Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back, everybody. We are keeping an eye to this guy,
letting you know if and when the snow is supposed
to fall. Right now, it's supposed to be in the evening,
if at all moves. Just keeping a close eye on
that because you used to always have to do that
because of the race.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Ri Smerspy Way, Jeff Knuckles and I watched it every time.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
So something that I've been watching a lot of thanks
to my good friend Gary BABBITTT. Gary and I used
to work together at Channel four. He was one of
the best videographers I've ever worked with. So dedicated. So
he lives in Chicago right now, and anytime he sees
something that's going on in central Ohio, he sends it
to me and he's like, Mindy, you have to have
this woman on the air. She's known as Gangster Granny,
and the way she watches Ohio State football, especially here
(00:39):
lately because the Buckeyes have looked unstoppable, is so fun.
Her video or she's videoed by her family and then
she has exploded on social media. We're going to talk
to her in just one second, but I want to
give you a listen of Gangster Granny. This is when
she was watching Ohio State. Listen to this.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
She's real calm.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Yeah, she's the real calm one. I'd love to go
to a high school basketball game with Gangster Granny, so
she joins us now live on the air, Hi Granny
or Gangster Granny? How are you today?
Speaker 3 (01:15):
I'm just fine?
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Wow, you know what? I what's that?
Speaker 3 (01:22):
She said? How are you?
Speaker 4 (01:23):
I'm our grandson. I'm mark her hearing aids.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
For the day.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Okay, well, we've seen people go crazy, but I think
you get the biggest award of the loudest, wildest Buckye
fan I've ever seen.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
You know, at ninety eight years old, sometimes you got
to have something to get really excited about. And I
think this seasons for Granny right all big time.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
So that was my next question is I didn't exactly
know how old Gangster Granny is ninety eight. Let me
tell you something, Granny, you do not look ninety eight
or act ninety eight at all. Have you loved Ohio
State sports all your life?
Speaker 5 (02:02):
You love the sports all your life.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
I did, even when I was young and the high school.
I used to go to the football games at night
because I lived in Ymkstown, Ohio and that was my home.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
You used to listen to him on the radio back
in the day.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Oh, yes, nineteen forty one. She was a senior.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Who has been your most favorite Buckeye coach or Buckeye player?
Who have you loved the most through the years.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
Well, she can't hear that well, But we used to
work with Urban Meyer a lot back in the day,
and we actually filmed with the.
Speaker 6 (02:43):
Team, and she she held some training camps with them,
So I probably have to say that that's one of
her favorites. But you like Jim Trussell too, Oh, I
do in a Youngstown in Youngstown now.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
So when we lost to Michigan, how upset was she?
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Oh? She was heartbroken. I couldn't get out of her
room for a week. Margarita mixed and she said, I'm
not coming out of here until we find out.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
So Margarita is her drink, I guess.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Oh yeah, What is her secret for staying so young
at heart and so fun and what a great personality
and attitude?
Speaker 4 (03:21):
That's your secret.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
My sacred is pay and hard work.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
I just love that.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
A lot of High State wins.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
There you go. So she graduated high school approximately nineteen
forty one. Was she working the assembly lines and stuff
during the war because that was prime age for that.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
Woh, you are very smart. She actually made bombs in
World War Two and Ravana Arsenal.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
Wow a lot.
Speaker 5 (03:53):
But hopefully she sees a national championship this year.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
I'll tell you that.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
What do you think, Granny? Are they going to win
the whole thing? Are they going to take down Texas
on Friday?
Speaker 4 (04:01):
Are they gonna win? Oh?
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Yes, I have great confidence and safe and all the good.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
She's just outstanding. You know what, we Granny, where do
you live right now? What part of Ohio are you
living at right now?
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Right now? I live in Columbus, Ohio, but my home
is Yokestown, Ohio.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Okay, we have to get you to an Ohio state
softball game because my daughter is the shortstop there and
she's been starting since her freshman year. This is our
senior year. We have to get you because she thinks
I embarrass her. I want you to come sit next
to me and cheer for her. Will you do that?
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Sometime this season? You might have to play.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
I don't know if you saw earlier this year or
Granny was all over ESPN because she went to the
Browns celebrity softball game and hit a run and then
ran to the base, and then Davin Najoku and one
of the backup run got her out at first base
and it went super viral. But she was three for
three hitting in a softball game, so she might have
(05:07):
to play herself.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Oh my gosh, we're gonna have her throw out the
first pitch. Yes, would she do that?
Speaker 5 (05:13):
She threw out the first pitch for the Guardian, So
I think we might have ourselves at first stuffle.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Oh my gosh, you guys just gave me goosebumps. This
is awesome, Granny. We love you. Why the gangster though?
Why the gangster granny?
Speaker 4 (05:26):
Oh that's their grandson over here. I'm a bad influence
on her.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Are you know.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
How many kids and grandkids?
Speaker 6 (05:34):
Does she have?
Speaker 4 (05:36):
How many grandkids?
Speaker 3 (05:37):
In case you have, I have six grandkids and I
have sammons great grandchildren.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Okay, So I gotta, I gotta, I gotta ask her
a question. Being eighteen and nineteen forty one, what was
her first car? I gotta throw a curveball in. What
was your first car? Granny?
Speaker 5 (05:58):
What was your first car?
Speaker 4 (06:00):
I think.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
A four model T Model T.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
That's like your first cars dad drove.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
I tell you what, you have been so fun to
talk to. What do you want to say to everybody now,
not just the Buckeyes, but about life Because if more
people were like you, I don't care how old, I
don't care if they're eighteen or ninety eight to have
your attitude is outstanding. And I think if there were
more gangster grannies out there, this place we live in
(06:33):
would be much better.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
I would say, go see and God, things in your life.
That's the key to everything break.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Okay, So here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna keep
a hold of you because if Ohio State wins Friday,
which they're already favored by six and a half points,
we're gonna talk to you the following week as they
get ready for the National championships. Good, great gangster granny.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Sounds good to us, right, yeah?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
And then and and Mandy'll work on getting that first pitch.
I think she could pull it off.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Oh yeah, we're gonna get you to throw out the
first pitch a Buckeye field for sure.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Oh yeah, yeah, she's she's pretty good luck charm.
Speaker 5 (07:14):
Every time she goes to a game.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
She's going to more Browns games then, well, you.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Know what, she's only seen the Browns Blues once. She's
probably we work with the Browns. Watch it's probably been
there ten times, and they have upset a lot of
people's good luck. The only one she saw a lost
this year was the Chiefs. But other than that, I mean,
she's almost she's probably ninety nine percent success.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
You know what I love?
Speaker 1 (07:42):
I love that you have such a great relationship with
your grandma. I really do. It reminds me of my
son and my mom. My mom passed away a little
more than a year ago, and they had the best
relationship she had. My mom had all granddaughters and one grandson,
and those two were so close. So I think that's
just remarkable that you're so close with your grandma.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
And the second chance, you know, you know, if she
messed up with my mom, she gets a second chance
of me.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Right, Go all right, we'll talk to you guys soon
for sure, so we'll stay in touch with you. This
