Los Angeles, Orange County, IE in the Valley. This is to
Wallace Sharp and you're listening to kfI AM six forty Soul Cal Saturday on
demand on the iHeartRadio app. SaturdaySaturday is the Saturday. It's the Saturday.
Is the Saturday. Saturday is theSaturday. Saturday's the Saturday. One

(00:23):
Holidayday Saturday. K f I AMsix forty Live everywhere on the iHeart Radio

(00:50):
app. In Tohongo Canyons, Northridge, Lagoon of Hills, and your Kaipa.
This is Soul Cal Saturday. I'myour host, T. Wallace Sharp,
giving you a look at the week'srun down here in southern California.
Things that have stood out to meand should stand out to you. The
Los Angeles City Council Committee is takingsteps on ethics reform at city Hall.

(01:14):
That's almost laughable, but okay. The Los ANGELESUI of the Los Angeles City
Council met this past week and movedforward a series of proposed changes to the
city Charter intended to bolster the independenceof the Ethics Commission and enhance its enforcement
powers. I wonder if that meansthey're going to come down harder on any

(01:36):
council members who are misusing, theyare abusing their power in the office.
I don't know. I don't know. It seems like most of the ethical
concerns that we have had with LACity Council and or need or reform has
to do with LA City Council. So maybe this is you telling on yourselves

(01:57):
and why you're moving forward. Buthey, hooray, let's make sure that
you clean that up. Also dealingwith LA and this is actually a good
thing that the city council did do, is that they approved pay raises for
thousands of LA City employees. Onthis past Wednesday, the city Council gave

(02:20):
final approval on raises totaling twenty twopercent over five years. Contracts have already
been ratified by unions representing the workers, and minimum wage for a city worker
will go from twenty dollars per hourstarting this year, with the goal of
twenty five dollars an hour by twentytwenty six. Way to get ahead of
fast food wage increases all right,in California, you're gonna need that pay

(02:46):
raises, especially in the city ofLos Angeles when you look at how high
the cost of fast food has gotten. I'm telling you this is so bizarre
to me. This past week,I think it was what third and maybe
Thursday, stopped and got a burgercombo at Jack in the box, the

(03:07):
buttery bacon Swiss combo. Don't turnyour nose, o Kayla. This burger's
delicious. Just the combo burger friessoda. Dude said that'll be eighteen something
and I'm like, it's I thinkyou've got it wrong, sir. I
just ordered one combo one burger frydrink. Eighteen dollars is what it was.

(03:30):
That's insanity. But this is whatis going to be all across southern
California with the minimum wage increase goingup. So cow fast food chains have
already hit us with about an eightpercent increase overall on prices. So if
you're going to I don't care ifit's Burger King, Taco Bell, Chipotle,

(03:52):
doesn't matter where you're going, you'regoing to be hit with a serious
increase. So when you see theseprices going up, when you as for
you know, combo mill for youmaybe got your kids in the backseat,
there's three of you, tell youyou be looking at close Maybe I kid
you not close to forty five dollarsand that's the last time me and my

(04:13):
kids went through a drive through. So yeah, I hope uh these raises
and with LA City Council they spreadto other cities because yeah, everyone's gonna
need to be making more money, especially in Orange County because Orange County families
are running out of options as theirdiaper bank has run out of money.
Okay, now, what is adiaper bank? The Orange County Diaper Bank,

(04:38):
which started in twenty twenty, providesfree diapers to thousands of families,
but it may be losing its fundingthis coming June. Right now, the
group distributes diapers to eighty nonprofits throughoutthe county and the resources provide free diapers
to about some ten thousand children amonth. If this this goes away,

(05:00):
think about that ten thousand children whohave families that are going to be struggling
to provide diapers. Something has gotto be done. This is something where
I'm hoping the City of Orange Countyand all the counties in Orange County are
looking at finding a way to enhancethese funds. So I don't know if

(05:24):
you've ever had to change those clothreusable diapers, but it's a problem.
Oh, it's a problem. Sothe diaper Bank, they absolutely need more
funding. And this is why,if you've ever listened to and I know
you have listened to later with moKelly, why we've been so on this
Disneyland Forward approval by the City ofAnaheim and why we felt it means so

(05:49):
much, not just for Anaheim beforethe state of California period. Because this,
as you know, was just passedthis past week and Disneyland is going
to be invested some one point ninebillion dollars into expanding their theme park footprint.
That one point nine billion dollars alsoincludes moneies going to the city of

(06:13):
Anaheim and the surrounding areas to buildparks, enhance infrastructure, streets and all
that. Most importantly, it's goingto create jobs. This is going to
create jobs, not just for theDisneyland Forward project, but for everything surrounding
the area in Anaheim and Orange County. It's going to increase tourism for the

(06:33):
state of California, state of County. I mean, we may have our
tourism numbers double I'd say, maybeeven triple by the time this plan really
comes to fruition. I know,Disneyland for by the time it's finally done.
I may be too old to begoing to Disneyland, but my kids,
kids, my kids maybe when they'reolder, they will be going.

(06:54):
Good. I mean, look, nah nah, I'd still be going because
Disneyland's forever and this is this isan investment that really within the first ten
years or so will start to seesome impact. So hurrah, hooray,
very happy for that. Coming upon the other side, we are going
to be taking a look at someother things happening in southern California, the

(07:16):
safest cities in the state, aswell as what I believe is a prime
opportunity for us to secure the SundanceFilm Festival. You're listening to Soul cal
Saturday with Tawala Sharp on demand fromKFI AM six forty, KFI AM six

(07:49):
forty live everywhere on the iHeartRadio appin sun Village, Mount Washington, Hemmett,
and Aloma, Linda. This isSoul Saturday. I'm your host,
Twyla Sharp, taking a look atsome of the safest cities in all of
California, with seven of them beingin Orange County. According to a new

(08:13):
report, the top six safest citiesin all of California are located in Orange
County. According to a newly releasedranking by the home security company Safewise,
none of the Los Angeles County citiesrank in the top ten of the twenty
twenty four report. Yeah yeah, yeah, I know. The ten safest

(08:35):
cities in the state, according toSafewise are Rancho, Santa Margarita, Aliso
Viejo, Your Belinda, Laguna,Neguel, Mission Viejo, Lake Forest,
Lincoln, California, Howway, Rockland, and Irvine. Other southern California cities

(08:56):
that rank in the top twenty includeSay Clemente and the Inland Empires, Marietta,
Fontana, and Menafee. Safe Wisesays that it has compiled this ranking
by using the most up to dateFBI data, including statistics on violent crimes
and property crimes and crime crime crimecrime crime. I'm discouraged that nowhere in

(09:22):
the Los Angeles County area rank inthis safe city area. But more importantly,
I'm surprised that no mention of Pasadenaor Altadena is included in this report,
because Hello, Alta, Dina say, this can be safest? Could
be? You can almost leave yourdoors unlocked to night. I wouldn't I

(09:46):
wouldn't Okay, I wouldn't do thatbecause you can't. Just I'm saying don't
do that. I'm saying, don'tdo that, but you almost could.
Many of our neighborhoods, you feelthat way. You feel like, you
know, the worst that may comein your house and I maybe a wild
animal, you know, some mischievousraccoon that wants to get into your house,
is trying to get in through thepet door. You know, we

(10:07):
don't even really have bears like thatin Altadena. The bears are really attacking
Monrovia, which is weird because they'recoming down to Morovia, the hillsides of
Morovia, even the hillsides in Burbank. But they're not coming down the hillsides
in Altadena. You know why,you know why because Alta Dina is respected
by bears. Is this is thisa facts or is this bias? Just

(10:30):
what we've seen bias. We've seenbears in Burbank. I've seen a bear
in Altadena. You have not seena bearon I did stop it, stop
it. That is a bear.Lie, okay, that is a bear
faced lie? No bears and ohno, not say that. There was
a couple of bear sightings. Butthey were on their way to somewhere else.
Okay, they're on their way outof the city. So I'm going

(10:54):
to send that study an email andlet them know about al Yeah, because
they need to fix that list.Let them know that Dina needs to be
on this list. But I'd say, or I'm actually taking a look at
this. And this was why Ithought this was important because a little while
ago, maybe it was like lastweek or so, I saw that the
Sundance Film Festival is looking to leavethe confines of Utah and find a new

(11:22):
home, a new home for theSundance Film Festival. And of course I
thought to myself, you have tobring the Sundance Film Festival to California.
Now. Unfortunately, our downtown isnot really built for the Sundance Film Festival.
It's we're not there yet for downtownLA for something like a Sundance Film

(11:43):
Festival. But I definitely think thatOrange County could be the home for the
Sundance Film Festival if they were topick any of the coastal areas in Orange
County, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Salbach, just pick a beach area
in in Orange County. And thatis where you should have the Sundance Film

(12:05):
Festival. I know, in Utahyou got the snow and all that,
but in southern California, you gotthe snow already. In Orange County,
you've got big events like the Dtwo three Convention, which is an amazing
invention. Disney does it every yearand it's larger than life. Then you've
got things like the wonder Con.Wonder Con it takes place every year in

(12:30):
Orange County the convention Center area, and this is a magnificent event. And
I know Wonder Con isn't Sundance FilmFestival, but just when you look at
their ability Orange County, that istheir ability to host major events something like
the Sundance Film Festival, I wouldthink that it would be a home especially
because in California, look at allthe celebrities that we have, Look at

(12:52):
all the star power that you alreadyhave. They're not gonna have to get
on a plane and go anywhere. They can just drive down, do business
with some of the hotels, havesome host hotels, do some events on
the beach front, stuff like that. Come on, Sundance, bring your
festival here. And look, I'vealways wanted to go to the Sundance Film
Festival, because where you really reallywhere. From my understanding from people who

(13:16):
do go to the Sundance Film Festival, a lot of the celebrities are really
regular because everyone there is a quoteunquote star. Everyone there is on equal
footing. If you're there, you'repart of the industry. Even if you're
there working, you are treated withthat much more respect because you have a

(13:37):
lot It's not just actors and actressesthere. You have a lot of producers,
a lot of executives, behind thescenes, powerful people, so everyone
is really regular. I have afew friends who've gone there who've just been
assistance for various film premieres and thingslike that. So I would think something
like Sundance Film Festival being in southernCalifornia, why not I mean already already

(14:00):
again Orange County. Some of thesafest cities in all of California reside in
Orange County, and I would sayalmost the state, damn it. Okay,
just imagine you have the Sundance FilmFestival in Laguna Noguel or the Some
Dance or the Sundance Film Festival inAliso Ville Hill, well maybe not Alisa

(14:24):
Villa Hill. I haven't been therejust to know the sites, but definitely
Theguna Nogel definitely. So I don'tknow. I think that this is something
that we should actually get going.Maybe there needs to be a petition sent
to the head of the Sundance FilmFestival and really and truly Sundance Sundance Committee.
If you really really want a perfecthost city, Pasadena. Pasadena could

(14:50):
be the host city for you.You could do events at the Rose Bowl.
There's the Pasadena Convention Center. OldTown Pasadena is beautiful, beautiful,
all the amenities. There are newhotels popping up all the time in Pasadena.
Sundance. Dena's looking at you,Okay, denis calling City of Roses.

(15:11):

(15:35):
to look at some places that youcan do so, really and truly what
all the hype about for twenty isYou're listening to Soul col Saturday with Tawala
Sharp on demand from KFI AM sixforty, KFI AM six forty live everywhere

(15:58):
on the iHeartRadio app in Sierra Madre, Mint Canyon, Apple Valley and Grand
Terrace. This is Soul cal Saturday. I'm your host, T Wallace Sharp
and happy for twenty day for allof you. Marrijajuana lovers. Me person.
I have never partaken other stuff, believe it or not, in my

(16:19):
now just over fifty years. Ihave never smoked the marriage juana. I've
never taken the edibles, not evena brownie, not even a bite I
did. And I have been hitwith some major major contact high in my

(16:41):
days working in music radio. Onetime, producing a concert up at Bear
Mountain, Bear Mountain or Big oneof the Mountains, we did a snow
event hip hop on the mountain top. We had Redman and Method Man performing,
two rappers that are known for theirpervaiicive use of marijuana. And I

(17:03):
had to go into their tour busto inform them that this is a radio
show. We were trying to broadcastit live, so we're gonna need a
clean show. And I went intotheir tour bus to explain this to them
and walking into their bus. Justas soon as I stepped in that door
closed, I felt like I hadbeen rolled in like marijuana papers. I

(17:26):
felt like I was just I hadbecome marijuana. It was. It was
so so wild and they were justsmoking. It was just blowing into my
face and like, hey, what'sup. And I'm like, yeah,
so you know I need I needyou guys to keep the show clean.
It's radio show. Families out there'ship hop on the mountain top of you
know, we're gonna truck to keepit clean radio show. And Red Man

(17:48):
looked at me said clean clean clean. I got you, I got you.
It's the radio show. You gotthat, you got that mess message?
Yeah yeah, And I was likeall right. Cool walked out and
I almost passed out because of thehigh. How high? Wasn't just the
movie high who super producer Kayla? It was high. And they proceeded to

(18:10):
step on stage and met the mansaid, I just talked to the music
director of the radio station. Hejust told me that they need us to
keep this show clean. And Isaid, oh my god, it was
about to have right there, andhe said, so on the counter three,
I want y'all to say blank ufMan and they went into a whole

(18:37):
thing and they I think they madeup curse words for their show just to
just to mess with me. Iwas like, Okay, that was my
first really really get high experience.I think the other time was when I
went to hang out at a studiosession for Snoop. I was just there
just while they were producing some music, and I don't think Snoop was coming

(18:59):
at the time, but they justwanted me to come through and hear some
of the production. Here what theywere coming with with one of his new
albums, and everyone in there washigh and it's it's it almost smelled as
if they were producing marijuana in theair, just just through the music.
It was so weird. So thatis my experience with marijuana, and just

(19:21):
more experiences like that throughout the time. I've never understood the connection between the
date for twenty or four twenty periodand more and marijuana, But it seems
that the origins of the date andthe term for twenty generally were are or

(19:41):
long and murky period. Some claimthat it's police code for marijuana possession.
Some say that it comes from aBob Dylan song. Everyone has a different
kind of reason or origin four fortwenty, but for twenty for the most
part, today at four twenty wasthe time when lovers of marijuana took out

(20:07):
their marijuana and just marijuana. Imean, I'm gonna make that a verb.
They just marijuana. They got ashigh as they possibly could. And
I don't know if individuals that spotmarijuana actually need a day and a time,
but I know that this is significant. This is like a national holiday

(20:27):
for lovers of marijuana here in southernCalifornia. There are so many different events
and things that happened. There wasthe kill Bud event Volume four twenty at
Mecca mid City. Mecca mid Cityis more than your typical dispensary. They've
been serving the community for decades, curating a selection of affordable, high quality

(20:51):
products sure whatever. They had anevent today and actually is going on all
day till ten pm if you're intoit. Seven thirty eight Washington Boulevard in
LA. There's the Underground for twentyFest, the fourth annual Underground for twenty
Fest downtown LA, happening from oneto nine pm today. Find out more

(21:15):
about that at Underground four Twentyfest dotcom. I believe has a cost to
get in. But what's cost whenyou're going to smoke weed? I guess
there is a full day of creativityin cannabis at the Art Artist Trees Consumption
Lounge the Artist Tree Studio Cannabis Loungein Santa Monica eighty six twenty five Santa

(21:40):
Monica Boulevard. I'm sorry, eightysix twenty five Santa Monica Boulevard in West
Hollywood, and this is going tobe all about four twenty and consumption in
their lounge. Great. Great ifyou're into that. Oh, and there's
comedy shows that have to do withmarijuana at the Common Store in Hollywood.

(22:02):
There's uh several headliners that will bedoing a stoned show. I guess this
is what this is brand improv RandyFeldtface his Banana Tore and Brian Kellen.
I guess. I don't know whatthey have to do with weed, but
sure laugh Factory more weed comedy.Look, there's a lot of comedy going

(22:22):
on today that has to do withBerijuana. And I guess if you go
to a comedy show and you're high, you will probably laugh your butt off.
I don't know, I don't partakesuper producer Kayla, do you partake.
No, yes, no, maybeso maybe so maybe sometimes are are
any of these events like the fourto twenty plant Potting Workshop or the Cushtock

(22:48):
any of these events appealed to anyonethat you may know that's into the Marriagjejuana.
You know, most people that Iknow who smoke, they're like four
twenties, just another day if Ismoke every day. But it's nice to
have events and everything where you're aroundlike minded people. So I'm sure,
I'm sure the pie heads will turnup. I'll turn out well, you
know, hey, be safe ifanything, be safe. Don't smoke and

(23:11):
drive. I don't know if that'sthe thing. I know it's don't drink
and drive, but don't smoke anddrive if you can, if you can
get an uber from wherever you're going, because you may take it to the
next level. So just don't don'tdrive. Yeah, it's illegal. I
think your reaction area skills aren't onwhat they should be. So yeah,
it's legal to smoke and drive. You can get ticket it and do you
why charge? Do you got allthat? Yes, don't don't do it.

(23:33):
Make sure that you are safe whilewherever you are getting your marijuana on
Yeah, keep it away from me, keep it away from my kids,
keep it in your on the household. Look, I'm not down with it,
Okay. I want to make surethat we're clear. I don't care
about four twenty. I don't careabout marijuana. But I know in southern

(23:53):
California there's one of those green plussign stores on damn near every corner.
So it is a big thing. From you know, Orange County to the
Valley La to the beaches. Itis huge when it comes to marijuana.
So yeah, happy four twenty day. Sure you're listening to Soul cal Saturday
