Speaker 1 (00:01):
You are about to hear a feature that was created
to expose the scammers, thieves, and con artists among us.
The dialogue and temperament about to be used by Hollywood
Hamilton does not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of iHeartMedia.
This is Fraud Friday.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Oh what an interesting one. I think, Well, you know,
I think we're on episode number fifteen of Fraud Friday.
We've covered it all, We've covered it all, but we
haven't covered the travel agency world. Samantha brought this to
my attention. You might think that you might have thought
that travel agencies are like a thing of the past,
but they are not still much come in handy when
you know nothing about your dream destination. Jack, are you?

(00:42):
Are you there? Can you hear me?

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Yes? They can.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Jack called us up and he thinks he might have
been taken for a large amount of money. Him and
his wife were planning on going to Greece. They were
gonna leave out of Miami. I'm gonna let Jack take
it from there. And now he thinks that this travel agency,
because they're supposed to be leaving this Tuesday to today
and it's Friday.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
My wife book the cruise No itinery. There's no paperwork,
we didn't get an email, we didn't get a phone call.
So you know, I'm really concerned and I'm worried that
we got scammed over here.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Okay, So you've been trying to reach out to this
it's called travel agency, and this woman's name is Maureen,
and you've been calling her quite frequent, according to Sammy,
the last week and a half, and she's now not
returning her phone calls. Is that correct?

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Correct? We're a few days out and I can't even
get her on the phone.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Yeah, yeah, Okay.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
My wife's friend told her that we could be getting
scammed because she's read it in the newspaper. And I
think that maybe because we got no itinery and that
we put twelve thousand dollars though every day getting.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Well twelve yds. Oh my gosh. Yeah, to begin, it's
two of them. Oh my gosh, where are you from, Jack?
Where are you from?

Speaker 3 (01:57):
From the Bronx?

Speaker 2 (01:58):
This Maureene is from the agency right next to you
there in Long Island City, not too far from you.
And we understand that, Anthony. You tried to call Maureen
last night and she did pick up the phone. She's
continuing to run the scam. She's just not getting back
a jack.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
Jack.

Speaker 5 (02:14):
This travel agency. Was it a brick and mortar facility
or was it online? How did you book this cruise?

Speaker 4 (02:22):
My wife?

Speaker 3 (02:22):
She went down for the store?

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Was there?

Speaker 3 (02:24):
My wife booked the trip. Everything was good. We thought
we were going. So we didn't hit back from Maureen
the world.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
So what the deal was? It was actually a store.
It was actually a.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Was It was not even there anymore. It's not even
it's not even Oh.

Speaker 5 (02:39):
Wow, you're kidding me.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
She went down there and dropped the credit card and
the full amount, yes, the full amount, twelve thousand dollars.
And we didn't get any intinerary. We got nothing.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
And we know we know, okay, Jack, we know that Jack.
But so you went down with her where she plopped
the money down, and then you saw for your own
eyes that there's this facility no longer open. Wow.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Okay, And my wife and I are fighting and I
don't want to happen.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
But she can't come down, I know, But you can't
come down. And your wife, she didn't know.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
This is what we put away in on day to
travel and enjoy life. And now we'll get scammed.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
All right, Jack, here's the good news. So Anthony, our
producer uh called. I guess the number was a cell
number that this Maureen woman gave your wife and the
cell is still very much operational. What happened, Anthony? After
you asked for Maureen, she picked talk to her for
a little bit.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
I asked her about a just a trip to like
Miami or something.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
I kept the generic.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
She totally lied to you about a trip too. So
she's continuing with this scam.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
And yeah, she was pretty persuasive too. She actually she
knew her stuff. That's pretty good. All right, Well we
can't get through to her. That's the good news Jack.
All right, welcome to Fraud Friday. In a minute, we're
gonna be calling Maureen and we're gonna try to get
some of your money back. Where you know, we got
a pretty good success ratio on the show. We got
about an eighty five percent success ratio. And Jack, I
guess what is a flast question? What's the total amount?

(04:11):
I need to know the total amount that this woman
or this company establishment has taken you for?

Speaker 3 (04:15):
How much twelve thousand, six hundred and ninety nine dollars?

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Oooh oh? All right here, My goodness. Next on Frida Friday,
let's see what we can do.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
You're listening to Fraud Friday with the KTU Morning Crew.
We'll be right back with part two when Hollywood and
Marie make the call. Buckle up because things are about
to get rough.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
We recorded all right, here we go. Did she, by
the way, Anthony last night, did she pick up the
phone and say was it the travel agency? Or did
she just hello? How did she pick travel? It was?
She did? Okay?

Speaker 4 (04:49):
Yeah, okay, here we gotle agency? Hi?

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (04:57):
Who am I speaking with?

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Hi?

Speaker 4 (04:59):
This is Marie and how can may I help you?

Speaker 5 (05:01):
Maureene? Hi, Mareen. My name is Marie and I am
I'm looking to travel to Italy and I'm hoping that
you can give me some help here because I don't
even know where to start.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
Can I ask where you heard about us?

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Well?

Speaker 5 (05:16):
Yeah, I actually drove by and I saw your sign.
You're in Long Island City right all online?

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Now?

Speaker 5 (05:25):
Do you work a lot with Italy?

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Do book a lot?

Speaker 4 (05:28):
What are your plans for Italy?

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Well?

Speaker 5 (05:30):
I was really thinking of just doing Rome. I've never
been to Italy, so well.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
That's a great jumping off point is Rome, and since
it's centially located in As, so many NonStop flights from
the US to Rome.

Speaker 5 (05:44):
Yeah, I thought, maybe I've never really been to Italy.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
So I am to doing like a three city a
multiple city tour, because I can get you a much
better deal with a multi city tour. Oh really, would
you be traveling alone? Are you traveling with other people group?

Speaker 5 (06:01):
No, it would just be myself.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
Oh that's fantastic. We have a lot of trips designed
for the solo traveler. I thought start in Rome and
then I would maybe go down to see a Mofie coat.
So we could do Naples, we could do Capri, we
could do Positano. That would be a lovely twelve day trip.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
Twelve days.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
It's Italy. I mean, once you're there, honestly, you're not
going to want to leave. So I would start off with,
you know, twelve days. I would even add an extra week.
I mean, it doesn't sound like.

Speaker 5 (06:32):
You travel a lot, so you trip well where else?

Speaker 4 (06:37):
Could also go North Florence, you could do Venice, you
could do testany Are you a wine drinker, Marie?

Speaker 5 (06:43):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (06:43):
I like wine.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
We have this wine tour and you get to bike
through Tuscany. You can stop on the grates to watch
the sunset. It's going to be spectacular and instagrammable. I mean,
all your friends are going to be so jealous they
didn't come with you.

Speaker 5 (06:56):
I don't do Instagram or any of that stuff, but
it sounds a trip.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
And that I just need to know kind of what
your preferences are. Do you like a five star hotel?

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (07:06):
No, class?

Speaker 5 (07:08):
No, I could never fly first class. I'm what's that
like up there in that first class?

Speaker 4 (07:13):
I have no idea. It's heaven in the sky, it's
free drinks. It's going to be a long trip, so
you're going to want to fly first class. So when
you arrive in Rome, you're going to feel refreshed and
just ready to go to the coliseum. You want to
see the trevy fountains.

Speaker 5 (07:26):
I don't know. You're talking first class airfare, five star hotels.
I just don't know if I'm comfortable doing.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
I want to get you right now. There's so many
great deals going on right now. So I can get
you for one person, a solo traveler, first class, five
star hotels, twelve to fourteen days. Let's we can even
do pusha two weeks I can get that for under
fifteen thousand at this point, and that is a same coal.

Speaker 5 (07:52):
I really thought it would be more than that.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
Hello, yes, yes, oh great, well we can even add
on more to the trip.

Speaker 5 (08:02):
So for the fifteen thousand dollars trip, what do you
need for the deposit?

Speaker 4 (08:07):
How much? And I will handle your transportation to and
from the air.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
What up front?

Speaker 5 (08:11):
How much money deposit do you need for this? Exactly
the deposit? How much do you need?

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Yeah, for the deposit upfront for this trip? Considering I'm
arranging everything and I can get you such a great deal,
I would need close to twelve thousand dollars for the deposit,
just the leading book, all these tours in all these hotels,
because it's going to be high season, sure, because otherwise.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Real piece of work. This Marene's a real piece. Like
she doesn't even hear that there's a third voice.

Speaker 5 (08:40):
On the phone, all right, not even paying attention.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
She's got you over now in her head so that
her mind is racing and all she's seeing is money signs.
She's not even hearing that there's a third voice. That's right, marine,
Are you wondering, are you wondering? Who stepped in here,
this Maureene Travel Agency.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
Hello, how are you today?

Speaker 2 (09:00):
I think I'm gonna be doing a little bit better
than you after you hear that. What who I am
and what this phone calls all about? Marine? I'm a
private investigator. My name's Sean Hamilton here in New York City,
and uh, if I can have your you do not
want to hang up because if you hang up, things
are just gonna get so much worse for you. And
we have a client by the name of Jack Holster. Jack.

(09:22):
Are you on the phone?

Speaker 4 (09:25):
Jack?

Speaker 3 (09:25):
Can you hear me?

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Okay? Can you identify this woman's voice? Marine?

Speaker 3 (09:30):
I really don't know her voice, but I have to
speak of Pauvon and my wife is right here.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Okay, So okay, So you've never spoke to this woman
Marine before? Your wife has right here.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
She can verify it.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
Yes, I can.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
What is your What is your name?

Speaker 3 (09:47):
Marcy? Hi?

Speaker 4 (09:48):
Hi?

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Marci? Of course, as you know, I've been working with
your husband. Now the woman's voice that you've been listening
to on the speaker phone, is this the woman that
you've been dealing with from the travel agency?

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Absolutely sure?

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Where is okay? Maureen? Do you understand so far? What's happening.

Speaker 4 (10:04):
I don't know what's happening right now.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
You know exactly what's happening right now. You've been dealing
with a man and his wife by the name of
the Holsters. Jack Holster is on the phone with his
wife right now. It sounds like you've hustled him out
of twelve thousand, six hundred and ninety nine dollars. You
haven't returned his phone call. He's supposed to be on
a cruise out of Miami this Tuesday, and you've completely
ghosted him.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
You're gonna have to speak with my lawyer.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Oh is that right? Okay? Well, why would I have
to speak with your lawyer? Why would I have to
speak with your lawyer? If you're on the up and
up right now?

Speaker 3 (10:34):
Jack?

Speaker 4 (10:34):
I was about to call you.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
What do you mean you're gonna tell me? I've called
several times. My wife is called and spoke to you.
You never returned off phone calls. We paid his twelve thousand,
six hundred and ninety nine dollars for a trip that's
supposed to happen next Tuesday. It's already Friday.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
What's going on? You?

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Are you for real? Are you just you?

Speaker 4 (10:54):
I was going to call you back today.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
All right, Samantha, can you for coming up that you
and Marthy haven't looking forward to. I haven't met you
Jack personally, but I did meet Marcy and I know
she's very excited about the trip.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Whoa Roddy was supposed to go away on Tuesday and
this isn't gonna happen.

Speaker 5 (11:12):
You haven't given them confirmation on anything.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
Last time I heard from you, you asked my wife
for our passports. She gave me the passport numbers and everything,
and what you never called this backs?

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Samantha, Can you do me? If ever? Can you get
Jerry on the phone from Letitia James office, the State
Attorney General's office on the listen. He wants his money back.
We feel that there's something not right here. This is
for gay something's not right here.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
Something stinks.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
Well.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
This is a travel agency and they paid for services
for me to book their trip, and their trip is books.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
That's so funny that you closed your doors on the
brick and mortar. They're in Long Island City and you
didn't even tell your customer. He wasn't able to get
a hold of you after you shut down your doors
in Long Island City, So.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
We did send an email to all of our clients.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
I have for you to It's like a resond like
he'd like a refund, he'd like his trip reimbursed.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
We want the money back.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
The chip is the ship is non refundable.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
All I'm a I'm afraid, Maureene, that this this is
gonna get a whole lot worse for it. We've got
your phone number, we're running IP addresses. We know where
you're at, we know how to deal with things like this.

Speaker 5 (12:20):
Can you forward? There are the couple's itinerary to Samantha
who works in our office here, so she can confirm everything.

Speaker 4 (12:31):
I can probably get you a partial refund because the
ship has already been booked and it's so close to
the carture.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Mariene, I swear to God, we're getting ready to come
down on you like a stack of You are not
going to believe how bad this is going to get
for you.

Speaker 5 (12:43):
Where's this confirmation information?

Speaker 4 (12:47):
Well, that's why we've been calling back and forth. I
mean we have.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Wife and Jack say you have not returned their phone
calls in over two weeks.

Speaker 5 (12:54):
They have no boarding pass for the flight.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
Yes, I can probably do actually eight thousand dollars.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
What is that.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
All of a sudden, you can do eight grand nice,
all of a sudden, Jack, This is probably I gotta
be honest with you. I can get her blacklisted with
every agency in the city, all the way up to
the state Attorney General's Office, better Business Bureau, to the
American Society Travelers Advisories Board.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
I feel that I've been taken.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Yes, you probably have been taken.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
Yes, I'm still here because I know how important this
trip is to you. And if you decide I can books.

Speaker 5 (13:30):
Yes, she cares person.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
So we don't want to book anything with you anymore
because you're not You're not sufficient. You know.

Speaker 4 (13:37):
I apologize about that we were moving. I do apologize
about that.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
Excuse Oh my god. All right, what do you want
to do.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
We will take the eight thousand dollars back, but we
still feel like we've been scanned, and we've definitely was.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
Hoping you weren't going to say that. I was hoping
you weren't going to say that. Credit a debit card, right,
as a merchant, you can credit that that car credit
the card.

Speaker 5 (14:02):
His account goes right into his account.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Credit that card.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
