Speaker 1 (00:00):
Justin Barclay back live on West Michigan Live Live from
the White House today and here with Secretary of Homeland
Security Secretary Christin no good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Thank you Justin for inviting me to be with you.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Fantastic we you know, we were just joking, kind of
talking about how things are moving at such a fast pace.
But that's really the way this administration rons President Trump
hits the ground running. You guys start locking into place,
and we're seeing really a feverish pace of great things happening.
We were talking about the deportations, we're talking about making
America safe again. And by the way, just that border,

(00:34):
I mean an incredible fee.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yeah, it was interesting.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
As soon as President Trump nominated me to be the
Homeland Security Secretary, he said, listen, I want the border
closed on day one. He wanted it to be a
game changer. And so we started work even before I
was sworn in, on putting the operations in place so
that we could have strong leadership, but also started enforcing
the law. And we have seen the February and March,
we've broken the record in the nation's for the lowest

(01:01):
encounters at the border.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
So it's ninety nine percent.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Under operational control, which they tell me to never say
one hundred percent because you might always.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Have one incident.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
But it's amazing what a guy in the White House
that loves this country, what he can do in a
short period of time to really change the whole situation.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
I guess we didn't need a new law. I guess
we just needed a new president.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
He was exactly right when he said that in his
State of the Union speech.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
We just needed a new president.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
And now when people break our law, there's consequences, and
they recognize that. And as we're seeing people get deported
that are the worst of the worst, the criminals, the terrorists,
people that are here illegally are self deporting. They recognize
we've been communicating pretty aggressively that listen, you have the
opportunity to go home on your own, and then you
have a.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Chance to come back. If you want to be in America,
come back. We'll speed it up.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
We'll get you guys to become US citizens in a
faster manner. But we also need you to go home
because you broke the law. So President Trump recognizes that
we got to go after these criminals that are terrorizing
our communities. And then encourage people that listen. You don't
get to jump the line. There's laws and there's consequences
for them.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Do it the right way. And as you mentioned, I
think so many people look in Grand Rapids, we had
a situation and throughout the state, the country, there's another
story that fits this unfortunately same scenario. We had Ruby
Garcia and Grand Rapids, and Rachel Marin's mother was here

(02:33):
the other day at the same time that we've got
people flying to El Salvador to visit MS thirteen gang members.
We couldn't live in a more upside down world at times.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
No, that's true, and that's what I think shows us
that evil still lives. The fact that people will defend
individuals that have been out there perpetuating violence, and that
we've got people fighting for individuals that have.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Murdered and raped and robbed people and been.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Members of terrorist organizations that don't love America. You know,
this individual in El Salvador is a known MS thirteen
gang member. Two courts decided that local law enforcement officials
decided it he was suspected of human trafficking as well.
On top of that, and when he was encountered by
law enforcements surrounded.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
By MS thirteen gang members.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
So every one of these deportations that were undertaking, we
build cases on information and facts, and what the liberal
press and the fake news has done to try to
turn him into something that he's not is a shamed
to the United States of America and to the people
that live here, those poor mothers and families that live
without their children.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Just their minds are blown that.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
There can be people defend the kind of criminals that
took their children's lives.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
You know, I watch these things, and I think we
all see it. On this day and age, we see
a lot of truth coming out and forms of memes
and things that people say on So one of the
things that hit this last week, and I think hit
particularly hardest. Haven't seen any Democrats go to try to
get hostages released from AMAS, and yet we're seeing it here.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
It's yeah, I'm not certain it's got to be just
a hatred for President Trump. It has to be because
what hamas perpetuators of violence do is exactly the same
is what TDA and MS thirteen do. They swear the
same allegiance and affiliations, They conduct criminal activities and kill

(04:32):
people and rape and murder them and plan big operations.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
It's exactly the same thing.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
That's why the President recognized that they are foreign terrorist organizations.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
And so that is a terrible thing to see.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
Happen in those country that we have people that muddy
the waters on.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Those kind of facts.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Well, you know, we understand your heart at work, and
folks are doing everything, and it's wild to see the
contrast and how quickly things have changed. What about the courts,
I know, when we're starting to see that, you know,
apparently district court judges can run the country now, or
at least they think they can. This is not just frustrating,

(05:15):
I'm sure to the administration, but to the American people
as well. It's more than that. What we're seeing happening
is and I'll let you talk about this, but it's
a deliberate act to stop the administration from getting things
done that the American people elected you to do.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Yeah, and President Trump recognized that this would be a
tactic that they would try to employ as soon as
he was sworn into office.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
I mean, that man went through hell the last.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Several years in court with activists from the bench and
prosecutors and das that went after him, and so he
was prepared that everything he would do, somebody would oppose
him and they would try to use the courts to
do it. So, even before he took office, his team
and I was working with them as well on recognizing

(05:59):
that would whatever action we took, we'd get legal challenges too,
that we would exercise all of the authorities that are
granted him by the Constitution, and that if they tie
us up.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
In court on one, well then we've got five other
authorities that we're going to use.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
So we wouldn't let one radical judge in a district
court or one bad decision happened that would stop us.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
From doing what was right.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
The executive branch has incredible constitutional power that this president
will use to protect the American people. So even though
we're getting challenged, we're still working. Even though judges are
trying to stop us from getting the worst of the
worst out of this country, we're still every day going
after these criminals in their communities and taking them and
deporting them out of the country and taking them to

(06:41):
their home countries. They have broken the law not only
by being in this country illegally, but by overstaying their orders,
having final removal orders and then also committing crimes, and
many of them committing crimes in their home countries. So
that's one of the remarkable things that the Department of
State is doing, and Marco Rubio is doing, is negotiating
this with all these other countries to take these individuals back.

(07:02):
He's done fantastic work and getting us permission to land planes,
getting into airspace, getting us the ability to get travel documents,
so that not only are we getting people out of
this country that are dangerous, but that their home countries
are taking their citizens back.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
What are we focused on wrapping up the first one
hundred days? What's what are the next steps that we're
looking at here, particularly priorities with your department?

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Oh my goodness, Well, the first one hundred days have
been phenomenal. The accomplishments of President Trump are amazing. We've
seen fentanyl crisis and trafficking drop by over fifty percent.
We've seen crime drop, We've seen over one hundred terrorists
removed from this country, thousands and thousands of known criminals deported.

(07:48):
We've seen hundreds of thousands of people that have been
removed from the country. But beyond that, I also have
the responsibility for FEMA. He has committed to reforming FEMA
and eliminating it and making sure that we have people
locally that are best responding to individuals and the federal
government just backing them up with finances and resources.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
I have TSA, so can.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
I can I stop you for just just to say
that stories out of North Carolina, Western North Carolina from
the moment that you all took over, it was just
like the border, night and day. The help they started.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Getting, yeah, absolutely, night and day, and those folks had
nowhere to turn until President Trump showed up.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
And now they've got roads, they've got homes.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
They didn't have heat or winter clothes, and nobody was responding.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
And we have within FEMA.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
Some claims that we're seven, eight, nine, ten years old
that were approved that were never paid out to people
that relied on that kind of federal assistance. So we
shouldn't promise something we don't follow through on.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
I also have.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
USCIS, so that's Citizenship and Immigration Services making sure that
we're hurrying up on working the processes of people who
want to come here legally. I have SISA, which is
responsible for cybersecurity, making sure that we don't have bad
actors victimize our infrastructure, like our water plants.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Our electrical grid. We all heard about Salt Typhoon, which
was the big hacking.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Of our telecoms that released all people's private data. I
tell folks, I've got everything from people that are in
this country that come in this country, leave this country
or live here, products that come into our country or
leave our country, and everything on the Internet that's communicated
or said or transpired on the Internet.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
We have the US Coast Guard as well.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
We've repositioned our fleet to be more focused in the
areas that are our biggest threats, like around the border
and our maritime barriers.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
To interdict our drugs.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
So the repurposing and focus as President has given us
is empowering us to keep the American people safe, but
also to help us thrive. And that's what I think
is so powerful about what he's done.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
We know that well. And you mentioned fentanyl is one
of the issues in Michigan, our northern border that even
bigger concern a lot of times than with the southern border.
And we've seen we've seen those bus so the fentanyl
and things like that happening. So we are we're excited
to see what's coming the next one hundre day. So
I've got to ask you before you go, Well, I

(10:07):
got to make sure you got your purse, and you
hate it.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
I did not. I did get my purse stolen.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
This what happened? This is such a and I mean
forgive me, but like such a horrible story that something
like this would happen.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
Yeah, it really, It really was just because you know,
we were just out to Easter dinner with our family
and it was sitting right at my feet and there's
an investigation ongoing.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
But the guy literally was a professional.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
He hooked it with his foot and drug it a
few steps and dropped his coat over it.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
And but just that's what.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
You realize is how professional these thieves are, and that
people have had to be living in communities where this happens.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
All the time.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
And it reaffirms again in a very personal way, the
work I have to do every day to help people
never have to live in neighborhoods where they have to
worry about this, where they have to worry about people
that are going to victimize them and take it advantage
of them or hurt their families. And that's why President
Trump is President is to protect us and to keep

(11:06):
us safe. So you know, for me, my whole families
fine and safe. But it was eye opening as to
the professionalism of these thieves and what they can accomplish,
and how vulnerable people are when they're just enjoying time
with their families.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
Well, and to your point, if it can happen to
somebody like you, it can happen to any one of us.
It underscores the mission of making America safe again. And
we appreciate everything you're doing well.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
Thank you so much for all that you do.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
And I would just encourage everybody to keep listening to
folks like you that tell the truth. There's a lot
of big national media fake news out there, and so
anybody who's willing to be accountable to what they say
and what they talk about and put out the facts.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Is very valuable and important right now to our future.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Thank you so much, Secretary now and we appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Have a great
