over a million people in

(05:00):
their military. Good luck with.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
That talk that future on the iHeart up round radio
microphone got about thirty seconds to let us know, as
you had inbound this morning, what do you think?

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Yeah, well, and on the opposite side of that, let's
go to Mark this morning.

Speaker 5 (05:15):
Good morning, Mark, Good morning.

Speaker 7 (05:18):
Trump is turning us back on Ukraine. He said he
was going to end this war in twenty four hours.
Apparently his plan was just let Russia take what they want.
All of America are vast majority of Americans believe in
supporting Ukraine. The whole world should be standing up. The
food and it's saying get the hell out or we're
gonna bomb you. But it means world War three, that's

(05:41):
what it means. But you can't stand by and let
communist countries just invade other countries that take what they want.
I don't blame you. I don't blame Zelenski a bit
for standing up. It's no different than than Russia coming
into Alaska and saying, well, we've got Alaskan throw our
hands up and go okay, you can just have it.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
Well, never do that.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
It's a lot different. But anyway what they would do.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
So you're willing to risk, You're willing to risk World
War three over corrupt Ukraine. Yes, well, I don't think
the American people are with you, Mark, I think you're wrong.

Speaker 7 (06:21):
Well, that's fine. You send the message to Russia. You're
not going to take this, and then the next, and
then the next, and then the next. It stops here.
That's the way you deal with bullies. But Trump's afraid
of food. He always has been Trump. Well, most people
blue Trump.

Speaker 5 (06:43):
So what's what's your basis? What's your basis?

Speaker 4 (06:47):
Give me an example of why Trump would be a hey,
will you let me talk?

Speaker 5 (06:51):
Please?

Speaker 4 (06:52):
This happens every time, Mark, let's have a conversation. Okay, stop, okay.
So give me an example of why Trump is would
be afraid of Putin.

Speaker 7 (07:03):
Okay, here's why Putin has criticized everybody, even as American allies,
the whole world. Do you play one clip, Find a clip
and play where he is threatening the whole poutin accountable.
You won't find it because he's afraid of Putin. You
can line up thousands of clips where Trump has criticized

(07:26):
our own people and our own allies, Canada, you name it.
Find me a clip where he has threatened to whole
pootin accountable. Well, elect challenge for today.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
Well, the left always wants diplomacy, diplomacy, diplomacy, But then
when Trump tries to practice diplomacy, then you say that
he's a puppet of Putin and he's owned by Putin.

Speaker 5 (07:49):
And I'm not the left.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
I don't know what you're talking to hibout Well, okay, well,
you sound like you're the left, but okay, so well,
I mean that's neither here nor they're here and over there.
But I'm telling you that we've heard the Democrats forevers
talk about diplomacy, diplomacy, diplomacy, and when Trump practices diplomacy,

(08:11):
if you're trying to negotiate with somebody, if you're trying
to get something done, you don't insult them, you don't
threaten them. You try diplomatic means first. And Ukraine has
made that difficult. And if you look back at the
history of Ukraine, there used to be a part of
the USSR, and there's been a provocation there for a
very long time, going back to the Clinton administration of

(08:32):
Ukraine being provocative towards Russia. And there's also the Russia
saying that there's no way that we're going to have
NATO on our border, and the Biden administration totally ignored that.
And you're ignoring the fact that this war raged on
for several years under the Biden administration, and that Biden

(08:55):
originally said, well, if Russia invades Ukraine, it's going to
be a minor in.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Most importantly, you're ignoring Mark, that this never happened under
Trump's regime and rain as president. So if you want
to talk about a guy who you say owns Trump,
that's a joke. If anything, he has respect for Trump
and understands the heavy arm that Trump would have laid
down had he done this under his presidency. He waited

(09:22):
until we had a weak administration who he could frankly
take advantage of.

Speaker 7 (09:27):
I should have dealt with it.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Well, I appreciate you saying it should end it Trump,
Well I did. Trump's trying to end it. Mark, But
I don't think that, you know, starting World War I
don't think starting World War three is like anybody has
the stomach for that, right.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
It's a popular period amongst the American people. I can't
even believe it's something you would suggests called defending democracy.

Speaker 7 (09:52):
That's what we do.

Speaker 8 (09:53):
That's doing that.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
That is a total con job. Mark that the Ukraine
is some some great, stand up democratic country. They're as
cesspool of griftin graft and money laundering. All right, Mark, Well,
I appreciate the call. This morning seven to two one
talk seven two one eight two five five is the
number to the studio.

Speaker 5 (10:16):
What do you think about him?

Speaker 1 (10:20):
Traffic and weather every ten minutes.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
This is Charleston's Morning News with Kelly and Flays on
ninety four to three WUSC.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
You know, before the break, caller Mark gave us an
assignment and it reminded me of when Trump was live
on this very show ahead of the last election, talking
tough against Russia, saying they'd never have started this with
Ukraine if I were in office. They didn't do it
in my first term. So we appreciate your listening this morning,
seven two two five five, And oh we've got lines

(10:52):
loaded here this morning.

Speaker 4 (10:53):
There is and you know, I mean, at the end
of the day, there's the danger of sounding like, you know,
you support Russia when you call Ukraine out for being
a corrupt country. But Ukraine is a corrupt, untrustworthy country.
And let's set the record straight. Russia is a corrupt
country sho that can't be trusted. So the question becomes

(11:19):
how much of our riches or even beyond that, are
we going to go to war over these two corrupt
countries with this conflict that's been going on for quite
a long time, and the dates all the way back
to at least I mean the current situation from when Ukraine,
when the USSR busted up in Ukraine became independent, and

(11:42):
they've been provoking Russia ever since, and they held their
nuclear weapons hostage. And I was just talking about that
with caller John, who's his family's from Estonia. And so
the Ukrainians had because when they were part of the USSR,
they had these nuclear missile silos on their territory. The

(12:06):
thing is they had no control over those weapons. All
they did was have physical control over them. After the
breakup of the USSR, and they would not give them
back to Russia, which you could say is a provocation.
And this goes all the way back to the Clinton administration.
So there was a lot of people think this was

(12:27):
an official deal where we guaranteed the security of Ukraine,
but we did not. We did an unofficial deal where
we said Russia, we will not allow NATO on your border. Ukraine,
give Russia their nuclear weapons back and Russia do not

(12:47):
mess with Ukraine and kind of intimated that we would
offer some protection, but there was nothing official there. And
you have to ask why there was nothing official there,
and why Ukraine was not allowed to join NATO at
that time, and why we didn't go down the road

(13:08):
that Mark wants us to go down now.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
And Zelenski frankly he wants NATO to be involved.

Speaker 4 (13:15):
Well, here's the thing. If Ukraine is a member of NATO,
then we're obligated to go fight Russia exactly. And then
are we going to go send our young men and
women off to die and dedicate that amount of money
and human lives more importantly of our citizens to get

(13:37):
in the middle of this conflict between two corrupt countries.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
More of our men and women to die. We've already
lost with the US soldiers unfortunately, remember the training exercise
is about a week or two back.

Speaker 5 (13:53):
Yeah, well, I'm talking about on a much scale.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
We're already involved in a way that we've lost American lives, military.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
Lives, Yeah, which is unacceptable. So to me, that's what
this all boils down to is No, they're both untrustworthy,
and that's why I think Trump's doing the right thing
and saying, you know what, let's get this done. We're
going to do a peace negotiation. If not, you're on
your own. And a lot of people think, well, Russia's
going to use that as an opening to expand their aggression.

(14:25):
Possibly so, and then possibly we can do something about it,
when you know, the circumstances are are not so much
that we'll end up defending this, this corrupt country that
the world launders money through and has corrupt politicians.

Speaker 8 (14:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
One of our callers, Steve said, grifting weasel is what
he called Zelensky.

Speaker 5 (14:49):
Well, and if you.

Speaker 4 (14:51):
And say we grant Ukraine entry into NATO, do you
think that Zelensky's not going to use that to be
in bold and didn't continue to provoke Russia and get
us in a much bigger conflict.

Speaker 8 (15:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:05):
There's a lot of money in war, sadly.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
Yeah, So you know, at that point, maybe we should
just bow out unless they can get this done quickly,
and you know, let them fight some more. And I'm
sorry to say this, but let the suffering continue and
then maybe at some point they'll be ready to come
to the negotiating table again. And Russia shouldn't be able

(15:32):
to escape from this either, of course, you know, and
there are things being done against Russia, but Europe doesn't
help by buying their oil. And this goes back to
climate change and again the the messed up state of
the world that the Biden administration. I won't go so

(15:54):
far as to say they created it, but they made
it a whole lot worse.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
This is Charleston's Morning News with Kelly and Plays.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
And your calls and comments. Don't forget the talk pack
feature on the iHeart app, and you can't get through
that's around radio microphone. The iHeart app free to download today.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
Well, we have certainly a lot of comments about you know, Ukraine,
and you know Ukraine came under attack this morning from Russia,
one of the worst attacks on a major population center
in Ukraine in about a year. This comes after President

(16:34):
Trump called out Vladimir Zelenski saying, you know what, you
have to stop mitigating this, negotiating in the press and
acting the way that you do.

Speaker 5 (16:46):
You're blowing it here.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
And if we can't get both sides to make some
serious concessions towards peace, then we're walking away from the
whole thing, and you're going to lose your whole country.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
Well, we've got Andrew, Joe and Steve. We want to
get to some of those Andrews listening live. He's streaming
as Fire, the iHeartRadio app out of the Charlotte area.

Speaker 9 (17:07):
Go ahead, Andrew, you know, I don't hear this guy
Mark complaining about hell Hilly and Curton and Barack Obama
sold their rich pultonium to Why don't we talk about that?

Speaker 7 (17:19):
Where's the outrage, O?

Speaker 3 (17:20):
I know the outrage at least with Marcus Trump is
the Putin puppet.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
Well, and we should go back to you know, Mark's
comments where he said that we were protecting democracy and
we need to do whatever we can to protect democracy
and protect Ukraine from Russia, even if it means starting
World War three.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Quite literally those were his words. Yes, Well, and then
Blaze laid out, you know, a decent timeline of history,
which Joe you wanted to add on to.

Speaker 8 (17:47):
Clinton basically did tell the Ukraine that we were assure
their sovereignty. It was nothing in writing, but it was
a verbal agreement, right, So they gave the missiles back
to Russia. Well, that out the Ukraine to antagonize Russia,
and there was they instigated the whole situation with CRIMEA

(18:08):
and crime Russia overreacted and took Crimea Crimea because of
what was going on during the Obama administration. Obama did
nothing about it. Trump comes into office, the aggression stops.
Suddenly Biden is in office, and Russia attacks Ukraine again.

(18:29):
Poland offers to sell chets to Ukraine, and Biden stopped
that process.

Speaker 7 (18:36):
So who's the pop this year.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
Yeah, that's a good point. Thank you Joe for the
call this morning.

Speaker 4 (18:43):
Yeah, and let's go back to Biden's original words, where well,
if Russia does and they knew this invasion was coming,
Russia was lining up on the border, remember if you
remember this point in history. But they Russia was lining
up and everybody's expecting an invasion, and Biden said, well,
if they do invade, it's a minor incursion. This guy

(19:04):
blew it, just like he blew everything else in his life,
you know, in his political career, was wrong on every
decision he ever made, and he was wrong on this
one too, And so he's left a mess behind. And
you know, when there's weakness like that, somebody's going to

(19:26):
come in and fill the void, and it's usually the
bad guys. And so that would be Russia and then Ukraine.
I'm sick of hearing about protecting democracy. You know, when
somebody says we need to protect democracy, you know who's
saying that. In my opinion, the warhawks are saying that.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
Well, quite literally, look how he dresses. Look at how
he continues to try to bluster when he quite literally
does not have a dog in this fight without the
United States of America. He continues to disrespect this president,
he continues, I mean from the Oval Office, he learned nothing.
He's out here blustering and bloviating and literally litigating this

(20:06):
in the press, which is frankly pathetic. And Steve Who's
via the iHeartRadio app listening live in upstate New York
this morning, Go.

Speaker 10 (20:14):
Ahead, Vladimir Zelinski. He's a weasel, and he does not
want this war to end because he does not want
the influx of cash into his country to end. And
it's so obvious he does not want the war to end.
You can see it, and he can see it all
along there, you know, And a little dose of reality

(20:39):
might help here, because they can't win. Ukraine cannot win,
they never will win, and Zielinsky's pretending they can, and
he's trying to get dragged NATO into it. He wants
to become a member of NATO. This is not realistic.
It's and it's also deeply, deeply corrupt.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Yeah, well, and we go back to trying to shine
some light on that. How many times in ways to
lawmakers say the billions of dollars, where are they going? Now,
Zelenski's out here sitting down with a conservative commentator, Ben Shapiro, saying, oh, well,
we're open to finding out where the money is going.
You're welcome, you're welcome to see.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
Well, they're totally corrupt and they used you know, they
So the USSR broke up. Ukraine was part of the USSR.
There was still the Russian missiles on their territory, and
they weren't Ukraine's missiles. There were Russian missiles, and it's
important to note that Ukraine had no ability to use
those missiles. But they held them hostage, and they came

(21:41):
in and they wanted protection from Russia, but they provoked
Russia in the first place, and then they asked for
our protection, and then we had to step in and
kind of say all right, hey, look, give them their
weapons back and unofficially will give you protection. And the
pro vacations continued back and forth, and it's still going

(22:03):
on today, and there's people making money off of this,
and then it's being sold as protecting democracy. And it
just reminds me of when somebody says that that they're
a warhawk. George Bush, the Bush doctrine of spreading democracy
throughout the world, And how did we spread democracy throughout
the world according to you know, Dick Cheney's of you

(22:24):
on things through war? That's what we did, and we
got into these endless wars supposedly spreading democracy. So I
don't want to hear about spreading democracy. And these are
two corrupt countries and we certainly don't need to go
to World War three. Mark Mark over these and Mark

(22:47):
Uriti just called and she said, you know what, if
if Mark got called up for service for World War three,
he'd wet his pants.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
And she said, well, thank you for that.

Speaker 4 (23:00):
And that it was a very arrogant statement for Mark
to make, you know, being all blustery, and you have
to wonder if he truly believes that it's worth starting
World War three to protect a corrupt little country like Ukraine,
who can't get its act together, even with the United
States on his side. And you know what, like it

(23:21):
reminds me of what they used to say about you know,
Republicans is like you. Sometimes you have to accept the win,
but they won't, you know. And Zelensky has the most
powerful nation on his side trying to negotiate peace, and
he won't take it.
