Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, now I feel stupid. We just had Joe Burrelli
on the air. We just talked to Joe Burrelli for
several minutes, and the entire time I didn't know that
early voting has started in Staten Island to fill his
council seat. So we're really lucky because we got the
reminder from Representative Nicole Mallleyotakis, US representative for New York's eleven,
(00:23):
the congressional district in Staten Island and in southern Brooklyn. Nicole,
thanks for the reminder. This is an important election.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
It is an important election because and by the way,
Joe Borelli and I and the Republican Conservative parties are
supporting Frank Morano to fill the seat vacated by Joe Borelli,
and it is important. And it's a three way race,
by the way, So south Shore Staten Island, you need
to get out and vote, because if we don't all
unite behind Frank Morano, we could actually get a Democrat
(00:54):
in the city Council represent the most Republican district in
the entire city of New York. But I think you
know Frank moranle probably from his time on the radio
and He's somebody who's going to be a fighter, someone's
going to be vocal, and I look forward to working
with him. I think he's going to be a great
partner at the city level.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Yeah, he has a big party down in Atlantic City
every year. I'm there every once in a while. I
know Frank well, and good luck to him. And thanks
for the reminder. I would have forgotten about it completely,
So thanks very good.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Wait, wait, I've to say to go to vote dot
NYC to check the times you can vote early, because
the election is actually April twenty ninth, but you can
vote early now and find your pul site at vote
dot NYC. Thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Sure, No, I'm glad you said that, because I forgot
completely about it. Actually I didn't forget. I didn't even
know until you brought it up. Let's talk about congestion pricing.
I think Governor Hokal's playing a dangerous game right now.
She is being threatened by the Transportation Secretary of pulling
federal funding and that could really really hurt the state
(01:56):
just to keep up these cameras.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
So I think it's clear that the governor and the
MTA need to comply with federal law. They violated federal
law when they went forward with this without going through
a full and thorough environmental impact statement as required by
the NIPA Act. And now with the President rescinding authorization
that was a rubber stamp from Joe Biden, they're further
(02:21):
ignoring federal law. And so it's very frustrating for us
because we see how people are getting slammed thousands of
dollars a year in this toll to drive into another borough,
the city center, in the city in which they live.
It particularly hurts first responders, waiters, people who work odd hours,
nurses and they drive into the city and they're being slammed.
(02:44):
If you're going in for a medical appointment, you're being
slammed with this cash grab. And they did nothing, by
the way, in this plan to actually make traffic proportional
across all the arteries that enter Manhattan. It was simply
a cash grab with no actual planning to reduce congestion.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Right, We're going to see what happens, but I don't
think there's been several threats, and they've pushed back the
deadline a couple of times. I think this time the
Trump administration is serious. You can only poke the bear
so many times before the bear strikes back, and this
could be serious if they cut some of the federal funding.
I do want to talk to you about the Democrats
doubling down on L. Salvadora and their obsession with this
(03:25):
violent illegal alien who has been deported down there. Not
only did Van Holland go down there, which I think
was embarrassing, but now you have four colleagues, four members
of the House going down there. What are they thinking.
This is political suicide. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah, they're tripping over themselves to go to another country
to meet with an illegal immigrant who had been deported
with alleged gang ties, alleged human trafficking. And meanwhile, with
Van Holland, he had a young woman who was killed
in his own state of Maryland, and he refused all
these years to meet with the mother of that young
(04:01):
woman who's killed by an illegal immigrant. So it goes
to show you their priorities, and the Democrats just seem
they just can't. They always have to be on the
side of lawlessness, they always need to be the side
of illegal immigration, and they always seem to be against
the citizens the rule of law, and it's really crazy.
(04:22):
I mean, look what happened here in New York where
we had to go to court three times to stop
non citizens from voting in our elections. Thankfully we won,
but we had to go to court three times because
the Democrats kept wanting to use your taxpayer money to
insist that non citizens should be able to vote in
our municipal elections. That just goes to show you where
their priorities are. And then now you have the City Council,
(04:43):
by the way, suing to prevent ICE from operating out
of Rikers Island. Think about who's going to Rikers Island
these days, because the state passed the law to allow
criminals right back onto the streets. So the people are
going to Rikers and being held there. We're talking about murderers,
violent members, rateist that's who's going to Rikers Island. And
(05:03):
yet the Democrats in the City Council are suing to
prevent ICE from being able to operate there to detain
people upon release.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Yeah, and as Tom Holman has said so many times,
if we don't pick them up at Rikers, we're going
to get them anyway. But then we have to go
into the streets to get them and people could get injured.
Our officers could get injured, people in the community could
get injured. It makes absolutely no sense, no fuss, no
mess that are already in the handcuffs, just hand them over.
I really don't understand this issue at all, and why
(05:36):
this is a hill for them to die on doesn't
make any sense, Nicole. But I do want to get
to the tax package coming up because it's so important.
Talk about the importance of this package, especially for New Yorkers.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Well, first of all, we have to make sure that
we keep the current rates. Everybody across the board received
an income tax cut under the twenty seventeen package. They
also saw the standard deduction double, the child tax credit doubled.
It lifted millions of people out of poverty, provide seven
million jobs, really pro growth tax policy that helped our economy.
(06:13):
So not only do we need to extend that stuff,
but President Trump has made it clear he wants to
reduce taxes for seniors on Social Security, for tipped workers,
for those on overtime, and so we're gonna work on that.
And he also he's agreed because we've spoken with him
about this important issue for New York. The salt deduction,
State and local tax deduction. We get slammed over the
(06:33):
head by our mayor and governor property taxes, income taxes.
They could easily cut income taxes here in state of
New York, just like the President did, but they won't.
So we're trying to provide some relief from the federal level,
and we want to increase the deduction assault deduction and
provide some help for the people. I represented Staten Island
in Brooklyn across New York, and so the President supports that,
(06:55):
and we're working with him to get a number that
is reasonable that we can provide relief for middle class.
And so this is why the package is important. We're
going to go back to Washington, I on the Ways
and Means Committee, and we're working diligently. We have been
for months on this, and I believe we'll get that
one big, beautiful bill that the President has been talking
about that not just provides his tax relief, but also
(07:16):
secures the border further, give them the tools that they
need to do the job. We already see ninety five
percent decrease in border crossings since President Trump was in office.
Remember when Joe Biden said we needed to pass a
law he was blaming Congress. We didn't need to pass
a law. We didn't need a new law. We need
a new president.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Crossings are down.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Yeah. He fixed it like a weekend after they said
they needed a law. Representative Nicole Mallley attack as US
representative for New York's eleventh Congressional district on Staten Island
in southern Brooklyn. Thank you so much, Nicole, As always,
thank you,
