(00:00):
It's time to meet the Kraken withMike Minton. Brought to you by Sea
Town Electric Plumbing, Heating in Air, Washington's preferred choice for electrical h back
and plumbing. The Vin's done backfor season three in a Seattle bracket,
Jersey Vince. Great to have youafter this past summer. Seattle has admired
how much you've grown from this pastyear the magical playoff run. How do
(00:23):
you summarize a few months off youhad in between the end of the playoffs
and now and where did you findthe most benefit in those few months off.
Yeah, I think we've all hada nice little break to reset as
a group here. We're all startingto get familiar with each other again.
A couple of new faces in thelocker room, so that's always exciting to
(00:44):
get to know them and see howthey are not just on the ice but
off the ice. And I thinkwe're all just looking forward to the first
couple of skates tomorrow as a group. So I think we've all known the
capability of the team, not justthe guys in the locker room, but
everyone else who was watching, andfor the prospects and the younger guys that
are coming into camp this year. We're all looking forward to getting together and
getting back to work and putting thatsame goal that we had last year into
(01:10):
effect. Now coming into the campto more and putting things in perspective.
For some guys it takes a while. Others they just want to get it
flushed right out of their system. How long did it take for you to
get the end of last season's playoffsin the rearview mirror and just recalibrate and
hit the reset button? Honestly, pretty quickly. I think the more you
dwell on it, the longer youcan kind of carry into next season.
(01:33):
But at the same time, youremember the areas maybe where you slipped as
a team or as an individual andtry to correct those and bring your best
into this season. And I thinkeveryone puts the work in on the off
season. Everyone's always pretty dialed inthere, so I think now that we're
getting back into the practices, youput all that mental distractions away and just
(01:55):
take it day by day and gameby game. What was the best part
about summer for you? Just spendingtime with my family and friends. It's
pretty tough seeing them when you're allthe way on the West coast here,
So that's always special to be closerto them and spend some time with them.
As far as the contract, wherehave the conversations gone since you signed
for four years on that kind oflongevity and what that can do for you
(02:17):
and now call in this place homefor quite a while. Yeah, I'm
not looking forward to four seasons fromnow. I just take it day by
day. Come in with the samegoals as I did last year, not
worrying about analytics and things like that, just worrying about the team and the
team's performance every single night. WhetherI signed for one year, two years,
three years, eight years, Iwasn't going to come in with a
(02:39):
different attitude. I want to comehere and work and be a leader.
Now that I'm one of the olderguys in the dressing room, I want
to be able to help guys whoare younger than me and kind of pay
it back to where I was,you know, seven eight years ago when
I needed the help to get towhere I am now. So I just
want to be a leader in theroom off the ice. On the ice,
(03:00):
be a good character, be agood teammate, help guys when they're
maybe feeling down some nights, andjust be a positive energy in the room.
Taking this thing off ice here alittle bit. I love the conversation
we had before with your skills inthe kitchen, Vince. What kind of
recent creations have caught you right? When it comes to meal planning these days
pretty similar to last year. Ithink usually just working with the basics.
(03:24):
I finally bought some stuff from PikePlace the other week, which was pretty
cool. Got like massive crab legsand lobster tails. Hadn't really cooked those
before, and I did a prettygood job. So maybe experimenting with those
types of things and all the seafoodavailability that we have here on the West
Coast, it's pretty special. Pretendcalories don't count for one day. One
(03:46):
day, what are you having?Probably a whole whack of pasta, seafood
and a ton of ice cream? How all about does that compare with Adam
Lars and his admiration for your cookingskills and what you can maybe make for
him down the road as a guyyou sit by his stall kind of like
a lot of candy. I probablywouldn't think of it. I'm looking at
him because he's kind of a codso I don't know it's pretty easy,
(04:06):
just open up a couple of chocolatebars and feed it to him. But
he likes soy sauce sushi, alwayscomplains about his feet swelling from all the
sushi heets, so I don't know. I gotta be careful with him.
He's a sensitive subject. As faras him and having fun, there's plenty
of guys who have fun. SoI pose this question to a few,
which Cracken teammate would throw the bestbirthday party out of the whole group here,
(04:29):
I think probably Barakowski. It wouldprobably be like just so unorganized,
out of control, and just likea whole lot of everything. Never know
what's gonna happen. We don't reallyknow what you're walking into, so that
one might be surprising. Everyone elsemight have it a little bit more dialed
in, but that one could getcreative. Hey. Finally, as this
gets closer, what does playing outsideon New Year's Day in the winter classic
(04:50):
at the home of the Mariners meanto you? Yeah, I think we've
all been looking forward to it eversince they announced it. I've never been
a part of that, and growingup in Canada, that's all you do
is play outdoor ranks and I thinkthat'll kind of bring back some memories out
there, So I think it's reallyspecial that it's two American teams doing it
brings a lot of publicity to theside of the city and a lot of
(05:11):
attention to the NHL, So Ithink it's not just good for the team,
but it's good for the organization inthe league. We're all looking forward
to it, and I think it'sjust a different dynamic for people to maybe
get into the sport where maybe theyhaven't been to climate pledge is more availability.
I'm sure there's going to be alot more seats sold, so it
gives a lot more opportunity for otherpeople to come see us, and I
(05:31):
think we're just all looking forward tothe atmosphere and the different environment and playing
outside the build up will be thrilling. Vince, we can't wait. Thank
you very much, man. Iappreciate you that you're home for the correct
