Postgame coverage with Everett Fitzhugh, Al Kinisky, and Mike Benton after the Seattle Kraken were defeated by the Los Angeles Kings, 6-5 on Apr. 15 at Climate Pledge Arena. I think the way we competed after the deadline.

I like the way that our game was even tonight,
the battleback that we had. You know, I thought we
controlled most of the play, but a couple of details
you find a fucking the back here net. So you know, obviously,
take a couple of days here to work on figuring
out how to be better next.

But coming into training camp next season, what do you
look for this team to come back into camp with

The way that we competed the last you know, month

You know, we have a lot of good pieces here.

You love the decoor that we have, the way that
they escape, they move the puck offensively. Obviously we have
some pieces. Joey's been great in the pipes. I mean,
there's there's a lot of good here that can be
turned into the playoff hockey.

I think it's just having that mindset and I believe.

fan appreciation things that we're gonna take care of here

cannon here boily once the players come back onto the ice.
But al for the Cracket here tonight, I mean, they're
down six to two, they battle back, They give the
fans at least, you know, something to be excited about.

But this game was so much more than just about
the result here tonight. The Cracket will finish eleven eleven
and one in their final twenty three games since the
Four Nations break. But if you're Seattle, the future is bright.
You have to like the direction this team's heading into.

Yeah, you absolutely do.

And yeah, you didn't come up with a win here tonight,
but you know, to quote Brandon on tour, we're not
gonna stop fighting. Yeah, they absolutely did not stop fighting
and try and get this game tied up right until
the very end. So you've got to be appreciative of that.

week from now, a month from now, and the sting
of this one kind of wears away, what's gonna stand
out to you about the fourth year of Cracking Hockey?

Yeah, I think that, you know, there are a few
things I wrote down, obviously, the impact that Chandler Stevenson
and Brandon Montour had come in thentanization, Matty Benier's growth
as a player, you know, the impact that Coppocaco had
on his game and in the game that Cocko brought himself.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
Shane Wright's first full season with.

Speaker 8 (03:36):
The team, and how how he evolved Joey to Cord,
slidifying himself in that one eight spot, you know, throughout
the season.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
So those are coming a few of the big ones,
and that's what Dan Biosma felt as well, that this
the Shane Rights is of the world. But Maddy eveneers, Uh,
you know, Yannie Newman coming up and he was supposed
to get a three game homestand and he ended up
being here for ten games and and getting a handful
of goal in the process as well. So there was
a lot to look forward to, a lot have to
be positive and happy about. But with the good, unfortunately

comes the bad. And I think for Seattle last season,
this is the Kraken team, the only non playoff.

Team last year in the.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Top ten in goals against two eight three goals against.
Last season, your power play was seventeen. Your penalty killed
was twentieth enter this year, your goals against now down
the twenty first in the NHL, so you dropped twenty
two full points. Your goals for improved a little bit,
but you know, not enough, and everyone will tell you.

In that locker room we improved, but not enough.

That Most Valuable Player is awarded annually to the player
voted to be the most valuable to the on ice
success of the Seattle Kracken, as chosen by the Seattle
Aria Media.

This year's winner is Joey Duck coord.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Not enough good thing to say about Joey t his
first full year as a starter of the NHL.

Speaker 8 (05:50):
Yeah, absolutely, and if you look at his stats are
actually down from last year, but I think he played
better this year. Last year obviously a very defensive minding
system with the Cracken. This year a little bit more
open where he had to come up with a lot
more big saves this year, and he absolutely did in
some of those key situations.

Speaker 4 (06:05):
Career high twenty seven wins this season. Fifty six.

Speaker 10 (06:09):
The Game Stars of the Year Award is awarded to
the player that accumulates the most points on three Star
of the Game votes. Five points for every first Star,
three for every second Star, and one point for every
third Star honor.

him their appreciation.

Yeah, very approachable player out there. Guy that will say
hei to you, It doesn't matter where you see him

I think folks do listen, Yeah, he leads up by
his play on the ice for sure. Yeah, that's that's
the indicative of.

A lot of captains in this league.

So al as we wrap up here from Climate Pledge

Again, you and I were.

Just talking about all of the positives to build forward to,
but also where the team needs to improve, and I
think we were right in the middle of talking about
how the stats have taken a bit of a downturn
and that's one area that's Hee Master improved next season.

Speaker 8 (08:47):
Yeah, I think you know, we we talked a lot
about defensive zone this year and how that's gotten a
little bit worse. This season, but goals for it have
gone up a little bit. I think you both you
want to improve on both of those. Do you want
to want more scoring winning in the next season and
you want a little tighter defensive zone structure?

Speaker 1 (09:05):
And I think too.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
You know, with the condensed schedule next season, remember we
have the return of the Olympics for the NHL players
next season. It sounds like we're gonna have an eighteen
twenty twenty one day break next year, but they're still trying.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
They still are going.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
To condense all eighty two games from the October seventh
ish through tax Day.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
And you know what that means for back to backs
this year? The Seattle cracket oh to twelve in game
two's up.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
Back to backs outscored forty nine to seventeen in those games.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
That cannot happen next season.

Speaker 8 (09:43):
No, And in fact, if you go through next season
with a similar outcome from this season, it's gonna impact
where you are at the end of the season so
much more because to your point, there're gonna be a
lot more of them. Yeah, so you cannot afford to
go oh in whatever it ends up being seven whatever,
the back to back to our next season.

Before we send it out of here over to you, Ali,
I got a couple of more thank yous that I
want to send across. First on the Seattle Crack inside,
Bill chafin his entire ticketing department helping get this building
filled every single night. This town has quickly turned into
a hockey town.

I say all the time.

Me being from Detroit, I remember the passion of Red
Wings hockey when they were winning those back to back
Cups and how the fans gravitated toward the team. And
I've seen that passion here in Seattle as well. And
a lot of that has to do with the hard
work of Bill as entire team, getting those tickets sold,
getting folks in the building, our partnerships group as well,

led by Jeff Webster, Sam Morgan, Ally Bickford, everyone over
there for making sure the sponsors are well taken care
of them.

We've met some great.

Partners here that have given their time and their support
and their money and their effort to helping this venture
get off the ground. On the arena side, everyone here
in the building from the top down, the turnover crew,
the changeover crews, everybody in the marketing departments who have

We would not be half the people that we are
with on them.

Yeah, it was a very special time for us today
to have an hour out of the with Fan Appreciation Day,

My assumption is it's just well, it's driving home from

Final thoughts for me is as I love the team
ending the season on trying to battle back from a
multi goal definit they didn't quite get there. It feels fitting,
It was very fitting and they had they pulled it off.
I was certain they were gonna win in overtime. But
fitting to see that attempt anyway, Mama kay, here are
your last three stars of the twenty twenty four to
twenty five season.

He had an assist and then what was shot on
goal tonight, so big game for him his first game
in the NHL for the Kraken. The second star goes
to Adam Camp he had a goal and assists for
