Greeting salutations of welcome my friends to another edition of
The Power Hour on six ten WTV in a Thursday edition,
I'm Chuck Douglas. You know who you are. We take
it from there. We get one hour together, which means
I talk really really fast and you must listen even faster.
My number eight two one nine eight eighty six eight
two one dou WTV in or one eight hundred six'
TEN wtv. In, however Today i'm not going to be
(00:23):
talking about politics or taxes or the legislature Or Donald
trump or interest rates or blah blah blah blah blah blah,
blah because a few weeks AGO i ask you to
help me. OUT i asked you to send me emails
for SOMETHING i Call Difference, day WHERE i want to
just take you, know one of my shows every now and,
then probably On, thursdays and highlight, groups, organizations individuals that
(00:46):
are doing things in my hometown Of columbus and all
over Central ohio to make things. Better today is a Difference.
Day let's do. IT i have been known to call
(01:13):
it the ugly little blue building in the. Bottoms the
address is actually one sixty Five South, Cyprus. Avenue that's
the location of a place Called Crossroads World Outreach, ministries
our feature at this time around On Difference. Day this,
PLACE i say ugly little building as a, joke because,
well there's two. Reasons first of, all because so many
(01:35):
beautiful things happen there because of the work that the people,
do because of all of the volunteer efforts and the
donation efforts and so. Forth and the other reason is
because it is an ugly. Building but that's no reflection
on the man sitting across from you right, Now Pastor
Corey paraso From Crossroads World Outreach. Ministries we've known each
(01:58):
other FOR i think about six years, now AND i
have continued to be supportive and impressed by what happens.
There we got together because of A christmas toy drive
when one of the big organizations that was supposed to
be helpful called up and, said, hey we're not going
to be able to honor our. Commitment AND i got
(02:18):
a call asking to help them collect toys FOR i
think it was one hundred and twenty three kids If
i'm not, mistaken that had registered for This christmas toy
giveaway in The franklinton area and folks came through In Central,
ohio and from that moment, FORWARD i, WAS i don't,
know just kind of connected to the. Place it's WHERE
i met The, Queen it's where it's WHERE i go
(02:41):
to see things that make me feel better and useful and,
needed and we can always use more of those down
there as. Well So, corey first of, all thank. You
don't be, nervous it's just me. Absolutely how long ago
did you start with The Christmas toy? Drive when was
it Beginning.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Christmas Toy we actually started that right when we begin
the ministry in twenty, fifteen so twenty, FIFTEEN i think we.
Started we had our first service at one sixty Five
South Cyprus avenue In, may and then it just each
(03:19):
each day each week that we started doing different, things you,
know we could really be. Able we started the FOOD
i think we started that out with just with one,
table started With Love Thy neighbor event you know that
year as, well and then it just came to pass
to be able to do The christmas program that. Year
(03:43):
so since twenty, fifteen.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
All the stuff that you do down there probably the most,
impressive AND i you, Know i'm On facebook pretty much
every week when you post at the. CHURCH i will
then share the post need, food get. Food And i'm
talking about free Food. FRIDAY i don't know what to Call.
Saturday that's like free Food friday part, TWO i. Guess
but Every, friday people start gathering about one o'clock in the,
(04:07):
afternoon and there's no government, forms there's NO dna, samples
none of that. Crap there's a sign up, sheet put
down your, name how many people you need to, feed
and then about four point thirty the food giveaway actually.
Begins AND i, mean how many there's always so? Many
how many people do you have any idea how many
(04:27):
numbers wise you are serving with free Food. Fridays now we're.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Serving over twenty five hundred people pretty much by the
end of the, month we're serving over twenty five hundred.
PEOPLE i, know like last Last, saturday we had over
one hundred people one hundred families show, up which was
about three hundred and fifty people that was. Served so
(04:55):
we can definitely tell from the time that we first
started in twenty, fifteen which was just with one table
with one table and just one vendor giving to US
uh to now over you, know eleven tables that either.
Inside mostly we tried to do it. Outside that, way
(05:17):
it's more like a farmer's, market more, inviting and more
people are able to be able to. Come they can
be able to, choose you, know what type of food
and vegetables.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
That they would.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Like plus, suites you, know we got we got, suites
we got you, know freshly made. Bread very thankful to
all the vendors that do give to. Us but it
just started off with that one little table and uh
and just the people that, come and it gets we
just have more and more and more people that are being,
(05:52):
SERVED i, think and especially in this year of, transitions
you know as, uh you, Know President trump is doing his,
thing you know to get things back jump. Start you,
know things are going to get worse before they get.
Better and that's the one thing that we're. Seeing we're
seeing a lot more younger people out on the, streets
(06:14):
which was really hard to. See but we want to
make sure that we're. There you, know anytime that anybody's
going to need, help we're going to be there for.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Them the idea that you, know people, say, oh free,
food you probably cheetos and, stuff that is something THAT
i think impresses me a great. Deal the food that
is given. Away there's always just a just a popourri
of fresh produce out. There at, summertime you get the
corn and the tomatoes, especially but there's always oranges and candle,
(06:46):
loope And i've seen sometimes we've got a good selection
watermelon is brought. In and the breads are are not
just you, know your basic white. Bread there's all sorts
of artists and breads out there and things like. That
meat not as free equally or as large as as
we might like it to, be but there's there's usually you,
know plenty of meat involved in free Food fridays as,
(07:07):
well canned, goods prepackaged, stuff, milk. Eggs it's it's good wholesome.
Food and you mentioned young people and people on the
streets and so. Forth the people that come to, this,
yeah some of them are living on the, street under,
bridges behind a car or. Whatever there are also some
people that will roll up after working their job and you,
(07:32):
know they've got bills to, pay and they got more
bills than they got, money and they got to feed the.
Kids and it's it's so wonderful to see this mix
of humanity all together and all being served by this
one common, element which is to help. People and that's
THAT'S i think the beauty of what happens a, crossroads.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Yep and that's one of the things that THAT i
truly enjoy it is seeing the diverse city that does
come to to the. Crossroads and and one of the
things is it's it's not it's not by, age because
we have we have you, know seniors that come to.
Crossroads some of them are coming in, wheelchairs some of
(08:15):
them are coming with, canes and you, know and and
they have to. Pick they have to pick Either, hey
DO i want to eat today or DO i want
to be able to take my medication? Today and that's
something that you, know we don't want any of our you,
know order folks to be able to choose over. That.
Uh and then we got younger folks that are coming
(08:36):
in that we we, know we don't know why why they're,
here but we know we want to be there for.
Them all different types and nationalities are coming. Here. Uh
AND i truly believe it's just because of the love
that we show, them the respect that we give them
and not judging. Them of, course you know that there's
(08:58):
there's people that are hooked on, drugs chucked on. Alcohol
but the one thing that we have to do is
we have to treat them with the. Humanity got a
love on him as much as, possible because you never
know how you're going to affect their, life to maybe
watch them be able to make the. Change and that's
one THING i really can be able to testify About.
(09:18):
Chuck we have seen, that we have seen people make that.
Change and we've seen people that was hooked on, drugs
hooked on and they came To crossroads And crossroads made
such a difference in their life that they're literally coming
back To crossroads and lending us a hand saying, hey
you know by a young man by the name Of
(09:39):
albert just started donating and helping us. Out and he
was in that situation and he started coming To crossroads
and that became a light to him and then he
was able to get hisself better and he's been clean
for over eleven years now and now he gets back To.
(10:00):
Crossroads he's one of Our he, drives he he, volunteers
he gives and it's just amazing to be able to
see that when you're able to make a difference in
somebody Else's.
