Speaker 1 (00:00):
Did you see that they're putting stuff on the screen?
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Any of the Nico Harrison stuff today is the GM
for the Dallas Mavericks. And of course he famously now
or infamously traded away Luca Dodgic to the La Lakers.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Yeah, did you see any.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Of his stuff today?
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Did not?
Speaker 4 (00:15):
It was?
Speaker 1 (00:16):
It was epic. First of all, I got I got
two things to play for you, and I think you'll
appreciate these. This first one is, uh, are you surprised
a bit?
Speaker 2 (00:23):
It actually includes the question, but it's basically, are you
surprised at the fan outrage.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
By losing Luca Dodge? Here's what he said.
Speaker 5 (00:30):
When you were kicking the idea of this trade around
and you had various scenarios planned in your head, did
the anger and outrage from the fan base?
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Has that exceeded what you were.
Speaker 5 (00:42):
Kind of planning for?
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Yeah? Good question.
Speaker 6 (00:48):
I didn't know that Luca was important to the to
the fan base. I didn't quite know.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
It to what level.
Speaker 6 (00:55):
But really the way we looked at it is, you know,
if you're putting on the if you're putting it team
on the floor, that's Kyrie Clay PJ. Anthony Davis and
lively we filled that's a championship caliber team and we
would have been winning at a high level and that
would have quieted some of the outrage. And so unfortunately
we weren't able to do that, so it just continued to,
(01:17):
you know, go on and on.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
We're quite aware of you know, first of all, fan,
I don't know that that fan sentiment should play into
a decision.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Now.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
I do happen to know a little more than the
public here, because you know, I got people everywhere, man,
yes you do. So a couple of things. Number one,
this is all a big game of poker between the
Mavericks ownership. Who wants a casino in their new stadium
in the state of Texas, who refuses to give a
(01:51):
casino license? Next? Who knows what this would have actually
looked like had Kyrie Irving been able to play this year?
Him with Ad who you know, Ad continues to be
Himmy one game, he's fifty one, next game, come on.
So I think that the problem is when fans have
(02:13):
more foresight than your GM. That's what it sounds like,
and so your best plans always go to waste, right,
and then best football coaches will tell you that best
basketball coaches. But the second thing is is internally at
the Mavericks, they were frustrated because Luka Doncis had no
(02:33):
one to check him, no one to say play defense.
They were tired of telling Luka Doncis to play defense. Now,
what's ironic is that person's Lebron who plays no defense, right, Like,
Lebron's going to be telling him to play defense. But
he'll do it because Lebron says so. So I think
at the end of the day, Luca Doncis will be
successful in Los Angeles, and it's going to be because
(02:55):
of him willing to take on the aspects of the
game he was unwilling to do.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
And deb was here's this other one.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Really quick, he was asked of why he shouldn't be fired,
which before we play it, I think it's kind of
a clown move by a media member to ask that.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
By the media, Oh.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Do you okay? All right, it's it's for me. It's
a clown show. It's you are not in Dallas, Okay,
Well all right, well here here here's the interaction.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
Why shouldn't you be fired?
Speaker 6 (03:27):
Well, one, I think I've done a really good job here. Uh,
and I and I don't think I can be judged
by the injuries this year. You have to judge the
from totality, from beginning to end. And so I think
I have a really good working relationship with Patrick. I
think you add in Rick, the leadership that we have
(03:47):
is is really elite. And you'll see next year when
our team comes back, we're going to be competing for
a championship.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
It doesn't even sound like he believes that.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
No, of course he doesn't it.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Come back next year, compete for a championship. Is there
a question marketing? Yeah, which number one. Voice fry is
a real issue and many many people out there listening
speak with voice fry. It literally makes you sound thirty
percent less intelligent. They've done studies on this. Speak with
your voice, say it with the chest, as Kevin Hart
used to say, sounds like a guy who's fired, or
(04:20):
it sounds like a guy who's who knows he's not
gonna get fired because management is playing a bigger game
of poker than nobody else has seen.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Which we've seen instances of that where you think like, hey,
there's no reason why this guy should be still in position,
but it's like, well, hey, if ownership told him to
do it, for example out in Cleveland, right, Yeah, adding
to Sean Watson, it was an ownership decision. People have
been calling for Andrew Berry's head now for years because
of the Shawn Watson trade.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Reality is that was done by the HASLMS.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Yeah, And if the HASLMS told him to execute this trade,
he works for them, So he's gonna have a job
because it's not his fault that the team is in
shambles now because of one of the worst trades in
NFL history.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
One of my favoritefess always said, the minute you take
a job is the minute you have to be prepared
to say no and resign, and this is one of
those situations.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
We head out to the Kawai Common Spirit Health hoighline
and bring on Ian Rockport, our NFL Network insider, and
he's powered by Chevron. Chevron the human Energy company, committed
to our local communities and safely delivering affordable, reliable, ever
cleaner energy. Ian, Good afternoon, sir, You're on with Ryan
Edwards and Ryan Harris.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
How worry man?
Speaker 4 (05:30):
What's going on? How are you?
Speaker 1 (05:31):
We're doing great, very well.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Obviously very interesting week every year with the draft, but
today you had multiple reports this morning that the Broncos
might be aggressive in the first round and possibly moving
up for a running back or you hearing anything.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Yeah, I mean, first of all, if the Broncos were
aggressive in the first round, that wouldn't surprise me. I
mean Sean Payton. Well, one, look, you always hear rumors
about everyone, and I do hear the Broncos have been
making calls potentially moving up. One good thing about Sean
Payton is he's done it before. So when rumors circulate,
(06:08):
everyone knows, like, all right, like this is possible, Like
at least it's not nonsense. It's something that could absolutely
be real. Right, I'd be surprised if it was a
running back. I wouldn't be surprised if it was for
a receiver. And I know that they've sort of said
like they're happy with the receivers and all that. I
just I just sort of wonder, like, is there a
(06:31):
receiver they like enough where they say, like it's not
a great receiver group, it's okay, not a great receiver group.
Do they have to trade up for one to get
the kind of quality they want? Maybe? Maybe would sort
of fly against the conventional wisdom and what they've said,
but I think back to last year kind of like
knowing what they said and then what they did. They're
(06:53):
sort of like two opposite things. So we'll see. But
I wouldn't be surprised if they spiced it up a
little bit in the first round.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
It always makes me think when people talk about trading
up or trading down, what's the best story they're telling
each other internally? So, Ian Rappaport, what's the best story
that comes to mind for you of a team trading
up and nailing it? Outside of Xavier Worthy and the Chiefs,
I don't know how they blitzed the Bills like that.
Those guys, I couldn't believe that trade. But what's the.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Best to be totally fair, like, I'm not sure what
Exavier Worthy ends up being and correct. You know, he
had the off the field stuff this year and he's
not a traditional receiver, so like, you know, the jury's
still out on that on that on that trade. But sorry,
So what you're wondering.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Is the best the best trade up story that you
can remember and the best trade down story you can remember?
Speaker 4 (07:44):
Yeah, I mean, I would say the best trade up
story always revolves around around quarterbacks. Now I have some
personal good trade up stories that I like. See It's like,
you know, the trader for Josh Allen worked, to trade
it for Mahomes worked. I mean, all of those I
think make a lot of sense. You know, I would
say the story I like about trading up did not
(08:07):
work out for the team. I heard a rumor that
the Saints were trying to trade up, like you know,
six years ago or something like that, and everyone thought
it was for Lamar Jackson, and I had a little
birdie tell me it was from Marcus Davenport. So I
sat on the broadcast and everybody thought it was crazy
that the Saints could trade up for Marcus Davenport. And
(08:27):
that's exactly what they did. And I was like, all right,
like I feel pretty good about that one, you know,
as far as as far as trading back, you know,
even like the one I think about is like, you know,
you're always giving up on a good player, right because
(08:49):
someone I was good enough somebody watch trade up for.
So when the Bills traded with the Chiefs, Chiefs came
up and took Mahomes, great trade. They won the trade
times a million. The Bills took an All Pro corner
in tradious white. Now he ended up tearing his achilles
and had a sort of a shortened career. I mean
he's still playing a guess, but a shortened career. But
that was an interesting one because one team took a
franchise quarterback, the other team traded back, took an all
(09:12):
pro corner, and got some big time draft equity that
they then used to select Josh Allen nice Ian.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
What are you hearing on Shidor Sanders.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
The Giants have been very private, so I think everything
you're hearing hearing is based on speculation and non information, right,
So I do not know what the Giants are doing.
Nobody knows what the Giants are doing. And even though
I'm a reporter and I want to know everything, I
(09:48):
would say I still do not know. But here's what
I know. If the Giants, no one has scouted the
Giants more than no one has scouted shud Or Standers
were in the Giants. I'm not sure anyone's scattered any
prospects ever more than the Giants have scattered Shador Sanders.
They've be into so many games and then a pro day,
at a visit, at dinner with them, they've been to practices,
(10:12):
they've done everything. If they think Shador Sanders is a
franchise quarterback, they should take him at three. If they don't,
they should not take them. But if they do, people say, oh,
those three is early, Like just take them like history
shows you like a guy enough. Just take it. It's quarterback.
It's a crapshoot. No one knows. And that's what I
(10:32):
would say.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
And Ian to you, are the Browns a lock for
Abdual Carter at too? I just see that that would
be a nightmare for any offense if you've got, you know,
Miles Garrett on one side and Abdual Carter on the other.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
I don't know, but it feels to me like they're
more Travis Hunter than Abduall Carter. And look for the draft,
so I catch everything by saying nobody really knows, but
that's just in my general feel, and it's probably more
likely Hunter than it is Carter, which you know. Then
if the Giants take should at three, like where does
(11:09):
Carter go? And that becomes the most interesting thing in
the draft.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
The last couple here for you, Ian, always appreciate the time.
Very busy week, I know for you guys. So yeah,
at the top of the drafts feeling pretty good about
cam Ward. There you talk about Travis and then I
guess it would be Abdual Carter, assuming that they don't
go shut door standers there for the Giants at three.
Number four with the Patriots is in a lot of ways,
I feel like, maybe offensive line. So rumors reports that
(11:33):
Jacksonville might want Ashton Jenny at number five, what do
you do you buy any of that?
Speaker 4 (11:40):
I buy some of it. I mean, he is a
great player. They have a team that could use really
great players. They have a quarterback that can use weapons.
I think there, if you're Jacksonville, you really just want
the best player you can get, and you know, maybe
it's gent, maybe it's a maybe it's probably not a tackle,
(12:03):
but just take the best, most explosive, most fun player
you can. So if it's genty at five, I would say,
I don't see anything wrong with that. Like, if he
could go six to the Raiders, he can for sure
go five to the Jaguars, right, So I don't think
that would be crazy.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
And Ian last one for me, I'm all, what are
you looking for On the periphery of the draft, I'm
always looking for like the uncle that steps in front
of the camera, you know. Ceedee Lamb had the great
moment where he took his phone back from a significant other, like, well,
what's the thing that you're looking for?
Speaker 4 (12:38):
I will be curious should or Sanders is going to
have a party, Like what presence does Dion have? The son?
Is he in the background? Just kind of like where
does it all fit in? How does he all fit?
And that's going to be one of those things up
(12:59):
I'm looking well.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Now we are too, and that's a great point, very
good stuff. Hey, wait, Ian, it's gonna be a lot
of fun.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
I know you guys, Gon have some tremendous covers there
on NFL Networks starting at six o'clock and we can't
wait to check in with you next week when it's
all over with the dust settles and we get a
chance to react to all of it.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Really appreciate the time I've friend you.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
All Right, sounds good, guys, Take care all.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Thank you, Ian Rappaport. We'll get that interview up.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Really fascinating stuff there. We'll react to that cut, he said.
When I asked him about trading up, he said, I
could absolutely see the Broncos trading up, and he said,
not for running back. He sees it for a receiver.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
There's not a receiver I'm thrilled about in this draft
at all.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
What about Matthew Golden, Na, what about Tech McMillan.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
McMillan maybe more than Golden and both good players, don't
get me wrong. And receiver is the hardest position to
make an impact in in the NFL, going from college
to the NFL. It's harder than quarterback. You don't ask
me how I'm neither quarterback nor receiver, although I would
have been a great tight end and still would have
been playing Ryan if they let me. But I just
(14:03):
received first round receivers. To me, they have got to
be Julio Jones, Andre Johnson. They've got to be so
clearly dominant, like Jeremiah Smith's going to be a top
three pick in two years and that's that's where he belongs.
But that's the kind of caliber receiver I think you
need if you're going to use a first round pick.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
All right, we will react to that coming up in
a little bit, but we're thrilled. Next coming up in
just a few minutes, Monte Ball. You mean announcing the
second round pick of the differ Broncos. He'll join us
next Monte ball joining us right now on the hotline. Monte,
is so great to catch up with you, man. How
are you what you think about that?
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Introy?
Speaker 7 (14:42):
Oh my goodness, Fellas, that was actually incredible. Thank you,
Thank you as always for it. You guys are you
guys literally the best, So thank you.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
It's amazing to talk to you every time. Monte. I
just think you're You're an amazing, high character person. Really
loved watching you play. Well, let's talk about how the
Broncos reached out for you. Do you have a job
with the Broncos again, probably unpaid, unwilling to imagine, but
nonetheless you how did it come about that you'll be
announcing the second round pick for the Broncos.
Speaker 7 (15:11):
Hey, yeah, I tell you on that. It's it's uh,
it's a dream come true. Honestly, like, as everyone knows,
grew up a Broncos fam my whole life. And so
how it happened is, you know, the alumni coordinator, being Dominic,
reached out, gave me a call and you know he'll
either text a lot, but this time of course he
called and was like, oh, Dominic's.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
Calling, and of course alert he asked me.
Speaker 7 (15:32):
Yeah, he was like, would you you know we we
were talking and and we decided to throw your name
in the hat to call out our fifty first pick
in the second round. And I of course said absolutely yes.
And so seriously, fellow dream, I'm true it's this. I'm
very grateful, I truly am.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
What do you remember about your draft day when you
became a Denver Bronco. Yeah, I remember vividly.
Speaker 7 (15:58):
I just remember sitting down and had my phone propped
up right. I was at a banquet hall, just in
a hotel, and I had assume was constant friends in
his family right in attendance. And you know, as the
draft was going on, and I knew I was gonna
go first round, so I was like, all right, guys,
when come back second day, I should get picked up
somewhere here. And as I'm sitting down, you know, family
(16:19):
and friends behind me, eating drinking beverages, et cetera, having
a good time. And I was super nervous, just sitting
down staring at my phone, and then all of a sudden,
all of a sudden, it fell because it started to vibrate.
I picked it up and it was three oho three
number and said Denver, Colorado. And I was ecstatic.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Of course, I started hitting my dad.
Speaker 7 (16:39):
I showed him the phone, I said, Denver Colorado. He
started tearing up. I started tearing out. My mom of course,
was a mess in a good way. And then it
was a remarkable moment.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
What kind of advice would you have given yourself with
what you know? Now back to that version of you
that was getting ready to come into the league and
a lot of these young men they are getting ready
to be drafted, what do you what do you what
would you impart to them as they're getting ready to
go on this journey?
Speaker 7 (17:05):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, wonderful question. Honestly, I would, I would.
I would tell them, you know, don't take any any
moment for granted, don't take any moment for granted. And
that's honestly what I would have told myself as well.
You know, once I was drafted, and of course, hindsight
being twenty twenty, I kind of felt like, all right,
I made it, which is not the case at all as.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
Of right now.
Speaker 7 (17:24):
Once you get drafted, you have a seat at the table,
but you better bring some substance with you because there's
players gunning for your position every single week.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
You have to be the.
Speaker 7 (17:33):
Best every single day and continuously, you know, prove yourself.
And so that is the advice I would give them myself,
And of course the advice that I give to our
youth today is is, hey, it's it's going to end quickly,
and more times than not, it's going to end when
you don't want it to end. So absorb it all
and don't take anything for granted.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
One of the things too, we're talking to Monte Ball,
the Legend, will be announcing the second round pick for
the Broncos this week. One of the things is you
have to learn football again kind of And for me
Vonte as alignment, it was jumping the count. What were
the two or three things that were really different that
you had to relearn as a running back when you
got to the NFL.
Speaker 7 (18:13):
Yeah, it's it's you know, I think my experience of course,
and all the other rookies of course on the offensive
side of the ball that came in with me as well.
Just practicing and obviously playing with the great Peyton Manning, right,
Just understanding the mindset, understanding.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
Pre snap reads, right, that is.
Speaker 7 (18:32):
Something that's of course I did it a little bit
at Wisconsin, but we ran the football ninety eight point
seven percent of the time, and so yes, this pre
snap breeds prior to the run. But I'm telling you what,
when you get into the NFL, of course, path protection
is extremely important, and so pre snap reads was something
that I had to really hone in on and understand.
(18:54):
And of course it was heightened because it was the sheriff, right,
and so that that was something as well.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Do you think we're seeing a bit of a I
guess a renaissance or revitalization of the running back position.
Considering was Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry, Joe Mixon. I
mean a lot of these guys that went to new
teams this year all had spectacular seasons. It felt like
just a few years ago we were talking about maybe
the death of the running back, and now it seems
like every team's out there going like we need to
find one of these kinds of guys.
Speaker 7 (19:19):
Absolutely absolutely, and I'm very happy about it. I think
Saquon and obviously Derrick Henry's right, these these these these
phenomenal running backs I've been revitalizing that night, and I'm
excited to see it because that position, it was sad
to see it was dying. It wasn't being valued the
way that it should be valued. And I'm like this,
the run game is so important for an offense to
keep the defense, you know, honored, like they have to
(19:43):
honor their run. You don't want to be so one dimensional.
And so for me being biased being a running back,
I absolutely love to see that. And you know, of
course with with the Broncos offense, with bo Nicks having
a great rookie season, in my opinion, I think that's
obviously the position that we need to improve in u Man,
I know, I know Peyton is for sure looking at
some cats right now in the draft that we might select.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
Well, let's talk more about that running back position. Monte.
I would never want to be a running back, I
said as a ten year NFL lineman, I don't know
how you guys do it well? Who hit you the hardest?
And when was it?
Speaker 4 (20:19):
You know?
Speaker 7 (20:19):
I get that question a lot, and I think I'm
pretty sure I got it right. I think it was
London Fletcher his last year with the Redskins, I think,
and it was obviously my rookie year. Second down goal line.
Peyton checks to a run from the gun. Right, I'm like,
all right, this is four yards. I got this, just
fall forward right, boom, plays snaps, pull opens up my eyes,
(20:40):
get wide. Fletcher standing in there and smacks me man,
and my whole right side was numb.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
I had to come out.
Speaker 7 (20:49):
I started patting my helmet so I can so I
could come out, and I will never.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
Forget that hit.
Speaker 7 (20:55):
Never forget that hit because it you know, there wasn't
that much difference between us, so it was actually very
impressive how he was able to generate so much power
off of what two steps.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
Impressive.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
That is impressive. Last one, Monte, and again, we're thrilled
to have you on here. Thrilled that you're going to
be announcing the second round pick. Are you prepared for
the fact that the Broncos could trade back? You have
to be announcing multiple second round picks. Are you a
fired up for that possibility.
Speaker 7 (21:18):
I'm very fired of for the more the merrier. Right again,
it's fellas you know, all jokes aside, right, it's truly
the full circle moment. My room was blue and orange
growing up. I had a twelve Davis fathead. I had
the Broncos wooden logo on my room starting at the
age of eight until I left for college right at
the age of eighteen.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
And so.
Speaker 7 (21:39):
This is I'm very grateful for the organization, right and
hopefully this shows everybody else, shows the community. That's what
a wonderful alumni program at this football club has. And
so I'm excited and if I have.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
To call out ten picks, I will do so.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
All right, you hear that, George, You got your work
cut out for you. Monte Monte man.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
We we could be more thrilled for you and your
process and your progress as a human and we certainly
love that we got a chance to chat with you today.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
Thank you.
Speaker 7 (22:11):
I look forward to chatting with you guys again, but
thank you again for having me.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Definitely, he's Monte ball. That's cool. What first of all,
phenomenal intro that was outstanding.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
You got to give WrestleMania was yesterday. I mean, you
got to give the intro. Man just what separates you
from everybody else?
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Tremendous, tremendous and he is such a again you brought
it up, the story, his path to where he is now.
It's just it's just sort of remarkable, and it reminds
you that that in a lot of ways, everybody's redeemable, right,
no matter what, no matter what you've gone through.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
And again, you guys can google his his journey to
this point.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
But the fact is he's calling. He was a second
round draft pick for the Broncos. He was imprisoned at
one point, and now here he is, I announcing a
pick for the Broncos in the second round.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Goosebumps kind of stuff.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
Yes, I mean, I got him right now. I want
to double click on one of the things he said.
I mean, Don GASPARI the Denver Broncos one of the
things that fans may or may not have seen. They
have now the best alumni program in all of the NFL,
and it's not even close. And the foresight, the awareness
to say, let's put Monte ball back on this list.
(23:28):
I mean, what it does for Monte who's wherever he
is in the world, to get a call again by
the Denver I mean, for him, it's got to be
like getting drafted a second time. And what the Broncos
have done with the alumni is really remarkable. They're the
best in the NFL. And the other thing goal line.
I guarantee you you ask an NFL player where they
got hit the hardest in what game they're going to
(23:49):
talk about that goal line area all the time? Is
whoof souls are snatched in those three between three yards?
And I'll tell you what, you might not be safe
if you get into the end zone too, you might
get hit again.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
That's incredible, Yeah, it was impressive. Is that the one
position you said you would never want to running back?
Then that the one like a scee. For me, it
would always seem like put returner would be the worst
job to have. You're hardly working, you're fair catching half
the time.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
What the heck?
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (24:20):
Okay, yeah, yeah, No. The thing that I would the
reason I would never be a running back, it's not
the first hit, it's the second and there. I mean,
watch next time you see a running back carry the ball,
If they don't go down with that first running back
or first tackler, they are getting smoked. I mean full
freight train and a guy gets to line it up.
(24:41):
Oh he's especially when a running back is kind of
like pushing his feet into a guy. It's like, all
do that rib It's so and the sounds man I'm
telling you, if you ever get the chance, Broncos fans,
football fans, try and get one game as close as
possible to the field, because when you hear these hits,
you think someone died. And like multiple times in a game,
(25:02):
you'll be like, oh my gosh, they're dead. Running back, jumps,
back up.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
You know.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
Ronnie Hillman want a small little guy, but man, he
would take hits after hit and it's a second and
third hit. I would drop the ball every time, right,
I think, yeah, you sold me.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
I'm good. I don't think that I ever want to
do that, not that I have.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
You're a pair, you know, you can handle one kid.
If that second kid comes to hit you when you're
you know, when you're playing around or is wrestling, they're
getting a kidney shot, right and they know it, and
they know it, it's worse.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
It's worse. I want to go back to what Ian's
Rappaport said. We had him on moments ago and if
you're just now joining us, there was a lot of
buzz this morning about the Broncos being one of the
teams that it might be restling trade up now.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
It smokes screen season. We understand it's the week of
the draft.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
It's an invitation to call the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
There's all sorts of reasons why this stuff gets out.
You just said it right there. They want teams to
know that that's a possibility. I in my opinion, George
Peyton has been very good over the time that he's
been with the Broncos of just gathering information, gathering interest,
gauging what the market for any spot in the draft
(26:10):
would be. And so sometimes, like for example, with Cooper
cup and I think it was t Higgins and other
receivers in free agency, the Broncos were tied to all
those guys because the Broncos did call. So what's the price?
Oh it's that Okay, we're out, but we're not gonna
tell you that. We're just gonna find out what the
price is. So here, when you get the news this
morning that I'm chefter, Albert Breer, Brian brot Us are
(26:32):
all out there saying the Broncos might be aggressive in
the draft and trading up. We asked again Rappaport moments
ago about that same thing.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
Here's what he said, If the Broncos were aggressive in
the first round, that wouldn't surprise me. I mean Sean Payton. Well, one, look,
you always hear rumors about everyone, and I do hear
the Broncos have been making calls about potentially moving up.
One good thing about Sean Payton is he's done it before.
So when rumors circulate, everyone knows, like, all right, like
(26:59):
this is possible, Like at least it's not nonsense. It's
something that could absolutely be real. Right. I'd be surprised
if it as a running back. I wouldn't be surprised
if it was for a receiver. And I know that
they've sort of said like they're happy with the receivers
and all that. I just sort of wonder, like, is
there a receiver they like enough where they say, like
(27:19):
it's not a great receiver group, it's okay, not a
great receiver group. Do they have to trade up for
one to get the kind of quality they want? Maybe
maybe would sort of fly against the conventional wisdom and
what they've said, But I think back to last year
kind of like knowing what they said and then what
they did, they're sort of like two oposite things. So
we'll see. But I wouldn't be surprised if they spiced
(27:41):
it up a little bit in the first one.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
So he brings up a good point there, right, because
that is exactly what they have been saying all off seasons.
We like our receiver room. And I hate to get
into the four D TSS you know where we read
into everything.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
But he's right.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
I mean the fact that they continue to say we
were happy with the receiver room. It would be so
like an NFL team to say something very consistently all
off season and do the opposite of it.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
Well, no, it happens all the time, actually doesn't it, though?
You know? The question to me is, and it sounds strange,
It's going to depend on what the Raiders do. Again,
the Raiders agents of chaos, right If they do something
that no one's planning for, that to me is going
(28:33):
to give the Broncos the opportunity to jump up. You're
gonna pick six at pick six if they don't go
quarterback or running back, right like, if they get a
defensive end or a corner.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
Quarterback because they just up genails.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
You can't ever know what the Raiders are doing. All
of them have criminal intent, every single member, every single fan,
Yeah said it. I've lived it. This is my personal experience.
You have no concept of what chaos is between. The
only good thing about the Raiders is the Autumn Win song,
you know. And I had to play it for my
son because my youngest is like the epic.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
Yeah, yeah, it's the only good It's the best thing,
you know. I mean, it's the only thing they have going.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
For Tim Rice down, Dave Casper, Okay, Notre Dame, guys,
no problem, justin Tuck for a little bit. But you
don't know what they but if they go corner, now
you're gonna see chaos, right because now you have every
single team behind them immediately thinking about decisions they didn't
understand was even possible. Right, And then do you trust
the Jets to right make the right decision? Thank you Panthers.
(29:33):
They haven't. They haven't hit in the draft since Williams
the running back, right, I mean, come on, so now
you're starting to see where that chaos can happen. I
just if you if you're looking at receiver, I think
you went receiver last year with Troy Franklin. You've got
a steel in Vley, absolute steel in Vley, and you've
(29:54):
got you've got some some options around the rest of
the rosters. So you know, and especially for Sean Payton.
One of the biggest things that's known in the NFL
is receivers love playing for Sean Payton. So is he
able to get a different receiver out of a team
that may or may not want that receiver. I mean,
if somebody does draft the receiver in the first round,
(30:16):
are they willing to part ways with the vet? He
loves veteran receivers because there's a lot that he does
in that offense. I just it would be so I
would be shocked. I'll give you a milkshake. How about that?
If the Broncos a milkshakes. I'll just even say this,
if they draft the receiver in the first round, I'll
give you a milkshake.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
I don't think they're doing it, even if they're staying
padded twenty, even if.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
They're padd at twenty, no chance to me.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
But you feel like they could beat on tight end,
which is.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
I think tight end is the biggest glaring need. You
haven't had it here for five years? Well, I mean
you end, yeah, yeah, so you got one right. It's
like the quarterbacks list of the Browns.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
We start talking about Tyner Troutman on the roster, Lucas
Kroll on the roster.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
Yeah, should play baseball. Told him that to him too.
You got a ninety two fastball and you're catching passes
like I got questions.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
He is an unbelievable athlete. Listen, I understand what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
I mean that they haven't had a genuine tight end
threat really since Julius Thomas in a lot of ways
like that was the last one.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
Oh and Daniels the second greatest tight end in in
Broncos history.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
Now, don't don't even are you kissing.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
Another that's got a ring?
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Well, Shannon Sharp obviously number one. Yeah, Julians, And half
of that.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
Is because he said call the house. That clip is
one of the all time. I mean, arguably that clip
made NFL films right like everybody wanted to see him.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
It's one of the greatest, is one of the greatest
down bites of all time. Call the National Guard the Patriots.
But Lizabeth, I understand your point. I'm not I'm not
saying you don't address it. I think there's some options.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
I've said two touchdowns an the AFC Championship game against
the Patriots on the first team ever to be the
Patriots twice in the year.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
First of all, Colston Level has got an injury, so
there's an expectation that that he is not coming into
the NFL healthy, that he may be all their bora.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
I haven't liked him from the beginning. I watched the film.
I told you what, I think.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
You're a Tyler Warren guy.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
I'm a tie Warren guy, the Arroyo kid.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
I really like you get him on day two.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
You get him on day two.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
I don't know, Okay, but you know the other about.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
What about Taylor? Mason Taylor out of l s U.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Not a big fan of l s.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
You can if you just say you're tell you the experience.
But all L s U players.
Speaker 8 (32:26):
Named me a great outside of Jamar Chase, Justin Jefferson. Okay,
there's two, Joe Burrow three. I'm sorry, you can't even
say that without laugh. So you got three great players
out of l s U.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
What about ob Ja huh Odell Beckham?
Speaker 3 (32:47):
Did he win?
Speaker 4 (32:48):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (32:48):
He did get a ring with the Rams.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
He's a very Yeah, I get a ring with the
Rams and he's a good wide receiver.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
So he got four.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
I can't keep going. Do you want me to keep.
I want you to try. What about Patrick Peterson, Come.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
On, great athlete, his career, Okay, but they've won in
this span of players. They literally won two national champions
Like somebody who says Chase I listened five.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
You're like, yeah, but four.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
I mean Patrick Peterson, great guy, love him a lot,
all right, So you just you scratch off all players
are typically they peak in college. They typically peak in college.
Now Joe Burrow, Cigar smoking, Natty winning, Joe Burrow, Yeah, man, okay,
(33:35):
but generally where is Lloyd Cushionberry these days?
Speaker 2 (33:38):
He's still with the Broncos, the higher in history.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
How's that working out?
Speaker 1 (33:44):
I don't know. You got hurt last year?
Speaker 3 (33:46):
Huh?
Speaker 1 (33:48):
What do you mean?
Speaker 3 (33:49):
I'm just saying, in my ten year experience in the
NFL and my now nine year career as a broadcaster,
you're not getting a lot from LSU players out side
of the spectacular. Justin Jefferson, Jamar, Chase and Joe Burrow, who,
by the way, all played there at the same time.
I don't think they made each other better. You couldn't
(34:10):
even say Lloyd Cushion Bert with I'll laugh on your face.
Do you think the Titans made a good move, making
him the highest paid center. Well, well, you don't know
because they don't have a quarterback. You are paid to
give your opinion. Do you believe the Titans made the
right choice? And now, by the way, he's not the
highest paced center anymore. Jergons for the Eagles is.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
Now today today, but he was last year of free agency,
was the highest pace center.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
Do I believe they didn't make the playoffs? Did they
go ahead? Grant? Okay, just saying you gotta look out
for And here's another thing you gotta look out for
Liman who are coastal coastal Liman, meaning like anywhere by
the beach.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
It's hard to get him motivated. I think you're way
off on this.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
You say a lot of very smart things, but all
of a sudden, I turn it off.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
This one, this one right here.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
You're an experience, lived experience.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
You're swinging out of your shoes. If you're just saying like,
I'm ignoring now, if you wanted to come at me.
Speaker 3 (35:08):
With ignoring him, I'm just saying they have to be spectacular.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
If you wanted to come at me with like, hey,
I'll never draft an Alabama quarterback or something like that.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
It was like, all right, maybe that that one.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
How about that you talk about Alabama Evan Evan Mathis
is the greatest Alabama NFL player in the last thirty years.
Oh my god, seriously outside of Jalen Hurts. Now it's
Jalen Hurts and Evan Mathis.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
But you ignore all their wide receivers that that have
been in the league, that have had success in the league.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
Just we're ignoring all. But he hated down to Devonte
Smith and all of a sudden, he's a Super Bowl champion?
Speaker 1 (35:44):
What about Patrick?
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Stan got a lot of love for Patrick's or Tan
You better have a lot of love for Patrick see.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
Better than Evan Mathis though, super Bowl champion. Evan mathis
a defensive MVPT diamonds that you don't pay for. Which
one would you want? I rest my case. You're honored,
all right, we'll come back. We have we have more
things to react to when it comes to the draft.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
It's really that I'm drafted. L s U players are
fast players. Bruh, bruh. I think Basicon Taylor is gonna
be an absolute beast of the next one.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
He would be the first tight end on L s
u to be, to be a beast, I doubt that.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
I you know, I will look that up. I will.
I will look that up.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
I can't wait. No, I can't wait for that list
of zero.
Speaker 1 (36:35):
All right, we'll get to Diggs
