Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everybody. It is the KSR pre Show. It's Monday,
February third. I am Shannon the dude to be enjoined
by a Billy Rutlig and you can give us a call.
Let's talk about it. Eight five nine two eight oh
twenty two eighty seven. It's Clark's pumping shot phone line.
You can also be our whiskey thief call of the
day KSR pre Show being brought to you by Italics
Fine Italian Donning in Lexington. And the text line, by

(00:23):
the way, is also five h two two sixty five
six six five six for those of you who can't
call in Billy. It's Monday, beautiful day. At least it's
supposed to be later today. I think it's supposed to
get up to like seventy degrees. And I know that yesterday,
yesterday was like Groundhog's Day, right, So pucksatani Phil apparently
saw his shadow.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
And it's six more weeks of winter.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
But we're getting seventy degrees here in Kentucky today, So
eat it, Pucksatani Phil, you're wrong.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Oh I missed that holiday. I forgot about that until
you just said it. Shannon. So glad that I guess
that went off without a hitch. I wish I could
see you this morning as not able to connect on teams,
but you said, let's talk about it. You sound like
my therapist a little bit this morning. Is it gonna
be a therapy session for Big Blue Nation after which
just happened?

Speaker 1 (01:08):
I think it probably needs to be. I think it
needs to be for a lot of us. Man, my
friends were like, oh, I never had a game affect
me so much. I'm like, really, like, I know that.
Here's the thing, Like, we'll get into it in just
a minute, because I want to talk about something else
before we actually start talking about Kentucky Arkansas. But it
affected like some of my friends so much till they
were they were genuinely upset and couldn't go to sleep

(01:31):
Saturday night because of the game. And I'm like, man, like,
I don't know about you, billy, Like I love watching
the games. I get into it while it's going on,
but when the game's over, I've decided that I do
not let, you know, college basketball players or college football
players affect my happiness for the rest of the weekend.
You know, I'm like, yeah, you're not gonna let cal

(01:52):
steel your George.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
That's right, that's right now.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Before we get into it, though, I got to tell
you last night, Billy, I got to see when one
of my favorite comedians.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Of all time, Ron Tater Salad White, you know, oh yeah,
we were talking about this.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
I was the show Ron White from the Blue Collar
Comedy Tour. It got to start with Jeff Foxworthy. It
was great, It was great. It was at the Lowal
Palace Theater. I went with with Sarah and then TJ
make Them Pay Smith and his lovely wife and we
went out, had dinner and went to the show.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
It was great, man.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
It was so much fun going to see Ron White
because I remember like the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, and
when that DVD came out, it sold, like I think,
I think you said, like ten million copies of that
and that's when they kind of blew up.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
So he was hilarious. He didn't really tell though.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
I was hoping he would play some of the greatest hits,
Like I don't go to a whole lot of comedy shows,
but you know, even though I'm sure as a comedian,
they want to keep it fresh and like tell stuff
that you haven't heard yet instead of just repeating the
same old stories and same old jokes. I feel like
some of those, like the ones that you know them for,
the jokes and stories you know them for, they should
do that like every show. You know, It's kind of

(03:02):
like when you go see Leonard Skinner, you want to
hear Freebird.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Right, Oh, so you want the hits from the comedian?

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Well yeah, I mean I think like a good mix.
But like you know, if you've got a story that
you're known for, like your your nickname is Tater Salad
because of the story that you talk about getting thrown
out of a bar in New York City, I kind
of want to hear that that story, even though I've
already heard it a dozen times. Are you not like that?
When you go see a comedian? Do you want to
or do you just want to hear completely new material?

Speaker 3 (03:26):
You know?

Speaker 2 (03:27):
I honestly, I don't know if I see enough comedians
to be able to know their jokes. The only comedian
that I've seen more than once is Daniel Tosh Shannon,
and I don't think he repeated any jokes, just because
it was like the tour had a different theme every
time I saw him. But I think there's something to
the nostalgia and kind of the the reason why you
became a fan of that person to play some hits.

(03:48):
But I love the Palace, so I bet you that
was a cool venue to watch that show. Did he
smoke a cigar and drink as much as he used
to or is he a little bit healthier in it?

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (03:56):
I don't think he drinks anymore. He did like ayahuasca
like Aaron Rodgers. He's completely he's sipping on something up there,
but I'm guessing it's like I don't know, diet coke,
and he's like he's smoking on something, but I don't
really see smoke rolling out.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
I think it's just a prop at this point.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
He's basically like try Off the comic insult dog that
just has a cigar hanging out of his mouth, but
he's not smoking it. So but he was great. It
was good hanging out with TJ.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Smith.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
You know the great thing about TJ. I make him
pay every time we go out.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Oh very good. And the good thing is too.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
You know, when you go on a night out on
the town with your lawyer, it's kind of helpful, you know,
because if things go down, your lawyer is right there.
You know, he can just put on his blazer and
clip on a tie and your lawyer's right there ready
to go to represent you.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
So you're saying you feel pretty safe walking around with
your lawyers. Oh, yes, he could step in and maybe
mitigate a situation that you may not know what to
do in. I'm sure that is I'm sure a little
bit reassuring to have TJ right next to you.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
But yeah, it was a good weekend, other than, of course,
the game on Saturday night, which was no laughing matter,
Kentucky losing to Arkansas. John Caliperi, you know, Billy, we
talked all week last week about well, we're gonna boot Cow,
We're gonna cheer Cal. We put very little thought into
is Cal actually gonna come in and beat Kentucky, because
I thought, you know, that's not gonna happen. Arkansas is terrible.

(05:19):
They're one and six in the conference. They can't shoot
the ball, they're just not a good team. And what
happens Saturday night, John Caliperry comes in and he does
what he did a lot of times at Kentucky, I
mean over the last few years when you kind of
counted him out.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
He comes in pulls off a win, and look, I.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Know that meant a whole lot to John Caliperry, he
said in his postgame press conference. Billy, it's just another game.
You know, we just needed this win. YadA, YadA, YadA.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Come on.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
You know it meant a lot to caw to come
into Rapperina and win that game on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Did it not?

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Well?

Speaker 2 (05:52):
I think it meant a lot to a lot of us, Shannon.
I mean, this was this is like the ex girlfriend
coming back and you want to you want to win
the divorce. So far a lot of people, and I
think for us, it was you can't lose February first
to John Caliperi in Arkansas the worst shooting team in
the SEC, Shannon, they had the worst percentage in two
point field goal percentage and three point field goal percentage

(06:13):
going into that game, and Arkansas just happens to shoot
fifty five percent from the field and fifty two percent
for three.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
It was.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
It was simply incredible the atmosphere in rupp Arena before
that game started. And You're right, I do feel a
little silly after we talked about should we boo, should
we cheer for a week and then Arkansas ends up
actually winning the game. So you know, it's a shame
because it was such a cool atmosphere, not only in
Kspar and Girl for the pregame, but for the game.

(06:41):
Sounded like there were some booze. I thought it was
a little bit more fifty to fifty than maybe some
expected it to be, Shannon. But obviously the boos are
louder than the silence or the polite applause. But you
know what, with people lining up since seven pm Friday
night to get into rupp Aerna, the excitement was there.
But you know, I was telling you before the show started,

(07:02):
you could feel the crowd in the second half, you
know how nervous they were. And in Kentucky played nervous,
they played tight, Arkansas played loose. They felt like they
just wanted it more than Kentucky. They really wanted it
for John Caliperi and the three players DJ Bigzi and
Adu Theierra A Thero combined for fifty two points after

(07:23):
the three combined for five points against Oakland last year. Shannon,
think about that fifty two points by those three players.
Happy they were able to get their revenge to a degree,
But where was that last year, and DJ Wagner's performance
in the second half was simply incredible. He was great
in that one. So it's a tough bill to swallow.
But you know, Shannon, I think I do agree with

(07:44):
cow a little bit. It's just a game in February.
You can move on. Arkansas really needed that win. The
season's not over for Kentucky. They can still you know,
do a lot, but this one hurt. There's no doubt
about it.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Yeah, I mean, I don't want to say that completely
negates that went over Tennessee, but it definitely is your first,
you know, disappointing loss. We've had some, but I mean
on the level of really disappointing losses, that was the
worst one of the season. I mean, there's no other
way to put it. Ark himself was struggling, you know.
And let's go back before we get too deep into
the weeds of the game itself, Let's go back and

(08:18):
talk about that atmosphere a little bit more. I Mean,
first of all, I want to commend the fans at
Rupp Arena. That was the loudest I can remember rup being.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Gosh, probably I.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Don't know, man, I'm trying to remember the last time.
I remember up being that loud. I mean, the fans
were in it, and you know the booze for John Caliperry.
I thought he was gonna get boot I mean he
was getting booed at the airport when he got off
of the plane. He was if you saw that on
what was it Friday night? But I thought the fans
were great. Unfortunately, Arkansas just looked like they wanted it more.

(08:49):
I mean they out hustled Kentucky, they out shot them.
They just they just out played them. I mean it
just you could tell it meant something to them. And
that's from the head coach coming down to the players.
I'm sure John Kellipiri was telling them, look, we need
this win. And look, the guys who played her last year.
You don't need to tell them that. They already know, right,

(09:11):
they already know. And I mentioned this on Friday. I
feel like it kind of got dismissed a little bit.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
But I feel like.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
There is some truth to the fact that those guys
z and Wagner and Theo, those guys have played a
lot of games at Roperena.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
They're not going to come in They're not gonna.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Be intimidated They're familiar with the atmosphere and they played
like it. They played like they weren't intimidated by the moment,
and you could see that on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Yeah, maybe Reperena at its loudest since the Big Z
debut when he had those threes in the behind the
back pass, and I remember that being loud, but maybe
pales into comparison the hype around the game on Saturday
and everybody being in their seats forty five minutes before tip.
Even in the game, it looked like Marii Williams was
dominating Big Z right. He would go down low and

(10:00):
just agree physically imposing. Amari was great in this one.
But ultimately, if if there is a takeaway from this game,
it's it's that this team is really struggling without a
starting point guard Lamont Butler out in this game again,
Kentucky more turnovers than assists in their last three games combined.
And also in this one, it's it's really been a
struggle with Laman out and kerk Crisis still out in

(10:22):
a boot. You know, Jackson Robinson was great, but the
guy's got to shoot more than nine shots. Shannon, he
was he was playing well, scored twenty points, but I
feel like he needs to do a little bit more,
even though he has slid over to that point guard spot.
But uh, this is just this is just unbelievable that
Kentucky lost to that team that was one in six
in the SEC just limping into this game. But there's

(10:44):
a lot to be said about motivation, and these guys
were really motivated for this one. You know, we saw
a lot of stars in this game. Tubby Smith came
out as the why right, absolutely loved that. You know,
you had Randall Cobb court side. There were a few
celebrities out there. There was also like weird moments like
Arkansas goes on a fifteen to two run to start

(11:05):
the second half, and then it was like during a
time out, a student hits a half court shot to
win ten thousand dollars, and it's like we should be
excited for that, but we're so worried about John Caliperry
and getting this win. And I want to ask you, Shannon,
are you able to move on for this game or
do you feel like the honeymoon is over for Kentucky
and Mark Pope now, because like, no way, however you

(11:25):
cut this cake. This is probably the worst moment of
the Pope era so far. Yeah, but I mean it's
still very very early in the Pope era. I mean
we're just halfway through the SEC play at this point.
I mean we still yeah, a little past halfway are yeah, yeah,
but we still got a lot of season to go.
So yeah, I mean, it sucks to lose to John
Caliperry in Arkansas, but you have to put that one

(11:48):
behind you because Billy, they got a game tomorrow night.
You go down to Oxford.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
You don't want to, you know, be so concerned with
losing to Arkansas on Saturday that you know, you get
in your own head and.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
You drop another one to Old. They got to move
forward at this point. Yeah, but I'm not worried about
Ole Miss because it's a good team, Shannon, and this
Kentucky team plays well against good teams. It's just bizarre, right,
what are they six and one versus the top twenty
five and six wins versus the top fifteen something like that.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
The se in general's bizarre. It's what happened with Florida
and Tennessee. I mean, you know, right, Tennessee gets drawn
by thirty points at Florida and then Saturday, the same
two teams play, they play in Knoxville, this time in
Tennessee beats them bout twenty. So you know, it's yeah,
it's just hard to wrap your head around the SEC
as a whole. Yeah, anybody can beat anybody. Didn't give

(12:36):
There's just.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Some real concerns out of this game, not only just
the injury concerns from this team. You know, the Mountain
Mamba didn't play a minute Shannon. And I'm not one
to call into the Mark Pope Show and say and
be the first caller to say that, but you know,
I thought he played really well in the last two games.
Why not throw him out for at least a period
of time. The rotations were weird. You know, in the
first half, you're playing really well, and then a unit

(12:59):
like Bria Garrison and Travis Perry and they, you know,
they make some mass ubs. Colin Chandler comes in and
I know you're trying to buy some time for buy
some minutes for your starters, but it just it didn't
work out well. So, you know, this is a learning
process for Mark Pope as well, and hopefully this is
a learning experience about your team and what guys you
can rely on, because you may need to trim the

(13:20):
rotation down a little bit here as we get closer
to postseason play. But you know what, I think they'll
see him against Shannon. I think we get a rematch
with Arkansas maybe in the SEC tournam Well, I.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Hope not, because I mean Arkansas is going to be
playing the very first night, so I means Arkansas is
gonna have to win to get to where Kentucky is.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Well, Kentucky's middle of the SEC right now, shure that's true.
They'll be playing on four and four now. Yeah, with
eight teams playing on the first night of the SEC, true,
Kentucky might be playing on Wednesday as well. I mean,
it's not that far fetched to think. But you know
what they you know, like we said, it's been weird.
Kentucky's really good against good teams, and they've got a
good one against Old Miss coming up tomorrow on the

(13:57):
road as well.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
So the thing that bothered me the mo so I
think about Saturday's game is that they didn't just get
beat I feel like they got punked. I feel like
Arkansas came in and just punked them, just kind of
bullied them. And you know they didn't win by one
or two points. I mean they won they won by ten.
I mean at Roperina as a double digit dog.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Yeah right, I mean let that sink in for a minute.
That's concerning.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
And you know, I know you're without Krisa, You're without Butler,
you got car who's you know, playing through injuries and stuff.
But you know that you can't use that excuse. It's
not gonna matter moving forward. You got to just learn
to play through it. And you know, dropping a game
like that double digits to Arkansas is just nothing but
disappointing to me.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Well, I'll tell you what the most concerning thing was,
or my least favorite thing was from Saturday night was
all the former players in support of Cal over Kentucky Shennon.
I don't know if you want to talk about that. Yeah,
we talk about it next, But that was just that
was really disheartening, I thought. And a lot of controversy
surrounding reachets.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Yeah, we'll get into that. We'll get into that for sure.
You know I've said this before, or like I wondered,
when Cal left, do players feel more of an allegiance
to their coach or to the university that they're at
for a few months. And I think we kind of saw,
if you, if you were on online over the weekend,
a lot of the players kind of siding.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
With cal So, a lot of guys that didn't have
success at Kentucky siding with cal.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
Right.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
I didn't see a lot of guys that won championships
or did had a lot of successive Kentucky come to
Cal's defense. But the red thing is still bothering me
more than the Arkansas games. I don't know how hang
on to that.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
We'll talk about it coming up next. We got to
hit a break. We'll take your calls coming up as well.
Eight five, nine, two EIGHTHO twenty two eighty seven. Get
in and we'll talk about it coming up next on
the KSR pre Show. All right, welcome back. It is
the KSR pre Show.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
There it is, Well, you get to play this on
the postgame show. Who's gonna feed them hogs? Yeah? Fun?
After a lot? No, absolutely not on.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
One person writes in and asked, how much of the
booing do you think caused Arkansas players to turn up
the intensity a little more? None, Billy, I don't think any.
I mean, look, these guys. They get booed every road
game they go on, Right, that's the home fan base
is boo the opposing team. That happens at every gym
with every road team, every game. I mean, Arkansas just

(16:18):
came out and they played better. They played with more intensity.
They know how much of the games mean to their coach.
You know, we could have cheered the Arkansas players and
it wouldn't matter. They still came out and played better
and kicked our butt.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
That's it. That's the story. I don't think it matters. No,
I think you hit it. I mean they're booed in
every gym, and as a competitor, that should be something
that fuels you, right, and every game, not just this one.
But motivation levels were already high. I mean people were
booing them as they came off the plane, Shannon, and
they knew what this game meant to the former Kentucky
players in cal on that team. And credit to them,
they got it. You know, I was dog in ESPN's

(16:53):
decision to do College Game Day at that Duke North
Carolina game, especially since it was such a blowout early on, Shannon,
But maybe we're kind of glad they didn't show up
after Arkansas eventually got the win, but you know that
was eating some a little bit of crow there. But nevertheless,
they'll just move on because it's just one game. Draft

Four additional terms are responsible Gaming Resources, DKNG, dot CO,
slash audio. Okay, so let's talk more about Kentucky Arkansas.
Do you believe by the way Cali Perry when he
said Billy that he looked up at the scoreboard a

(18:07):
couple of times and thought that they were losing because
he saw Kentucky. He was looking at Kentucky's score instead
of Arkansas.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
Yes, I do think that's a real thing that happened, right.
You spent fifteen years at a place and you get
familiar with rep arena and you look out and your
team's actually on the other side of it. So I
do think that was the case. There was a little
scuffle near the end of the game in front of
the Arkansas bench as well, showing nothing too much to it,
but I thought that was indicative of just how that

(18:34):
second half went, man, because it was tough. Arkansas fled
loose and Kentucky they were scared to death. That felt
like did.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
You think it was a little bit odd how they
had John Calip Perry come into the tunnel to do
the interview instead of out there on the court like
they would normally do did you notice that?

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Are you talking about after the game?

Speaker 1 (18:50):
Well, it was before and after right like when they
talked to him. It wasn't out on the court at
any time, like I think normally they do those interviews
out there on the court.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Yeah, for the most part, I really didn't think about it.
You know, there was some talk about Cal scolding. Was
it Billy Richmond that was talking to Kentucky fans on
his way out? So you know that was interesting. I'm
sure he was getting called all sorts of names, But
you know what I didn't, I didn't notice the actual
where he was doing the interview thing very much.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
Yeah, if you saw like the video, like there's video
of the guys just like almost like hustling Cal Perry
off the court, and Cal's almost like in a jog
trying to get off the court to get to the interview.
I just wondered if that was like some sort of
security issue they thought maybe that, you know, fans might
throw something at them.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
I don't know what the situation. They didn't sell like
cans in the game, Like I think they changed at
Reperena what they were selling because they were afraid of
somebody throwing something at the players or cow so thought
by Repperena.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
There all right, So you were saying before the break
that the Reed Shepherd thing has really bothered you the
last couple of days. I think that that's probably the
same for a lot of our fans.

Speaker 3 (19:57):
You know.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
Yeah, Reed Shepherd wearing during hearing the warm up the
shoot around for the rockets, he was wearing Kentucky shorts
and an Arkansas razorback shirt. And I'm like, come on, dude,
you're a Kentucky guy, right, I mean, I know Calip
Perry is the coach at Arkansas, but you don't have
any affiliation to Arkansas other than Cali Perry being there.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
I thought that was a little odd, did you. I mean,
you clearly didn't like it for some reason. I'm fired
up about it, Shannon. It shouldn't bother me as much
as it does. But not only does Reed have ties
to the university, his whole family does, right. I mean
both his mom and dad went to school there. They
are legends at the University of Kentucky. Reid is legendary.
I mean, this is a Kentucky kid. Yeah, you spent

(20:42):
one year playing for John Caliperry, right, and you throw
that all away by wearing that Arkansas shirt. And now
he said he was trying to be funny and he
had some teammates on his Rockets team that were former
Arkansas players. It didn't. It didn't land well, Shannon, and
I think it probably goes a long way that Kentucky
lost the game, right, I mean, it's probably not even
a story if Kentucky were to win it. But you

(21:05):
can't put the Arkansas shirt on top of the shorts
shin and you got to do the reverse.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
Of course, because Arkansas their Twitter account just ran with that.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
Their fans love that Hogs on top. That was a
great I hate to admit they put Hey, that was
kind of a great tweet. I don't know. I mean,
I just I understand where he's coming from. He's trying
to support his coach, but it just I thought it
was a bad look. And could you not, if I
can ever forgive him.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
Could you could you not get like a John Calip
Perry shirt, Like why's it got to be Arkansas? You know, Like,
don't they make a Calip Perry shirt you could wear
with your Kentucky shorts.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
And a Jacob topping. Ty Ty Washington Davey on Mints
on Twitter after the game. Yeah, supporting their coach over
the university. It was. It was interesting to see that reaction,
There's no doubt about it.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
I got about forty five seconds before the break. So
let's go to Greg. Go ahead, Greg, Hey, Greg, Hey,
how you doing good?

Speaker 2 (21:56):
Go ahead?

Speaker 3 (21:56):
I was I was disappointed in the loss. Of course,
I've been a fan for fifty years, but quite honestly,
i've been I was more disappointed in the fans programs
to like your alls and ks are which are like
to boo or not to boo? I mean, whatever you
think of cal That man raised a hell of a
lot of money for people in eastern Kentucky and western Kentucky.

(22:20):
And to boo the guy.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
Yeah, yeah, it does hang out on I'm not glassless Taboo.
He's the opposing coach. We can separate the man from
the coach of an SEC school. I'm so tired to
break shut up.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Kasr apre Show eight five nine to eight oh twenty
two eighty seven.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
We're taking your calls.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
We didn't really get a chance to respond to that
last caller, Billy, But to say you're disappointed in the
fans is a joke. I'm not disappointed in the fans
at all. The fans were great. That was the best
atmosphere we've had. Like I said at Roperina in years,
I loved it. I thought it was great. Now we've
said that's how many times last week, Billy, I don't
understand the people who can't separate John Caliperry, the guy

(23:07):
who did all those great things for the state of
Kentucky and disaster relief and YadA, YadA, YadA. I got
those things great. I would applaud that every day. But
we're talking about John Caliperry, the opposing coach. You're booing
him because he's the Arkansas razorback coach and he's coming
to your town to try to beat you, which, by
the way.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
He did.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
So Yeah, if you want to boo John Calipery, no
problem with that. I'm glad that they did. I didn't
want to tell fans how to react. But Billy, I
don't understand people who can't separate sports hate from real hate.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
It's two different things. Yeah, I mean, critical thinking can
be tough, Shannon, but we've learned that. You know, common
sense is not very common anymore. And like for him
to highlight shows like Kastar who is rallying up the
fan base to Boo John Caliperry. These people can make
their decisions on their own, Shannon. We are here to
entertain you three hours of every day, you know. I mean,

(24:03):
it's not like you don't have to listen to us,
and you don't have to listen to what we tell
you what to do. So it's just let's all take
a deep breath and realize that this is the opposing
coach of an rival team, and we can separate that
just like.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
You said, just for a minute, Let's let's do a
little sidebar here and talk about the UK women's team
who won another game yesterday on the road.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
Georgia Amore.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
Massive game, forty three points, seven three pointers. This team
is now nineteen and two, Billy, we're talking about one
of the best teams in women's college basketball and another
huge road victory yesterday. Can't say enough about Kenny Brooks
and the job that he's done.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
Yeah, this team is really really good, Channing, and they're
fun to watch. I watched the second half of that
game on TV yesterday and Georgia Amore is just a
dog Shannon. Forty three points ties the program record for
most points in a single game, and on top of that,
she had eight assists. I mean, she is it all
for that team, and I love the celebration in the
locker room afterwards. That was a good Oklahoma team. They

(25:05):
were ranked thirteenth in the country. And I'm really excited
about what this Kentucky team can do in the postseason
this year. You know, Georgia is so tiny, but it's
the tallest Kentucky team ever besides that, right, I mean,
it's just like you've got redwood trees all on the
floor while Georgia Amore is just running wild. She has
a lot of fun to watch. And those forty three
points will be ones that are I think remembered for

(25:26):
a long time in the women's basketball history.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
Yeah, and they were, no doubt, the silver lining for
the weekend for all of the teche.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
Deaths a little bit. Yeah, so let's go to Michael.

Speaker 5 (25:37):
Good morning, Michael, Good morning, guys. First of all, yeah,
that last caller, he was a moron. But I will
say I gotta disagree with you guys as far as
just a game. You know, to me, there's only one
first time cal being back, you know, and this was

(25:59):
that one time, and we can beat him in the
SEC tournament, we can beat him again next year, but
that first time he is always going to be able
to hold over our head. And we've had to listen
to the fat past four years him talk about us
being basketball Bennie's and not knowing what we're doing, and
it's just been so frustrating and so knowing that he

(26:20):
got to walk out of there with a smile on
his face, it's so crushing.

Speaker 1 (26:25):
Yeah, I mean, he could hold it over our head,
but he didn't even I mean, he didn't really take
the moment to gloat during the postgame press conference.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
He just said, Hey, it's another game we needed to win.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
Now.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
I'm sure in his mind he could have went a
different direction.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
Yeah, exactly. He could see what I did there. Uh
I missed me yet, Yeah, but you.

Speaker 5 (26:42):
Know, you know, I think he did that subtle shot
when he said that. I kept looking at the scoreboard
thinking we were losing because I saw Kentucky was losing
to me.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
But he was telling that to his players though. That
was in the locker room. That wasn't during the postgame
press conference. So it's a little bit, Michael, I appreciate
the call.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
Thank you, And you know, I think the angle we're
taking at it is, you know, Cal won a lot
of regular season games at Kentucky, but what's been the
problem in the last four or five years he was
the coach. It was couldn't get it done in the postseason,
right when the games really mattered. So, you know, it sucks,
it does. This one hurts. It will be something that
we'll have to remember in the in the history of
Kentucky basketball. Right the game Cal came back, he got

(27:21):
the win, he had the weird facial expressions before the
game starts, and you know he got one over Pope.
But you know, ultimately this team will be defined on
what they do in March, and hopefully it's a little
bit better than what we saw on this weekend.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
And you should say, you know, if it bothers you
that much, at least take some I don't know, glee.
And the fact that Arkansas won't be playing in March.
They're not going to be playing in the NCAA tournament.
So and we know if we see Caliperi in the
SEC tournament with Arkansas, he won't care. He doesn't care
about the SEC tournament anyway, right, we knew that for years.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
I mean, I don't know, does this rally Arkansas, Shannon
DoD they just went out after this, John remembers how
to coach.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
No, they're bad, like Kentucky got beat by a bad
team on Saturday. Let's not lack like all of a sudden,
they're magically good. They just played their ass off. They
played their best game of the year.

Speaker 3 (28:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
The bottom line is you lost to a really bad
team right next to South Carolina, the worst team in
the SEC out of sixteen.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
A team that had hit like three three pointers in
their previous SEC game before the Kentucky game and then
had nine in the first half. Like it was just
it was. It was just not the Arkansas team that
we had watched all year long. And you got to
give them credit there. Let's go to Brandon Hey, Brandon.

Speaker 6 (28:31):
Hey, guys, I'm going to be a little positive this morning.
I thought Chandler was amazing fighting through some of those
screens on Saturday. I believe big Z pretty much got
owned when he was guarding Amari Williams and the paint
and to Greg and all the older women who have
crushes on Cal. I think it's like you all said,
it's pretty important to separate, you know, a sporting event

(28:54):
from say a celebration of life, which this wasn't. And
I like to see as another game because once we
start putting that much, putting other teams on that big
of a pedestal, I think it takes Kentucky down a notch.
And I would love to sing call home in the
SEC tournament. I think it would mean just a little
bit more. But thank you guys.

Speaker 4 (29:16):
I just love you all.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
Show yep, thanks for the call, Brad, thank you call.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
I appreciate that. Yeah, I mean that's the thing.

Speaker 1 (29:24):
It sucks right now, but you got to move on
right Like I was saying earlier, you got a game
tomorrow night.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
You can't.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
You can't still be thinking about John Caller Perry in
Arkansas tomorrow night because you got a really tough game.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
ACK's gotta have a short memory and hopefully you can
start to get healthier. Because you know, Colin Chandler, while
he did play well on defense, I'll give him that,
he is, he just struggles on offense. Shannon and Kobe
Brea another guy who just seems to struggle but right now, like,
who do you take him out for? Right he's a
defensive liability. But at the same time that the depth
hasn't looked good right now, and Pope's comments on Butler

(29:58):
weren't promising either.

Speaker 1 (29:59):
Yeah, that was the thing that was really the I guess,
biggest concern for me over the weekend. It was kind
of what he said after the game. You know, I'm
sure of when Lamont Butler will be ready to return.
You know, he's dealing with a shoulder injury, Billy. I mean,
I can tell you just from experience having shoulder and
shoulder injury in college playing baseball, shoulder injuries suck.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
They take forever to heal.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
So we could be looking at a long recovery time
for Butler, you know, like the way Pope talked, we
may not see him the rest of the year.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
Who knows. Yeah, and maybe that's just a you know,
a pain thing, right like how much pain and what's
your pain threshold? Maybe they throw him out there and
see if he can and go for a while, because
you know, Mark Pope talked about not losing any sleep
over sec Point Guards. But that was when you had
kerk Creese and Lamont Butler and DJ Wagner definitely took
advantage in that second half of that game, So they

(30:52):
definitely need those guys back.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
You know, we talked last week about Rick Patino's tweet
with Hilm saying.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
Hey you big Blue station.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
You know, tramp Grandpa trying to tell everybody how to
react to John Cala Perry. Did you see Richard Patino's tweet?
Because I think he had I think he had the
best tweet of the weekend.

Speaker 6 (31:10):
Did you see this?

Speaker 2 (31:11):
They did this? You have in front of you.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
Yeah, So Richard Patino tweets out sitting here at a
Starbucks and beautiful logan Utah waiting on a video from
Rick Patino telling the Utah State fans to be nice
to meet tonight.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
I love that's good. That's a little humor. I like that. Now, Like,
if you're a Saint John's fan, are you kind of
like what are you doing?

Speaker 4 (31:30):
Rick?

Speaker 2 (31:30):
Or do you understand that he was the former coach there?
He calls it came a lot. Yeah, I mean, is
that just come with it?

Speaker 1 (31:36):
I think probably if I'm a Saint John's fan, I'm
probably a little jealous. Like I feel like you kind
of love Kentucky more than you love us. But if
you're Saint John's, you also have to think about, Okay,
we're Saint John's.

Speaker 2 (31:46):
We've got one of the greatest coaches. I can't believe
they have Rick Patino.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
Yeah, one of the greatest coaches in modern college basketball.
So I think, yeah, if you're Saint John's, you just
gotta be happy that you have Batino there.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
You don't want to run him off, right, So yeah,
but like if he goes any the like if he
was at the Arkansas game on Saturday, like the same
day that they had played a game earlier, like he's
getting on a plane and going to rapp Arena, then
maybe you kind of have to talk to him. But
right now, I think they're fine with it. We'll just
see how long, you know, the fan base keeps up

(32:17):
with Ricketino advice. I'm a little upset with Rick Batino
and Saint John's. They cost me some money on DraftKings
over the weekend I had them. They did.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
I had them nine and a half over Providence and
they were up by like seventeen eighteen points.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
They almost blew that game.

Speaker 1 (32:29):
Providence comes all the way back and ties it up
and Saint John's hits like a last second shot to
win the game. But man cost me some money. But
same time, though, I'll tell you Saint John's is rolling.
What are they like nineteen and three or something like that.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
They're playing well, making some noise in the NCC NCAA tournament.
I think let's go to Free Bird. Hey, free Bird,
Oh my gods.

Speaker 4 (32:50):
A long time listener, multiple time caller.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
Yes, we're familiar.

Speaker 4 (32:56):
Hey, we can't be what you're saying.

Speaker 3 (32:59):
They played.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
We've got more games, We've had a good gears. We
want to get better. And I'll tell you mentioned the
security man. Cal had the Secret Service there before and
after he left the court. He had more security than
Donald Trump.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
That's what I was saying. You did you? Was I
the only one that noticed?

Speaker 1 (33:16):
How Like that guy grabbed John Caliperry by the arm
and like ran.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
With them like like yeah going man. They were like
in a hurry to get Calif the president over there.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
Yeah, like they were just hustling them off, like hurry up,
get out of here.

Speaker 4 (33:29):
Hey, we can't you know, I know a big blue nation.
We love our team, but sometimes we're just hard on people.
It's a loss. It's college basketball. You're gonna lose, especially
in the SEC when you have thirteen twelve or thirteen
top ten, top twenty teams get beat in one day.

Speaker 3 (33:47):
Man.

Speaker 4 (33:47):
Yeah, but appreciate me on guys, y'all have a great atty.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
Thanks for the call.

Speaker 1 (33:52):
Yeah, It's like I said earlier, Man, the SEC is
just hard to figure out, Billy.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
You have the thing with Tennessee and Florida.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
Thirty point win from one team and then you play
again and it's twenty the other way.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
The Vanderbult Oklahoma game, Vandy was up about like fifteen
in the first half, end up losing by thirty.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
Yeah, but ar kisaw stinks, Shannon, Like we watched them
all year be bad, right, I mean we circled this
day so long ago. I feel like we've talked about
it once a week for almost a year. It feel
like and uh, and it's just it's ultimately it's ultimately
really disappointing. But kind of like you said, you got
to be like the defensive back in the NFL. You
got to have a short memory. Can't let yourself eat

(34:31):
yourself up over a loss like this.

Speaker 1 (34:33):
Yes, speaking of eating if you're depressed, maybe you want
to go get a nice meal at Poppies and that'll
perk you up right on the hunt.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
Right, hey, Daman, they've got like two they got two
for one Margarita's Monday through Friday on a happy hour.
Also kids eat free on Wednesday. You gotta love that.
But you know, if you're looking for a place to
bring to sweetie, how about a Poppy's Mexican restaurant. They
have a Valentine's Day deal that you might be interested in.
Get an appetizer platter with mini taketos, colonos, a frio
squacamole in kso you get fajitas for two, whether it

(35:04):
be steak, chicken or shrimp, with those bell peppers and
pineapple as well two cocktails. You also get a dessert
all for forty five dollars. At Poppy's Mexican Restaurant watch
the games there you can get a big blue margarita. Also,
they've got some great street taco specials. Ten tacos for
twenty five dollars, twenty tacos for fifty, and maybe you
bring the whole group, get fifty tacos for one hundred

(35:26):
and fifteen dollars. You're looking for some authentic Mexican food
and Lexington poppies. Mexican Restaurant is the place to be
in the Palomar Fountains location or in Chevy Chase above.
Charlie Brown's all.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
Right, we'll take our final break, be right back. Take
more of your phone calls eight five, nine, two eighth,
twenty two eighty seven.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
It's the ksrpre show. Billy, do you know this song?
Of course, this was only everywhere this year or this
past year.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
Okay, well, we got Song of the Year. I didn't
know if you watched any of the Grammys last night.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
I did. I watched almost all of it, really, okay.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
Okay, was like three minutes. I'm like, nope, but I
don't know what any of this is. I had never
even heard of the song. That shows you how out
of it I am. But this guy song of the Year,
Kendrick Lamar not like us. Well, not only that, it
got Record of the Year.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
What's the difference between a song and a record, Shannon,
Because it's the album. It's like all the songs. Well, no,
there's an album too, Like there's Album of the Year,
there's Song of the Year. Then there's Record of the
Year and Kendrick Lamar's this song not Like Us won
both Record and Song of the Year. And I didn't know.
I didn't know what the difference was. Yeah, I thought
album and Record of the Year was the same thing.

(36:34):
I guess.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
I guess now the records are making a comeback. Maybe
it sold more actual vinyl records.

Speaker 2 (36:40):
No, Beyonce one Album of the Year and also Country
Album of the Year. Well she she won the Country
Album of the Year. The Cowboys ain't Hicks, I like
you were rendition of it better?

Speaker 4 (36:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (36:54):
Yeah, Country Album of the Year. Congratulations.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
And Shannon the dude at Billy r Sports on Twitter
one person rights and says, why didn't we bow Tubby
when he brought high Point into RUP he was an
opposing coach.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
I feel like it's a lot different.

Speaker 1 (37:07):
First of all, it's high Point and Tubby Smith was
not a polarizing figure like Cali Perry became to be
in his last several years here at Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
I think that's probably the difference. Billy. Yeah, him being
at high Point, I think is the biggest difference that
you need to hear. I mean, Cal left into the
same conference Shannon. I mean, I think there's a there's
a clear difference.

Speaker 1 (37:27):
We don't have a whole lot of beef with high Point.
That's Kentucky fans, you know, So I don't think we ever.
I think most fans probably didn't know high Point was
a place until Tubby took the job and brought the
team to RUP.

Speaker 2 (37:39):
So it was good to see him, though. I enjoyed
him being the why there. John Robick was there, I
don't know in an official capacity, but somebody took a
picture of him in the stands. Yeah. Is there anybody
else any other celebrity startings.

Speaker 5 (37:51):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
I think that might be it.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
There may be a few others, but well, I mean
Tyson's Chicken guy was there.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
Oh he was front and center. Man, he had all
his gear on.

Speaker 1 (38:00):
I saw that he took a picture of one of
the fans that had a clown up Perry shirt on.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
Did you see that? Oh? Yeah, that was that was
front and center for the ESPN broadcast. I mean they
showed those guys about ten times. But you know what,
John CALIPERI really didn't get to revel in the in
the in the win in the day after because of
that big NBA trade that happened, that's right, Yeah, yeah,
what do you.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
Think about Anthony Davis being traded and going to uh
let's see, look look at Donic right and Anthony Davis
both swapping.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
Yeah, yeah, there was a little bit more involved in that.
But I mean, you know, we don't talk a lot
about the NBA Shannon, but yeah, you know, people are
saying that was probably the most surprising trade of all time.
And then Fox with the Spurs now right, yep, Fox
going from the Kings to the Spurs, him and Wemby
teaming up for the foreseeable future is really exciting to see.
But you know, the Lakers getting Luca, and i mean

(38:52):
Dallas fans were protesting at their arena the next day.
The trade looks so bad for them, but you know what,
Anthony Davis puts them in a team that was in
the finals into win now mode. But you know, the
guy that carried you to the finals was lucas Wan.
Good luck getting back there, but just a bizarre trade.
You got to think that Dallas must really hate the
guy like he They must have really gotten frustrated with

(39:13):
his antics, him gaining all that weight, and you know,
maybe not being the model athlete, but that's a guy
that's really really good in the playoffs. So you know,
we'll see. But this one, this may go down as
an all time trade when it comes to not just
the NBA but sports.

Speaker 1 (39:27):
Still, though, man, I don't know if I'm going to
be upset about getting Anthony Davis.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
I mean, he traded.

Speaker 1 (39:33):
Let's not act like Anthony Davis has washed up by
any stretch.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
No, No, that's and that's probably the biggest downside of
all this is people are acting like he's just kind
of a scrub player. I mean, but you are trading
a twenty five year old superstar, maybe top three player
in the NBA for a thirty one year old forward.
Now he has been better as of late and has
won a title. But man, this this will be one
that's remembered forever. But Fox go into the Spurs is

(39:59):
something I I really like. Like, you know, I'm excited
to see him and Wenby together. Let's go to Frank. Hey, Frank,
they shine him. What's up?

Speaker 7 (40:10):
I like your attitude today, sann and you got the
right perspective. You may remember me last year I said
who I would rather have than coach Koma Perry, I
said Mickey Mouse February third. Today, we got a lot
better than Mickey Mouse. Yeah, we gotta be honest, Arkansas.

Speaker 1 (40:30):
Go ahead, Chann No, the bigger picture thing is, look,
that was one game. Kentucky is still better off with
Mark Pope as their coach than if John Calipery would
have stayed here. And by the way, you know, if
John Calla Perry would have coached more like you did
on Saturday more often, there's a good chance Cali Perry
is still the coach here, right.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
Maybe, Yeah, I mean, let's be let's just be.

Speaker 7 (40:51):
Let's just be honest. Arkansas played about ten times over
their head. They shot better than they've ever shot. When
they go zero and two this week, their fans will
be back in the Moulley Grubs and we will go
on in March and be successful. So you know what,
I'm not too worried about it. When I'm booing today, Yes,
well I'll booming tomorrow. Yes I will with Shannon go CAATs.

Speaker 1 (41:14):
All right, thanks for the call, Frank. We'll make that
our whiskey Thief call of the day.

Speaker 2 (41:17):
I'm on the show too, Frank. If he just wants
to talk to you. Didn't want to talk to you,
wanted to talk. You had great opinions today, Skyler. Go ahead, Skyler.
I only got a few seconds. Make it quick.

Speaker 8 (41:29):
You guys only give me a few seconds all the time.

Speaker 5 (41:32):
But it's okay.

Speaker 8 (41:32):
Hey, I just want to let you know. I noticed
this John Kelliferry walked onto the court. He was holding
that Scobe Hall newspaper wrap up.

Speaker 5 (41:40):
I thought that was cool, and it was cool. I
think it also.

Speaker 8 (41:45):
Shows that it matters to him what the fan base
thinks of him, and the worst thing for that was
for him to win the game, because now it just
I mean, Anthony Davis trade it. It was medicine for
the fan base to at least distract us for a
little little bit. But now Monday morning, waking up, we're
gonna boom even worse. It just kind of lingers, I think.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
A right man.

Speaker 1 (42:06):
Thanks for the call. We're up against it. We got
out of here. We'll talk to you tomorrow. It is
the ksrpre show.

Speaker 2 (42:11):
See it.
